Oxide-dispersion-strengthened (ODS) reduced-activation ferritic/martensitic (RAFM) steels are considered as most promising structural materials for fusion reactors and other advanced nuclear systems due to its excellent irradiation resistance under high dose irradiations. However, the extreme complex synergistic effect between transmuted helium/hydrogen and displacement damage which most seriously affects the structure and mechanical properties of ODS-RAFM steels is very difficult to understand, especially the role of hydrogen still remains unclear. Taking advantage of very sensitive to small vacancy clusters of Positron annihilation spectroscopy (PAS) method, we conducted irradiation defect study on ODS-RAFM, RAFM and its corresponding model alloy Fe–9Cr and α-Fe to investigate their anti-swelling properties at the early stage of irradiation with hydrogen-helium synergism and the mechanism. Three distinct irradiation schemes including (1) single Fe ion beam, (2) simultaneous Fe and He (named Fe + He) ion beam, (3) subsequent H ion injection after Fe + He (named Fe + He/H) ion beam irradiation were performed. Hydrogen-helium synergistic effects on vacancy evolution within these steels were explored combining the first-principles calculation. The implantation of He was observed to significantly increase defect concentration among all four steels, while H exhibited interestingly complexity on affecting the evolution of helium bubbles. The H post-injection increased defect concentration obviously in the materials with abundant sinks, but improved poorly in ones with rare sinks. Through the systematic study of the interactions between H, He, and vacancies, it was revealed that even at the early irradiation stage, ODS-RAFM steels has already exhibited excellent irradiation resistance compared to other alloys across three irradiation schemes.

Lung cancer is a predominant cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide, necessitating precise tumor segmentation of medical images for accurate diagnosis and treatment. However, the intrinsic complexity and variability of tumor morphology pose substantial challenges to segmentation tasks. To address this issue, we propose a multitask connected U-Net model with a teacher-student framework to enhance the effectiveness of lung tumor segmentation. The proposed model and framework integrate PET knowledge into the segmentation process, leveraging complementary information from both CT and PET modalities to improve segmentation performance. Additionally, we implemented a tumor area detection method to enhance tumor segmentation performance. In extensive experiments on four datasets, the average Dice coefficient of 0.56, obtained using our model, surpassed those of existing methods such as Segformer (0.51), Transformer (0.50), and UctransNet (0.43). These findings validate the efficacy of the proposed method in lung tumor segmentation tasks.

Named entity recognition (NER) is a crucial step in extracting medical information from Chinese text, and fine-tuning large language models (LLMs) for this task is an effective approach. However, full parameter fine-tuning can potentially damage the model’s original parameters, resulting in catastrophic forgetting. To overcome this challenge, we introduce a novel adapter-based fine-tuning approach. Our adapter is integrated into the first and last transformers of the LLM, operating in parallel to the feed-forward network (FFN), following multi-head attention. It mirrors the FFN’s structure and uses the FFN’s weights for initializing. Additionally, to further enhance performance, we incorporate prefix embeddings into the first and last transformers. Our experiments on the Chinese medical NER benchmark demonstrate that our adapter, combined with prefix embeddings, achieves the highest F1-score of 65.90%, surpassing prompt templates (21.99%), in-context learning (18.65%), P-tuning (63.03%), and the benchmark for the Chinese medical NER task (62.40%). These results indicate that our adapter effectively fine-tunes the LLM for Chinese medical NER while preserving the original parameters.

