Abstract Bi2WO6 flower-like materials (FMs) were prepared by a hydrothermal method, followed by an in-situ reduction method to prepare Au@Bi2WO6 FMs. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were employed to characterize the samples. It was discovered that the calculated OV content of Au@Bi2WO6 FMs is 25.16% whereas that of Bi2WO6 FMs is 20.81%, offering appropriate active sites for the absorption of gases and thus enhancing outstanding sensing property. Moreover, the detection of volatile and hazardous substances such as formaldehyde, methanol, acetone, benzene, toluene, and xylene was carried out to assess the efficacy of the Au@Bi2WO6 FMs sensors. The optimal operating temperatures for the Bi2WO6 FMs and Au@Bi2WO6 FMs sensors were 290 and 260 °C, respectively. Compared with Au@Bi2WO6 FMs sensor and Bi2WO6 FMs one, the best response of the front was 250 (900)–100 (800) ppm formaldehyde whereas that of the latter was 90 (230). Therefore, Au@ Bi2WO6 FMs have good response and selectivity, which are promising candidates for formaldehyde detection.

Abstract Both all‐inorganic lead‐free perovskite and CdS nanobelts possess outstanding photo‐detective properties. Herein, a hybrid photodetector based on four CdS nanobelts (NBs)/Cs3Sb2Br9 nanoflake (NF) heterojunction fabricated by a dry‐transfer tactic is designed. In this structure, four parallel CdS nanobelts almost fully cover the Cs3Sb2Br9 NF so that their photoelectronic advantage is demonstrated. The Cs3Sb2Br9 is exploited as an efficient light absorber and component for the construction of type‐II energy band with CdS. Compared with a single CdS NB/Cs3Sb2Br9 NF device, the hybrid four CdS NBs/Cs3Sb2Br9 NF device increases the hybrid area ratio of the channel from 36% to 86%, and demonstrates an appealing performance on an ultrahigh ON/OFF current ratio of 1.54 × 105, remarkable responsivity of 4.13 × 103 A W−1, large detectivity of 1.47 × 1015 Jones, and tremendous external quantum efficiency of 1.14 × 106 %, which are 9.5, 3.8, 7.2, and 3.8 times greater than the single CdS NB/Cs3Sb2Br9 NF device, respectively. Moreover, the photoresponse wavelength of the hybrid four CdS NBs/Cs3Sb2Br9 NF device is broadened to 400–520 nm. This work offers a strategy to enhance the photoelectric performance of hybrid devices, along with the illustration of vital insight into advanced device designs for violet‐green photodetectors.

Monolayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has weak light absorption due to its atomically-thin thickness, thus hindering the development of MoS2-based optoelectronic devices. CdSxSe[Formula: see text] has excellent photoelectric performance in the visible light range, and its nanostructure shows great potential in new nanoscale electronic and optoelectronic devices. In this work, a composite photodetector device with the combination of monolayer MoS2 nanosheets and CdS[Formula: see text]Se[Formula: see text] nanobelts has been successfully prepared, which can not only maintain the inherent excellent properties of the two blocks, but also play a synergistic role between them, thus improving the photoelectric performance of the device. The monolayer MoS2 nanosheet /CdS[Formula: see text]Se[Formula: see text] nanobelt photodetector has a wide spectral response range (400–800[Formula: see text]nm), high responsivity (527.22[Formula: see text]A/W) and large external quantum efficiency (EQE) ([Formula: see text]%). Compared with the isolated monolayer MoS2 nanosheet, both the responsivity and EQE of the hybrid photodetector are increased by 117.4 times under 620[Formula: see text]nm illumination. This study provides a way to prepare hybrid photodetectors with wide spectral response and high responsivity.

