Abstract Background An association between testicular cancer and Down syndrome has been reported by several studies. Down syndrome with cryptorchidism and retroperitoneal mixed germ cell tumours is rare, and yolk sac tumours are often considered secondary components of mixed germ cell tumours. Herein, we present a rare case of retroperitoneal mixed germ cell tumour with cryptorchidism accompanied by yolk sac tumour and seminoma in a patient with Down syndrome, along with its imaging features. Case presentation A 42-year-old man was admitted to the hospital for 6 months due to a worsening abdominal pain that was followed by syncope for 8 h. There was a significant increase in AFP and β-HCG levels. An enhanced computed tomography (CT) scan of the entire abdomen showed a mixed cystic solid mass in the retroperitoneal space. Fluorine-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/CT examination showed an abnormal increase in the FDG uptake in the parenchymal part of the mass, with a maximum standardised uptake value of approximately 10.5. The pathological diagnosis was retroperitoneal mixed germ cell tumour (yolk sac tumour + seminoma). One and a half months postoperatively, the tumour recurred. Consequently, the patient underwent chemotherapy, and after one course of treatment, the patient developed bone marrow suppression. Finally, he died due to complications. Conclusions Yolk sac tumours, the main components of mixed germ cell tumours, are rare in adults and exhibit rapid growth, heightened malignancy, and poor prognoses. CT features play a crucial role in diagnosis. Down syndrome is a high-risk factor for malignant testicular germ cell tumours. Therefore, comprehensive examinations for gonadal and germ cell tumours in patients with Down syndrome are imperative and should be prioritised by clinicians.

Abstract Background Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) is a common pathogen for respiratory infections in children. Previous studies have reported respiratory tract microbial disturbances associated with MP infection (MPI); however, since the COVID-19 pandemic, respiratory virome data in school-aged children with MPI remains insufficient. This study aims to explore the changes in the respiratory virome caused by MPI after the COVID-19 pandemic to enrich local epidemiological data. Methods Clinical samples from 70 children with MPI (70 throat swab samples and 70 bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) samples) and 78 healthy controls (78 throat swab samples) were analyzed using viral metagenomics. Virus reads were calculated and normalized using MEGAN.6, followed by statistical analysis. Results Principal Coordinate Analysis (PCoA) showed that viral community diversity is a significant difference between disease cohorts and healthy controls. After MPI, the number of virus species in the upper respiratory tract (URT) increased obviously, and the abundance of families Poxviridae, Retroviridae, and Iridoviridae, which infect vertebrates, rose evidently, particularly the species BeAn 58,085 virus (BAV). Abstract MiRNAs and lncRNAs are two essential noncoding RNAs. Predicting associations between noncoding RNAs and diseases can significantly improve the accuracy of early diagnosis.With the continuous breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, researchers increasingly use deep learning methods to predict associations. Nevertheless, most existing methods face two major issues: low prediction accuracy and the limitation of only being able to predict a single type of noncoding RNA-disease association. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a method called K-Means and multigraph Contrastive Learning for predicting associations among miRNAs, lncRNAs, and diseases (K-MGCMLD). The K-MGCMLD model is divided into four main steps. The first step is the construction of a heterogeneous graph. The second step involves down sampling using the K-means clustering algorithm to balance the positive and negative samples. The third step is to use an encoder with a Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) architecture to extract embedding vectors. Multigraph contrastive learning, including both local and global graph contrastive learning, is used to help the embedding vectors better capture the latent topological features of the graph. The fourth step involves feature reconstruction using the balanced positive and negative samples and the embedding vectors fed into an XGBoost classifier for multi-association classification prediction. Experimental results have shown that AUC value for miRNA-disease association is 0.9542, lncRNA-disease association is 0.9603, and lncRNA-miRNA association is 0.9687. Additionally, this study has conducted case analyses using K-MGCMLD, which has validated the associations of all the top 30 miRNAs predicted to be associated with lung cancer and Alzheimer’s diseases.

Abstract The Optimal electrode configuration of Electroencephalograms (EEG) systems for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) detection and monitoring in non-clinical settings, i.e. number of electrodes and the positions of the electrodes, remains to be explored. In the current study, we explored the optimization of electrode configuration for MCI detection. We used a 32-channel EEG device to record the data of 21 MCI patients and 20 cognitively normal elderly (NC) undergoing working memory (WM) tasks. Based on the differential value (MCI group vs. NC group) from the Power Spectral Density (PSD) value of each electrode in θ and α frequency band during WM coding stage, six different electrode configurations were obtained: (1) four electrodes in the occipital lobe (OCL4); (2) three electrodes in the prefrontal lobe (PRL3); (3) four electrodes in the parietal lobe (PLL4), (4) eight electrodes in occipital combined parietal lobe (OPL8), (5) seven electrodes in occipital combined prefrontal lobe (OPL7); and (6) seven electrodes in parietal combined prefrontal lobe (PPL7). A multi-parameter combination-assisted binary logistic regression model was established to distinguish two groups. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to evaluate the MCI diagnostic power of each electrode configuration. The area under curve (AUC) of the ROC of electrode configurations OCL4, PRL3, PLL4, OPL8, OPL7 and PPL7 were 0.765, 0.683, 0.729, 0.83, 0.788, and 0.769, respectively. And the sensitivity of six electrode configurations were 0.962, 0.794, 0.873, 0.943, 0.859, and 0.938, respectively. Among these six configurations, OCL4, i.e. PO3, PO4, PO8, and PO7, had the highest sensitivity 96.2%, which meant that relying solely on these four electrodes of the occipital lobe had the potential to serve as an objective tool for preliminary screening of MCI. The abnormal brain rhythm characteristics of the frontal, parietal, and occipital lobes in the memory encoding stage of MCI provide a new perspective for MCI-WM impairment, which has the potential to be a novel biomarker for the early detection of pathological age-related cognitive decline. Further, a potential four-electrode configuration may be used for a novel detecting and monitoring EEG system of MCI in non-clinical settings.

