Background/Aim: Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of neurodegenerative disorder in elderly individuals worldwide. Increasing evidence suggests that periodontal diseases are involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease, and an association between periodontitis and amyloid-β deposition in elderly individuals has been demonstrated. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of systemic administration of Porphyromonas gingivalis-derived lipopolysaccharide (PG-LPS) on neprilysin expression in the hippocampus of adult and senescence-accelerated mice. Materials and Methods: PG-LPS diluted in saline was intraperitoneally administered to male C57BL/6J and senescence-accelerated mouse prone 8 (SAMP8) mice at a dose of 5 mg/kg every 3 days for 3 months. Both C57BL/6J and SAMP8 mice administered saline without PG-LPS comprised the control group. The mRNA expression levels of neprilysin and interleukin (IL)-10 were evaluated using the quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction. The protein levels of neprilysin were assessed using western blotting. Sections of the brain tissues were immunohistochemically stained. Results: The serum IL-10 concentration significantly increased in both mouse strains after stimulation with PG-LPS. Neprilysin expression at both mRNA and protein levels was significantly lower in the SAMP8 PG-LPS group than those in the SAMP8 control group; however, they did not differ in PG-LPS-treated or non-treated C57BL/6J mice. Additionally, the immunofluorescence intensity of neprilysin in the CA3 region of the hippocampus in PG-LPS-treated SAMP8 mice was significantly lower than that in control SAMP8 mice. Conclusion: Porphyromonas gingivalis may reduce the expression of neprilysin in elderly individuals and thus increase amyloid-β deposition.

Gingival tissue shows progressive changes with aging and an in vitro model of gingival tissue could be useful in understanding age-associated oral diseases. The present study aims to establish a hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) treatment model to induce aging in human gingival epithelial cells. In addition, fisetin, a flavonoid component studied for the anti-aging property is used to examine if it could reverse the induced senescence. Primary human gingival epithelial progenitor (HGEPp) cells were cultured and treated with different concentrations of H2O2. A cell vitality and morphology, senescence-associated beta-galactosidase (SA-β-gal) staining, mRNA and protein expression analysis of known senescence markers p16, p21, and p53, and cell cycle assay were performed. The cells showed dose-dependent changes in vitality and morphology, SA-β-gal staining, relative mRNA and protein expression, and cell cycle assay after H2O2 treatment. Based on these results, 400 μM H2O2 was considered as an optimal concentration to induce senescence. Treatment of senescence-induced cells with fisetin downregulated all the senescence markers used in this study. In conclusion, a senescence model of gingival epithelial cells induced by hydrogen peroxide treatment was established which could be employed to study age-related periodontal diseases.

After the development of chirped pulse amplification by G. Mouro, laser ion acceleration has attracted a lot of interest for various fields of research, such as high energy density physics, nuclear physics, and fast ignition scheme in inertial confinement fusion. Recent theoretical and numerical investigations predict generation of sub-GeV to GeV energy ions. However, it is difficult to discriminate GeV-scale ions into different mass and energies using conventional diagnostic instruments (e.g. Thomson parabola spectrometer, solid state nuclear track detector). We have developed a novel diagnostic system based on particle counting analysis (PCA), which is generally used in nuclear physics experiments. The diagnosis provides a mass-dependent ion spectrum based on time-of-flight and pulse-height analysis of single particle events. With a novel arrangement of multiple scintillators with different ion stopping powers, PCA offers potential advantages over commonly used diagnostics in terms of coverage solid angle, detection efficiency, and real-time analysis for GeV-scale ions. The basic detector setup was tested using the Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC) in Japan. Our system shows its ability to resolve protons, B^5+, C^6+, and O^8+ ion beams with energy range of 60-430 MeV/u. We also discuss an advanced detector design using multi-layered scintillator pixel array coupled with avalanche photodiodes, which allows angularly-resolved analysis and makes PCA more practical diagnostic technique in laser-driven particle acceleration experiments., High Temperature Plasma Diagnostics Conference 2022

