BackgroundThe internet allows patients to easily look for health information. However, how Chinese patients with breast cancer use the internet has rarely been investigated, and there is a scarcity of information about the influence of internet use on survival. ObjectiveThis observational study aimed to investigate the details of online medical information searching by Chinese patients with breast cancer and to determine whether internet use has any survival benefits. MethodsPatients who were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer at Peking Union Medical College Hospital between January 2014 and December 2015 were enrolled. We obtained information on their internet-searching behavior and gathered data from the patients’ medical and follow-up records. The associations between internet use and other clinic-pathological factors were analyzed. A Cox proportional-hazards model and the Kaplan-Meier method were used for disease-free survival (DFS) analyses. ResultsA total of 973 patients with invasive breast cancer who underwent definitive surgery took part in the study. Among them, 477 cases (49.0%) performed web-based breast cancer information searching before the initial treatment. Abstract Aiming at the problems of insufficient ability of artificial COA in the late optimization search period, loss of population diversity, easy to fall into local extreme value, resulting in slow convergence and lack of exploration ability; In this paper, an improved COA algorithm based on chaotic sequence, nonlinear inertia weight, adaptive T-distribution variation strategy and alert updating strategy is proposed to enhance the performance of COA (shorted as TNTWCOA). The algorithm introduces chaotic sequence mechanism to initialize the position. The position distribution of the initial solution is more uniform, the high quality initial solution is generated, the population richness is increased, and the problem of poor quality and uneven initial solution of the Coati Optimization Algorithm is solved. In exploration phase, the nonlinear inertial weight factor is introduced to coordinate the local optimization ability and global search ability of the algorithm. In the exploitation phase, adaptive T-distribution variation is introduced to increase the diversity of individual population under low fitness value and improve the ability of the algorithm to jump out of the local optimal value. At the same time, the alert update mechanism is proposed to improve the alert ability of COA algorithm, so that it can search within the optional range. When Coati is aware of the danger, Coati on the edge of the population will quickly move to the safe area to obtain a better position, while Coati in the middle of the population will randomly move to get closer to other Coatis. IEEE CEC2017 with 29 classic test functions were used to evaluate the convergence speed, convergence accuracy and other indicators of TNTWCOA algorithm. Meanwhile, TNTWCOA was used to verify 4 engineering design optimization problems, such as pressure vessel optimization design and welding beam design. The results of IEEE CEC2017 and engineering design Optimization problems are compared with Improved Coati Optimization Algorithm (ICOA), Coati Optimization Algorithm (COA), Golden Jackal Optimization Algorithm (GJO), Osprey Optimization Algorithm (OOA), Sand Cat Swarm Optimization Algorithm (SCSO), Subtraction-Average-Based Optimizer (SABO). The experimental results show that the improved TNTWCOA algorithm significantly improves the convergence speed and optimization accuracy, and has good robustness. Three‑bar truss design problem, The Gear Train Design Problem, Speed reducer design problem shows a strong solution advantage. The superior optimization ability and engineering practicability of TNTWCOA algorithm are verified.

The rice root-knot nematode Meloidogyne graminicola is increasingly widely distributed in China and has had a severe incidence in Hunan Province. It is thus necessary to investigate its population dynamics in paddy fields. This study was conducted to ascertain the effect of direct-seeded rice agroecosystems on the population dynamics of M. graminicola and root gall development in rice. The results indicated that the population density of M. graminicola in soil was markedly influenced by the agroecosystem, rainfall and temperature. The population density of M. graminicola J2, and eggs in the soil and root galls, were significantly larger in the dry aerobic rice agroecosystem and in the rain-fed upland agroecosystem than in the lowland double-rice cropping sequence agroecosystem. As it can affect soil moisture rainfall was the key factor affecting the density of nematodes in both the rain-fed upland agroecosystem and the dry aerobic rice agroecosystem. Field flooding was still an effective way to reduce the population density of M. graminicola. In addition, we observed that M. graminicola can lay eggs outside rice roots under laboratory conditions. Therefore, we propose a hypothesis that M. graminicola lays egg masses within roots when the soil moisture is high, but lays eggs outside when the soil moisture is suitable. By clarifying the population dynamics of M. graminicola in different types of direct-seeded rice agroecosystems, this study is conducive to controlling rice root-knot nematodes.