Abstract For real-application gas sensors, high performances (response, selectivity, response/recovery time and stability) are demanded. An effective strategy is applying nanomaterials in gas sensors. In this study, the anatase TiO2 flower-like nanomaterials (FLNMs) are prepared through a one-step hydrothermal method which exhibit high-performance toward acetone vapor. TiO2 FLNMs sensors property are characterized at optimal working temperature of 330 °C with selectivity (acetone), response (S = 33.72 toward 250 ppm acetone), linear dependence (R 2 = 0.9913), response/recovery time (46/24 s toward 250 ppm acetone) and long-term stability (30 days). These demonstrate that TiO2 FLNMs get a high performance for acetone sensor. Moreover, the limit of detection of acetone is 0.65 ppm which is lower than that of exhaled air for diabetes (0.8 ppm), indicating that TiO2 FLNMs gas sensor gets potential application in medical diagnosis.

The application of the cast WC, the Co powder coated cast WC and the Ni powder coated cast WC particles in diamond saw blades were studied, and their effects on the mechanical properties, the micro morphologies and the cutting properties of the diamond saw blade matrix were explored. The results show that when the mass ratio of the three kinds of WC material to the metal powder is 3∶1, the hardness of the three kinds of matrix is equivalent. The bending strength of the matrix containing Co powder coated cast WC is the highest, the interface between the WC particles and the matrix is the closest, and the microstructure of the matrix is the densest. The bending strength of the matrix containing Ni powder coated cast WC is the second. The matrix with only cast WC has the worst bending strength. Compared with the saw blade with only cast WC added, the cutting life of the saw blade with Co powder coated cast WC is the longest and increases by 40%.

Abstract Hybrid CdS/MoS2 with branch and leaf shaped structures are successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method. It is applied to detect volatile organic compounds, a basic source of indoor air pollution with deleterious effects on the human health. The sensor based on CdS/MoS2 displays an outstanding response to alcohols among numerous gases. Their response to 100 ppm ethanol and isopropanol reaches 56 and 94, respectively. Benefiting from the dendrite-like biomimetic structure and synergy effect of CdS and MoS2, the sensor exhibits higher response than traditional gas sensor. For multiple alcohols, the limit of detection reached ppb level. In addition, by comparing the response of ethanol, isopropanol, isoamyl alcohol and their mixtures with acetone and methanal, a strong resistance interference is observed. This work proved that the modified detector holds broad promise in the detection of alcohols.

During acute wound (AW) healing, a series of proper communications will occur between different epidermal cells at precise temporal stages to restore the integrity of the skin. However, it is still unclear what variation happened in epidermal cell interaction in the chronic wound environment. To provide new insights into chronic wound healing, we reconstructed the variations in the epidermal cell-cell communication network that occur in chronic wound healing via single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) data analysis. We found that the intricate cellular and molecular interactions increased in pressure ulcer (PU) compared to AW, especially the PARs signaling pathways were significantly upregulated. It shows that the PARs signaling pathways’ main source was melanocytes and the CTSG-F2RL1 ligand-receptor pairs were its main contributor. Cathepsin G (CatG or CTSG) is a serine protease mainly with trypsin- and chymotrypsin-like specificity. It is synthesized and secreted by some immune or non-immune cells. Whereas, it has not been reported that melanocytes can synthesize and secrete the CTSG. F2R Like Trypsin Receptor 1 (F2RL1) is a member of proteinase-activated receptors (PARs) that are irreversibly activated by proteolytic cleavage and its stimulation can promote inflammation and inflammatory cell infiltration. In this study, we found that melanocytes increased in pressure ulcers, melanocytes can synthesize and secrete the CTSG and may promote inflammation in chronic wounds through CTSG-F2RL1 pairs, which may be a novel potential target and a therapeutic strategy in the treatment of chronic wounds.

Abstract Ag2W2O7 nanoribbons were synthesized by hydrothermal method and then Ag/Ag2W2O7 NRs were developed by in situ chemical‐reduction with NaBH4. The samples were characterized by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy, and UV–vis spectroscopy, high‐resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), and Raman spectrum. In addition, methylene blue and Rhodamine B were selected as probe molecules to explore surface‐enhanced Raman scattering effect of Ag/Ag2W2O7 NRs. It was found that the detection of limit and enhancement factor for methylene blue is 8.91 × 10−13 m and 2.78 × 107, whereas the counterpart for Rhodamine B is 8.71 × 10−12 m and 4.34 × 106 on the Ag/Ag2W2O7 NRs substrate. Relative standard deviation was not exceed 19% when methylene blue concentration reached 1.0 × 10−6 m, it can be seen that the substrate has good uniformity, strength stability and high repeatability, which can be applied to the detection of organic dyes and additives.

