The purging plug is essential for enhancing production efficiency in molten steel refining, yet it faces challenges related to structural integrity due to its lifespan often not aligning with the ladle's repair cycle. This study introduces a novel corundum-calcium hexaluminate purging plug with gradual holes designed to alleviate internal stress concentration. Utilizing a multi-objective optimization model and fluid-solid coupling heat transfer method, the impact of structural parameters on thermal and mechanical properties was systematically investigated. The numerical simulation results indicate that increasing the number of gradient layers positively impacts temperature distribution. Notably, the D-210 (1.0 mm diameter) aperture reduces the stress gradient Δσmax by 648.06 MPa compared to D-212 (1.2 mm diameter) at the Y = 0.313 m section. Additionally, variation in inclination angle impacts tensile stress σt and shear stress τ, an inclination angle of 6° (α6) reduces maximum tensile stress by 211.41 MPa compared to an angle of 0° (α0).

Abstract Background Spatiotemporal analysis is a vital method that plays an indispensable role in monitoring epidemiological changes in diseases and identifying high-risk clusters. However, there is still a blank space in the spatial and temporal distribution of tuberculosis (TB) incidence rate in Pudong New Area, Shanghai. Consequently, it is crucial to comprehend the spatiotemporal distribution of TB in this district, this will guide the prevention and control of TB in the district. Methods Our research used Geographic Information System (GIS) visualization, spatial autocorrelation analysis, and space-time scan analysis to analyze the TB incidence reported in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai from 2014 to 2023, and described the spatiotemporal clustering and seasonal hot spot distribution of TB incidence. Results From 2014 to 2023, the incidence of TB in the Pudong New Area decreased, and the mortality was at a low level. The incidence of TB in different towns/streets has declined. The spatial autocorrelation analysis revealed that the incidence of TB was spatially clustered in 2014, 2016–2018, and 2022, with the highest clusters in 2014 and 2022. The high clustering area was mainly concentrated in the northeast. The space-time scan analysis indicated that the most likely cluster was located in 12 towns/streets, with a period of 2014–2018 and a radiation radius of 15.74 km. The heat map showed that there was a correlation between TB incidence and seasonal variations. Conclusions From 2014 to 2023, the incidence of TB in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai declined, but there were spatiotemporal clusters and seasonal correlations in the incidence area. Local departments should formulate corresponding intervention measures, especially in high-clustering areas, to achieve accurate prevention and control of TB within the most effective time and scope.

Abstract Background Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a malignant tumor with a poor prognosis. Traditional treatments have limited effectiveness. Regulation of the immune response represents a promising new approach for OSCC treatment. B cells are among the most abundant immune cells in OSCC. However, the role of B cells in OSCC treatment has not been fully elucidated. Methods Single-cell RNA sequencing analysis of 13 tissues and 8 adjacent normal tissues from OSCC patients was performed to explore differences in B-cell gene expression between OSCC tissues and normal tissues. We further investigated the relationship between differentially expressed genes and the immune response to OSCC. We utilized tissue microarray data for 146 OSCC clinical samples and RNA sequencing data of 359 OSCC samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) to investigate the role of T-cell leukemia 1 A (TCL1A) in OSCC prognosis. Multiplex immunohistochemistry (mIHC) was employed to investigate the spatial distribution of TCL1A in OSCC tissues. We then investigated the effect of TCL1A on B-cell proliferation and trogocytosis. Finally, lentiviral transduction was performed to induce TCL1A overexpression in B lymphoblastoid cell lines (BLCLs) to verify the function of TCL1A. Results Our findings revealed that TCL1A was predominantly expressed in B cells and was associated with a better prognosis in OSCC patients. Additionally, we found that TCL1A-expressing B cells are located at the periphery of lymphatic follicles and are associated with tertiary lymphoid structures (TLS) formation in OSCC. Mechanistically, upregulation of TCL1A promoted the trogocytosis of B cells on dendritic cells by mediating the upregulation of CR2, thereby improving antigen-presenting ability. Moreover, the upregulation of TCL1A expression promoted the proliferation of B cells. Conclusion This study revealed the role of B-cell TCL1A expression in TLS formation and its effect on OSCC prognosis. These findings highlight TCL1A as a novel target for OSCC immunotherapy.

IntroductionPerinatal depression (PND) affects approximately 15%–20% of women. This study aimed to determine the incidence of PND and identify risk factors.MethodsA prospective study was conducted at the Affiliated People’s Hospital of Ningbo University. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) was used to screen for PND. Classification models were constructed using Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Logistic Regression (LR), Random Forest (RF), and Support Vector Machine (SVM), and the optimal model was selected.ResultsBetween March 2019 and August 2021, a total of 485 participants completed all valid questionnaires. Depression was observed in 75 (15.5%), 47 (9.7%), 25 (5.2%), 94 (19.4%), 85 (17.5%), and 43 (8.9%) cases during the first trimester, the second trimester, the third trimester, 1 week postpartum, 6 months postpartum, and 12 months postpartum, respectively. During the prenatal period, factors such as monthly income, employment status, marital status, and thyroid function significantly impacted depression. Additionally, factors including monthly income, employment status, marital status, parity, and unintended pregnancy were found to affect the likelihood of developing postpartum depression. XGBoost was chosen for its accuracy (0.9097) and precision (0.9005) in predicting prenatal depression, as well as for its accuracy (0.9253) and precision (0.9523) in predicting postpartum depression.DiscussionIn conclusion, the incidence of depression varies throughout the perinatal period, with different factors influencing prenatal and postpartum depression.

Abstract Introduction Endometriosis (EM) is a multifactorial disease that affects 10 − 15% of women of reproductive age. Additionally, 30–50% of women with EM suffer from infertility. The mechanism of infertility caused by EM has not yet been consistently explained. In recent years, studies have shown a link between infertility associated with EM and changes in the reproductive tract microbiota. Methods In this study, we involved 26 EM patients (8 cases of stage I-II and 18 cases of stage III-IV) and 31 control subjects who were tubal obstruction-related infertility (TORI). The samples from peritoneal fluid (PF) and uterine fluid (UF) were collected and sequenced by 16 S rRNA amplicon. Results In the comparison of microbial diversity, we found no significant differences in the microbial diversity of PF and UF between patients with stage I-II EM and those with TORI. However, there was a significant difference in microbial diversity among patients with stage III-IV EM compared to the previous two groups. Lactobacillus decreased in PF of EM compared to the control group, while it increased in UF. In PF, the abundance of Pseudomonas, Enterococcus, Dubosiella and Klebsiella was significantly higher in patients with stage III-IV compared to TORI patients. And in UF, the main differences existed between stage I-II EM compared to the other two groups. The abundance of pontibacter, aquabacterium, Rikenellaceae and so on at the genus level was significantly enriched in the EM patients with stage I-II. In the analysis based on KEGG database, EM may affect the receptivity related pathways of the endometrium by influencing changes in the uterine microbiota. Conclusion Our results indicated that as EM progresses, the microorganisms in UF and PF keep changing. These changes in the microbiota, as well as the resulting alternations in gene functional classification, may play an important role in the infertility associated with EM.

