In this work study, a comparative analysis was undertaken to investigate investigation into the cavitation erosion (CE) and corrosion behavior of laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) TC4 and as-cast TC4 in 0.6 mol/L NaCl solution. Relevant results indicated that LPBF TC4 revealed a rectangular checkerboard-like pattern with a more refined grain size compared to as-cast TC4. Meanwhile, LPBF TC4 surpassed its as-cast counterpart in CE resistance, demonstrating approximately 2.25 times lower cumulative mass loss after 8 h CE. The corrosion potential under alternating CE and quiescence conditions demonstrated that both LPBF TC4 and as-cast TC4 underwent a rapid potential decrease at the initial stages of CE, while a consistent negative shift in corrosion potential was observed with the continuously increasing CE time, indicative of a gradual decline in repassivation ability. The initial surge in corrosion potential during the early CE stages was primarily attributed to accelerated oxygen transfer. As CE progressed, the significant reduction in corrosion potential for both LPBF TC4 and as-cast TC4 was attributed to the breakdown of the passive film. The refined and uniform microstructure in LPBF TC4 effectively suppresses both crack formation and propagation, underscoring the potential of LPBF technology in enhancing the CE resistance of titanium alloys. This work can provide important insights into developing high-quality, reliable, and sustainable CE-resistant materials via LPBF technology.

Due to the development and utilization of nuclear energy, the safe disposal of nuclear waste needs to be urgently addressed. In recent years, the utilization of microorganisms’ adsorption capacity to dispose of radioactive waste has received increasing attention. When compared with conventional disposal methods, microbial adsorption exhibits the characteristics of high efficiency, low cost, and no secondary pollution. In the long term, microbial biomass shows significant promise as specific chemical-binding agents. Optimization of biosorption conditions, identification of rare earth element binding sites, and studies on the sorption capacities of immobilized cells provide compelling reasons to consider biosorption for industrial applications in heavy metal removal from solutions. However, the interaction mechanism between microorganisms and radioactive nuclides is very complex. This mini-review briefly provides an overview of the preparation methods, factors affecting the adsorption capacity, and the mechanisms of microbial adsorbents.

Abstract This study employs advanced electrochemical and surface characterization techniques to investigate the impact of electrochemical hydrogen charging on the corrosion behavior and surface film of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The findings revealed the formation of γ-TiH and δ-TiH2 hydrides in the alloy after hydrogen charging. Prolonging hydrogen charging resulted in more significant degradation of the alloy microstructure, leading to deteriorated protectiveness of the surface film. This trend was further confirmed by the electrochemical measurements, which showed that the corrosion resistance of the alloy progressively worsened as the hydrogen charging time was increased. Consequently, this work provides valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying the corrosion of Ti-6Al-4V alloy under hydrogen charging conditions.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of building planes on the microstructure and corrosion behaviors of 316L stainless steel (SS) manufactured using selective laser melting (SLM) when subjected to a 0.1 M HCl solution. The investigation of material corrosion behavior involved the utilization of a wide array of surface characterization techniques, as well as various electrochemical measurements. The findings were subjected to a comparison with those obtained from a commercially rolled 316L SS (R 316L SS). The analysis revealed that the XZ and YZ planes displayed a distinctive fish scale melt pool structure, while the XY plane exhibited a columnar melt pool structure. The densities of the low-angle grain boundaries for different building planes were observed as YZ

