Abstract Background Potentially modifiable risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have been investigated in observational epidemiology studies in East Asian and European populations, whereas the causal associations of most of these risk factors remain unclear. Methods We collected genome-wide association summary statistics of 22 modifiable risk factors in East Asians and 33 risk factors in Europeans. Genetic summary statistics of HCC were sourced from the Biobank Japan study (1,866 cases and 195,745 controls) for East Asians, and the deCODE genetics study (406 cases and 49,302 controls) and the UK Biobank (168 cases and 372 016 controls) for Europeans. Two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were performed independently for East Asian and European populations. 3. Case report: Metastatic endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinoma with features of mucinous carcinoma

Endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinoma is a rare neoplasm of the skin appendages. The tumor typically exhibits slow growth and rarely metastasizes to distant sites. Herein, we report a case of a 77-year-old male who presented with a skin lesion on the right anterior chest wall 23 years ago. Fifteen years later, surgical excision was performed, and the pathological diagnosis was endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinomas. However, the histopathological examination revealed a coexistence of endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinomas and mucinous carcinoma components. Over the past 2 years, the patient developed lymph node metastasis in the right axilla, local recurrence on the right chest wall, and distant skin metastasis. The histopathological type of the lymph node metastasis was consistent with the primary tumor, while the recurrent and skin metastatic lesions exhibited mucinous carcinoma. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinoma with distant skin metastasis, characterized by two distinct carcinoma components in the histopathological morphology.

Abstract Background Foot‐and‐mouth disease virus (FMDV) is an important pathogen of the MicroRNA virus family. Infection of livestock can cause physical weakness, weight loss, reduced milk production, and a significant reduction in productivity for an extended period. It also causes a high mortality rate in young animals, seriously affecting livestock production. The host range of FMDV is mainly limited to cloven‐hoofed animals such as cattle and sheep, while odd‐toed ungulates such as horses and donkeys have natural resistance to FMDV. The mechanism underlying this resistance in odd‐toed ungulates remains unclear. Objective This study aimed to analyze the differences between FMDV‐infected cattle and horses to provide valuable insights into the host‐FMDV interaction mechanisms, thereby contributing to the control of foot‐and‐mouth disease and promoting the development of the livestock industry. Methods We observed the distribution of integrins, which help FMDV enter host cells, in the nasopharyngeal tissues of cattle and horses using immunohistochemistry. Then, we employed high‐throughput RNA sequencing (RNA‐Seq) to study the changes in host gene expression in the nasopharyngeal epithelial tissues of cattle and horses after FMDV infection. We performed enrichment analysis of GO and KEGG pathways after FMDV infection and validated related genes through qPCR. Results The immunohistochemical results showed that both cattle and horses had four integrin receptors that could assist FMDV entry into host cells. The transcriptome analysis revealed that after FMDV infection, pro‐apoptotic genes such as caspase‐3 (CASP3) and cytochrome C (CYCS) were upregulated in cattle, while apoptosis‐inhibiting genes such as NAIP and BCL2A1 were downregulated. In contrast, the expression trend of related genes in horses was opposite to that in cattle. Additionally, autophagy‐related genes such as beclin 1, ATG101, ATG4B, ATG4A, ATG13, and BCL2A1 were downregulated in cattle after FMDV infection, indicating that cattle did not clear the virus through autophagy. However, key autophagy genes including ATG1, ATG3, ATG9, ATG12, and ATG16L1 were significantly upregulated in horses after viral infection. Conclusion Both water buffaloes and Mongolian horses express integrin receptors that allow FMDV entry into cells. Therefore, the resistance of Mongolian horses to FMDV may result from more changes in intracellular mechanisms, including processes such as autophagy and apoptosis. Significant differences were observed between water buffaloes and Mongolian horses in these processes, suggesting that these processes influence FMDV replication and synthesis.

5. Diagnostic value of artificial intelligence-assisted CTA for the assessment of atherosclerosis plaque: a systematic review and meta-analysis

BackgroundArtificial intelligence (AI) has increasingly been applied to computed tomography angiography (CTA) images to aid in the assessment of atherosclerotic plaque. Our aim was to explore the diagnostic accuracy of AI-assisted CTA for plaque diagnosis and classification through a systematic review and meta-analysis.MethodsA systematic literature review was performed by searching PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library according to PRISMA guidelines. Original studies evaluating the diagnostic accuracy of radiomics, machine-learning, or deep-learning techniques applied to CTA images for detecting stenosis, calcification, or plaque vulnerability were included. The quality and risk of bias of the included studies were evaluated using the QUADAS-2 tool. The meta-analysis was conducted using STATA software (version 17.0) to pool sensitivity, specificity, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) to determine the overall diagnostic performance.ResultsA total of 11 studies comprising 1,484 patients were included. There was low risk of bias and substantial heterogeneity. The overall pooled AUROC for atherosclerotic plaque assessment was 0.96 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.94–0.97] across 21 trials. Of these, for ≥50% stenosis detection, the AUROC was 0.95 (95% CI 0.93–0.96) in five studies. For identifying ≥70% stenosis, the AUROC was 0.96 (95% CI 0.94–0.97) in six studies. For calcium detection, the AUROC was 0.92 (95% CI 0.90–0.94) in six studies.ConclusionOur meta-analysis demonstrates that AI-assisted CTA has high diagnostic accuracy for detecting stenosis and characterizing plaque composition, with optimal performance in detecting ≥70% stenosis.Systematic Review Registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/, PROSPERO, identifier (CRD42023431410).