Abstract Background More than 90% of children with cancer live in low-resourced settings, where survival is only 20%. Sustainable evidence-based (EB) interventions yielding ongoing beneficial patient outcomes are critical to improve childhood cancer survival. A better understanding of factors promoting intervention sustainability in these settings is urgently needed. The aim of this study is to provide an empirical understanding of how clinical capacity for sustainability, or the resources needed to sustain an intervention, impacts the sustainment of Pediatric Early Warning System (PEWS), an EB intervention that improves pediatric oncology outcomes in low-resource hospitals by detecting clinical deterioration and preventing the need for more intense treatment. Methods We will conduct a prospective, longitudinal study of approximately 100 resource-variable hospitals implementing and sustaining PEWS participating in Proyecto EVAT, a quality improvement collaborative of Latin American pediatric oncology centers. Aim 1: We will evaluate how clinical capacity for sustainability changes over time through 5 to 9 prospective measurements of capacity via survey of clinical staff using PEWS (approximately n = 13 per center) during the phases of PEWS adoption, implementation, and sustainability using the Clinical Sustainability Assessment Tool (CSAT). Aim 2: We will determine the relationship between capacity and a) PEWS sustainment and b) clinical deterioration mortality among pediatric oncology patients at centers sustaining PEWS for 2 to 10 years using chart review and an existing patient outcomes registry. Aim 3: We will develop novel strategies to promote sustainability by gaining a deeper understanding of perceived challenges to building capacity and PEWS sustainment. In combination with quantitative outcomes, we will conduct 24 focus groups with staff (doctors, nurses, and administrators) from hospitals with both high (n = 4) and low capacity (n = 4). We will then use implementation mapping to generate theoretically driven, empirically-supported sustainability strategies. Discussion This study will advance implementation science by providing a theoretically driven, foundational understanding of factors that predict sustainability among a large, diverse cohort of hospitals. We will then use this knowledge to develop sustainability evidence-informed strategies that optimize capacity and promote long-term sustainment of PEWS and improvements in patient outcomes, thus promoting equity in childhood cancer care globally.

With the formulation of the national strategy for ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin and the demand for green development, the control of industrial pollution has become the main task of environmental protection in the Yellow River Basin. However, the research on the ecotope pollution in the Yellow River Valley mainly stays in the theory and strategy. In response to the above problems, this paper would carry out scientific data analysis and high-dimensional research on the ecotope pollution in the Yellow River Valley from the perspective of green development and data analysis algorithms. The research results showed that the reconstruction probability of the Threshold-based Sparsity Adaptive Matching Pursuit (TSAMP) algorithm remained 100% when K was less than 50. Meteorological radars, as remote sensing instruments, play a vital role in observing clouds and precipitation. However, due to the complexity of hydrometeors in shape, density, diameter, orientation, and particle size distributions, accurate quantification of the inner microphysical characteristics of a cloud/precipitation system is challenging for a single-frequency radar. Recently, the advancement in scattering theory of hydrometeors, computer science, and hardware manufacturing (such as millimeter-wave devices) has stimulated the application of multi-frequency radars, bringing novel observations for an improved understanding of cloud and precipitation microphysics. Over the past few years, the multi-frequency vertical detection techniques have evolved from the new retrieval methods being enlightened by scattering theory to a new stage of the crucial microphysical processes being revealed by field observations. In this paper, from the perspectives of liquid and frozen hydrometeor microphysics, we introduce the key techniques used for dual- and triple-frequency radar retrieval techniques based on the scattering and attenuation of hydrometeors. Meanwhile, enlightened by the scattering of hydrometeors, we propose that the multi-frequency radar detecting techniques are developing from the classical W/Ka/X wavelengths to a "triple-frequency plus" stage, involving radars with shorter wavelengths and/or longer wavelengths. With spaceborne radars being developed from single-frequency to dual-frequency radars, the improvement of ground-based multi-frequency radars is expected to provide crucial support to future spaceborne multi-frequency radar missions.

IntroductionAcute lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is the most common pediatric malignancy. While the survival rate for childhood ALL exceeds 90% in high-income countries, the estimated survival in low-and middle-income countries ranges from 22-79%, depending on the region and local resources.MethodsThis study retrospectively reviewed demographic, biological, and clinical parameters of children under 18 years of age with newly diagnosed ALL presenting between 2013-2017 across five pediatric centers in 4 countries in South America. Survival analyses were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method.ResultsAcross the five centers, 752 patients were analyzed (Bolivia [N=9], Ecuador [N=221], Paraguay [N=197], Peru [N=325]) and 92.1% (n=690) patients were diagnosed with B-cell and 7.5% (n= 56) with T-cell ALL. The median age was 5.5 years old (IQR 7.29). At diagnosis, 47.8% of patients were categorized as standard and 51.9% as high risk per their institutional regimen. Advanced diagnostics availability varied between modalities. MRD was evaluated in 69.1% of patients; molecular testing was available for ETV6-RUNX, BCR-ABL1, TCF3-PBX1, and KMT2A-rearranged ALL in 75-81% of patients; however, karyotyping and evaluation for iAMP21 were only performed in 42-61% of patients. Central nervous system (CNS) involvement was evaluated at diagnosis in 57.3% (n=429) patients; of these, 93.7% (n=402) were CNS 1, 1.6% (n=7) were CNS 2, 0.7% (n=11) were CNS3, 1.9% (n=8) had cranial nerve palsy, and 2.1% (n=9) results unavailable. Chemotherapy delays >2 weeks were reported in 56.0% (n=421) patients during treatment. Delays were attributed to infection in 63.2% (n=265), drug-related toxicities in 47.3% (n=198), and resource constraints, including lack of bed availability in 23.2% (n=97) of patients. The 3-year Abandonment-sensitive EFS and OS were 61.0±1.9% and 67.2±1.8%, respectively. The 3-year EFS and OS were 71.0±1.8% and 79.6±1.7%, respectively.DiscussionThis work reveals opportunities to improve survival, including addressing severe infections, treatment interruptions, and modifications due to drug shortages. In 2018, healthcare professionals across South America established the Pediatric Oncology Latin America (POLA) group in collaboration with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. POLA collaborators developed an evidence-based, consensus-derived, adapted treatment guideline, informed by preliminary results of this evaluation, to serve as the new standard of care for pediatric ALL in participating institutions.

Background and aimsPediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) survival rates in low- and middle-income countries are lower due to deficiencies in multilevel factors, including access to timely diagnosis, risk-stratified therapy, and comprehensive supportive care. This retrospective study aimed to analyze outcomes for pediatric ALL at 16 centers in Mexico.MethodsPatients 0.9, with hyperdiploid ALL, and without substantial treatment modifications. In multivariable analyses, age and Day 15 MRD continued to have a significant effect on EFS.ConclusionOutcomes in this multi-institutional cohort describe poor outcomes, influenced by incomplete and inconsistent risk stratification, early toxic death, high on-treatment mortality, and high CNS relapse rate. Adopting comprehensive risk-stratification strategies, evidence-informed de-intensification for favorable-risk patients and optimized supportive care could improve outcomes.

BackgroundDiabetes mellitus (DM) imposes a significant disease burden in economically transitioning regions. Most transitioning regions share similar experience in urbanization processes. Shanghai’s Pudong district serves as a representative area of such regions. ObjectiveWe aimed to assess the burden of and trends in DM mortality in Shanghai’s Pudong district and analyze the impact of aging and multimorbidity. MethodsA longitudinal, population-based study was conducted to analyze DM mortality in Pudong from 2005 to 2020. We used joinpoint regression to analyze epidemiological features and long-term trends in crude mortality rate (CMR), age-standardized mortality rate worldwide (ASMRW), and years of life lost (YLL). Furthermore, the decomposition method was used to evaluate the contribution of demographic and nondemographic factors associated with mortality. ResultsThere were 49,414 deaths among individuals with DM, including 15,512 deaths due to DM. The CMR and ASMRW were 109.55/105 and 38.01/105 person-years, respectively. Among the mortality associated with and due to DM, the total annual ASMRW increased by 3.65% (95% CI 3.25%-4.06%) and 1.38% (95% CI 0.74%-2.02%), respectively. Additionally, the total annual YLL rate increased by 4.98% (95% CI 3.92%-6.05%) and 2.68% (95% CI 1.34%-4.04%). The rates of YLL increase in persons aged 30 to 44 years (3.98%, 95% CI 0.32%-7.78%) and 45 to 59 years (4.31%, 95% CI 2.95%-5.69%) were followed by the increase in persons aged 80 years and older (10.53%, 95% CI 9.45%-11.62%) for deaths associated with DM. The annual CMR attributable to demographic factors increased by 41.9% (95% CI 17.73%-71.04%) and 36.72% (95% CI 16.69%-60.2%) for deaths associated with and due to DM, respectively. Hypertension, cerebrovascular disease, and ischemic heart disease were the top 3 comorbidities. ConclusionsAging and multimorbidity played essential roles in changing the burden of DM in an urbanizing and transitioning region. There is an increasing disease burden among young and middle-aged people, emphasizing the need for greater attention to these groups. Health management is an emerging method that holds important implications for alleviating the future burden of DM.