Abstract The planar two-loop scalar Feynman integrals contributing to the massive NNLO QCD corrections for W-boson pair production via quark-antiquark annihilation can be classified into three family branches, each of which is reduced to a distinct set of master integrals (MIs), totaling 27, 45 and 15, respectively. These MIs are analytically calculated using the method of differential equations, with solutions expanded as Taylor series in the dimensional regulator ϵ. For the first two family branches, the differential systems can be successfully transformed into canonical form by adopting appropriate bases of MIs. This enables the MIs of these family branches to be expressed either as Goncharov polylogarithms (GPLs) or as one-fold integrals over GPLs, up to O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ (ϵ 4). In contrast, the differential system for the third family branch can only be cast into a form linear in ϵ due to the presence of elliptic integrals. The solution to this linear-form differential system is expressed in an iterated form owing to the strictly lower-triangular structure of the coefficient matrices at ϵ = 0. Our analytic expressions for these MIs are verified with high accuracy against the numerical results from the AMFlow package.

Abstract The discrepancy between the CDF measurement and the Standard Model theoretical prediction for the W-boson mass underscores the importance of conducting high-precision studies on the W boson, which is one of the predominant objectives of proposed future e + e − colliders. We investigate in detail the production of W-boson pairs at e + e − colliders, and compute the next-to-next-to-leading order mixed QCD-EW corrections to both the integrated cross section and various kinematic distributions. By employing the method of differential equations, we analytically calculate the two-loop master integrals for the mixed QCD-EW virtual corrections to e + e − → W + W − . Utilizing the Magnus transformation, we derive a set of canonical master integrals for each integral family. This canonical basis satisfies a system of differential equations in which the dependence on the dimensional regulator is linearly factorized from the kinematics. We then express all these canonical master integrals as Taylor series in ϵ up to ϵ 4, with coefficients articulated in terms of Goncharov polylogarithms up to weight four. Upon applying our analytic expressions of these master integrals to the phenomenological analysis of W-pair production, we observe that the O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ (αα s ) corrections are significantly impactful in the α(0) scheme, particularly in certain phase-space regions. However, these mixed QCD-EW corrections can be heavily suppressed by adopting the G μ scheme.

Abstract Thirty-six structurally diverse sesquiterpenoids, including caryolanes (1–12), germacranes (13–16), isodaucane (17), cadinanes (18–22), epicubenols (23, 24), oplopanane (25), pallenanes (26, 27), and eudesmanes (28–36), were isolated from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces fulvorobeus derived from Elephas maximus feces. Pallenane is a kind of rarely reported sesquiterpene with a distinctive C5/C3 bicyclic skeleton and was firstly found from microbial source. The structures of fifteen new compounds (1–4, 13–15, 17, 18, 22, 23, 25–28) were established through detailed spectroscopic data analysis, which included data from experimental and calculated ECD spectra as well as Mosher’s reagent derivative method. Compound 34 exhibited moderate antifungal activity against Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii with MIC values of 50 μg/mL. It effectively inhibited biofilm formation and destroyed the preformed biofilm, as well as hindered the adhesion of Cryptococcus species. As an emerging technical means, high-throughput phenotyping (HTP) of crops aims to quickly and accurately reveal the relationship between crop traits and genes as well as environment by analyzing a large amount of phenotypic data, thereby optimizing breeding efficiency and accuracy, and improving crop yield and quality, solving the problem of increased demand for food in the context of increasing global population and environmental deterioration. After analyzing the key technical architecture of HTP of crops, the methods and shortcomings of collecting, sorting and analyzing crop phenotypic information are explained from the aspects of sensors, multi-scale observation and big data mining. On this basis, the main application areas of crop phenotyping analysis in recent years were reviewed. The study confirmed that crop HTP analysis is an effective tool for quantifying crop traits, monitoring crop growth, optimizing field management, and improving breeding efficiency. However, there is potential for the improvement of its application performance. Finally, the challenges, optimization solutions, broad prospects and future development trends of HTP phenotyping of crops were discussed. It shows that there are still challenges in data processing and analysis, cross-species, cross-organization, and cross-environment applications. However, with the increasing development of cutting-edge technologies such as cloud big data processing platforms and artificial intelligence, which have great advantages in processing large-volume and high-complexity data, combined with biotechnology and genomics research methods, HTP of crops will play a pivotal role in combating food shortages caused by global environmental changes and population increase.