Abstract The development of high-performance lead-free K0.5Na0.5NbO3-based piezoceramics for replacing commercial lead-containing counterparts is crucial for achieving environmentally sustainable society. Although the proposed new phase boundaries (NPB) can effectively improve the piezoelectricity of KNN-based ceramics, the difficulty of achieving saturated poling and the underlying multiscale structures resolution of their complex microstructures are urgent issues. Here, we employ a medium entropy strategy to design NPB and utilize texture engineering to induce crystal orientation. The developed K0.5Na0.5NbO3-based ceramics enjoys both prominent piezoelectric performance and satisfactory Curie temperature, thus exhibiting an ultrahigh energy harvesting performance as well as excellent transducer performance, which is highly competitive in both lead-free and lead-based piezoceramics. Comprehensive structural analysis have ascertained that the field-induced efficient multiscale polarization configurations irreversible transitions greatly encourages high saturated poling. This study demonstrates a strategy for designing high-performance piezoceramics and establishes a close correlation between the piezoelectricty and the underlying multiscale structures.

BackgroundThe neuropathologic mechanism of primary insomnia (PI) of females remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the features of amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF) and regional homogeneity (ReHo) in females with PI using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), and then explore the abnormalities of functional connectivity (FC).Materials and methodsA total of 39 female PI patients and 31 female healthy controls (HC) were enrolled in the study. The sleep condition was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and their depressive symptom was evaluated using the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD-24). The rs-fMRI was once conducted for every subject. ReHo, ALFF, and ROI-based FC were used to analyze the changes of brain function.ResultsALFF values were increased in the Cerebelum_4_5_L, as well as decreased ALFF in the bilateral Frontal_Sup_Medial (SFGmed), Angular_L (ANG.L), Parietal_Inf_R (IPL.R), SupraMarginal_R (SMG.R), and Postcentral_R (PoCG.R). ReHo values were increased in the Temporal_Pole_Mid_R (TPOsup.R), as well as decreased ReHo in the Insula_R (INS.R), Frontal_Inf_Oper_R (ORBinf.R), Putamen_R (PUT.R), Rolandic_Oper_R (ROL.R), bilateral Cingulum_Post (PCG), bilateral Frontal_Sup_Medial (SFGmed), bilateral anterior cingulate and paracingulate gyri (ACG), and the bilateral precuneus (PCUN). Across the entire brain, there was a decline in the FC between Angular_R and Frontal_Sup_Medial_L.ConclusionAlterations in brain regions of female patients with PI involved multiple functional networks, including the default mode network, the salience network, the central executive network, and the limbic network. Reduced coordination between functional networks may be an important mechanism for insomnia and may lead to reduced cognitive function and decision-making ability.

Abstract Objective The associations between plasma vitamin B12 level and anemia under different dietary patterns in elderly Chinese people are poorly understood. We aimed to examine the associations between plasma vitamin B12 levels and anemia under different dietary patterns in adults aged 65 years and older in nine longevity areas in China. Methods A total of 2405 older adults completed a food frequency questionnaire at the same time as a face-to-face interview. The dietary diversity score (DDS) was assessed based on the food frequency questionnaire, with the low DDS group referring to participants with a DDS score ≤ 4 points. Vitamin B12 levels were divided into two groups of high (>295 pg/mL) and low (≤ 295 pg/mL) with the median used as the cut-off point. Sub-analyses were also performed on older adults divided into tertiles of vitamin B12 levels: low ( 375 pg/mL) to study the association of these levels with anemia. Results Six hundred ninety-five (28.89%) of these people were diagnosed with anemia and had a mean age of 89.3 years. 11. MoNi4–NiO heterojunction encapsulated in lignin-derived carbon for efficient hydrogen evolution reaction

Molybdenum nickel alloy has been proved to be an efficient noble-metal-free catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline medium, but its electrocatalytic activity and stability need to be further improved to meet industrial requirements. In this study, carboxymethylated enzymatic hydrolysis lignin (EHL) was used as a biomacromolecule frame to coordinate with transition metal ions and reduced by pyrolysis to obtain the MoNi4–NiO heterojunction (MoNi4–NiO/C). The oblate sphere structure of MoNi4–NiO/C exposed a large catalytic active surface to the electrolyte. As a result, the hydrogen evolution reaction of MoNi4–NiO/C displayed a low overpotentials of 41 mV to achieve 10 mA cm−2 and excellent stability of 100 h at 100 mA cm−2 in 1 mol L−1 KOH, which was superior to that of commercial Pt/C. Lignin assisted the formation of NiO to construct the MoNi4–NiO interface and MoNi4–NiO heterojunction structure, which reduced the energy barrier by forming a more favorable transition states and then promoted the formation of adsorbed hydrogen at the heterojunction interface through water dissociation in alkaline media, leading to the rapid reaction kinetics. This work provided an effective strategy for improving the electrocatalytic performance of noble-metal-free electrocatalysts encapsulated by lignin-derived carbon.

