Abstract. Bacterial outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) are diminutive vesicles naturally released by Gram-negative bacteria. These vesicles possess distinctive characteristics that attract attention for their potential use in drug administration and immunotherapy in cancer treatment. Therapeutic medicines may be delivered via OMVs directly to the tumor sites, thereby minimizing exposure to healthy cells and lowering the risk of systemic toxicity. Furthermore, the activation of the immune system by OMVs has been demonstrated to facilitate the recognition and elimination of cancer cells, which makes them a desirable tool for immunotherapy. They can also be genetically modified to carry specific antigens, immunomodulatory compounds, and small interfering RNAs, enhancing the immune response to cancerous cells and silencing genes associated with disease progression. Combining OMVs with other cancer treatments like chemotherapy and radiation has shown promising synergistic effects. This review highlights the crucial role of bacterial OMVs in cancer, emphasizing their potential as vectors for novel cancer targeted therapies. As researchers delve deeper into the complexities of these vesicles and their interactions with tumors, there is a growing sense of optimism that this avenue of study will bring positive outcomes and renewed hope to cancer patients in the foreseeable future.

Using four waves of panel data from the China Labor-force Dynamic Survey (CLDS) spanning from 2012 to 2018, regarding gradual reforms of the Integrated Medical Insurance Scheme (IMIS) in China as a quasi-experiment, we establish a time-varying difference-in-differences (DID) model to systematically examine the impact of IMIS on the happiness of returning migrant workers. Further, a structural equation model is employed to explore the potential mechanisms and analyze the heterogeneity of the effect. The results indicate that IMIS significantly enhances the happiness of returning migrant workers, which remains robust after a series of robustness checks. In addition, this effect operates through two potential mechanisms, economic effects and integration effects, which account for 25.59 and 29.31% of the total effect, respectively. Compared to the older generation, low-income, low-health human capital, and high-reimbursement level regions, the enhancement of happiness due to IMIS is more pronounced among the new generation, high-income, high-health human capital, and low-reimbursement level regions of returning migrant worker, which might exhibit a “pro-wealth” characteristic. The findings provide empirical support and policy implications for continuously improving the health insurance system, promoting the equalization of basic public services between urban and rural areas, and consistently enhancing the happiness of returning migrant workers.

Abstract High-resolution integration of large-scale and long-term anthropogenic nutrient discharge data is crucial for understanding the spatiotemporal evolution of pollution and identifying intervention points for pollution mitigation. Here, we establish the MEANS-ST1.0 dataset, which has a high spatiotemporal resolution and encompasses anthropogenic nutrient discharge data collected in China from 1980 to 2020. The dataset includes five components, namely, urban residential, rural residential, industrial, crop farming, and livestock farming, with a spatial resolution of 1 km and a temporal resolution of monthly. The data are available in three formats, namely, GeoTIFF, NetCDF and Excel, catering to GIS users, researchers and policymakers in various application scenarios, such as visualization and modelling. Additionally, rigorous quality control was performed on the dataset, and its reliability was confirmed through cross-scale validation and literature comparisons at the national and regional levels. These data offer valuable insights for further modelling the interactions between humans and the environment and the construction of a digital Earth.

Vaginal microbiota transplantation (VMT) is a cutting-edge treatment modality that has the potential to revolutionize the management of vaginal disorders. The human vagina is a complex and dynamic ecosystem home to a diverse community of microorganisms. These microorganisms play a crucial role in maintaining the health and well-being of the female reproductive system. However, when the balance of this ecosystem is disrupted, it can lead to the development of various vaginal disorders. Conventional treatments, such as antibiotics and antifungal medications, can temporarily relieve the symptoms of vaginal disorders. However, they often fail to address the underlying cause of the problem, which is the disruption of the vaginal microbiota. In recent years, VMT has emerged as a promising therapeutic approach that aims to restore the balance of the vaginal ecosystem. Several studies have demonstrated the safety and efficacy of VMT in treating bacterial vaginosis, recurrent yeast infections, and other vaginal conditions. The procedure has also shown promising results in reducing the risk of sexually transmitted infections and preterm birth in pregnant women. However, more research is needed to establish optimal donor selection, preparation, and screening protocols, as well as long-term safety and efficacy. VMT offers a safe, effective, and minimally invasive treatment option for women with persistent vaginal problems. It could improve the quality of life for millions of women worldwide and become a standard treatment option shortly. With further research and development, it could potentially treat a wide range of other health problems beyond the scope of vaginal disorders.