Summary: A novel algorithm, AlphaMissense, has been shown to have an improved ability to predict the pathogenicity of rare missense genetic variants. However, it is not known whether AlphaMissense improves the ability of gene-based testing to identify disease-influencing genes. Using whole-exome sequencing data from the UK Biobank, we compared gene-based association analysis strategies including sets of deleterious variants: predicted loss-of-function (pLoF) variants only, pLoF plus AlphaMissense pathogenic variants, pLoF with missense variants predicted to be deleterious by any of five commonly utilized annotation methods (Missense (1/5)) or only variants predicted to be deleterious by all five methods (Missense (5/5)). We measured performance to identify 519 previously identified positive control genes, which can lead to Mendelian diseases, or are the targets of successfully developed medicines. These strategies identified 0.85 million pLoF variants and 5 million deleterious missense variants, including 22,131 likely pathogenic missense variants identified exclusively by AlphaMissense. Abstract The human leukocyte antigen (HLA) region on chromosome 6 is strongly associated with many immune-mediated and infection-related diseases. Due to its highly polymorphic nature and complex linkage disequilibrium patterns, traditional genetic association studies of single nucleotide polymorphisms do not perform well in this region. Instead, the field has adopted the assessment of the association of HLA alleles (i.e., entire HLA gene haplotypes) with disease. Often based on genotyping arrays, these association studies impute HLA alleles, decreasing accuracy and thus statistical power for rare alleles and in non-European ancestries. Here, we use whole-exome sequencing (WES) from 454,824 UK Biobank (UKB) participants to directly call HLA alleles using the HLA-HD algorithm. We show this method is more accurate than imputing HLA alleles and harness the improved statistical power to identify 360 associations for 11 auto-immune phenotypes (at least 129 likely novel), leading to better insights into the specific coding polymorphisms that underlie these diseases. We show that HLA alleles with synonymous variants, often overlooked in HLA studies, can significantly influence these phenotypes. Lastly, we show that HLA sequencing may improve polygenic risk scores accuracy across ancestries. These findings allow better characterization of the role of the HLA region in human disease.

BackgroundThe mechanism of Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+) metabolism-related genes (NMRGs) in diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is unclear. This study aimed to find new NMRGs biomarkers in DPN.MethodsDPN related datasets GSE95849 and GSE185011 were acquired from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. 51 NMRGs were collected from a previous article. To explore NMRGs expression in DPN and control samples, differential expression analysis was completed in GSE95849 to obtain differentially expressed genes (DEGs), and the intersection of DEGs and NMRGs was regarded as DE-NMRGs. Next, a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network based on DE-NMRGs was constructed and biomarkers were screened by eight algorithms. Additionally, Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) enrichment analysis was completed, biomarker-based column line graphs were constructed, lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA and competing endogenouse (ce) RNA networks were constructed, and drug prediction was completed. Finally, biomarkers expression validation was completed in GSE95849 and GSE185011.Results5217 DEGs were obtained from GSE95849 and 21 overlapping genes of DEGs and NMRGs were DE-NMRGs. Functional enrichment analysis revealed that DE-NMRGs were associated with glycosyl compound metabolic process. The PPI network contained 93 protein-interaction pairs and 21 nodes, with strong interactions between NMNAT1 and NAMPT, NADK and NMNAT3, ENPP3 and NUDT12 as biomarkers based on 8 algorithms. Expression validation suggested that ENPP3 and NUDT12 were upregulated in DPN samples (P < 0.05). Moreover, an alignment diagram with good diagnostic efficacy based on ENPP3 and NUDT12 were identified was constructed. GSEA suggested that ENPP3 was enriched in Toll like receptor (TLR) pathway, NUDT12 was enriched in maturity onset diabetes of the young and insulin pathway. Furthermore, 18 potential miRNAs and 36 Transcription factors (TFs) were predicted and the miRNA-mRNA-TF networks were constructed, suggesting that ENPP3 might regulate hsa-miR-34a-5p by affecting MYNN. The ceRNA network suggested that XLOC_013024 might regulate hsa-let-7b-5p by affecting NUDT12. 15 drugs were predicted, with 8 drugs affecting NUDT12 such as resveratrol, and 13 drugs affecting ENPP3 such as troglitazone.ConclusionENPP3 and NUDT12 might play key roles in DPN, which provides reference for further research on DPN.