In the present study, an integrated framework for automatic detection, segmentation, and measurement of road surface cracks is proposed. First, road images are captured, and crack regions are detected based on the fifth version of the You Only Look Once (YOLOv5) algorithm; then, a modified Residual Unity Networking (Res-UNet) algorithm is proposed for accurate segmentation at the pixel level within the crack regions; finally, a novel crack surface feature quantification algorithm is developed to determine the pixels of crack in width and length, respectively. In addition, a road crack dataset containing complex environmental noise is produced. Different shooting distances, angles, and lighting conditions are considered. Validated through the same dataset and compared with You Only Look at CoefficienTs ++ (YOLACT++) and DeepLabv3+, the proposed method shows higher accuracy for crack segmentation under complex backgrounds. Specifically, the crack damage detection based on the YOLOv5 method achieves a mean average precision of 91%; the modified Res-UNet achieves 87% intersection over union (IoU) when segmenting crack pixels, 6.7% higher than the original Res-UNet; and the developed crack surface feature algorithm has an accuracy of 95% in identifying the crack length and a root mean square error of 2.1 pixels in identifying the crack width, with the accuracy being 3% higher in length measurement than that of the traditional method.

Nephrocutaneous fistula (NCF) is a rare and severe complication of renal disease and surgical procedures. Treatments for NCF are based on the renal function, and can include nephrectomy, heminephrectomy, nephroureterectomy, endourological maneuvers or antibiotic therapy alone. Here we report a case of a chronic NCF which occurred 5 years after partial nephrectomy. In this report, we describe a new surgical approach for the management of a patient with postoperative NCF. In the present case, in addition to removing the fistulous tract, we also performed an omental flap grafting to tightly cover the kidney. In addition to limiting and controlling the local inflammation, the omental flap prevents contact between the kidney and the flank muscle on its posterior rim. No recurrence or complications occurred throughout 10 months of follow-up. The NCF was successfully treated with completely removal of the sinus tract and omental flap grafting, without nephrectomy. This case adds new aspects to the treatment of NCF.

With the continuous improvement in material life, people are paying more and more attention to air quality; therefore, it is critical to design efficient and stable gas sensor devices. In this work, a flowery WSe2 nanostructure and its nanocomposite (Au@WSe2) decorated with Au nanoparticles were fabricated by the hydrothermal method. The performance of a resistive sensor with flowery WSe2 and Au@WSe2 sensors was evaluated by detecting volatile organic compounds such as ethanol, isoamylol, n-butyl alcohol, isopropanol, isobutanol and n-propanol. The results show that Au-nanoparticle-decorated flowery WSe2 can decrease the optimal working temperature from 215 °C to 205 °C and significantly enhance the response of flowery WSe2. The response values to isoamylol are the highest (as high as 44.5) at a low gas concentration (100 ppm), while the response values to ethanol are the highest (as high as 178.5) at a high gas concentration (1000 ppm) among the six different alcohols. Moreover, the response is steady and repeatable. The results demonstrate that the Au@WSe2 substrate has good responsiveness and selectivity, which makes it a promising candidate for gas detection.