Sparganosis is a rare parasitic infection caused by plerocercoid tapeworm larvae. We described a case of a 27-year-old man presenting with numbness in both legs and masses in the right lung and spine, initially thought to have spinal metastasis from lung cancer. However, after pathological and parasitological examinations, the patient was found to have spinal sparganosis, likely due to a history of consuming raw frogs. The patient was successfully treated with praziquantel, resulting in the recovery of muscle strength in his legs. This case highlights the importance of considering spinal sparganosis as a differential diagnosis in patients with spinal masses, especially those with a history of consuming raw or undercooked frogs. Accurate diagnosis and early treatment are crucial for managing this infection.

Bovine milk-derived exosomes (BMDEs) have emerged as a fruitful area of investigation in age-related disease therapeutics. Through the utilization of BMDEs, researchers possess the capacity to unveil novel treatments and therapeutic interventions that have the potential to enhance the quality of life for elderly individuals across the globe. Studies have provided evidence of the efficacy of BMDEs in facilitating the regenerative processes of bone and cartilage, thus establishing their potential as a viable therapeutic avenue for addressing conditions like osteoarthritis. Although BMDEs show promise as a prospective research route for tackling age-related illnesses, including Parkinson's disease, osteoporosis, and skin rejuvenation, other unanswered questions still demand more exploration. Concerns have been raised regarding the safety and efficacy of BMDEs, especially regarding their human administration, and researchers must carefully examine these concerns to identify alternatives. In conclusion, BMDEs are an area ripe for investigation into the prevention and treatment of age-related diseases.

The essential step of abstraction-based control synthesis for nonlinear systems to satisfy a given specification is to obtain a finite-state abstraction of the original systems. The complexity of the abstraction is usually the dominating factor that determines the efficiency of the algorithm. For the control synthesis of discrete-time nonlinear stochastic systems modelled by nonlinear stochastic difference equations, recent literature has demonstrated the soundness of abstractions in preserving robust probabilistic satisfaction of $\omega$-regular linear-time properties. However, unnecessary transitions exist within the abstractions, which are difficult to quantify, and the completeness of abstraction-based control synthesis in the stochastic setting remains an open theoretical question. In this article, we address this fundamental question from the topological view of metrizable space of probability measures, and propose constructive finite-state abstractions for control synthesis of probabilistic linear temporal specifications. Such abstractions are both sound and approximately complete. That is, given a concrete discrete-time stochastic system and an arbitrarily small $\mathcal{L}^{1}$-perturbation of this system, there exists a family of finite-state controlled Markov chains that both abstracts the concrete system and is abstracted by the slightly perturbed system. In other words, given an arbitrarily small prescribed precision, an abstraction always exists to decide whether a control strategy exists for the concrete system to satisfy the probabilistic specification.

Malignant gliomas occur more often in adults and may affect any part of the central nervous system (CNS). Although their results could be better, surgical excision, postoperative radiation and chemotherapy, and electric field therapy are today’s mainstays of glioma care. However, bacteria can also exert anti-tumor effects via mechanisms such as immune regulation and bacterial toxins to promote apoptosis, inhibit angiogenesis, and rely on their natural characteristics to target the tumor microenvironment of hypoxia, low pH, high permeability, and immunosuppression. Tumor-targeted bacteria expressing anticancer medications will go to the cancer site, colonize the tumor, and then produce the therapeutic chemicals that kill the cancer cells. Targeting bacteria in cancer treatment has promising prospects. Rapid advances have been made in the study of bacterial treatment of tumors, including using bacterial outer membrane vesicles to load chemotherapy drugs or combine with nanomaterials to fight tumors, as well as the emergence of bacteria combined with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and photothermal/photodynamic therapy. In this study, we look back at the previous years of research on bacteria-mediated glioma treatment and move forward to where we think it is headed.