BackgroundRadiomics have been increasingly used in the clinical management of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), such as markers prediction. Ki-67 and cytokeratin 19 (CK-19) are important prognostic markers of HCC. Radiomics has been introduced by many researchers in the prediction of these markers expression, but its diagnostic value remains controversial. Therefore, this review aims to assess the diagnostic value of radiomics in predicting Ki-67 and CK-19 expression in HCC.MethodsOriginal studies were systematically searched in PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science from inception to May 2023. All included studies were evaluated by the radiomics quality score. The C-index was used as the effect size of the performance of radiomics in predicting Ki-67and CK-19 expression, and the positive cutoff values of Ki-67 label index (LI) were determined by subgroup analysis and meta-regression.ResultsWe identified 34 eligible studies for Ki-67 (18 studies) and CK-19 (16 studies). The most common radiomics source was magnetic resonance imaging (MRI; 25/34). The pooled C-index of MRI-based models in predicting Ki-67 was 0.89 (95% CI:0.86–0.92) in the training set, and 0.87 (95% CI: 0.82–0.92) in the validation set. The pooled C-index of MRI-based models in predicting CK-19 was 0.86 (95% CI:0.81–0.90) in the training set, and 0.79 (95% CI: 0.73–0.84) in the validation set. Subgroup analysis suggested Ki-67 LI cutoff was a significant source of heterogeneity (I2 = 0.0% P>0.05), and meta-regression showed that the C-index increased as Ki-67 LI increased.ConclusionRadiomics shows promising diagnostic value in predicting positive Ki-67 or CK-19 expression. But lacks standardized guidelines, which makes the model and variables selection dependent on researcher experience, leading to study heterogeneity. This study was aimed at preparing chitosan (CS)-phenolic acids copolymers to obtain better preservation effect in marine products. In this work, CS was grafted onto phenolic acids such as gallic acid (GA) and protocatechuic acid (PA) by a carbodiimide coupling method. The copolymers (CS-grafted-GA (CS-g-GA) and CS-grafted-PA (CS-g-PA)) were further confirmed through physicochemical properties including ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectrophotography, fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) thermogram, rheological behaviour, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and antioxidant activity analysis. Subsequently, the effects of copolymers on preservation of refrigerated sea bass (Lateolabrax japonicus) fillets were investigated. The results showed that the CS-g-GA (110.82 mg GA/g) exhibited higher grafting rate than CS-g-PA (62.63 mg PA/g). According to the assessment of UV–Vis and FTIR spectrometry, both the GA and PA were grafted onto CS successfully. SEM analysis demonstrated that the microstructure of copolymers became irregular. Meanwhile, both the CS-g-GA and CS-g-PA copolymers displayed superior thermal stability, rheological properties and antioxidant capacity than the pure CS. Furthermore, the copolymers also revealed a significantly stronger preservation effect on sea bass fillets including inhibiting microbial growth and delaying the deterioration of color, texture and sensory quality. Therefore, CS-g-GA and CS-g-PA could be used as promising preservatives for seafood.

Abstract Predicting COVID-19 severity is difficult, and the biological pathways involved are not fully understood. To approach this problem, we measured 4701 circulating human protein abundances in two independent cohorts totaling 986 individuals. We then trained prediction models including protein abundances and clinical risk factors to predict COVID-19 severity in 417 subjects and tested these models in a separate cohort of 569 individuals. For severe COVID-19, a baseline model including age and sex provided an area under the receiver operator curve (AUC) of 65% in the test cohort. Selecting 92 proteins from the 4701 unique protein abundances improved the AUC to 88% in the training cohort, which remained relatively stable in the testing cohort at 86%, suggesting good generalizability. Proteins selected from different COVID-19 severity were enriched for cytokine and cytokine receptors, but more than half of the enriched pathways were not immune-related. Taken together, these findings suggest that circulating proteins measured at early stages of disease progression are reasonably accurate predictors of COVID-19 severity. Further research is needed to understand how to incorporate protein measurement into clinical care.

The problems of imbalanced datasets are generally considered asymmetric issues. In asymmetric problems, artificial intelligence models may exhibit different biases or preferences when dealing with different classes. In the process of addressing class imbalance learning problems, the classification model will pay too much attention to the majority class samples and cannot guarantee the classification performance of the minority class samples, which might be more valuable. By synthesizing the minority class samples and changing the data distribution, unbalanced datasets can be optimized. Traditional oversampling algorithms have problems of blindness and boundary ambiguity when synthesizing new samples. A modified reclassification algorithm based on Gaussian distribution is put forward. First, the minority class samples are reclassified by the KNN algorithm. Then, different synthesis strategies are selected according to the combination of the minority class samples, and the Gaussian distribution is used to replace the uniform random distribution for interpolation operation under certain classification conditions to reduce the possibility of generating noise samples. The experimental results indicate that the proposed oversampling algorithm can achieve a performance improvement of 2∼8% in evaluation metrics, including G-mean, F-measure, and AUC, compared to traditional oversampling algorithms.