Fucoxanthin and its metabolite fucoxanthinol (FxOH), highly polar xanthophylls, exert strong anticancer effects against many cancer cell types. However, the effects of Fx and FxOH on pancreatic cancer, a high mortality cancer, remain unclear. We herein investigated whether FxOH induces apoptosis in human pancreatic cancer cells. FxOH (5.0 μmol/L) significantly promoted the growth of human pancreatic cancer PANC-1 cells, but induced apoptosis in human colorectal cancer DLD-1 cells. A microarray-based gene analysis revealed that the gene sets of cell cycle, adhesion, PI3K/AKT, MAPK, NRF2, adipogenesis, TGF-β, STAT, and Wnt signals in PANC-1 cells were markedly altered by FxOH. The Weibel instability is investigated using relativistic intense short laser pulses. A relativistic short laser pulse can generate a sub-relativistic high-density collisionless plasma. By irradiating double parallel planar targets with two relativistic laser pulses, sub-relativistic collisionless counterstreaming plasmas are created. Since the growth rate of the Weibel instability is proportional to the plasma density and velocity, the spatial and temporal scales of the Weibel instability can be much smaller than that from nanosecond large laser facilities. Recent theoretical and numerical studies have revealed that astrophysical collisionless shocks in sub-relativistic regimes in the absence and presence of an ambient magnetic field play essential roles in cosmic ray acceleration. With experimental verification in mind, we discuss the possible experimental models on the Weibel instability with intense short laser pulses. In order to show the experimental feasibility, we perform 2D particle-in-cell simulations in the absence of an external magnetic field as the first step and discuss the optimum conditions to realize the nonlinear evolutions of the Weibel instability in laboratories.

Nuclear reactions between protons and boron-11 nuclei (p–B fusion) that were used to yield energetic α-particles were initiated in a plasma that was generated by the interaction between a PW-class laser operating at relativistic intensities (~3 × 1019 W/cm2) and a 0.2-mm thick boron nitride (BN) target. A high p–B fusion reaction rate and hence, a large α-particle flux was generated and measured, thanks to a proton stream accelerated at the target’s front surface. This was the first proof of principle experiment to demonstrate the efficient generation of α-particles (~1010/sr) through p–B fusion reactions using a PW-class laser in the “in-target” geometry.

Background/aim Sex determining region Y (SRY)-box 2 (SOX2) is a transcription factor essential for the maintenance of proliferation and self-renewal of cancer stem cells and is associated with breast cancer initiation. Regulation of cancer stem cell plasticity by SOX2 requires both positive and negative SOX2 transcription factors, but the negative regulator is still largely unknown. Materials and methods SOX2 promoter-binding proteins were identified by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry, luciferase assay, and chromatin immunoprecipitation. The effects of one such transcription factor on SOX2 expression was investigated by knockdown and overexpression experiments. Results Non-POU domain-containing octamer-binding protein (NONO) (also known as 54-kDa nuclear RNA-binding protein, P54NRB) was identified as a SOX2 promoter-binding protein and a negative regulator of SOX2 expression. Its activity was controlled by its coiled-coil domain and the C-terminal domain. Conclusion These results suggest that NONO acts as a key regulator of SOX2 transcription through the repression of SOX2 promoter activity in breast cancer cells.

In this work, the dependence of effective Young's modulus on the thickness of suspended graphene was confirmed through a drop impingement method. Large area suspended graphene (LSG) layers with a diameter of up to 400 μm and a nanometer thickness were prepared through transferring chemical vapor deposition grown graphene from copper substrates. 4, 8, and 12-layer LSG samples were found to be crumpled yet defect-free. The mechanical properties of LSG were first studied by observing its interaction with impinging droplets from an ink-jet nozzle. First, the effective Young's modulus was calculated by fitting the instant deformation captured by high speed photography within microseconds. Next, droplets deposited on LSG caused deformation and generated wrinkles and the effective Young's modulus was calculated from the number of wrinkles. The above methods yielded effective Young's modulus values ranging from 0.3 to 3.4 TPa. The results from these methods all indicated that the effective Young's modulus increases with the decreasing thickness or size of suspended graphene layers. Moreover, the crumpled LSG yields higher effective Young's modulus than ideal flat graphene. These comprehensive results from complementary methodologies with precise LSG thickness control down to the nanometer scale provide good evidence to resolve the debate on the thickness dependence of mechanical strength for LSG.

