Abstract The article examines Wutopia Lab’s transformation of the Water Tower Home (shuita zhijia, also know as ‘House on the House’), a top-floor unit of a residential building converted from a water tower located in a Bulinli lilong neighbourhood in Shanghai. In 2015, the top-floor unit was transformed into a three-bedroom apartment, which was featured in a popular reality TV show Dream Home. Using the concept of ‘raumplan’ as the primary design strategy, the design deploys various heights and platforms to re-organise the internal space while largely maintaining the exterior appearance of the building. It deliberately avoided homogeneous visual control and accommodated the residents’ complex functional requirements within a highly restricted space. The research scrutinises various actors’ involvement during the production of the reality TV show and the transformation process. It highlights how the design team navigated the stakeholders’ complex needs and the rigid yet ambiguous policy related to the regeneration of Shanghai’s unofficial urban heritage. By reflecting upon the various formal and informal design practices in this structure and its eventual demolition, the article illustrates the dilemmas in bottom-up regeneration of the historic urban environment in contemporary China.

Abstract In recent years, wearable electrochemical biosensors have received increasing attention, benefiting from the growing demand for continuous monitoring for personalized medicine and point‐of‐care medical assistance. Incorporating electrochemical biosensing and corresponding power supply into everyday textiles could be a promising strategy for next‐generation non‐invasive and comfort interaction mode with healthcare. This review starts with the manufacturing and structural design of electrochemical biosensing textiles and discusses a series of wearable electrochemical biosensing textiles monitoring various biomarkers (e.g., pH, electrolytes, metabolite, and cytokines) at the molecular level. The fiber‐shaped or textile‐based solar cells and aqueous batteries as corresponding energy harvesting and storage devices are further introduced as a complete power supply for electrochemical biosensing textiles. Finally, we discuss the challenges and prospects relating to sensing textile systems from wearability, durability, washability, sample collection and analysis, and clinical validation.

Grouted rock bolts subject to axial loading in the field exhibit various failure modes, among which the most predominant one is the bolt-grout interface failure. Thus, mechanical characterization of the grout is essential for understanding its performance in ground support. To date, few studies have been conducted to characterize the mechanical behaviour of fiber-reinforced grout (FRG) in rock bolt reinforcement. Here we experimentally studied the mechanical behaviour of FRG under uniaxial compression, indirect tension, and direct shear loading conditions. We also conducted a series of pullout tests of rebar bolt encapsulated with different grouts including conventional cementitious grout and FRG. FRG was developed using 15% silica fume (SF) replacement of cement (by weight) and steel fiber to achieve high-strength and crack-resistance to overcome drawbacks of the conventional grout. Two types of steel fibers including straight and wavy steel fibers were further added to enhance the grout quality. The effect of fiber shape and fiber volume proportion on the grout mechanical properties were examined. Our experimental results showed that the addition of SF and steel fiber by 1.5% fiber volume proportion could lead to the highest compressive, tensile, and shear strengths of the grout. The minimum volume of fiber that could improve the mechanical properties of grout was found at 0.5%. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis demonstrated that steel fibers act as an excellent bridge to prevent the cracks from propagating at the interfacial region and hence to aid in maintaining the integrity of the cementitious grout. Our laboratory pullout tests further confirmed that FRG could prevent the cylindrical grout annulus from radial crack and hence improve the rebar's load carrying capacity. Therefore, FRG has a potential to be utilized in civil and mining applications where high-strength and crack-resistance support is required.

Abstract Background Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a common disabling disease in orthopedics. Blocking the progression of ONFH in the early stage is essential for avoiding total hip replacement. Purposes The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of invasive treatment on early-stage ONFH. Methods According to the PRISMA guidelines, relevant English databases were searched in August 2022 to collect published research. Extract result indicators and conduct network meta-analysis using R software. Results A total of 15 RCTs were included. All patients were diagnosed with early-stage ONFH. The surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) showed that CD + BMMSC and CD + PRP were the most effective in improving HHS. The results of the league table showed that CD + BMMSC was superior to CD alone. Meanwhile, the SUCRA for FR showed that CD + BG + BMMSC was the most likely to be the most effective in reducing FR. The league table revealed that CD + BG, CD + BG + BMMSC, and CD + BMMSC were superior to CD alone, with statistically significant differences. Conclusion Considering the HHS and FR, CD + BMMSC may be the optimal treatment option to effectively delay the progression of ONFH and restore the postoperative function of patients. BackgroundRheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the body. Periploca forrestii was a miao ethnic drug in China that was used to treat arthritis for hundreds of years. But, the therapeutic mechanism is so far unknown. Therefore, the chemical component and effect of Periploca forrestii on arthritis in rats were studied using HPLC-QTOF MS, micro-CT, and other experiments in this paper.MethodMale Sprague-Dawley rats were used to assess the in vivo activity. HPLC QTOF-MS was used to analyze the chemical profile of the P. forrestii (PF). Bovine type II collagen and Complete Freund’s Adjuvant were used to stimulate and construct the collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) model. Three dosages of PF (100 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg, 400 mg/kg) were used to evaluate in vivo activity. Methotrexate was used as the positive drug. H/E staining and micro-CT methods were used to monitor the pathological changes of CIA rats. ELISA method was used to assess the serum level of immune- and inflammation-related cytokines. Immunohistochemical experiments were used to test the gene expression in JAK and Nf-κB pathways.Results42 compounds were identified from PF. PF administration lowered the increased spleen index compared with that of control and MTX groups, and partially restored body weight, reduced paw swelling, and arthritis score compared with the model group. Macroscopic assessment indicated inflamed paw with significant swelling in the model group, while the extent of inflammation and swelling was attenuated by both MTX and PF. H/E staining experiments demonstrated that pathological changes of synovial cells and infiltration of inflammatory cells were observed in the model group. In contrast, the MTX and PF treatment partially reversed these pathological changes. Micro-CT examination showed severe injuries and scars caused by inflammation for the model group, and in the high-dosage group (400 mg/kg) the inflammation-caused injuries and scars were dramatically ameliorated. Mechanism study showed that PF restored Nf-κB phosphorylation and JAK2 expression compared with the model group.ConclusionP. forrestii possesses a potent effect on CIA rats. Nf-κB and JAK2 pathways are involved in its protective effect on CIA.