Magnetite nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs) have garnered significant attention over the past twenty years, primarily due to their superparamagnetic properties. These properties allow the NPs to respond to external magnetic fields, making them particularly useful in various technological applications. One of the most fascinating aspects of Fe3O4 NPs is their ability to self-assemble into complex structures. Research over this period has focused heavily on how these nanoparticles can be organized into a variety of superstructures, classified by their dimensionality—namely one-dimensional (1D), two-dimensional (2D), and three-dimensional (3D) configurations. Despite a wealth of studies, the literature lacks a systematic review that synthesizes these findings. This review aims to fill that gap by providing a thorough overview of the recent progress made in the fabrication and organization of Fe3O4 NP assemblies via a bottom-up self-assembly approach. This methodology enables the controlled construction of assemblies at the nanoscale, which can lead to distinctive functionalities compared to their individual counterparts. Furthermore, the review explores the diverse applications stemming from these nanoparticle assemblies, particularly emphasizing their contributions to important areas such as imaging, drug delivery, and the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

To investigate the seismic behavior of composite columns with high-strength concrete-filled steel tube flanges and honeycomb steel webs (STHHC) after being subjected to freeze-thaw cycles, 36 full-scale STHHCs were designed with the following main parameters: the shear span ratio (λs), the axial compression ratio (n0), the number of freeze-thaw cycles (Nc), the concrete cubic compression strength (fcu), and the steel ratio of the section (αs). Compared with existing experimental data, the validity of the finite element modeling method was verified. Parameter analysis was conducted on 36 full-scale STHHCs to obtain the hysteresis curve of the composite columns and to clarify the impact of the different parameters on the skeleton curve, the energy dissipation capacity, the stiffness degradation, and the ductility of the composite columns. The results showed that the hysteresis curves of all specimens after freeze-thaw cycles exhibited an ideal shuttle shape, reflecting that this kind of composite column has good energy dissipation ability and freeze-thaw resistance. The specimens’ maximum bulging deformation and maximum stress both occurred at the column base. Finally, the restoring force model of this kind of composite column is therefore established, and design recommendations based on these results are proposed.

15. Numerical Study on the Axial Compression Behavior of Composite Columns with High-Strength Concrete-Filled Steel Tube and Honeycombed Steel Web Subjected to Freeze–Thaw Cycles

To investigate the axial compression behavior of composite columns with high-strength concrete-filled steel tube flanges and honeycombed steel web (STHHC) under load during freeze–thaw cycles, 48 full-scale composite column specimens were designed with different parameters: the restraint effect coefficient (ξ), concrete strength (fcu), number of freeze–thaw cycles (nd), slenderness ratio (λ), space–height ratio (s/hw), and hole–height ratio (d/hw). The finite element models of STHHC composite columns were simulated using ABAQUS finite element software (Version: 2021). The modeling method’s rationality was verified by comparing simulation results with experimental outcomes. Based on the finite element model, a parametric analysis of the composite columns under freeze–thaw cycles was conducted, analyzing their failure modes and load-bearing processes. The results indicate that the bearing capacity of the STHHC increased with increases in ξ and fcu, and decreased with a rise in λ. In contrast, the influence of s/hw and d/hw on the ultimate bearing capacity of the composite columns was relatively minor. An equation for calculating the axial bearing capacity of the STHHC composite columns under freeze–thaw cycles was derived using statistical regression methods and considering the impact of different parameters on the axial compressive performance of the composite columns, laying the foundation for the promotion and application of this type of composite column in practical engineering projects.

The development of fluorescent molecular imprinting sensors for direct, rapid, and sensitive detection of small organic molecules in aqueous systems has always presented a significant challenge in the field of detection. In this study, we successfully prepared a hydrophilic colloidal molecular imprinted polymer (MIP) with 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) using a one-pot approach that incorporated polyglycerol methacrylate (PGMMA-TTC), a hydrophilic macromolecular chain transfer agent, to mediate reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer precipitation polymerization (RAFTPP). To simplify the polymerization process while achieving ratiometric fluorescence detection, red fluorescent CdTe quantum dots (QDs) and green fluorescent nitrobenzodiazole (NBD) were introduced as fluorophores (with NBD serving as an enhancer to the template and QDs being inert). This strategy effectively eliminated background noise and significantly improved detection accuracy. Uniform-sized MIP microspheres with high surface hydrophilicity and incorporated ratiometric fluorescent labels were successfully synthesized. In aqueous systems, the hydrophilic ratio fluorescent MIP exhibited a linear response range from 0 to 25 μM for the template molecule 2,4-D with a detection limit of 0.13 μM. These results demonstrate that the ratiometric fluorescent MIP possesses excellent recognition characteristics and selectivity towards 2,4-D, thus, making it suitable for selective detection of trace amounts of pesticide 2,4-D in aqueous systems.

To establish a method to identify the authenticity of manuka honey, this study compared different methods of DNA extraction from mānuka honey pollen, and it developed a DNA extraction method for mānuka honey supernatant and a real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) method for the detection of plant-derived ingredients in mānuka honey, including plant internal control, mānuka and kānuka. By analyzing the specificity, sensitivity, detection limit and comparing with the method of the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), the feasibility, accuracy and equivalence of this method were confirmed. The proposed DNA detection method could replace the MPI method, not only shaking off the dependence on kits, but also making up for the deficiency of identifying mānuka honey pollen only. It has an important application value and scientific significance for the identification of mānuka honey.

