20. Catalytic graphitization of furan resin carbon by lanthanum.

Abstract

The catalytic graphitization of furan resin carbon by lanthanum has been investigated in this paper. A definite volume of lanthanum chloride ethanol solution was dispersed throughout furan resin. The resulting resin was cured at 180 °C for 2 h, followed by carbonization under Ar atmosphere at about 600 °C for 1 h. The resin carbon containing lanthanum was then heat treated at different temperatures. The extent of graphitization of the samples was examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The 2θ value was obtained from the centroid of the (002) diffraction peaks and the mean crystallite size (Lc) and interlayer spacing (d002) were calculated using the Scherrer equation and the Bragg equation respectively. The morphology of furan resin carbon was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. The results indicate that lanthanum has a good catalytic activity for the graphitization of furan resin carbon. The extent of graphitization increases with the increase of lanthanum content, and the minimum value of d002 is 0.3360 nm at HTT = 2400°C and 18 wt% lanthanum. Additionally, the related catalytic mechanism for the graphitization of furan resin carbon by lanthanum was also discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

21. Tetraphenylethylene and N-isopropylacrylamide Block Polymer-Grafted Carbon Dots with Their Application in Cellular Imaging

Abstract

Carbon dots (CDs) grafted with block polymer of tetraphenylethylene (TPE) and N-isopropylacrylamide (CD-g-poly(TPE-block-NIPAM)) were synthesized, which are aggregation-induced emission (AIE) nanoparticles. The CD-g-poly(TPE-block-NIPAM) exhibited different fluorescence behaviors in tetrahydrofuran (THF) and water respectively. In THF, the CD-g-poly(TPE-block-NIPAM) could fluoresce, but only from CDs, and the TPE block showed no fluorescence. The fluorescence of CDs was quenched and the TPE block showed AIE, when the CD-g-poly(TPE-block-NIPAM) were dispersed in water. The CD-g-poly(TPE-block-NIPAM) showed no cytotoxicity, which could be easily internalized by human breast cancer cells and human embryonic kidney cells with high fluorescence, they can be used as fluorescent tracers for living cells.