BackgroundCreatinine-to-cystatin C ratio (CCR) and body composition (BC) parameters have emerged as significant prognostic factors in cancer patients. However, the potential effects of CCR in gastric cancer (GC) remains to be elucidated. This multi-center retrospective study explored the predictive and prognostic value of CCR and BC-parameters in patients with metastatic GC receiving PD-1 inhibitors-based combination therapy.MethodsOne hundred and thirteen GC patients undergoing PD-1 inhibitors-based combination therapy were enrolled at three academic medical centers from January 2021 to July 2023. A deep-learning platform based on U-Net was developed to automatically segment skeletal muscle index (SMI), subcutaneous adipose tissue index (SATI) and visceral adipose tissue index (VATI). Patients were divided into two groups based on the median of CCR or the upper tertile of BC-parameters. Logistic and Cox regression analysis were used to determine the effect of CCR and BC-parameters in predicting response rates and survival rates.ResultsThe CCR was positively correlated with SMI (r=0.43; P0.05). Multivariable logistic analysis identified that both low CCR (OR=0.423, P=0.066 for ORR; OR=0.026, P=0.005 for DCR) and low SATI (OR=0.270, P=0.020 for ORR; OR=0.149, P=0.056 for DCR) were independently associated with worse objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR). Patients with low CCR or low SATI had significantly lower 8-month progression-free survival (PFS) rate and 16-month overall survival (OS) rate than those with high CCR (PFS rate, 37.6% vs. 55.1%, P=0.011; OS rate, 19.4% vs. 44.9%, P=0.002) or those with high SATI (PFS rate, 37.2% vs. 53.8%, P=0.035; OS rate, 8.0% vs. 36.0%, P

ABSTRACTWearable sweat sensors are gaining significant attention due to their unparalleled potential for noninvasive health monitoring. Sweat, as a kind of body fluid, contains informative physiological indicators that are related to personalized health status. Advances in wearable sweat sampling and routing technologies, flexible, and stretchable materials, and wireless digital technologies have led to the development of integrated sweat sensors that are comfortable, flexible, light, and intelligent. Herein, we report a flexible and integrated wearable device via incorporating a microfluidic system and a sensing chip with skin-integrated electronic format toward in-situ monitoring of uric acid (UA) in sweat that associates with gout, cardiovascular, and renal diseases. The microfluidic system validly realizes the real-time capture perspiration from human skin. The obtained detection range is 5–200 μM and the detection limit is 1.79 μM, which offers an importance diagnostic method for clinical relevant lab test. The soft and flexible features of the constructed device allows it to be mounted onto nearly anywhere on the body. We tested the sweat UA in diverse subjects and various body locations during exercise, and similar trends were also observed by using a commercial UA assay kit.

Abstract Extensive studies have been conducted on the movement of overlying strata when a single coal seam is mined. However, structural characteristics and associated stress field variation of the overlying strata over multiple coal seam mining remain unclear. Here we performed physical modelling experiments analogous to No. 42108 working face of Buertai coal mine, Shendong coalfield, where No. 22 coal seam (2.9 m thickness) was mined first, preceding No. 42 upper coal seam (6.1 m thickness) with an inter-coal-seam distance of 72.8 m. We employed DIC (digital image correlation) measurement and systematically-laid pressure cells to visualize the overlying strata movement and monitor stress field variations over multiple coal seam mining. We found that the stress of the inter-coal-seam strata increased significantly in the late mining stage of No. 22 coal seam due to the strata collapse, and culminated after compaction of the caved blocks. The inter-coal-seam strata stress gradually decreased over mining of No. 42 upper coal seam and arrived at zero after the inter-coal-seam strata collapsed. The mining of No. 42 upper coal seam aggravated the roof settlement of No. 22 coal seam; and the floor stress was noticeably lower than that of No. 22 coal seam due to the pressure-relief caused by the former mining activity. Our physical modelling findings advanced our understanding on structural characteristics and stress evolutions of overlying strata over multiple coal seam mining and offered guidance for prediction and mitigation of strata movement associated disasters in underground coal mining with geomechanical and mining conditions similar to those of Buertai coal mine.

Graphitic carbon nitride is a semiconducting material of a graphite-like 2D layered structure. It is well known for its photocatalytic properties, which can be exploited for solar-light-driven water splitting and degradation of organic pollutants. Here, we report its capabilities of catalyzing the reduction of the azo bond by hydrazine to two amines under visible light. This photocatalytic reaction provides a novel, appealing way to reduce azo dye wastes as pollutants other than degradation. With this method, the azo dye wastes can be photochemically converted to amines, which can be used as precursors for new azo dyes.

A method for enhancing the resolution of 3D imaging reconstruction by employing the polarization modulation of electro-optical crystals is proposed. This technique utilizes two polarizers oriented perpendicular to each other along with an electro-optical modulation crystal to achieve high repetition frequency and narrow pulse width gating. By varying the modulation time series of the electro-optical crystal, three-dimensional gray images of the laser at different distances are acquired, and the three-dimensional information of the target is reconstructed using the range energy recovery algorithm. This 3D imaging system can be implemented with large area detectors, independent of the an Intensified Charge-Coupled Device (ICCD) manufacturing process, resulting in improved lateral resolution. Experimental results demonstrate that when imaging a target at the distance of 20 m, the lateral resolution within the region of interest is 2560 × 2160, with a root mean square error of 3.2 cm.

LiDAR offers a wide range of uses in autonomous driving, remote sensing, urban planning, and other areas. The laser 3D point cloud acquired by LiDAR typically encounters issues during registration, including laser speckle noise, Gaussian noise, data loss, and data disorder. This work suggests a novel Student’s t-distribution point cloud registration algorithm based on the local features of point clouds to address these issues. The approach uses Student’s t-distribution mixture model (SMM) to generate the probability distribution of point cloud registration, which can accurately describe the data distribution, in order to tackle the problem of the missing laser 3D point cloud data and data disorder. Owing to the disparity in the point cloud registration task, a full-rank covariance matrix is built based on the local features of the point cloud during the objective function design process. The combined penalty of point-to-point and point-to-plane distance is then added to the objective function adaptively. Simultaneously, by analyzing the imaging characteristics of LiDAR, according to the influence of the laser waveform and detector on the LiDAR imaging, the composite weight coefficient is added to improve the pertinence of the algorithm. Based on the public dataset and the laser 3D point cloud dataset acquired in the laboratory, the experimental findings demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has high practicability and dependability and outperforms the five comparison algorithms in terms of accuracy and robustness.