Abstract Background Evidence has shown that oxidative stress induced by high glucose microenvironment in placenta of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is indispensable to the progression of this condition. Adipokine chemerin was linked with GDM, yet the roles of chemerin in placental oxidative stress and its underlying effects on GDM in vivo remain elusive. Methods We firstly analyzed the disparities of oxidative stress levels in placenta between GDM and normoglycaemic pregnant women, and then added recombinant active chemerin to the high-glucose treated human trophoblastic cells to investigate effects of chemerin on reactive oxygen species (ROS), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) and intake of glucose. Finally, a GDM animal model induced by high-fat diet (HFD) was established and the impacts of chemerin on oxidative stress of placenta and fetal growth of GDM were explored. Results Analysis of human samples showed that the extent of lipid peroxidation in placenta was significantly elevated in GDM patients compared with their normoglycaemic counterparts. In the high glucose cell model, active chemerin lessened the content of ROS, heightened the index of T-AOC and stimulated glucose uptake in a concentration-dependent manner. Importantly, we successfully constructed a GDM mouse model through HFD. The treatment of chemerin was found to alleviate the high blood glucose levels in these HFD-fed pregnant mice and attenuate the excessive growth of their offspring. Our data also revealed that chemerin might counteract placental oxidative stress in HFD mice by improving the activity of superoxide dismutase. Conclusions The present study further elucidated the molecular biology of chemerin, which plays a pivotal role in ameliorating oxidative stress and hyperglycemia, resulting in improved fetal overgrowth in GDM. Abstract Sodium oligomannate (GV-971), an oligosaccharide drug approved in China for treating mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s disease (AD), was previously found to recondition the gut microbiota and limit altered peripheral Th1 immunity in AD transgenic mice. As a follow-up study, we here made advances by pinpointing a Lactobacillus murinus (L.m.) strain that highly expressed a gene encoding a putative adhesin containing Rib repeats (Ribhigh-L.m.) particularly enriched in 5XFAD transgenic mice. Mechanistically, Ribhigh-L.m. adherence to the gut epithelia upregulated fecal metabolites, among which lactate ranked as the top candidate. Excess lactate stimulated the epithelial production of serum amyloid A (SAA) in the gut via the GPR81-NFκB axis, contributing to peripheral Th1 activation. Moreover, GV-971 disrupted the adherence of Ribhigh-L.m. to gut epithelia via direct binding to Rib, which corrected the excess lactate, reduced SAA, and alleviated Th1-skewed inflammation. Together, we gained further insights into the molecular link between gut bacteria and AD progression and the mechanism of GV-971 in treating AD.

Abstract Background Sarcopenia is an age-related, insidious, crippling but curable degenerative disease if diagnosed and treated early. However, no accessible and accurate early screening method is available for community settings that does not require specialized personnel. One of the hallmarks of sarcopenia is the pathological changes of muscle fiber type composition and motor unit firing patterns. Surface electromyography (sEMG) may serve as an effective tool for detecting differences between healthy and sarcopenic individuals due to its superior wearability and accessibility compared to other screening methods such as medical imaging and bioimpedance measurements, making it ideal for community-based sarcopenic screening. Our study aims to explore sEMG biomarkers that can be used for screening or diagnosis of sarcopenia. Results We collected multi-channel sEMG signals from six forearm muscles of 98 healthy and 55 sarcopenic community-dwelling older adults. Participants performed grasp tasks at 20% and 50% of maximum voluntary contraction (MVC). Hexagons created by various EMG features, normalized with respect to respective MVC, and symmetry analyses were performed to estimate multi-muscle coordination patterns. An innovative index, namely incenter–circumcenter distance of muscle coordination (ICDMC), is proposed to discriminate between the healthy and sarcopenic groups. We utilized non-parametric tests to compare the ICDMC between the two groups, considering a p-value less than 0.05 statistically significant. The results showed that at 20% MVC, ICDMCs from root mean square (RMS), mean absolute value (MAV), slope sign changes (SSC) and wavelength (WL) showed statistically significant differences. More insights of this sEMG manifestation of sarcopenia were revealed by gender- and age-stratifications analyses. Conclusions Our results demonstrated that there are clear sEMG manifestations of altered muscle coordination in sarcopenic patients. More consistent force generation patterns were observed in the sarcopenic group, especially at lower contraction intensities. The novel ICDMC can quantify differences between sarcopenic and healthy muscle. These results warrant further research to further develop more accessible sarcopenia screening strategies in community settings based on electrophysiological measurements such as sEMG.

Abstract Objective Expand genetic screening for atypical Type I sialidosis (ST‐1) could address its underdiagnosed in both progressive myoclonic ataxia (PMA) and ataxia patients. To evaluate the potential founder effect of mutation in the population. Methods We enrolled 231 patients with PMA or ataxia from the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University. Through Whole Exome Sequencing and Sanger sequencing, we identified the causative gene in patients. Haplotype analysis was employed to explore a potential founder effect of the NEU1 c.544A>G mutation. Results A total of 31 patients from 23 unrelated families were genetically diagnosed with ST‐1. A significant 80.6% of these patients were homozygous for the c.544A>G mutation. We discovered six different NEU1 variants, including two novel mutations: c.951_968del and c.517T>G. The mean age of onset was 18.0 ± 7.1 years. The clinical spectrum of ST‐1 featured ataxia and myoclonus as the most common initial symptoms. Over 40% suffered from controlled generalized tonic–clonic seizures. Mobility and independence varied greatly across the cohort. Cherry‐red spots were rare, occurring in just 9.5% (2/21) of patients. Brain MRIs were typically unremarkable, except for two patients with unusual findings. EEGs showed diffuse paroxysmal activity in 17 patients. The c.544A>G mutation in NEU1 is a founder variant in Fujian, with a unique haplotype prevalent in East Asians. Interpretation ST‐1 should be suspected in patients with PMA or ataxia in Southeast China, even without macular cherry‐red spots and seizures, and the premier test could be a variant screening of the founder variant NEU1 c.544A>G.

Abstract FARS2‐associated hereditary spastic paraplegia, later onset spastic paraplegia type 77, is a rarely neurodegenerative disease. Here, we reported two affected siblings in an autosomal recessive spastic paraplegia family with a pseudo‐homozygous missense variant and Alu‐mediated exon 5 deletion in FARS2. Both patients gradually developed altered gaits and weakness in both lower limbs. In our literature review, spastic paraplegia type 77 shows high heterogeneity in clinical manifestations. Our study broadens the scope of pathogenic mechanisms of SPG77 resulting from compound heterozygous mutations in FARS2 and provides strong evidence that deletion in FARS2 due to recombination event mediated by Alu element.

