Abstract To improve the heat extraction efficiency from the wellbore fluids to the stratum in the geothermal well, thermal insulation cement, which contains of waste glass powder as a heat-insulating material, is proposed to apply in geothermal well’s middle and upper sections in the paper. Effect of such glass powers on mechanic and thermal property of thermal insulation cement was then investigated. Various tests were carried out to measure compressive strength, thermal conductivity, microstructure porosity etc. parameters of the thermal insulation cement. Results showed that the waste glass powder would enhance its the compressive strength and improve its the thermal insulation performance. Correlation study between contents of the added waste glass powder in geothermal cements and its mechanic and thermal property was conducted. It was found that thermal insulation cement exhibited its optimum performance when the added content of glass powers was 20% in weight. Analysis of the microstructure porosity with SEM found that the pores in thermal insulation cement with added waste glass powders were mostly closed, tiny and even, and therefore contributed to the compressive strength of the thermal insulation cement; such pores would be also beneficial to improving its thermal insulation performance.

Abstract Background In assessing the clinical utility and safety of 3.0 T intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) combined with multimodality functional MRI (fMRI) guidance in the resection of functional area gliomas, we conducted a study. Method Among 120 patients with newly diagnosed functional area gliomas who underwent surgical treatment, 60 were included in each group: the integrated group with iMRI and fMRI and the conventional navigation group. Between-group comparisons were made for the extent of resection (EOR), preoperative and postoperative activities of daily living based on the Karnofsky performance status, surgery duration, and postoperative intracranial infection rate. Results Compared to the conventional navigation group, the integrated navigation group with iMRI and fMRI exhibited significant improvements in tumor resection (complete resection rate: 85.0% vs. 60.0%, P = 0.006) and postoperative life self-care ability scores (Karnofsky score) (median ± interquartile range: 90 ± 25 vs. 80 ± 30, P = 0.013). Abstract Background Repairation of bone defects remains a major clinical problem. Constructing bone tissue engineering containing growth factors, stem cells, and material scaffolds to repair bone defects has recently become a hot research topic. Nerve growth factor (NGF) can promote osteogenesis of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), but the low survival rate of the BMSCs during transplantation remains an unresolved issue. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic effect of BMSCs overexpression of NGF on bone defect by inhibiting pyroptosis. Methods The relationship between the low survival rate and pyroptosis of BMSCs overexpressing NGF in localized inflammation of fractures was explored by detecting pyroptosis protein levels. Then, the NGF+/BMSCs-NSA-Sca bone tissue engineering was constructed by seeding BMSCs overexpressing NGF on the allograft bone scaffold and adding the pyroptosis inhibitor necrosulfonamide(NSA). The femoral condylar defect model in the Sprague–Dawley (SD) rat was studied by micro-CT, histological, WB and PCR analyses in vitro and in vivo to evaluate the regenerative effect of bone repair. Results The pyroptosis that occurs in BMSCs overexpressing NGF is associated with the nerve growth factor receptor (P75NTR) during osteogenic differentiation. Furthermore, NSA can block pyroptosis in BMSCs overexpression NGF. Notably, the analyses using the critical-size femoral condylar defect model indicated that the NGF+/BMSCs-NSA-Sca group inhibited pyroptosis significantly and had higher osteogenesis in defects. Conclusion NGF+/BMSCs-NSA had strong osteogenic properties in repairing bone defects. Moreover, NGF+/BMSCs-NSA-Sca mixture developed in this study opens new horizons for developing novel tissue engineering constructs.

Abstract We investigate the entanglement harvesting phenomenon for static detectors that locally interact with massless scalar fields in the cosmic string spacetime, which, though locally flat, features a conical structure defined by a deficit angle. Specifically, we analyze three detector alignments relative to the string: parallel and orthogonal alignments with detectors on the same side of the string, and an orthogonal alignment with detectors on opposite sides of the string. For the alignments on the same side of the string, we observe that the cosmic string’s presence can either aid or hinder entanglement harvesting, affecting both the extent of entanglement harvested and the achievable range of interdetector separation. This effect depends on the distance between the detectors and the string and differs markedly from scenarios in a locally flat spacetime with a reflecting boundary, where the boundary invariably extends the harvesting-achievable range. Conversely, for the alignment with detectors on opposite sides of the string, we find that detectors consistently harvest more entanglement than those in a flat spacetime devoid of a cosmic string. This starkly contrasts the behavior observed with detectors on the same side. Interestingly, the presence of a cosmic string expands the harvesting-achievable range for detectors in orthogonal alignment only when near the string, whereas it invariably reduces the achievable range for detectors in parallel alignment.

