Objective: To determine the knowledge, opinions, experiences and trends regarding herbal treatment, traditional medicine and other complementary and alternative medicine. Methods: Two cross-sectional studies were conducted at Meram Faculty of Medicine Hospital, Konya, Turkey, in 2012 and 2018, comprising subjects of either gender aged >18 years. Data was collected using a survey form prepared in the light of relevant literature. Data was summarised and compared between the two studies. Objective: In order to provide a quality health service, the awareness of traditional practices of healthcare providers, especially nurses, is as important as the understanding of the illnesses and health perception of those receiving care and their approaches to contemporary and traditional practices, because nurses' own cultural values and beliefs can affect their decisions and attitudes toward the patients. . Methods: This descriptive study was performed with female nurses with children and working in a university hospital. The sample was not determined by using any special method of selection. The study was completed with the participation of 316 nurses who volunteered to participate in the study. The participation rate was 82%. Data were collected from October 2018 to April 2019 by using a survey form developed by the researchers based on the literature Results: Of the nurses, 91.5% thought traditional practices were important but 8.5% thought that such practices were unimportant to prevent/resolve health-related problems. The most common first three practices that the nurses implemented to prevent puerperal fever included fortieth-day baths (44.3%), praying (37.3%), and not staying home alone (28.2%). The COVID-19 pandemic has brought countries’ health services into sharp focus. It was drawn to our group’s attention that healthcare workers (HCWs) had a lower mortality rate against higher COVID-19 incidence compared to the general population in Turkey. Since risk of exposure to tuberculosis bacillus among healthcare workers are higher than the population, we aimed to investigate if there is a relationship between BCG and Mycobacterium tuberculosis exposure history with COVID-19 severity in infected HCWs. This study was conducted with 465 infected HCWs from thirty-three hospitals to assess the relationship between COVID-19 severity (according to their hospitalization status and the presence of radiological pneumonia) and BCG and Mycobacterium tuberculosis exposure history. HCWs who required hospital admission had significantly higher rates of chronic diseases, radiological pneumonia, and longer working hours in the clinics. Higher rates of history of contact and care to tuberculosis patients, history of tuberculosis, and BCG vaccine were observed in hospitalized HCWs. HCWs who had radiological pneumonia had a significantly increased ratio of history of care to tuberculosis patients and a higher family history of tuberculosis. The findings from our study suggest that the lower mortality rate despite the more severe disease course seen in infected HCWs might be due to frequent exposure to tuberculosis bacillus and the mortality-reducing effects of the BCG vaccine.

İstatistiksel olarak p, Objective: This study aimed to determine the views and practices of a medical faculty nurses about violence against women. Methods: The research is descriptive. It was conducted with 392 nurses working in a medical faculty in Konya. A 36-question data collection form was used in the study. Numbers and percentages were used to summarize the research data, and Chi-square (χ2) test was used to determine the relationships between categorical data.Results: More than a half of participants (60.2%) noted their need for an education about how to manage problems of a violence victim and approximately one third (30.6%) specified a structured, professional education need about violence. Although 44.1% reported an suspicion of violence they experienced, interestingly, just one of five (20.9%) answered the questions asking the probable reasons of violence and low education level of violent was at the top of answers (n=31; 7.9%). Bruise, swelling, and wounds on the body (66.8%) and unexplained psychological complaints of women (52.8%) were the main cues for violence suspicion for participants. Objective Isoniazid for 6 to 9 months is the most widely used form of tuberculosis (TB) preventive treatment. We aimed to assess the adverse effects of isoniazid by using the serum levels of aspartate transaminase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT), and uric acid (SUA) in children and adolescents receiving long-term isoniazid for latent TB infection. Methods The study included children ≤18 years of age who underwent TB preventive treatment with isoniazid (IPT) between 2015 and 2019 at a university hospital. Serum transaminase, SUA, urea, and creatinine levels of patients were measured before the initiation of IPT, 15th day, and once a month during treatment. Patients with ALT, AST, or SUA results above cut-off levels during treatment were evaluated. The final values in follow-up were included in the data analysis. Results A total of 141 children who underwent IPT were included. In total, 70 children had family members with confirmed TB disease, and 71 children had a positive tuberculin skin test. SUA increased above cut-off values in 16 children (11.3%), and half of them had uric acid levels over 7 mg/dL. The median duration of the development of hyperuricemia was 4.0 months. ALT or AST increased above cut-off values in 23 children (16.3%). ALT was above cut-off values in seven patients, AST was high in 20 patients. The median duration to the development of AST and/or ALT levels above cut-off was 4.0 months. Two patients had hepatotoxic transaminase levels. Three patients had both elevated transaminases and SUA levels. Conclusion Isoniazid may also cause hyperuricemia besides elevation in transaminases in children.

