Sialic acids play crucial roles in cell surface glycans of both eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms, mediating various biological processes, including cell–cell interactions, development, immune response, oncogenesis and host–pathogen interactions. This review focuses on the β-anomeric form of N-acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac), particularly its binding affinity towards various proteins, as elucidated by solved protein structures. Specifically, we delve into the binding mechanisms of Neu5Ac to proteins involved in sequestering and transporting Neu5Ac in Gram-negative bacteria, with implications for drug design targeting these proteins as antimicrobial agents. Unlike the initial assumptions, structural analyses revealed significant variability in the Neu5Ac binding pockets among proteins, indicating diverse evolutionary origins and binding modes. By comparing these findings with existing structures from other systems, we can effectively highlight the intricate relationship between protein structure and Neu5Ac recognition, emphasizing the need for tailored drug design strategies to inhibit Neu5Ac-binding proteins across bacterial species.

The digital economy (DE) is a new driver for enhancing total factor productivity (TFP). Using panel data from 30 provinces in China between 2011 and 2022, this study measures DE and TFP using the entropy-weighted TOPSIS method and the Global Malmquist–Luenberger method and further examines the impact of DE on the TFP of industries. The main findings are as follows: (1) DE can significantly improve TFP, though the extent of improvement varies. DE has the greatest impact on the TFP of the service industry, followed by the manufacturing industry, with the weakest effect on the agricultural industry. (2) The enhancement effect of DE on agriculture and the service industry is more pronounced in the central and western regions, while the improvement effect on manufacturing is more evident in the eastern region. (3) DE has facilitated the improvement of TFP in manufacturing industries such as textiles and special equipment manufacturing, as well as in service industries like wholesale and retail. However, it has not had a significant impact on the TFP of industries such as pharmaceutical manufacturing and real estate. This study has significant theoretical value and policy implications for China and other developing countries in exploring DE and achieving high-quality industrial development.

Abstract Background The contribution of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) microbiota and mycobiota to silicosis has recently been noticed. However, many confounding factors can influence the accuracy of BALF microbiota and mycobiota studies, resulting in inconsistencies in the published results. In this cross-sectional study, we systematically investigated the effects of “sampling in different rounds of BALF” on its microbiota and mycobiota. We further explored the relationship between silicosis fatigue and the microbiota and mycobiota. Methods After obtaining approval from the ethics board, we collected 100 BALF samples from 10 patients with silicosis. Demographic data, clinical information, and blood test results were also collected from each patient. The characteristics of the microbiota and mycobiota were defined using next-generation sequencing. However, no non-silicosis referent group was examined, which was a major limitation of this study. Results Our analysis indicated that subsampling from different rounds of BALF did not affect the alpha- and beta-diversities of microbial and fungal communities when the centrifuged BALF sediment was sufficient for DNA extraction. In contrast, fatigue status significantly influenced the beta-diversity of microbes and fungi (Principal Coordinates Analysis, P = 0.001; P = 0.002). The abundance of Vibrio alone could distinguish silicosis patients with fatigue from those without fatigue (area under the curve = 0.938, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.870–1.000). (1) Background: Virtual agglomeration reshapes the organizational form and drives the sustainable development of the manufacturing industry. How to measure the virtual agglomeration level of the manufacturing industry is an important and difficult problem for current research. (2) Methods: In this study, we constructed a social network for the virtual agglomeration of the manufacturing industry, with each industry representing a node in the network. We also measured the virtual agglomeration level of the overall manufacturing industry using the network edge number and network density indicators in the social network analysis method. Each sub-industry virtual agglomeration level was measured using the point centrality index. Furthermore, the virtual agglomeration characteristics of the manufacturing industry were examined through cluster analysis and core–periphery analysis. The data sources include the supply chain statistics and virtual agglomeration text data of manufacturing enterprises. The virtual agglomeration text data were obtained with the help of Python crawler technology. Two types of data were matched, and the virtual agglomeration data of 29 manufacturing industries in China from 2012 to 2022 was obtained. (3) Results: The virtual agglomeration level of the overall manufacturing industry is constantly improving, but there are large differences among different industries. Moreover, the virtual agglomeration of the manufacturing industry has the characteristics of both specialization and diversification. The virtual agglomeration social network of the manufacturing industry is experiencing an evolution process from a “core–periphery” structure to a “core–semi-periphery–periphery” structure. (4) Conclusions: This study provides a theoretical basis and practical reference for improving the virtual agglomeration level of the manufacturing industry.