Abstract Background Lung adenocarcinoma accounts for approximately 40% of all primary lung cancers; however, the mortality rates remain high. Successfully predicting progression and overall (OS) time will provide clinicians with more options to manage this disease. Methods We analyzed RNA sequencing data from 510 cases of lung adenocarcinoma from The Cancer Genome Atlas database using CIBERSORT, ImmuCellAI, and ESTIMATE algorithms. Through these data we constructed 6 immune subtypes and then compared the difference of OS, immune infiltration level and gene expression between these immune subtypes. Also, all the subtypes and immune cells infiltration level were used to evaluate the relationship with prognosis and we introduced lasso-cox method to constructe an immune-related prognosis model. Finally we validated this model in another independent cohort. Results The C3 immune subtype of lung adenocarcinoma exhibited longer survival, whereas the C1 subtype was associated with a higher mutation rate of MUC17 and FLG genes compared with other subtypes. A multifactorial correlation analysis revealed that immune cell infiltration was closely associated with overall survival. Using data from 510 cases, we constructed a nomogram prediction model composed of clinicopathologic factors and immune signatures. This model produced a C-index of 0.73 and achieved a C-index of 0.844 using a validation set. Conclusions Through this study we constructed an immune related prognosis model to instruct lung adenocarcinoma’s OS and validated its value in another independent cohost. These results will be useful in guiding treatment for lung adenocarcinoma based on tumor immune profiles.

Purpose: To analyze and review the progress of glucose metabolism-based molecular imaging in detecting tumors to guide clinicians for new management strategies.Summary: When metabolic abnormalities occur, termed the Warburg effect, it simultaneously enables excessive cell proliferation and inhibits cell apoptosis. Molecular imaging technology combines molecular biology and cell probe technology to visualize, characterize, and quantify processes at cellular and subcellular levels in vivo. Modern instruments, including molecular biochemistry, data processing, nanotechnology, and image processing, use molecular probes to perform real-time, non-invasive imaging of molecular and cellular events in living organisms.Conclusion: Molecular imaging is a non-invasive method for live detection, dynamic observation, and quantitative assessment of tumor glucose metabolism. It enables in-depth examination of the connection between the tumor microenvironment and tumor growth, providing a reliable assessment technique for scientific and clinical research. This new technique will facilitate the translation of fundamental research into clinical practice.

Unprecedented urbanization-induced population migration in China severely affects the scale and geographic distribution of anthropogenic pollutant discharge. Understanding how pollutant discharge patterns respond to population migration can help guide future efforts to maintain water sustainability. Here, based on a new calculation framework with 18 dynamic parameters designed for anthropogenic discharges, we finely tracked and visualized the effects of population migration on the spatial and temporal changes in anthropogenic discharge from 1980 to 2019 in the Minjiang River basin. The results indicate that the increasing effect of population migration on anthropogenic discharges peaked in 2002 and started to contribute to pollutant reduction from 2010 onward. The direct impact of population migration only contributes to the shift of anthropogenic discharges from rural to urban areas, while the migration bonus is the key factor leading to the reduction in anthropogenic discharges. Population migration is highly beneficial for chemical oxygen demand (COD) reduction, which has contributed to a shift from COD to NH4+-N and total phosphorus (TP) as hotspot pollutants in the whole basin (NH4+-N in urban areas and TP in rural areas). Moreover, pollution reduction resulting from the demographic bonus phenomenon has remained limited only to urban areas. Since approximately 2010, the per capita amount and total amount of anthropogenic pollutant discharges in rural areas have exceeded those in urban areas; in particular, the per capita COD and TP discharges in rural areas reached four times those in urban areas. This suggests that future pollution control strategies should give more attention to rural areas and focus on the differentiation and targeting of urban and rural areas.