Abstract While prior studies have emphasized that overqualified employees are considered valuable and scarce resources for organizational innovation, there has been insufficient exploration of the process through which these employees utilize their advantageous resources to gain additional new resources and ultimately foster innovative behaviors. This study draws on conservation of resources theory to build a theoretical model that outlines how overqualified employees affect their acquisition of competence-based resource (i.e., role breadth self-efficacy) and subsequent innovative work behavior. Results from a multiwave field study revealed that perceived overqualification is positively associated with employees’ role breadth self-efficacy, which in turn prompts them to engage in innovative work behavior. The positive indirect effect of overqualification on innovative work behavior via role breadth self-efficacy is stronger when overqualified employees perceive a higher (versus lower) level of job autonomy. Overall, this study extends theory by demonstrating how overqualified employees engage in resource acquisition and utilization processes to overcome potential resource depletions and foster innovative work behavior.

Abstract Aim Mitochondrial dysfunction is a critical factor in the pathogenesis of septic cardiomyopathy (SCM). Mitochondrial anchored protein ligase (MAPL), a small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) E3 ligase, plays a significant role in mitochondrial function. However, the role of MAPL in SCM remains unclear. Methods To investigate the role of MAPL in SCM, cardiomyocyte-specific MAPL knockout mice were generated. A cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) procedure was employed to induce a sepsis-like condition. Results The expression of MAPL in heart tissues and H9C2 cardiomyocytes was elevated following CLP challenge or lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation. MAPL deficiency ameliorated CLP-induced cardiac injury, dysfunction, and inflammation, and also improved the survival rate of mice following CLP operation. Additionally, MAPL deficiency or knockdown inhibited LPS-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis, improved mitochondrial structural abnormalities, and increased ATP production. Furthermore, MAPL knockdown mitigated LPS-induced reductions in mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Mechanistically, the expression of dynamin-related protein 1 (drp1) in the mitochondria of heart tissues or H9C2 cardiomyocytes was elevated under septic conditions. Accordingly, the SUMOylation of drp1 in heart tissues or H9C2 cardiomyocytes was increased under sepsis conditions, which was reduced by MAPL knockout or knockdown. Conclusion Our results reveal that MAPL promotes cardiac injury/dysfunction and inflammation in SCM. Deficiency or knockdown of MAPL alleviates SCM by reducing drp1 SUMOylation as well as drp1-mediated mitochondrial dysfunction. These findings suggest that targeting MAPL may represent a therapeutic strategy for patients with SCM.

Abstract Background Eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases are the rare gastrointestinal disorders. To our knowledge, there have been no reports of eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases with overall gastrointestinal tract involvement causing liver abscess in an older patient. Case presentation We report a 68-year-old man with eosinophilic gastrointestinal disease with overall gastrointestinal tract involvement. He was admitted with suspected acute gastroenteritis, and histological examination showed eosinophilic infiltration accompanied by liver abscess. The collected pus was tested for Metagenomics Next-Generation Sequencing and confirmed the presence of Klebsiella pneumoniae. Conclusions We conducted a literature review on the complications of eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases and discussed how eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases lead to liver abscess caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Abstract Most vertebrates, including humans, are highly adept at detecting and encoding biological motion, even when it is portrayed by just a few point lights attached to the head and major joints. However, the function of subcortical regions in biological motion perception has been scarcely explored. Here, we investigate the role of the superior colliculus in local biological motion processing. Using high-field (3 T) and ultra-high-field (7 T) functional magnetic resonance imaging, we record the neural responses of the superior colliculus to scrambled point-light walkers (with local kinematics retained) in both humans and male macaque monkeys. Results show that the superior colliculus, especially the superficial layers, selectively responds to local biological motion. Furthermore, dynamic causal modeling analysis reveals a subcortical-cortical functional pathway that transmits local biological motion signals from the superior colliculus via the middle temporal visual complex to the posterior superior temporal sulcus in the human brain. These findings suggest the existence of a cross-species mechanism in the superior colliculus that facilitates the detection of local biological motion at the early stage of the visual processing stream.

Abstract Stomach adenocarcinoma (STAD) is a prevalent malignancy that is highly aggressive and heterogeneous. Intratumor heterogeneity (ITH) showed strong link to tumor progression and metastasis. High ITH may promote tumor evolution. An ITH-related signature (IRS) was created using as integrative technique including 10 machine learning methods based on TCGA, GSE15459, GSE26253, GSE62254 and GSE84437 datasets. The relevance of IRS in predicting the advantages of immunotherapy was assessed using a number of prediction scores and three immunotherapy datasets (GSE78220, IMvigor210 and GSE91061). Vitro experiments were performed to verify the biological functions of AKR1B1. The RSF + Enet (alpha = 0.1) projected model was proposed as the ideal IRS because it had the highest average C-index. The IRS demonstrated a strong performance in serving as an independent risk factor for the clinical outcome of STAD patients. It performed exceptionally well in predicting the overall survival rate of STAD patients, as seen by the TCGA cohort’s AUC of 1-, 3-, and 5-year ROC curves, which were 0.689, 0.683, and 0.669, respectively. A low IRS score demonstrated a superior response to immunotherapy, as seen by a lower TIDE score, lower immune escape score, greater TMB score, higher PD1&CTLA4 immunophenoscore, higher response rate, and improved prognosis. Common chemotherapeutic and targeted treatment regimens had lower IC50 values in the group with higher IRS scores. Vitro experiment showed that AKR1B1 was upregulated in STAD and knockdown of AKR1B1 obviously suppressed tumor cell proliferation and migration. The present investigation produced the best IRS for STAD, which may be applied to prognostication, risk stratification, and therapy planning for STAD patients.

