Abstract

In recent years, microfluidic bioreactors have become important in chemical production; however, the production cost is high, and it becomes difficult to balance scale, efficiency, and cost. Therefore, a low-cost, efficient, high-delivery-capacity, green-fluid reactor is urgently required. Herein, a cellulose bioreactor with dual-scale directional channels and a porous inner wall is reported for the continuous catalytic conversion of polydatin into resveratrol. The dual-scale directional channel structure endows the reactor with high mass transfer speed and large transport capacity, resulting in fast fluid diffusion rate and more severe "disturbance" inside the reactor. It accelerates the mass transfer state of the whole reaction and further improves the catalytic performance compared to the uniform channel reactor. The reactor can achieve a high conversion rate of 98.58% of resveratrol within 2 h and exhibits excellent stability, owing to which it has broad application prospects in catalytic reactions, and helps derive a new approach for constructing fluid catalysis bioreactors. 40. A Hierarchical Porous Cellulose Sponge Modified with Chlorogenic Acid as a Antibacterial Material for Water Disinfection.

Abstract

Water contaminated by microorganisms will seriously endanger public safety, as many diseases are caused by microorganisms, and water disinfection materials offer an effective method to solve this problem. In this work, a hierarchical porous structure cellulose sponge (CS) was constructed as the water disinfection filter substrate, where "long−chain" cellulose served as the skeleton to construct major pores, and "short−chain" cellulose filled the gaps between "long−chain" cellulose to construct minor pores. After CS was covalently modified by chlorogenic acid (CGA) to fabricate cellulose–chlorogenic acid sponge (C−CGAS), a hierarchical porous structure was retained. Due to the hierarchical porous structure, C−CGAS showed good mechanical stability (2.84% unrecoverable strain after 1000 compression cycles). Furthermore, C−CGAS also showed good antibacterial and antifungal abilities due to the antimicrobial ability and high water flux, and C−CGAS could eliminate 95% of E. coli within 0.5 h in the water disinfection test. Due to the stable covalent modification of CGA and its mechanical stability, C−CGAS showed no breakage, and even after nine consecutive use cycles, the antibacterial properties were almost unchanged. Thus, C−CGAS is a reusable and highly efficient water disinfection material. This study provides a new approach for the preparation of recyclable, safe, and efficient water disinfection materials. Abstract

Comprehensive Summary: Photocatalytic CO2 reduction to fuels and chemicals has been considered as the promising avenue to realize carbon resource recycling. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with pre‐designed and tailorable structures are promising platforms for studying the influence of the microenvironment of catalysts on photocatalytic CO2 reduction. Herein, we report three isomorphic COFs (TPHH‐COF, TPPD‐COF and TPBD‐COF) as heterogeneous photocatalysts for CO2 reduction and investigate the different levels of conjugation and planarity of COFs effect on the catalytic activity. Photoelectrochemical measurements show that TPPD‐COF has a narrower band gap and faster photocurrent response compared to TPHH‐COF and TPBD‐COF, probably due to the moderate conjugation and planarity. As the photocatalyst, TPPD‐COF showed the most outstanding photocatalytic activity with the production rates of 951 and 157 μmol·g–1·h–1 for CO and H2, respectively. This study illustrates the close relation between microenvironment and photocatalytic activity and provides new insights for designing high‐performance photocatalysts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