Aim: The training and practices taken by the cleaning staff and the caregivers working at the hospital about prevention of nosocomial infections, approach to medical waste and hand hygiene are important in terms of both patient and staff health. New Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) was identified on January 13, 2020, as a result of first researches conducted in patients who developed similar respiratory symptoms in Wuhan Province, China at the end of December 2019. Although the hospitals function mainly on treatment in the epidemic, which is spreading in our country as in the rest of the world, screening and preventive measures have to gain momentum during the epidemic process, especially for the staff. For this reason, sharing the occupational health and safety policies carried out in hospitals, will contribute the upcoming period. The aim of this article is to report the efforts to protect the health of both hospital staff and patients during the Covid-19 pandemic in a tertiary hospital. We think that this will set an example for different pandemic processes that may be experienced.

Pediatristlerin cocukluk cagi dermatozlarini tanimasi ve gereginde tani, tedavi icin uygun dermatolojik konsultasyon istemesi onemlidir. Amac: Literaturde Pediatri Anabilim Dali'ndan talep edilen dermatoloji konsultasyonlari hakkinda birkac calisma bulunmaktadir. Bu calismada, Cocuk Sagligi ve Hastaliklari Anabilim Dali'ndan Dermatoloji Anabilim Dali'na basvuran hastalarin klinik ozellikleri, on tani ve dermatolojik tanilarinin degerlendirilmesi ve klinikler arasindaki farkli yaklasimlarin saptanmasi amaclanmistir. Yontemler: 1 Eylul 2016- 1 Eylul 2017 tarihleri arasinda hastanemiz cocuk sagligi ve hastaliklari birimlerinden istenen dermatoloji konsultasyon olgulari retrospektif olarak listelenerek degerlendirildi. BACKGROUND This study compared the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors associated with organ donation and transplantation among patients undergoing dialysis versus those visiting family health centers (FHCs). MATERIAL AND METHODS This cross-sectional study included patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment at the Meram Medical Faculty and those visiting FHCs in Meram district for other reasons. RESULTS The study participants were 128 individuals visiting FHCs and 111 patients undergoing dialysis. Of these, 169 individuals (70.7%) correctly answered the question "What is brain death?" The knowledge level in the FHC group was higher than that in the dialysis group. Less than half of the individuals indicated willingness to donate an organ. Furthermore, subjects in the dialysis group were more likely than those in the FHC group to answered "no" to the question "Would you be willing to donate an organ to someone of a different religion?" CONCLUSIONS Positive attitude towards organ transplantation and donation does not necessarily reflect positive behavior these 2 groups.

Aim In the literature, there are no data examining the association with lichen planus with acanthosis nigricans and acrochordon, which are skin findings of metabolic syndrome (MS). Materials A total of 108 lichen planus (LP) patients, age and sex-matched 109 controls, 217 patients in total were prospectively included in the study. Results Metabolic Syndrome was found in 55 (50.9%) of 108 patients with lichen planus and 36.7% in the control group. The frequency of MS in the lichen planus group was found to be significantly higher than that in the control group (P = .03). The incidence of acanthosis nigricans (AN) was statistically higher in the LP group (P = .009). In addition, while 38 of 47 AN patients in the LP group had MS, 17 of 61 patients without AN had MS, and the presence of MS was found significantly higher in LP patients with AN (p˂0.001). The incidence of acrochordon was statistically higher in the LP group (P = .03). In addition, while 43 of 62 patients with acrochordon in the LP group had MS, 12 of 46 patients without acrochordon had MS, and the presence of MS was found significantly higher in patients with LP with acrochordon (P ˂ .001). Conclusion In our study, it was found that skin findings such as AN and acrochordon increased in patients with lichen planus. This increase was also observed in lichen planus patients with metabolic syndrome. Therefore, the association of acanthosis nigricans and acrochordon may be a predictive of metabolic syndrome in patients with lichen planus admitted to the dermatology outpatient clinic.