Here, we have studied the nonthermal acceleration of energetic electrons/protons under the near-QED regime by extending the laser intensity beyond 1023 W/cm2 based on a two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulation. The radiation-reaction (RR) effect plays a critical role and brings a quantum stochastic effect to the charged-particle acceleration process. Background electrons in plasma are accelerated in an intense laser field to several GeVs with strong oscillations and thus radiate γ-ray photons. The emitting γ-photons have a broad energy spectrum with maximal energy up to 3 GeV and result in radiation-reaction trapping of the electrons, forming a relativistic plasma bunch in the plasma channel. The accumulation of electrons and protons produces a charge-separation field for the acceleration/deceleration of charged particles. The accelerated electrons have a nonthermal spectrum with a power-law index of 1.5 with a laser intensity 1023 W/cm2 lower than that in the non-QED regime. As the laser intensity further increases over 1024 W/cm2, the power-law index further drops to 1.2. Moreover, the energy spectrum of accelerated protons has a nonthermal distribution with a power-law index of 0.7, which is much lower than that of electrons in the near-QED regime.

Background/aim Proteomics is an approach that can detect differentially expressed proteins between cancerous and non-cancerous tissue samples. Previously, we found that vinculin was predominantly expressed in pancreatic cancerous tissues compared to adjacent non-cancerous tissues by performing proteomic differential display analysis. However, the clinicopathological significance of vinculin in pancreatic cancer has not yet been documented. Materials and methods The GEPIA2 and the Human Protein Atlas databases were used to analyze vinculin expression levels in cancerous tissue samples and investigate whether its expression level is clinically associated with patient survival. Results Vinculin mRNA expression levels were solely increased in pancreatic cancer tissues, and increased expression was inversely related to patient survival. Higher levels of vinculin protein were found in pancreatic cancer tissues. In contrast, faint staining of vinculin was observed throughout the normal pancreatic tissues. Conclusion Vinculin may be an unfavorable prognostic indicator for patients with pancreatic cancer.

AHCC®, a standardized extract of cultured Lentinula edodes mycelia, enhances the therapeutic effects and reduces the adverse effects of chemotherapy. Our previous study reported that treatment with AHCC® downregulated the expression levels of tumor-associated proteins in the gemcitabine-resistant pancreatic cancer cell line, KLM1-R. However, to the best of our knowledge, the role of AHCC® in the inhibition of cell migration remains unexplored. Cortactin (CTTN), an actin nucleation-promoting factor, has been reported to be upregulated and correlated with migration, invasion and metastasis in pancreatic cancer cells. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of AHCC® on cell migration and the protein expression level of CTTN in KLM1-R cells. The Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA2), an online bioinformatics platform, was used to analyze CTTN mRNA expression levels in pancreatic cancer tissues compared with normal pancreatic tissues. CTTN mRNA expression and its association with clinicopathological characteristics were assessed by using the GEPIA2 platform. Next, the effects of AHCC® on KLM1-R cell migration were investigated by in vitro wound-healing assay. The KLM1-R cells were treated with AHCC® at a concentration of 10 mg/ml for 48 h. Western blotting was performed on of cell lysates with anti-CTTN or anti-actin antibodies to assess the protein expression levels of CTTN. Bioinformatics analysis indicated that the mRNA expression level of CTTN increased in pancreatic cancer tissues. The increased mRNA expression levels of CTTN were inversely associated with clinicopathological characteristics, including disease stages and prolonged patient survival times. The administration of 10 mg/ml AHCC® significantly inhibited KLM1-R cells migration compared with controls. The protein expression levels of CTTN were significantly reduced in AHCC®-treated KLM1-R cells, whereas actin expression was not affected. The downregulation of CTTN indicated the anti-metastatic potential of AHCC® in pancreatic cancer cells. Overall, AHCC® may have the potential to be a complementary and alternative therapeutic approach in treating pancreatic cancer.