Abstract Background To establish a prognostic model to predict the overall survival (OS) in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). Methods The unresectable HCC patients treated with IMRT were retrospectively analyzed and randomized into development cohort (n = 237) and validation cohort (n = 103) in a 7:3 ratio. We developed a prognosis model with the multivariate Cox regression analysis in the development cohort to derive the predictive nomogram, which was then validated in the validation cohort. Model performance was evaluated by the c-index, the area under curve(AUC) and the calibration plot. Results A total of 340 patients were enrolled. Tumor numbers > 3 (HR = 1.69, 95% CI = 1.21–2.37), AFP ≥ 400 ng/ml (HR = 1.52, 95% CI = 1.10–2.10), PLT 150U/L (HR = 1.65, 95% CI = 1.15–2.37) and prior surgery (HR = 0.63, 95% CI = 0.43–0.93) were independent prognostic factors. The nomogram based on independent factors was constructed. The c-index for OS prediction was 0.658 (95% CI, 0.647–0.804) and 0.683 (95% CI, 0.580–0.785) in the development and validation cohort, respectively. The nomogram demonstrated good discriminative ability with AUC rates of 0.726, 0.739 and 0.753 at 1-year, 2-year and 3-year models in the development cohort, and 0.715, 0.756 and 0.780 in the validation cohort, respectively. Additionally, good prognostic discrimination of the nomogram is also reflected in stratifying patients into two subgroups with distinct prognosis. Conclusions We constructed a prognostic nomogram for predicting the survival of patients with unresectable HCC treated with IMRT.

Adalimumab but neither etanercept nor certolizumab-pegol has been reported to induce a wound-healing profile in vitro by regulating macrophage differentiation and matrix metalloproteinase expression, which may underlie the differences in efficacy between various TNF-α inhibitors in impaired wound healing in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa, a chronic inflammatory skin disease. To examine and compare the efficacy of various TNF inhibitors in cutaneous wound healing in vivo, a human TNF knock-in Leprdb/db mouse model was established to model the impaired cutaneous wound healing as seen in hidradenitis suppurativa. The vehicle group exhibited severe impairments in cutaneous wound healing. In contrast, adalimumab significantly accelerated healing, confirmed by both histologic assessment and a unique healing transcriptional profile. Moreover, adalimumab and infliximab showed similar levels of efficacy, but golimumab was less effective, along with etanercept and certolizumab-pegol. In line with histologic assessments, proteomics analyses from healing wounds exposed to various TNF inhibitors revealed distinct and differential wound-healing signatures that may underlie the differential efficacy of these inhibitors in accelerating cutaneous wound healing. Taken together, these data revealed that TNF inhibitors exhibited differential levels of efficacy in accelerating cutaneous wound healing in the impaired wound-healing model in vivo.

Microbial communities, demonstrating dynamic changes in cadavers and the surroundings, provide invaluable insights for forensic investigations. Conventional methodologies for microbiome sequencing data analysis face obstacles due to subjectivity and inefficiency. Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents an efficient and accurate tool, with the ability to autonomously process and analyze high-throughput data, and assimilate multi-omics data, encompassing metagenomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics. This facilitates accurate and efficient estimation of the postmortem interval (PMI), detection of crime location, and elucidation of microbial functionalities. This review presents an overview of microorganisms from cadavers and crime scenes, emphasizes the importance of microbiome, and summarizes the application of AI in high-throughput microbiome data processing in forensic microbiology.

BackgroundAlthough the sphingolipid metabolism pathway is known to play a significant role in tumor progression, there have been few studies on how genetic variants in the sphingolipid metabolism pathway genes affect the survival of patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).MethodsWe utilized available genotyping data to conduct multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression model analysis, examining the associations of 12,188 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 86 sphingolipid metabolism pathway genes on the survival of 866 HBV-HCC patients, and the model was also used in additive interaction analysis. We used bioinformatics functional prediction and expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL) analysis to explore the potential functions of SNPs and to evaluate the association of SNPs with the corresponding mRNA expression, respectively. We also used the online database TIMER2.0 (http://timer.comp-genomics.org/) to analyze the relationship between the corresponding mRNA expression levels and immune cell infiltration.ResultsOur study found that GBA2 rs1570247 G>A was significantly associated with elevated survival of HBV-HCC patients [(hazards ratio (HR)=0.74, 95% confidence interval (CI)=0.64-0.86, PA in sphingolipid metabolism pathway may be a key factor for survival of HBV-HCC patients by regulating the expression of corresponding genes and affecting the infiltration level of immune cells.

Ethanamizuril (EZL) is a new anticoccidial drug developed by our Shanghai Veterinary Research Institute. Since EZL is almost insoluble in water, we conducted a study to improve the solubility of EZL by forming inclusion complexes with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD). In this study, we performed molecular docking and then systematically compared the interactions of EZL with β-CD and HP-β-CD in both aqueous solution and the solid state, aiming to elucidate the solubilization effect and mechanism of cyclodextrins (CDs). The interactions were also examined in the solid state using DSC, PXRD, and FT-IR. The interactions of EZL with CDs in an aqueous solution were investigated using PSA, UV-vis spectroscopy, MS, 1H NMR, and 2D ROESY. The results of phase solubility experiments revealed that both β-CD and HP-β-CD formed inclusion complexes with EZL in a 1:1 molar ratio. Among them, HP-β-CD exhibited higher Kf (stability constant) and CE (complexation efficiency) values as well as a stronger solubilization effect. Furthermore, the two cyclodextrins were found to interact with EZL in a similar manner. The results of our FT-IR and 2D ROESY experiments are in agreement with the theoretical results derived from molecular simulations. These results indicated that intermolecular hydrogen bonds existing between the C=O group on the triazine ring of EZL and the O-H group of CDs, as well as the hydrophobic interactions between the hydrogen on the benzene ring of EZL and the hydrogen of CDs, played crucial roles in the formation of EZL/CD inclusion complexes. The results of this study can lay the foundation for the future development of high-concentration drinking water delivery formulations for EZL.