Abstract Background Hypercoagulability emerges as a central pathological feature and clinical complication in nephrotic syndrome. Increased platelet activation and aggregability are closely related to hypercoagulability in nephrotic syndrome. Monocyte-platelet aggregates (MPAs) have been proposed to represent a robust biomarker of platelet activation. The aim of this study was to investigate levels of the circulating MPAs and MPAs with the different monocyte subsets to evaluate the association of MPAs with hypercoagulability in nephrotic syndrome. Methods Thirty-two patients with nephrotic syndrome were enrolled. In addition, thirty-two healthy age and sex matched adult volunteers served as healthy controls. MPAs were identified by CD14 monocytes positive for CD41a platelets. The classical (CD14 + + CD16-, CM), the intermediate (CD14 + + CD16+, IM) and the non-classical (CD14 + CD16++, NCM) monocytes, as well as subset specific MPAs, were measured by flow cytometry. Abstract Background Childhood obesity is increasingly recognized as a major public health challenge worldwide, and excessive sedentary screen time is emerging as a key risk factor. This study aimed to assess the recreational screen sedentary time of Chinese primary school-aged children and investigate the relationship between screen-related family factors and the outcome variable. Methods Our study used data from a cross-sectional survey collected from fifth-grade students and their parents in Beijing, China, from April to May 2018 (n = 2,373). The questions included basic demographic information, family socioeconomic status, students’ and parents’ sedentary and exercising habits, within-family communicational factors, and health belief patterns. The recreational screen sedentary time of the children was compared across demographic groups. The study employed multivariate linear regression models to examine associations between children’s screen time and various family factors, as well as the moderating effect of overall family communication. Results Our findings revealed an average daily recreational screen sedentary time of 2.4 h among participants. Screen time significantly varied across demographic categories, including children’s sex, age, residence, parents’ education, household income, family size, and primary family member. Abstract Background In China, real‐world data on surgical challenges and postoperative complications after neoadjuvant immunotherapy of lung cancer are limited. Methods Patients were retrospectively enrolled from January 2018 to January 2023, and their clinical and pathological characters were subsequently analyzed. Surgical difficulty was categorized into a binary classification according to surgical duration: challenging or routine. Postoperative complications were graded using Clavien–Dindo grades. Logistic regression was used to identify risk factors affecting the duration of surgery and postoperative complications greater than Clavien–Dindo grade 2. Results In total, 261 patients were included. Of these, stage III patients accounted for 62.5% (163/261) at initial diagnosis, with 25.3% (66/261) at stage IIIB. Central‐type non‐small‐cell lung cancer accounted for 61.7% (161/261). One hundred and forty patients underwent video‐assisted thoracoscopic surgery and lobectomy accounted for 53.3% (139/261) of patients. Surgical time over average duration was defined as challenging surgeries, accounting for 43.7%. The postoperative complications rate of 261 patients was only 22.2%. Smoking history (odds ratio [OR] = 9.96, 95% [CI] 1.15–86.01, p = 0.03), chemoimmunotherapy (OR = 2.89, 95% CI 1.22–6.86, p = 0.02), and conversion to open surgery (OR = 11.3, 95% CI 1.38–92.9, p = 0.02) were identified as independent risk factors for challenging surgeries, while pneumonectomy (OR = 0.36, 95% CI 0.15–0.86, p= 0.02) was a protective factor. Abstract Background To evaluate the technical success and patient safety of magnetic resonance-guided percutaneous microwave coagulation (MR-guided PMC) for breast malignancies. Methods From May 2018 to December 2019, 26 patients with breast tumors measuring 2 cm or less were recruited to participate in a prospective, single-institution clinical study. The primary endpoint of this study was the evaluation of treatment efficacy for each patient. Histochemical staining with α-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide and reduced (NADH)-diaphorase was used to determine cell viability following and efficacy of PMC. The complications and self-reported sensations from all patients during and after ablation were also assessed. The technical success of the PMC procedure was defined when the area of the NADH-diaphorase negative region fully covered the hematoxylin–eosin (H&E) staining region in the tumor. Results All patients had a complete response to ablation with no residual carcinoma on histopathological specimen. The mean energy, ablation duration, and procedure duration per tumor were 36.0 ± 4.2 kJ, 252.9 ± 30.9 S, and 104.2 ± 13.5 min, respectively. During the ablation, 14 patients underwent prolonged ablation time, and 1 patient required adjusting of the antenna position. Eleven patients had feelings of subtle heat or swelling, and 3 patients experienced slight pain. After ablation, one patient took two painkillers because of moderate pain, and no patients had postoperative oozing or other complications after PMC. Induration around the ablation area appeared in 16 patients. Conclusion MR-guided PMC of small breast tumors is feasible and could be applied in clinical practice in the future. Abstract Background Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is a common complication after general anaesthesia and is associated with morbidity and prolonged length of stay. Growing evidence suggest that opioid-free general anaesthesia (OFA) may reduce PONV in various surgical settings. We aim to evaluate the efficacy of OFA on the incidence of PONV compared with opioid-based anaesthesia among adults undergoing thoracoscopic surgery. Methods This is a prospective, single-centre, randomised controlled trial comparing OFA and opioid-based anaesthesia for thoracoscopic surgery. A total of 168 adults will be randomised with a 1:1 ratio to receive either opioid-free anaesthesia or opioid-based anaesthesia. The primary outcome will be the incidence of PONV within 24 h after operation. The secondary outcomes will include the severity of PONV, quality of recovery, pain at rest, 6-min walking test, and health-related quality of life after operation. Discussion The benefit-risk of OFA for patients after operation is contradictory in previous studies, so further study is required. This trial will focus on the effect of OFA on the incidence of PONV in patients undergoing thoracoscopic surgery. This trial adopts uniformed PONV and perioperative pain management, standardised randomised and blind, clear-cut inclusion and exclusion criteria, and standardised scales to assess the severity of PONV after surgery, the quality of postoperative recovery, and the health status at 6 months. The findings of this study will help to provide references to promote early recovery of patients after lung surgery. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov NCT05411159. Registered on 9 June 2022.

BackgroundThe preoperative inflammatory condition significantly influences the prognosis of malignancies. We aimed to investigate the potential significance of preoperative inflammatory biomarkers in forecasting the long-term results of lung carcinoma after microwave ablation (MWA).MethodThis study included patients who received MWA treatment for lung carcinoma from Jan. 2012 to Dec. 2020. We collected demographic, clinical, laboratory, and outcome information. To assess the predictive capacity of inflammatory biomarkers, we utilized the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC) and assessed the predictive potential of inflammatory biomarkers in forecasting outcomes through both univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard analyses.ResultsA total of 354 individuals underwent MWA treatment, of which 265 cases were included in this study, whose average age was 69.1 ± 9.7 years. The AUC values for the Systemic Inflammatory Response Index (SIRI) to overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were 0.796 and 0.716, respectively. Abstract Background Calcifying pseudoneoplasm of the neuraxis (CAPNON) is indeed a rare central nervous system lesion that can occur in central nervous system (CNS). Due to its infrequency and limited literature reports, it is challenging to diagnose and manage CAPNON. Case presentation In this intriguing study, we embarked on a quest to uncover the story of a 16-year-old girl who experienced bothersome headaches. Through advanced imaging techniques like computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), we glimpsed a delicate calcified growth within the lateral ventricles’ posterior horn. Motivated by our unwavering commitment to solving mysteries, we embarked on a surgical journey that not only freed the young patient from her ailment but also shed light on the true nature of her puzzling adversary—a remarkable CAPNON. Conclusions For patients with CAPNON who have multiple or non-respectable lesions, the primary goal is to alleviate symptoms. After alleviating the symptoms with partial resection, close monitoring of any residual lesions is essential. If there is no evidence for disease progression, a strategy of continued close observation is appropriate.

The existing network representation learning algorithms mainly model the relationship between network nodes based on the structural features of the network, or use text features, hierarchical features and other external attributes to realize the network joint representation learning. Capturing global features of the network allows the obtained node vectors to retain more comprehensive feature information during training, thereby enhancing the quality of embeddings. In order to preserve the global structural features of the network in the training results, we employed a multi-channel learning approach to perform high-order feature modeling on the network. We proposed a novel algorithm for multi-channel high-order network representation learning, referred to as the Multi-Channel High-Order Network Representation (MHNR) algorithm. This algorithm initially constructs high-order network features from the original network structure, thereby transforming the single-channel network representation learning process into a multi-channel high-order network representation learning process. Then, for each single-channel network representation learning process, the novel graph assimilation mechanism is introduced in the algorithm, so as to realize the high-order network structure modeling mechanism in the single-channel network representation learning. Finally, the algorithm integrates the multi-channel and single-channel mechanism of high-order network structure joint modeling, realizing the efficient use of network structure features and sufficient modeling. Experimental results show that the node classification performance of the proposed MHNR algorithm reaches a good order on Citeseer, Cora, and DBLP data, and its node classification performance is better than that of the comparison algorithm used in this paper. In addition, when the vector length is optimized, the average classification accuracy of nodes of the proposed algorithm is up to 12.24% higher than that of the DeepWalk algorithm. Therefore, the node classification performance of the proposed algorithm can reach the current optimal order only based on the structural features of the network under the condition of no external feature supplementary modeling.