As a new programmed cell death process, ferroptosis has shown great potential and uniqueness in experimental and treatment-resistant cancer models. Currently, the main tools for drug research targeting ferroptosis are tumor cells cultured in vitro and tumor models established in rodents. In contrast, increasing evidence indicates that reactivity may differ from modifications in mice or humans in the process of drug screening. With the blossoming of 3D culture technology, tumor organoid culture technology has gradually been utilized. Compared with traditional 2D culture and tumor tissue xenotransplantation, tumor organoids have a significantly higher success rate. They can be cultured quickly and at a lower cost, which is convenient for gene modification and large-scale drug screening. Thus, combining 3D cell culture technology, drug monitoring, and ferroptosis analysis is necessary to develop the impact of ferroptosis-related agents in tumor treatment.

Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common visceral neoplasms with its heterogeneity and high rate of recurrence. HCC is characterized to be delayed diagnosis and the development of resistant disease. However, the molecular mechanism for HCC pathogenesis and progression remains largely unknown. Here, we demonstrated that ubiquitin-specific protease14 (USP14) is highly expressed in HCC samples, and the higher expression of USP14 is positively correlated with poor prognosis. Interestingly, USP14 is involved in the maintenance of HIF1-α stability to activate HIF1-α-induced transactivation via its deubiquitinase activity. USP14 depletion or its specific inhibitor IU1 treatment decreased cell proliferation, invasion, migration, and Vascular Mimicry (VM) formation even under hypoxia conditions in HCC cell lines. Moreover, we provided the evidence to show that knockdown of USP14 or USP14 inhibitor (IU1) treatment inhibited tumor growth in tumor-bearing nude mice. Our findings suggest that USP14 maintains HIF1-α stability through its deubiquitination activity, providing a potential biomarker for the early diagnosis and therapy of HCC.

The availability of limiting nutrients plays a crucial role in shaping communities of endophytes. Moreover, whether fungal endophytes are host-specific remains controversial. We hypothesized that in a harsh and nitrogen (N)-deficient area, diversity and community composition of foliar endophytic fungi (FEFs) varied substantially among plots with experimentally elevated levels of macronutrients, and thus, N availability, instead of host species identity, would have a greater influence in structuring fungal communities at different scales. We also expected an important subset of taxa shared among numerous host species and N gradients to form a community-wide core microbiome. We measured the leaf functional traits and community structures of FEFs of three commonly seen species in an alpine meadow nested with a long-term N fertilization experiment. We found that host plant identity was a powerful factor driving the endophytic fungal community in leaves, even in habitats where productivity was strongly limited by nitrogen (p < 0.001). We also found that within the same host, nitrogen was an important driving force for the composition of the endophytic fungi community (p < 0.05). In addition, the leaf carbon content was the most important functional trait that limited the diversity of endophytic fungi (p < 0.001). Finally, we documented a distinct core microbiome shared among our three focal species and N gradients.

Accumulating evidence has implicated members of the procollagen-lysine, 2-oxoglutarate 5-dioxygenase (PLOD) gene family, PLOD1, PLOD2, and PLOD3, in cancer progression and metastasis. However, their expression, prognostic value, and mechanisms underlying their roles in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) have not yet been reported. We downloaded PLOD data for LUAD and normal tissues from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). PLOD1-3 protein expression was evaluated using the Clinical Proteomics Tumor Analysis Consortium and Human Protein Atlas. Survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan–Meier method. A protein–protein interaction network was constructed using STRING software. The “ClusterProfiler” package was used for functional-enrichment analysis. The relationship between PLOD mRNA expression and immune infiltration was analyzed using the Tumor Immunity Assessment Resource and Tumor Immune System Interaction Database. The expression of PLODs in LUAD tissues was significantly upregulated compared with that in adjacent normal tissues. PLOD mRNA overexpression is associated with lymph node metastasis and high TNM staging. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that when the cut-off level was 6.073, the accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of PLOD1 in distinguishing LUAD from adjacent controls were 84.4, 79.7, and 82.6%, respectively. The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of PLOD2 in distinguishing LUAD from adjacent controls were 81.0, 98.3, and 68.0%, respectively, at a cut-off value of 4.360. The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of PLOD3 in distinguishing LUAD from adjacent controls were 69.0, 86.4, and 52.0%, respectively, with a cut-off value of 5.499. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis demonstrated that LUAD patients with high PLODs had a worse prognosis than those with low PLODs. Correlation analysis showed that PLOD mRNA expression was related to immune infiltration and tumor purity. Upregulation of PLOD expression was significantly associated with poor survival and immune cell infiltration in LUAD. Our research shows that PLOD family members have potential as novel biomarkers for poor prognosis and as potential immunotherapy targets for LUAD.