Background/Aim: Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a rare but very aggressive tumor that is primarily pleural in origin. The 5-year overall survival rate of patients with MPM has not improved despite therapeutic advances. Therefore, biomarker discovery to identify premalignant or early malignant tumors of the mesothelium are crucial. PEA15 is a cytoplasmic protein that is involved in various human malignancies, including MPM. However, the clinicopathological involvement of PEA15 in MPM has not yet been documented. Materials and Methods: The Oncomine database and GEPIA2 platform were used to analyze PEA15 mRNA expression and patient survival in patients with MPM. Results: PEA15 was found to be significantly up-regulated in MPM, and this up-regulation inversely correlated with prolonged patient survival. Further, PEA15 expression was found to be increased in other cancer tissues without affecting overall survival. Conclusion: PEA15 may represent a new potential prognostic biomarker in MPM patients.

Atomically thin graphene is a transparent, highly electrically and thermally conductive, light-weight, and the strongest material. To date, graphene has found applications in many aspects including transport, medicine, electronics, energy, defense, and desalination. We demonstrate another disruptive application of graphene in the field of laser-ion acceleration, in which the unique features of graphene play indispensable role. Laser driven ion sources have been widely investigated for pure science, plasma diagnostics, medical and engineering applications. Recent developments of laser technologies allow us to access radiation regime of laser ion acceleration with relatively thin targets. However, the thinner target is the less durable and can be easily broken by the pedestal or prepulse through impact and heating prior to the main laser arrival. One of the solutions to avoid this is plasma mirror, which is a surface plasma created by the foot of the laser pulse on an optically transparent material working as an effective mirror only for the main laser peak. So far diamond like carbon (DLC) is used to explore the ion acceleration in extremely thin target regime (< 10 nm) with plasma mirrors, and it is necessary to use plasma mirrors even in moderately thin target regime (10-100 nm) to realize energetic ion generation. However, firstly DLC is not 2D material, and therefore, it is very expensive to make it thin and flat. Moreover, graphene is stronger than diamond at extremely thin regime, and much more reasonable for mass-production. Furthermore, installing and operating plasma mirrors at high repetition rate is also costly. Here we show another direct solution using graphene as the thinnest and strongest target ever made. We develop a facile transfer method to fabricate large-area suspended graphene (LSG) as target for laser ion acceleration with precision down to a single atomic layer. Direct irradiation of the LSG targets with an ultra intense laser generates energetic carbons and protons evidently showing the durability of graphene without plasma mirror. This extends the new frontier of science on graphene under extreme electromagnetic field, such as energy frontier and nuclear fusion.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has been affecting Hokkaido, Japan since late February 2020 until present. The aim of this study was to report the relationship between anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody-positive and SARS-CoV-2 PCR-positive cases by analyzing anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies (IgG and total-Ig). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Serum samples were collected from care workers and nurses in two nursing homes and two hospitals which underwent virus outbreak. All people were confirmed to be SARS-CoV-2-positive by RT-qPCR and their sera was analyzed for anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies (IgG and total-Ig). RESULTS: Although 34 out of 43 samples (79.1%) showed enough amount of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, 9 RT-qPCR -positive samples (20.9%) showed absence of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in their sera. CONCLUSION: The results that 20.9% of RT-qPCR-positive samples with SARS-CoV-2 showed absence of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies provides a possibility that the innate immune reaction could eliminate the virus without activating adaptive immune reaction.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is the most common form of pancreatic cancer with an abysmal prognosis rate over the last few decades. Early diagnosis and prevention could effectively combat this malignancy. Therefore, it is crucial to discover potential biomarkers to identify asymptomatic premalignant or early malignant tumors of PDAC. Gene expression analysis is a powerful technique to identify candidate biomarkers involved in disease progression. In the present study, five independent gene expression datasets, including 321 PDAC tissues and 208 adjacent non-cancerous tissue samples, were subjected to statistical and bioinformatics analysis. A total of 20 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in PDAC tissues compared to non-cancerous tissue samples. Gene ontology and pathway enrichment analysis showed that DEGs were mainly enriched in extracellular matrix (ECM), cell adhesion, ECM–receptor interaction, and focal adhesion signalling. The protein–protein interaction network was constructed, and the hub genes were evaluated. Collagen type XII alpha 1 chain (COL12A1), fibronectin 1 (FN1), integrin subunit alpha 2 (ITGA2), laminin subunit beta 3 (LAMB3), laminin subunit gamma 2 (LAMC2), thrombospondin 2 (THBS2), and versican (VCAN) were identified as hub genes. The correlation analysis revealed that identified hub genes were significantly interconnected. Wherein COL12A1, FN1, ITGA2, LAMB3, LAMC2, and THBS2 were significantly associated with PDAC pathological stages. The Kaplan–Meier survival plots revealed that ITGA2, LAMB3, and LAMC2 expression were inversely correlated with a prolonged patient survival period. Furthermore, the Human Protein Atlas database was used to validate the expression and cellular origins of hub genes encoded proteins. The protein expression of hub genes was higher in pancreatic cancer tissue than in normal pancreatic tissue samples, wherein ITGA2, LAMB3, and LAMC2 were exclusively expressed in pancreatic cancer cells. Pancreatic cancer cell-specific expression of these three proteins may play pleiotropic roles in cancer progression. Our results collectively suggest that ITGA2, LAMB3, and LAMC2 could provide deep insights into pancreatic carcinogenesis molecular mechanisms and provide attractive therapeutic targets., peer-reviewed