To study the eccentric compression mechanical properties of ECC and UHPC filled-in double steel tubular (EUFDST) composite columns, 35 full-scale EUCFDST composite column specimens were designed by ABAQUS software with the slenderness ratio (λ), UHPC cylinder compressive strength (fcu), inner and outer steel tubular strength (fy1, fy2), inner and outer steel tubular thickness (t1, t2), inner and outer steel tubular diameter ratio (Ω), eccentricity (e), and fiber content (γ) as the main parameters. By comparison with the simulation of the existing test, the correctness of the finite element modeling is verified. The parameter analysis of 35 full-scale EUFDST composite columns was carried out to obtain the eccentric load-mid-span deflection curve of the specimens. The failure mechanism, ductility coefficient, and stiffness degradation of the composite columns under different parameters were analyzed, and the section of the composite column was verified to satisfy the plane section assumption. The variation trend of maximum load-bearing capacity and the ductility of composite columns under different parameter conditions was obtained. By introducing the eccentricity correction coefficient and slenderness ratio correction coefficient, the calculation equation of the eccentric maximum load-bearing capacity of EUCFDST composite columns is statistically regressed, which provides a basis for the practical use of these columns.

Changes in land use/land cover (LULC) can impact water yield (WY) by altering the structural layout and functions of terrestrial ecosystems. Therefore, to ensure regional economic and ecosystem sustainability, it is critical to investigate the correlation between LULC change and WY. The GMOP-PLUS-InVEST (GPI) coupling model based on the gray multi-objective optimization model, the patch-generating land use simulation model, and the integrated valuation of ecosystem services and trade-offs model was used in this study. Establishing three different scenarios: business as usual (BAU), economic development scenario (ED), and ecological conservation scenario (EC) to predict the LULC distribution pattern in the Nansi Lake Basin (NLB) in 2035, and obtain the WY from 2000 to 2035. Getis-Ord Gi* and Anselin Local Moran's I were used to investigate the spatial–temporal features of WY at the grid scale. The results indicated that: (1) The dominant LULC types of the NLB were farmland and construction land. The primary transfer trend was construction land encroaching on farmland due to the acceleration of the urbanization process and policy intervention. (2) The results of the LULC simulation in the NLB in 2035 showed that the BAU had a continuous trend of change for nearly 20 years; Under the ED, the intensity of construction land encroachment on farmland was accelerating; Under the EC, an apparent increase in the proportion of ecological land could be seen, and the contradiction between construction land and farmland had eased, which was expected to be more in line with the policy and planning objectives. (3) LULC change had a significant effect on WY. From 2000 to 2035, WY of the NLB continued to increase, and in 2035, the WY under different scenarios was ED > EC > BAU. Spatially it always showed a high value distribution in the south and west in the NLB. The GPI coupling model can be used for LULC optimization and ecosystem service evaluation, providing ideas for rational planning of future LULC. Research results have significant reference significance for the formulation of LULC policies and the protection and restoration of ecological environment of the NLB.

Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) ceramics possess great potential for practical applications and thus improving their piezoelectric properties is crucial. [Formula: see text][Formula: see text][Formula: see text][Formula: see text][Formula: see text][Formula: see text]O3 (PSBZT) ceramics with high Curie temperature and excellent piezoelectric properties were fabricated via a conventional solid-state method, and the effect of Ba[Formula: see text] doping on the structural, dielectric, piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties was studied in detail. It is shown that doping of Ba[Formula: see text] significantly enhanced the piezoelectric properties of PSZT, the maximum [Formula: see text]533 pC/N and [Formula: see text]361[Formula: see text]C at [Formula: see text]= 0.02 were acquired. Furthermore, PSZT and PSBZT ceramics were used to prepare single element ultrasonic transducers, and their performance were compared and evaluated. The results demonstrate that the PSBZT ceramic-based transducer possesses better sensitivity and bandwidth than the PSZT ceramic-based transducer.

The heavy metals cadmium (Cd) and mercury (Hg) are known to be widespread environmental contaminants and high occupational exposure adversely affects the risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, evidence from epidemiological studies linking low Cd and Hg exposure (or non-industrial) to the risk of progression to CKD are conflicting. This study aimed to explore the association of low Cd and Hg exposure with the risk of CKD in Chinese adults aged ≥80 years. Methods:. The participants were recruited for the Healthy Aging and Biomarkers Cohort Study in 2017, an ongoing perspective survey conducted in longevity areas in China initially involving 3016 older adults. We used logistic regression models to estimate odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals of CKD setting Cd and Hg as categorical variables. Logistic regression with restricted cubic spline was used to characterize a dose-response relationships between Cd or Hg concentrations and the risk of CKD in the study population. Results:. The ORs for the risk of CKD comparing the fourth to the first quartile of blood Cd, blood Hg, urine Cd, and urine Hg were 1.77, 1.57, 2.03, and 1.50, respectively. Restricted cubic spline models showed that blood Cd and urine Hg were significantly linearly correlated with the risk of CKD, while blood Hg and urine Cd were non-linearly correlated with the risk of CKD with a steeper slope at concentrations

Abstract Streptomyces is well known for synthesis of many biologically active secondary metabolites, such as polyketides and non‐ribosomal peptides. Understanding the coupling mechanisms of primary and secondary metabolism can help develop strategies to improve secondary metabolite production in Streptomyces. In this work, Streptomyces albus ZD11, an oil‐preferring industrial Streptomyces strain, was proved to have a remarkable capability to generate abundant acyl‐CoA precursors for salinomycin biosynthesis with the aid of its enhanced β‐oxidation pathway. It was found that the salinomycin biosynthetic gene cluster contains a predicted 3‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA dehydrogenase (FadB3), which is the third enzyme of β‐oxidation cycle. Deletion of fadB3 significantly reduced the production of salinomycin. A variety of experimental evidences showed that FadB3 was mainly involved in the β‐oxidation pathway rather than ethylmalonyl‐CoA biosynthesis and played a very important role in regulating the rate of β‐oxidation in S. albus ZD11. Our findings elucidate an interesting coupling mechanism by which a PKS biosynthetic gene cluster could regulate the β‐oxidation pathway by carrying β‐oxidation genes, enabling Streptomyces to efficiently synthesize target polyketides and economically utilize environmental nutrients.