Abstract Digital trade, as one of the vanguards of the global technological revolution and industrial transformation, empowers low-carbon economic cooperation on a global scale. This study based on panel data from 2007 to 2021 of 46 countries with varied development levels, constructed a multi-dimensional indicator system from six aspects: trade potential, digital infrastructure, digital innovation, digital skills and security, scale of digital trade, and digital trade environment, aim to measure the development level of digital trade and explore its impact on carbon emissions, followed by a heterogeneity analysis. The research results indicate that there are significant differences in the development levels of digital trade among countries with different economic strengths. Countries with stronger economic power and larger trade scales have a higher level of digital trade development, while less developed regions lag in digital trade. As the level of digital trade development increases, the impact of digital trade on carbon emissions will also change. Overall, digital trade exhibits a pronounced low-carbon effect, while its impact varies among countries with different development levels.

Abstract Converting solar energy into fuels is pursued as an attractive route to reduce dependence on fossil fuel. In this context, photothermal catalysis is a very promising approach through converting photons into heat to drive catalytic reactions. There are mainly three key factors that govern the photothermal catalysis performance: maximized solar absorption, minimized thermal emission and excellent catalytic property of catalyst. However, the previous research has focused on improving solar absorption and catalytic performance of catalyst, largely neglected the optimization of thermal emission. Here, we demonstrate an optically selective catalyst based Ti3C2Tx Janus design, that enables minimized thermal emission, maximized solar absorption and good catalytic activity simultaneously, thereby achieving excellent photothermal catalytic performance. When applied to Sabatier reaction and reverse water-gas shift (RWGS) as demonstrations, we obtain an approximately 300% increase in catalytic yield through reducing the thermal emission of catalyst by ~70% under the same irradiation intensity. It is worth noting that the CO2 methanation yield reaches 3317.2 mmol gRu −1 h−1 at light power of 2 W cm−2, setting a performance record among catalysts without active supports. We expect that this design opens up a new pathway for the development of high-performance photothermal catalysts.

With the realization of “Space 180”, as well as the proposal of the “Space Home Port” program and the manned Mars exploration program, taikonaunts have gradually undertaken more long-term missions in deep space. Therefore, the supply technology of space foods is facing new challenges. Three-dimensional printing technology, also known as additive manufacturing technology, provides a new idea to solve space food problems because of its ability to produce highly customized and personalized foods. Through research and analysis, this article introduces common 3D food printing methods, systematically discusses the application of 3D printing technology in the design and production of space food shapes and the regulation of nutrients and flavor as well as its advantages in enabling the long-term storage and transportation of space foods, and points out the unique challenges of 3D printed food production in the space environment, including printing and shaping under microgravity conditions, and the impact of cosmic radiation on materials and equipment. Finally, an outlook on future trends and directions for 3D printed space food technology is provided, aiming to provide a reference for space food innovation.

We examined whether autonomy satisfaction and frustration could be empirically distinguished and had different predictive relationships with students' academic motivation and achievement in maths and English. Results based on a group of 3142 Chinese adolescent students revealed that autonomy satisfaction and frustration were two distinguishable constructs and demonstrated distinct predictive utility. Specifically, satisfaction of autonomy was positively associated with self-efficacy, which in turn, led to higher achievement. Furthermore, autonomy satisfaction was positively linked to interest value. In contrast, frustration of autonomy was positively associated with effort cost, which subsequently undermined achievement. Furthermore, these patterns were highly consistent across two subject domains. Findings of the present study highlight the importance of differentiating between autonomy satisfaction and frustration when predicting students' academic outcomes.

Summary: As social creatures, we are naturally swayed by the opinions of others, which largely shape our attitudes and preferences. However, whether social influence can directly impact our visual perceptual experience remains debated. We designed a two-phase dyadic training paradigm where participants first made a visual categorization judgment and then were informed of an alleged social partner’s choice on the same stimulus. Results demonstrated that social influence significantly modified participants’ subsequent visual categorizations, even when they had been well-trained prior to the dyadic training. This effect persisted for an extended period of up to six weeks. Diffusion model analysis revealed that this effect stemmed from perceptual processing more than mere response bias, and its strength was inversely related to the participants’ confidence and autistic-like tendencies. These findings offer compelling evidence that our perceptual experiences are deeply influenced by social factors, with individual confidence and personality traits playing significant roles.

Conclusion: This study established a riskscore model based on HP infection–related genes, which could provide reference for prognostic prediction and treatment targets of STAD.

Anticipatory “it” pattern, which encodes interpersonal stance, plays a crucial role in academic writing. While previous studies have been explored the overuse and the underuse of this pattern among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners and published writers, there has been limited exploration of how EFL learners use the anticipatory “it” pattern to express interpersonal stance in their academic writing. This study examines the relationship between Chinese MA students’ perceptions of interpersonal stance and their use of anticipatory “it” patterns in academic writing. Utilizing a self-compiled corpus of Chinese MA theses corpus, supplemented by a questionnaire and discourse-based interviews, this research aims to identify factors influencing students’ motivations to employ this pattern. Applying Hewings and Hewings’ functional typology of interpersonal functions of the “it” clause, the results reveal varying correlations across four categories of interpersonal functions in Chinese MA theses. These findings offer valuable insights into the nuanced relationship between students’ perceptions of interpersonal stance and their use of anticipatory “it” pattern, with implications for teaching and learning academic English writing.

