Abstract

Disclinations are ubiquitous lattice defects existing in almost all crystalline materials. In two-dimensional nanomaterials, disclinations lead to the warping and deformation of the hosting material, yielding non-Euclidean geometries. However, such geometries have never been investigated experimentally in the context of topological phenomena. Here, by creating the physical realization of disclinations in conical and saddle-shaped acoustic systems, we demonstrate that disclinations can lead to topologically protected bound modes in non-Euclidean surfaces. In the designed honeycomb sonic crystal for p-orbital acoustic waves, non-Euclidean geometry interplay with the p-orbital physics and the band topology, showing intriguing emergent features as confirmed by consistent experiments and simulations. Abstract

In this paper, we devise a pentamode metamaterial plate exhibiting topological characteristics. By organizing pentamode metamaterial structural elements, topological boundary states are attained, effectively safeguarding propagation of elastic waves. Moreover, based on the numerical simulation model, we employ a polymer to fabricate a macro-scale specimen via additive manufacturing. Through assessing the vibrational response of the sample, we corroborate its topological attributes in governing elastic wave transmission. This discovery paves the way for a novel approach to manipulating acoustic/elastic waves employing pentamode metamaterials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Objectives: Peptic ulcer is the most common source of non-variceal bleeding. However, it remains controversial whether the outcomes of cirrhotic patients with peptic ulcer bleeding differ from those with variceal bleeding. Methods: Cirrhotic patients with acute gastrointestinal bleeding (AGIB) who underwent endoscopy and had an identifiable source of bleeding were retrospectively screened from an international multicenter cohort. Logistic regression analyses were performed to explore the impact of peptic ulcer bleeding on in-hospital death and 5-day failure to control bleeding. Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was performed by matching age, gender, Child-Pugh score, and model for end-stage liver disease score between the peptic ulcer bleeding and variceal bleeding groups. Results: Overall, 1535 patients were included, of whom 73 (4.7%) had peptic ulcer bleeding. Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that peptic ulcer bleeding was not independently associated with in-hospital death (OR = 2.169, p = 0.126) or 5-day failure to control bleeding (OR = 1.230, p = 0.680). PSM analyses demonstrated that both in-hospital mortality (9.7% vs. 6.3%, p = 0.376) and rate of 5-day failure to control bleeding (6.9% vs. 5.4%, p = 0.787) were not significantly different between the two groups. Conclusions: The impact of peptic ulcer bleeding on the in-hospital outcomes of cirrhotic patients is similar to that of variceal bleeding. We found that only a minority of AGIB episodes in cirrhotic patients was attributed to peptic ulcer. Abstract

In this paper, a novel through mold via (TMV)-embedded fan-out wafer-level package (FOWLP) technology was demonstrated to manufacture the well-designed Antenna in Package (AiP) with ultrathin thickness (0.04 λ0). Double-sided redistribution layers (RDLs) were employed to build the patch antenna, while a TMV interposer was used to connect the front and back RDLs. By optimizing the AiP's parameters, the patch antenna can achieve a wide impedance bandwidth of 17.8% from 24.2 to 28.5 GHz, which can cover the 5G frequency bands. Compared with previous works, the proposed AiP has significant benefits in terms of its ultralow profile, easy processing, and high gain. Hence, the TMV-embedded FOWLP should be a promising technology for fifth generation (5G) millimeter wave (mm-Wave) applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Inflammatory response and oxidative stress are considered to be important mechanisms of lung injury induced by lunar dust. However, the pulmonary toxicological mechanism remains unclear. In the present study, Wistar rats were exposed to CLDS‐i 7 days/week, 4 h/day, for 4 weeks in the mouth and nose. Lung tissue samples were collected for histopathological analysis and ultra‐performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis. Enzyme activities and expression levels of key metabolic enzymes were detected by biochemical analysis and real‐time PCR. The pathological features of lung tissue showed that CLDS‐i caused congestion and inflammation in the lungs, and the lung structure was severely damaged. Metabolomics analysis showed that 141 metabolites were significantly changed in the lung tissue of the CLDS‐i group compared with the control group. Combined with Kegg pathway analysis, it was found that the changes of amino acid metabolites were involved in these pathways, indicating that the simulated lunar dust exposure had the most obvious effect on amino acid metabolism in the lung tissue of rats. Real‐time PCR analysis showed that the mRNA expression of six key enzymes related to amino acid metabolism was changed, and the enzyme activities of these key enzymes were also changed, which were consistent with the results of qPCR. These results suggest that changes in amino acid metabolism may be closely related to the pathogenesis of lung injury induced by lunar dust, and amino acid metabolism may be a potential biomarker of lung diseases related to lunar dust exposure.