Wakefield acceleration has been considered as a candidate of the origin of cosmic rays and the electron power-law spectra with an index of −2 and it has been demonstrated experimentally and numerically. In order to further support the universality of wakefield acceleration to address the power-law spectra of cosmic rays, we investigate the nonthermal acceleration of relativistic electrons due to the laser-induced wakefield acceleration with a static external magnetic field using two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulation.The results indicate that the power-law spectra with an index of −2 still remain even in the presence of external magnetic field.

BACKGROUND/AIM We have previously reported that treatment of pancreatic cancer cells with active hexose-correlated compound (AHCC), an extract of a basidiomycete mushroom, decreases the levels of tumor-associated proteins including heat-shock protein 27 (HSP27), heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) and sex-determining region Y-box 2 (SOX2). The transmembrane glycoprotein, CUB domain-containing protein 1 (CDCP1) has been reported to be up-regulated in various cancers, and be associated with invasion and metastasis. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of AHCC on the expression of CDCP1 in KLM1-R cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS Gemcitabine-resistant pancreatic cancer cells (KLM1-R) were treated with AHCC (10 mg/ml) for 48 h. Western blot analysis of cell extracts with anti-CDCP1 or anti-actin antibodies was performed to assess the expression of CDCP1. RESULTS Expression of CDCP1 was reduced by AHCC treatment of KLM1-R cells, whereas expression of actin was not affected. The sirtuins (SIRTs) family proteins are class III histone deacetylases (HDACs) and comprise seven members (SIRT1–7). They are widely expressed in normal tissues and are involved in several biological processes, including cancers. SIRTs play fundamental roles in carcinogenesis by mainly participating in cancer cell viability, apoptosis, invasion, and metastasis. A disequilibrium of SIRTs expression was previously documented in oral cancer. SIRT1 and SIRT3 have been the most extensively studied and are considered to be promising strategies against this cancer. There are, however, conflicting results regarding the association between SIRT1 and SIRT3. These SIRTs are known to suppress or promote oral cancer depending on their cellular content or type. In this report, we will describe the fundamental roles of SIRT1 and SIRT3 in oral carcinogenesis and provide critical discussion of their dual roles, tumor suppression, and tumor promotion.

Thanks to a rapid progress of high-power lasers since the birth of laser by T. H. Maiman in 1960, intense lasers have been developed mainly for studying the scientific feasibility of laser fusion. Inertial confinement fusion with an intense laser has attracted attention as a new future energy source after two oil crises in the 1970s and 1980s. From the beginning, the most challenging physics is known to be the hydrodynamic instability to realize the spherical implosion to achieve more than 1000 times the solid density. Many studies have been performed theoretically and experimentally on the hydrodynamic instability and resultant turbulent mixing of compressible fluids. During such activities in the laboratory, the explosion of supernova SN1987A was observed in the sky on 23 February 1987. The X-ray satellites have revealed that the hydrodynamic instability is a key issue to understand the physics of supernova explosion. After collaboration between laser plasma researchers and astrophysicists, the laboratory astrophysics with intense lasers was proposed and promoted around the end of the 1990s. The original subject was mainly related to hydrodynamic instabilities. However, after two decades of laboratory astrophysics research, we can now find a diversity of research topics. It has been demonstrated theoretically and experimentally that a variety of nonlinear physics of collisionless plasmas can be studied in laser ablation plasmas in the last decade. In the present paper, we shed light on the recent 10 topics studied intensively in laboratory experiments. A brief review is given by citing recent papers. Then, modeling cosmic-ray acceleration with lasers is reviewed in a following session as a special topic to be the future main topic in laboratory astrophysics research.

