Near-infrared (NIR) glass-converted light-emitting diodes (gc-LEDs) are newly emergent broadband light sources for miniaturizing optical systems like spectrometers. While lots of effort has been spent on materials doped with rare-earth and transition-metal ions, the achievement of these materials with broadband NIR emission and desired wavelength region remains a long-standing challenge, especially operating in the spectral region between 700 and 1100 nm. Herein, a broadband NIR LEDs based on Te cluster-doped silicate glass is developed. Through adjustment of melting atmosphere and network topology of the glass matrix, active NIR Te cluster centers can be generated and stabilized in silicate glass and show a broad emission at 980 nm with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 300 nm under blue light excitation. The photoluminescence of the glass matches well with the absorption of several primary chemical bonds in food and biological tissue. In demonstration experiments, the NIR absorption of different biological tissue by NIR light from our glass is measured, suggesting that the super-broad NIR luminescence of Te-doped silicate glass has potential applications as light sources for nondestructive analysis. The non-scanning radiometer with short-wavelength (SW: 0.2–5.0 μm) and total-wavelength (TW: 0.2–50.0 μm) channels is the primary payload of the Integrated Earth–Moon Radiation Observation System (IEMROS), which is designed to provide comprehensive Earth radiation measurements and lunar calibrations at the L1 Lagrange point of the Earth–Moon system from a global perspective. This manuscript introduces a radiometer preflight calibration methodology, which involves background removal and is validated using accurate and traceable reference sources. Simulated Earth view tests are performed to evaluate repeatability, linearity, and gain coefficients over the operating range. Both channels demonstrate repeatability uncertainties better than 0.34%, indicating consistent and reliable measuring performance. Comparative polynomial regression analysis confirms significant linear response characteristics with two-channel nonlinearity less than 0.20%. Gain coefficients are efficiently determined using a two-point calibration approach. Uncertainty analysis reveals an absolute radiometric calibration accuracy of 0.97% for the SW channel and 0.92% for the TW channel, underscoring the non-scanning radiometer's capability to provide dependable global Earth radiation budget data crucial to environmental and climate studies. Background: This study compared the cost-effectiveness of open (ODP), laparoscopic (LDP), and robotic (RDP) distal pancreatectomy (DP). Methods: Studies reporting the costs of DP were included in a literature search until August 2023. Bayesian network meta-analysis was conducted, and surface under cumulative ranking area (SUCRA) values, mean difference (MD), odds ratio (OR), and 95% credible intervals (CrIs) were calculated for outcomes of interest. Cluster analysis was performed to examine the similarity and classification of DP approaches into homogeneous clusters. A decision model-based cost–utility analysis was conducted for the cost-effectiveness analysis of DP strategies. Results: Twenty-six studies with 29,164 patients were included in the analysis. Among the three groups, LDP had the lowest overall costs, while ODP had the highest overall costs (LDP vs. ODP: MD − 3521.36, 95% CrI − 6172.91 to − 1228.59). RDP had the highest procedural costs (ODP vs. RDP: MD − 4311.15, 95% CrI − 6005.40 to − 2599.16; LDP vs. RDP: MD − 3772.25, 95% CrI − 4989.50 to − 2535.16), but incurred the lowest hospitalization costs. Both LDP (MD − 3663.82, 95% CrI − 6906.52 to − 747.69) and RDP (MD − 6678.42, 95% CrI − 11,434.30 to − 2972.89) had significantly reduced hospitalization costs compared to ODP. LDP and RDP demonstrated a superior profile regarding costs–morbidity, costs–mortality, costs–efficacy, and costs–utility compared to ODP. Compared to ODP, LDP and RDP cost $3110 and $817 less per patient, resulting in 0.03 and 0.05 additional quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), respectively, with positive incremental net monetary benefit (NMB). RDP costs $2293 more than LDP with a negative incremental NMB but generates 0.02 additional QALYs with improved postoperative morbidity and spleen preservation. Probabilistic sensitivity analysis suggests that LDP and RDP are more cost-effective options compared to ODP at various willingness-to-pay thresholds. Purpose: This study evaluated the accuracy of the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP) calculator in predicting outcomes after hepatectomy for colorectal cancer (CRC) liver metastasis in a Southeast Asian population. Methods: Predicted and actual outcomes were compared for 166 patients undergoing hepatectomy for CRC liver metastasis identified between 2017 and 2022, using receiver operating characteristic curves with area under the curve (AUC) and Brier score. Results: The ACS-NSQIP calculator accurately predicted most postoperative complications (AUC > 0.70), except for surgical site infection (AUC = 0.678, Brier score = 0.045). It also exhibited satisfactory performance for readmission (AUC = 0.818, Brier score = 0.011), reoperation (AUC = 0.945, Brier score = 0.002), and length of stay (LOS, AUC = 0.909). The predicted LOS was close to the actual LOS (5.9 vs. 5.0 days, P = 0.985). Conclusion: The ACS-NSQIP calculator demonstrated generally accurate predictions for 30-day postoperative outcomes after hepatectomy for CRC liver metastasis in our patient population. With the surge in astronomical data volume, modern astronomical research faces significant challenges in data storage, processing, and access. The I/O bottleneck issue in astronomical data processing is particularly prominent, limiting the efficiency of data processing. To address this issue, this paper proposes a tiered storage algorithm based on the access characteristics of astronomical data. The C4.5 decision tree algorithm is employed as the foundation to implement an astronomical data access correlation algorithm. Additionally, a data copy migration strategy is designed based on tiered storage technology to achieve efficient data access. Preprocessing tests were conducted on 418GB NSRT (Nanshan Radio Telescope) formaldehyde spectral line data, showcasing that tiered storage can potentially reduce data processing time by up to 38.15%. Similarly, utilizing 802.2 GB data from FAST (Five- hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope) observations for pulsar search data processing tests, the tiered storage approach demonstrated a maximum reduction of 29.00% in data processing time. In concurrent testing of data processing workflows, the proposed astronomical data heat correlation algorithm in this paper achieved an average reduction of 17.78% in data processing time compared to centralized storage. Furthermore, in comparison to traditional heat algorithms, it reduced data processing time by 5.15%. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is positively correlated with the associativity between the algorithm and the processed data. The tiered storage algorithm based on the characteristics of astronomical data proposed in this paper is poised to provide algorithmic references for large-scale data processing in the field of astronomy in the future. Background: Multimorbidity, body pain, sleep disturbance, and depression are major clinical and public health challenges. This paper aimed to examine the associations of multimorbidity with body pain, sleep duration, and depression; and whether the associations varied by socioeconomic status. Methods: Data was derived from four waves of the nationally representative China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), including participants aged 45 years and older in 2011. 