For the problem that the fault states of parallel shaft gearboxes are difficult to identify, a diagnostic method is proposed to optimize variational modal decomposition (VMD) and t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding (t-SNE) using an improved dung beetle optimization algorithm I have checked and revised all. (IDBO). IDBO is obtained by amplifying dung beetle optimization (DBO) using strategies such as chaos mapping, Levy flight policy, and dynamic adaptive weighting. IDBO is employed to optimize VMD, extracting decomposed eigenvalues restructured into high-dimensional feature vectors. Subsequently, we employ the t-SNE algorithm for dimensionality reduction to eliminate redundancy, obtaining two-dimensional vectors. Finally, these vectors are input into a support vector machine (SVM) for fault diagnosis. We apply IDBO, grey wolf optimization (GWO), DBO, and the sparrow search algorithm (SSA) to both benchmark functions and VMD, conducting a performance comparison. The results demonstrate that IDBO exhibits superior convergence speed and global search capability, effectively suppressing modal aliasing issues in VMD, thereby enhancing the algorithm’s robustness. Through experimental fault diagnosis on a gear transmission system, we compare our proposed method with EMD + t-SNE and traditional VMD + t-SNE feature extraction approaches. The experimental results indicate that the fault diagnosis accuracy reaches 100% after processing the fault signals with IDBO-VMD + t-SNE. This method proves to be an effective fault diagnosis approach specifically tailored for parallel-axis gearboxes, providing a reliable means to enhance diagnostic accuracy.

En este artículo, se examinan las obras de los tres traductores chinos más influyentes delos poemas de García Lorca, estimados por la crítica de poesía china. Al describir y comparar lassimilitudes y diferencias del estilo lingüístico de sus traducciones, este trabajo intenta explicar suscausas en las perspectivas sociales y culturales. La investigación de estilo lingüístico que se lleva acabo en este artículo se basa en la teoría de "desfamiliarización" presentada por los formalistas rusos,que fue complementado después por la escuela de Praga con la teoría de "foregrounding". Mediantela combinación de los mecanismos específicos del lenguaje "extrañificacado" y puesto en"foregrounding" de la poesía china moderna y la metodología proporcionada por Estudios deTraducción de Corpus, el presente artítuclo realizan análisis cualitativos y cuantitativos del corpus adhoc de las versiones chinas de unos catorce poemas de García Lorca. En primer lugar, se cuantifica elestilo general de los tres traductores, para luego realizar un análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo másespecífico sobre sus características lingüísticas de "foregrounding" y revelar las característicasespecíficas del lenguaje poético "extrañificado" de cada uno de ellos, a las cuales finalmente se danexplicaciones teniendo en cuenta las experiencias personales, los conceptos literarios y artísticos delos traductores y los diferentes antecedentes sociales e históricos en los que se encontraron.

This paper presents an empirical study of the directionality of the translation of Chinese adverbs of degree. We adopt the corpus-based quantitative methodology and the qualitative method to analyze the differences between direct and inverse translations of adverbs of degree in a self-built parallel corpus. The result shows that the Spanish translators prefer to use the equivalence method, while the Chinese tend to use the omission method. Moreover, the inverse translations present a much more prominent weakening of the degree than the direct ones. We find that the subjectivity of the translator and the characteristics of Chinese adverbs of degree, such as the blurred border between different degrees and semantic degeneracy, are the main factors of the discrepancy between direct and inverse translations. This work complements the studies on translation directionality and the translation of adverbs of degree. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