Abstract Skeletal muscle disease severity can often progress asymmetrically across muscle groups and heterogeneously within tissues. An example is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) in which lack of dystrophin results in devastating skeletal muscle wasting in some muscles whereas others are spared or undergo hypertrophy. An efficient, non-invasive approach to identify sites of asymmetry and degenerative lesions could enable better patient monitoring and therapeutic targeting of disease. In this study, we utilized a versatile intravenously injectable mesoporous silica nanoparticle (MSNP) based nanocarrier system to explore mechanisms of biodistribution in skeletal muscle of mdx mouse models of DMD including wildtype, dystrophic, and severely dystrophic mice. Moreover, MSNPs could be imaged in live mice and whole muscle tissues enabling investigation of how biodistribution is altered by different types of muscle pathology such as inflammation or fibrosis. We found MSNPs were tenfold more likely to aggregate within select mdx muscles relative to wild type, such as gastrocnemius and quadriceps. This was accompanied by decreased biodistribution in off-target organs. We found the greatest factor affecting preferential delivery was the regenerative state of the dystrophic skeletal muscle with the highest MSNP abundance coinciding with the regions showing the highest level of embryonic myosin staining and intramuscular macrophage uptake. To demonstrate, muscle regeneration regulated MSNP distribution, we experimentally induced regeneration using barium chloride which resulted in a threefold increase of intravenously injected MSNPs to sites of regeneration 7 days after injury. These discoveries provide the first evidence that nanoparticles have selective biodistribution to skeletal muscle in DMD to areas of active regeneration and that nanoparticles could enable diagnostic and selective drug delivery in DMD skeletal muscle.

Abstract Background Previous research examined the associations between social support and physical activity. However, little is known about the associations between social support change and trajectories of physical activity during the transition from late adolescence to young adulthood. Methods The current study sought to examine these issues among 434 Chinese college students (M age = 19.15, SD age = 0.61; 46.1% male), who completed questionnaires regarding demographics, physical activity, family support change, and peer support change across three waves (the data from one of the waves was retrospective). Results After controlling for covariates, the findings revealed that: (a) there was an increase in overall physical activity and duration, but a decrease in frequency during the transition from late adolescence (the second year of high school) to young adulthood (the third year of college); (b) family support change did not contribute to trajectories of physical activity, while peer support change significantly predicted the trajectory of overall physical activity, duration, and frequency. Conclusions The findings extend the literature on physical activity from a developmental perspective by revealing different trends among physical activity duration and frequency, and unpacking different effects of family and peer support change on trajectories of physical activity.

Direct air capture (DAC) is one of the most potential technologies to mitigate CO2 emission. Adsorption technology is recognized as a promising CO2 capture method in view of its desirable characteristics including reusability of adsorbents and low capital investment. To further improve thermal performance, evaporation/condensation heat of vapor compression refrigeration (VCR) cycle in air condition system of buildings is adopted for adsorption/desorption process of DAC. Thermal performance of a 4-step temperature swing adsorption process (TSA) is analyzed at various adsorption/desorption temperatures by using different adsorbents. Analysis on Coefficient of Performance (COP) of VCR cycle is also conducted in search for a balance between adsorbent and refrigerant. Taking both real working capacity and COP into consideration, Mg-MOF-74&R134a is the best choice for more amounts of CO2. Real working capacity of Mg-MOF-74 is up to 0.38 mol•kg−1 at 70 °C, which is twice as much as that of zeolite 13X. While zeolite 13X&R134a shows the best performance of two cycles in view of exergy efficiency and COP, which could reach 81.9% and 7.21, respectively, at 35 °C. These matches will provide some guidelines for the practical application of the combination of DAC with heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC).

Abstract Lung cancer screening using computed tomography (CT) has increased the detection rate of small pulmonary nodules and early-stage lung adenocarcinoma. It would be clinically meaningful to accurate assessment of the nodule histology by CT scans with advanced deep learning algorithms. However, recent studies mainly focus on predicting benign and malignant nodules, lacking of model for the risk stratification of invasive adenocarcinoma. We propose an ensemble multi-view 3D convolutional neural network (EMV-3D-CNN) model to study the risk stratification of lung adenocarcinoma. We include 1075 lung nodules (≤30 mm and ≥4 mm) with preoperative thin-section CT scans and definite pathology confirmed by surgery. Our model achieves a state-of-art performance of 91.3% and 92.9% AUC for diagnosis of benign/malignant and pre-invasive/invasive nodules, respectively. Importantly, our model outperforms senior doctors in risk stratification of invasive adenocarcinoma with 77.6% accuracy [i.e., Grades 1, 2, 3]). It provides detailed predictive histological information for the surgical management of pulmonary nodules. Finally, for user-friendly access, the proposed model is implemented as a web-based system ( https://seeyourlung.com.cn ).

Abstract Understanding tumor heterogeneity and immune infiltrates within the tumor-immune microenvironment (TIME) is essential for the innovation of immunotherapies. Here, combining single-cell transcriptomics and chromatin accessibility sequencing, we profile the intratumor heterogeneity of malignant cells and immune properties of the TIME in primary central nervous system diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (PCNS DLBCL) patients. We demonstrate diverse malignant programs related to tumor-promoting pathways, cell cycle and B-cell immune response. By integrating data from independent systemic DLBCL and follicular lymphoma cohorts, we reveal a prosurvival program with aberrantly elevated RNA splicing activity that is uniquely associated with PCNS DLBCL. Moreover, a plasmablast-like program that recurs across PCNS/activated B-cell DLBCL predicts a worse prognosis. In addition, clonally expanded CD8 T cells in PCNS DLBCL undergo a transition from a pre-exhaustion-like state to exhaustion, and exhibit higher exhaustion signature scores than systemic DLBCL. Thus, our study sheds light on potential reasons for the poor prognosis of PCNS DLBCL patients, which will facilitate the development of targeted therapy.

Abstract Introduction Beijing initiated the nation’s most comprehensive tobacco control program that adheres to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. This study aimed to identify a set of indicators for the scoping of an Health Impact Assessment (HIA) to assess this policy. Methods This study used a modified Delphi process. It proposed a tobacco control health impact framework based on the Driving forces- Pressure- State- Exposure- Effect- Action model and the Determinants of Health Theory. After a review of current surveillance system and literature, a working group of 13 experts with multidisciplinary background was established to formulate indicator evaluation criteria and conduct indicator scoring. Each indicator was scored by experts according to four evaluation criteria chosen. Indicators that obtained a total score above 80% and with standard error less than 5 were selected as the final set of indicators. Kendall’s coefficient of concordance was calculated. Results Twenty-three out of 36 indicators were selected. Smoking prevalence, mortality rate, hospital admission rate, tobacco consumption and hospital admission fees of smoking related diseases achieved more than 90% of total scores and ranked as the top five. Kendall’s concordance coefficient was 0.218 for all indicators. For all model composition, Kendall’s concordance coefficients were statistically significant. Conclusion This study identified a set of twenty-three indicators for scoping of HIA of a comprehensive tobacco control policy in Beijing based on a tobacco control health impact conceptual framework. The set of indicators achieved high scores and statistically significant consistency and has great potential to promote the evaluation of tobacco control policy in a global city. Further study might use the set of indicators for HIA on tobacco control policy to analyze empirical data.