Methods We compared oocyst production and sporulation between EZL-sensitive (S) and EZL-resistant Eimeria tenella strains (R10 and R200) and used label-free quantitative proteomics to identify differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) between these strains. Results We generated two EZL-resistant E. tenella strains: strain R10, which was induced using a constant dose of 10 mg EZL/kg poultry feed, and strain R200, which was generated by gradually increasing the EZL dosage to 200 mg EZL/kg poultry feed. With an increase in resistance, the total oocyst output decreased, but the percentage of sporulation did not change significantly. We identified a total of 7511 peptides and 1282 proteins, and found 152 DEPs in the R10 strain versus the S strain, 426 DEPs in the R200 strain versus the S strain and 494 DEPs in the R200 strain versus the R10 strain. When compared with the S strain, 86 DEPs were found to have consistent trends in both resistant strains. The DEPs were primarily involved in ATP and GTP binding, invasion, and membrane components. Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analyses of the DEPs suggested that they are involved in transcription and translation processes. Protein–protein interaction network analysis of the 86 DEPs showed that 10 proteins were hubs in the functional interaction network (≥ 8 edges) and five of them were ribosomal proteins. Conclusions The results of the present study indicate that the resistance mechanisms of E. tenella against EZL might be related to the transcriptional and translational processes, especially in the factors that inhibit the growth of parasites. The DEPs found in this study provide new insights into the resistance mechanisms of E. tenella against EZL. Further research on these potential targets holds promise for new chemotherapeutic approaches for controlling E. tenella infections. Graphical Abstract

As a transmission medium and heating energy, microwave is widely favored due to its high efficiency, strong selectivity, and easy control. Here, the effects of different heating methods (conventional thermal induction (CI) and microwave induction (MI)) on the polymerization rate of polycarboxylate superplasticizer (PCE) were investigated. Compared with CI, MI significantly boosted the polymerization rate (by approximately 51 times) and markedly decreased the activation energy (Ea), from 46.83 kJ mol−1 to 35.07 kJ mol−1. The polar of the monomers and initiators in the PCE synthesis contributes to varying permittivities and loss factors under the microwave field, which are influenced by their concentration and reaction temperature. The insights gained from the microwave thermal effects and the micro-kinetics of the PCE polymerization system are able to propose theoretical underpinnings for the industrial-scale application of microwave induction polymerization, potentially steering the synthesis of polymer materials towards a more efficient and cleaner process.

In order to investigate the mechanical behavior of FRP-reactive powder concrete composite tanks with floating tops (FRPCTs) subjected to gravity, twenty-two full-scale FRPCTs were designed with varying parameters for the inner diameter of the storage tank (D) and the thickness of the reactive powder concrete (tc). Based on nonlinear constitutive models and the contact of the materials, and considering tank–liquid coupling, three-dimensional finite element refined models of FRPCTs were established under gravity with ADINA8.5 finite element software, and finite element models of FRPCTs under gravity were verified based on theoretical frequency formulae and existing static tests. Then, the influence of the regularity of different parameters on the equivalent stress, hoop stress, radial stress, and axial stress of the FRPCTs was obtained, and the stress distributions of FRPCTs were clearly described. The results show that the natural frequency of FRPCTs increases gradually with an increase in the height of the tank liquid (Hw); however, the natural frequency of FRPCTs reduces with an increase in D. The equivalent stress, hoop stress, radial stress, and axial stress of the FRP plate and RPC decrease slowly with an increase in tc. The axial stress of the inner RPC increases with an increase in D. The equivalent stress of the inner FRP plate subjected to gravity is distributed in a W shape, the hoop stress, and the axial stress of the FRPCTs are distributed in a U shape, and the radial stress of the inner FRP plate is distributed in an I shape. The maximum displacement occurs in the middle of the FRPCTs, and the bonding between the FRP plate and the concrete is better. Finally, a calculation formula for the variation in the regularity of the tc is developed with different D, and design and construction suggestions for FRPCTs are given, which can provide technical support for the application of the FRPCTs in practical engineering.