Abstract Background We have previously shown that iatrogenic dehydration is associated with a shift to organic osmolyte production in the general ICU population. The aim of the present investigation was to determine the validity of the physiological response to dehydration known as aestivation and its relevance for long-term disease outcome in COVID-19. Methods The study includes 374 COVID-19 patients from the Pronmed cohort admitted to the ICU at Uppsala University Hospital. Dehydration data was available for 165 of these patients and used for the primary analysis. Validation was performed in Biobanque Québécoise de la COVID-19 (BQC19) using 1052 patients with dehydration data. Dehydration was assessed through estimated osmolality (eOSM = 2Na + 2 K + glucose + urea), and correlated to important endpoints including death, invasive mechanical ventilation, acute kidney injury, and long COVID-19 symptom score grouped by physical or mental. Results Increasing eOSM was correlated with increasing role of organic osmolytes for eOSM, while the proportion of sodium and potassium of eOSM were inversely correlated to eOSM. Acute outcomes were associated with pronounced dehydration, and physical long-COVID was more strongly associated with dehydration than mental long-COVID after adjustment for age, sex, and disease severity. Metabolomic analysis showed enrichment of amino acids among metabolites that showed an aestivating pattern. Conclusions Dehydration during acute COVID-19 infection causes an aestivation response that is associated with protein degradation and physical long-COVID. Objective The fixation of the coronoid fractures in terrible triad injuries is quite challenging. In this study, we introduce a minimally invasive technique using a syringe as a guide for insertion of the cannulated screw in an anterior to posterior fashion to fix the coronoid fracture in patients with terrible triad injuries. Methods In this retrospective study, clinical data of patients suffering from terrible triad injuries between 2012 and 2019 were analyzed. Fifteen patients with an average age of 38.2 years old (21–56 years) were enrolled in this study, of which 12 were males and three were females. The Regan–Morrey type II and type III coronoid fractures in these patients were treated with cannulated screws, inserted anteriorly using a 1 mL syringe as a guide. Outcome measures included pain, range of motion, stability and daily function using Mayo Elbow Performance scores (MEPs). The anteroposterior and lateral radiographs were used for evaluating a healing fracture. Results After a mean follow up of 44.2 months (range 13–80), the mean elbow flexion was 128.2°, extension was 12.3°, forearm pronation was 74.6° and supination was 73.6°. A concentric reduction was maintained without severe pain, stiffness, and radiographic evidence of instability in all patients during the follow‐up period. The mean MEPs was 89.7 points. Conclusion The anteroposterior cannulated screw fixation via simple syringe guide is a minimally invasive and safe option for surgical treatment of coronoid fractures in terrible triad injuries.

Abstract The dynamics of an ultra‐precision machine tool determines the precision of the machined surface. This study aims to propose an effective method to model and analyze the dynamics of an ultra‐precision fly‐cutting machine tool. First, the dynamic model of the machine tool considering the deformations of the cutter head and the lathe head is developed. Then, the mechanical elements are classified into M subsystems and F subsystems according to their properties and connections. The M‐subsystem equations are formulated using the transfer matrix method for multibody systems (MSTMM), and the F‐subsystem equations are analyzed using the finite element method and the Craig–Bampton reduction method. Furthermore, all the subsystems are assembled by combining the restriction equations at connection points among the subsystems to obtain the overall transfer equation of the machine tool system. Finally, the vibration characteristics of the machine tool are evaluated numerically and are validated experimentally. The proposed modeling and analysis method preserves the advantages of the MSTMM, such as high computational efficiency, low computational load, systematic reduction of the overall transfer equation, and generalization of its computational capability to general flexible‐body elements. In addition, this study provides theoretical insights and guidance for the design of ultra‐precision machine tools.

The main construction strategies include actively launching books or films and television dramas based on the deeds of Zhang Zhongjing and other famous TCM doctors, turning herbs cultivation bases into special tourism and sightseeing parks, establishing research and dissemination bases of TCM culture, and building TCM wellness tourism bases that integrate learning, rehabilitation, and tourism, using information technology and cultural media platforms to introduce Zhang Zhongjing culture to the world.