The new coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is an emerging pathogen that can cause severe respiratory infections in humans. It is worth noting that many of the affected COVID-19 patients have malignant tumors. In addition, cancer has been identified as a personal risk factor for COVID-19. Transmembrane proteaseserine-2 (TMPRSS2) is a crucial host protease that mediates S protein activation and initially promotes virus entry into host cells. Moreover, it is abnormally expressed in a variety of tumors. However, the systematic analysis of TMPRSS2 aberrations in human cancer remains to be elucidated. Here, we analyzed the genetic changes, RNA expression, and DNA methylation of TMPRSS2 in more than 30 tumors. It has been reported that TMPRSS2 is overexpressed in tumors such as prostate adenocarcinoma (PRAD), and in contrast, the expression of TMPRSS2 is decreased in tumors such as head and neck cancer (HNSC). In addition, TMPRSS2 low DNA methylation was also found in most of these TMPRSS2 high-expressing tumors in this study. Clinical studies have found that there is a significant correlation between the expression of TMPRSS2 and the prognosis of some tumor patients. The expression of TMPRSS2 is also related to the infiltration of cancer-related fibroblasts, and the potential pathways and functional mechanisms were analyzed through KEGG/GO enrichment. In the end, our study planned the genetic and epigenetic variation of TMPRSS2 in human malignant tumors for the first time and provided a relatively comprehensive understanding of the carcinogenic effects of TMPRSS2.

Drought stress is an alarming constraint to plant growth, development, and productivity worldwide. However, plant-associated bacteria, fungi, and viruses can enhance stress resistance and cope with the negative impacts of drought through the induction of various mechanisms, which involve plant biochemical and physiological changes. These mechanisms include osmotic adjustment, antioxidant enzyme enhancement, modification in phytohormonal levels, biofilm production, increased water and nutrient uptake as well as increased gas exchange and water use efficiency. Production of microbial volatile organic compounds (mVOCs) and induction of stress-responsive genes by microbes also play a crucial role in the acquisition of drought tolerance. This review offers a unique exploration of the role of plant-associated microorganisms—plant growth promoting rhizobacteria and mycorrhizae, viruses, and their interactions—in the plant microbiome (or phytobiome) as a whole and their modes of action that mitigate plant drought stress.

As the main road type in an urban traffic system, the increasingly severe congestion of the expressway restricts social and economic development. It is essential to explore the evolution law of congestion and dissipation to ensure the efficient operation of the expressway. In order to accurately grasp the evolution law of the expressway traffic flow state, this paper selects the expressway weaving section, which is a traffic flow frequency-changing area, to study the traffic operation state, change process, and evolution law, and determine the traffic state discrimination standard. The simulation analysis was carried out using the traffic simulation platform, Vissim software. The simulation results showed an apparent catastrophe phenomenon in the mutual transformation between free and congestion flow. The spectral clustering analysis algorithm was used to accurately extract the boundary of traffic state mutation, combined with the cusp catastrophe theory, to study and analyze the traffic flow state at different times and positions, thus completely displaying the evolution characteristics of traffic flow state. The research results provide an essential theoretical basis for formulating control measures of expressway traffic flow and strategies for traffic congestion dissipation.