This paper investigates the frictional behavior of the infilled rock fracture under dynamic normal stress. A series of direct shear tests were conducted on saw-cut granite fractures infilled with quartz using a self-developed dynamic shear apparatus, and the effects of normal load oscillation amplitude, normal load oscillation period and sliding velocity were studied. The test results reveal that the shear response can be divided into three stages over a whole loading-unloading process, characterized by different time spans and stress variations. Generally, a smaller oscillation amplitude, a longer oscillation period and a fast shear velocity promote the stability of the friction system, which is also confirmed by the Coulomb failure criterion calculated based on the observed periodic apparent friction coefficient. The dynamic strengthening/weakening phenomenon is dependent on the oscillation amplitude and product of sliding velocity and oscillation period (vT). Also, the rate and state friction law incorporating the parameter α that characterizes the normal stress variation is employed to describe the dynamic friction coefficient but exhibits an incompetent performance when handling intensive variation in normal stress. Finally, the potential seismicity induced by oscillating normal stress based on the observed stress drop is analyzed. This work helps us understand the sliding process and stability evolution of natural faults, and its benefits for relative hazard mitigation.

Raising attentions have focused on how to alleviate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from orchard system while simultaneously increase fruit production. Microalgae-based biofertilizer represents a promising resource for improving soil fertility and higher productivity. However, the effects of microalgae application more especially live microalgae on GHG emissions are understudied. In this study, fruit yield and quality, GHG emissions, as well as soil organic carbon and nitrogen fractions were examined in a hawthorn orchard, under the effects of live microalgae-based biofertilizer applied at three doses and two modes. Compared with conventional fertilization, microalgae improved hawthorn yield by 15.7%-29.6% with a maximal increment at medium dose by root application, and significantly increased soluble and reducing sugars contents at high dose. While microalgae did not increase GHG emissions except for nitrous oxide at high dose by root application, instead it significantly increased methane uptake by 1.5-2.3 times in root application. In addition, microalgae showed an increasing trend in soil organic carbon content, and significantly increased the contents of soil dissolved organic carbon and microbial biomass carbon, as well as soil ammonium nitrogen and dissolved organic nitrogen at medium dose with root application. Overall, the results indicated that the live microalgae could be used as a green biofertilizer for improving fruit yield without increasing GHG emissions intensity and the comprehensive greenhouse effect, in particular at medium dose with root application. We presume that if lowering chemical fertilizer rates, application of the live microalgae-based biofertilizer may help to reduce nitrous oxide emissions without compromising fruit yield and quality.

Abstract Expanding wearable technologies to artificial tactile perception will be of significance for intelligent human–machine interface, as neuromorphic sensing devices are promising candidates due to their low energy consumption and highly effective operating properties. Skin‐compatible and conformable features are required for the purpose of realizing wearable artificial tactile perception. Here, we report an intrinsically stretchable, skin‐integrated neuromorphic system with triboelectric nanogenerators as tactile sensing and organic electrochemical transistors as information processing. The integrated system provides desired sensing, synaptic, and mechanical characteristics, such as sensitive response (~0.04 kPa−1) to low‐pressure, short‐ and long‐term synaptic plasticity, great switching endurance (>10 000 pulses), symmetric weight update, together with high stretchability of 100% strain. With neural encoding, demonstrations are capable of recognizing, extracting, and encoding features of tactile information. This work provides a feasible approach to wearable, skin‐conformable neuromorphic sensing system with great application prospects in intelligent robotics and replacement prosthetics.

The Dulong people have accumulated a wealth of traditional botanical knowledge (TBK) over a long period on bamboo use to adapt to their living environment, which impacts many aspects of the life, culture, and creative productivity of the Dulong people. However, research on TBK associated with bamboo in Dulong communities is still lacking. It is urgent to investigate and document the TBK related to bamboo in the context of rapid economic development and social changes in Dulong communities. Field surveys were conducted four times between 2019 and 2020. Thirty informants were selected using snowball sampling and were interviewed using free lists and semi-structured interviews. Most informants were or had been engaged in bamboo collection and weaving. The participatory observation approach has also been applied to field surveys. The use value (UV) of bamboo species and the relative frequency of citations (RFC) were used to evaluate and compare the importance of bamboo plants used by the Dulong people. Through ethnoecological investigations, 12 bamboo species belonging to seven genera traditionally used by the Dulong people and TBK associated with bamboo were recorded. Phyllostachys sulphurea , Dendrocalamus fugongensis , and Fargesia pleniculmis were the most valuable and favored species, as indicated by their relatively high RFC and UV indices. The Dulong people have accumulated a wealth of TBK associated with bamboo and are familiar with the distribution, ecology, morphology, characteristics, and purpose of bamboo species in the Dulongjiang region. These bamboo plants and their traditional knowledge have great potential for conserving the local biodiversity and sustainable development. In the future, we will increase the growth of industries related to bamboo plants, such as bamboo shoots as food, bamboo as medication, bamboo for the weaving industry, and bamboo for biocultural diversity conservation.

The high standard of communication quality in optical access networks makes forward error correction (FEC) schemes, such as LDPC, an integral part of the system. However, pipeline conflict arising from data dependencies is a common issue encountered in the hardware implementation of layered QC-LDPC decoders. This paper proposes an efficient layered decoding architecture to reduce pipeline conflicts without introducing stall cycles. It can solve some of the pipeline conflicts by flexibly reordering the processing order of inter-layer and intra-layer submatrices offline. In addition, the patch method, based on variable-to-check messages, allows for the delayed use of gains between layer iterations, which can further minimize the performance loss caused by the remaining pipeline conflicts. The experimental results on the LDPC code of the IEEE802.16 standard in the OFDM-PON system demonstrate that the proposed architecture has sensitivity improvements of 0.125 dBm and 0.375 dBm, respectively, compared with our previous work and the method described in the other work. The optimized architecture improves the reliability of the decoder and can also make a contribution to efficient PON systems.