12 physical non-communicable diseases and 1 mental chronic disease were used to measure multimorbidity. Educational attainment and annual per-capita household consumption expenditure were employed as proxies for socioeconomic status. Results: Of the 16,931 participants aged 45 + years old, the proportion of people with multimorbidity was 37.87% at baseline. The number of multimorbidity increased with older age and higher socioeconomic status. Multimorbidity was associated with more body pain (incidence rate ratio (IRR) = 1.53, 95% CI = 1.45–1.61), and decreased sleep duration (β = -0.26, 95% CI = -0.36–-0.15). Furthermore, multimorbidity was associated with increased depression risks (odds ratio (OR) = 1.54, 95% CI = 1.44–1.64, adjusted for sociodemographic variables), with the mediating effects of the number of body pain and sleep duration. The associations between multimorbidity and depression persisted among different socioeconomic groups. Conclusions: Multimorbidity was associated with increased body pain, decreased sleep duration, and further led to increased depression risks. Broadband near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy based on glass-converted light-emitting diodes (gc-LEDs) has been of great interest to multifunctional applications ranging from night vision to chemical industry, stimulating the demand for exploring broadband NIR gc-LEDs with sufficient efficiency stability and aging resistance. Herein, an all-inorganic broadband NIR LEDs based on Te cluster-doped germanate glass is developed. Via adjustment of melting atmosphere and network topology of the glass matrix, active NIR Te cluster centers can be generated and stabilized in germanate glass and show a broad emission at 770 nm with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 260 nm under blue light excitation. By combining the Te-doped glass with a commercial blue LED chip, a high-performance NIR gc-LEDs is fabricated with an NIR output power of 14.21 mW@10.1% under a driving current of 400 mA. Particularly, the fabricated NIR-LED device exhibits high efficient stability with a relatively low-efficiency drop of 0.0023 %mA−1, and excellent aging resistance while retaining an electroluminescence intensity up 90 % of their initial value after aging for 480 h under harsh conditions, which is comparable to the commercial phosphors. Chirality, with its intrinsic symmetry‐breaking feature, is frequently utilized in the creation of acentric crystalline functional materials that exhibit intriguing optoelectronic properties. On the other hand, the development of chiral crystals from achiral molecules offers a solution that bypasses the need for enantiopure motifs, presenting a promising alternative and thereby expanding the possibilities of the self‐assembly toolkit. Nevertheless, the rational design of achiral molecules that prefer spontaneous symmetry breaking during crystallization has so far been obscure. In this study, we present a series of six achiral molecules, demonstrating that when these conformationally flexible molecules adopt a cis‐conformation and engage in multiple non‐covalent interactions along a helical path, they collectively self‐assemble into chiral superstructures consisting of single‐handed supramolecular columns. When these homochiral supramolecular columns align in parallel, they form polar crystals that exhibit intense luminescence upon grinding or scraping. We therefore demonstrate our molecular design strategy could significantly increase the likelihood of symmetry breaking in achiral molecular synthons during self‐assembly, offering a facile access to novel chiral crystalline materials with unique optoelectronic properties. Preventive maintenance (PM) is commonly adopted in practice to improve a system's health condition and reduce the risk of unexpected failures. When a PM action is poorly performed, however, it is likely to have adverse effects on system reliability. We observe this phenomenon when evaluating the effectiveness of a PM program for a fleet of service vehicles based on their four-year operating data. This phenomenon is also commonly reported in the maintenance of vehicles and aircraft. Motivated by this observation, we propose a statistical model for repairable systems by taking potential PM adverse effects into account. In the formulation, the baseline failure process without PM effects is modeled by a nonhomogeneous Poisson process. When a PM action is performed, its effect on the failure process is modeled as a multiplicative random effect on the system rate of occurrence of failures. Statistical inference under the proposed model is discussed, and we further develop goodness-of-fit test procedures to validate the adequacy of this model. This research investigates the impact of deuteration on the operational lifetime of blue organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). Our study focuses on the kinetic isotope effect (KIE) and how it enhances device lifetime. Specifically, we examine the effects of deuteration on OLEDs with emitters based on common polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by deuterating anthracene‐based host materials. Our findings show that the deuterated analogues with incremental deuterium substitutions exhibit similar electroluminescence (EL) performances but progressively prolonged device lifetimes as a function of deuteration, indicating a cumulative enhancement effect. We observed a twofold increase in device lifetime with partial deuterium substitutions, while highly deuterated hosts realized up to a fourfold improvement. Furthermore, we found that device degradation is initiated from the interface of the hole transport layer (HTL) and emitting layer (ETL), and deuteration can mitigate the degraded reactions in the devices, thereby improving operational stability. These results provide insight into how deuteration can increase the operational lifetime of OLEDs, which has important implications for developing more efficient and durable OLED materials. Background: Oral health is a major global public health problem, but its risk factors have not been fully identified. The limited evidence suggests that AL may affect oral health conditions, but most of these studies focus only on middle‐aged western populations. Objectives: To examine whether allostatic load is associated with oral health conditions later in life among middle‐aged and older adults in China and there there is a correlation in both middle‐aged and older people. Materials and methods: Data were collected from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study 2011–2018 (N = 10 890) and were analysed using logistic regressions for the overall sample and subsamples by age. Results: Results showed that higher inflammation load significantly increased the odds of edentulism (OR = 1.358, 95% CI = 1.020–1.809, p <.05). Higher metabolic load significantly increased the odds of denture use (OR = 1.375, 95% CI = 1.154–1.640, p < 0.001) and difficulty in chewing solid foods (OR = 1.100, 95% CI = 1.035–1.169, p <.01). These associations were manifested in older adults over 60 years of age, while in the middle‐aged subsample, the associations were not significant. Conclusion: The findings suggested that higher allostatic load was associated with poorer oral health conditions later in life. It is critical to lower allostatic load and improve oral health conditions, especially for older adults over 60 years of age. As high-speed trains exceed 400 km/h, tunnel aerodynamics pose significant challenges. The hat oblique tunnel buffer hood with enlarged cross section and ventilation windows (HEW) is a promising solution to mitigate micro-pressure waves (MPWs). However, there is limited research on HEW ventilation window configurations. Thus, field measurements and numerical simulations were conducted using the slip grid technique and an improved delayed eddy simulation turbulence model, with validation against field data. The study investigated the effects of aperture rate and ventilation window arrangement, analyzing the initial compression wave, pressure gradient, MPW, and flow field in the tunnel buffer hood under various ventilation window setups. Findings emphasize that increasing the aperture rate or placing ventilation windows near the tunnel entrance reduces MPWs when a high-speed train enters the buffer hood. However, it intensifies MPWs when the train transitions from the buffer hood to the tunnel. Optimal MPW mitigation is achieved with approximately 15% aperture rate and a ventilation window distance from the slope end of 0.3–0.4 times the enlarged cross section length. Double ventilation windows outperform single or three windows in MPW reduction, with longitudinally arranged windows at the top facilitating more efficient high-pressure air escape compared to circumferential windows. Introduction: We studied the correlation of central macular fluid volume (CMFV) and central subfield thickness (CST) with best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in treatment-naïve eyes with diabetic macular edema (DME) 1 month after anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy. Methods: This retrospective cohort study investigated eyes that received anti-VEGF therapy. All participants underwent comprehensive examinations and optical coherence tomography (OCT) volume scans at baseline (M0) and 1 month after the first treatment (M1). Two deep learning models were separately developed to automatically measure the CMFV and the CST. Correlations were analyzed between the CMFV and the logMAR BCVA at M0 and logMAR BCVA at M1. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) of CMFV and CST for predicting eyes with BCVA ≥ 20/40 at M1 was analyzed. Results: This study included 156 DME eyes from 89 patients. The median CMFV decreased from 0.272 (0.061–0.568) at M0 to 0.096 (0.018–0.307) mm3 at M1. The CST decreased from 414 (293–575) to 322 (252–430) μm. The logMAR BCVA decreased from 0.523 (0.301–0.817) to 0.398 (0.222–0.699). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that the CMFV was the only significant factor for logMAR BCVA at both M0 (β = 0.199, p = 0.047) and M1 (β = 0.279, p = 0.004). The AUROC of CMFV for predicting eyes with BCVA ≥ 20/40 at M1 was 0.72, and the AUROC of CST was 0.69. Conclusions: Anti-VEGF therapy is an effective treatment for DME. Automated measured CMFV is a more accurate prognostic factor than CST for the initial anti-VEGF treatment outcome of DME. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness that imposes huge burden of illness on the society. We aimed to conduct a meta-analytic and systematic review of literature on the effectiveness of community-based rehabilitation interventions on symptoms and functioning for people with schizophrenia. The PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and CINAHL databases were searched through April 16 and 17, 2021, including clinical trial registries and previous Cochrane reviews. We included 24 randomized controlled trials in this review. The content of interventions varied from single-faceted rehabilitation intervention or cognitive retraining, to multi-component rehabilitation interventions or case management. Among 20 studies that reported effects of community-based rehabilitation interventions on symptoms, the pooled SMDs across all interventions was 0.94 (95% CI = 0.11, 1.76; P < 0.001; I2 = 99.1%; n = 3694), representing a strong effect. 21 included studies showed that community-based rehabilitation interventions also had beneficial impacts on functioning (SMD = 1.65; 95% CI = 0.88, 2.43; P < 0.001; I2 = 98.9%; n = 3734). Overall quality of evidence was moderate with a high level of heterogeneity. Community-based rehabilitation interventions have positive effectiveness in improving patients' symptoms and functioning. Community-based rehabilitation interventions should therefore be provided as an adjuvant service in addition to facility-based care for people with schizophrenia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In clinical studies, it is often that the medical treatments take a period of time before having an effect on patients and the delayed time may vary from person to person. Even though there exists a rich literature developing methods to estimate the time-lag period and treatment effects after lag time, most of these existing studies assume a fixed lag time. In this paper, we propose a hazard model incorporating a random treatment time-lag effect to describe the heterogeneous treatment effect among subjects. The EM algorithm is used to obtain the maximum likelihood estimator. We give the asymptotic properties of the proposed estimator and evaluate its performance via simulation studies. Research on government service quality can help ensure the success of digital government services and has been the focus of numerous studies that proposed different frameworks and approaches. Most of the existing studies are based on traditional researcher-led methods, which struggle to capture the needs of citizens. In this paper, a citizen-feedback-based analysis framework was proposed to explore citizen demands and analyze the service quality of digital government. Citizen feedback data are a direct expression of citizens' demands, so the citizen-feedback-based framework can help to obtain more targeted management insights and improve citizen satisfaction. Efficient machine learning methods used in the framework make data collection and processing more efficient, especially for large-scale internet data. With the crawled user feedback data from the Q&A e-government portal of Luzhou, Sichuan Province, China, we conducted experiments on the proposed framework to verify its feasibility. From citizens' online feedback on Q&A services, we extracted five service quality factors: efficiency, quality, attitude, compliance, and execution of response. • This pilot study looked into how semen parameters mediate the association between paternal age and the outcomes of in vitro fertilization (IVF). • A paternal age of over 40 years was associated with a lower fertilization rate, pregnancy rate and live birth rate. • Sperm motility significantly mediates the association between advanced paternal age and decreased IVF fertilization rate. To explore the mediation between advanced paternal age and the outcomes of in vitro fertilization (IVF) in a female-adjusted cohort. The study retrospectively included couples undergoing IVF cycles between 2011 and 2020, and whose female partner was free of medical conditions that would significantly worsen clinical outcomes. Data on patient medical conditions, clinical data, and follow-up information were collected. Causal mediation effect analysis adopting both linear/logistic regression and mixed-effects models was carried out to evaluate the effect of paternal age on the outcomes. 21,959 IVF cycles were included in the study. Semen volume, sperm motility and sperm morphology were significantly associated (P value <0.05) with paternal age. A lower fertilization rate was associated with increased paternal age after adjustment for maternal age (adjusted OR = 0.800; 95 % CI, 0.678, 0.943; P value = 0.008). Mediation analysis revealed that A-level sperm rate and progressive rate respectively mediated 37.0 % and 41.0 % of the association between paternal age and fertilization rate. Sperm motility rate, especially A-level sperm rate and rapid progressive rate, mediated the association between advanced paternal age and lower fertilization rate in the cycles. This paper investigates the change in solidification microcrack susceptibility under the influence of thermal-shock-induced effects for pulsed laser spot welding molten pools with different waveforms, powers, frequencies, and pulse widths. During the welding process, the temperature of the molten pool under the effect of thermal shock changes sharply, triggering pressure waves, creating cavities in the molten pool paste area, and forming crack sources during solidification. The microstructure near the cracks was analyzed using a SEM (scanning electron microscope) and EDS (electronic differential system), and it was found that bias precipitation occurred during the rapid solidification of the melt pool, and a large amount of Nb elements were enriched in the interdendritic and grain boundaries, which eventually formed a liquid film with a low melting point, known as a Laves phase. When cavities appear in the liquid film, the chance of crack source formation is further increased. Using a slow rise and slow fall waveform is good for reducing cracks; reducing the peak laser power to 1000 w is good for reducing cracks in the solder joint; increasing the pulse width to 20 ms reduces the degree of crack damage; reducing