In this paper, we study an SIRI epidemic model with relapse and free boundaries, which can describe the spreading process of diseases well. At first, the existence and uniqueness of the global solution is proven. And then we obtain some sufficient conditions for the disease spreading and vanishing. We can find an $\mathcal{R}_0$ such that the disease will vanish for $\mathcal{R}_0\leq1$, otherwise, whether the disease will spread or not is determined by the initial infected region $h_0$ and spreading capacity $\mu$ of the spreading front. Moreover, the longtime behavior of the solution is given. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to illustrate the results of the analysis.

This study presents a comprehensive modeling and economic evaluation of a Monoethanolamine (MEA)-based post-combustion carbon capture (PCC) absorber unit. The simulation provides detailed insights into the absorber's internal profiles, including temperature gradients and the percentage of CO2 captured, with a particular focus on the effects of varying the number of stages and absorber diameters. Validation against experimental data demonstrated close alignment between simulated and observed values, with an average Root Mean Square Deviation (RMSD) of 0.018 and 4.0129, respectively, confirming the reliability of the simulation in capturing the complex dynamics of the absorber.The economic analysis, conducted using the Aspen Process Economic Analyzer (APEA), simplified the complex relationship between absorber segmentation, capital and operational costs, and absorber diameter. The study revealed that increasing the absorber diameter and the number of stages leads to a significant rise in Total Capital Cost (TCC), Total Operating Cost (TOC), Equipment Cost, and Total Installed Cost (TIC), with the highest costs observed at a stage number of 90 and a diameter of 1.0 m. However, the analysis identified an optimal configuration at an absorber diameter of 0.45 m with either 10 or 20 stages. This setup effectively balances cost and CO2 capture efficiency, offering a more economical solution compared to configurations with larger diameters and higher stage numbers, which substantially increase expenses. The findings highlight the critical trade-offs between operational efficiency and capital expenditure, stressing on the crucial role of absorber diameter in determining the economic feasibility of the absorber block in PCC systems.

Oxygen-rich combustion is a new type of clean combustion technology with important application prospects. At present, there are few detailed analyses on the mechanism changes of soot formation under oxygen enrichment of propane. In this paper, the effects of oxygen-rich (O2/N2, O2/CO2) combustion on soot formation in the propane laminar flow coaxial jet diffusion flame were investigated by using the experiment and numerical simulation. The flame image was taken by a color (CCD) camera in the visible band, and the two-dimensional distribution of temperature and soot volume fraction in the flame was reconstructed. In numerical simulation, the soot production model considers a detailed description of nucleation via collisions among heavy polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, particle aggregation, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons condensation, surface growth and oxidation through the hydrogen abstraction acetylene addition mechanism. The results show that the experimental results were compared with the numerical simulation results, and the numerical simulation results predict the temperature and soot change of oxygen-rich flame well. With the increase in oxygen concentration, the peaks of soot and temperature in the two oxygen-rich atmospheres gradually increased. With the increase in oxygen concentration, the peaks of soot and temperature in the two oxygen-rich atmospheres gradually increased. Comparing the combustion mechanism changes of the two oxygen-rich combustion systems, it was found that the hydrogen abstraction acetylene addition mechanism was the main cause of soot generation. The OH oxidation is dominated near the fuel nozzle side, and O2 oxidation is dominant downstream. With the substitution of CO2 for N2, the chemical effect of CO2 reduces the flame temperature and inhibits the formation mechanism and oxidation mechanism of soot to some extent. This in turn leaded to a reduction in the amount of soot produced.