Steel slag and waste clay bricks are two prevalent solid waste materials generated during industrial production. The complex chemical compositions of these materials present challenges to their utilization in conventional alumina silicate ceramics manufacturing. A new type of ceramic tile, which utilizes steel slag and waste clay brick as raw materials, has been successfully developed in order to effectively utilize these solid wastes. The optimal composition of the ceramic material was determined through orthogonal experimentation, during which the effects of the sample molding pressure, the soaking time, and the sintering temperature on the ceramic properties were studied. The results show that the optimal ceramic tile formula was 45% steel slag, 35% waste clay bricks, and 25% talc. The optimal process parameters for this composition included a molding pressure of 25 MPa, a sintering temperature of 1190 °C, and a soaking time of 60 min. The prepared ceramic tile samples had compositions in which solid waste accounted for more than 76% of the total material. Additionally, they possessed a modulus of rupture of more than 73.2 MPa and a corresponding water absorption rate of less than 0.05%.

Abstract Background Influenza A viruses have undergone rapid evolution with virulent; however, complete and comprehensive data on gene evolution and amino acid variation of HA and NA in immunosuppressed patients was few. In this study, we analysed molecular epidemiology and evolution of influenza A viruses in immunosuppressed population, and immunocompetent population were used as controls. Methods Full sequences of HA and NA of A(H1N1)pdm09 and A(H3N2) were acquired through reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). HA and NA genes were sequenced using the Sanger method and phylogenetically analysed using ClustalW 2.10 and MEGA software version 11.0. Results During the 2018–2020 influenza seasons, 54 immunosuppressed and 46 immunocompetent inpatients screened positive for influenza A viruses by using the quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) were enrolled. 27 immunosuppressed and 23 immunocompetent nasal swab or bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples were randomly selected and sequenced using the Sanger method. A(H1N1)pdm09 were detected in 15 samples and the remaining 35 samples were A(H3N2) positive. By analyzing the HA and NA gene sequences of these virus strains, we found that all A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses shared high similarities to each other and the HA and NA genes of these viruses exclusively belonged to subclade 6B.1A.1. Some NA genes of A(H3N2) viruses were not in the same clade as those of A/Singapore/INFIMH-16-0019/2016 and A/Kansas/14/2017, which may have led to A(H3N2) being the dominant strain in the 2019–2020 influenza season. Both A(H1N1)pdm09 and A(H3N2) viruses showed similar evolutionary lineages patterns of HA and NA between immunosuppressed and immunocompetent patients. Compared with the vaccine strains, there were no statistically significant of HA and NA genes and amino acid sequences of influenza A viruses in immunosuppressed and immunocompetent patients. However, the oseltamivir resistance substitution of NA-H275Y and R292K have been observed in immunosuppressed patients. Conclusions A(H1N1)pdm09 and A(H3N2) viruses showed similar evolutionary lineages patterns of HA and NA between immunosuppressed and immunocompetent patients. Both immunocompetent and immunosuppressed patients have some key substitutions, which should be of note monitored, especially those with potential to affect the viral antigen.

Abstract Background To investigate the effect of continuous oral aspirin in perioperative period on bleeding in pneumonectomy. Methods A total of 170 patients who underwent pneumonectomy in our hospital from March 2021 to March 2022 were selected as the study objects. All patients took oral aspirin before surgery and did not take other antiplatelet agent or anticoagulants at the same time. The continuation group included 85 cases and continued to take aspirin 100 mg/day during the perioperative period, and the interruption group included 85 cases who stopped aspirin for 7 days before surgery and 3 days after surgery, without bridging therapy. The intraoperative blood loss, operation time, conversion to thoracotomy rate, postoperative bleeding rate, blood transfusion rate, thrombotic events, postoperative drainage volume, length of hospital stay, and total hospital cost of the two groups were compared. Results There were no statistically significant differences in intraoperative blood loss, operative time, rate of conversion to open, postoperative drainage, hospital stay, and cost between the two groups (p > 0.05), and there were no reoperations due to bleeding between the two groups. Conclusions Aspirin should be continued throughout the perioperative period in all high‐risk patients requiring pneumonectomy after balancing ischemic‐bleeding risks.

Abstract Background To evaluate multiple parameters in multiple b-value diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in characterizing breast lesions and predicting prognostic factors and molecular subtypes. Methods In total, 504 patients who underwent 3-T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with T1-weighted dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) sequences, T2-weighted sequences and multiple b-value (7 values, from 0 to 3000 s/mm2) DWI were recruited. The average values of 13 parameters in 6 models were calculated and recorded. The pathological diagnosis of breast lesions was based on the latest World Health Organization (WHO) classification. Results Twelve parameters exhibited statistical significance in differentiating benign and malignant lesions. alpha demonstrated the highest sensitivity (89.5%), while sigma demonstrated the highest specificity (77.7%). The stretched-exponential model (SEM) demonstrated the highest sensitivity (90.8%), while the biexponential model demonstrated the highest specificity (80.8%). The highest AUC (0.882, 95% CI, 0.852–0.912) was achieved when all 13 parameters were combined. Prognostic factors were correlated with different parameters, but the correlation was relatively weak. Among the 6 parameters with significant differences among molecular subtypes of breast cancer, the Luminal A group and Luminal B (HER2 negative) group had relatively low values, and the HER2-enriched group and TNBC group had relatively high values. Conclusions All 13 parameters, independent or combined, provide valuable information in distinguishing malignant from benign breast lesions. These new parameters have limited meaning for predicting prognostic factors and molecular subtypes of malignant breast tumors.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common malignant digestive tract tumor in colorectal regions. Considerable evidence now shows that the gut microbiota have essential roles in CRC occurrence and development. Most Gram-negative bacteria release outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) via outer membrane blistering, which contain specific cargoes which interact with host cells via intercellular communications, host immune regulation, and gut microbiota homeostasis. Studies have also shown that OMVs selectively cluster near tumor cells, thus cancer treatment strategies based on OMVs have attracted considerable research attention. However, little is known about the possible impact of gut microbiota OMVs in CRC pathophysiology. Therefore, in this review, we summarize the research progress on molecular composition and function of OMV, and review the microbial dysbiosis in CRC. We then focus on the potential role of gut microbiota OMVs in CRC. Finally, we examine the clinical potential of OMVs in CRC treatment, and their main advantages and challenges in tumor therapy.