The aim of this study was to analyse the knowledge and attitudes about smoking in young people between 16-20 years of age, who were both working and attending the Vocational Education Centre.This study was conducted with high school students at the Vocational Education Centre. The socio-demographic questionnaire and the Fagerström Test of Nicotine Dependence (FTND) were applied to the students using a face-to-face interview technique. Secondly, interactive educations on smoking-free life and smoking-related diseases were given. At last, CO (carbon monoxide) levels and respiratory functions were evaluated.Of the students 92.9% were males, 37.4% were 16 years, 35.8% were 17 years and 26.9% were 18-20 years old. Among 46.9% of smokers, 75.8% started smoking before 15 years of age, 86.1% were living with smokers. While 70.5% of smokers smoked more than 10 cigarettes daily, 61.3% smoked their first cigarette in the first half hour after waking up. Of the smokers, 28.8% were highly dependent, 13.0% were very highly dependent. CO levels were significantly higher in those who smoked in the workplace, who smoked mostly in the morning time, and those who started smoking at 7 years of age and younger (p0.05). FEV1, FVC, FEF25-75 values of morning smokers were significantly lower (p0.05).Unfortunately, the first smoking age was very low, the first cigarette of the day was lit in a short time after waking up, and family/friend's attitudes and behaviours were encouraging in this age group. More attention should be paid to this issue and especially new preventive projects should be implemented to protect young people from smoking.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the skin problems and dermatological life quality of the health care workers (HCWs) due to personal protection equipment (PPE) use, who are at high risk for Covid‐19 infection. A questionnaire about HCWs' PPE use, their skin symptoms, and prevention, management methods and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) was fulfilled. In this study, it was aimed to determine the preferences of drinking water for the people aged 18 years and old in Meram district. This cross-sectional study is conducted in Konya province Meram district between dates April 1-June 1, 2016. Sample size is calculated as 810 people by G-Power 3.1.9.2 sample volume calculation program. A questionnaire prepared by the researcher was given to the participants. Questionnaires were giving to the participants during face-to-face interview. Analyzes of the data were studied in the IBM SPSS 24.0 program on the computer. 514 women (63.5%) and 296 men (36.5%) participated in the study. Daily water consumption average is founded as 1.40 ± 0.81 L. It is found that %9,5 (77) of the participants choose water purifier equipment, %19,4 of the participants (157) choose tap water, %22,0 of participants choose packaged water, %49,1 of participants choose fresh water fountain as drinking water. It is determined that 653 participants (80.6%) who did not prefer tap water didn’t prefer it because of these factors: from the taste and odor problem, from limy water, were thought water was dirty, because of the habit, of them was disturbed by chlorinated water. Objective:As in all areas of medicine, the number of patients using traditional and complementary medicine (TCM) methods in dermatology are increasing day by day. The aim of this study was to determine the TCM using experiences in patients who admitted to the dermatology outpatient clinic.Methods:The demographic characteristics of the 378 volunteering patients and their datas obtained by applying a questionnaire developed by the researchers and consisting of 25 multiple-choice/open-ended questions, were analyzed statistically.Results:91 (24.6%) of the participants stated that they used at least one TCM practice for their previous or present skin disease. TCM practices were most commonly used for acne / acneiform disorders (n=24, 26.4%). The most common method was using olive oil riding on the scalp (n=20, 22.2%). 19 (24.4%) of those using any TCM method stated that they had benefited from the method they applied and 40 (42.9%) were recommending TCM use to others. Bu çalışmada amaç dermatoloji polikliniğine başvuran hastalarda GETAT yöntemi kullanımını ve tecrübelerini saptamaktır.Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmada dermatoloji polikliniğine herhangi bir cilt rahatsızlığı nedeniyle başvuran 378 olgu rastgele alınarak 25 çoktanseçmeli açık uçlu sorudan oluşan anket uygulanarak elde edilen sonuçlar istatistiksel olarak analiz edildi.Bulgular: Katılımcıların 91 (24.6%)'i geçmiş veya şimdiki cilt hastalığına yönelik en az bir GETAT uygulaması kullandığını belirtti. Olguların GETAT uygulamalarına en çok başvurduğu olgu grubu akne/akneiform bozukluklar olarak (n=24, 26.4%) belirlendi. Olguların en sık başvurduğu yöntem saçlı deriye zeytinyağı sürme (n=20, 22.2%) idi. Herhangi bir GETAT yöntemi kullananlardan 19 (24.4%)'u uyguladıkları yöntemden fayda gördüğünü belirtmekteyken 40 (42.9%)’ı ise kullandığı GETAT yöntemini başkalarına da önermekteydi.Sonuç: Hastalar GETAT yöntemleri ile GETAT kullanımı sonrasındaki olası etki ve yan etkiler açısından bilgilendirilmeli, dermatologlar dabu konuda dikkatli olmalıdır