the pulse frequency to 10 hz reduces the degree of crack damage. Fabrication of single‐crystalline organic semiconductor patterns is of key importance to enable practical applications. However due to the poor controllability on nucleation locations and the intrinsic anisotropic nature of single‐crystals, growth of single‐crystal patterns with homogeneous orientation is a big challenge especially by the vapor method. Herein a vapor growth protocol to achieve patterned organic semiconductor single‐crystals with high crystallinity and uniform crystallographic orientation is presented. The protocol relies on the recently invented microspacing in‐air sublimation assisted with surface wettability treatment to precisely pin the organic molecules at desired locations, and inter‐connecting pattern motifs to induce homogeneous crystallographic orientation. Single‐crystalline patterns with different shapes and sizes, and uniform orientation are demonstrated exemplarily by using 2,7‐dioctyl[1]benzothieno[3,2‐b][1]benzothiophene (C8‐BTBT). Field‐effect transistor arrays fabricate on the patterned C8‐BTBT single‐crystal patterns show uniform electrical performance: a 100% yield with an average mobility of 6.28 cm2 V−1 s−1 and in a 5 × 8 array. The developed protocols overcome the uncontrollability of the isolated crystal patterns in vapor growth on non‐epitaxial substrates, making it possible to align the anisotropic electronic nature of single‐crystal patterns in large‐scale devices integration. Herein, we report a facile method for growing CsPbBr3 cube and prism microcrystals by microspacing in-air sublimation. Morphology-dependent photoluminescence behavior investigation reveals that the CsPbBr3 cubes show higher photoluminescence quantum yield and longer PL lifetime than the prisms. In this study, a pulsed laser was used as the heat source for the additive work. The Ti6Al4V/Inconel 718 alloy wire was deposited on the substrate by melting using a pulsed laser. Using the above method, single-layer and double-layer samples were printed. The sample material printed in this way is highly utilized. Compared to the complicated pre-preparation work of metal powder pre-mixing, this printing method is simple to prepare and only requires changing the wire feeding speed. The study of this paper provides a theoretical guide for the subsequent fusion deposition of heterogeneous wire materials. The samples were analyzed after molding using SEM, EDS and XRD to characterize the microstructure of the samples. The samples can be divided into three zones depending on the microstructure, the bottom columnar crystal zone, the middle mixed phase zone, and the bottom equiaxed crystal zone. From the bottom to the top of the sample, the phase microstructure changes as γ + Laves → α + β + Ti2Ni + TiNi + Ni3Ti → α + β. The hardness data show that the highest value in the transition zone is 951.4 HV. The hardness of the top part is second only to the transition zone due to a large number of equiaxed crystals. Introduction: The administration of methylprednisolone (MP) is a component of perioperative multimodal analgesia that mitigates the potentially deleterious effects of postoperative pain and opioid consumption. However, a systematic evaluation of the efficacy and safety of MP is lacking. The present systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to quantify the potential clinical benefits and risks of perioperative MP in lung surgery. Methods: We searched seven electronic databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing MP with placebo. Coprimary outcomes were rest pain scores, dynamic pain scores, and cumulative morphine equivalent consumption within 24 h postoperatively. Results: A total of 11 trials including 643 participants were selected for our meta-analysis. The results demonstrated that the MP group had a significant difference in coprimary outcomes (rest pain scores, dynamic pain scores, and cumulative morphine equivalent consumption) compared with the placebo group; nevertheless, the improvement was not clinically meaningful based on minimum clinically important differences (MCID). Notably, MP administration reduced serum levels of interleukin (IL)-6 at 6 h (weighted mean difference −20.49 pg/mL; 95% CI −29.94 to −11.04), and decreased the incidence rate of acute lung injury (rate ratio 0.18; 95% CI 0.03–0.98) and cognitive dysfunction (rate ratio 0.43; 95% CI 0.21–0.88) compared with the placebo group. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that the administration of MP contributed to an insignificant relief in acute postoperative pain for lung surgery in a clinical setting. Future studies should focus on exploring the role of MP in reducing pulmonary and surgical-related complications after lung surgery. To evaluate the clinical features, molecular subtypes, therapeutic strategies, and prognostic factors of occult breast cancer (OBC). Patients with T0-3/N1-3/M0 breast cancer diagnosed in 2010–2018 (n = 114,303, including 691 with OBC) were retrieved from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End-Results (SEER) database. The endpoints were overall survival (OS) and breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS). Compared with non-OBC, OBC presented significantly more adverse clinicopathological prognostic features. More patients with OBC underwent breast-conserving treatment (BCT) and less had axillary lymphadenectomy (ALD). Outcomes were more favorable in OBC cases compared with non-OBC cases (p =.002 for OS, p =.002 for BCSS). Triple-negative (TNBC) and HER2-enriched were the subtypes with the worst prognosis in OBC (p <.05). Prognosis was better for triple-negative OBC compared with the same subtype of non-OBC. N-stage was not a strong prognostic indicator of OBC (p >.05 for OS). Cases who underwent systemic chemotherapy alone without surgery had the worst prognosis among OBC patients. For locoregional therapy, mastectomy and radiotherapy could confer survival advantage; standard axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) and positive lymph node dissection (PLND) contributed notably to OS in OBC patients. Both OS and BCSS were better in OBC cases compared with non-OBC. Systemic chemotherapy alone without surgery is not appropriate for OBC treatment, and mastectomy plus standard axillary surgery is recommended. (1) Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate morphological changes of the retina in eyes with dissociated optic nerve fiber layer (DONFL) appearance following internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling for full-thickness idiopathic macular hole (IMH) on spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). (2) Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 39 eyes of 39 patients with type 1 macular hole closure after a vitrectomy with ILM peeling procedure at a six-month minimum postoperative follow-up. The retinal thickness maps and cross-sectional OCT images were obtained from a clinical OCT device. The cross-sectional area of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) on cross-sectional OCT images was manually measured by ImageJ software. (3) Results: The inner retinal layers (IRLs) thickness thinned down much more in the temporal quadrant than in nasal quadrants at 2 and 6 months postoperatively (p < 0.001). However, the cross-sectional area of the RNFL did not change significantly at 2 and 6 months postoperatively (p > 0.05) when compared to preoperative data. In addition, the thinning of the IRL did not correlate with the best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at 6 months postoperatively. (4) Conclusions: The thickness of the IRL decreased in eyes with a DONFL appearance after ILM peeling for IMH. The 3C-like protease (also known as Mpro) plays a key role in SARS-CoV-2 replication and has similar substrates across mutant coronaviruses, making it an ideal drug target. We synthesized 19 thiazolidinedione derivatives via the Knoevenagel condensations and Mitsunobu reactions as potential 3C-like protease inhibitors. The activity of these inhibitors is screened in vitro by employing the enzymatic screening model of 3C-like protease using fluorescence resonance energy transfer. Dithiothreitol