The putamen (Put) is necessary for habitual actions, while the nucleus caudate (Cd) is critical for goal-directed actions. However, compared with the natural reward (such as sucrose)-seeking habit, how drug-related dysfunction or imbalance between the Put and Cd is involved in cocaine-seeking habit, which is not easy to bias behavior to goal-directed actions, is absent. Therefore, in our present study, in comparison with sucrose-habitual behavior, we evaluated the distinctive changes of the two subtypes of dopamine (DA) receptors (D1R and D2R) in cocaine-seeking habitual behavior animals. Moreover, the adaptive changes of Cav1.2 and Cav1.3, as prime downstream targets of D1R and D2R respectively, were also assessed. Our results showed that a similar percentage of the animals exhibited habitual seeking behavior after cocaine or sucrose variable-interval self-administration (SA) training in tree shrews. In addition, compared with animals with non-habitual behavior, animals with cocaine habitual behavior showed higher D1Rs and Cav1.2 expression in the Put accompanied with lower D2Rs and Cav1.3 expression in the Cd. However, after sucrose SA training, animals with habitual behavior only showed lower membrane expression of D2R in the Put than animals with non-habitual behavior. These results suggested that the upregulation of D1Rs-Cav1.2 signaling may lead to hyper-excitability of the Put, and the inactivation of D2Rs-Cav1.3 signaling may result in depressed activity in the Cd. This imbalance function between the Put and Cd, which causes an inability to shift between habits and goal-directed actions, may underlie the compulsive addiction habit.

Cell-based immunotherapy using natural killer (NK) cells, cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells and dendritic cells (DCs) is emerging as a potential novel approach in the auxiliary treatment of a tumor. However, non-standard operation procedure, small-scale cell number, or human error may limit the clinical development of cell-based immunotherapy. To simplify clinical scale NK cells, CIK cells and DCs expansions, we investigated the use of the WAVE bioreactor, a closed system bioreactor that utilizes active perfusion to generate high cell numbers in minimal volumes. We developed an optimized rapid expansion protocol for the WAVE bioreactor that produces clinically relevant number of cells for our adoptive cell transfer clinical protocols. The high proliferative rate, surface phenotypes, and cytotoxicity of these immune cells, as well as the safety of cultivation were analyzed to illuminate the effect of WAVE bioreactor. The results demonstrated that the benefit of utilizing modern WAVE bioreactors in cancer immunotherapy was simple, safe, and flexible production.

Cell-based immunotherapy holds promise in the quest for the treatment of cancer, having potential synergy with surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. As a novel approach for adoptive cell-based immunotherapy, cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells have moved from the ‘bench to bedside’. CIK cells are a heterogeneous subset of ex-vitro expanded, polyclonal T-effector cells with both natural killer (NK) and T-cell properties, which present potent non-major histocompatibility complex-restricted cytotoxicity against a variety of tumor target cells. Initial clinical studies on CIK cell therapy have provided encouraging results and revealed synergistic antitumor effects when combined with standard therapeutic procedures. At the same time, issues such as inadequate quality control and quantity of CIK cells as well as exaggerated propaganda were continuously emerging. Thus, the Ministry of Health in China stopped CIK cell therapy in May 2016, which was a major setback for the innovation of CIK cell-based immunotherapy. Thus, it is very important to modify technical criteria to develop a standardized operation procedure (SOP) and standardized system for evaluating antitumor efficacy in a safe way.

The anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties of human mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are a focus within regenerative medicine. However, 2D cultivation of MSCs for extended periods results in abnormal cell polarity, chromosomal changes, reduction in viability, and altered differentiation potential. As an alternative, various 3D hydrogels have been developed which mimic the endogenous niche of MSCs. Nevertheless, imaging cells embedded within 3D hydrogels often suffers from low signal-to-noise ratios which can be at least partly attributed to the high light absorbance and light scattering of the hydrogels in the visible light spectrum. In this study, human adipose tissue-derived MSCs (ADSCs) are cultivated within an anionic nanofibrillar cellulose (aNFC) hydrogel. It is demonstrated that aNFC forms nanofibres arranged as a porous network with low light absorbance in the visible spectrum. Moreover, it is shown that aNFC is cytocompatible, allowing for MSC proliferation, maintaining cell viability and multilineage differentiation potential. Finally, aNFC is compatible with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and light microscopy including the application of conventional dyes, fluorescent probes, indirect immunocytochemistry, and calcium imaging. Overall, the results indicate that aNFC represents a promising 3D material for the expansion of MSCs whilst allowing detailed examination of cell morphology and cellular behaviour.

Herein, a feasible and effective approach is developed to build an electrically conductive and double percolation network-like structure via the incorporation of highly reduced graphene oxide (HRGO) into a polymer blend of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A/polyetherimide (DGEBA/PEI). With the assistance of the curing reaction-induced phase separation (CRIPS) technique, an interconnected network of HRGO is formed in the phase-separated structure of the DGEBA/PEI polymer blend due to selective localization behavior. In this study, HRGO was prepared from a unique chemical reduction technique. The DGEBA/PEI/HRGO nanocomposite was analyzed in terms of phase structure by content of PEI and low weight fractions of HRGO (0.5 wt.%). The HRGO delivered a high electrical conductivity in DGEBA/PEI polyblends, wherein the value increased from 5.03 × 10−16 S/m to 5.88 S/m at a low content of HRGO (0.5 wt.%). Furthermore, the HRGO accelerated the curing reaction process of CRIPS due to its amino group. Finally, dynamic mechanical analyses (DMA) were performed to understand the CRIPS phenomenon and selective localization of HRGO reinforcement. The storage modulus increased monotonically from 1536 MPa to 1660 MPa for the 25 phr (parts per hundred in the DGEBA) PEI polyblend and reached 1915 MPa with 0.5 wt.% HRGO reinforcement. These simultaneous improvements in electrical conductivity and dynamic mechanical properties clearly demonstrate the potential of this conductive polyblend for various engineering applications.

Deserts cover a significant proportion of the Earth’s surface and continue to expand as a consequence of climate change. Mutualistic arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi are functionally important plant root symbionts, and may be particularly important in drought stressed systems such as deserts. Here we provide a first molecular characterization of the AM fungi occurring in several desert ecosystems worldwide. We sequenced AM fungal DNA from soil samples collected from deserts in six different regions of the globe using the primer pair WANDA-AML2 with Illumina MiSeq. We recorded altogether 50 AM fungal phylotypes. Glomeraceae was the most common family, while Claroideoglomeraceae, Diversisporaceae and Acaulosporaceae were represented with lower frequency and abundance. The most diverse site, with 35 virtual taxa (VT), was in the Israeli Negev desert. Sites representing harsh conditions yielded relatively few reads and low richness estimates, for example, a Saudi Arabian desert site where only three Diversispora VT were recorded. The AM fungal taxa recorded in the desert soils are mostly geographically and ecologically widespread. However, in four sites out of six, communities comprised more desert-affiliated taxa (according to the MaarjAM database) than expected at random. AM fungal VT present in samples were phylogenetically clustered compared with the global taxon pool, suggesting that nonrandom assembly processes, notably habitat filtering, may have shaped desert fungal assemblages.

Their unique properties and versatile applications offer promising future research and development prospects in these fields. Despite the significant progress in our understanding, many unanswered questions and mysteries surround the mechanisms by which PDNVs function and their potential applications. There is a dire need for further extensive research to elucidate these mechanisms and explore the full potential of these fascinating vesicles. As the technology at our disposal advances and our understanding of PDNVs deepens, it is beyond doubt that PDNVs will continue to be a subject of intense research in anti-aging therapeutics. This comprehensive review is designed to delve into the fascinating and multifaceted world of PDNV-based research, particularly focusing on how these nanovesicles can be applied to anti-aging therapeutics.