Alumina-calcium hexaluminate refractories experience crack development under severe conditions, leading to a significant reduction in mechanical strength. The external finite element method and Paris' law were employed to investigate the effects of external load and in-situ crack length on stress intensity factor. Fatigue life and crack propagation process of refractories were simulated for varying CAx contents under Model I failure. The findings revealed a linear correlation between the stress intensity factor and external load for a fixed in-situ crack length (a≤16 mm). The ultimate strength of alumina-calcium hexaluminate refractories is inversely proportional to the in-situ crack length. The material's microstructure significantly influences the ultimate strength of refractories, whereas the crack propagation ratio at the interface-to-the aggregate level strongly affects fatigue life. Refractories with a CAx content of 29.78% exhibit the longest fatigue life, attributed to the favorable formation of CA6/CA2 and the highest interface-to-aggregate crack propagation ratio.

Abstract. Background:. Colorectal cancer (CRC) still ranks the top in morbidity and mortality of cancers worldwide, posing a huge threat and burden to the society. We aimed to determine the age-standardized incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) of CRC and explore potential changes in the temporal trends of the CRC burden in Shanghai during 2002 to 2016. Methods:. The cancer statistics and demographics were obtained from the Cancer Registry and the Statistics Bureau of Pudong New Area, respectively. Data from 2002 to 2016 were included and analyzed retrospectively. DALYs were calculated using DisMod and the age-standardized rates (ASRs) were obtained according to Segi world standard population. Joinpoint regression was used to measure the trends in CRC incidence and to estimate the annual percent change. Results:. The increasing trend of CRC ASR incidence halted after 2014, coinciding with the introduction of the Shanghai CRC screening program. The ASRs of mortality and DALYs increased, at 0.42% (P 74 years. The benefits of the screening program have been partially proven by the ASRs of CRC incidence, providing important insights into better and wider application of screening programs.

Abstract Background The incidents of second primary malignancy (SPM) is increasing among breast cancer (BC) patients with long-term progression, adversely affecting survival. The purpose of this study was to screen independent overall survival (OS) risk factors and establish nomograms to predict the survival probabilities of BC patients with SPM. Method A total of 163 BC patients with SPM were recruited during 2002–2015 from a total of 50 hospitals in Shanghai, China. Two nomograms to predict survival from primary BC and SPM diagnosis were constructed based on independent factors screened from multivariable analysis. The calibration and discrimination of nomograms were calculated in the training and validation cohorts. Results The overall survival rates of BC patients with SPM were 88.34%, 64.42% and 54.66% at 5, 10 and 15 years, respectively. Factors of late TNM stage of SPM (HR = 4.68, 95% CI 2.14–10.25), surgery for SPM (HR = 0.60, 95% CI 0.36–1.00), SPM in the colon and rectum (HR = 0.49, 95% CI 0.25–0.98) and thyroid (HR = 0.08, 95% CI 0.01–0.61) independently affected the OS of BC patients with SPM (p

BackgroundThe impact of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) on the life span of residents in a transitioning region has not been studied in depth. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the changes in AMI-related resident deaths in a transitioning region in China.MethodsA longitudinal, population-based study was performed to analyze the deaths with/of AMI in Pudong New Area (PNA), Shanghai from 2005 to 2021. The average annual percentage change (AAPC) of AMI in crude mortality rates (CMR), age-standardized mortality rates worldwide (ASMRW), and rates of years of life lost (YLLr) were calculated by the joinpoint regression. The impact of demographic and non-demographic factors on the mortality of residents who died with/of AMI was quantitatively analyzed by the decomposition method.ResultsIn 7,353 residents who died with AMI, 91.74% (6,746) of them were died of AMI from 2005 to 2021. Screening programmes are important for early diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC) but they are not equally efficient in all locations. Depending on which hospital people belong to, they often are not willing to follow up even after a positive result, resulting in a lower-than-expected overall detection rate. Improved allocation of health resources would increase the program’s efficiency and assist hospital accessibility. A target population exceeding 70,000 people and 18 local hospitals were included in the investigation of an optimization plan based on a locationallocation model. We calculated the hospital service areas and the accessibility for people in communities to CRC-screening hospitals using the Huff Model and the Two-Step Floating Catchment Area (2SFCA) approach. We found that only 28.2% of the residents with initially a positive screening result had chosen followup with colonoscopy and significant geographical differences in spatial accessibility to healthcare services indeed exist. Summary: Background: The stark disparity in survival for children with cancer across the world has inspired a global call to expand chemotherapy access in low and middle income countries. Among the numerous barriers to success, a paucity of reliable information regarding chemotherapy pricing hinders the ability of governments and other key stakeholders to make informed budget decisions or negotiate lower medication prices. The aim of this study was to generate comparative price information on both individual chemotherapy agents and comprehensive treatment regimens for common childhood cancers using real-world data. Methods: Chemotherapy agents were selected based on their inclusion in the World Health Organization (WHO) Essential Medicines List for Children (EMLc) and their use in frontline regimens for the tracer cancer types prioritized by the WHO's Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer (GICC). Sources included IQVIA MIDAS data, obtained under license from IQVIA, and publicly available data from Management Sciences for Health (MSH). Data on chemotherapy prices and purchase volumes spanning 2012–2019 were aggregated according to WHO region and World Bank (WB) income classification. Cumulative chemotherapy prices for treatment regimens were compared across WB income classification. Findings: Data representing an estimated 1.1 billion doses of chemotherapy were obtained for 97 countries: 43 high income countries (HICs), 28 upper middle income countries (UMICs), and 26 low and lower middle income countries (LLMICs). Median drug prices in HICs were 0.9–20.4 times those of UMICs and 0.9–15.5 times those of LMICs. Regimen prices were generally higher for HICs, hematologic malignancies, non-adapted protocols, and higher risk stratification or stage, albeit with notable exceptions. Interpretation: This study represents the largest price analysis to date of chemotherapy agents used globally in childhood cancer therapy. The findings of this study form a basis for future cost-effectiveness analysis in pediatric cancer and should inform efforts of governments and stakeholders to negotiate drug prices and develop pooled purchasing strategies. Abstract Background Many factors can affect the recurrence of endometriosis after surgery, however, whether endometriotic cyst fluid contributes to endometriosis recurrence after surgical excision of ovarian endometriomas remains unclear. The objective of this study was to determine the presence of endometrial cells in ovarian endometriosis cyst fluid and the potential differences between these cells and those in the cyst wall. Methods Samples of cyst fluid (n = 39) and drainage fluid (n = 14) were collected from patients with ovarian endometriomas undergoing laparoscopic surgery. Drainage fluid from 14 patients without endometriosis was used as a control. The presence of endometrial cells in cyst fluid and drainage fluid was determined by cell culture in vitro and immunostaining. In addition, cyst fluid endometrial fragments and viscosity were analysed by transcriptome sequencing analysis and apparent diffusion coefficients, respectively. An animal model was used to confirm the ability of endometrial cells in cyst fluid to form new lesions. Results We found endometrium-like tissues in 71.8% (28/39) of cyst fluid and 71.4% (10/14) of drainage fluid samples by histopathological examination, and the presence of endometrioid tissue in cyst fluid was related to the viscosity of the cyst fluid. Abstract Background The diagnosis of endometriosis (EMs) is still based on laparoscopic observation. This study tries to verify whether exosomal tRNA-derived fragments (tRFs) in leucorrhea can be used as non-invasive diagnostic markers. Methods Endometrial tissues and leucorrhea were sampled from women hospitalized in Ningbo University Affiliated Hospital from January 2021 to July 2021 with (n = 26) and without endometriosis (n = 25). Exosomes were isolated from samples by differential centrifugation. The small RNA sequencing was performed to detect the exosomal tRNA halves (tiRNAs)&tRFs. RNA probe and immunofluorescence antibody were used to localize the origin of tRFs. From mast cell lines infected with tRF-Leu-AAG-001 siRNA, we observed the change in vascular capacity and expression of inflammatory factors. The specificity and sensitivity tRF were determined by receiver operating characteristic analyses. Results 63 up-regulated and 45 down-regulated tRFs&tiRNAs were identified in ectopic exosomes. We selected tRF-Leu-AAG-001 as a candidate marker through KEGG pathway enrichment and PCR verification. We found that mast cells highly expressed tRF-Leu-AAG-001 in ectopic foci by immunofluorescence staining. We used siRNA to silenced tRF-Leu-AAG-001 expression in luva, qPCR analysis showed IL-6, IL-10, IL-1β, and TNF-α were significantly decreased. Meanwhile, tRF-Leu-AAG-001 siRNA dramatically reduced the angiogenic ability of luva. Finally, we examined the expression of exosomal tRF-Leu-AAG-001 in the leucorrhea. It was found exosomal tRF-Leu-AAG-001 had high specificity and sensitivity for predicting the occurrence of ectopic disease. Conclusions Exosomal tRF-Leu-AAG-001 derived from mast cells in ectopic foci might promote inflammation and angiogenesis. Meanwhile, leucorrhea exosomal tRF-Leu-AAG-001 could be a potential diagnostic biomarker for endometriosis.