BackgroundFerroptosis-related genes have been reported to play important roles in many diseases, but their molecular mechanisms in osteoporosis have not been elucidated.MethodsBased on two independent GEO datasets (GSE35956 and GSE35958), and GSE35959 as the validation dataset, we comprehensively elucidated the pathological mechanism of ferroptosis-related genes in osteoporosis by GO analyses, KEGG analyses and a PPI network. Then, We used Western Blot (WB) and Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) to verify the expression level of KMT2D, a ferroptosis-related hub gene, in clinical samples. Subsequently, we predicted the upstream miRNA of KMT2D gene and analyzed the mechanism of KMT2D in osteoporosis, the potential prognostic value and its immune invasion of KMT2D in pan-cancer.ResultsThis study identified KMT2D and MYCN, TP63, RELA, SOX2, and CDKN1A as key ferroptosis-related genes in osteoporotic cell aging. The independent dataset validated that the expression level of KMT2D was significantly upregulated in osteoporosis samples. The experimental verification results of qPCR and WB indicate that KMT2D is highly expressed in patients with osteoporosis. Further analysis revealed that the hsa-miR-204-5p-KMT2D axis may play an important role in the aging of osteoporotic cells. The analysis of KMT2D reveals that KMT2D may mainly play a role in the aging of osteoporotic cells through epigenetics and the value in pan-cancer.ConclusionThe study provides a theoretical basis for the treatment of osteoporosis.

Abstract Metronomic chemotherapy (MC) is an innovative therapeutic approach that involves the chronic administration of low doses of chemotherapy agents. This strategy aims to sustain prolonged and active plasma levels of drugs, which can result in favorable tolerability. MC has shown promise in the treatment of hematologic and solid tumors, including high‐risk neuroblastoma and relapsed/refractory (R/R) neuroblastoma. In the contemporary management of neuroblastoma, MC stands as a viable maintenance therapy for newly diagnosed patients lacking access to autologous stem cell transplantation or immunotherapy, particularly in resource‐constrained regions. Furthermore, it serves as a pragmatic alternative for individuals intolerant to intensified regimens or undergoing palliative care for R/R neuroblastoma. Nevertheless, the quest for the optimal MC regimen persists, necessitating comprehensive investigations to delineate standardized protocols. Moreover, the identification of potential biomarkers or prognostic indicators assumes paramount significance in refining MC strategies for future breakthroughs in this domain. This review embarks on a comprehensive exploration of MC in neuroblastoma, offering insights into its historical underpinnings, diverse applications, adverse effect and future prospects, endeavoring to enrich our understanding of MC role in neuroblastoma management.

Abstract Lung cancer represents a significant public health concern worldwide. Lung cancer typically receives a diagnosis at a late stage, leading to a generally unfavourable prognosis. Additionally, traditional treatments frequently fail in cases of metastatic lung cancer. However, targeted therapy has advanced considerably in the management of lung cancer, and overcoming drug resistance has emerged as a significant hurdle in achieving optimal treatment outcomes. As a result, there has been a new trend toward precision therapy for lung cancer based on changes at the molecular and genetic levels. On the other hand, for lung cancer, early diagnosis plays a crucial role in treatment and prognosis. Based on existing knowledge, we strongly believe that it is imperative to promptly identify innovative biomarkers. The emergence of microRNAs (miRNAs) provides new ideas. The expression profiles of miRNAs have been investigated using noninvasive blood samples to explore the regulatory mechanisms played by miRNAs during the progression and targeted therapy resistance of lung cancer. Due to the complexity of miRNA profiles, they may play the role of tumour suppressors or oncogenes. However, specific regulatory mechanisms are still a huge topic to be explored. In this Review, we summarize the latest research that has shed light on the potential regulatory mechanisms of miRNAs in driving lung cancer progression, their value for clinical application as biomarkers and their role in targeted therapy resistance.

IntroductionThe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) global pandemic has been the most severe public health emergency since 2019. Currently, the Omicron variant of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has been the most dominant. The most prominent symptom of SARS-CoV-2 infection is respiratory. Meanwhile, the fatality of COVID-19 was mainly from pneumonia. However ,in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection who have pneumonia and those who do not, the differences in the immune repertoire still require further investigation.MethodsWe conducted seven-chain adaptome immune repertoire analyses on patients with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron infection, both with and without pulmonary infiltration.ResultsPatients with pulmonary infiltration exhibit lymphopenia, a decreased proportion of the overall TCR repertoire alongside an increased BCR repertoire, reduced IGHD and IGHM isotype expression, a shorter mean CDR3 length for TRG, and a longer mean length for TRD, as well as diminished clonality and diversity in the TCR/BCR repertoire. Meanwhile, patients with pulmonary infiltration have distinct V-J gene usage and unique CDR3 signature, as well as BCR class switch recombination pattern. Finally, prior vaccination triggered less BCR IGHM/IGHD somatic hypermutation response, preserved the diversity of the entire adaptive immune repertoire, and provided clinical protection against severe or critical conditions following Omicron infection.DiscussionWe report a unique, comprehensive adaptive immune system signature in patients with pulmonary infiltration, which may serve as potential immunological biomarkers and therapeutic targets.

This study aimed to explore the mechanism by which total flavones of Abelmoschl manihot reduce intracellular lipid deposition in HK-2 cells (Human renal cortex proximal tubule epithelial cells) and thus reduce cell apoptosis. Palmitic acid was employed to induce intracellular lipid deposition. The cell proliferation activity was detected by the CCK-8 assay. The cell death status was evaluated by flow cytometry. The intracellular lipid deposition was observed by oil red O and BODIPY probe staining. The expression level of CD36 in HK-2 cells was determined by western blot. The results indicated that total flavones of A. manihot could inhibit the expression of CD36 in HK-2 cells in a dose-dependent manner and reduce lipid deposition. Consequently, total flavones of A. manihot protect HK-2 cells by reducing intracellular lipid deposition by inhibiting CD36-mediated fatty acid uptake.