Abstract The mechanisms by which neonatal inflammation leads to cognitive deficits in adulthood remain poorly understood. Inhibitory GABAergic synaptic transmission plays a vital role in controlling learning, memory and synaptic plasticity. Since early-life inflammation has been reported to adversely affect the GABAergic synaptic transmission, the aim of this study was to investigate whether and how neonatal inflammation affects GABAergic synaptic transmission resulting in cognitive impairment. Neonatal mice received a daily subcutaneous injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 50 μg/kg) or saline on postnatal days 3–5. It was found that blocking GABAergic synaptic transmission reversed the deficit in hippocampus-dependent memory or the induction failure of long-term potentiation in the dorsal CA1 in adult LPS mice. An increase of mIPSCs amplitude was further detected in adult LPS mice indicative of postsynaptic potentiation of GABAergic transmission. Additionally, neonatal LPS resulted in the increased expression and function of K+–Cl−-cotransporter 2 (KCC2) and the decreased expression of transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1) in the dorsal CA1 during adulthood. The local TGF-β1 overexpression improved KCC2 expression and function, synaptic plasticity and memory of adult LPS mice. Adult LPS mice show hypermethylation of TGFb1 promoter and negatively correlate with reduced TGF-β1 transcripts. 5-Aza-deoxycytidine restored the changes in TGFb1 promoter methylation and TGF-β1 expression. Altogether, the results suggest that hypermethylation-induced reduction of TGF-β1 leads to enhanced GABAergic synaptic inhibition through increased KCC2 expression, which is a underlying mechanism of neonatal inflammation-induced hippocampus-dependent memory impairment in adult mice.

Abstract Background Haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (haplo-HSCT) is widely used as a curative treatment strategy for most types of hematological diseases. However, strategies for enhancing the graft versus leukemia (GVL) effect without aggravating the graft versus host disease (GVHD) effect are still being pursued. Methods A retrospective cohort study was performed to compare the outcomes between combined unrelated umbilical cord blood (UCB-haplo HSCT) and haplo HSCT. Results The results showed that neither acute GVHD (aGVHD) nor chronic GVHD (cGVHD) was increased in the UCB-haplo HSCT group, and the engraftment and infection rates were similar between the two groups. However, overall survival and progression-free survival were significantly improved, while transplantation-related mortality and relapse were significantly decreased in the UCB-haplo HSCT group by both univariate and multivariate analyses. Conclusion Our results indicated that the addition of a UCB unit could improve the prognosis of haplo-HSCT and enhance the GVL effect without increasing the incidence of GVHD. 18F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT imaging is increasingly used for the diagnosis, staging, and efficacy assessment of patients with prostate cancer. Compared with other PSMA tracers, 18F-PSMA-1007 is mainly cleared by the liver and bile and has lower urinary clearance, thus allowing a better assessment of the lesions around the bladder. However, there were some patients who showed an obvious concentration of the 18F-PSMA-1007 in the bladder, which may affect the observation of peripheral lesions, but the mechanism of this change is unknown. The aim of this study was to explore the cause of bladder 18F-PSMA-1007 concentration by assessing the clinical and imaging characteristics of 18F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT scans. A total of 284 patients were included in this retrospective study, and their clinical characteristics such as age, height, weight, Gleason score, metastases, different treatment methods, the level of liver and kidney function, PSA level, and imaging characteristics such as 18F-PSMA-1007 injected activity, the interval between injection to scan, physiological distribution (parotid gland, kidney, liver, spleen, intestine, obturator internus), pathological distribution (prostate lesions, metastases) were collected, and were compared after subgrouping using bladder urine SUVmax. This study showed that the distribution of bladder 18F-PSMA-1007 was not correlated with the above clinical and imaging characteristics, so further studies are needed to find the explanations, and thus to improve the disease assessment of this type of prostate cancer patients.

Late stage nitrogen (N) applications following basic fertilization are commonly used to ensure grain yield and increase grain protein content in wheat. Split N applications at the late growth stage of wheat are an effective measure to improve N absorption and transport and thus increase grain protein content. However, whether split N applications can alleviate the decrease in grain protein content induced by elevated atmospheric CO2 concentrations (e[CO2]) remains unclear. In the present study, a free-air CO2 enrichment system was used to investigate the effects of split N applications (at booting or anthesis) on grain yield, N utilization, protein content, and the composition of wheat under atmospheric (ACO2; 400 ± 15 ppm) and elevated CO2 concentrations (ECO2; 600 ± 15 ppm). The results showed that wheat grain yield and grain N uptake increased by 5.0% (being grains per ear by 3.0%, 1000-grain weight by 2.0%, and harvest index by 1.6%) and 4.3%, respectively, whereas grain protein content decreased by 2.3% under ECO2 conditions. Although the negative effect of e[CO2] on grain protein content was not alleviated by split N applications, gluten protein content was enhanced due to the alteration of N distribution in different protein fractions (albumins, globulins, gliadins, and glutenins). Compared to that without split N applications, the gluten content of wheat grains increased by 4.2% and 4.5% when late stage N was applied at the booting stage under ACO2 and anthesis under ECO2 conditions, respectively. The results indicate that rational handling of N fertilizers may be a promising approach to coordinating grain yield and quality under the effects of future climate change. However, compared to ACO2 conditions, the key timing for improving grain quality by split N applications should be postponed from the booting stage to anthesis under e[CO2] conditions.

The soft and fractured strata can cause significant deformation of surrounding rock during tunnel excavation. This study analyzes field monitoring test results and compares numerical simulations from the third bid project of the Dali I section construction within the water diversion project in central Yunnan to address the issue of significant deformation following tunnel excavation in soft and fractured strata. It proposes an optimized support scheme consisting of a densified steel arch and enhanced initial support strength and stiffness. In addition, the research investigates support effectiveness considering varying support strengths and steel arch ring spacing. The study findings indicated the following: (1) The tunnel traverses soft and fractured strata, causing unevenly distributed vertical convergence deformation around the cavern. The maximum settlement occurs at the crown, showing pronounced nonlinearity. (2) The maximum stress in the steel arch is concentrated at the arch crown, measuring −19.02 MPa. The arch remains compressed, with stress decreasing from the crown to the waist. (3) The axial force in the anchor bolt reduces from the crown to the arch’s waist on both sides. As the depth of the rock mass increases, the axial force in each anchor bolt decreases and the tension state is maintained. The maximum axial force reaches 46.57 kN. (4) The maximum displacement decreases from 4.21 to 0.15 cm after the optimized support structure is implemented, demonstrating the optimization scheme’s effectiveness. Future constructions can refer to this scheme and make necessary adjustments based on various terrain conditions to ensure safety.