Abstract Background The mechanism of long non-coding RNA MIR137HG in human gastric cancer (GC) is currently unknown. In the present study, we aimed to explore the function and mechanism of MIR137HG in gastric cancer. Methods The expression of lncRNA-MIR137HG in 69 gastric cancer samples and their paired surgical margin (SM) tissue samples were tested by QRT-PCR. UCSC was used to find the gene location relationship among MIR137HG and its embedded miRNAs. TargetScan was used to predict the targets of miR-2682-3p. Starbase was used to predict the candidate proteins that interacted with MIR137HG. Western blot, co-focus, and RIP assay were used to verify the direct interaction between MIR137HG and FUS (fused in sarcoma/translocated in liposarcoma, FUS/TLS), while dual-luciferase reporter assay was used to confirm the interaction between miR-2682-3p and FUS. Cell migration assays, colony formation, and xenografts assay were used to investigate the function of MIR137HG and miR-2682-3p to tumor growth and metastasis. Western blot assay was used to explore the downstream candidate protein of FUS. Results Data showed that MIR137HG expressed significantly higher in GC than in SM. MIR137HG promoted colony formation and migration in vitro and promoted tumor formation and metastasis in vivo. MIR137HG is distributed in both the nucleus and cytoplasm. It was co-located with FUS and could directly interact with FUS, which might interact with other proteins, such as MET(MET-proto-oncogene, receptor tyrosine kinase), RHOC(ras homolog family member), and CTNNB1(catenin beta1). These proteins may involve different signaling pathways to regulate gastric cancer progression. By contrast, the embedded miR-2682-3p could antagonize the series functions of its host lncRNA-MIR137HG by targeting FUS. Conclusions lncRNA-MIR137HG promoted growth and metastasis in gastric cancer by interacting with FUS, while miR-2682-3p could inhibit the function of MIR137HG via the same target FUS.

BackgroundPediatric Early Warning Systems (PEWS) aid in identification of deterioration in hospitalized children with cancer but are underutilized in resource-limited settings. Proyecto EVAT is a multicenter quality improvement (QI) collaborative in Latin America to implement PEWS. This study investigates the relationship between hospital characteristics and time required for PEWS implementation.MethodsThis convergent mixed-methods study included 23 Proyecto EVAT childhood cancer centers; 5 hospitals representing quick and slow implementers were selected for qualitative analysis. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 71 stakeholders involved in PEWS implementation. Interviews were recorded, transcribed and translated to English, then coded using a priori and novel codes. Thematic content analysis explored the impact of hospital characteristics and QI experience on time required for PEWS implementation and was supplemented by quantitative analysis exploring the relationship between hospital characteristics and implementation time.ResultsIn both quantitative and qualitative analysis, material and human resources to support PEWS significantly impacted time to implementation. Lack of resources produced various obstacles that extended time necessary for centers to achieve successful implementation. Hospital characteristics, such as funding structure and type, influenced PEWS implementation time by determining their resource-availability. Prior hospital or implementation leader experience with QI, however, helped facilitate implementation by assisting implementers predict and overcome resource-related challenges.ConclusionsHospital characteristics impact time required to implement PEWS in resource-limited childhood cancer centers; however, prior QI experience helps anticipate and adapt to resource challenges and more quickly implement PEWS. QI training should be a component of strategies to scale-up use of evidence-based interventions like PEWS in resource-limited settings.