Objective The experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of maternal undernutrition during late pregnancy on the expressions of genes involved in growth and development in ovine fetal perirenal brown adipose tissue (BAT). Methods Eighteen ewes with singleton fetuses were allocated to three groups at day 90 of pregnancy: restricted group 1 (RG1, 0.33 MJ metabolisable energy [ME]/kg body weight [BW]0.75/d, n = 6), restricted group 2 (RG2, 0.18 MJ ME/kg BW0.75/d, n = 6), and a control group (CG, ad libitum, 0.67 MJ ME/kg BW0.75/d, n = 6). The fetuses were removed at day 140 of pregnancy. All data were analyzed by using the analysis of variance procedure. Results The perirenal fat weight (p = 0.0077) and perirenal fat growth rate (p = 0.0074) were reduced in RG2 compared to CG. In fetal perirenal BAT, the protein level of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) (p = 0.0001) was lower in RG1 and RG2 compared with CG and UCP1 mRNA expression (p = 0.0265) was decreased in RG2. The protein level of myogenic factor 5 (Myf5) was also decreased in RG2 (p = 0.0001). In addition, mRNA expressions of CyclinA (p = 0.0109), CyclinB (p = 0.0019), CyclinD (p = 0.0015), cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1) (p = 0.0001), E2F transcription factor 1 (E2F1) (p = 0.0323), E2F4 (p = 0.0101), and E2F5 (p = 0.0018) were lower in RG1 and RG2. There were decreased protein expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPARγ) (p = 0.0043) and mRNA expression of CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein-α (C/EBPα) (p = 0.0307) in RG2 and decreased PPARγ mRNA expression (p = 0.0008) and C/EBPα protein expression (p = 0.0015) in both RG2 and RG1. Furthermore, mRNA expression of bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) (p = 0.0083) and BMP7 (p = 0.0330) decreased in RG2 and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor co-activator-1α (PGC-1α) reduced in RG2 and RG1. Conclusion Our observations support that repression of regulatory factors promoting differentiation and development results in the inhibition of BAT maturation in fetal perirenal fat during late pregnancy with maternal undernutrition.

BackgroundThyroid dysfunction is common in patients with kidney disease. However, the relationship between thyroid dysfunction and idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) remains unclear. This retrospective study aimed to investigate the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of patients with IMN and thyroid dysfunction compared to patients with IMN and without thyroid dysfunction.MethodsA total of 1052 patients with IMN diagnosed by renal biopsy were enrolled in this study, including 736 (70%) with normal thyroid function and 316 (30%) with abnormal thyroid function. We analyzed the clinicopathological features and prognostic data between the two groups, using propensity score matching (PSM) to reduce the bias. Logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the risk factors for IMN combined with thyroid dysfunction. Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox regression analysis were used to evaluate the association between thyroid dysfunction and IMN.ResultsPatients with IMN and thyroid dysfunction exhibited more severe clinical features. Female sex, lower albumin level, higher D-dimer level, severe proteinuria, and decreased estimated glomerular filtration rate were predictors of thyroid dysfunction in patients with IMN. After PSM, 282 pairs were successfully matched. Results from the Kaplan-Meier curves indicated that the thyroid dysfunction group had a lower complete remission rate (P = 0.044), higher relapse rate (P < 0.001), and lower renal survival rate (P = 0.004). The multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that thyroid dysfunction was an independent risk factor for complete remission [hazard ratio (HR) = 0.810, P = 0.045], relapse (HR = 1.721, P = 0.001), and composite endpoint event (HR = 2.113, P = 0.014) in IMN.ConclusionsThyroid dysfunction is relatively common in patients with IMN, and the clinical indicators are more severe in these patients. Thyroid dysfunction is an independent risk factor for poor prognosis in patients with IMN. More attention should be paid to thyroid function in patients with IMN.

Eighteen ewes carrying singleton fetus were randomly divided into control group (CG, ad libitum, 0.67 MJ ME/BW0.75/d, n = 6), restricted group 1 (RG1, 0.33 MJ ME/BW0.75/d, n = 6), and restricted group 2 (RG2, 0.18 MJ ME/BW0.75/d, n = 6) at d 90 of pregnancy. Maternal undernutrition was imposed from d 90 to 140 of pregnancy. At 140 d of gestation, fetal blood and pancreas tissue were collected to determine fetal pancreatic extracellular matrix, antioxidant capacity, and indicators of exocrine dysfunction. With the decrease of maternal nutrition, the fetal body weight, pancreatic weight, and DNA content were reduced in RG2 compared with CG, and increased and thickened collagen fibers were observed in RG2. Fetuses in RG2 exhibited increased collagen 3 (COL3) and fibronectin (FN) levels relative to CG, and the COL1:COL3 ratio was lower than that of the CG. For RG1, we found increased COL3 compared with CG. Malondialdehyde, serum amylase, and serum lipase in fetal pancreas in RG2 increased, but the total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) decreased compared with the CG. The impaired ovine fetal pancreas growth, antioxidant imbalance, and pancreatic exocrine dysfunction are induced by maternal undernutrition during late pregnancy.

In this paper, a polyacrylic elastomer latex with butyl acrylate (BA) as the core and methyl methacrylate (MMA) copolymerized with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) as the shell, named poly(BA-MMA-GMA) (PBMG), was synthesized by seeded emulsion polymerization. Cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) was dispersed in the polyacrylic latex to prepare PBMG/CNC dispersions with different CNC contents. The dried product was mixed with polylactic acid (PLA) to fabricate PLA/PBMG/CNC blends. The addition of PBMG and PBMG/CNC improved the mechanical properties of the PLA matrix. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to investigate the non-isothermal crystallization kinetics. The Avrami equation modified by the Jeziorny, Ozawa and Mo equations was used to analyze the non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of PLA and its blends. Analysis of the crystallization halftime of non-isothermal conditions indicated that the overall rate of crystallization increased significantly at 1 wt% content of CNC. This seemed to result from the increase of nucleation density and the acceleration of segment movement in the presence of the CNC component. This phenomenon was verified by polarizing microscope observation.

Considering this network as a graph, this paper presents a comprehensive survey from nodes, edges, to architectures of this graph, corresponding to laser communication terminals, laser space links, and laser space network architectures. For each content, current achievements are introduced and future trends are analyzed accordingly. Through this survey paper, we aim to present the prospect to develop laser space networks in the next space generation and provide potential research directions to interested researchers or engineers.