Background: To determine the distribution and antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of pathogenic bacteria in patients with chronic cutaneous wounds on a national scale.Methods: A retrospective study was conducted using the data recorded between January 1, 2018 and January1, 2020 in 195 hospitals across China. After screening the data, 815 patients with chronic wounds were finally analyzed. The data collected included information about the patients' general condition and local cutaneous wound assessments, especially microbial culture and antibiotic susceptibility tests. The analyses were performed using SPSS Version 26.Results: The study included 815 patients (290 [35.6%] females; 63 [50–74] years). The most common causes of chronic cutaneous wounds were diabetes (183, 22.5%), infection (178, 21.8%), and pressure (140, 17.2%). Among these, 521(63.9%) samples tested yielded microbial growth, including 70 (13.4%) polymicrobial infection and 451 (86.6%) monomicrobial infection. The positive rate of microbial culture was highest in wound tissue of ulcers caused by infection (87.6%), followed by pressure (77.1%), diabetes (68.3%), and venous diseases (67.7%). Bates-Jensen wound assessment tool (BWAT) scores >25 and wounds that lasted for more than 3 months had a higher positive rate of microbial culture. BWAT scores >25 and wounds in the rump, perineum, and feet were more likely to exhibit polymicrobial infection. A total of 600 strains were isolated, of which 46.2% (277 strains) were Gram-positive bacteria, 51.3% (308 strains) were Gram-negative bacteria, and 2.5% (15 strains) were fungi. The most common bacterial isolates were Staphylococcus aureus (29.2%), Escherichia coli (11.5%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (11.0%), Proteus mirabilis (8.0%), and Klebsiella pneumoniae (5.8%). The susceptibility tests showed that 116 cultured bacteria were Multidrug resistant (MDR) strains. The resistance rates of S. aureus were 92.0% (161/175) to penicillin, 58.3% (102/175) to erythromycin, and 50.9% (89/175) to clindamycin. Vancomycin was the most effective antibiotic (0% resistance rate) against all Gram-positive bacteria. Besides, the resistance rates of E. coli were 68.1% (47/69) to ampicillin, 68.1% (47/69) to ciprofloxacin, 60.9% (42/69) to levofloxacin. However, all the isolated Gram-negative bacteria showed low resistance rates to tigecycline (3.9%) and amikacin (3.6%).Conclusions: The distribution of bacteria isolated from chronic cutaneous wounds varies with the BWAT scores, causes, duration, and the location of wounds. Multidrug resistance is a serious health issue, and therefore antibiotics used in chronic wounds must be under strict regulation. Our findings may help clinicians in making informed decisions regarding antibiotic therapy.

Developing high-performance electrode materials is in high demand for the development of supercapacitors. Herein, defect and interface engineering has been simultaneously realized in NiMoO4 nanowire arrays (NWAs) using a simple sucrose coating followed by an annealing process. The resultant hierarchical oxygen-deficient NiMoO4@C NWAs (denoted as “NiMoO4−x@C”) are grown directly on conductive ferronickel foam substrates. This composite affords direct electrical contact with the substrates and directional electron transport, as well as short ionic diffusion pathways. Furthermore, the coating of the amorphous carbon shell and the introduction of oxygen vacancies effectively enhance the electrical conductivity of NiMoO4. In addition, the coated carbon layer improves the structural stability of the NiMoO4 in the whole charging and discharging process, significantly enhancing the cycling stability of the electrode. Consequently, the NiMoO4−x@C electrode delivers a high areal capacitance of 2.24 F cm−2 (1720 F g−1) at a current density of 1 mA cm−2 and superior cycling stability of 84.5% retention after 6000 cycles at 20 mA cm−2. Furthermore, an asymmetric super-capacitor device (ASC) has been constructed with NiMoO4−x@C as the positive electrode and activated carbon (AC) as the negative electrode. The as-assembled ASC device shows excellent electrochemical performance with a high energy density of 51.6 W h kg−1 at a power density of 203.95 W kg−1. Moreover, the NiMoO4//AC ASC device manifests remarkable cyclability with 84.5% of capacitance retention over 6000 cycles. The results demonstrate that the NiMoO4−x@C composite is a promising material for electrochemical energy storage. This work can give new insights on the design and development of novel functional electrode materials via defect and interface engineering through simple yet effective chemical routes.