is included in the enzymatic reaction system to avoid non-specific enzymatic inhibition. The combination of nitrogen (N) fertilization and straw incorporation has complex influences on soil N transformations and derived nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions. This study aimed to reveal the coupled effects of straw returning forms and N fertilizer management on soil N2O emissions. Here, carbon (C) sources with varied availabilities were supplied by different straw returning forms, including straw, charred straw, and combined application of straw and charred straw. The time gaps between additions of exogenous N and C sources were carried out by managing the timing of N fertilization, including N application simultaneous with or delayed after straw return. Soil N2O emissions under different straw returning forms and their response relationships to soil C, N, microbial biomass, as well as soil pH and oxygen (O2) were explored. Co‐application of straw and N fertilizer provided sufficient C and N sources, enhanced the microbial biomass, and consequently increased N2O emissions. Delayed N fertilization could decouple the response of N2O emissions to straw addition, because of constrained N availability and limited pH decline, which decreased the cumulative N2O emissions significantly. Possibly due to straw induced N immobilization coupled with charred straw induced pH elevation, the combined application of straw and charred straw constrained soil N2O emissions compared with straw only application, regardless of N fertilizer management. By shaping the microbial biomass and soil C, N, and O2 dynamics, delayed application of N fertilizer could further enhance the inhibition effect of the charred straw and straw combination on soil N2O emissions. Therefore, the varied straw returning forms and the timing of N fertilization could affect the supply of available C and N, influencing the hot moments of N2O emissions, and the joint addition of straw and charred straw with a few weeks delayed N application could possibly reduce the risk of soil N2O emissions from straw return systems. Intelligent video surveillance (IVS) technology is widely used in various security systems. However, quality degradation in surveillance images (SIs) may affect its performance on vision-based tasks, leading to the difficulties in the IVS system extracting valid information from SIs. In this paper, we propose a hybrid no-reference image quality assessment (NR IQA) model for SIs that can help to identify undesired distortions and provide useful guidelines for IVS technology. Specifically, we first extract two main types of quality-aware features: the low-level visual features related to various distortions, and the high-level semantic information, which is extracted by a state-of-the-art (SOTA) vision transformer backbone. Then, we fuse these two kinds of features into the final quality-aware feature vector, which is mapped into the quality index through the feature regression module. Our experimental results on two surveillance content quality databases demonstrate that the proposed model achieves the best performance compared to the SOTA on NR IQA metrics. High-performance polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) is highly desirable for a plethora of engineering applications. The incorporation of conductive carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into PEEK can impart electrical conductivity to the otherwise non-conductive matrix, which can further expand the application realm for PEEK composites. However, a number of physical properties, which are central to the functionalities of the composite, are affected by the complex interplay of the crystallinity and presence of the nanofillers, such as CNTs. It is therefore of paramount importance to conduct an in-depth investigation to identify the process that optimizes the mechanical and electrical performance. In this work, PEEK/CNTs composites with different carbon nanotubes (CNTs) content ranging from 0.5 to 10.0 wt% are prepared by a parallel twin-screw extruder. The effects of CNTs content and annealing treatment on the crystallization behavior, mechanical properties and electrical conductivity of the PEEK/CNTs composites are investigated in detail. A non-isothermal crystallization kinetics test reveals a substantial loss in the composites' crystallinity with the increased CNTs content. On the other hand, mechanical tests show that with 5.0 wt% CNTs content, the tensile strength reaches a maximum at 118.2 MPa, which amounts to a rise of 30.3% compared with the neat PEEK sample after annealing treatment. However, additional annealing treatment decreases the electrical conductivity as well as EMI shielding performance. Such a decrease is mainly attributed to the relatively small crystal size of PEEK, which excludes the conductive fillers to the boundaries and disrupts the otherwise conductive networks. The construction of subways, hydroelectric stations and water substations is exposed to stray currents, which can accelerate concrete corrosion. The influence of stray currents on reinforced concrete structures is unclear. In this paper, the influence of concrete strength grade, reinforcement diameter and stray current intensity on the extent of reinforcement corrosion and calcium ion dissolution were investigated, and the damage of reinforcement and calcium ion corrosion to concrete strength was investigated by simulating a stray current environment and conducting an electrified acceleration test. The test results show that the higher the strength grade of concrete, the lower the stray current intensity and the smaller the corrosion rate and calcium ion dissolution rate of reinforcement; with the increase in the diameter of reinforcement the corrosion rate decreases, but the calcium ion dissolution rate is not affected by reinforcement diameter. We investigate the anisotropic pseudospin tunneling effect of electrons through a potential barrier in the α - T 3 model under an uni-axial strain. When compressing the α - T 3 lattice along the armchair direction, a pair of Dirac points in the energy band structure may merge into a single one along the zigzag direction. If the strain is strong enough, the energy gap will open, and the dispersion relation will be linear in the armchair direction but quadratic in the zigzag direction. The merging of Dirac points represents a topological phase transition from a metallic phase to an insulating phase. We found that in the armchair direction, the tunneling properties are similar to the undeformed α - T 3 lattice. For example, when the incident particle is normal to the potential barrier, we find Klein tunneling effect independent of α , and for the dice lattice with the incident energy is equal to half of the barrier height, there occurs super-Klein tunneling. While in the zigzag direction, we get the opposite conclusion in the deformed α - T 3 lattice. The Klein tunneling effect becomes the reflection effect, and the super-Klein tunneling effect is transformed into the total reflection effect, and the conductance with gap opening can be turned off using strain applied along the armchair direction. In order to meet the high-accuracy calibration requirements of satellite remote sensing instruments, a transfer radiometer for an on-orbit radiometric benchmark transfer chain has been developed, which provides vital technical support for realizing the radiometric calibration uncertainty of the order of 10−3 for remote sensing instruments. The primary role of the transfer radiometer is to convert from the spectral power responsivity traceable to a cryogenic radiometer to the spectral radiance responsivity and transfer it to the imaging spectrometer. At a wavelength of 852.1 nm, the combined uncertainty of the radiance measurement comparison experiment between the transfer radiometer and a radiance meter is 0.43% (k = 1), and the relative deviation of the measurements between the transfer radiometer and the radiance meter is better than 0.36%, which is better than the combined uncertainty of the radiance measurement comparison experiment. Haematococcus pluvialis is an ideal natural source of strong antioxidant