Background With the increasing frequency of extreme weather events due to global climate change, the impact of air temperature on stroke deaths is gaining increasing attention. Objective This study aimed to evaluate the impact of average daily temperature on stroke mortality in Pudong New Area. Methods Data were collected from Pudong New Area from January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2019, including deaths due to stroke (hemorrhagic stroke and ischemic stroke) , meteorological information (air temperature, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure) , atmospheric pollutants 〔particulate matter 10 (PM10) , sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) 〕. We used a distributed lag non-linear model (DLNM) to evaluate the impact of average daily air temperature on stroke mortality, and assess the lagged and cumulative effects. Age- and education attainment-specific analyses were performed to identify the susceptible groups. Results During the period, a total number of 30 337 deaths from stroke were reported in Pudong New Area of Shanghai, and the deaths due to hemorrhagic stroke and ischemic stroke numbered 11 221 (36.99%) and 15 308 (50.46%) , respectively. The average daily deaths from stroke, hemorrhagic stroke and ischemic stroke were 5.54, 2.05 and 2.79, respectively. The average daily temperature, relative humidity and air pressure in Pudong New Area were 17.25 ℃, 73.75%, and 1 015.83 hPa, respectively. The average daily concentrations of PM10, SO2 and NO2 were 68.87 μg/m3, 28.82 μg/m3, and 44.68 μg/m3, respectively. Using the average median daily temperature (P50=18.2 ℃) as a reference, the strongest cumulative effects of low temperature (P5=3.0℃) were observed within 0-14 days lagged (Lag 0-14) for stroke mortality〔RR=1.34, 95%CI (1.15, 1.56) 〕 and hemorrhagic stroke mortality〔RR=1.61, 95%CI (1.25, 2.08) 〕. The impact of low temperature on stroke mortality and hemorrhagic stroke mortality was significantly lagged and cumulated, but its impact on ischemic stroke mortality was not significant. The strongest cumulative effects of high temperature (P95=30.1 ℃) on stroke mortality 〔RR=1.26, 95%CI (1.12, 1.41) 〕 and ischemic stroke 〔RR=1.64, 95%CI (1.39, 1.93) 〕 were observed within 0-1 day lagged (Lag 0-1) . High temperature imposed an acute effect on stroke mortality and ischemic stroke mortality, but produced insignificant effect on hemorrhagic stroke mortality. No significant impact of low temperature was observed on stroke mortality in population < 75 years old, but the impact on stroke mortality in population≥ 75 years old was strongest within Lag 0-14 d. The strongest impacts of low temperature on stroke mortality in population with primary education or below, and in population with secondary education or above were observed within Lag 0-21 d and Lag 0-14 d, respectively. No significant impact of high temperature was observed on stroke mortality in population < 75 years old and population with secondary education and above, but the impact was the strongest on stroke mortality in population ≥ 75 years old and the population with primary education or below within Lag 0-1 d. La serie de publicaciones, Xi Jinping: La gobernación y administración de China, ha desarrollado un importante papel para el estudio y la comprensión del pensamiento de Xi Jinping sobre el socialismo con peculiaridades chinas de la nueva era y supone una gran contribución a la comunidad internacional para que conozca la China contemporánea y el Partido Comunista de China. Por ello, la calidad de su traducción, a numerosos idiomas, tiene enormes impactos y juega un papel clave de poder o no, contar bien lo que ocurre en China y transmitir bien la voz de China. El uso de los diferentes tipos de metáforas ha sido una característica distintiva en los discursos del presidente Xi Jinping. Sin embargo, algunas metáforas, con características chinas o fondos culturales peculiares, serían difíciles de comprender para los lectores extranjeros debido a las disparidades culturales. Por lo tanto, las estrategias de la traducción de metáforas, que desempeñan un papel fundamental en el intercambio intercultural, serían bastante esenciales para eliminar los obstáculos de entendimiento. En este trabajo, bajo la teoría del Skopos, hacemos una comparación entre las traducciones de metáforas al español y al inglés analizando sus respectivas fortalezas y debilidades, con el propósito de ofrecer algunos consejos útiles para el mejoramiento de las versiones en español e inglés, así como para la traducción de metáforas en los discursos políticos.

Secondary ice productions (SIPs) can produce ice crystals with a number concentration much higher than that of ice nucleating particles in mixed-phase clouds and therefore influence cloud glaciation and precipitation. For midlatitude continental mesoscale convective systems (MCSs), how SIPs affect the microphysical properties and precipitation is still not clear. There are few studies of SIPs in midlatitude continental MCSs. This study investigates the roles of three SIPs (rime splintering, freezing drop shattering, and ice-ice collisional breakup) on a squall line case in North China on 18 August 2020 using the WRF model with a modified Morrison double-moment bulk microphysical scheme. Including SIPs, especially ice-ice collisional breakup, in the model simulations markedly improves the simulated convective area and convective precipitation rate of the squall line, while slightly improving the area and precipitation of the stratiform region. Within the mixed-phase layer in both the convective and stratiform regions of the squall line, ice-ice collisional breakup is the dominant process to generate ice crystals. In contrast, rime splintering generates an order of magnitude fewer ice crystals than ice-ice collisional breakup, while freezing drop shattering plays a negligible role due to the lack of large drops. Ice multiplication through ice-ice collisional breakup and rime splintering produces numerous snowflakes and graupel. This leads to enhanced depositional growth and weaker riming, which in turn weakens rime splintering. It is recommended to add SIP parameterization to the model.

Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata) is a major timber species in China, and obtaining and monitoring the parameters of Chinese fir plantations is of great practical significance. With the help of the K-means algorithm and UAV-LiDAR data, the efficiency of forestry surveys can be greatly improved. Considering that the traditional K-means algorithm is susceptible to the influence of initial cluster centers and outliers during the process of individual tree segmentation, it may result in incorrect segmentation. Therefore, this study proposes an improved K-means algorithm that uses the methods of local maxima and height weighting to optimize and improve the algorithm. The research results are as follows: (1) Compared to the traditional K-means algorithm, the producer accuracy and user accuracy of this research algorithm have imsproved by 10.72% and 11.46%, respectively, with significant differences (p < 0.05). (2) The research algorithm proposed in this study can adapt to Chinese fir plantations of different age groups, with average producer accuracy and user accuracy reaching 78.48% and 83.72%, respectively. In summary, this algorithm can be effectively applied to the forest parameter estimation of Chinese fir plantations and is of great significance for sustainable forest management.

Pain is one of the main clinical symptoms of endometriosis, but its underlying mechanism is still not clear. Recent studies have shown that the secretory mediators of mast cells activated by estrogen are involved in the pathogenesis of endometriosis-related pain, but how estrogen-induced mast cell mediators are involved in endometriosis-related pain remains unclear. Here, mast cells were found to be increased in the ovarian endometriotic lesions of patients. They were also closely located closely to the nerve fibers in the ovarian endometriotic lesions from of patients with pain symptoms. Moreover, fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2)-positive mast cells were upregulated in endometriotic lesions. The concentration of FGF2 in ascites and the protein level of fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) were higher in patients with endometriosis than in those without endometriosis, and they were correlated with pain symptoms. In vitro, estrogen could promote the secretion of FGF2 through G-protein-coupled estrogen receptor 30 (GPR30) via the MEK/ERK pathway in rodent mast cells. Estrogen-stimulated mast cells enhanced the concentration of FGF2 in endometriotic lesions and aggravated endometriosis-related pain in vivo. Targeted inhibition of the FGF2 receptor significantly restrained the neurite outgrowth and calcium influx in dorsal root ganglion (DRG) cells. Administration of FGFR1 inhibitor remarkably elevated the mechanical pain threshold (MPT) and prolonged the heat source latency (HSL) in a rat model of endometriosis. These results suggested that the up-regulated production of FGF2 by mast cells through non-classic estrogen receptor GPR30 plays a vital role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis-related pain.

BackgroundAdenomyosis is an estrogen-dependent gynecological disease. The pathogenesis of chronic pain, the main clinical symptom of adenomyosis, remains undefined. As a combination lymphocyte with both T-cell and natural killer (NK)–cell properties, NK T (NKT) cells play a role in immune defense against numerous diseases and modulate cell differentiation.MethodThis study analyzed the tissue-cell samples from adenomyosis with or without pain by single-cell sequencing.ResultWe found a specific population of secreted frizzled-related protein 4 (SFRP4)+NKT cells and a large amount of undifferentiated multipotent stem cells in the adenomyosis pain group. We discovered that a high expression of IGFBP5 in SFRP4+NKT cells could promote the differentiation of multipotent stem cells into neural-like cells via the single-cell trajectory. Through verification by the sample, we found that the degree of the expression of the neuronal marker NEFM was correlated with the duration of pain in adenomyosis patients. The expression of IGFBP5 was positively correlated with the pain scores of adenomyosis patients.ConclusionCollectively, these findings suggest that SFRP4+IGFBP5hi NKT cells were capable of converting part of the stem cells into neurogenic cells and inducing adenomyosis pain.