ObjectiveTo analyze the effect of different types of disinfectants for perineum and urethral meatus cleaning in preventing catheter-associated asymptomatic bacteriuria and catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI).MethodsChinese and English databases were searched to collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of different disinfectants for perineum and urethral meatus cleaning to prevent CAUTI, and the positive rates of urine culture with different cleaning methods were contrasted by network meta-analysis.ResultsA total of 18 RCTs were included in this study to analyze the effect of 10 disinfectants in preventing CAUTI. The disinfectants were 0.1% chlorhexidine (CHG), 0.5% CHG, 2% CHG, 0.1% benzalkonium bromide (DBDAB), 0.05% iodophor, 0.5% iodophor, acidic oxidizing potential water (EOW), normal saline (NS), Shehuang lotion, and sterile water. Meta-analysis showed that the positive rates of urine culture in the 0.5% CHG cluster, EOW cluster, 0.5% iodophor cluster, and Shehuang lotion cluster were remarkably lower than that in the 0.1% DBDAB cluster (P < 0.05). The positive rate of urine culture in the 0.5% CHG cluster was remarkably lower than that in the 0.05% iodophor cluster (P < 0.05), whereas the positive rates of urine culture in the 0.5% CHG cluster, 0.5% iodophor cluster, Shehuang lotion cluster, and EOW were remarkably lower than that in the normal saline cluster (P < 0.05). The positive rate of urine culture in the 0.5% CHG cluster and EOW cluster were remarkably lower than those in the sterile water cluster (P < 0.05). The results of the area under the cumulative ranking probability plot (SUCRA) analysis showed that the probability ranking of the preventive effect of different disinfectants was as follows: 0.5% CHG > Shehuang lotion > EOW > 0.5% Iodophor > 2% CHG > 0.1% CHG > 0.05% Iodophor > Sterile Water > 0.1% DBDAB > Saline. Conclusion0.5% CHG, Shehuang lotion, EOW, and 0.5% iodophor can be used to clean the perineum and urethral meatus in patients with indwelling catheters.Systematic review registrationChinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR), identifier ChiCTR2100052260.

Epimedium longnanense, a new species of Epimedium (Berberidaceae) from Longnan Prefecture, Gansu Province, China, is here proposed and illustrated. E. longnanense has large flowers with petals possessing long spur and obvious basal lamina, and thus should be grouped into series Davidianae. The species closely resembles E. flavum of ser. Davidianae in morphology. However, it can be easily distinguished by its elongated rhizome (vs. compact), trifoliolate leaves (vs. five leaflets, sometimes trifoliolate), pale pink or purplish-red inner sepals with 6–8 × 2–3 mm (vs. pale sulphur-yellow, ca. 11 × 4 mm).

Abstract Introduction The number of patients with synchronous multiple primary lung cancer (sMPLC) has increased recently. However, diagnosing and selecting the appropriate therapeutic strategy for this type of disease is not simple. Case presentation This report presented a case of sMPLC with lymph node metastasis. With no smoking and cancer history, this patient had seven nodules in the right lung and underwent single-portal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). In addition, she received four cycles of chemotherapy after the operation. Whole exon sequencing (WES) was performed in five resected tissue samples (four tumors and one lymph node). We conducted genomic profiling and clone evolution analysis of the five samples. Gene detection helped to confirm that the metastasis lymph node was transferred from one nodule. There was apparent heterogeneity of gene mutations among the five samples of the patient, with only one shared “neurofilament heavy polypeptide” (NEFH) mutation. A dominant substitution of C > T/G > A was found in all the samples. Pyclone model was used to calculate all tissues' cellular prevalence (CP) values, and NEFH mutations were thought to be the ancestral clones. During the follow-up period, residual lesions showed no apparent changes and limited response to chemotherapy. Conclusions This report showed an essential role in genomic detection and selecting the appropriate treatment of sMPLC. Surgery remains the primary treatment strategy for this type of disease, and the occurrence and development of sMPLC need more in-depth research.

In response to the limitations observed in the Intelligent Water Droplet (IWD) algorithm for path planning, including its weak problem-solving capability and susceptibility to local optimization, this paper presents an enhanced Intelligent Water Droplet algorithm. The improved algorithm incorporates the distance factor between nodes and the target point into the original algorithm’s path probability, enhancing its problem-solving prowess and expediting algorithmic convergence. Simultaneously, a roulette-based probability selection method is introduced to circumvent local optimization during the solution process. Additionally, the algorithm is coupled with the Floyd algorithm to refine the planned path, reducing the number of inflection points to align with the motion characteristics of the inspection robot. Simulation results underscore the effectiveness of the enhanced Intelligent Water Droplet algorithm in mitigating the impact of local optimization in path planning. In comparison to the original IWD algorithm, the optimized path exhibits a 17.42% reduction in length, a 58.3% decrease in the minimum number of iterations required for path convergence, and a 36.3% reduction in the number of path inflection points. Furthermore, the total path length is decreased by 7.7% following path optimization via the Floyd algorithm.

ABSTRACTInflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic and debilitating condition of relapsing and remitting inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. Conventional therapeutic approaches for IBD have shown limited efficacy and detrimental side effects, leading to the quest for novel and effective treatment options for the disease. Bacterial membrane vesicles (MVs) are nanosized lipid particles secreted by lysis or blebbing processes from both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. These vesicles, known to carry bioactive components, are facsimiles of the parent bacterium and have been implicated in the onset and progression, as well as in the amelioration of IBD. This review discusses the overview of MVs and their impact in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of IBD. We further discuss the technical challenges facing this research area and possible research questions addressing these challenges. We summarize recent advances in the diverse relationship between IBD and MVs, and the application of this knowledge as a viable and potent therapeutic strategy for IBD.

Abstract Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum species, is one of the most destructive diseases affecting strawberry production worldwide. Fungi of the genus Colletotrichum, being ancient and co-evolved with flowering plants, rank eighth among the top ten economically important fungal pathogens and have diversified to adapt to various hosts. Since it was first reported in United States in 1931, strawberry anthracnose has spread globally, resulting in devastating economic, social, and ecological consequences. In a sense, to produce organic strawberry is impracticable largely because of this disease. Colletotrichum species pathogenic to strawberry have been widely characterized. The review focused on providing an accurate inventory of Colletotrichum species pathogenic to strawberry via revisiting the discovery history scrupulously over 90 years. A total of 23 Colletotrichum species clustered into five species complexes and two singleton taxa were accepted as strawberry pathogens with global occurrence illustrated. The relative prevalence of distinct Colletotrichum species associated with strawberry was systematically analyzed in China. Finally, the host range of the prevailing C. fructicola and C. siamense, also the top two Colletotrichum species causing serious damages on the earth was summarized, with a goal of diagnosing accurately and improving anthracnose management in agricultural ecosystem.