astaxanthin. Sodium acetate (NaAc) was proven an effective organic carbon source for improving algal growth and astaxanthin production; however, the underlying mechanism remains obscure. To reveal the mechanism of NaAc at the green vegetative stage of H. pluvialis, the physiochemical characteristics and the global protein expression profiles obtained using a tandem mass tag labeling approach were compared between the control (CK) and two NaAc-addition groups. Results show that after NaAc addition, the biomass, nitrate consumption rate, and activities of three carbohydrate metabolism enzymes of H. pluvialis were significantly increased, and the net photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll content decreased. In addition, astaxanthin, total carbohydrates, and total lipids were accumulated, and some red cells appeared in the NaAc5 group. Moreover, 317 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) with the most altered expression patterns were screened out in the CK vs. NaAc5 comparison in our proteomics study. All the DEPs involved in carbohydrate metabolism and lipid metabolism were significantly increased, while most of the photosynthesis-related proteins were depressed in the two NaAc-treated groups. The proteomics results were verified and supported by parallel reaction monitoring approach and physiochemical data. Our findings demonstrate that NaAc promoted the tricarboxylic acid cycle, glyoxylate cycle, and amino acid and lipid synthesis, and inhibited the photosynthesis-related activities, which consequently speeded up the growth and astaxanthin accumulation in this alga. Carr, JC and Ye, X. Strength and electromyographic responses of upper and lower limbs during maximal intermittent contractions in males and females. J Strength Cond Res 36(9): 2403–2409, 2022—This study examined the strength and electromyographic (EMG) responses of upper vs. lower limb muscles during intermittent maximal contractions in both sexes. Twenty subjects (n = 7 women) performed a fatiguing protocol (6, 30-second intermittent maximal isometric contractions with a 50% duty cycle) with either the elbow flexors or the knee extensors on separate visits. Bipolar surface EMG signals were detected from the biceps brachii and vastus lateralis muscles (n = 5 women retained). Women maintained more of their maximal force than men (Δforce: men vs. women = −55.0 ± 12.8% vs. −43.3 ± 9.9%, p = 0.042). Although force loss was similar between the elbow flexors and knee extensors, the EMG responses showed greater reductions for the biceps brachii than those for the vastus lateralis (Δamplitude: biceps brachii vs. vastus lateralis: −32.0 ± 22.3% vs. −18.9 ± 28.9%; Δmedian frequency: biceps brachii vs. vastus lateralis: −31.1 ± 14.5% vs. −10.3 ± 17.0%). During a series of maximal intermittent isometric contractions with 30 seconds of recovery between work bouts, women are more fatigue resistant than men. In addition, the greater electrophysiological fatigue exhibited by the biceps brachii than that by the vastus lateralis suggests that high-intensity contractions involving elbow flexion will have a greater rate of fatigue progression than those involving knee extension. To investigate whether childhood socioeconomic status (SES) is associated with cognitive function, and what factors might mediate the associations. Using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) and within frameworks of the latency model, the pathway model and the accumulation model, we quantified direct and indirect pathways between childhood SES and cognitive function for Chinese middle-aged and older adults aged 45+ by structural equations modeling. We found significant direct, indirect and total effects of childhood SES on cognitive function at baseline. The indirect effects were mediated through educational attainment, household consumption, smoking behaviors and social engagement. At follow-ups, cognitive enhancement can be made by indirect pathways through educational attainment, improvement of household consumption and social engagement. Our results supported the latency model, the pathway model and the accumulation model when considering pathways linking childhood SES to cognitive function. The work aims to theoretically and experimentally investigate the radiation characteristics of the plasma window antenna for beam-steering applications. The antenna system consists of a wire antenna in the center, surrounded by a circular array of 22 cylindrical plasma columns. The research reveals that the radiation pattern of the antenna system can be simply controlled by exploiting the variable parameters, such as working frequency, driving current, and plasma configurations. It implies that the beam narrows as the plasma antenna aperture decreases, implying a greater directivity. By electrically tuning the plasma, a maximum directivity of 9.09 dBi and a minimum half-power beam width of 35.86∘ emerged for a specific configuration. Various types of marine-continental transitional facies are present in the gas-bearing shales of the southeastern Sichuan Basin. A review of the different lithological assemblages in these rocks is important for assessing the likely shale gas content and the development of the storage space. This study of the lithological assemblages of the Permian Longtan Formation in the southeastern Sichuan Basin at Well X1 used core observations, optical thin-section observations, Ar-ion polishing, scanning electron microscopy, and nitrogen adsorption tests to compare and analyze storage space types and pore structures in the shale to determine the sedimentary paleoenvironment, petromineralogy, and organic content. The marine-continental transitional facies in the study area were deposited in a warm climate that favored enrichment by organic matter. The kerogen is type II2-III (average vitrinite reflectance 2.66%), which is within the favorable thermal maturity range for the presence of shale gas. The lithology mainly consists of shale, siltstone, and limestone (with bioclasts), as well as a coal seam. The lithological development divides the Longtan Formation into lower (swamp), middle (tidal flat/lagoon), and upper (delta) sub-members. From lower to upper divisions, the lithofacies evolved from silty shale to clay shale and then to shale intercalated with siltstone or calcareous layers. The proportions of intergranular and dissolution pores in the clay minerals decrease gradually from lower to upper sub-members, and pore size sizes also tend to decrease. Relatively large-diameter pores and microfractures occur in the inorganic matter in the lowest sub-member. Quartz and clay are the main constituents of the shale, respectively contributing to the specific surface area and specific pore volume of the reservoir space. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study further explores the multinomial probit-based integrated choice and latent variable (ICLV) models. The LDLT matrix-based analytic approximation methods, including Mendell and Elston (ME) method, bivariate ME (BME) method, and two-variate bivariate screening (TVBS) method, were adapted to calculate the multivariate cumulative normal distribution (MVNCD) function in the ICLV model because of the better performances in accuracy and computational time. Integrated with the composite marginal likelihood (CML) estimation approach, the ICLV model based on high-dimensional integration can be estimated accurately within a reasonable time. In this study, some three-alternative and four-alternative ICLV models are simulated to examine their abilities to recover model parameters. It is found that the parameter estimates and standard error estimates are acceptable for both models and the computational time is expected to decrease using tensor data structures on the TensorFlow platform. For the four-alternative ICLV models, the TVBS method has the highest level of accuracy. The BME method is also a good alternative to TVBS if computational time is of great concern. The application of the automatic differentiation (AD) technique in the model can free researchers from coding analytical gradients of log-likelihood functions and thereby greatly reduce the workload of researchers. Although