ObjectivesIt is important to assess the burden of ovarian cancer related premature death so as to develop appropriate evidence-based care and improve women’s health. This study aimed to characterize the long-term trends in mortality, survival and disease burden of ovarian cancer in Shanghai, China.Materials and MethodsCo-morbidities, crude mortality rate (CMR), age-standardised mortality rate by Segi’s world standard population (ASMRW), years of life lost (YLL), and survival rates were analysed. Temporal trends for the mortality rates and disease burden were analyzed using the Joinpoint Regression Program. Mortality rate increases by demographic and non-demographic factors were estimated by the decomposition method.ResultsA total of 1088 ovarian cancer as underlying cause of deaths were recorded. CMR and ASMRW were 4.82/105 and 2.32/105 person-years, respectively. The YLL was 16372.96 years, and the YLL rate was 72.46/105 person-years. The YLL rate increased only in the age group of 70-79 years (P = 0.017). The survival rates of ovarian cancer patients did not improve during the ten year period (2005-2015). The top co-morbidities were diseases of the respiratory system, digestive system, and circulatory system. The rates of ovarian cancer deaths caused by non-demographic and demographic factors increased by 21.29% (95%CI: 4.01% to 41.44%, P = 0.018) and 25.23% (95%CI: 14.64% to 36.81%, P < 0.001), respectively.ConclusionsPopulation ageing and all cause of death may affect ovarian cancer related deaths in Pudong, Shanghai. The high mortality and the stagnant survival rates suggest the need for more efforts in targeted prevention and treatment of this disease.

Membrane fouling is an inevitable obstacle of polyamide composite forward osmosis (FO) membranes in oily wastewater treatment. In this study, zwitterionic arginine (Arg) is grafted onto nascent self-made FO polyamide poly(ether sulfone) (PA-PES) membrane, imparting superior hydrophilic, antifouling, and antibacterial properties to the membrane. Detailed characterizations revealed that the Arg-modified (Arg-PES) membrane presented obviously surface positively charged and unique morphology. Results showed that our strategy endowed the optimized membrane, the water flux increased by 113.2% compared to the pristine membrane, respectively, meanwhile keeping high NaCl rejection > 93.9% (with DI water as feed solution and 0.5 M NaCl as draw solution, FO mode). The dynamic fouling tests indicated that the Arg-PES membranes exhibited much improved antifouling performance towards oily wastewater treatment. The flux recovery ratios of the membrane were as high as 92.0% for cationic emulsified oil (cetyl pyridinium chloride, CPC), 87.0% for neutral emulsified oil (Tween-80), and 86.0% for anionic emulsified oil (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS) after washing, respectively. Meanwhile, the Arg-PES membranes assembled with guanidine cationic groups exhibited an enhanced antibacterial property against E. coli, which exhibited a high antibacterial efficiency of approximately 96%. Consequently, the newly arginine functionalized FO membrane possesses impressive antifouling performance, while simultaneously resisting bacterial invasion, thus rendering it an ideal alternative for oily wastewater treatment in the FO process.

Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata) is the main fast-growing timber species in China, and studies of its stand volume are important for evaluating the effectiveness of forest management. However, it is difficult to accurately estimate stand volume from the perspective of a single tree due to the mutual concealment among Chinese fir trees. Therefore, in this study, we propose a method for identifying different forms of Chinese fir. The specific idea is to realize the accurate identification of a single Chinese fir tree, two Chinese fir trees, and three Chinese fir trees, and construct their respective stand volume estimation models to obtain an estimate of the forest stand volume. The key results are as follows: (1) the overall accuracy of recognition of different forms of Chinese fir is 79%, and the construction of different forms of Chinese fir units is beneficial for identifying forest trees; (2) a multiunit volume equation for different forms of Chinese fir is constructed; (3) based on predictions obtained with the constructed stand volume model, the difference between the estimated stand volume and the measured stand volume is small, and the average accuracy reaches 89.19%; and (4) compared to traditional volume estimation methods based on individual tree scale, the research method in this study shows a significant improvement (about 9.96%) in overall accuracy. In summary, this method can weaken the influence of erroneous individual tree segmentation on the accuracy of stand volume estimation, and can greatly reduce the working time of single tree segmentation to achieve the fast and accurate estimation of fir plantation stand volume.

BackgroundLung cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, and its incidence shows an upward trend. A study of the long-term changes in the premature death rate in lung cancer in a developed region of China has great exploratory significance to further clarify the effectiveness of intervention measures. ObjectiveThis study examined long-term changes in premature lung cancer death rates in order to understand the changes in mortality and to design future prevention plans in Pudong New Area (PNA), Shanghai, China. MethodsCancer death data were collected from the Mortality Registration System of PNA. We analyzed the crude mortality rate (CMR), age-standardized mortality rate by Segi’s world standard population (ASMRW), and years of life lost (YLL) of patients with lung cancer from 1973 to 2019. Temporal trends in the CMR, ASMRW, and YLL rate were calculated by joinpoint regression expressed as an average annual percentage change (AAPC) with the corresponding 95% CI. ResultsAll registered permanent residents in PNA (80,543,137 person-years) from 1973 to 2019 were enrolled in this study. There were 42,229 deaths from lung cancer. The CMR and ASMRW were 52.43/105 and 27.79/105 person-years, respectively. The YLL due to premature death from lung cancer was 481779.14 years, and the YLL rate was 598.16/105 person-years. Background: Endometriosis (EMs) is the most common gynaecological disorder with its etiology and/or pathophysiology remains enigmatic. Recent studies showed that extracellular vesicles (EVs), exosomes in particular, play a critical role in developing various clinical disorders. However, the implication of exosomes in endometriosis progression has not been well elucidated.Method: The ectopic stromal cellular exosomes (eEVs) were assessed by transwell assay, scratch tests, tube formation assay, western blot, and qRT-PCR analysis. Protein expression profiles of exosomes in endometrial tissue and vaginal discharge collected from patients with EMS and healthy donors were analysed by Mass spectrometry. siRNA interference technology was used to inhibit the expression of exosomal protein for the functional analysis in in-vivo. Finally, in-vitro experiments were performed to validate the results that we observed in EMs mouse model.Results:In vitro, we discovered that eEVs improved NSC migratory potential by upregulating MMP9 expression and activity. eEVs also aided angiogenesis and elevated the expression of inflammatory cytokines in ovarian epithelial cells, according to our findings. Moesin (MSN) levels in ESC exosomes were substantially greater than in NSC exosomes (1.22e8±5.58e6 vs. 6.605e7±4.574e6, LFQ intensity), as shown by protein mass spectrometry and bioinformatics analysis. In ectopic stromal cells, ERa receptors stimulated the RhoA/Rock-2/MSN pathway. We discovered that downregulating exosomal moesin reduced NSC migration (about 3-fold change) and MMP9 expression (about 2-fold change). On the other hand, Exomsni inhibited angiogenesis and inflammatory cytokine release. In vivo the result of immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence demonstrated that exosomal MSN substantially modified the expression of MM9, VEGFR and p-VEGFR in polyclonal lesions. In addition, we discovered an elevation in the expression of proinflammatory factors in the surrounding tissue.Conclusion: Exosomal MSN derived from ectopic stromal cells can contribute to endometriosis progression by mediating the construction of a “migration-vascularization-inflammation” loop in the ectopic environment.