The challenge of cavitation erosion (CE) in flow-handling components of marine engineering has promoted the development of advanced materials due to safety incidents and economic costs. High entropy alloys (HEAs), known for high hardness and corrosion resistance, emerge as promising candidates. This paper delved into the CE characteristics of CoCrFeNiMoCu0.1 HEA when subjected to the 3.5 wt% NaCl solution, elucidating the synergistic effect of CE-corrosion. The quantitative analysis revealed that CE-corrosion synergy contributed 48.02% to total CE mass loss, primarily attributed to corrosion-induced CE damage. Meanwhile, electrochemical noise (EN) was utilized to reveal the corrosion behavior of CoCrFeNiMoCu0.1 HEA in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution combined with the morphologies observation and surface roughness. Extended CE time compromised the corrosion resistance of CoCrFeNiMoCu0.1 HEA and diminished the impact of selective phase corrosion on the surface. Eventually, the CE damage mechanism of CoCrFeNiMoCu0.1 HEA was revealed based on pertinent experimental findings. The results showed that with increased CE time, the CoCrFeNiMoCu0.1 HEA transitioned from predominantly extensive exfoliation of the initial FCC phase to further damage of the intermetallic σ and μ phases.

Abstract A series of electrochemical tests combined with the techniques of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to study the effect of nitrogen content on the composition, structure and protectiveness of passive films, which were formed on the surfaces of high-nitrogen austenitic stainless steels (HNSS) in 0.5 mol/L NaCl solution. The results showed that the HNSS with higher nitrogen content had a larger proportion of low-angle grain boundaries, and it also had a lower corrosion current density in 0.5 mol/L NaCl solution and thus a lower corrosion rate. The existence of a larger proportion of stable oxides (e.g., Cr2O3) in the passive films facilitates the passivation/repassivation process and contributes to the high corrosion resistance of HNSS.

This paper discusses the differences in the microstructure, mechanical properties, wear resistance, and corrosion behavior of nickel-aluminum bronze (NAB) alloys fabricated via wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) versus casting. The grain size of the WAAM-NAB alloy is smaller than that of the as-cast NAB alloys; furthermore, the precipitation of the large size κⅠ phase is completely suppressed while the remaining precipitated κ phases are limited and reduced in size. Compared with the cast alloy, the WAAM-NAB alloy indicates a higher bending and tensile strength by 46% and 18%, respectively. The coefficient of friction of WAAM-NAB alloy is 56% lower than cast alloys. Additionally, the WAAM-NAB alloy shows greater corrosion resistance against seawater, in that it only exhibited residual β phase corrosion, whereas the cast alloy sustained severe selective-phase corrosion.

By employing high-throughput first-principles calculations, the segregation capacity of fifteen widely used metallic alloying elements (viz., Be, Mn, Co, Cr, Ni, Al, Mo, W, Mg, Ta, Nb, Sb, Sn, Zr, and Bi) at ∑3 grain boundary in low alloy ferritic steel, as well as their impact on grain boundary stability, interfacial separation work, and other properties, were systematically investigated. The findings reveal that, for alloying atoms Sb, Sn, Bi, Nb, and Zr, whose size is notably larger than that of the matrix Fe atoms, the effect of strain energy minimization in segregation is comparable to that of chemical energy minimization. Furthermore, the impact of strain energy minimization is closely related to the volume of the alloying atoms both at the solid solution sites in the crystal and at the segregation sites at the grain boundary. Thus, the segregation of large alloy atoms on the grain boundaries can be predicted by atomic volume of each segregation site, which can provide valuable insights for the development of new alloys and for grain boundary engineering.

In this study, a composite steel plate for marine construction was fabricated using 316L stainless steel and A6 carbon steel through hot rolling. Neutral salt spray tests and electrochemical experiments were performed to analyse the corrosion behaviours of the cladding material, the carbon steel substrate, and the interface between stainless steel and carbon steel in a marine atmosphere and seawater. The results showed that an evident elemental overlap region was observed at the composite interface of the composite steel plate. After long salt spray test, the A6 carbon steel part showed significant accelerated corrosion along the interface, resulting in the interface specimens corroding at a faster rate than the carbon steel substrate. However, the composite interface showed better corrosion resistance than the carbon steel substrate in the electrochemical tests. A corrosion resistant layer with a width of 15 μm was found on the stainless-steel side of the composite interface.