In this work, a novel α-nucleating agent (NA) for polypropylene (PP) termed APAl-3C-12Li was prepared and evaluated compared with the commercially available type NA-21. For the synthesis of the organophosphate-type NA (APAl-3C), the -OH group of the acid part of NA-21 was substituted by the isopropoxy group. The structure of APAl-3C was analyzed by spectroscopy and element analysis, the results of which were consistent with the theoretical molecular formula. APAl-3C’s thermal stability was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TG), which showed only weak mass loss below 230 °C, meaning that it would not decompose during the processing of PP. The APAl-3C-12Li was used as a novel nucleating agent, studying its effects on crystallization, microstructure, mechanical and optical properties. Tests were performed in a PP random copolymer at different contents, in comparison to the commercial NA-21. The composite with 0.5 wt% APAl-3C-12Li has a similar crystallization temperature of 118.8 °C as with the addition of 0.5 wt% NA-21. An advantage is that the composite with the APAl-3C-12Li has a lower haze value of 9.3% than the counterpart with NA-21. This is due to the weaker polarity of APAl-3C-12Li after the introduction of methyl and better uniform dispersion in the PP matrix, resulting in stronger improvement of optical and mechanical properties.

To investigate the toppling displacement evolution characteristics of anti-dip rock slopes, the Xiaodongcao-Zhengjiadagou bank slope is taken as an engineering case, and firstly, the geological geometric distribution characteristics of the slope are obtained by superimposing the lithology, slope, and elevation raster layers of the slope through ArcGIS, and the geological partition with the largest area is the Lower Triassic Daye Formation, bottom elevation, and medium slope; based on the actual surface displacement monitoring data, the spatio-temporal evolution nephogram of toppling displacement of bank slope every half year is interpolated by Inverse Distance Weight method, and then the last displacement nephogram is assigned to the thousandth and superimposed with the geological geometric partition to obtain the displacement superposition characteristics. The results show that: the obvious zone of horizontal displacement deformation mainly occurs in the front and middle of the bank slope, mainly shear deformation, vertical displacement is primarily in the front and the back edge of the bank slope and the total displacement deformation is more similar to the horizontal displacement; the horizontal displacement value is larger than the vertical displacement value, the horizontal displacement deformation controls the overall deformation of the bank slope; through the analysis of the geometric superposition evolution of the anti-dip rock slope, the displacement superposition strong deformation zone is located at the boundary between the Triassic Jialingjiang Formation (T1j) and the Triassic Daye Formation (T1d).

In order to analyze the performance of a light detection and ranging system based on polarization modulation, it is necessary to theoretically analyze and model the polarization scattering characteristics of common target materials. In this paper, the shortcomings of the classical Hyde pBRDF (polarization bidirectional reflectance distribution function) model are analyzed. Based on the research results of many researchers in recent years, a new six-parameter pBRDF model is proposed. To verify the accuracy of the proposed model, this paper builds a measurement system for the polarization scattering characteristics of the target surface in the laser active imaging scene, and the polarization scattering characteristics of two common materials, namely a white paint coating and an aluminum plate, are measured. Based on the measurement results of the DOP (degree of polarization) of the scattered light of the target material and the BBO-FA (biogeography-based optimization-Firefly algorithm) algorithm, we performed inversion calculations on the key parameters of the target material. Using the parameters of the target material obtained via inversion, we use the model to simulate the Stokes vectors of the target and compare the simulated values of Stokes vectors with the measured values to verify the accuracy of the model. The verification results show that the simulation results of Stokes vectors are in good agreement with the measurement results for these two materials, and the introduction of various improvements to the model can effectively improve the accuracy of the model, which provides a tool for studying the performance parameters of a laser three-dimensional imaging system based on polarization modulation.

In this paper, a modified high-efficiency Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with a novel Supervised Contrastive Learning (SCL) approach is introduced to estimate direction-of-arrival (DOA) of multiple targets in low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regimes with uniform linear arrays (ULA). The model is trained using an on-grid setting, and thus the problem is modeled as a multi-label classification task. Simulation results demonstrate the robustness of the proposed approach in scenarios with low SNR and a small number of snapshots. Notably, the method exhibits strong capability in detecting the number of sources while estimating their DOAs. Furthermore, compared to traditional CNN methods, our refined efficient CNN significantly reduces the number of parameters by a factor of sixteen while still achieving comparable results. The effectiveness of the proposed method is analyzed through the visualization of latent space and through the advanced theory of feature learning.

Abstract Scale dependence of surface roughness of natural rock joints has long been an outstanding issue in rock mechanics. Controversial results were reported by various studies; however, the nature of scale dependency and the underlying mechanism for the conflicting observations remain unclear. Rock joints at different scales characterise two-order asperities, namely, waviness and unevenness; thus understanding how the individual roughness of waviness and unevenness vary as the joint size increases from the laboratory-scale to the large-scale is crucial for revealing the scale effect mystery. Here we digitise three natural granite joint surfaces with the same dimension of 1000 mm × 1000 mm through a high-resolution, three-dimensional scanner. Waviness and unevenness of each rock joint surface are quantitatively separated by selecting an appropriate sampling interval. The respective fractal dimensions of waviness and unevenness of joint surfaces sized from 100 mm × 100 mm to 1000 mm × 1000 mm are estimated through an improved roughness-length method. We find that the fractal dimensions of two-order roughness are scale-dependent but without generalised trends. The stationarity threshold beyond which the scale-dependency of roughness vanishes is absent for all the three joint samples, suggesting that the roughness of natural rock joints be assessed at the specific scale of the rock mass in-situ. We reveal that previous controversial results regarding scale effect are likely due to the composition of the roughness scaling of waviness and unevenness. Thus, accurate stability analysis of rock-engineering projects should consider separate contributions of multi-order asperities across scales to the strength and deformation of jointed rock masses.

Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) code is a type of forward error-correction code with excellent performance, and has been widely used in many modern communication standards. The second-generation satellite broadcasting standard (DVB-S2) and its extension (DVB-S2X) adopt a special Irregular Repeated Accumulate (IRA) LDPC code as inner coding scheme. However, due to the large block size, most of the architectures proposed so far use Random Access Memory (RAM) to store and update the encoding results, and the delay caused by address-controlled read and write operations and barrel shift during computation inevitably limits the upper bound of encoder throughput. In this paper, by extracting the periodicity of the parity-check matrix, we introduce a fast encoding algorithm that can efficiently process the multiplication of the information sequence and a large-dimensional sparse matrix, and propose an encoder architecture with low encoding delay and high throughput. The proposed architecture has been implemented and tested on a Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA, and the result show that the encoder architecture can achieve the highest throughput of 47.5 Gbps at a clock frequency of 280 MHz.