Abstract Background The increasing aging population has been posing a significant challenge to disease burden in developing countries. In particular, the contribution of population aging to and long term changes of disease burden of malignant neoplasm of female genital organs (MNFGO) have not been quantitatively demonstrated. Methods Data were collected from the Shanghai Vital Statistics System of Pudong New Area (PNA). Crude mortality rate (CMR), age-standardized mortality rate by Segi’s world standard population (ASMRW), and years of life lost (YLL) of MNFGO as the underlying cause of death in age and pathology types from 1995 to 2018 were calculated. The joinpoint regression was used to estimate the trends of those rates by identifying the annual percent changes (APCs), and the decomposition method was used to calculate the increased rates and the contribution resulting from demographic and non-demographic factors. Results From 1995 to 2018, a total of 2869 MNFGO-specific deaths were reported in PNA, accounting for 0.64% of the total deaths. The CMR and ASMRW of MNFGO were 9.23/105 person-years and 4.80/105 person-years, respectively. Ovary cancer was the most common cause of MNFGO death, accounting for 43.9% (1260/2869) of all MNFGO death. Other common causes of MNFGO death included cervix uteri cancer, uterus unspecified cancer, and corpus uteri cancer. Abstract Background With the growing threat of cancer to children’s health, it is necessary to analyze characteristics and trends of childhood cancer to formulate better cancer prevention strategies. Methods Data on the 430 children with cancer during 2002–2015 were collected from the Pudong Cancer Registry, diagnosed with the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology and categorized according to the International Classification of Childhood Cancer. The incidence rate, trends over time, and survival of patients grouped by sex, age, and region were explored using the Kaplan-Meier, Cox regression, and Joinpoint Regression models. Results The crude childhood cancer incidence and world age-standardized incidence rate (ASR) were 115.1/1,000,000 and 116.3/1,000,000 person-years. The two most frequent cancers were leukemia (136/430, 31.63%, ASR, 37.8/1,000,000 person-years) and central nervous system (CNS) tumors (86/430, 20.00%, ASR, 22.9/1,000,000 person-years). Our findings indicate that the survival rate for children between 10 and 15 years of age was higher than that for 5–10; and the survival rate for children who had leukemia was higher than that of children with CNS tumors. However, the overall incidence of childhood cancer, and leukemia, CNS tumors remained relatively stable in Pudong between 2002 and 2015. Conclusions The incidence and survival rate for childhood cancer patients varied by age and cancer type. The overall trends of childhood cancer incidence remained relatively stable in Pudong from 2002 to 2015 even though socioeconomic development has been unprecedentedly fast in this region.

Abstract Background To address change in the gender gap of life expectancy (GGLE) in Shanghai from 1973 to 2018, and to identify the major causes of death and age groups associated with the change over time. Methods The temporal trend in GGLE was evaluated using retrospective demographic analysis with Joinpoint regression. Causes of death were coded in accordance with the International Classification of Diseases and mapped with the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) cause list. The life table technique and decomposition method were used to express changes in GGLE. Results The trend of GGLE in Shanghai experienced two phases, i.e., a decrease from 8.4 to 4.2 years in the descent phase (1973–1999) and a fluctuation between 4.0 and 4.9 years in the plateau phase (1999–2018). The reduced age-specific mortality rates tended to concentrate to a narrower age range, from age 0–9 and above 30 years in the descent phase to age above 55 years in the plateau phase. Gastroesophageal and liver cancer, communicable, chronic respiratory, and digestive diseases were once the major contributors to narrow GGLE in the descent phase. While, importance should be attached to a widening effect on GGLE by lung cancer, cardiovascular diseases, other neoplasms like colorectal and pancreatic cancer, and diabetes in the recent plateau phase. Conclusions Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have made GGLE enter a plateau phase from a descent phase in Shanghai, China. Public efforts to reduce excess mortalities for male NCDs, cancers, cardiovascular diseases, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes in particular and health policies focused on the middle-aged and elderly population might further narrow GGLE. This will also ensure improvements in health and health equity in Shanghai China.

ObjectiveLiver cancer is one of the most common causes of cancer-related death. Understanding how demographic factors influence mortality due to liver cancer is crucial for optimizing disease-control strategies. We aimed to characterize the long-term trends in the mortality and years of life lost (YLL) of liver cancer in Shanghai, China, 1973–2019, and quantitatively analyze the contributions of demographic and non-demographic factors on the mortality of liver cancer.MethodsUsing mortality data from the Mortality Registration System of Pudong New Area, the largest district of Shanghai with a population of permanent resident of 5.68 million, during 1973–2019, we analyzed the temporal trends for the mortality rates and YLL by Joinpoint Regression Program. The difference decomposition method was employed to estimate the increasing mortality rates related to demographic and non-demographic factors.ResultsA total of 21,530 deaths from liver cancer occurred from 1973 to 2019. The crude mortality rates (CMR) and age-standardized mortality rate by Segi's world standard population (ASMRW) of liver cancer were 26.73/105 person-years and 15.72/105 person-years, respectively. The CMR, ASMRW, and YLL rates of liver cancer showed significantly decreasing trends in males, females and the total population from 1973 to 2019, whereas the upward trends in the YLL were seen in males, females and the total population (all P < 0.05). A significant upward trend was observed in the increased CMR caused by demographic factors, but the changing rate caused by non-demographic factors decreased.ConclusionsThe CMR and ASMRW of liver cancer continually decreased although YLL increased during 1973–2019 in Pudong New Area, Shanghai. The demographic factors, especially aging, might be responsible for the increase in the mortality of liver cancer. More effective prevention strategies tailored to liver cancer are needed to further reduce its disease burden in the elderly population.

Endometriosis (EMs) is one of the most common gynecological diseases, lacking effective treatment. EMs are currently being treated with small molecule targeted therapy, which has resulted in a significant reduction in patient suffering. Our previous studies have shown that sunitinib plays an obvious role in migration. Consequently, the purpose of this study is to explore the molecular mechanism by which sunitinib suppressed the ectopic endometrial migration. The ectopic endometrial cells from patients were divided into two groups: the control group and the sunitinib group. Co-IP and protein spectrum assay were employed to filtrate differential proteins between two groups, and then, our study discovered a signaling pathway, p-VEGFR-PI3K-AKT-YBX1-Snail, in the cell of EMs. To confirm this signaling pathway, VEGF165 was added to the sunitinib group to upregulate the expression of VEGFR. Next, the expression of p-VEGFR, PI3K, AKT, YBX1, and snail was measured in the control group and sunitinib group (compared with the control group: p-VEGFR, PI3K, AKT, YBX1, and snail, ∗∗∗∗P

Conventional enzyme-based continuous glucose sensors in interstitial fluid usually rely on dissolved oxygen as the electron-transfer mediator to bring electrons from oxidase to electrode while generating hydrogen peroxide. This may lead to several problems. First, the sensor may provide biased detection results owing to fluctuation of oxygen in interstitial fluid. Second, the polymer coatings that regulate the glucose/oxygen ratio can affect the dynamic response of the sensor. Third, the glucose oxidation reaction continuously produces corrosive hydrogen peroxide, which may compromise the long-term stability of the sensor. Here, we introduce an oxygen-independent nonenzymatic glucose sensor based on water splitting-assisted electrocatalysis for continuous glucose monitoring. For the water splitting reaction (i.e., hydrogen evolution reaction), a negative pretreatment potential is applied to produce a localized alkaline condition at the surface of the working electrode for subsequent nonenzymatic electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose. The reaction process does not require the participation of oxygen; therefore, the problems caused by oxygen can be avoided. The nonenzymatic sensor exhibits acceptable sensitivity, reliability, and biocompatibility for continuous glucose monitoring in hypoxic environments, as shown by the in vitro and in vivo measurements. Therefore, we believe that it is a promising technique for continuous glucose monitoring, especially for clinically hypoxic patients.