Flavanols, a common class of secondary plant metabolites, exhibit several beneficial health properties by acting as antioxidant, anticarcinogen, cardioprotective, anti-microbial, anti-viral, and neuroprotective agents. Furthermore, some flavanols are considered functional ingredients in dairy products. Based on their structural features and health-promoting functions, flavanols have gained the attention of pharmacologists and botanists worldwide. This review collects and summarizes 121 flavanols comprising four categories: flavan-3-ols, flavan-4-ols, isoflavan-4-ols, and flavan-3,4-ols. The research of the various structural features and pharmacological activities of flavanols and their derivatives aims to lay the groundwork for subsequent research and expect to provide mentality and inspiration for the research. The current study provides a starting point for further research and development.

Abstract CdSSe nanobelts (NBs) are synthesized by thermal evaporation and then characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), photoluminescence (PL), and cathodoluminescence (CL). It is found that the CdSSe NBs have a good morphology and microstructure without defects. CL is sensitive to the defects of CdSSe NBs; thus, we can select single nanobelt with homogeneous CL emission to prepare a detector. Based on it, the photodetector of single CdSSe NB was developed and its photoelectric properties were investigated in detail. It is found that under illumination of white light and at the bias voltage of 1 V, the photocurrent of a single CdSSe nanobelt device is 1.60 × 10−7 A, the dark current is 1.96 × 10−10 A, and the ratio of light current to dark one is 816. In addition, the CdSSe nanobelt detector has high photoelectric performance with spectral responsivity of 10.4 AW−1 and external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 19.1%. Its rise/decay time is about 1.62/4.70 ms. This work offers a novel strategy for design wavelength-controlled photodetectors by adjusting their compositions.

Abstract Ferroelectric field-effect transistors (FeFETs) with single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) dominated micron-wide stripe patterned as channel, (Bi,Nd)4Ti3O12 films as insulator, and HfO2 films as defect control layer were developed and fabricated. The prepared SWCNT-FeFETs possess excellent properties such as large channel conductance, high on/off current ratio, high channel carrier mobility, great fatigue endurance performance, and data retention. Despite its thin capacitance equivalent thickness, the gate insulator with HfO2 defect control layer shows a low leakage current density of 3.1 × 10−9 A/cm2 at a gate voltage of − 3 V.

Abstract Human soft-tissue sarcomas (STS) are rare mesenchymal tumors with a 5-year survival rate of 50%, highlighting the need for further STS research. Research has been hampered by limited human sarcoma cell line availability and the large number of STS subtypes, making development of STS cell lines and animal models representative of the diverse human STS subtypes critical. Pigs represent ideal human disease models due to their similar size, anatomy, metabolism, and genetics compared to humans. The Oncopig encodes inducible KRAS G12D and TP53 R167H transgenes, allowing for STS modeling in a spatial and temporal manner. This study utilized Oncopig STS cell line (fibroblast) and tumor (leiomyosarcoma) RNA-seq data to compare Oncopig and human STS expression profiles. Altered expression of 3,360 and 7,652 genes was identified in Oncopig STS cell lines and leiomyosarcomas, respectively. Transcriptional hallmarks of human STS were observed in Oncopig STS, including altered TP53 signaling, Wnt signaling activation, and evidence of epigenetic reprogramming. Furthermore, master regulators of Oncopig STS expression were identified, including FOSL1, which was previously identified as a potential human STS therapeutic target. These results demonstrate the Oncopig STS model’s ability to mimic human STS transcriptional profiles, providing a valuable resource for sarcoma research and cell line development.

Abstract SnO2 nanobelts (NBs) have unique structural and functional properties which attract great attention in gas detecting. In this work, Eu doping is adopted to improve the gas sensitivity of pure SnO2, especially to enhance the response to one single gas. The Eu-doped SnO2 NBs, pure-SnO2 NBs, and their single NB devices are fabricated by simple techniques. The sensing properties of the two sensors have been experimentally investigated. It is found that the two sensors possess long-term stability with rapid response performance, and Eu doping improves the electronic performance and the gas-sensing response, particularly to acetone. In addition, the effects aroused by Eu have been theoretically calculated, which indicates that Eu doping enhances the sensing performance of SnO2. Consequently, Eu-doped SnO2 NBs show great potential applications in the detection of acetone.