In an experiment performed with a high-intensity and high-energy laser system, $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-particle production in proton-boron reaction by using a laser-driven proton beam was measured. $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ particles were observed from the front and also from the rear side, even after a 2-mm-thick boron target. The data obtained in this experiment have been analyzed using a sequence of numerical simulations. The simulations clarify the mechanisms of $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-particle production and transport through the boron targets. $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-particle energies observed in the experiment and in the simulation reach 10--20 MeV through energy transfer from 20--30 MeV energy incident protons. Despite the lower cross sections for protons with energy above the sub-MeV resonances in the proton-boron reactions, ${10}^{8}$--${10}^{9}\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\alpha}$ particles per steradian have been detected.

Although epidemiological studies have shown a relationship between periodontal disease and pancreatic cancer, the molecular mechanisms involved remain unclear. In this study, the effects of systemic administration of Porphyromonas gingivalis lipopolysaccharide (PG-LPS) on gene expression were comprehensively explored in mouse pancreas that did not demonstrate any signs of inflammation. PG-LPS was prepared in physiological saline and intraperitoneally administered to male mice at a concentration of 5 mg/kg every 3 days for 1 month. After extracting total RNA from the excised mice pancreas, a comprehensive DNA microarray analysis of gene expression was performed. Tissue specimens were also subjected to hematoxylin&ndash, eosin staining and immunohistochemistry using anti-regenerating islet-derived 3A and G (Reg3A/G) antibody. ImageJ software was used to quantify the area of Reg3A/G positive cells in pancreatic islets by binarizing image date followed by area extraction. The results were compared using Mann&ndash, Whitney U test. Data are presented as mean &plusmn, standard deviation (SD) with p &lt, 0.05 considered as significant. Reg3G, a gene related to pancreatic cancer, was one of the 10 genes with the highest levels of expression in the pancreas stimulated with PG-LPS. The comprehensive analysis revealed a 73-fold increase in Reg3G expression level in the PG-LPS group when compared with the control group, in addition, the expression level of Reg3A was increased by 11-fold in the PG-LPS group. Image analysis showed that the ratio of Reg3A/G positive cells was higher in the PG-LPS group than the control. Immunostaining showed the presence of Reg3A/G-positive cells in the alpha-cell equivalent areas around the islets of Langerhans in the PG-LPS group. These results support the notion that periodontal disease may be a risk factor for pancreatic cancer.

We present preliminary results on generation of energetic α-particles driven by lasers. The experiment was performed at the Institute of Laser Engineering in Osaka using the short-pulse, high-intensity, high-energy, PW-class laser. The laser pulse was focused onto a thin plastic foil (pitcher) to generate a proton beam by the well-known TNSA mechanism which, in turn, was impinging onto a boron-nitride (BN) target (catcher) to generated alpha-particles as a result of proton-boron nuclear fusion events. Our results demonstrate generation of α-particles with energies in the range 8–10 MeV and with a flux around 5 × 10^9 sr^−1.

Induced Compton scattering (ICS) is a nonlinear interaction between intense electromagnetic radiation and a rarefied plasma. Although the magnetosphere of pulsars is a potential site at which ICS occurs in nature, ICS signatures have not been discovered so far. One of the reasons for the non-detection of ICS signatures is that we still do not possess a concrete understanding of such nonlinear plasma interactions because of their nonlinear nature and the lack of experimental confirmations. Here, we propose a possible approach to understand ICS experimentally in laboratories, specifically, with the use of the up-to-date short-pulse lasers. We find that the scattered light of ICS has characteristic signatures in its spectrum. The signatures will be observed in some current laser facilities. The characteristic spectrum is quantitatively predictable and we can diagnose the properties of the scattering plasma from the signatures.