As one of the alternative insulation gases, C4F7N/CO2 gas mixtures have attracted much attention recently. In this study, the normalized Townsend first ionization coefficient α/N and the normalized attachment coefficient η/N were measured in C4F7N/CO2 gas mixtures by using the Steady-State Townsend (SST) method over a range of electric fields E/N from 100 to 550 Td. The concentrations of C4F7N studied were 4.99, 7.00, 9.00, 13.13 and 20.02%, and the gas pressure were 500 Pa at 20°C. The effective ionization coefficients and the critical electric field were obtained at 500, 1000 and 2000 Pa to investigate the effect of gas pressure on dielectric strength in 9.00%C4F7N/91.00%CO2 respectively. The results indicated that the (E/N)lim have not significant change on the SST experimental conditions. Meanwhile, a comparison with SF6 gas indicates that 20.02% C4F7N/79.98% CO2 has a similar insulation performance with (E/N)lim as 358.82 Td. However, when the liquefaction temperature is considered, the C4F7N/CO2 gas mixtures with 9.00% C4F7N could be considered as an appropriate substitute gas for SF6, because the critical electric field of this gas mixture is over 70% of SF6 gas and could be used under -15°C at 0.7 MPa.

ABSTRACT Calcium is widely used in conjunction with vitamin D to prevent osteoporosis. The use of calcium supplementation is also promoted for its potential benefits in lowering the risk for metabolic syndromes and cancers. However, the causal link between calcium and various health outcomes remains unclear. This review focuses on the evidence from 24 Mendelian randomization (MR) studies that were designed to minimize bias from confounding and reverse causation. These MR studies evaluated the effect of lifelong genetically higher serum calcium levels on various health outcomes. Overall, available MR studies found no conclusive effects of serum calcium levels on bone mineral density and fracture, ischemic stroke and heart failure, cancers, type 2 diabetes, Parkinson disease, or offspring birth weight. However, a higher serum calcium concentration was reported to have estimated causal effects on increased risks for coronary artery disease (especially myocardial infarction), migraine, renal colic, allergy/adverse effect of penicillin, and reduced risks for osteoarthrosis and osteoarthritis. In conclusion, supplementation of calcium in individuals from the general population is not predicted to influence the risk of most investigated diseases to date. Moreover, long‐term high serum calcium concentrations may result in adverse health outcomes. © 2021 The Authors. The self-ion irradiation experiments of FeCrAl and Y−FeCrAl alloys are carried out at 330 °C to 1–10 displacements per atom (dpa). The formation of dislocation loops in these alloys is investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and nano-indentation tests are used to assess the irradiation hardening. A large number of dislocation loops are formed after irradiation, and dislocation network gradually develops above 2.5 dpa. The average size of dislocation loops increases while the number density decreases when the dose was increased. In comparison to a/2 dislocation loops, a dislocation loops have a larger average size and higher proportion. Higher temperatures and dose rate can increase the proportion of a dislocation loops. As the dose is increasing, irradiation hardening increases. The addition of yttrium increases the proportion of a dislocation loops and reduces the irradiation hardening due to the high binding energy between yttrium atom and vacancy.

BackgroundIncreased vitamin D levels, as reflected by 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25OHD) measurements, have been proposed to protect against COVID-19 based on in vitro, observational, and ecological studies. However, vitamin D levels are associated with many confounding variables, and thus associations described to date may not be causal. Vitamin D Mendelian randomization (MR) studies have provided results that are concordant with large-scale vitamin D randomized trials. Here, we used 2-sample MR to assess evidence supporting a causal effect of circulating 25OHD levels on COVID-19 susceptibility and severity.Methods and findingsGenetic variants strongly associated with 25OHD levels in a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of 443,734 participants of European ancestry (including 401,460 from the UK Biobank) were used as instrumental variables. GWASs of COVID-19 susceptibility, hospitalization, and severe disease from the COVID-19 Host Genetics Initiative were used as outcome GWASs. These included up to 14,134 individuals with COVID-19, and up to 1,284,876 without COVID-19, from up to 11 countries. SARS-CoV-2 positivity was determined by laboratory testing or medical chart review. Population controls without COVID-19 were also included in the control groups for all outcomes, including hospitalization and severe disease. Analyses were restricted to individuals of European descent when possible. Using inverse-weighted MR, genetically increased 25OHD levels by 1 standard deviation on the logarithmic scale had no significant association with COVID-19 susceptibility (odds ratio [OR] = 0.95; 95% CI 0.84, 1.08; p = 0.44), hospitalization (OR = 1.09; 95% CI: 0.89, 1.33; p = 0.41), and severe disease (OR = 0.97; 95% CI: 0.77, 1.22; p = 0.77). We used an additional 6 meta-analytic methods, as well as conducting sensitivity analyses after removal of variants at risk of horizontal pleiotropy, and obtained similar results. These results may be limited by weak instrument bias in some analyses. Further, our results do not apply to individuals with vitamin D deficiency.ConclusionsIn this 2-sample MR study, we did not observe evidence to support an association between 25OHD levels and COVID-19 susceptibility, severity, or hospitalization. Hence, vitamin D supplementation as a means of protecting against worsened COVID-19 outcomes is not supported by genetic evidence. Other therapeutic or preventative avenues should be given higher priority for COVID-19 randomized controlled trials.