Eu-doped In2O3 nanobelts (Eu-In2O3 NBs) and pure In2O3 nanobelts (In2O3 NBs) are synthesized by the carbon thermal reduction method. Single nanobelt sensors are fabricated via an ion beam deposition system with a mesh-grid mask. The gas-sensing response properties of the Eu-In2O3 NB device and its undoped counterpart are investigated with several kinds of gases (including H2S, CO, NO2, HCHO, and C2H5OH) at different concentrations and different temperatures. It is found that the response of the Eu-In2O3 NB device to 100 ppm of H2S is the best among these gases and the sensitivity reaches 5.74, which is five times that of pure In2O3 NB at 260 °C. We also found that the former has an excellent sensitive response and great selectivity to H2S compared to the latter. Besides, there is a linear relationship between the response and H2S concentration when its concentration changes from 5 to 100 ppm and from 100 to 1000 ppm. The response/recovery time is quite short and remains stable with an increase of H2S concentration. These results mean that the doping of Eu can improve the gas-sensing performance of In2O3 NB effectually.

CuO flower-like material (FM) was prepared via the facile hydrothermal method, and Ag nanoparticles were deposited on the CuO FM to obtain Ag@CuO composite. Rhodamine 6G (R6G) was used as the probe molecule on Ag@CuO FM substrate to study surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). It is discovered that it exhibited an excellent SERS performance with limit of detection of 3.58 × 10−16 M and enhancement factor (EF) of 3.99 × 1010. More importantly, we used it as a SERS substrate to detect cadmium ions and found that its limit of detection (LOD) reaches up to 2.6 × 10−8 M, which is lower than the highest allowable Cd2+ concentration in drinking water set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Therefore, the proposed composite can be applicable to the detection of Cd2+ in drinking water and in soil.

Genome-wide transcriptomic studies in humans and mice have become extensive and mature. However, a comprehensive and systematic understanding of protein-coding genes and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) expressed during pig spleen development has not been achieved. LncRNAs are known to participate in regulatory networks for an array of biological processes. Here, we constructed 18 RNA libraries from developing fetal pig spleen (55 days before birth), postnatal pig spleens (0, 30, 180 days and 2 years after birth), and the samples from the 2-year-old Wild Boar. A total of 15,040 lncRNA transcripts were identified among these samples. We found that the temporal expression pattern of lncRNAs was more restricted than observed for protein-coding genes. Time-series analysis showed two large modules for protein-coding genes and lncRNAs. The up-regulated module was enriched for genes related to immune and inflammatory function, while the down-regulated module was enriched for cell proliferation processes such as cell division and DNA replication. Co-expression networks indicated the functional relatedness between protein-coding genes and lncRNAs, which were enriched for similar functions over the series of time points examined. We identified numerous differentially expressed protein-coding genes and lncRNAs in all five developmental stages. Notably, ceruloplasmin precursor (CP), a protein-coding gene participating in antioxidant and iron transport processes, was differentially expressed in all stages. This study provides the first catalog of the developing pig spleen, and contributes to a fuller understanding of the molecular mechanisms underpinning mammalian spleen development.

Single crystal SnO2 nanobelts (SnO2 NBs) and La-SnO2 nanobelts (La-SnO2 NBs) were synthesized by thermal evaporation. Both a single SnO2 NB sensor and a single La-SnO2 NB sensor were developed and their sensing properties were investigated. It is found that the single La-SnO2 NB sensor had a high sensitivity of 8.76 to ethanediol at a concentration of 100 ppm at 230 °C, which is the highest sensitivity of a single SnO2 NB to ethanediol among three kinds of volatile organic (VOC) liquids studied, including ethanediol, ethanol, and acetone. The La-SnO2 NBs sensor also exhibits a high sensitivity, good selectivity and long-term stability with prompt response time to ethanediol. The mechanism behind the enhanced sensing performance of La-doped SnO2 nanobelts is discussed.