Amac: Ulkemizde tutunle mucadele konusunda kapsamli olarak bircok plan ve program yurutulmekte, ayni zamanda il tutun kontrol kurullari tarafindan tutun denetimleri duzenli olarak yapilmaktadir. Ancak denetimleri yapan ekipler cesitli sorunlarla karsilasmakta olup, bu durum denetimlerin etkinligini ve surekliligini azaltmaktadir. Bu calisma ile dumansiz hava sahasi denetimi yapan ekiplerin karsilastiklari sorunlarin belirlenmesi amaclanmistir. Materyal ve Metot: Kesitsel tipte olan bu calismaya, Konya ili Meram ilcesinde son bir yil icerisinde dumansiz hava sahasi denetimi yapan ve calismaya katilmayi kabul eden Toplum Sagligi Merkezi, Ilce Emniyet Mudurlugu ve Belediye Zabitasi calisanlari dahil edildi. Katilimcilara literatur taranarak ve ilgili mevzuat incelenerek arastirmacilar tarafindan hazirlanan veri toplama formu uygulandi. Elde edilen verilerin analizi bilgisayarda istatistik paket programi kullanilarak gerceklestirildi. Bulgular: Arastirmaya katilanlarin %40,0’i Emniyet Mudurlugu, %35,0’i Belediye Baskanligi, kalan %25,0’i ise Toplum Sagligi Merkezi’nde calismaktaydi. Son bir yil icinde denetim ekibinin yaptigi denetim sayisi ortancasi 100 (2–2000) idi. Toplum Sagligi Merkezi’nde calisan personelin Emniyet ve Belediye ekiplerinden daha fazla denetim yaptigi tespit edildi. Denetimler esnasinda herhangi bir sorunla karsilastigini ifade eden katilimcilarin orani %49,0’du. En cok sorunla karsilasan grubun Toplum Sagligi Merkezi calisanlari oldugu saptandi. Tutun denetimi yapan katilimcilarin en cok karsilastigi uc sorun sirasiyla; sozel saldiri (%44,9), tehdit edilme (%22,4) ve fiziksel saldiri (%14,3) olarak tespit edildi. Sonuc: Is yukunun buyuk cogunlugunu ustlenen ve ayni zamanda daha cok sorunla karsilastigi dusunulen Toplum Sagligi Merkezi ekiplerine tutun denetimleri esnasinda polis veya jandarma ekiplerinin eslik etmesi faydali olacaktir.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the in-service training topics which are demanded by health professionals without doctors working in primary health care agencies and factors related in-service training topics. Material and Methods: The study was carried out between December 2014 and February 2015 in city center of Konya. Aim: The first COVID-19 case in Turkey was detected on March 11, 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic process. Epidemiologicalstudies are needed to be prepared for other outbreaks and to be effective in the disease management process. Based on this reason,in this study it was aimed to determine the epidemiological characteristics of Covid 19 possible and definite cases who applied tothe university hospital during the pandemic process.Materials and Methods: This retrospective epidemiological study was carried out by analyzing the data of Covid 19 possible anddefinite cases, who applied to the university hospital operating as a pandemic hospital between 11 March / 01 June 2020. The datawere summarized with descriptive statistics, tables and graphs.Results: Of the 1,383 patients, who applied with the suspicion of COVID-19, 55.5% were men and 84.5% were adults. The medianage of children is 4.0 (1.5-10) years old; adults were 52.0 (36.0-67.0) years old. The median time between the outset of complaintsand the date of admission to the hospital was 2 (1-3) days. 87.4% of adults and 87.9% of children had symptoms that supportedCOVID-19 infection. Among cases 7.8% were health care workers. The median age of the fatal cases was 71 (64-82) years old, 79.5%were male, 77.7% were retired. The most common comorbide diseases in these cases were hypertension (28.2%) and malignancy(28.2%). The case fatality rate was found as 2.8% in all patients and 48.4% in patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit.Conclusions: As a result, Covid-19 affects all age groups. Hypertension and malignancy were the most common additional diseasesin fatal cases. The risk of illness is higher in healthcare workers who have direct contact with the patients. According to ourobservations, preventive measures, rapid diagnosis and supportive treatment are valuable.