The interaction between the permanent magnets and the armature teeth of the PMSM generates cogging torque. It causes vibration and noise. Therefore, this paper establishes the analytical formula of the cogging torque of the motor with auxiliary slots on the surface of the rotor. It shows that reasonable slots can weaken the cogging torque. But it’s essential to determine whether the air-gap flux density harmonics will increase appreciably by slotting. A V-type IPMSM with 8-pole, 48-slot is modeled to analyze the cogging torque. Two new rotor slot shapes—inwardly biased slots and outwardly biased slots—are proposed and researched to reduce the cogging torque of the V-type IPMSM. And they are compared with the traditional symmetrical auxiliary slots. Research shows that the inwardly biased slots and the symmetric auxiliary slots can obtain a better effect on the cogging torque than the outwardly biased slots. By the symmetrical auxiliary slots, the cogging torque is weakened by 75.88%, but the torque ripple increases from 22.36% to 29.60%. By the inwardly biased slots, the cogging torque is weakened by 75.64%, and the torque ripple drops from 22.36% to 12.95%. The inwardly biased slots could successfully suppress the torque ripple.

It is well known that designing mode-dependent event-triggered control (MDETC) brings challenging difficulties to theoretical analysis, especially for two-dimensional (2-D) switched systems. Therefore, for 2-D switched Fornasini–Marchesini local state-space (FMLSS) systems, this paper designs a MDETC to investigate global exponential stabilization almost surely (GES a.s.). A MDETC based on dynamic output quantization control scheme is designed, which not only has a wide range of practicability, but also greatly saves network bandwidth resources. By constructing mode-dependent Lyapunov functions that include two time directions, some novel sufficient conditions are provided such that the switched FMLSS system achieves GES a.s. Unlike most previous results, our results do not require each mode to be stable, not even after adding control. Finally, numerical experiments are provided to verify the validity of our main theoretical results.

Background & Aims: Among individuals with Child-Pugh B cirrhosis and acute variceal bleeding (AVB), the Baveno VII workshop recommended pre-emptive TIPS in those with a Child-Pugh score of 8-9 and active bleeding at initial endoscopy (Child B8-9 + AB criteria). Nevertheless, whether this criterion is superior to the CLIF-Consortium acute decompensation score (CLIF-C ADs) remains unclear. Methods: Data on 1,021 consecutive individuals with Child-Pugh B cirrhosis and AVB from 13 university hospitals in China who were treated with pre-emptive TIPS (n = 297) or drug plus endoscopic treatment (n = 724) between 2010 to 2019 were retrospectively analysed. A competing risk regression model was used to compare the outcomes between the two groups after adjusting for confounders. The concordance-statistic for benefit (c-for-benefit) was used to evaluate a models’ ability to predict treatment benefit (risk difference between treatment groups). Results: Pre-emptive TIPS was associated with reduced mortality compared to drug plus endoscopic treatment (adjusted hazard ratio 0.62, 95% CI 0.44 to 0.88). A higher baseline CLIF-C AD score was associated with greater survival benefit (i.e., larger absolute mortality risk reduction). After adjusting for confounders, a survival benefit was observed in individuals with CLIF-C ADs ≥48 or Child-Pugh B8-9 with active bleeding, but not in those with CILF-C ADs

Elucidating the determining factors for wheat quality is an essential but complex task, influenced by wheat cultivars, environmental conditions, and management decisions. This study analyzed 285 winter wheat varieties, 13 wheat quality traits, and 9 influencing factors under a genotype, environment, and crop management framework by a geographical detector model in China’s main winter wheat-producing area. Our results revealed the attribution of wheat quality in the genotype × environment × crop management (G × E × M) interaction framework. The factors influencing wheat quality in China were ranked as follows: wheat cultivar > precipitation > Tmax > irrigation > soil type > Tmin > fertiliser > sunshine duration > landform. The wheat cultivar was the dominant factor affecting wheat quality, which explained 38.57%, 38.78%, and 28.13% of the variation in gluten index, stabilization time, and sedimentation index, respectively. In addition, the sensitivity of the wheat quality traits to the G × E × M interaction framework was detected. The wheat quality trait sensitivity ranked from the highest to the lowest followed the order gluten index > sedimentation index > hardness index > stabilisation time > seed moisture > crude protein > formation time > wet gluten > water absorption > landing value > flour output ratio > ash > capacity. Gluten and sedimentation were highly sensitive traits for wheat quality under the G × E × M interaction framework, with sensitivity index values of 66.94% and 58.11% in the G × E × M framework, respectively. Furthermore, we proposed an integrated improvement strategy for an end-use wheat quality trait based on the sensitivity of wheat quality traits in the G × E × M framework. The gluten index, crude protein, wet gluten, and hardness index should be prioritized according to wheat’s commercial value and sensitivity index. However, other quality traits with higher commercial importance, such as flour output ratio, capacity, and landing value, should be put behind the improvement list. Our result identified the critical factors for most wheat quality traits in the G × E × M framework. It extended the comprehensive strategy for wheat quality improvement.

The trend of global Sea Surface Temperature (SST) has attracted widespread attention in several ocean-related fields such as global warming, marine environmental protection and marine biodiversity. Sea surface temperature is influenced by climate change; with the accumulation of data from ocean remote sensing observations year by year, many scholars have started to use deep learning methods for SST prediction. In this paper, we use a dynamic region partitioning approach to process ocean big data and design a framework applied to a global SST short-term prediction system. On the architecture of a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network, two deep learning multi-region SST prediction models are proposed, which extract temporal and spatial information of SST by encoding, using feature transformation and decoding to predict future multi-step states. The models are tested using OISST data and the model performance is evaluated by different metrics. The proposed MR-EDLSTM model and MR-EDConvLSTM model obtained the best results for short-term prediction, with RMSE ranging from 0.2712 °C to 0.6487 °C and prediction accuracies ranging from 97.60% to 98.81% for ten consecutive days of prediction. The results show that the proposed MR-EDLSTM model has better prediction performance in coastal areas, while the MR-EDConvLSTM model performs better in predicting the sea area near the equator. In addition, the proposed deep learning model has a smaller RMSE compared to the forecasting system based on the ocean model, indicating that the deep learning method has certain advantages in predicting global SST.