Due to the lack of scientific guidance on the usage of fertilizer, the overuse of chemical and organic fertilizer is commonly witnessed all over the world, which causes soil degradation and leads to environmental pollution. The effect of fertilizer strategies on soil properties, cucumber nutrients, and microbial community was investigated in this study with the aim to explore an optimized and enhanced fertilizer strategy. There were five fertilizer strategies conducted including CK (no fertilizer), M (cow dung manure only), NPK (chemical fertilizer only), NPKM (chemical fertilizer combined with manure), and DNPKM (30%-reducing chemical fertilizer combined with manure). It was found that different fertilizer strategies significantly affected the soil organic matter and nutrient levels and cucumber production and nutrient contents of the experimental field. Different fertilizer strategies showed dramatic effects on the alpha- and beta-diversity of soil microbial communities. Moreover, NPKM and DNPKM groups could significantly improve the bacterial abundance and fungal diversity. In addition, the structure of microbial communities was significantly changed in the presence of manure, chemical fertilizer, and their combination. Optimized combination of NPK with M improved the abundance of aerobic, biofilm formation-related, and Gram-negative bacteria and suppressed the anaerobic and Gram-positive bacteria. The presence of saprotrophs fungi was enhanced by all fertilizer strategies, especially the plethora of Gymnoascus. The combination of manure with chemical fertilizer could improve the availability of nutrients, and therefore reduce the adverse effects and potential risks induced by excessive fertilizer application. In conclusion, the new fertilization approach can not only meet the growth requirements of cucumber after reduced fertilization, but also protect soil health, which provides a new candidate for the eco-friendly technology to satisfy the topic of carbon neutrality.

As the interest in probing deep space increases, it is necessary to enhance the autonomous navigation capabilities of the spacecraft. Since traditional navigation methods rely on ground-based radiometric tracking, the vehicle has a significant communication delay resulting in no ability to handle unexpected situations on time. Image-based optical navigation allows interplanetary spacecraft to determine their orbits autonomously. This paper explores how to accurately extract optical observations from the original images to perform autonomous navigation. First, we introduce a simple and efficient idea to locate valuable contours of the celestial body based on gradient variations. Then, we establish a rough estimation with RANSAC to remove the outliers around the edges. Next, we propose a refined estimation based on the hybrid genetic algorithm to precisely estimate the navigation observations. Lastly, numerous experiments have confirmed that our method achieves outstanding accuracy and robustness.

49. Inter-observer agreement on the evaluation of automated breast volume scanner for breast masses

Objective: To explore inter-observer agreement on the evaluation of automated breast volume scanner (ABVS) for breast masses. Methods: A total of 846 breast masses in 630 patients underwent ABVS examinations. The imaging data were independently interpreted by senior and junior radiologists regarding the mass size ([Formula: see text][Formula: see text]cm, [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]cm and total). We assessed inter-observer agreement of BI-RADS lexicons, unique descriptors of ABVS coronal planes. Using BI-RADS 3 or 4a as a cutoff value, the diagnostic performances for 331 masses with pathological results in 253 patients were assessed. Results: The overall agreements were substantial for BI-RADS lexicons ([Formula: see text]–0.779) and the characteristics on the coronal plane of ABVS ([Formula: see text]), except for associated features ([Formula: see text]). However, the overall agreement was moderate for orientation ([Formula: see text]) for the masses [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]cm. The agreements were substantial to be perfect for categories 2, 3, 4, 5 and overall ([Formula: see text]–0.918). However, the agreements were moderate to substantial for categories 4a ([Formula: see text]), 4b ([Formula: see text]), and 4c ([Formula: see text]), except for category 4b of the masses [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]cm ([Formula: see text]). Moreover, for radiologists 1 and 2, there were no significant differences in sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive and negative predictive values with BI-RADS 3 or 4a as a cutoff value ([Formula: see text] for all). Conclusion: ABVS is a reliable imaging modality for the assessment of breast masses with good inter-observer agreement.

Although exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) has been associated with cognitive decline, little is known about which PM2.5 constituents are more harmful. Recent study on the association between PM2.5 and sleep quality prompted us to propose that sleep quality may mediate the adverse effects of PM2.5 components on cognitive decline. Understanding the association between PM2.5 constituents and cognitive function, as well as the mediating role of sleep quality provides a future intervention target for improving cognitive function. Using data involving 1834 participants from a multicenter cross-sectional study in nine cities of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH) region in China, we undertook multivariable linear regression analyses to quantify the association of annual moving-average PM2.5 and its chemical constituents with cognitive function and to assess the modifying role of exposure characteristic in this association. Besides, we examined the extent to which this association of PM2.5 constituents with cognitive function was mediated via sleep quality by a mediation analysis. We observed significantly negative associations between an increase of one interquartile range increase in PM2.5 [−0.876 (95 % CI: −1.205, −0.548)], organic carbon [−0.481 (95 % CI: −0.744, −0.219)], potassium [−0.344 (95 % CI: −0.530, −0.157)], iron [−0.468 (95 % CI: −0.646, −0.291)], and ammonium ion [−0.125 (95 % CI: −0.197, −0.052)] and cognitive decline. However, we didn’t find any individual components more harmful than PM2.5. Poor sleep quality partially mediated the estimated associations, which were explained ranging from 2.28 % to 11.99 %. Stratification analyses showed that people living in areas with lower greenspace were more susceptible to specific PM2.5 components. Our study suggests that the adverse effect of suffering from PM2.5 components is more pronounced among individuals with poor sleep quality, amplifying environmental inequalities in health. Besides reducing environmental pollution, improving sleep quality may be another measure worth considering to improve cognition if our research is confirmed in the future.
