Hyaluronidase has been emerging as a potential target for cancer treatment. Herein, the anticancer effects against A549 NSCLC cells and hyaluronidase inhibitory activity of the ethanol extract of Xenostegia tridentata (L.) D.F. Austin & Staples and its subfractions were investigated. In correlation with their hyaluronidase inhibition, the hexane subfraction exhibited the most potent cytotoxicity, and the ethyl acetate subfraction could significantly inhibit the cancer cell migration. The hexane and ethyl acetate fractions were then further isolated to identify the active compounds responsible for the anticancer and hyaluronidase inhibitory activities. Among the 10 isolated compounds, lutein (5), a previously reported anti-lung cancer agent, showed the strongest inhibition on hyaluronidase enzyme activity. Its anticancer activities were validated. Notably, in addition to demonstrating the potential of X. tridentata extract for NSCLC treatment, this study discloses that hyaluronidase is a potential target for the anticancer activities of lutein. The cellular mechanisms underlying the hyaluronidase inhibitory activity of X. tridentata extract need to be further explored to fully understand how this inhibition contributes to its anti-cancer effects. Diverse microorganisms from the three domains of life (Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukaryota) cause deterioration in mural paintings worldwide; however, few studies have simultaneously targeted these three domains. This study aims to survey the microbiome and its potential for biodeterioration on unpreserved Lan Na mural paintings in Sean Khan temple, Chiang Mai, Thailand. The overview of the archaeal, bacterial, and fungal communities was reported by Illumina sequencing, whereas the potential for deterioration was revealed by culturable techniques and a literature search. The abundant microbes reported in this study were also found in other ancient mural paintings worldwide. Halococcus, a salt-tolerant archaeon, as well as the eubacterial genus Crossiella dominated the prokaryotic community. On the other hand, the main fungal group was the genus Candida (Ascomycota). However, a low number of fungi and bacteria were isolated. Most of the isolates showed the ability to survive in the drought conditions of mural paintings but could not perform discoloration activities. The deterioration activity mainly affected calcium compounds, which are the main components of painting substrates. Aspergillus and several bacterial isolates could dissolve calcium compounds, but only Trichaptum species could induce crystal formation. These results suggest that deterioration of painting substrate should be taken into consideration in addition to deterioration of color in mural paintings. For the Lan Na painting in Sean Khan temple, the plaster is the prime target for biodeterioration, and thus we suggest that the preservation effort should focus on this component of the mural painting. The divergent synthesis of two different classes of azole derivatives using 5-amino-substituted 2-methoxy-1,3,4-oxadiazoles as common substrates is reported. Depending on the reaction time and temperature, alkylation of oxadiazoles with excess alkyl halides proceeds with high regioselectivity toward 1,3,4-oxadiazolones and 1,2,4-triazolidine-3,5-diones. This operationally simple protocol enables rapid access to a diverse set of isomeric azoles using minimum synthetic steps and easily accessible oxadiazole key precursors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Indoloquinazolines functionalized at C-12, which are structural analogs of the natural alkaloid cephalanthrin B, are readily constructed via Ph3 P/I2-mediated one-pot reactions of isatins with aromatic alcohols. In the presence of excess phenols, the C-12 aryloxy ester products are obtained in moderate to good yields under mild conditions. Moreover, fused bicyclic hydroxyaryl derivatives such as 8-hydroxyquinoline give rise to novel C-12 spiro-γ-lactone derivatives. A reactive iminium cation species derived from dehydration of the C-12 hydroxy ester precursor is proposed as the transient intermediate responsible for these transformations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A three-dimensional coordination polymer, poly[hexaaqua(μ4-glutarato)bis(μ3-sulfato)dineodymium(III)], [Nd2(glutarato)(SO4)2(H2O)6]n (glutarato2- = C5H6O42-), 1, consisting of cationic {Nd2(H2O)6(SO4)2}n2n+ layers linked by bridging glutarate ligands, was synthesized by the microwave-heating technique within few minutes. The crystal structure of 1 consists of two crystallographically independent TPRS-{NdIIIO9} (TPRS is tricapped trigonal-prismatic geometry) units that form an edge-sharing dinuclear cluster interconnected to neighbouring dimers by the μ3-SO42- anions, yielding a cationic two-dimensional {Nd2(H2O)6(SO4)2}n2n+ sheet. Adjacent cationic layers are then linked via the μ4-glutarato2- ligands into a three-dimensional coordination network. The Ph3P-I2-mediated reactions between isatins and amines were extensively investigated leading to the discovery of highly selective and divergent routes toward the synthesis of two distinct classes of indole-based frameworks. Through a strategic design of the reaction paths, we overcome potential side reactions to achieve convenient and straightforward one-pot methods to access either indoloquinazolines with C-12 carboxamide or 2-aminosubstituted indol-3-ones using the same reagent system. Mechanistic studies reveal the role of Ph3P-I2 in governing product selectivity, providing an efficient route to novel fused-indolone derivatives with promising applications in drug discovery and medicinal chemistry., (© 2025 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

The first phytochemical investigation of the twig extract of Uvaria leptopoda resulted in the isolation and identification of three new tetrahydroxanthene-1,3(2 H )-diones, uvarialeptones A-C, two new oxidized hexadiene derivatives, uvarialeptols A and B, together with ten known compounds. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic techniques and mass spectrometry. Uvarialeptones A and B were unprecedented tetrahydroxanthene-1,3(2 H )-dione dimers which exhibited a cyclobutane ring via [2 + 2] cycloaddition from uvarialeptone C and 9a- O -methyloxymitrone, respectively. The structure of uvarialeptone A was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis using Mo Kα radiation. Compound 3 inhibited NO production at an IC 50 value of 6.7 ± 0.1 μM.

An atom- and step-economic synthesis of aryliminophosphoranes bearing ortho urea was achieved via unprecedented Ph 3 P-I 2 mediated ring-opening of 1,3-dihydro-1 H -benzimidazol-2-ones with secondary amines. Tandem aza-Wittig/heterocyclization of the functionalized aryliminophosphoranes upon treatment with isothiocyanates enables a facile access to a single regioisomer of N 1 -substituted 2-aminobenzimidazoles as well as fused tetracyclic quinazolinone derivatives in one-pot. 31 P{ 1 H} NMR studies suggested that the urea C-N bond of benzimidazolone is weakened by N -phosphorylation, leading to aminolysis rather than the expected deoxygenative amination.

Instead of the expected substituted 2-aminobenzo[ d ]oxazoles, relatively stable ring-opened oxyphosphonium betaines were isolated for the first time from the Ph 3 P-I 2 -mediated reactions of benzo[ d ]oxazol-2(3 H )-ones with acyclic secondary amines. The structure of one of these compounds was unambiguously confirmed by single-crystal X-ray analysis. Thermolysis of the betaines gave rise to 2-dialkylaminobenzoxazoles with concomitant loss of triphenylphosphine oxide, suggesting their possible role as intermediates in an alternative reaction path.

New alternative chiral derivatizing agents, β-keto-anthracene adducts (KAAs), were accomplished and the influence of aromatic moieties at the α-carbon position for elucidation of the absolute configuration of chiral secondary alcohols via NMR was studied. The α-benzoyl substituted KAAs strongly enhance the anisotropic effect which produced greater ΔδRS values than other conventional reagents. We propose a simplified model to describe the conformations and to assign the absolute configuration in several chiral alcohol samples.