ObjectiveTo investigate the value of the combined application of intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) and enhanced T2*-weighted angiography (ESWAN) for preoperative prediction of microvascular invasion (MVI) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Materials and methods76 patients with pathologically confirmed HCC were retrospectively enrolled and divided into the MVI-positive group (n=26) and MVI-negative group (n=50). Conventional MRI, IVIM, and ESWAN sequences were performed. Three region of interests (ROIs) were placed on the maximum axial slice of the lesion on D, D*, and f maps derived from IVIM sequence, and R2* map derived from ESWAN sequence, and intratumoral susceptibility signal (ITSS) from the phase map derived from ESWAN sequence was also automatically measured. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were drawn to evaluate the ability for predicting MVI. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to screen independent risk predictors in clinical and imaging information. The Delong’s test was used to compare the differences between the area under curves (AUCs).ResultsThe D and D* values of MVI-negative group were significantly higher than those of MVI-positive group (P=0.038, and P=0.023), which in MVI-negative group were 0.892×10-3 (0.760×10-3, 1.303×10-3) mm2/s and 0.055 (0.025, 0.100) mm2/s, and in MVI-positive group were 0.591×10-3 (0.372×10-3, 0.824×10-3) mm2/s and 0.028 (0.006, 0.050)mm2/s, respectively. The R2* and ITSS values of MVI-negative group were significantly lower than those of MVI-positive group (P=0.034, and P=0.005), which in MVI-negative group were 29.290 (23.117, 35.228) Hz and 0.146 (0.086, 0.236), and in MVI-positive group were 43.696 (34.914, 58.083) Hz and 0.199 (0.155, 0.245), respectively. After univariate and multivariate analyses, only AFP (odds ratio, 0.183; 95% CI, 0.041–0.823; P = 0.027) was the independent risk factor for predicting the status of MVI. The AUCs of AFP, D, D*, R2*, and ITSS for prediction of MVI were 0.652, 0.739, 0.707, 0.798, and 0.657, respectively. The AUCs of IVIM (D+D*), ESWAN (R2*+ITSS), and combination (D+D*+R2*+ITSS) for predicting MVI were 0.772, 0.800, and, 0.855, respectively. When IVIM combined with ESWAN, the performance was improved with a sensitivity of 73.1% and a specificity of 92.0% (cut-off value: 0.502) and the AUC was significantly higher than AFP (P=0.001), D (P=0.038), D* (P=0.023), R2* (P=0.034), and ITSS (P=0.005).ConclusionThe IVIM and ESWAN parameters showed good efficacy in prediction of MVI in patients with HCC. The combination of IVIM and ESWAN may be useful for noninvasive prediction of MVI before clinical operation.

Coupling the San Diego gas phase reaction mechanism and the Moss Brookes soot model using FLUENT14.0 software, the effect of adding H2/CO on the fuel side on soot formation in an ethylene/air laminar diffusion flame was studied. A specific analysis was conducted on the effects of H2, CO and its chemical effects on flame temperature, soot volume fraction, mole fractions of important intermediate products OH, H, and C2H2, as well as rate of soot mass nucleation, surface growth, and oxidation. In the numerical calculation, the virtual substances FH2 and FCO are set to separate the chemical effect of H2 and CO and to analyze the chemical effect of adding H2 and CO on soot formation. The results show that the flame temperature increases slightly, and the soot volume fraction decreases monotonically with adding H2 and CO. The chemical effect of H2 increases the temperature, the mole fraction of C2H2 and H, the soot nucleation rate, and the surface growth rate, and finally, it promotes soot formation. The chemical effect of CO increases the temperature and H mole fraction, reduces the OH mole fraction, and then increases the soot surface growth rate and reduces the soot oxidation rate. The higher soot nucleation, surface growth rate, and lower oxidation rate jointly promote soot formation.