Mechanical interlocking is a prominent phenomenon both in macroscopic objects and in microscopic molecules. Not only is it aesthetically appealing, it also leads to unique properties such as extraordinary mechanical stability. This review focuses on mechanically interlocked biomacromolecules. After a brief clarification on the concept and scope, we discuss their classification and summarize the three main types of mechanically interlocked biomacromolecules (i.e., DNA, RNA, and proteins) in terms of their natural occurrence, synthetic methods, relevant applications, and functional benefits. It has been found that mechanical interlocking reshapes the conformational space of these chain molecules, which provides numerous opportunities to tailor their properties and create new functions. Since the development of ''assembly-reaction'' synergies has greatly facilitated their synthetic availability, these mechanically linked biomacromolecules will become unique and promising candidates for various applications in biomaterials and biomedicine.

Objective Acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) is a devastating cardiovascular disease with extraordinary morbidity and mortality. Prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV) is a common complication following ATAAD surgery, leading to adverse outcomes. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between mechanical ventilation time (MVT) and prognosis and to devise a nomogram for predicting PMV after ATAAD surgery.Methods This retrospective study enrolled 1049 ATAAD patients from 2011 to 2019. Subgroups were divided into < 12 h, 12 h to < 24 h, 24 h to < 48 h, 48 h to < 72 h, and ≥ 72 h according to MVT. Clinical characteristics and outcomes were compared among the groups. Using multivariable logistic regression analyses, we investigated the relationship between each stratification of MVT and mortality. A nomogram was constructed based on the refined multivariable logistic regression model for predicting PMV.Results The total mortality was 11.8% (124/1049). The results showed that the groups with MVT 48 h to < 72 h and ≥ 72 h had significantly higher operative mortality compared to other MVT categories. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that MVT ≥72 h was significantly associated with higher short-term mortality. Thus, a nomogram was presented to elucidate the association between PMV (MVT ≥72 h) and risk factors including advanced age, preoperative cerebral ischemia, ascending aorta replacement, concomitant coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), longer cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), and large-volume intraoperative fresh frozen plasma (FFP) transfusion. The nomogram exhibited strong predictive performance upon validation.Conclusions Safely extubating patients within 72 h after ATAAD surgery is crucial for achieving favorable outcomes. The developed and validated nomogram provides a valuable tool for predicting PMV and optimizing postoperative care to improve patient prognosis. This novel nomogram has the potential to guide clinical decision-making and resource allocation in the management of ATAAD patients.

Stress-induced immunosuppression (SIIS) is one of the most common problems in intensive poultry production, which can cause immunized chickens to still develop diseases and bring huge losses to production. Recently, adipose tissue, as an immunomodulatory organ, has become a hot topic of attention. However, the function and mechanism of adipose tissue involved in SIIS and its influence on the immune response are still unclear. In this study, we dynamically analyzed the correlations between the T cells migration and change of sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 1 (S1PR1) gene in adipose tissue using chicken models with different immune states, and further explored the regulatory mechanisms and application. The results showed that SIIS could significantly change the expressions of lymphocytes migration related S1PR1 gene, and SIIS could inhibit the Newcastle disease virus (NDV) immune response partially by affecting the migration and proliferation of TCRα+ T cells in adipose tissue. Moreover, the miR-145-5p/S1PR1 pathway was a potential key mechanism to regulate T cells migration in adipose tissue, and circulating miR-145-5p had potential value as a molecular marker. This research can provide innovative reference for in-depth studying the immunoregulatory function and mechanism of adipose tissue.

Vaccine hesitancy threatens to reverse the progress in tackling vaccine-preventable diseases. We used an $ SIS $ model with a game theory model for vaccination and parameters from the COVID-19 pandemic to study how vaccine hesitancy impacts epidemic dynamics. The system showed three asymptotic behaviors: total rejection of vaccinations, complete acceptance, and oscillations. With increasing fear of infection, stable endemic states become periodic oscillations. Our results suggest that managing fear of infection relative to vaccination is vital to successful mass vaccinations.

Objective Total hip arthroplasty (THA) remains the primary treatment option for femoral neck fractures in elderly patients. This study aims to explore the risk factors associated with allogeneic blood transfusion after surgery and to develop a dynamic prediction model to predict post‐operative blood transfusion requirements. This will provide more accurate guidance for perioperative humoral management and rational allocation of medical resources. Methods We retrospectively analyzed data from 829 patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty for femoral neck fractures at three third‐class hospitals between January 2017 and August 2023. Patient data from one hospital were used for model development, whereas data from the other two hospitals were used for external validation. Logistic regression analysis was used to screen the characteristic subsets related to blood transfusion. Various machine learning algorithms, including logistic regression, SVA (support vector machine), K‐NN (k‐nearest neighbors), MLP (multilayer perceptron), naive Bayes, decision tree, random forest, and gradient boosting, were used to process the data and construct prediction models. A 10‐fold cross‐validation algorithm facilitated the comparison of the predictive performance of the models, resulting in the selection of the best‐performing model for the development of an open‐source computing program. Results BMI (body mass index), surgical duration, IBL (intraoperative blood loss), anticoagulant history, utilization rate of tranexamic acid, Pre‐Hb, and Pre‐ALB were included in the model as well as independent risk factors. The average area under curve (AUC) values for each model were as follows: logistic regression (0.98); SVA (0.91); k‐NN (0.87) MLP, (0.96); naive Bayes (0.97); decision tree (0.87); random forest (0.96); and gradient boosting (0.97). A web calculator based on the best model is available at: (https://nomo99.shinyapps.io/dynnomapp/). Conclusion Utilizing a computer algorithm, a prediction model with a high discrimination accuracy (AUC > 0.5) was developed. The logistic regression model demonstrated superior differentiation and reliability, thereby successfully passing external validation. The model's strong generalizability and applicability have significant implications for clinicians, aiding in the identification of patients at high risk for postoperative blood transfusion.