Background: International travel during the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic carries a certain magnitude of infection risk both to travelers and their destination, which may be difficult to assess in the early stage. The characteristics of common infectious diseases of tourists may provide some clues to identify the high-risk travelers and protect susceptible population.Methods: From among 48,444 travelers screened at Shanghai Port, we analyzed 577 travelers with 590 infectious diseases for age, sex, disease type, and World Health Organization (WHO) regions. We used the Joinpoint Regression Program to identify the average percent changes (APC) in the various trends among these individuals.Results: Hepatitis B, syphilis, and HIV were the most common infectious diseases in travelers entering China, and Hepatitis B, pulmonary tuberculosis, and syphilis in Chinese nationals traveling abroad (overall detection rates, 1.43 and 0.74%, respectively; P < 0.05). Africa (2.96%), the Americas (1.68%), and the Western Pacific (1.62%) exhibited the highest detection rates. This trend did not decrease since the COVID-19 pandemic (P > 0.05) and rather showed an upward trend with increasing age [APC 95% CI = 5.46 (3.41,7.56)%, P < 0.05]. However, there were no evident trends in monthly infection rates of travelers exiting and entering China from different WHO regions (all P > 0.05).Conclusion: Travelers always carry a transmission risk of common infectious diseases. It may be reasonable to adjust strategies for airport screening and quarantine according to the age and departure area of travelers to prevent and control new infectious diseases.

An aircraft platform, ground-based disdrometer, cloud radar, radiometer, and automatic station were combined to study a snowfall case (16:30–21:00 observed by ground cloud radar) on the Yangqing Mountains in Beijing. Comparing the variation of ice habit and number concentration at aircraft altitude (2.9–3.2 km) and ground, we discussed the ice growth mechanisms in the Beijing Mountains. Results indicated that the snowfall was steady but not strong with reflectivity less than 20dBZ, and cloud top altitude less than 4.5 km. The number concentrations for both liquid and ice crystals at aircraft altitude and ground were very similar, both dominated by small particles at diameters of 0.1–1.2 mm, and the proportion of mean number concentrations at small diameters both in the aircraft and on the ground was large, peaking at 44 L−1 mm−1 and 8826 L−1 mm−1 respectively, and decreased rapidly as the diameter increased. There was no mixed phase in clouds with little liquid water. Particles were relatively regular, and were transparent with dendritic and disk-hexagonal shapes. The ice crystals and snowflakes were mainly grown by the deposition and aggregation, rarely by the riming process, and no secondary ice formation was observed.

Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent gynecological disease. The pathogenesis of endometriosis remains controversial, although it is generally accepted that the inflammatory immune response plays a crucial role in this process. Mast cells (MCs) are multifunctional innate immune cells that accumulate in endometriotic lesions. However, the molecular mechanism by which estrogen modulates MCs in the development of endometriosis is not well understood. Here we report that estrogen can induce the expression of NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) through estrogen receptor (ER)-α via the estrogen responsive element (ERE) in MCs. Such transcriptional regulation is necessary for the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome and the production of mature interleukin (IL)-1β in MCs. Targeted inhibition of NLRP3 significantly restrained lesion progression and fibrogenesis in a mouse model of endometriosis. Collectively, these findings suggest that MCs contribute to the development of endometriosis through NLRP3 inflammasome activation mediated by nuclear-initiated estrogen signaling pathway.

Accurate snowfall forecasting and quantitative snowfall estimation remain challenging due to the complexity and variability of snow microphysical properties. In this paper, the microphysical characteristics of snowfall in the Yanqing mountainous area of Beijing are investigated by using a Particle Size and Velocity (PARSIVEL) disdrometer. Results show that the high snowfall intensity process has large particle-size distribution (PSD) peak concentration, but the distribution of its spectrum width is much smaller than that of moderate or low snowfall intensity. When the snowfall intensity is high, the corresponding Dm value is smaller and the Nw value is larger. Comparison between the fitted μ−Λ relationship and the relationships of different locations show that there are regional differences. Based on dry snow samples, the Ze−SR relationship fitted in this paper is more consistent with the Ze−SR relationship of dry snow in Nanjing, China. The fitted ρs−Dm relationship of dry snow is close to the relationship in Pyeongchang, Republic of Korea, but the relationship of wet snow shows greatly difference. At last, the paper analyzes the statistics on velocity and diameter distribution of snow particles according to different snowfall intensities.

Severe hailstorms frequently occurred in Beijing between May and August 2021, leading to extensive hail damage. These hailstorms were observed by radar and satellite data, and reported by surface observers. In this study, the spectral and cloud microphysical characteristics of typical Beijing events in 2021 were analyzed using Himawari-8 satellite products and ground-based S-band weather radar data obtained from the Beijing Meteorological Bureau. The relationship between Himawari-8 brightness temperature differences (BTD) and radar reflectivity was also investigated. The results revealed that the significant spectral depression of brightness temperatures (BTs) in hail clouds was observed by a satellite. Furthermore, the stronger the radar reflectivity was, the more rapidly BTD decreased, with a nonlinear relationship between them. The results of cloud physical characteristics show that, for cloud-top heights above 10 km, the cloud effective radius was about 25 μm, with a cloud-top temperature of 225 K during these hail events. By means of Gaussian fitting, the BT threshold value (11.2 μm) was determined by satellite at 230 K, with a BTD focused on 1.9 K when hailstorms occurred. These results will help us better understand the characteristics of hailstorms, while also providing information for future hail suppression in Beijing.

Reducing or eliminating cracks caused by shrinkage of cementitious materials remains a daunting challenge for construction engineers. Drying shrinkage and autogenous shrinkage are the main shrinkage types in the service process of cement-based materials, which have a great impact on engineering applications. If cracks in concrete generate by drying or autogenous shrinkage, the mechanical properties, water resistance and durability of concrete will be also affected. It is an effective method to use chemical admixtures to inhibit the shrinkage of cement-based materials. Polycarboxylate plasticizer (PCE) is an important chemical admixture in cement-based materials and is widely used in practical engineering. It can bring great value by reducing the shrinkage effect through molecular design. Through our innovative design, a series of shrinkage-reducing polycarboxylate superplasticizers (SRPs) were synthesized, their molecular structures were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and their molecular properties were determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Furthermore, the shrinkage performances at different ages of the mortars containing the synthesized SRPs with different structures were systematically evaluated. The results showed that compared with the blank sample, the dry shrinkage rate and free shrinkage rate of the mortars containing SRP decreased by over 20% and 15%, respectively. Additionally, the shrinkage rates of the mortars containing SRP were significantly lower than that of the mortar containing conventional PCE, and moreover, the water-reducing performance was improved compared to conventional PCE. Based on the experimental results of surface tension and evaporation rate of different SRP solutions, the mechanism of the shrinkage-reducing effect was probed, as expected to provide guidance for the design and development of new shrinkage-reducing admixtures.

Abstract Background Icotinib has been widely used in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and have significantly enhanced the overall survival rate of NSCLC patients. However, acquired drug resistance limits its clinical efficacy. Tumor cell-derived exosomes have been reported to participate in various biological processes, including tumor invasion, metastasis and drug resistance. Materials and methods In the present study, drug resistance was measured by MTT assay. Exosomes were extracted from the cell supernatant using ultracentrifugation and identified by exosomal marker. HCC827 cells were treated with exosomes derived from icotinib-resistant (IR) HCC827 to observe the invasion and migration of parent cells. The expression of exo-mRNA was analyzed by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). In addition, 10 exo-mRNAs detecting from the plasma and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of NSCLC patients with icotinib treatment were used to establish a new drug resistant-warning formula. Results The oncogene MET into exosomes was identified from icotinib-resistant lung cancer cells, and this was also presented in exosomes in NSCLC patients diagnosed with cancer metastasis after icotinib treatment. The knockdown of MET in exosomes significantly decreased the ability of invasion and migration in HCC827 cells. Conclusion It was suggested that MET might be specifically package and transferred by exosomes to modify the invasion and migration ability of the surrounding icotinib-sensitive cells.