The difficulty in balancing energy supply and demand is increasing due to the growth of diversified and flexible building energy resources, particularly the rapid development of intermittent renewable energy being added into the power grid. The accuracy of building energy consumption prediction is of top priority for the electricity market management to ensure grid safety and reduce financial risks. The accuracy and speed of load prediction are fundamental prerequisites for different objectives such as long-term planning and short-term optimization of energy systems in buildings and the power grid. The past few decades have seen the impressive development of time series load forecasting models focusing on different domains and objectives. This paper presents an in-depth review and discussion of building energy prediction models. Three widely used prediction approaches, namely, building physical energy models (i.e., white box), data-driven models (i.e., black box), and hybrid models (i.e., grey box), were classified and introduced. The principles, advantages, limitations, and practical applications of each model were investigated. Based on this review, the research priorities and future directions in the domain of building energy prediction are highlighted. The conclusions drawn in this review could guide the future development of building energy prediction, and therefore facilitate the energy management and efficiency of buildings.

Abstract Objective To explore the risk probability and main influencing factors of stroke in followed-up hypertension patients through the analysis of long-term followed-up cohort data. Methods The method of followed-up observation cohort was used to collect the information of 168,417 followed-up hypertension patients from 2002 to 2020 in Jiading District in Shanghai. Kaplan–Meier method was used to analyze the risk probability of stroke complications in long-term followed-up HTN patients, and the influencing factors were analyzed by Cox proportional risk model. Results Among 168,417 followed-up hypertension patients, 11,143 cases had suffered stroke, and the cumulative incidence rate of stroke was 6.62% (male was 6.87%, female was 6.37%). With the extension of the hypertension years, the cumulative risk probability of stroke in HTN patients would continue to increase and the interval was not equidistant. The total cumulative risk probability of stroke in HTN patients was 78.9% (male was 91.0%, female was 70.7%). During the period of hypertension, the risk occurring probability of stroke was not fixed, but fluctuating. There were 4 onset peaks, which were in 8 years (probability was 4.2%), 15 years (probability was 14.0%), 22 years (probability was 6.0%) and 26 years (probability was 13.9%). The highest risk probability of male patients was in 26 years (probability was 23.1%), and the second peak was in 15 years (probability was 15.6%). The highest risk probability of female patients was in 15 years (probability was 12.9%), and the second peak was in 26 years (probability was 8.7%). The risk probability of different gender, BP grade and BMI was different, the male were at higher risk than the female, stage 3 HTN was higher than stage 2 and stage 1 HTN, obese people and underweight people were at higher risk than those who have normal weight. The high disease burden of type 2 diabetes seriously affects the quality of life of patients, and with the deep integration of the Internet and healthcare, the application of electronic tools and information technology to has become a trend for disease management. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of different forms and durations of E-health interventions in achieving glycemic control in type 2 diabetes patients. PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and Clinical Trials.gov were searched for randomized controlled trials reporting different forms of E-health intervention for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes patients, including comprehensive measures (CM), smartphone applications (SA), phone calls (PC), short message service (SMS), websites (W), wearable devices (WD), and usual care. The inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) adults (age≥18) with type 2 diabetes mellitus; (2) intervention period ≥1 month; (3) outcome HbA1c (%); and (4) randomized control of E-health based approaches. Cochrane tools were used to assess the risk of bias. R 4.1.2 was used to conduct the Bayesian network meta-analysis. A total of 88 studies with 13,972 type 2 diabetes patients were included. Compared to the usual care group, the SMS-based intervention was superior in reducing HbA1c levels (mean difference (MD)-0.56, 95% confidence interval (CI): -0.82 to -0.31), followed by SA (MD-0.45, 95% CI: -0.61 to -0.30), CM (MD-0.41, 95% CI: -0.57 to -0.25), W (MD-0.39, 95% CI: -0.60 to -0.18) and PC (MD-0.32, 95% CI: -0.50 to -0.14) (p < 0.05). Subgroup analysis revealed that intervention durations of ≤6 months were most effective. All type of E-health based approaches can improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Abstract Background Lupus nephritis (LN) is among the most common complication of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with high mortality and morbidity. The analysis of LN kidney's local immune response through single‐cell and spatial transcriptome enables the study of potential therapeutic targets. Methods By single cell sequencing and spatial transcriptome, we profile cells from LN kidney and normal kidney tissues to characterize cellular composition and elucidate the potential upstream monocyte/macrophage (Mono/MΦ) initiating the auto‐immune response. After the high‐throughput synergy screening, we performed the immunofluorescence to identify the specific cells in LN patients. The function experiments were finished by flow cytometry and Elisa. Results By immunofluorescence and spatial transcriptome, we identified differential subsets of Mono/MΦ and demonstrated that they exhibit temporal expression of TIMP1, IL1B, SPP1 and APOE. With the function experiments, we found that the APOE+ Mono may be compensatorily increased in LN, and the capacity of antigen presenting was decreased with the overexpression of APOE. Furthermore, how do the LN‐specific Mono/MΦ transport in and out the glomerulus to active the local immune response remains unclear. Our results showed that lymphangiogenesis occurred in LN kidneys but not in normal kidneys, suggesting the presence of a new lymphatic vessel may serve as a ‘green channel’ for LN‐specific Mono/MΦ. Conclusions In LN, APOE+ Mono are compensatorily elevated, with decreased antigen presenting ability and reduced secretion of interferons. The lymphangiogenesis in LN prompts the trafficking of Mono/MΦ in LN kidney.

Background: Exosomes, harboring donor-cell-derived biomarkers, are implicated in transferring oncologic protein and genetic materials. CD200, an immune checkpoint, has been engineered to affect immunosuppression in ovarian cancer. However, the potential of CD200 to serve as a predictor of ovarian cancers remains unexplored. Methods: We performed dynamic measurements of exosome-mediated or serum CD200 levels at primary diagnosis, post-operation, and three cycles after chemotherapy. The receiver operating characteristic curve and cumulative survival rate were paralleled to decode the predictive and prognostic profiles. Results: Independent enrichment and identification of exosomes revealed a significant concentration of CD200, predominantly located within these exosomes. The CD200 level was elevated in non-responders compared to responders at the serial points and significantly decreased after treatment. At the 335.50 pg/mL cut-off, CD200 at primary diagnosis enabled accurate discrimination between responders and non-responders with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.94 (95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.902–0.979, p = 0.01). With the cut-off dropping from 311.00 pg/mL to 265.00 pg/mL, the AUC decreased from 0.918 (95% CI = 0.873–0.963, p = 0.02) to 0.908 (95% CI = 0.862–0.955, p = 0.02), respectively. Elevated levels of CD200 levels at both primary diagnosis and three cycles after chemotherapy were identified as independent predictors for poor progression-free survival (PFS) (hazard ratio (HR) = 2.8, 95% CI = 2.08–3.49, p = 0.01; HR = 6.7, 95% CI = 4.01–8.02, p = 0.01, respectively) and overall survival (OS) (HR = 3.5, 95% CI = 2.14–4.99, p = 0.04; HR = 5.6, 95% CI = 3.01–7.34, p = 0.01, respectively). Based on CD200 dynamics, patients were stratified into high- and low-AUC groups. High CD200-AUC was independently associated with unfavourable PFS and OS (HR = 4.6, 95% CI = 3.6–15.7, p = 0.01; HR = 3.2, 95% CI = 1.5–6.3, p = 0.01, respectively). Conclusions: This study proposes high exosome-mediated CD200 as a liquid-based biomarker indicative of chemotolerance and dismal survival in ovarian neoplasms.