WOS: 000485672700008, PubMed: 31489857, Aim: This study aimed to determine the sleeping habits and sleeping periods of kindergarten children, in order to analyze the problems related to sleep hygiene and determine the underlying factors. Methods: The sample size of this cross-sectional study consisted of 390 children. A questionnaire filled in by the parents was used as the data collection tool. The data were analyzed with appropriate statistical tests. Results: According to the mothers, 77.2% of the children had their own room at home. Thirty nine percent of children slept with the full light on in their room, 50.3% slept with night light on in their room, 12.3% slept with the radio/television on in their room. Infant sleep practices found in this study are swaddling (18.5%), wrapping of the infant's arms (21.0%), and rocking (58.7%). Conclusions: In terms of sleep hygiene, the vast majority of the children slept in a bright environment, and there were electronic appliances in the room. Common infant-transition-to-sleep practices observed were wrapping their arms and swaddling them. In our point of view, awareness training for parents about the subject will support sleep hygiene practices.

AMAÇ: Bu çalışmada, bir Tıp Fakültesi Hastanesinde çalışan sağlık personelinin daha önce geçirdiği ‘iş kazası’ ve ‘ramak kala’ olayları belirlemek ve iş sağlığı-güvenliği çalışmalarına önlenebilirlik açısından destek sağlamak amaçlandı.GEREÇ VE YÖNTEM: Tanımlayıcı tipteki çalışma 2014 yılında bir Tıp Fakültesi Hastanesinde Kalite Yönetim Birimi ile birlikte yürütüldü. Veri toplama aracı olarak 22 soruluk bir anket kullanıldı. Anket öncesi ‘iş kazası’ ve ‘ramak kala olay’ tanımları, ankete katılmayı kabul eden çalışanlara açıklandı ve anketi doldurmaları istendi. Anlamlılık için sınır değer p, OBJECTIVE: In this study, it was aimed to determine previous ‘occupational accidents’ and ‘near miss events’ experienced by health care personel working in a Medical School Hospital, and to provide support for occupational health and safety studies in terms of preventability.MATERIAL AND METHODS: This descriptive study was conducted with the Quality Management Department of a Medical School Hospital in 2014. A 22-item questionnaire was used as the data collection tool. Before applying the questionnaire definitions of ‘occupational accident’ and ‘near miss event’ were explained to the personel who accepted to participate, and then they were asked to fill the questionnaire form. The data were analyzed using appropriate statistical tests. P values less then 0.05 were considered to be statistically significant.RESULTS: Of total 1149 hospital workers who were participated to the study, 29.1% had suffered at least one time sharp object injury, and 46.6% had experienced ‘near miss event’ of sharp object injury. In participants who were experienced ‘near miss events’ to sharp object injury during treatment and/or during closing the needle tip, percentage of exposure to ‘near miss events’ was the first rank with 31.0%. The workers, who stated that they experienced occupational accidents, reported that accidents have been occurred at most between 12.00 –17.00 o’clock. 45.4% of the participants stated that they have received training on occupational health and employee health.CONCLUSIONS: Nearly half of the workers had received a training related to the occupational safety. It is not less for workers to experience an sharp object injury or ‘near miss event’ of sharp object injury. We believe that, regular notification of occupational accidents and near miss events can be a basis for the measures that should be taken, and also can be effective in reduction of occupational accidents.

WOS: 000370271100040, PubMed: 27511518, Background/aim: The purpose of the present study was to identify traditional practices and the extent to which they are practiced by mothers during pregnancy, birth, the postpartum period, and newborn care. Materials and methods: This study was conducted in the city center of Konya (Turkey). Data were collected through questionnaires completed by volunteers. The research sample comprised 450 mothers, all of whom had given birth to at least one live baby. The forms were completed during face-to-face interviews. Results: Some traditional pregnancy practices were followed by 70.7% of the participants. Of the women who performed these practices, 57.4% consciously chose foods they craved, tried not to take nutrients believed to be unsuitable in pregnancy, and took nutrients believed to influence the sex of the baby; 85.6% reported breastfeeding their babies in the first 4 h after birth and 9.7% waited for the first call to prayer (azan) to start breastfeeding. Additionally, 72.2% of the mothers reported performing kirklama (making the forties), a ceremony performed to celebrate the 40th day after a baby's birth. Conclusion: Most of the women who participated in the study still followed some traditional practices and rituals during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Therefore, health care professionals should provide health education that accounts for the women's cultural and social environment.