Neurofibromatosis-Noonan syndrome (NFNS), a rare autosomal-dominant hereditary disease, is characterized by clinical manifestations of both neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and NS. We present a case of NFNS with short stature caused by a heterozygous nonsense variant of the NF1 gene. A 12-year-old boy was admitted because of short stature, numerous café-au-lait spots, low-set and posteriorly rotated ears, sparse eyebrows, broad forehead, and inverted triangular face. Cranial and spinal magnetic resonance imaging showed abnormal nodular lesions. Molecular analysis revealed a novel heterozygous c.6189 C > G (p.(Tyr2063*)) variant in the NF1 gene. The patient was not prescribed recombinant growth hormone (GH) therapy because exogenous GH may have enlarged the abnormal skeletal lesions. During follow-up, Lisch nodules were found in the ophthalmologic examination. NFNS, a variant form of NF1, is caused by heterozygous mutations in the NF1 gene. The mechanism of GH deficiency caused by NF1 is still unclear. Whether NFNS patients should be treated with exogenous GH remains controversial.

In this study, a kinetic-free thermodynamic equilibrium model consisting of five units was developed to predict SNG production via coal gasification, using two distinct feeding technologies (SFT and DFT) and two coal ranks (BT and BL) in an entrained flow gasifier using Aspen Plus (V10), and comparing results with empirical data. The alignment between simulation outcomes and experimental observations is verified, and analysis of various parameters' impacts on product gas composition and yield is conducted. Sensitivity analysis reveals consistent trends across different coal ranks. The O2/coal ratio emerged as a key factor, demonstrating notable effects on syngas composition and yield. Specifically, increasing the O2/coal ratio from 0.3 to 1.0 enhanced H2 and CO2 proportions in the syngas which are beneficial for SNG production, as hydrogen is a key component for SNG. Elevating the O2/Coal ratio from 0.2 to 0.6 (optimal) favors CGE, facilitating high-quality syngas production. Additionally, increasing the CO2 flow rate up to 3 ton/hr improves the HHV of syngas, beyond which HHV declines. Raising the W/C ratio from 0.3 to 1.0 leads to decreased HHV for BL and BT coal. Additionally, increasing the W/C ratio from 0.3 to 1.0 decreases HHV. Therefore, it is crucial to undergo the production of SNG within the optimal ranges, and these findings provide crucial insights into optimizing gasification parameters for enhanced syngas production across various feed technologies and coal types to produce desired syngas results.

Kokusaginine is a bioactive ingredient extracted from Ruta graveolens L., which has a range of biological activities. Its pharmacokinetic (PK) properties are particularly important for clinical applications; however, they have not been fully elucidated. In addition, the effect of sex differences on drug metabolism is increasingly being recognized, but most studies have ignored this important factor. This study aims to fill this knowledge gap by taking an in-depth look at the PK properties of kokusaginine and how gender affects its metabolism and distribution in the body. It also lays the foundation for clinical drug development. In this study, a sensitive ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) method was developed and validated for quantifying kokusaginine in Sprague Dawley (SD) rat plasma and tissue homogenates. Metabolic stability was evaluated in vitro using gender-specific liver microsomes. Innovatively, we incorporated sex as a variable into both in vitro and in vivo PK studies in SD rats, analyzing key parameters with Phoenix 8.3.5 software. The developed UPLC method demonstrated high sensitivity and precision, essential for PK analysis. Notably, in vitro studies revealed a pronounced sex-dependent metabolic variability (p < 0.05). In vivo, gender significantly affected the Area Under the Moment Curve (AUMC)(0-∞) of the plasma PK parameter (p < 0.05) and the AUMC(0-t) of brain tissue (p < 0.0001), underscoring the necessity of sex-specific PK assessments. The calculated absolute bioavailability of 71.13 ± 12.75% confirmed the favorable oral absorption of kokusaginine. Additionally, our innovative tissue-plasma partition coefficient (Kp) analysis highlighted a rapid and uniform tissue distribution pattern. This study presents a sex-inclusive PK evaluation of kokusaginine, offering novel insights into its metabolic profile and distribution. These findings are instrumental for informing clinical medication practices, dosage optimization, and a nuanced understanding of drug efficacy and safety in a sex-specific context.