In this paper, a range-gated LIDAR system utilizing an LN crystal as the electro-optical switch and a SCMOS (scientific complementary metal oxide semiconductor) imaging device is designed. To achieve range-gated operations, we utilize two polarizers and an LN (LiNbO3) crystal to form an electro-optical switch. The optical switch is realized by applying a pulse voltage at both ends of the crystal due to the crystal’s conoscopic interference effect and electro-optical effect. The advantage of this system is that low-bandwidth detectors, such as a CMOS and a CCD (charge-coupled device), can be used to replace conventional high-bandwidth detectors, such as an ICCD (intensified charge-coupled device), and it displays better imaging performance under specific conditions at the same time. However, after using an electro-optical crystal as an optical switch, a new inhomogeneity error will be introduced due to the conoscopic interference effect of the electro-optical crystal, resulting in a range error for the LIDAR system. To reduce the influence of inhomogeneity error on the system, this paper analyzes the sources of inhomogeneity error caused by the electro-optical crystal and calculates the crystal’s inhomogeneity mathematical expression. A compensation method is proposed based on the above inhomogeneity mathematical expression. An experimental LIDAR system is constructed in this paper to verify the validity of the compensation method. The experimental results of the range-gated LIDAR system show that in a specific field of view (2.6 mrad), the LIDAR system has good imaging performance; its ranging standard deviation is 3.86 cm and further decreases to 2.86 cm after compensation, which verifies the accuracy of the compensation method.

Chronic type 2 (T2) inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract are characterized by mucus overproduction and disordered mucociliary function, which are largely attributed to the effects of IL-13 on common epithelial cell types (mucus secretory and ciliated cells). The role of rare cells in airway T2 inflammation is less clear, though tuft cells have been shown to be critical in the initiation of T2 immunity in the intestine. Using bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing of airway epithelium and mouse modeling, we found that IL-13 expanded and programmed airway tuft cells toward eicosanoid metabolism and that tuft cell deficiency led to a reduction in airway prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) concentration. Allergic airway epithelia bore a signature of PGE2 activation, and PGE2 activation led to cystic fibrosis transmembrane receptor–dependent ion and fluid secretion and accelerated mucociliary transport. These data reveal a role for tuft cells in regulating epithelial mucociliary function in the allergic airway.

Neonatal inflammation can increase the risk of anxiety disorder in adulthood. The balance between glutamatergic excitatory and GABAergic inhibitory transmissions in the basolateral amygdala (BLA) plays a vital role in controlling anxiety state. Based on the reports that early-life inflammation had adverse effects on GABAergic system, the aim of this study was to investigate whether and how neonatal inflammation affects excitatory-inhibitory circuits in the BLA resulting in anxiety disorder. Neonatal mice received a daily subcutaneous injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 50 μg/kg) or saline on postnatal days 3–5. LPS-treated mice developed anxiety behaviors accompanied by the hyperactivity of adrenal axis in adulthood. Electrophysiological study revealed the increase of postsynaptic neuronal excitability in the cortical-BLA excitatory synapses of LPS mice which could be recovered by bath-application of GABAAR agonist suggesting the impairment of GABAergic system in LPS mice. Compared with controls, GABAARα2 subunit expression and density of GABA-evoked current in BLA principal neurons were reduced in LPS mice. Additionally, neonatal LPS treatment resulted in the down-regulation of transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1) expression and PKC signaling pathway in the adult BLA. The local TGF-β1 overexpression in the BLA improved GABAARα2 expression via up-regulating the activity of PKC signaling, which corrected GABAAR-mediated inhibition leading to the abolishment of anxiety-like change in adrenal axis regulation and behaviors in LPS mice. These data suggest the persistent TGF-β1deficit induces the down-regulation of GABAARα2 expression and subsequent disruption of the excitation-inhibition balance in the BLA circuits, which is the important mechanisms of neonatal inflammation-induced anxiety disorder.

Abstract. The high-dose glucocorticosteroid (GC) treatment is the first choice for dermatomyositis complicated with interstitial lung disease (DM-ILD) but patients are resistant to the high-dose GC monotherapy. Besides, the high dose of GC, the secondary immunosuppressive agent(s) is necessary but there is controversy for the selection of immunosuppressive agent(s). The objectives of the study were to analyze the efficacy of different therapeutic options for DM-ILD to identify the optimal therapy. A total of 60 patients had received intravenous 1.0–2.0 mg/ kg/day prednisolone for DM-ILD. In severe conditions, patients had received oral 1 to 3 mg/day tacrolimus (TAC), 500 mg/ m2/month cyclophosphamide (CY), and/or 1 g/ day methylprednisolone pulse (TI cohort, n = 24). In severe conditions, patients had received 1 g/day methylprednisolone pulse and 2–3 mg/ kg/day cyclosporine A (CsA) and/or 500 mg/ m2/month CY (existing historical treatment; CT cohort, n = 36). Patients of the TI cohort did not receive CsA. Patients in the CT cohort were received CY in significantly fewer numbers than those of the TI cohort during treatment (P = .0112). A total of 11 (46%) patients from the TI cohort and 14 (39%) patients from the CT cohort were developed relapsed. At the end of the 30-months, higher numbers of patients of the TI cohort had an event(s) free survival than those of the CT cohort (7 (29%) vs 2 (6%), P = .0229). Also, higher numbers of patients of the TI cohort had survived irrespective of an event(s) than those of the CT cohort (21 (87%) vs 22 (61%), P = .0399). Patients of the TI cohort had developed herpes zoster (2 (8%)) and cytomegalovirus (4 (17%)) infections. Patients of the CT cohort developed renal dysfunction (10 (28%)). Hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, and fracture (GC-related toxicities) were also reported in both cohorts and these toxicities were fever in the TI cohort. The addition of TAC to high doses GC with CY is an ideal treatment for severe conditions of DM-ILD (Level of Evidence: III; Technical Efficacy Stage: 4).