Random-pattern skin flap is widely used in tissue reconstruction. However, necrosis occurring in the distal part of the flap limits its clinical application to some extent. Activation of autophagy has been considered as an effective approach to enhance the survival of skin flaps. Pseudoginsenoside F11 (PF11), an ocotillol-type saponin, is an important component of Panax quinquefolium which has been shown to confer protection against cerebral ischemia and alleviate oxidative stress. However, it is currently unknown whether PF11 induces autophagy to improve the survival of skin flaps. In this study, we investigated the effects of PF11 on blood flow and tissue edema. The results of histological examination and western blotting showed that PF11 enhanced angiogenesis, alleviated apoptosis and oxidative stress, thereby improving the survival of the flap. Further experiments showed that PF11 promoted nuclear translocation of TFEB and by regulating the phosphorylation of AMPK. In summary, this study demonstrates that PF11 activates autophagy through the AMPK-TFEB signal pathway in skin flaps and it could be a promising strategy for enhancing flap viability.

Understanding the driving factors for precipitation extremes matters for adaptation and mitigation measures against the changing hydrometeorological hazards in Yangtze River basin, a habitable area that provides water resources for domestic, farming, and industrial needs. However, the region is naturally subject to major floods linked to monsoonal heavy precipitation during May–September. This study aims to quantify anthropogenic influences on the changing risk of 2-week-long precipitation extremes such as the July 2019 extreme cases, as well as events of shorter durations, over the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River basin (MLYRB). Precipitation extremes with different durations ranging from 1-day to 14-days maximum precipitation accumulations are investigated. Gridded daily precipitations based on nearly 2,400 meteorological stations across China are used to define maximum accumulated precipitation extremes over the MLYRB in July during 1961–2019. Attribution analysis is conducted by using the Met Office HadGEM3-GA6 modeling system, which comprises two sets of 525-member ensembles for 2019. One is forced with observed sea-surface temperatures (SSTs), sea-ice and all forcings, and the other is forced with preindustrialized SSTs and natural forcings only. The risk ratio between the exceedance probabilities estimated from all-forcing and natural-forcing simulations is calculated to quantify the anthropogenic contribution to the changing risks of the July 2019–like precipitation extremes. The results reveal that anthropogenic warming has reduced the likelihood of 2019-like 14-days heavy precipitation over the mid–lower reaches of the Yangtze River by 20%, but increased that of 2-days extremes by 30%.

Five kinds of iron-chromium-aluminum (FeCrAl) alloy samples with different contents of aluminum (Al)—Fe-12Cr, Fe-12Cr-2Al, Fe-12Cr-4Al, Fe-12Cr-6Al, and Fe-12Cr-8Al—were designed and prepared. All samples were then irradiated with 200 keV argon ions (Ar2+) to the fluence of 9.3 × 1014 ions cm−2 at 330°C. The formations of dislocation loops induced by Ar2+ irradiation in these alloys were investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Both of a/2 and a dislocation loops were generated in all samples. The sizes of both a/2 and a dislocation loops decreased and total volume number densities increased with increasing Al content of the samples. The proportion of a/2 dislocation loops decreased first and then increased with Al content, and the ratio of a/2 to a average loop size increased first and then decreased with Al content. The experiment results indicate that the increase of Al content in alloys can enhance the nucleation and inhibit the growth of dislocation loops, the interaction between a/2 and a dislocation loops is affected by the Al content in alloys as well. The difference in dislocation loops in FeCrAl alloys with different Al contents after Ar2+ irradiation can be explained by the pinning of dislocation loops by the Al atoms. Microstructure and irradiation hardening of V-4Cr-4Ti alloys with different yttrium (Y) contents were studied by self-ion irradiation at 550 °C via TEM and nano-indentation test technology. The peak damage of the V-4Cr-4Ti-xY alloy (x = 0, 0.1, 0.5, and 1, wt.%) irradiated by 2.5 MeV self-ion (V2+) is 8 dpa. Dense dislocation loops were observed in all vanadium alloy samples after irradiation. With the increase of Y content, both average size and number density of dislocation loops using g = near the pole [001] decreased, while the irradiation hardness increment first decreased and then increased. In order to better reduce the irradiation hardening, it is considered that the addition of 0.1 wt.% Y in V-4Cr-4Ti alloy is reasonable.