Background Endothelial dysfunction is a major pathophysiology observed in hypertension. Ghrelin, a key regulator of metabolism, has been shown to play protective roles in cardiovascular system. However, whether it has the effect of improving endothelial function and lowering blood pressure in Ang II-induced hypertensive mice remains unclear. Methods In this study, hypertension was induced by continuous infusion of Ang II with a subcutaneous osmotic pumps and ghrelin (30 μg/kg/day) was intraperitoneal injection for 4 weeks. Acetylcholine-induced endothelium-dependent relaxation in aortae was measured on wire myograph and superoxide production in mouse aortae was assessed by fluorescence imaging. Results We found that ghrelin had protective effects on Ang II-induced hypertension by inhibiting oxidative stress, increasing NO production, improving endothelial function, and lowering blood pressure. Furthermore, ghrelin activated AMPK signaling in Ang II-induced hypertension, leading to inhibition of oxidative stress. Compound C, a specific inhibitor of AMPK, reversed the protective effects of ghrelin on the reduction of oxidative stress, the improvement of endothelial function and the reduction of blood pressure. Conclusions our findings indicated that ghrelin protected against Ang II-induced hypertension by improving endothelial function and lowering blood pressure partly through activating AMPK signaling. Thus, ghrelin may be a valuable therapeutic strategy for hypertension.

Abstract Background Curcumin (Cur) is a bioactive dietary polyphenol of turmeric with various biological activities against several cancers. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths. Intestinal cholesterol homeostasis is associated with CRC. Chemotherapy for CRC is related to varied adverse effects. Therefore, natural products with anti-cancer properties represent a potential strategy for primary prevention of CRC. Methods The present study used Cur as a therapeutic approach against CRC using the Caco-2 cell line. The cells were treated with different concentrations of Cur for different duration of time and then the proliferation ability of cells was assessed using Cell Counting Kit-8 and 5-Ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine assays. Oil red O staining and cholesterol assay kit were used to evaluate cellular lipid content and cholesterol outward transportation. Finally, the protein expressions of cholesterol transport-related protein and signal transduction molecules were assessed using Western blot assay. Results Cur inhibited cell proliferation in Caco-2 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner by activating the transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily A member 1 (TRPA1) channel. Activation of the TRPA1 channel led to increased intracellular calcium, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) upregulation, and the subsequent downregulation of the specificity protein-1 (SP-1)/sterol regulatory element-binding protein-2 (SREBP-2)/Niemann-Pick C1-like 1 (NPC1L1) signaling pathway-related proteins, and finally reduced cholesterol absorption in Caco-2 cells. Conclusions Cur inhibits cell proliferation and reduces cholesterol absorption in Caco-2 cells through the Ca2+/PPARγ/SP-1/SREBP-2/NPC1L1 signaling by activating the TRPA1 channel, suggesting that Cur can be used as a dietary supplement for the primary prevention of CRC. Flue gas stream generated from combusted natural gas, petroleum, and coal in power plants contains enormous CO2 with detrimental effects on the environment. CO2 capture systems must be integrated into these power plants to prevent emissions of CO2 into the open atmosphere. This work uses rate-based process modelling and a parametric design approach to optimally design large-scale amine-based PCC and compression systems that can be integrated into real 550 MW coal-fired and 555MW NGCC fired power plants. A comparative analysis of energy and economy is also conducted. Based on monoethanolamine (MEA), the process parameters of the post-combustion capture and compression system for CO2 were used as the study baseline. Different amines and alternative flow scheme optimization of the post-combustion capture with compression models are developed for coal and natural gas combined cycle (NGCC) cases and their energy consumption performances compared. Also, the operating and capital costs of the CO2 Capture and Storage (CCS) plant are determined for the overall process of economic evaluation concerning technical and economic performance parameters. The results show that rich solvent cooled recycle (RSR) and lean vapour compression (LVC) process modification under the integration case of CO2 capture and compressed Coal, energy savings of 20.4%, 41.8% and 34.8% for MEA, piperazine activated methyldiethanolamine solution (MDEA+PZ) and piperazine activated monoethanolamine (MEA+PZ) respectively, is possible when compared with the basic situation of MEA. RSR+LVC process modification under the integration case of CO2 capture and compressed NGCC, energy savings of 18.9%, 35.4% and 34.4% for MEA, MDEA+PZ and MEA+PZ, respectively, is possible when compared with the basic situation of MEA. Economic performance: the total annual operating costs of MDEA+PZ, RSR+LVC technological process optimized for the coal case was reduced by approximately 30% compared with the basic situation of MEA, while that for the NGCC case was reduced by 19%. The cost of CO2 avoided for the coal used MDEA+PZ into RSR+LVC technological process optimized capture is decreased by 13% compared with coal captured in MEA basic situation. For the NGCC cases, the cost of CO2 avoided for the NGCC of MDEA+PZ, RSR+LVC process optimized capture is decreased by 7% compared with NGCC with MEA basic case capture.