Seed vigor is an important aspect of seed quality. It is critical to predict seed vigor and plant seedling emergence under diverse environmental conditions using the laboratory vigor test. Accordingly, laboratory experiments were conducted to determine the standard germination (SG), early individual counts of radicle emergence (RE), mean germination time (MGT), and vigor index (VI) for 16 commercially available seed lots of Siberian wildrye (Elymus sibiricus), an economically and ecological important grass species. The field emergence (FE) for seed lots was explored using a three-year field trial from 2021 to 2023. Meanwhile, pot experiments were carried out to determine the seedling emergence performance under different environmental conditions, including control, drought, and salinity stress. The correlation and regression analysis were done to investigate the links between laboratory vigor test with emergence performance under both field and pot conditions. The results showed that the SG of 16 seed lots were high, similar, and did not differ significantly between seed lots. However, the seedling emergence performance (emergence percentage, seedling dry weight, and simplified vigor index) differed significantly between seed lots under both field and pot conditions. The SG was not significantly correlated with seedling emergence performance under either the field or pot conditions. The counts of RE at selected timing, MGT, and VI showed a significant relationship with seed vigor as reflected by seedling emergence performance under diverse environmental conditions, and we found that RE at 108 h was highly predictive of seed vigor and seedling emergence. The RE at 108 h and VI were positively related to seed vigor, while MGT was negatively related. The seed lots with low vigor had lower RE at 108 h and VI but longer MGT. Overall, both RE at 108 h, MGT, and VI can be used to estimate seed vigor and predict seedling emergence under different environmental conditions, and we highly recommend RE at 108 h as a quick, precise, and convenient vigor test and early warning sign for seed storage of E. sibiricus. These results will enable seed researchers, plant breeders, farmers, and government program directors to target higher seed vigor more effectively for E. sibiricus and similar grass species.

Portland cement concrete (PCC) is a major contributor to human-made CO2 emissions. To address this environmental impact, fly ash geopolymer concrete (FAGC) has emerged as a promising low-carbon alternative. This study establishes a robust compressive strength prediction model for FAGC and develops an optimal mixture design method to achieve target compressive strength with minimal CO2 emissions. To develop robust prediction models, comprehensive factors, including fly ash characteristics, mixture proportions, curing parameters, and specimen types, are considered, a large dataset comprising 1136 observations is created, and polynomial regression, genetic programming, and ensemble learning are employed. The ensemble learning model shows superior accuracy and generalization ability with an RMSE value of 1.81 MPa and an R2 value of 0.93 in the experimental validation set. Then, the study integrates the developed strength model with a life cycle assessment-based CO2 emissions model, formulating an optimal FAGC mixture design program. A case study validates the effectiveness of this program, demonstrating a 16.7% reduction in CO2 emissions for FAGC with a compressive strength of 50 MPa compared to traditional trial-and-error design. Moreover, compared to PCC, the developed FAGC achieves a substantial 60.3% reduction in CO2 emissions. This work provides engineers with tools for compressive strength prediction and low carbon optimization of FAGC, enabling rapid and highly accurate design of concrete with lower CO2 emissions and greater sustainability. In paleobiology and macroevolution research, the spatial aggregation of fossil data can be influenced by the modifiable areal unit problem (MAUP), wherein the selection of different grid-cell sizes for data aggregation can lead to variations in statistical results. This study presents a case analysis focused on the spatial extent of marine bivalves and brachiopods over time across three Areas of Interest (AOIs) to evaluate the potential impact of the MAUP in grid-based fossil data processing. By employing rectangular grid matrices with cell sizes of 50, 100, 200, and 400 km, this research assesses the MAUP-related sensitivity of two commonly used grid-based proxies for species' spatial distribution. The results reveal that the proxy based on the number of occupied grid cells (OGCs) is particularly sensitive to changes in cell size, whereas the proxy based on minimum-spanning-tree distance (MST distance) demonstrates greater robustness across varying grid scales. This study underscores that when constructing proxies for species' spatial distribution ranges using grid matrices, the OGC method is more susceptible to MAUP effects than the MST distance method, warranting increased caution in studies employing the OGC approach. Abstract Background Healthcare providers’ dementia-care competence is crucial for quality dementia care. A reliable and valid instrument is needed to assess the gaps in their dementia-care competence, and thereby identifying their educational needs. Therefore, this study aims to translate the 17-item Sense of Competence in Dementia Care Staff (SCIDS) scale into Chinese (SCIDS-C) and to validate the SCIDS-C among Chinese healthcare providers. Methods The translation procedure followed the modified Brislin’s translation model. A cross-sectional survey was conducted using the translated version. The validity, including content validity, confirmatory factor analysis, concurrent validity and known-groups validity, was tested. Reliability in terms of internal consistency and test-retest reliability with a 2-week interval was evaluated. Results A total of 290 healthcare providers in 12 nursing homes and a hospital completed the survey. The scale-level content validity index was .99. The confirmatory factor analysis model marginally supported the original 4-factor structure. Objectives: Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most aggressive of intracranial gliomas. Despite the maximal treatment intervention, the median survival