Abstract Background Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a group of complex neurodevelopment disorders with a strong genetic basis. Large scale sequencing studies have identified over one hundred ASD risk genes. Nevertheless, the vast majority of ASD risk genes remain to be discovered, as it is estimated that more than 1000 genes are likely to be involved in ASD risk. Prioritization of risk genes is an effective strategy to increase the power of identifying novel risk genes in genetics studies of ASD. As ASD risk genes are likely to exhibit distinct properties from multiple angles, we reason that integrating multiple levels of genomic data is a powerful approach to pinpoint genuine ASD risk genes. Results We present BNScore, a Bayesian model selection framework to probabilistically prioritize ASD risk genes through explicitly integrating evidence from sequencing-identified ASD genes, biological annotations, and gene functional network. We demonstrate the validity of our approach and its improved performance over existing methods by examining the resulting top candidate ASD risk genes against sets of high-confidence benchmark genes and large-scale ASD genome-wide association studies. We assess the tissue-, cell type- and development stage-specific expression properties of top prioritized genes, and find strong expression specificity in brain tissues, striatal medium spiny neurons, and fetal developmental stages. Conclusions In summary, we show that by integrating sequencing findings, functional annotation profiles, and gene-gene functional network, our proposed BNScore provides competitive performance compared to current state-of-the-art methods in prioritizing ASD genes. Our method offers a general and flexible strategy to risk gene prioritization that can potentially be applied to other complex traits as well.

Abstract Background Compared with immunocompetent patients, immunosuppressed patients have higher morbidity and mortality, a longer duration of viral shedding, more frequent complications, and more antiviral resistance during influenza infections. However, few data on this population in China have been reported. We analysed the clinical characteristics, effects of antiviral therapy, and risk factors for admission to the intensive care unit (ICU) and death in this population after influenza infections and explored the influenza vaccination situation for this population. Methods We analysed 111 immunosuppressed inpatients who were infected with influenza virus during the 2015–2020 influenza seasons. Medical data were collected through the electronic medical record system and analysed. Univariate analysis and multivariate logistics analysis were used to identify risk factors. Results The most common cause of immunosuppression was malignancies being treated with chemotherapy (64.0%, 71/111), followed by haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) (23.4%, 26/111). The most common presenting symptoms were fever and cough. Dyspnoea, gastrointestinal symptoms and altered mental status were more common in HSCT patients than in patients with immunosuppression due to other causes. Approximately 14.4% (16/111) of patients were admitted to the ICU, and 9.9% (11/111) of patients died. Combined and double doses of neuraminidase inhibitors did not significantly reduce the risk of admission to the ICU or death. Risk factors for admission to the ICU were dyspnoea, coinfection with other pathogens and no antiviral treatment within 48 h. The presence of dyspnoea and altered mental status were independently associated with death. Only 2.7% (3/111) of patients less than 12 months old had received a seasonal influenza vaccine. Conclusion Fever and other classic symptoms of influenza may be absent in immunosuppressed recipients, especially in HSCT patients. Conducting influenza virus detection at the first presentation seems to be a good choice for early diagnosis. Clinicians should pay extra attention to immunosuppressed patients with dyspnoea, altered mental status, coinfection with other pathogens and no antiviral treatment within 48 h because these patients have a high risk of severe illness. Inactivated influenza vaccines are recommended for immunosuppressed patients.

Abstract Background The roles of Polypyrimidine tract-binding protein 3 (PTBP3) in regulating lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) cells progression is unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of PTBP3 in LUSC. Methods Expression and survival analysis of PTBP3 was firstly investigated using TCGA datasets. Quantitative reverse transcription PCR and Western blot were performed to detect PTBP3 expression in clinical samples. Moreover, cell counting kit 8 (CCK-8) assays, colony formation assays and in vivo tumor formation assays were used to examine the effects of PTBP3 on LUSC cell proliferation. RNA-sequence and analysis explores pathways regulated by PTBP3.Flow cytology was used analyzed cell cycle. Cell cycle-related markers were analyzed by Western blot. Results PTBP3 was found to be overexpressed in LUSC tissues compared with normal tissues. High PTBP3 expression was significantly correlated with poor prognosis. In vitro and vivo experiments demonstrated that PTBP3 knockdown caused a significant decrease in the proliferation rate of cells. Bioinformatics analysis showed that PTBP3 involved in cell cycle pathway regulation in LUSC. Furthermore, PTBP3 knockdown arrested cell cycle progression at S phase via decreasing CDK2/Cyclin A2 complex. In addition, downregulation of PTBP3 significantly decreased the expression of CDC25A. Conclusions Our results suggest that PTBP3 regulated LUSC cell proliferation via cell cycle and might be a potential target for molecular therapy of LUSC.

Professional Development (PD) for teachers in China, as in many other countries worldwide, is receiving increased attention. Within the research context, a gap has been identified for teachers’ engagement in PD which may play a mediating role between PD and classroom teaching practice. Therefore, this small-scale research was conducted to explore the relationship between teachers’ engagement in PD and teaching practice, and further, the potential PD programme contributors to teachers’ engagement in PD. This study employed a mixed-method methodology: a survey (n=124) and interviews (n=14) with Chinese English Language Teaching (ELT) teachers from primary and secondary schools. Results indicated that there was a reciprocal relationship between teachers’ engagement in PD and their teaching practice. In addition, based on teachers’ different individual PD needs, four types of teacher engagement emerged.

The application of digital technologies has a significant impact on organizational performance by way of different talent management methods, thereby enabling the maintenance of the organization’s continuous competitive advantage. Therefore, this paper studied the four key factors that influence organizational performance: digital technology application (DTA), inclusive talent management (ITM), exclusive talent management (ETM), and non-equilibrium investment (NET), aiming to investigate how digital technology application and talent management methods positively affect organizational performance, explore how this relationship is regulated by NET, and provides suggestions for selecting appropriate talent management methods. To conduct quantitative analysis, questionnaires were used with a sample size of 534 middle and senior managers as well as human resources practitioners from different enterprises. The structural equation model (SEM) was employed along with 5000 iterations to test the research hypotheses. The results indicate a positive correlation between digital technology application and organizational performance. Furthermore, ITM and ETM act as intermediaries between digital technology application and organizational performance, whereas NET plays a regulatory role in relation to ITM and organizational performance. This paper offers comprehensive insights into the factors influencing organizational performance and sheds light on how organizations make decisions regarding data-driven talent management methods at different stages of development.