Notch signalling pathway could control the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells (NSCs), it is largely unknown about the effect of Notch signalling pathway on the neurogenesis of CD133‐positive cells. By using the primary cultured ependymal cells and the transgenic mouse, we found that CD133 immunoreactivity was exclusively localized in the ependymal layer of ventricles; moreover, most CD133‐positive cells were co‐labelled with Nestin. In addition, recombination signal binding protein J (RBP‐J), a key nuclear effector of Notch signalling pathway, was highly active in CD133‐positive cells. CD133‐positive cells can differentiate into the immature and mature neurons; in particular, the number of CD133‐positive cells differentiating into the immature and mature neurons was significantly increased following the deficiency or interference of RBP‐J in vivo or in vitro. By using real‐time qPCR and Western blot, we found that RBP‐J and Hes1 were downregulated, whereas Notch1 was upregulated in the expression levels of mRNAs and proteins following the deficiency or interference of RBP‐J. These results demonstrated RBP‐J deficiency promoted the proliferation and differentiation of CD133‐positive cells. Therefore, we speculated that RBP‐J could maintain CD133‐positive cells in the characteristics of NSCs possibly by regulating Notch1/RBP‐J/Hes1 pathway. It will provide a novel molecular insight into the function of RBP‐J as well as facilitate a future investigation of CD133‐positive cells with respect to their potential application in neurodegenerative disorder. Objective: Fetal and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (FNAIT) is a bleeding disease that can cause fetal hydrops, a rare but life‐threatening condition in which abnormal amounts of fluid accumulate in one or two areas of the fetus's body. A case of FNAIT with fetal hydrops caused by anti‐HPA‐15b antibodies was involved in this study, as we investigated whether or not anti‐HPA‐15b antibodies can induce endothelial angiogenesis and apoptosis. Methods: The monoclonal antibody immobilization of platelet antigens assay (MAIPA) was used to identify anti‐HPA‐15b antibodies. The three groups in Tube formation and apoptosis assays were the PBS group, the AB serum IgG group, and the anti‐HPA‐15b serum IgG group, all reacted with HPA‐15bb HUVEC. Results: The presence of anti‐HPA‐15b antibodies was found in this case by MAIPA assay. The OD values are 0.33 and 0.21, reacted with HPA‐15bb and HPA‐15ab platelets, respectively (cutoff OD value = 0.2). Quantitative analysis revealed that the length of capillary‐like tube induced by anti‐HPA‐15b antibodies was significantly decreased over that of AB serum IgG (*p = 0.0005), but weaker than when incubated with thrombin (**p = 0.0009). The apoptosis results show a significantly increased number of apoptotic endothelial cells in the anti‐HPA‐15b antibody IgG group when compared with the PBS and AB serum IgG groups (*p < 0.0001, **p < 0.0001). In addition, there is no statistical difference between the PBS and AB serum groups. Conclusion: Anti‐HPA‐15b antibodies can inhibit angiogenesis and induce apoptosis. Excess nitrogen (N) loading is one of the main factors causing eutrophication. Biological N fixation (BNF), as a main contributor to N loading, plays a critical role in the N cycle. The N2 fixation rate (N2fix) is regulated by many factors and is usually higher under conditions of N deficiency. Most studies have focused on the regulation of factors that influence the N2fix in specific aquatic ecosystems or artificial conditions, while fewer have focused on large scale such as the latitudinal distribution of N2fix. To understand the regulation of the N2fix in latitudinal zones, the key factors, and the underlying mechanism, we compared the N2fix in 27 lakes located in different latitudinal zones and analyzed the main regulators. The results showed that (1) heterocyst density (DHet) and the N2fix were highest in low-temperate lakes and were 2.5–2.7 and 11.6–22.1 times greater than in high-temperate lakes and tropical lakes, respectively, in the 99th quantile; (2) DHet increased and then decreased with increasing latitude and radiation, and peaked at 30.28° N and 2300 J/cm/d; (3) DHet was positively correlated with temperature and increased slightly with increasing temperature; (4) N2fix increased and then decreased with increasing latitude, temperature and radiation, and peaked at 38.8° N, 24.21 °C and 2120 J/cm/d. The results suggest that BNF could be regulated by larger scale factors, e.g., temperature and radiation in latitudinal scale. Vibrio parahaemolyticus (VP) is an essential foodborne bacterium who can cause gastroenteritis. However, current detection methods generally still have the difficulty for quickly screening VP strains and accurately detecting VP. In this work, a sensitive and specific multiplex microfluidic-LAMP (MMLAMP) method was constructed to rapidly detect VP using a centrifugal microfluidic chip combined with LAMP. The system enables simultaneous detection of two hemolysin genes (tlh and trh) and one VP regulatory factor (toxR) in a single chip improving the accuracy for detecting VP. The MMLAMP system detected 2.42 × 104 copies/μL of the plasmid (tlh -pUC57), 4.44 × 103 copies/μL of the plasmid (trh -pUC57) and 4.86 × 104 copies/μL of the plasmid (toxR -pUC57) in less than 35 min, respectively. Meanwhile, MMLAMP system was successfully applied for VP detection in artificially contaminated samples, the LOD is 220 CFU/g, which is 10 times lower than that of qPCR within the same detection time. The system also demonstrated 100 % specificity and good precision (C.V. < 5 %) in detecting the three targets of the VP, providing a new approach for point-of-care testing (POCT) of VP. • Percutaneous intervention is important in tumor-related diagnosis and therapy. • Using bevel-tipped flexible needle can generate curved trajectories to avoid obstacles and important organs. • A model was proposed for describing the bending of the needle. Percutaneous insertion is one of the most common minimally invasive procedures. Compared with traditional straight rigid needles, bevel-tipped flexible needle can generate curved trajectories to avoid obstacles and sensitive organs. However, the nonlinear large deflection problem challenges the bending prediction of the needle, which dramatically influences the surgical success rate. This paper analyzed the mechanism of needle-tissue interaction, and established a mechanics-based model of the needle bending during an insertion. And then, a discretization of the bending model was adopted to accurately predict the large bending of the needle in soft tissue. Insertion experiments were conducted to validate the bending prediction model. The results showed that the large needle bending was predicted with the mean/RMSE/maximumu error of 0.42 mm / 0.26 mm / 1.08 mm, which was clinically acceptable. This paper developed a mixed multinomial probit (MMNP) model with alternative error specification and random coefficients (for both generic variables and personal attributes) to accommodate flexible covariance structure and taste variation. The MMNP model can be efficiently estimated with analytic approximations of multivariate normal cumulative distribution functions, which avoid defects of simulation-based integration in the mixed multinomial logit (MMNL) model. The integral dimension of the MMNL model increases as random coefficients increase, but it only depends on the number of available alternatives in the MMNP model. Simulation experiments and empirical analysis of Shanghai commuters' mode choice behavior were undertaken to examine the performance of MMNP models. Both simulation results and empirical results show that MMNP models can well accommodate flexible covariance structures and taste variation reflected through random coefficients being associated with both generic and personal variables. Empirical results indicate that the MMNP model performs better than traditional discrete choice models, such as the multinomial logit, the cross-nested logit, MMNL, and multinomial probit models. Random coefficients of "in-vehicle time of car" and "number of companions" indicate taste heterogeneity and the identifiability of random coefficients associated with both generic and personal attributes. Pairwise positive correlations between car/taxi, bus/metro, and bus/bus and metro are to be expected. However, the positive correlation between the car and metro modes may be unique to the Chinese city, Shanghai, because of the developed metro system. Unequal error variances reflect heterogeneities in unspecified factors in commute modes' utilities. The MMNP model will offer an alternative efficient way to accommodate taste heterogeneity and flexible error covariance structure in discrete choice models. Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) is an environmental hormone disrupter. This study was designed to investigate whether DBP adsorbed in multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) can easily cross the blood-testis barrier and slow down the degradation of DBP in male mice, thereby prolonging the interference effect of DBP. The results showed that: in male Balb/C mice, the sperm density of the MWCNTs group and the DBP plus MWCNTs group decreased significantly (p < 0.05); and the sperm deformity rate increased significantly (p < 0.05). Testicular tissue sections from the combined exposure group showed that most of the seminiferous tubules were atrophied, there were more large gaps between the cells in the tubules, and the number of mature-sperm decreased. The reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels increased significantly in the combined exposure group (p < 0.01). Proteomics results showed that there were 231 differentially expressed proteins in the combined exposure group compared with the MWCNTs only group, and 69 differentially expressed proteins compared with the DBP group. GO enrichment analysis showed that the differentially expressed proteins mainly include: 60 s acid ribosomal protein P1; nuclear autoantigen sperm protein; centromere protein V; and other proteins related to cell division. These results indicate that MWCNTs with adsorbed DBP can increase oxidative damage in the testis of male mice, interfere with DNA replication and cell division in testicular tissue cells, induce cell apoptosis, and destroy the normal spermatogenic function of the testis. • CNTs and DBP can form compounds through π - π bond adsorption. • The sperm density decreased significantly in the compound group. • Compound exposure affects spermatogenesis. • CNTs adsorbed DBP interfere with DNA replication of testicular cells and induce apoptosis. Aim: To examine the association of life‐course socioeconomic status (SES) and mobility with allostatic load (AL) in a large cohort of Chinese middle‐aged and older adults. Methods: Drawing on data from 17 552 middle‐aged and older adults from three waves of a longitudinal study conducted in China in 2011–2015, generalized estimating equation (GEE) models were used for the overall sample and subsample to examine the association between life‐course SES and AL. Results: On the whole, those who were literate had lower AL (β = −0.034, 95% CI = −0.065, −0.004), while those with a non‐agricultural occupation (β = 0.093, 95% CI = 0.065, 0.120) and better financial status in childhood (β = 0.037, 95% CI = 0.012, 0.063) or adulthood (β = 0.033, 95% CI = 0.009, 0.058) had higher AL. In terms of SES mobility, a stable high education was associated with lower AL (β = −0.041, 95% CI = −0.078, −0.004). Upward (β = 0.090, 95% CI = 0.061, 0.120) or stable high (β = 0.075, 95% CI = 0.025, 0.125) occupation was related to higher AL. Downward (β = 0.034, 95% CI = 0.003, 0.064) or stable high (β = 0.072, 95% CI = 0.037, 0.107) financial status was associated with higher AL. Education manifested no associations with AL for the rural and men samples. Financial status showed no relationship with AL for the urban sample. Conclusions: Our findings demonstrate the importance of applying life‐course models for gaining an understanding of SES and AL. Background: Hearing loss has been associated with serious health problems around the globe. Previous studies have found the positive effects of fitting hearing aids on health, but few studies were conducted in developing countries. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of hearing aids on multiple health outcomes among middle-aged and older adults with hearing loss in rural China.Methods: In this randomized controlled trial (RCT), participants aged 45 and above were randomly assigned to the treatment group prescribing with hearing aids or to the control group with no intervention. Trial outcomes for 385 participants were collected during the 20-month follow-up study. Using the difference-in-difference approach, our primary outcomes were hearing-related quality of life (QoL) and generic QoL.Results: The intervention led to improvements in hearing-related QoL, presenting as the reduction in Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly Screening Version (HHIE-S) scores (interaction coefficient = - 2.86, p = 0.005), HHIE-S-Emotional scores (interaction coefficient = - 1.42, p = 0.029), and HHIE-S-Situational scores (interaction coefficient = - 1.43, p = 0.007). The intervention was also effective in alleviating the increase in depressive symptoms (interaction coefficient = - 0.14, p = 0.042). Subgroup analysis revealed that the effects were only shown among people with social activities or active social networks.Conclusions: Our study is the first RCT in China to measure the health effects and heterogeneity of hearing aid interventions. Wearing hearing aids can help improve hearing-related QoL and alleviate the increase in depressive symptoms. The Earth's radiation budget (ERB), measured at the top of the atmosphere (TOP), quantifies the radiation imbalance between the Earth–atmosphere system and space. The ERB's measurement accuracy depends on the observation system's design and calibration technology. Fitting regional scanning data from polar satellite payloads is the most common way to obtain the global radiation budget. Additionally, the radiometers are calibrated by onboard stable radiation sources. We propose a new ERB radiometer operating at the Lagrange L1 point of the Earth–Moon system, which has the characteristic of observing the Earth and Moon on a hemispheric spatial scale. Hence, earth-integrated radiation can be measured directly. Furthermore, the Moon is used as a natural source for on-orbit calibration, and the attenuation of the instrument is monitored and corrected through periodic observations. This paper presents the concept of the radiometer and focuses on the design and analysis of the radiometer's observation systems based on optical design and stray radiation suppression. The results show that the system has good imaging quality. The external stray radiation suppression reached an order of 10−8, and the thermal stray radiation can be eliminated by temperature control and compensation. With the process of population aging and urbanization, a vast amount of studies have confirmed the increasing urban-rural cognition gaps, while less is known about the extent to which cognition gaps can be explained by urban-rural difference and urbanization status. This study aimed to examine the role of urbanization in bridging the cognition gaps for Chinese middle-aged and older adults. Based on the national representative China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) 2015, the Blinder–Oaxaca decomposition method was employed. The method uses stratified linear regression to disaggregate cognition gaps into explained and unexplained differences, as well as the absolute and relative attribution of explanatory factors. There were significant cognitive differences between urban and rural samples. Migrating to the urban predicts better cognition among the rural-born. A larger environment-related explained gap existed for those fully urbanized and those migrating earlier, indicating that migration can operate through a beneficial and cumulative change in the environment and bridge the urban-rural cognition gap. Public health actions targeting cognitive disparities can benefit from focusing on the unequal distribution in urban-rural social and economic recourses.