Multiferroic materials have been receiving attention for their potential applications in multifunctional devices. Chemical substitution is an effective method for improving the physical properties of BiFeO3 (BFO). However, different experimental results have been reported for Lanthanum- (La-) and Manganese (Mn) -doped BFO ceramics. Here, we systematically studied the magnetic properties and spontaneous polarization of La-, Mn-, and Nitrogen (N) -doped tetragonal BiFeO3 using density functional theory with the generalized gradient approximation and U-value method. The calculated results demonstrated that the systems show ferromagnetism with Mn and N doping, whereas no magnetization was found with La doping in G- and C-type antiferromagnetic orderings. Our research further revealed that the ferromagnetism is attributed to the p-d orbital hybridization. Berry-phase polarization calculations predicted a large polarization of 149.2 µC/cm2 along the [001] direction of pure tetragonal BFO. We found that La and N substitution had little influence on the spontaneous polarization, whereas Mn substitution reduced the spontaneous polarization. The reduced energy barrier heights of the doped systems indicate the reduced stability of the off-centering ferroelectricity against the thermal agitation. These findings provide greater understanding for controlling and tuning the multiferroic properties of BFO.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are non-coding small RNA ∼22 nucleotides in length that can regulate the expression of a wide range of coding genes at the post-transcriptional level. Visceral adipose tissues (VATs) and subcutaneous adipose tissues (SATs), the two main fat compartments in mammals, are anatomically, physiologically, metabolically, and clinically distinct. Various studies of adipose tissues have focused mainly on DNA methylation, and mRNA and protein expression, nonetheless little research sheds directly light on the miRNA transcriptome differences between these two distinct adipose tissue types. Here, we present a comprehensive investigation of miRNA transcriptomes across six variant porcine adipose tissues by small RNA-sequencing. We identified 219 known porcine miRNAs, 97 novel miRNA*s, and 124 miRNAs that are conserved to other mammals. A set of universally abundant miRNAs (i.e., miR-148a-3p, miR-143-3p, miR-27b-3p, miR-let-7a-1-5p, and miR-let-7f-5p) across the distinct adipose tissues was found. This set of miRNAs may play important housekeeping roles that are involved in adipogenesis. Clustering analysis indicated significant variations in miRNA expression between the VATs and SATs, and highlighted the role of the greater omentum in responding to potential metabolic risk because of the observed enrichment in this tissue of the immune- and inflammation-related miRNAs, such as the members of miR-17-92 cluster and miR-181 family. Differential expression of the miRNAs between the VATs and SATs, and miRNA target prediction analysis revealed that the VATs-specific enriched miRNAs were associated mainly with immune and inflammation responses. In summary, the differences of miRNA expression between the VATs and SATs revealed some of their intrinsic differences and indicated that the VATs might be closely associated with increased risk of metabolic disorders.

Previous studies have indicated two main domestic pig dispersal routes in East Asia: one is from the Mekong region, through the upstream region of the Yangtze River (URYZ) to the middle and upstream regions of the Yellow River, the other is from the middle and downstream regions of the Yangtze River to the downstream region of the Yellow River, and then to northeast China. The URYZ was regarded as a passageway of the former dispersal route; however, this assumption remains to be further investigated. We therefore analyzed the hypervariable segements of mitochondrial DNA from 513 individual pigs mainly from Sichuan and the Tibet highlands and 1,394 publicly available sequences from domestic pigs and wild boars across Asia. From the phylogenetic tree, most of the samples fell into a mixed group that was difficult to distinguish by breed or geography. The total network analysis showed that the URYZ pigs possessed a dominant position in haplogroup A and domestic pigs shared the same core haplotype with the local wild boars, suggesting that pigs in group A were most likely derived from the URYZ pool. In addition, a region-wise network analysis determined that URYZ contains 42 haplotypes of which 22 are unique indicating the high diversity in this region. In conclusion, our findings confirmed that pigs from the URYZ were domesticated in situ.