rate is still about 14–16 months. Nuclear receptor‐binding protein 1 (NRBP1) has a potential growth‐promoting role on biology function of cells. In this study, we investigated whether NRBP1 promotes GBM malignant phenotypes and the potential mechanisms. Methods: The correlation between NRBP1 and glioma grade, prognosis in TCGA/CGGA databases and our clinical data were analyzed. Next, we conducted knockout and overexpression of NRBP1 on GBM cells to verify that NRBP1 promoted cell proliferation, invasion, and migration in vitro and in vivo. Finally, we detected the impact of NRBP1 on PI3K/Akt signaling pathway and EMT. Results: There was a correlation between elevated NRBP1 expression and advanced stage glioma, as well as decreased overall and disease‐free survival. The suppression of proliferation, invasion, and migration of tumor cells was observed upon NRBP1 knockout, and in vitro studies also demonstrated the induction of apoptotic cell death. Whereas, its overexpression is associated with high multiplication rate, migration, invasion, and apoptotic escape. GO enrichment and KEGG analysis revealed that NRBP1 regulated differentially expressed gene clusters are involved in PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, as well as EMT mediated by this pathway. Moreover, the effects of NRBP1 knockdown and overexpression on GBM were mitigated by MK‐2206 and SC79, both of which respectively function as an inhibitor and an activator of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Similarly, the suppression of NRBP1 led to a decrease in tumor growth, whereas its overexpression promoted tumor growth in a mouse model. Conclusions: This study shows that NRBP1 promotes malignant phenotypes in GBM by activating PI3K/Akt pathway. Background: Smell loss significantly impacts the quality of life in patients. However, there is limited research on smell loss in individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and the correlation between smell loss and cognitive impairment is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between smell loss and cognition impairment in ALS patients. Methods: The study included 216 ALS patients. The Edinburgh Cognitive and Behavioural ALS Screen (ECAS) and smell identification test specifically for the Chinese population (CSIT) were administered to evaluate participants' cognitive and olfactory function, respectively. Results: After covarying for age, sex, BMI, education level, degree of hunger, dietary bias, eagerness for food, stress, smoking status, alcohol consumption, and upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) or rhinitis, CSIT scores were significantly correlated with ECAS scores (r = 0.162, p = 0.028), especially the ALS‐specific scores (r = 0.158, p = 0.031). Even after excluding patients with URTI or rhinitis, the results were similar. CSIT scores were significantly correlated with ECAS scores (r = 0.224, p = 0.011), especially the ALS‐specific scores (r = 0.205, p = 0.019). Conclusion: In patients with ALS, smell loss is significantly correlated with cognitive impairment, particularly frontotemporal dysfunction. Aims: To comprehensively examine the prevailing condition of care dependence among middle‐aged individuals who have experienced hemiplegia subsequent to a stroke and were currently undergoing post‐acute rehabilitation. Additionally, the study sought to analyse the determinants that impacted this phenomenon. Design: A single‐centre, cross‐sectional study design. Methods: During the period from January 2020 to October 2022, a cohort of 196 hemiplegic stroke patients, aged between 40 and 65, and within 6 months of their stroke onset, was selected from the cerebrovascular outpatient clinic at a tertiary hospital in Hangzhou. The demographic and disease‐related data, care dependence level, mental state, nutrition and depression status were collected. Furthermore, all collected data were analysed by descriptive and correlative statistical methods. Results: The care dependence level was 51.04 ± 9.42, with an incidence of care dependence of 78.1%. Multivariate regression analysis showed that age, history of falls, physical dysfunction, chronic comorbidities, depression, nutritional status and cognitive dysfunction were influencing factors for care dependence in the participants after a stroke. Conclusion: The incidence of care dependence among hemiplegic patients aged from 40 to 65 years old in the early stage after a stroke was high. Nursing staff should focus on these patients with a history of falling, physical dysfunction, comorbidity, depression status, nutritional status and cognitive dysfunction in clinical practice. Relevance to Clinical Practice: The incidence of care dependence in middle‐aged hemiplegic patients following a stroke is significantly increased. Some risk factors should be assessed, monitored, and controlled by nursing staff as early as possible in order to reduce the dependence levels in post‐acute rehabilitation period and improve the quality of life of hemiplegia patients. Objective To investigate the infection of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) and its resistance to six kinds of antibiotics in Shenzhen. Methods Urease test and Hp cultivation were performed in 5 080 patients with gastrointestinal discomfort in three hospitals in Shenzhen, and antibiotic sensitivity test of agar dilution was performed. Results Among the 5 080 patients, a total of 3 203 patients were Hp positive, with a positive rate of 63.05%. The resistance rate of 3 203 Hp strains to antibiotics was metronidazole (MNZ)(99.6%),amoxicillin(AMX)(30.5%),clarithromycin(CAM)(10.6%), doxycycline (DOX) (0.3%), furazolidone(FR) (0.2%), and levofloxacin(LVX) (0.1%). The rates of total sensitivity to Hp was 0.18%, single drug resistance, double and multiple drug resistance were 62.06%, 33.94% and 3.81%, respectively. MNZ and AMX had the highest double drug resistance (26.69%), while MNZ, CAM and AMX had the highest triple drug resistance (3.68%). The age ≤40 years seems to be a factor for single antibiotic resistance, while the age ＞40 years is a risk factor for double antibiotic resistance of Hp strain. Gender is an influence factor of Hp strain on CAM and single and double antibiotic resistance. Conclusions Hp has a high infection rate and high resistance to MNZ, followed by AMX and CAM.