A rigid poly(vinyl chloride) foam with a cross-linked network structure was prepared by adding 3-glycidoxypropyltriethoxysilane (KH-561) into the universal formulation. The resulting foam had excellent heat resistance because of the increasing degree of cross-linking and number of Si–O bonds with a high heat resistance. The as-prepared foam was verified using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS) and foam residue (gel) analysis, which demonstrated that KH-561 was successfully grafted and cross-linked on the PVC chains. Finally, the effects of different KH-561 and NaHSO3 additions on the mechanical properties and heat resistance of the foams were studied. The results showed that the mechanical properties of the rigid cross-linked PVC foam were raised after adding a certain amount of KH-561 and NaHSO3. The residue (gel), decomposition temperature, and chemical stability of the foam significantly improved compared to the universal rigid cross-linked PVC foam (Tg = 72.2 °C). The Tg of the foam could reach 78.1 °C without any mechanical degradation. The results have important engineering application value regarding the preparation of lightweight, high-strength, heat-resistant, and rigid cross-linked PVC foam materials.

With the rapid development of high-performance computing and parallel computing technology, by virtue of its cost-effectiveness, strong scalability, and easy programming, the multiprocessor system has gradually become the mainstream computing platform. Meanwhile, a growing number of researchers pay attention to the performance of multiprocessor systems, especially the task scheduling problem, which has an important impact on the system performance. Most of the current research works on task scheduling algorithms are based on the homogeneous computing environment. On the contrary, research works focusing on more complex performance asymmetric multiprocessor environments still remain rare. In this paper, we compare the effects of three earliest deadline first algorithms under different processor allocation strategies on performance asymmetric multiprocessors. We propose an efficient schedulability analysis for an allocation strategy that assigns high-priority tasks to the slowest idle processor. Experimental results show that the strategy of allocating processors with optimum speeds for high-priority tasks can schedule more task sets than the other two allocation strategies. The strategy that prioritizes the slowest processors for high-priority tasks has the smallest number of task migrations, and the strategy has the highest effective processor utilization.

Drought is more frequent and intensified due to global warming. Changed conditions in Beijing‐Tianjin–Hebei region which is drier and warmer than before, make it necessary to investigate various optimized irrigation schemes in the winter wheat production. In this study, the DSSAT–CERES‐Wheat model verified by field experimental data was applied to simulate the yield of winter wheat in Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region from 2010 to 2069a under RCP8.5 climate scenario. The irrigation schemes were set up by adjusting the irrigation amount and irrigation structure to evaluate their adaptive capacity to climate change. The results showed that the regional average yield reduction rates of potential drought were 81.98% and 78.86% in 2010–2039a and 2040–2069a, which were higher in the north than that in the south. The yield reduction rate of potential drought increased with the decrease of irrigation amount, and the adaptive capacity declined with the decrease of irrigation amount, under the same irrigation structure. When 3‐9‐6 irrigation structure was applied, the regional averages of adaptive capacity to potential drought were 28.30%, 26.23%, and 22.22% in 2010–2039a, 29.00%, 26.67%, and 21.76% in 2040–2069a. The shortage of water resources caused by climate change and the possibility of drought limit the potential yield of winter wheat as high as 80% in this region. Priority shall be given to meeting the water demand in jointing stage and filling stage. Irrigation scheme of 3‐9‐6 structure with 180 mm irrigation amount shall be recommended and its adaptive capacity to climate change is the strongest in the near term and the medium‐term. Even if a further 20% reduction in irrigation is applied (144 mm), the dual goals of reducing yield loss and saving 8.28 × 108 t irrigation water per winter wheat season can be achieved. Abstract Background Kashin-Beck disease (KBD) is one of the major endemic diseases in China, which severely impacts the physical health and life quality of people. A better understanding of the spatial distribution of the health loss from KBD and its influencing factors will help to identify areas and populations at high risk so as to plan for targeted interventions. Methods The data of patients with KBD at village-level were collected to estimate and analyze the spatial pattern of health loss from KBD in Bin County, Shaanxi Province. The years lived with disability (YLDs) index was applied as a measure of health loss from KBD. Spatial autocorrelation methodologies, including Global Moran’s I and Local Moran’s I, were used to describe and map spatial clusters of the health loss. In addition, basic individual information and environmental samples were collected to explore natural and social determinants of the health loss from KBD. Results The estimation of YLDs showed that patients with KBD of grade II and patients over 50 years old contributed most to the health loss of KBD in Bin County. No significant difference was observed between two genders. The spatial patterns of YLDs and YLD rate of KBD were clustered significantly at both global and local scales. Villages in the southwestern and eastern regions revealed higher health loss, while those in the northern regions exhibited lower health loss. This clustering was found to be significantly related to organically bound Se in soil and poverty rate of KBD patients. Conclusions Our results suggest that future treatment and prevention of KBD should focus on endemic areas with high organically bound Se in soil and poor economic conditions. The findings can also provide important information for further exploration of the etiology of KBD.

Smart drug delivery nano-systems show significant changes in their physical or chemical properties in response to slight change in environmental physical and/or chemical signals, and further releasing drugs adjusted to the progression of the disease at the right target and rate intelligently. Two-dimensional materials possess dramatic status extend all over various scientific and technological disciplines by reason of their exceptional unique properties in application of smart drug delivery nano-systems. In this review, we summarized current progress to highlight various kinds of two-dimensional materials drug carriers which are widely explored in smart drug delivery systems as well as classification of stimuli responsive two-dimensional materials and the advantages and disadvantages of their applications. Consequently, we anticipate that this review might inspire the development of new two-dimensional materials with smart drug delivery systems, and deepen researchers’ understanding of smart nano-carries based on two-dimensional materials.

Abstract With efficiency surpassing 25%, perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have received much attention because of their excellent potential in photovoltaic field. However, there are some challenging issues still exist which need to be addressed. One issue is that the surface/interface and grain boundaries related defects and traps could work as charge recombination centers during the device operation, compromising the charge transfer as well as the device performance. Another issue is the leakage of toxic Pb, which may cause undesired contamination to water or soil and make devices not appropriate to work outdoors. Herein, the dithiol molecule was introduced to passivate surface defects and traps as well as reduce the Pb leakage. The unsaturated Pb2+ usually acting as recombination centers could coordinate with thiol group to reduce the recombination. Meanwhile, the beneficial band bend was observed, which facilitates the interface charge transfer. Crucially, we confirmed dithiol molecule could help reduce the Pb leakage. Retarded dissolution of PbI2 into water was observed for perovskite films after dithiol treatment, which eventually contributed less Pb leakage. Overall, this study proposes a universal strategy for defects passivation and reduced lead leakage, which is promising for environmental stable optoelectronic applications.