Abstract The flavor structure of quarks and leptons and quark-lepton unification are studied in the framework of Pati-Salam models with A 4 modular symmetry. The three generations of the left-handed and right-handed fermions are assigned to be triplet or singlets of A 4. The light neutrino masses are generated through the type-I seesaw mechanism. We perform a systematic classification of Pati-Salam models according to the transformations of matter fields under the A 4 modular symmetry, and the general form of the fermion mass matrix is given. We present four phenomenologically viable benchmark models which provide excellent descriptions of masses and flavor mixing of quarks and leptons, including neutrinos. In such models we find that the normal ordered neutrino mass spectrum is preferred over the inverted case, with neutrinoless double beta decay predicted to be too small to be observed by the next generation of experiments.

Abstract Objective Bibliometrics was employed in this study to determine the research trends in the worldwide application of 3D printing technology to treat bone tumors over the previous 10 years. Methods Published from 2013 to 2022, the papers related to bone tumors treated with 3D printing were located in Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), PubMed, and Scopus. The screened articles were included in this bibliometric study. From these papers in WoSCC, information on annual publications, journals, keywords, countries, authors, institutions, and cited references were extracted and visualized with CiteSpace (version 6.1.R6) software to investigate the state of bone tumor treatment using 3D printing as well as research hotspots. The Carrot2 online visualization tool and Vosviewer software (version 1.6.20) were employed to visualize the publications from PubMed and Scopus, respectively, in order to ascertain the most popular research topics from both databases. Results A total of 606, 233, and 364 publications were obtained from WoSCC, PubMed, and Scopus, respectively, between the years 2013 and 2022. In WoSCC, the peak number of publications was found in 2021, with 145 publications published. Acta Biomaterialia (11 publications) and World Neurosurgery (10 publications) were the most prolific journals, and Biomaterials was the journal cited the most (244 times). Yong Zhou was the most productive author with 14 publications, while Kwok-Chuen Wong (69 citations) and William F Enneking, (69 citations) possessed the most citations. The country with the largest quantity of publications was China (207). Among all institutions, Shanghai Jiao Tong University produced the most publications (29). Rapid prototyping was the keyword with the strongest citation burst (4.73). ‘Reconstruction’, ‘surgery’, ‘resection’, and ‘design’ caught the significant attention of researchers. 3D-printed materials, pelvic reconstruction, mandibular reconstruction, computer-assisted surgical techniques, photothermal therapy, and in vitro experiments were recognized as hot subjects and trends in current research. The most frequently occurring topics in Scopus are not significantly different from those found in WoSCC. The most prevalent research areas in PubMed encompass implant, patient-specific, bioceramic, models, and pelvic.

Abstract Spatial omics technologies decipher functional components of complex organs at cellular and subcellular resolutions. We introduce Spatial Graph Fourier Transform (SpaGFT) and apply graph signal processing to a wide range of spatial omics profiling platforms to generate their interpretable representations. This representation supports spatially variable gene identification and improves gene expression imputation, outperforming existing tools in analyzing human and mouse spatial transcriptomics data. SpaGFT can identify immunological regions for B cell maturation in human lymph nodes Visium data and characterize variations in secondary follicles using in-house human tonsil CODEX data. Furthermore, it can be integrated seamlessly into other machine learning frameworks, enhancing accuracy in spatial domain identification, cell type annotation, and subcellular feature inference by up to 40%. Notably, SpaGFT detects rare subcellular organelles, such as Cajal bodies and Set1/COMPASS complexes, in high-resolution spatial proteomics data. This approach provides an explainable graph representation method for exploring tissue biology and function.

Abstract Background The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of liver Transplants (LT) with retrograde reperfusion on early postoperative recovery of liver function and its risk factors. Methods We conducted a retrospective analysis of clinical data from 136 liver transplantation (LT) patients at the 900th Hospital of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Joint Support Army, covering the period from January 2015 to January 2021. All participants provided informed consent, adhering to medical ethics guidelines. Patients were stratified into two groups based on the liver perfusion technique used: retrograde reperfusion (RTR, n = 108) and initial portal reperfusion (IPR, n = 28). Our study focused on a subset of 23 patients from each group to compare postoperative liver function recovery. The final analysis included 86 RTR and 28 IPR cases after excluding 8 RTR patients who underwent initial hepatic artery reperfusion and 14 who received simultaneous hepatic artery and portal vein reperfusion. Further subdivision within the RTR group identified 19 patients with early hepatic allograft dysfunction (EAD) and 67 without, allowing for an assessment of the influence of preoperative and intraoperative parameters, as well as perfusion methods, on EAD incidence post-LT. Results Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) was 329 (211 ~ 548) and 176 (98 ~ 282) U/L on the 3rd and 7th day after RTR, respectively, which was significantly lower than 451 (288 ~ 918) and 251 (147 ~ 430) U/L in the IPR group (Z =-1.979, -2.299, P = 0.048, 0.021). Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) on postoperative days 3, 5, and 7 was 252 (193, 522), 105 (79, 163), and 93 (41, 135) U/L in the RTR group, respectively; it was also significantly lower than 328 (251, 724), 179 (129, 306), and 150 (91, 200)U/L in the IPR group (Z=-2.212, -3.221, -2.979; P = 0.027, 0.001, 0.003). Logistic regression analysis showed that MELD score was an independent risk factor for EAD after LT. Conclusion RTR LT is more favorable for patients’ early postoperative liver function recovery. For patients undergoing LT for RTR, preoperative MELD score was an independent risk factor for their postoperative development of EAD.
