Abstract: The effect of doping level of tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAPF6) on the performance of single-layer organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) with ITO/PVK:PBD:TBAPF6/Al structure were investigated where indium tin oxide (ITO) was used as anode, poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) as hole-transporting polymeric host, 2-(4-biphenylyl)-5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole (PBD) as electron-transporting molecule and aluminium (Al) as cathode. It was found that the doped devices underwent a unique transition at the first voltage scan as indicated by drastically increasing of current at certain applied voltage. After the transition, the threshold voltage for current injection as well as the turn-on voltage decreased significantly as compared to the undoped device. The current injection threshold voltage and turn-on voltage decreased with the increase of TBAPF6 doping level. More importantly, a relatively low current injection threshold voltage of 3V has been achieved by doping a significant amount of TBAPF6 (weight ratio greater than five) in the single-layer OLED based on PVK:PBD blend films with high work function Al metal as cathode. The significant improvement was attributed to the reduction of both electron and hole injection energy barriers caused by accumulation of ionic species at the interface. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The effect of thickness of functional layer on the electrical and electroluminescence (EL) properties of single-layer OLED with ITO/PVK:PBD:TBAPF6/Al structure were investigated where indium tin oxide (ITO) was used as anode, poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) as polymeric host, 2-(4-biphenylyl)-5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole (PBD) as electron-transporting molecule, tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAPF6) as organic salt dopant and aluminium (Al) as cathode. A unique transition phenomenon at high bias voltage in the devices was observed and the transition was reversible. The transition voltage and turn on voltage decreased with the decrease of functional layer thickness. The turn on voltage was approximately 5.5V and 6.5V for 55-nm-thick and 95-nm-thick devices, respectively. However, the current efficiency of 95-nm-thick device was higher than the 55-nm-thick device. More interestingly, the Commission Internationale d’Eclairage (C.I.E.) coordinates of EL spectra of 95-nm-thick device at bias voltage ranging from 7V to 13V located in the white light region even without any dye doping. The PL and EL spectra were found completely different. PBD electromer was proposed to dominate the EL spectrum, but the contribution from PVK–PBD electroplex cannot be completely ruled out. Antisense transcription (transcription from the opposite strand to a protein-coding or sense strand) has been ascribed roles in gene regulation involving degradation of the corresponding sense transcripts (RNA interference), as well as gene silencing at the chromatin level. Global transcriptome analysis provides evidence that a large proportion of the genome can produce transcripts from both strands, and that antisense transcripts commonly link neighboring "genes" in complex loci into chains of linked transcriptional units. Expression profiling reveals frequent concordant regulation of sense/antisense pairs. We present experimental evidence that perturbation of an antisense RNA can alter the expression of sense messenger RNAs, suggesting that antisense transcription contributes to control of transcriptional outputs in mammals.
