森林および木材に関する多様な教育活動が行われているが, それらを俯瞰する教育内容の整理は未だに十分とはいえない。そこで本研究では, 森林教育の全体像を明らかにするために, 文献調査と森林体験活動の実態調査を行い, 森林教育が包括する内容の整理, 分類を行った。その結果, 森林教育の内容は4要素8項目に及ぶものであることが確認された。すなわち, 1) 森林資源: (a) 資源利用 (木工, 林産物利用など), (b) 森林管理 (林業作業など), 2) 自然環境: (c) 森林環境 (森林の働きの学習など), (d) 生態系 (自然観察など), 3) ふれあい: (e) 保健休養 (森林浴など), (f) 野外活動 (運動, 芸術的活動など), 4) 地域文化: (g) 地域環境, (h) 暮らしである。これらの要素には, 実態調査から得られた多様な森林体験活動の内容をあてはめることができた。森林教育には異なる内容の要素が含まれていたが, それぞれの要素の明確な区分は難しく, 重複した関係がみられた。森林教育に多様な内容が含まれる背景には, 森林がもつ多面的な機能と, 社会からの森林へ多様な期待とが考えられた。森林教育への今後の課題として, 教育目的の整理, 体系化と, 実施体制の確立が挙げられた。

We analyzed data from 28 long-term experimental monitoring plots installed in Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica D. Don) plantations in northeastern Japan to examine how site productivity and thinning practices relate to culmination in stand growth. Site productivity and thinning practices in the plots were evaluated by site index (dominant tree height at 40-years old) and by cumulative thinning rate (cumulative thinning volume divided by cumulative gross production during the entire period of measurement). Culmination of stand growth was evaluated by culmination age of the mean annual increment (MAI) and its maximum value (Max MAI). Max MAI for the mean annual gross increment (MAIgross) and mean annual net increment (MAInet) increased with increasing site index, but did not change with cumulative thinning rate. Culmination age for MAIgross decreased with increasing site index, but did not change with cumulative thinning rate. Culmination age for MAInet decreased with increasing site index. Additionally, culmination age for MAInet increased with increasing cumulative thinning rate in sites with a high site index (>19.3 m) but not in those with a low site index (

In order to make the space design of a comfortable bathing in the forest atmosphere (BIFA), it is important to investigate the effect to a human body first and then the characters of many physical factors constituting the forest space. In this paper we research and analyze physical factors constituting the elements of BIFA, especially light intensity and thermal effect. To make clear the effect of BIFA, this experiment was done in the forest [Seiwa Residents' Woodland] and the city [Chiba City] respectively at the same time. The subjects of this experiment are twelve, and the results were recorded by rating to some evaluation scales, and data are compared from the viewpoint of comfortableness. From this result, we can clearly notice psychological and physiological effects at the case of forest. In the mountainside of a village in summer under the fine sky, the values of the light intensity were subjectively seemed to be the same as in the city though the real intensity was 1/22 of the city. Moreover, at the case of thermal effect, we surely understand that it is cooler and more comfortable in the forest than in the city from the resulting data through the whole day.

First, in this paper, achievements that have been performed in the fields of Regional Analysis and Policy in Japan since the organization of Japan Section of RSA in 1962 are reviwed briefly, together with the names of authors which deserve special mention.Then some comments are made in order to stimulate progress of this science and make it more realistic and fruitful. First of all, the further promotion of the interdisciplinary cooperation for Regional Analysis is desired earnestly in the light of the fact that this is a Zwischengebiet newly established. Second, the normative and policy-oriented character of this science is emphasized. Regional Science should be fruit-bearing in the real world. Third, Regional Analysis and Planning should be carried on in a more dynamic setting. The failure of plans which were made in this country in the past was mainly due to their static ways of thought and model-building. Last, when we make a Regional Plan, we should be careful not to accept status quo as status quo. Status quo is never Data given. Nor is the regional plan a servant of the conventional policy. We should always keep in mind that we could improve rather drastically the welfare situation in the country through drawing up the more active and progressive regional plan.

Japan is a small country: an important factor when discussing its regional planning. Japan is 370,000kin ~, or almost the size of Italy, Finland or Norway, or about one half of Texas. In this small land there are some 50 prefectures and 600 cities. I shall discuss mainly nationwide regional planning, although regional planning efforts exist as well in small prefectures, cities, and five or six prefectures as a group. The Japanese economy has experienced rapid growth since the Meiji Restoration of 1868. The average real rate of economic growth between 1860 and 1913 is estimated to have been 4.1% per year, and 4.5% between 1913 and 1938.1 The growth rate of the period after World War II has been phenomenal, even allowing for the great reduction of industrial productive capacity due to the war. 2