This paper reports an experimental study on the effects of O2 concentration and CO2 concentration on soot volume fraction and primary particle size of flame centre in ethylene laminar co-diffusion flame. The incandescent light was induced by a two-color band method and laser-excited by wavelength 1064 nm. Previous studies have shown that the oxygen concentration affects the soot volume fraction in the flame. However, the effects of O2 concentration on the primary particle size under CO2 atmosphere are unclear and need to be further discussed. Seven flames were optically detected, in which the oxygen concentration of the accompanying gas varied from 21% to 50% by volume. One primary flame was burned in co-flowing ethylene/air. Six ethylene flames were burned in an oxygen-rich O2/N2 or O2/CO2 atmosphere with an oxygen mole fraction from 30% to 50%. The C2H4 flow rate remained constant in all operating conditions. The results show that the SVF observed by the LII method and spectroscopy in the oxygen-enriched flame are in good agreement. Furthermore, the soot's primary particle diameter measured by the time-resolved LII method is in good agreement with the transmission electron microscope image analysis.With the increase of oxygen concentration, the flame height becomes shorter, the luminosity becomes brighter, and the soot yield increases. Compared with an N2 atmosphere with the same oxygen concentration, the soot yield in a CO2 atmosphere was significantly inhibited. In all the flames studied, the SVF along the flame axis showed a similar distribution: it first increased to the maximum value and then decreased rapidly until the flame tip. The maximum SVF on the axis appears between 0.64 and 0.78 based on the normalized height of the visible flame. In all ethylene/(O2/N2) flames, the maximum primary particle diameter and average primary particle diameter increase with oxygen content. For ethylene/(O2/CO2) flame, the maximum diameter of primary particles decreases with the increased oxygen content. The uncertainty of primary diameter is mainly caused by the thermal adaptation coefficient, the lower LII signal of smaller particles and the uncertainty of local flame temperature.

Oxygen-reduced air flooding (ORAF) is an important efficient development means for tight and low permeability reservoirs because of its low cost, low risk, and ability to penetrate into voids and substrates. However, the critical value of oxygen-reduced, which can take into account the cost and corrosion protection requirements, is uncertain. Therefore, the corrosion behavior of N80, J55, and 3Cr steels under simulated high pressure (30 MPa) gas injection with different oxygen content (1%–12% vol.) was studied by weight loss method and Ultra-Depth Three-Dimensional Microscope. Under this oxygen content, the corrosion behavior of N80, J55, and 3Cr steels under different total pressure (20–35 MPa), temperature (25℃–70℃), and coexistence of gas and water was further studied. The results show that under the condition of high temperature and high-pressure drying, when the oxygen content in the oxygen-reduced air is reduced to 5%, all three kinds of steels belong to slight corrosion (

Although coal mining has played a substantial role in world’s development as a critical fuel source for at least 25 years, its value is partly offset by the massive environmental issues it presents during combustion. The shift to a net-zero CO2 emission will open unique possibilities for new coal technological models in which progressive studies and policies, development, and modernization will play a significant role. Therefore, a collection of technologies has been proposed, one of which is cost-effective is the Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) coupled with carbon capture storage (CCS) and utilization technology (CCU) UCG-CCS/CCU. This paper reviews the current status and technology development in implementing low carbon emission energy on underground coal gasification. The study, therefore, leads to discussing the modern stage of underground coal gasification and carbon capture storage development, recent pilot operations, and current developments of the growing market. At the same time, it provides a reference for underground coal gasification combined with CCUS technology.