Amaç: Günümüzde yaşlılık dönemi sadece kronolojik yaş olarak kabul edilmekle kalmayıp, aynı zamanda yaşlılık çağında sağlıklı yaşlanmanın ve yaşam kalitesinin önemi vurgulanmaktadır. Çalışmada, bir kamu hastanesine başvuran 65 yaş ve üzeri kişilerin sağlıkla ilgili yaşam kalitesi durumu ve yaşam kalitesini etkileyebilecek faktörlerin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışma, Konya’da bir kamu hastanesine başvuran ve çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden 65 yaş ve üstü bireylerle yapıldı. Veri toplanmasında, sosyodemografik özellikleri ve hekim tanılı kronik hastalıklarının varlığını sorgulayan bir anket ile Yaşam Kalitesi Kısa Form-36 ölçeği kullanıldı. Veriler, uygun istatistiksel testlerle analiz edildi. Bulgular: Katılımcıların % 78,3’ü 65-74 yaş grubunda olup; % 54,0’ının kronik hastalığı, %7,2’sinin engeli vardı. Yaşlılıkla ilgili mutsuz eden bir olay varlığını belirten % 27,0 katılımcı olurken; katılımcıların % 42,2’sinin uyku problemi vardı. Çalışma grubunun sosyal fonksiyonellik alt boyut puan ortalaması 48,52 ± 20,48, mental-ruh sağlığı 47,15 ± 15,33, genel sağlık alanındaki ortalama puanı 46,56 ± 18,06 idi. In study, it was aimed to evaluate the health-related quality of life status and the factors that could affect the quality of life of people aged 65 years or older who applied to a public hospital. Material and Method: The study was conducted with individuals aged 65 years or older who applied to a public hospital in Konya and agreed to participate in the study. In the data collection was used with the Life Quality Short Form-36 scale and a questionnaire investigating the sociodemographic characteristics and the presence of chronic diseases diagnosed by physicians.The data analyzed with appropriate statistical tests. Results: Seventy eight percent of the participants were in the 65-74 age group; 54,0% had a chronic illness, and 7,2% had a physical disability. Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the risk factors of maternal mortality in Konya province, as well as the preventability of deaths in cases where the central and local commissions differed in their decisions. Material and Methods: Maternal mortality between 2009 and 2014 in the Konya province was screened for the cases, where the central and local Maternal Mortality Investigation Commissions gave different decisions. These differences pertain to whether the deaths were ‘preventable’ or ‘not-preventable’, differences in the first, second and third delay models, and indirect, direct and incidental deaths. The data were evaluated electronically along with a descriptive statistical analysis, differences in the decisions and compliance in the mortality rates were evaluated. Results: The median age of the deceased mothers was 28 (21–44) years and 83.3% of the mothers had at least one mortality risk factor. While the overall maternal mortality rate was 36.7% within the first 48 h after birth, the rates were highest within the first 48 h after birth (26.7%) and between the 1st and 42nd day after birth (26.7%) in indifferently assessed cases. The cause in 30% of all deaths and 33.3% of deaths with differential assessments was postpartum hemorrhage, as per the results of central Maternal Mortality Investigation Commissions. The decisions of the central and local commissions differed in terms of preventability, delay models or death classification in 50% of the deaths. Taken together, the compliance between central and local decisions was not precise in investigating maternal mortality. Conclusion: The first 48 h after birth and the postpartum period are particularly critical. The causes of death, particularly postpartum hemorrhage, should be thoroughly investigated. We recommend periodic re-evaluations of cases where different decisions were made, in order to lower the rate of preventable maternal mortality. Copyright © 2018 by Türkiye Klinikleri.

