Purpose: Determining microRNAs in breast cancer pathogenesis suggests that it may be beneficial for diagnosis and treatment. Materials and methods: Patients serum were collected and microRNAs were isolated. Then microRNAs was converted to cDNA. After that, investigated serum levels of 20 microRNAs (miR-17, miR-21, miR-34a, miR-105, miR-133a, miR-139-5p, miR-141, miR-143, miR-145, miR-155, miR-200a, miR-200b, miR-200c, miR-203, miR-210, miR-299-5p, miR-365, miR-375, miR-411, miR-452) in 39 patients with invasive breast cancer were analyzed before and after treatment. Results: In the analysis results, it is detected that serum levels of miR-200c, miR-375, miR-34a were markedly higher in the local advanced/metastatic group. MiR-141 levels was lower in patients with positive lymph node involvement, whereas miR-133a levels were higher in the same patient group. miR-105, miR-203, miR-375, miR-145 serum levels were markedly higher in the progesterone receptor negative group, likewise miR-105 levels were high in the estrogen receptor negative group. The high levels of miR-375 and miR-133a were noticeable in human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 positive patients. MiR-143 and miR-145 levels were observed higher in the patient with a ki-67 index >20%. It was found that 2 miRNAs (miR-133a and miR-139-5p) were markedly higher in patients in the luminal B group, which were separated by molecular subgroups. Nine of miRNAs that evaluated (miR-21, miR-34a, miR-105, miR-141, miR-200a, miR-200b, miR-200c, miR-203, miR-452) significantly increased and 5 of the miRNAs (miR-145, miR-365, miR-155, miR-143, miR-299-5p) were significantly reduced post-treatment. Conclusion: We think that miRNAs may help in evaluating the follow-up and prognosis of invasive breast cancer.

Amaç: Over kanseri jinekolojik kanserler arasında en yüksek ölüm oranına sahip olan kanserdir.İnflamasyon temelli skorlar olan nötrofil lenfosit oranı (NLR), trombosit lenfosit oranı (PLR), CRP albümin oranı (CRP/Alb) çoğu kanserde prognoz üzerine etkisi gösterilmiştir. Biz de bu çalışmada NLR, PLR, CRP/Albümin oranlarının over kanserinin prognozu üzerine olan etkisini değerlendirmeyi amaçladık. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmamıza Eylül 2014 - Aralık 2020 tarihleri arasında Pamukkale Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Tıbbi Onkoloji Bilim Dalı polikliniğine başvuran over karsinom tanılı 124 hasta çalışmaya alındı. Evre 1-4 arasında değişen toplam 124 hasta hasta çalışmaya dahil edildi. NLR, PLR, CRP/Albumin kesme noktaları ROC analizi ile yapıldı. Bulgular: Hastalarımızın medyan yaşı 56 (sınırlar 24-84 ) idi. NLR oranı 63 hastada (%50), PLR oranı 56 hastada (%45), CRP/Alb oranı 61 hastada (%49) kesme değerine göre yüksek saptandı. PLR değeri ile progresyon sağkalım arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ilişki yokken, genel sağkalımla istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ilişki bulunmaktaydı (p=0.01). PLR değeri yüksek olanlarda medyan genel sağkalım 23 ay iken PLR değeri düşük olanlarda 45 aydır olarak saptandı. CRP/Alb oranının ise hem progresyonsuz sağkalım hem de genel sağkalım ile istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ilişkisi mevcuttu (p=0.011; p=0.008). CRP/Alb değeri düşük olanlarda daha uzun progresyonsuz sağkalım ve genel sağkalım olduğu saptandı. Sonuç: Diğer kanser tiplerinde olduğu gibi over kanserinde de inflamasyon belirteçlerinin kanser progresyonu üzerine dolayısıyla prognoza olan etkisi dikkat çekmektedir. PLR oranının genel sağkalımla, CRP/alb oranının ise hem genel sağkalım hemde progresyonsuz sağkalımla istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişkisi olduğunu gösterdik. Bu oranların gelecekte farklı tedavi gruplarını oluştururken hastaların seçiminde yardımcı olabileceği kanısındayız.

Objectives: Denosumab reduces skeletal related events in castration-resistant metastatic prostate cancer (CRMPC)with bone metastases.It is recommended to give calcium and vitamin D to prevent hypocalcemia after denosumab.There is no recommendation to check vitamin D and the specific level of vitamin D that should not be given beforedenosumab. We aimed to show that the rate of hypocalcemia is high even in vitamin D deficiency alone in the absenceof other risk factors for hypocalcemia and can be reduced by checking vitamin D before the administration or by adjust ing the dose of denosumab according to the vitamin D, which are not included in denosumab product information (PI). Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 40 CRMPC patients who received subcutaneous injections of 120 mg denosumab. Results: 28 patients had vitamin D deficiency before treatment. Patients with vitamin D deficiency had a higher rate ofhypocalcemia (87.5% vs 16.6%). Hypocalcemia was significantly higher in patients with vitamin D deficiency (p:0.001).In patients with vitamin D deficiency, 87.5% grade1, 8.3% grade 2 and 4.1% grade 3 hypocalcemia developed. Conclusion: Vitamin D should be checked before treatment to prevent denosumab-related hypocalcemia. New studiesshould be planned for this recommendation to be in the denosumab PI.