In order to explore the viscosity reduction characteristics and mechanism of heavy oil emulsion by water bath and microwave heating, the comparative viscosity-reducing experiments by water bath and microwave heating were designed with the Venezuela heavy oil emulsion with water content of 50% and nanocomposite viscosity reducer, including the viscosity reduction law analysis, the four-fraction (saturates, aromatics, resins and asphaltenes, known as SARA) separation analysis, the full two-dimensional gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis, the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analysis and the viscosity rebound experiment. The rules for effect of viscosity reducer mass fraction, heating temperature and heating time on the apparent viscosity of heavy oil emulsion were determined. The experimental results show that: The mass fraction of viscosity reducer has the greatest influence on the apparent viscosity. The microwave can affect the polar components and water molecules of crude oil and its non-thermal effect can further reduce the apparent viscosity of heavy oil emulsion. The light components can be obtained from the colloid and asphaltene lamellar molecules with a thick cyclic aromatic nucleus, polycyclic or heterocyclic isomeric alkyl by microwave heating and the mass fraction of heteroatom group can be reduced. The apparent viscosity of oil sample heated by microwave increased slightly within 30 days, but the viscosity reduction rate was still kept at 87.44%. Thus, these research results are very important for the viscosity reduction, production and transportation technology of heavy oil by microwave heatings.

In order to predict the erosion life and erosion failure time of the metal mesh, based on the rotating erosion experiments under different working conditions, the erosion mass loss of the metal mesh under different factors was measured by the weight loss method and the erosion mathematical prediction model was put forward. The erosion wear mechanism of the single-layer metal mesh was explored by using electron microscope scanner and optical microscope. The results show that the erosion rate increases exponentially with the increase of liquid velocity (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 m/s). When the solid mass fraction (0.3%, 0.5%, 0.8%) and erosion Angle is 15°–45°, the erosion rate is proportional to the solid mass fraction and erosion Angle. After erosion, the mesh samples suffered different degree of pitting corrosion, ploughing and cutting wear, and the mesh wear was local wear. Compared with the experimental value, the error of the erosion mathematical model is less than 20%, which has a certain reliability, and has an important reference significance for guiding the production control of sand oil Wells.

In this study, a non-stirred Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) testing device is developed to measure the flow field in a solid–liquid two-phase centrifugal pump. The pump casing and impeller are made of an organic glass material. Two types of impellers are designed considering different structure parameters. The performance curves of the pump are obtained for the different impellers at a rotating speed of 900 rpm with particle concentrations of 0%, 3%, 5%, and 10%. The flow fields for water and a solid–liquid two-phase mixture for the two impellers are measured utilizing the PIV system in a centrifugal rotating frame at the designed condition. The distribution of the particles, together with its influence on the performance of the different impellers, is analyzed. From a comparison of the relative velocity vector fields, the following can be concluded. First, the pump with a double arc-shaped profile demonstrated a more uniform and stable flow field distribution and higher performance than that with a single arc profile. Secondly, the solid particles were distributed mainly at the outlet of the impeller and volute wall, whereas the concentration distribution of the larger particles tended to match the pressure surface. This research can provide theoretical guidance for the design and optimization of two-phase flow centrifugal pumps.

This study is aimed at carrying out investigations on a domestic gas field, located in Yanchang, China, with a view to optimize the natural gas purification process. The main objectives of this work are (i) to reduce the natural gas purification system’s energy consumption and (ii) improve the existing purification levels. Process simulations were carried out using Aspen Plus™ software, and a comprehensive technical and economic analysis was carried out. The single-factor sensitivity analysis method was used to determine the parameters of absorption, such as the reflux ratio and number of stages. The heat transfer process was analyzed using the energy-saving method of the energy system, and a modified process was recommended. The optimization results show that the recommended system has better purification performance, the comprehensive energy consumption is effectively reduced, and the energy efficiency is improved by 9%.