Formation of super-hydrophobic and corrosion-resistant coatings can provide significant corrosion protection to magnesium alloys. However, it remains a grand challenge to produce such coatings for magnesium-lithium alloys due to their high chemical reactivity. Herein, a one-step hydrothermal processing was developed using a stearic-acid-based precursor medium, which enables the hydrothermal conversion and the formation of low surface energy materials concurrently to produce the super-hydrophobic and corrosion-resistant coating. The multiscale microstructures with nanoscale stacks and microscale spheres on the surface, as well as the through-thickness stearates, lead to the super-hydrophobicity and excellent corrosion resistance of the obtained coating.

This study used electrochemical noise technology to analyse the effects of surface damage induced by cavitation erosion (CE) on the pitting and passivation behaviours of TA31 Ti alloy. According to the results, TA31 Ti alloy exhibited high corrosion resistance in NaCl solutions. However, the residual tensile stress layer generated during grinding and polishing reduced its passivation ability. Subsequently, the residual tensile stress layer was eliminated after CE for 1 h, improving the passivation ability of the material. Thereafter, pitting corrosion was initiated on the material surface. Increasing the CE time from 1 h to 2 h gradually decreased the passivation ability of the alloy. A large number of CE holes promoted the transition from pitting initiation to metastable pitting growth. which gradually dominated the surface of TA31 Ti alloy. The damage mechanism of uniform thinning increased the passivation ability and stability of the alloy with the increase in CE time from 2 h to 6 h. Therefore, the surface of TA31 Ti alloy was dominated by the initiation of pitting corrosion.

Selective laser melting (SLM) is one of the common methods of additive manufacturing and herein, ultrasonic severe surface rolling (USSR) is applied to enhance the corrosion resistance of SLM 316L stainless steel (SS) in the 3.5% NaCl solution. USSR produces a thick (∼1 mm) gradient surface layer with a nanostructured, chemically homogeneous, and high-quality surface but a small amount of martensite. The USSR processed 316L SS exhibits significant enhancement in the corrosion resistance compared to the SLM one, as manifested by the greatly improved pitting potential, decreased passive current density, and reduced corrosion current density. The superior corrosion properties stem from the unique gradient structure with a high density of grain boundaries and chemically homogeneous and high-quality surface facilitating the formation of a thicker and more protective passive film that contains larger contents of oxides and hydroxides of Fe and Cr in spite of almost the same total Cr concentration. In addition to the high strength and ductility, the unique gradient structure endows the SLM 316L SS with superior corrosion resistance and long service lifetime in the marine environment, boding well for application to marine equipment and engineering.

Given the susceptibility to weld porosity and poor weld formability in laser beam welding (LBW), this study delves into an examination of the impact of ultrasonic vibrations on microstructural morphologies and mechanical properties in AZ31B magnesium (Mg) alloy. A comparative analysis was conducted between ultrasonic vibration-assisted LBW and conventional LBW. The results established that the effective elimination of weld porosity, an outcome attributed to the combined effects of cavitation and acoustic streaming, resulted in a weld characterized by a visually seamless and structurally robust appearance. Furthermore, the incorporation of ultrasonic vibration assistance in the welding process yielded a finer microstructure as compared to the conventional LBW. Moreover, the lamellar structures of β-Mg17Al12 were transformed into particles and evenly distributed throughout the α-Mg matrix. In addition, the incorporation of 50% ultrasonic vibration assistance yielded notable improvements in tensile strength (259.6 MPa) and elongation (11.1%). These values represented enhancements of 4.8% and 35.4% as compared to joints fabricated by using conventional LBW.

The pores and coarse lamellar Mg17Al12 that inevitably occur in the weld zone are the major challenge for laser-welded magnesium (Mg) alloys including AZ31B. In order to improve microstructure uniformity and eliminate welding defects, a new process assisted with combination of heat and cryogenic treatment was applied in this study. The results showed that after solution treatment, the number and size of precipitates decreased and the uniformity of the microstructure improved. After cryogenic treatment, the lamellar Mg17Al12 was cracked into particles, and the grain size was refined. After solution + cryogenic treatment, Al8Mn5 substituted the lamellar Mg17Al12. Through studying the changes in microhardness, precipitates, and microstructure under different treatments, it was found that the conversation of Mg17Al12 from lamellar state into particle-like state as well as the appearance of dispersed Al8Mn5 particles played a second-phase strengthening role in improving the mechanical properties of Mg alloy laser-welded joint, and the tensile strength (258.60 MPa) and elongation (10.90%) of the sample were 4.4% and 32.6% higher than those of the as-welded joint.