Introduction:To evaluate the personality and temperament traits in patients with chronic hepatitis B in comparison to healthy subjects and to determine whether there is a relation between personality trait and level of anxiety or depression.Material and Methods:This was a case-control study in which 67 patients who had been under follow-up with diagnosis of chronic hepatitis B and 103 aged-matched healthy subjects were included. Study participants were asked to complete three self-report questionnaires— Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) to define personality traits, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) to evaluate presence and severity of depression and anxiety.Results:Total and sub-scale scores of five out of seven dimensions of TCI—reward dependence, persistence, self-directedness, cooperativeness, and self-transcence—were significantly higher in Group 1 than Group 2. Total BDI and BAI scores were significantly higher in Group 1 than Group 2 .Significantly more patients had a BDI score of 17 or over in Group 1 than Group 2. There was no significant correlation between total scores of TCI dimensions and total BAI or BDI scores except weak correlations between harm avoidance or self-directedness and total BAI or BDI scores.Conclusions:In terms of personality trait, patients with chronic hepatitis B exhibit higher reward dependence, persistence, self-directedness, cooperativeness, and self-transcendence from healthy population. The personality traits of patients should be considered during the management of hepatitis B in order to optimize treatment outcome and to prevent development of new mental health problems during the course of the disease.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to determine the increase in psychosomatic complaints during the COVID-19 pandemic and to identify the factors associated with psychosomatic complaints. Method: Five-hundred and thirty-three participants were included in the study. The participants completed the following self-reported scales: Personal Information Form, Perceived COVID-19 Threat Form, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale, Biological Rhythms Interview of Assessment and Patient Health Questionnaire-15 (PHQ-15). The data were gathered online. The participants filled PHQ-15 scale twice. In the one interrogation, they were asked to fill the scale according to the current time, and in the other interrogation, they were asked to retrospectively report their status before the COVID-19 outbreak started. Results: The psychosomatic symptom levels of the participants increased (M = 9.08, SD = 5.98) after the COVID-19 outbreak compared to before. The first and second PHQ scores were both positively related to perceived COVID-19 threat, intolerance of uncertainty and biological rhythms. However, the correlation coefficients of the second PHQ scores (after the outbreak) were higher than the first. Perceived COVID-19 threat predicted intolerance of uncertainty, but did not predict biological rhythms. The relationship between perceived COVID-19 threat and the present PHQ score was partially mediated by intolerance of uncertainty. Also, the relationship between perceived COVID-19 threat and present PHQ score were partially mediated by both intolerance of uncertainty and biological rhythms. Conclusion: Psychosomatic complaints were increased during the COVID-19 outbreak period, and the changes in perceived threat and biological rhythm, especially intolerance of uncertainty, were effective in this increase. Results of our study revealed the importance of including the patient’s ability to tolerate uncertainty in therapeutic approaches during COVID-19 and similar pandemics. In addition, the importance of the attempt to protect the circadian rhythm in the quarantine process has been demonstrated once again in order to reduce mental influences of the COVID-19 outbreak.

To assess levels of anxiety, depression, loneliness, burnout and job satisfaction among paediatric Residents, and how they influence each other.The cross-sectional study was conducted at Necmettin Erbakan University, Meram, and Konya Meram Education and Research Hospital, Turkey from January to June 2011, and comprised paediatric Residents and their counterparts from other departments who formed the control group. While maintaining confidentiality, a questionnaire was used to collect data that had elements of the University of California, Los Angeles, Loneliness Scale, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Maslach Burnout Inventory and Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire. SPSS version 13 was used for statistical analysis.Overall there were 74 Residents in the study; 43 (58%) working with the paediatrics department, and 31 (42%) in the control group. Overall mean age was 27.60 ± 2.25 years. Residents who were not satisfied with the city they were living in, with their professional career and who would not choose the same career given a second chance were feeling more lonely and had higher loneliness scores (p0.05). In contrast, anxiety among female Residents who were unsatisfied with their professional career and working conditions was significantly high (p0.05). Positive correlation was detected between the burnout levels of Residents and their anxiety, depression and loneliness scores (r = 0.74; r = 0.65; r = 0.36). In terms of intrinsic, extrinsic and total job satisfaction, there was an obvious negative correlation (r = -0.57; r = -0.54; r = -0.61).Working conditions and professional liability were the main factors affecting the Residents. Informed decision and career willingness may help them feel better.

Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was performed in Konya city center. In 2006, sample size was calculated for pre-natal care in urban population (n=175). Same sample size was used as a base for infants. The neighborhoods from which the clusters were to be taken were selected randomly. Same sample size and progress were also used in 2011. Data were collected by face-to-face interview with the pregnant and mothers. Results: The average week of pregnancy was 25±9.