Volute wall wear situations directly affect a long time safe operation for the centrifugal slurry pump unit and the whole system. In the present study, internal flow field is numerically investigated in a solid-liquid centrifugal pump, and the volute wall wear caused by the solid-liquid two-phase flow is predicted with wear equation. A systematic analysis on the wear mechanism of the centrifugal pump volute wall is carried out deeply, including the volute wall wear region, wear rate, and the relationship among inlet flow rate, particle concentration, and particle size. The predicted high erosion intensity area shows good agreement with the experimental erosion area, and the predicted and experimental areas are both located at the volute angle of 180° and near tongue. Therefore, the wear equation put forward in the present study is effective for estimating the erosion intensity and predicting the erosion area around the volute casing of a centrifugal pump.

Hydrogen mixed natural gas for combustion can improve combustion characteristics and reduce carbon emission, which has important engineering application value. A casing swirl burner model is adopted to numerically simulate and research the natural gas hydrogen mixing technology for combustion in gas boilers in this paper. Under the condition of conventional air atmosphere and constant air excess coefficient, the six working conditions for hydrogen mixing proportion into natural gas are designed to explore the combustion characteristics and the laws of pollution emissions. The temperature distributions, composition, and emission of combustion flue gas under various working conditions are analyzed and compared. Further investigation is also conducted for the variation laws of NOx and soot generation. The results show that when the boiler heating power is constant, hydrogen mixing will increase the combustion temperature, accelerate the combustion rate, reduce flue gas and CO2 emission, increase the generation of water vapor, and inhibit the generation of NOx and soot. Under the premise of meeting the fuel interchangeability, it is concluded that the optimal hydrogen mixing volume fraction of gas boilers is 24.7%.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) has become the leading cause of end stage failure, but no renoprotective treatment has been very available for use in DN. Astragalus saponin I (AS I), a component extracted from Astragalus membranaceus BUNGE, was studied in experimental DN induced by administration of streptozotocin in male rats. The early DN rats were treated with 3 doses of AS I for 8 weeks to analyze its efficacy with different parameters. By comparison with vehicle-treated DN rats, the renal hypertrophy, the oxidative stress intensity, and the blood glucose level of DN rats were ameliorated by AS I. Also, the microalbuminuria level, advanced glycated end-products either in serum or in kidney cortex, and the aldose reductase activity were significantly reduced. Furthermore, the expression of transforming growth factor β1 mRNA in kidney cortex by RT-PCR analysis was markedly declined. Both the relative grade of mesangium hyperplasia by microscopical observation and the thickness of glomerular base membrane by electron microscope measurement were decreased significantly. Therefore, the results suggest that AS I has therapeutic effects on several pharmacological targets in the progress of DN and is a potential drug for prevention of early stage DN. A new series of Ba-Co-Operovskite-type oxygen carriers has been successfully synthesized by the microwave-assisted sol-gel method and further applied for producing an O2/CO2 mixture gas. The oxygen adsorption/desorption performance of synthesized samples was studied in a fixed-bed reactor system. Effects of A/B-site substitution on the oxygen desorption performance of Ba-Co-O–based perovskites are also included. Furthermore, the effects of operating conditions including the adsorption time and temperature as well as the desorption temperature on oxygen production performance were investigated in detail. The results indicated that BaCoO3-δ exhibited an excellent oxygen desorption performance among the synthesized A/B-site–substituted ACoO3-δ and BaBO3-δ samples, and that the optimal adsorption time, adsorption temperature and desorption temperatureforBaCoO3-δ were determined to be 20min, 850◦Cand850◦C, respectively, in this study.