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) technology has promoted the development of electroencephalogram (EEG) emotion recognition. However, existing methods often overlook the computational cost of EEG emotion recognition, and there is still room for improvement in the accuracy of EEG emotion recognition. In this study, we propose a novel EEG emotion recognition algorithm called FCAN–XGBoost, which is a fusion of two algorithms, FCAN and XGBoost. The FCAN module is a feature attention network (FANet) that we have proposed for the first time, which processes the differential entropy (DE) and power spectral density (PSD) features extracted from the four frequency bands of the EEG signal and performs feature fusion and deep feature extraction. Finally, the deep features are fed into the eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithm to classify the four emotions. We evaluated the proposed method on the DEAP and DREAMER datasets and achieved a four-category emotion recognition accuracy of 95.26% and 94.05%, respectively. Additionally, our proposed method reduces the computational cost of EEG emotion recognition by at least 75.45% for computation time and 67.51% for memory occupation. The performance of FCAN–XGBoost outperforms the state-of-the-art four-category model and reduces computational costs without losing classification performance compared with other models.

ctDNA has been shown to identify minimal residual disease (MRD) and is thus dynamically monitored in different types of tumours. Here, the authors show that serial longitudinal ctDNA analysis can be used as a tool to detect MRD, inform the use of adjuvant therapy, and predict recurrence risk in lung cancer.

Toxicity study, especially in determining the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) in phase I clinical trial, is an important step in developing new life-saving drugs. In practice, toxicity levels may be categorised as binary grades, multiple grades, or in a more generalised case, continuous grades. In this study, we propose an overall MTD framework that includes all the aforementioned cases for a single toxicity outcome (response). The mechanism of determining MTD involves a function that is predetermined by user. Analytic properties of such a system are investigated and simulation studies are performed for various scenarios. The concept of the continual reassessment method (CRM) is also implied in the framework and Bayesian analysis, including Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods are used in estimating the model parameters.

Objectives To identify clues for women’s tobacco control, this study analyses the gender differences in social environmental changes associated with smoking and the interaction between the environment and individuals’ social integration.Design, setting and participants A cross-sectional design and secondary analysis were used among Chinese internal migrants. Data were from the 2012 Migrant Dynamics Monitoring Survey in China with participants aged 15–59 years old (75 416 women and 83 140 men) who resided in cities for more than 1 month.Primary and secondary outcome measures Social environmental changes were measured by differences in smoking prevalence and women’s empowerment between the migrant-receiving province (MRP) and migrant-sending province (MSP). Social participation and duration of stay (DOS) were adopted as indicators of social integration. Stratified analysis and binary logistic regression models were used to determine the dependent variable (smoking status) and environmental changes after controlling for age, education, income and happiness.Results Differences in the smoking prevalence environment (lower in MRP, OR 0.70, 95% CI 0.60 to 0.83; higher rate in MRP, OR 1.79, 95% CI 1.35 to 2.37) and women’s empowerment (lower rate in MRP, OR 0.80, 95% CI 0.68 to 0.97; higher rate in MRP, OR 1.15, 95% CI 1.00 to 1.33) between MRP and MSP were positively correlated with women’s smoking. In men, however, migrating to an area with lower smoking prevalence could not reduce smoking risk, whereas moving to an area with higher women’s empowerment could. A long DOS was an independent risk factor for smoking in women (ranged from 1.20 to 2.00 in various environmental changes scenarios) but a protective factor for men. An interaction between environmental changes and social integration could not be verified.Conclusions Tobacco control strategies should consider gender differences, especially women who are experiencing social environmental changes.

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is present in nearly half of patients with heart failure. The prevalence of heart failure with normal or near-normal ejection fractions increases more rapidly than in patients with reduced ejection fractions. Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI), angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), aldosterone antagonist, β-blocker, and calcium channel blocker have not shown significant efficacy in HFpEF clinical trials. Sacubitril/Valsartan, combined angiotensin receptor blocker (Valsartan) with neprilysin inhibitor (Sacubitril), was the first-of-its-kind angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI) to be developed. It has shown significant efficacy on HFpEF in recent studies. It is considered that most of the current Sacubitril/Valsartan studies are still concentrated in the field of heart failure, especially heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). This review discusses the latest advances in cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic aspects of Sacubitril/Valsartan, mainly in HFpEF, providing more evidence for further future research on Sacubitril/Valsartan and raising issues that should be paid attention. At the same time, this review will introduce the academic consensus on Sacubitril/Valsartan in treating HFpEF in China.

ObjectDuring the later period of the COVID-19 pandemic, the public has been at risk of the evolving COVID-19 variants and hesitated to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to a certain extent. In this context, the health belief model (HBM) and the theory of planned behavior model (TPB) were used to compare and summarize the relationship between vaccine hesitation/non-hesitation and the intentions to get COVID-19 vaccines and its influencing factors.MethodsThe cross-sectional, population-based online survey was conducted from 14 April to 30 April 2021, and 1757 respondents were recruited to participate in the survey through the Wenjuanxing online survey platform. The HBM and TPB covariate scores were expressed using means and standard deviations and compared between groups using t-tests. Backward multiple linear regression models were used to explore the factors influencing the public's intentions to receive the COVID-19 vaccines.ResultsThis study found that educational background is one of the factors influencing vaccine hesitation. Most people with high education do not hesitate (65.24%), while a more significant proportion of people with low education have vaccine hesitation (66.00%). According to HBM, for the vaccine hesitation group, self-efficacy, family advice, and doctor's advice were the most critical factors affecting the public's future vaccination intentions; for the vaccine non-hesitation group, self-efficacy, doctor's advice, and perceived benefits are the most important influencing factors. According to the TPB, the subjective norm is the most critical factor affecting the future vaccination intention of the vaccine hesitation group, and the attitude toward behavior is the most critical factor affecting the future vaccination intention of the vaccine non-hesitation group.ConclusionsIn the context of COVID-19, the public's hesitation on the “current” vaccines will still affect future vaccination intentions. Using HBM and TPB would help health policymakers and healthcare providers formulate intervention plans.

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is characterized by autoimmune damage to the postsynaptic membrane of the neuromuscular junction (NMJ) with impaired postsynaptic acetylcholine receptor (AChR) aggregation. Low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 4 (LRP4) plays an important role in AChR aggregation at endplate membranes via the Agrin–LRP4–muscle-specific receptor tyrosine kinase (MuSK) cascade. Sorting nexin 17 (SNX17) regulates the degradation and recycling of various internalized membrane proteins. However, whether SNX17 regulates LRP4 remains unclear. Therefore, we examined the regulatory effects of SNX17 on LRP4 and its influence on AChR aggregation in MG. We selected C2C12 myotubes and induced LRP4 internalization via stimulation with anti-LRP4 antibody and confirmed intracellular interaction between SNX17 and LRP4. SNX17 knockdown and overexpression confirmed that SNX17 promoted MuSK phosphorylation and AChR aggregation by increasing cell surface LRP4 expression. By establishing experimental autoimmune MG (EAMG) mouse models, we identified that SNX17 upregulation improved fragmentation of the AChR structure at the NMJ and alleviated leg weakness in EAMG mice. Thus, these results reveal that SNX17 may be a novel target for future MG therapy.
