Purpose: To evaluate the possibility of suicide and related factors among individuals with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (BD). Method: Data were collected for 270 individuals registered in a community mental health center using the Suicide Probability Scale (SPS). Subsequently, t test and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted on independent samples. Results: There was no statistically significant difference found between mean SPS scores of participants with schizophrenia and BD. However, hostility subscale mean scores of participants with schizophrenia were higher than those of participants with BD, and the difference was statistically significant. Sex, family history of mental illness, need for help with medication, suicidal ideation in the past 10 days, and number of suicide attempts were important predictors of suicide probability. Conclusion: Individuals with schizophrenia and BD and in remission should be evaluated periodically for the possibility of suicide. Background: Nursing and midwifery students' perceptions and attitudes toward older adults affect their behaviours, career choices and/or the quality of care provided to older adults after graduation. This study aimed to evaluate the perceptions of second year nursing and midwifery students toward elderly people staying in nursing homes through metaphor analysis. Methods: This qualitative study has used the phenomenological approach. The sample of the study consisted of 128 nursing and midwifery students by purposive sampling method. Students were prompted to complete a sentence to express their perceptions about the elderly living in nursing homes: 'The elderly in the nursing home is similar to ... because ...' Participants were required to fill in their responses in two stages, providing metaphors in the first blank and reasons for their metaphors in the second blank. Results: The results indicated that five main themes and 12 sub‐themes were obtained from student metaphors: (i) needing help in meeting their needs (need for care and need for love); (ii) the emotional burden of a life away from loved ones (loneliness, abandonment, and helplessness); (iii) exhaustion at the end of the road (end, loss, and unproductive); (iv) holding on to life again (friendship and beginning); and (v) post‐traumatic growth (strong and experienced). Conclusion: Students should question how to create opportunities and increase interaction for the elderly in the age of changing and developing technology before graduation and should be trained as professional individuals who are willing for this purpose. Background: The frequency of dysmenorrhea is quite high in university students and it negatively affects their academic success and social life. There is no standard measurement tool to determine how to cope with dysmenorrhea in Turkey. Aim: It was aimed to develop a standardized scale to measure university students' coping skills with dysmenorrhea. Methodology: This methodological research was conducted with 316 nursing and midwifery students studying at a state university. Opinions of 12 experts were received for the draft scale created. Construct validity was determined by Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Cronbach's alpha coefficient, test-retest correlation coefficient, and Pearson correlation coefficient were used for reliability. Results: A six-factor structure consisting of 17 items, explaining 58.755% of the total variance, emerged: Factor 1 "Taking action", Factor 2 "Taking a rest", Factor 3 "Distraction", Factor 4 "Staying calm", Factor 5 "Seeking Medical Treatment," and Factor 6 "Relaxation." The Cronbach alpha coefficient of the scale was found to be 0.772 and the test-retest correlation coefficient was 0.807. Conclusions: The results obtained support that the "Coping with Dysmenorrhea Scale" is a valid and reliable measurement tool for university students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Online mindfulness-based intervention can improve the mental health of undergraduate nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aim: This study evaluated the effect of the mindfulness-based progressive muscle relaxation and breathing exercises program on physical and mental health, coping, and academic success. Methodology: A qualitative evaluation design with a purposive criterion sample (n = 97) was used to investigate the effect of mindfulness-based progressive muscle relaxation and breathing exercises on physical and mental health, coping, and academic success. Results: The mean age of the students was 22.15±1.14 (min=21, max=26), and 81.4% were female. Thematic analysis of students' experiences resulted in the identification of five categories: (a) dealing with negative emotions, (b) coping with physical symptoms, (c) building positive relationships, (d) managing stress, and (e) increasing academic success. Conclusion: The program increased nursing students' mental and physical health, improved their interpersonal relationships and coping strategies with stress and increased their learning and academic success. Background: Emergency service workers have essential responsibilities in determining risk factors for suicide attempts and the traumatizing effects of suicide attempts on the person and directing them for psychiatric treatment. Objective: This retrospective study aimed to determine the causes, demographic, and clinical characteristics of suicide attempts cases admitted to the emergency department. Methodology: This study evaluated the data of 689 cases admitted to the emergency department with a suicide attempt between January 2016 and December 2020 were evaluated retrospectively. The patients' sociodemographic characteristics, data on suicide incidence, and features of a suicide attempt were recorded. Categorical data were presented as frequency and percent. Results: Among the 689 cases screened, 52.4% were 20 years old and younger, 72.3% were female, and 56.0% were married. Of the cases, 70.2% were first-time suicide attempters, 78.5% received psychiatric treatment in the last six months, and 87.4% took medication. The most common cause of suicide attempts was family problems (38.7%). Conclusion: In cases of suicide admitted to the emergency department, psychiatric consultation should be requested, and they should be referred to psychiatry after discharge for psychiatric treatment.