Objectives: The knowledge of the possible differences in the clinical course of COVID-19 infection in cancer patients receiving treatment has not been sufficient to conclude. In this study, we retrospectively evaluated lymphocyte counts, LDH levels, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratios (NLR), platelet lymphocyte ratios (PLR), CRP albumin ratios (CRP/Alb), LDH/ albumin ratios in COVID-19 infected cancer patients actively treated in our clinic. Methods: Cancer patients who were currently under treatment in Department of Medical Oncology, Faculty of Medicine, Pamukkale University during the period between September 2020 and April 2021 were included in the study. During the period, 1363 stage 3-4 patients were received parenteral treatment and 60 patients were diagnosed with COVID-19 infection. INTRODUCTION: Due to new systemic treatment modalities, overall survival in lung cancer is increasing.Incidence of brain metastases in lung cancer are more common for this reason. The utilisation of stereotacticradiosurgery for one and oligo (two-four) brain metastases, has provided this treatment strategy as a promttreatment alternative. In this study we aimed to investigate the efficiency of stereotactic radiosurgery in lungcancer patients with brain metastasis, the effectiveness of adding diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) toconventional MRI for treatment evaluation and the relationship between clinical parameters retrospectively.METHODS: Seventy-nine lung cancer patients treated between January 2016 and December 2017 in our clinicwith stereotactic radiosurgery whose eastern cooperative oncology group (ECOG) performance status were 0-1and had less than 5 brain metastases, has retrsopectively analysed.RESULTS: The median age of patients was 59 years (43-78). Diffusion MRI has provided no more benefit forevaluation of treatment. There was no statistically significant mortality difference between subgroups of smallcell and non small cell lung carcinoma. The presence of extracranial metastases has shortened the overallsurvival time significantly (p=0,042).DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The lung cancer patients with brain metastases have histopathologicaland genetic heterogenity. Multivariate analysis showed the presence of extracranial metastases had onlyunfavorable impact on overall survival in our study.

Akciğer kanseri de dahil olmak üzere birçok kanserde apopitozis inhibisyonu ve survivinin önemine değinen önemli çalışmalar bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı akciğer kanserinde survivin ekspresyonu ile prognoz ilişkisini değerlendirmektir. Skuamoz hücreli akciğer kanseri tanılı toplam 50 hasta çalışmaya alındı. Tümör ve metastatik lenf nodlarında survivin düzeyi İHK (İmmunhistokimya) ve RT-PCR (reverz transkripsiyon-polimeraz zincir reaksiyonu) yöntemleri ve klinik parametrelerle beraber değerlendirildi. Hastaların median yaş değeri 60 yıl idi. Hastaların hepsi erkekti ve hepsi sigara içicisiydiler. Ortalama takip süresi 42.08±22.46 ay, hastalıksız sağkalım süresi ise 40.62±22.46 ay olarak hesaplandı. Metastatik lenf nodundaki survivin düzeyiyle, sigara içme süresi (İHK ve RT-PCR), anjiyolenfatik invazyon varlığı (İHK) ve mitoz sayısı (RT-PCR) arasında anlamlı ilişki saptandı (sırasıyla p= 0.05, p= 0.05, p< 0.001, p= 0.02). Mutivariet analizde survivin ile anjiyolenfatik invazyon varlığı ve evre arasında anlamlı ilişki bulundu (sırasıyla, p< 0.001, p= 0.04). Tümör ve lenf nodundaki survivin seviyesi ile sağkalım arasında anlamlı ilişki bulunamadı. Lenf nodunda İHK ile saptanan yüksek survivin düzeylerinde sağkalım daha kısa olmakla beraber istatistiksel olarak anlamlılık saptanmadı. Toplumumuzda survivinin prognostik ve prediktif önemini belirlemek için daha fazla hasta sayısıyla yapılacak daha kapsamlı çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır

In non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), stage of the disease is still the most important prognostic factor. Other than stage, many biological markers and many other prognostic factors are studied to define their effects on prognosis of lung cancer. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the expressions of Bax and bcl-2 genes which are important in apoptosis and c-kit, which is a tyrosine kinase transmembrane receptor, as well as searched their response to treatment modalities and effects on survival. Sixty-nine NSCLC cases' pathological samples were stained with specific Bax, bcl-2 and c-kit dyes by immunohistochemical (IHC) methods. IHC evaluation was done by the semichantitative method according to the distribution and intensity of the staining. Twelve of 69 cases (17.4%) were stage I, 28 (40.5%) were stage II, 17 were (24.6%) stage IIIA, nine cases were (13.1%) stage IIIB and three cases (4.4%) were stage IV patients. Their histological subtypes were as follows: of 69 cases, 36 (52.2%) were squamous cell carcinoma, 28 (40.6%) were adenocarcinoma, five (7.2%) were adenosquamous cell carcinoma (two patients) and large-cell carcinoma (three patients). The positive immunostaining rates for Bax and bcl-2 in whole group, squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma groups were 40.6%/36.2%, 55.6/69.4% and 25.0/0.0%, respectively. The positive immune staining rates for c-kit in whole group, squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma groups were 7.2, 5.6 and 7.1%, respectively. We didn't find any correlation with Bax, bcl-2 and c-kit expressions and clinicopathological parameters such as age, tumour size, lymph node involvement, smoking, stage of the disease, response to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Results are interpreted according to survival; bax and bcl-2 expressions were not so effective both in whole group and histologically subgrouped patients. C-kit expression was also found not related with survival in whole group whereas found as a bad prognostic factor in patients with squamous cell carcinoma. These findings could indicate that the expression of apoptotic pathway markers and c-kit may have a role in the prognosis of early stage NSCLC, especially with squamous cell carcinoma subtype. © Blackwell Publishing Ltd, 2006.