Fatty acid-binding proteins (Fabps) make up a family of widely distributed cytoplasmic lipid-binding proteins. The small intestine contains three predominant Fabp species, Fabp1, Fabp2, and Fabp6. Our previous studies showed that Fabp2 and Fabp6 gene-disrupted mice exhibited sexually dimorphic phenotypes. In this study, we carried out a systematic comparative analysis of the small intestinal transcriptomes of 10 week-old wild-type (WT) and Fabp gene-disrupted male and female mice. We found that the small intestinal transcriptome of male and female mice showed key differences in the gene expression profiles that affect major biological processes. The deletion of specific Fabp genes induced unique and sex-specific changes in the gene expression program, although some differentially expressed genes in certain genotypes were common to both sexes. Functional annotation and interaction network analyses revealed that the number and type of affected pathways, as well as the sets of interacting nodes in each of the Fabp genotypes, are partitioned by sex. To our knowledge, this is the first time that sex differences were identified and categorized at the transcriptome level in mice lacking different intestinal Fabps. The distinctive transcriptome profiles of WT male and female small intestine may predetermine the nature of transcriptional reprogramming that manifests as sexually dimorphic responses to the ablation of intestinal Fabp genes.

When people make decisions about sequentially presented items in psychophysical experiments, their decisions are always biased by their preceding decisions and the preceding items, either by assimilation (shift towards the decision or item) or contrast (shift away from the decision or item). Such sequential biases also occur in naturalistic and real-world judgments such as facial attractiveness judgments. In this article, we aimed to cast light on the causes of these sequential biases. We first found significant assimilative and contrastive effects in a visual face attractiveness judgment task and an auditory ringtone agreeableness judgment task, indicating that sequential effects are not limited to the visual modality. We then found that the provision of trial-by-trial feedback of the preceding stimulus value eliminated the contrastive effect, but only weakened the assimilative effect. When participants orally reported their judgments rather than indicated them via a keyboard button press, we found a significant diminished assimilative effect, suggesting that motor response repetition strengthened the assimilation bias. Finally, we found that when visual and auditory stimuli were alternated, there was no longer a contrastive effect from the immediately previous trial, but there was an assimilative effect both from the previous trial (cross-modal) and the 2-back trial (same stimulus modality). These findings suggested that the contrastive effect results from perceptual processing, while the assimilative effect results from anchoring of the previous judgment and is strengthened by response repetition and numerical priming.

Product aspect recognition is a key task in fine-grained opinion mining. Current methods primarily focus on the extraction of aspects from the product reviews. However, it is also important to cluster synonymous extracted aspects into the same category. In this paper, we focus on the problem of product aspect clustering. The primary challenge is to properly cluster and generalize aspects that have similar meanings but different representations. To address this problem, we learn two types of background knowledge for each extracted aspect based on two types of effective aspect relations: relevant aspect relations and irrelevant aspect relations, which describe two different types of relationships between two aspects. Based on these two types of relationships, we can assign many relevant and irrelevant aspects into two different sets as the background knowledge to describe each product aspect. To obtain abundant background knowledge for each product aspect, we can enrich the available information with background knowledge from the Web. Then, we design a hierarchical clustering algorithm to cluster these aspects into different groups, in which aspect similarity is computed using the relevant and irrelevant aspect sets for each product aspect. Experimental results obtained in both camera and mobile phone domains demonstrate that the proposed product aspect clustering method based on two types of background knowledge performs better than the baseline approach without the use of background knowledge. Moreover, the experimental results also indicate that expanding the available background knowledge using the Web is feasible.