Nickel–aluminum bronze (NAB) is widely used to fabricate flow-handling components because of its good cavitation corrosion (CE) resistance and superior casting property. The existence of different phases, e.g., the α phase, β phase and κ phase, can cause significant selective phase corrosion on NAB. However, under the action of CE with different times, the influence of these phases on the corrosion behavior of NAB, including selective phase corrosion and uniform corrosion, needs to be further studied, which can contribute to a deep understanding of the CE mechanism of NAB in corrosive media. In this work, the corrosion behavior of NAB in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution after different CE times was evaluated by electrochemical noise (EN), combined with scanning Kelvin probe force microscopy (SKPFM) and morphology analysis. The results showed that the corrosion behavior of NAB was closely associated with the variation in its complex microstructure after different CE times. Selective phase corrosion played a crucial role in the surface damage before 0.5 h of CE. With the prolongation of CE time, the stripping of κ phases decreased the degree of selective phase corrosion of NAB. As a result, both selective phase corrosion and uniform corrosion presented equal performances after 1 h of CE. However, after CE for 2–5 h, uniform corrosion had a dominant impact on the surface damage of NAB. Eventually, the corrosion mechanism of NAB after different CE times was clarified based on the relevant experimental results.

In this study, quenching and tempering were employed to achieve the optimal match of strength and toughness of the high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) 15CrNi3MoV steel. The effect of the tempering temperature on the microstructure evolution and the carbides precipitation of the steel was also investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), a X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that after tempering at different temperatures, the microstructure of 15CrNi3MoV steel was tempered martensite. During the tempering process, the M3C carbides precipitated on the ferrite matrix, the needle-like carbides accumulated and grew into a short rodlike shape or a granular shape with the increase of the tempering temperature. Subsequently, the strength and hardness of the steel showed a downward trend, and the elongation and the low temperature impact toughness showed an upward trend. The tensile strength and yield strength of the steel tempered at 650 °C decreased dramatically compared with the steel tempered at 550 °C, while the elongation increased rapidly. Considering the influence of the microstructure and the carbides and the demand for mechanical properties, the optimal tempering temperature is about 600 °C.

The effects of laser scanning speed on the microstructure, microhardness, and corrosion behavior of Ni45 coatings were investigated by using optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), microhardness, and electrochemical measurements. The results showed that increasing laser scanning speed promotes the transformation from planar crystals to dendrites and refines the grains concurrently. The γ-(Ni, Fe), FeNi3, and M23(C,B)6 are identified as the primary phase composition in the Ni45 coatings regardless of the laser scanning speed. Thereinto, the formation and growth of M23(C,B)6 precipitates can be inhibited with increasing laser scanning speed due to the higher cooling rate, which affects the microhardness distribution and corrosion resistance of the coating. On the one hand, the microhardness of the whole coating presents a downtrend with increasing laser scanning speed due to the reduction of M23(C,B)6 phase. On the other hand, the corrosion resistance in 0.5 M NaCl solution is improved to some extent at higher laser scanning speed because the less precipitation of M23(C,B)6 reduces the depletion of Cr around the precipitates. In contrast, all the coatings exhibit undifferentiated but poor corrosion resistance in the highly corrosive 0.5 M NaCl + 0.5 M H2SO4 solution.

The formation of a corrosion-resistant coating by the hydrothermal method is an effective way to provide significant protection to magnesium alloys. However, it is a challenge to prepare such a coating on magnesium-lithium alloys because of its high chemical activity. Herein, the dual-layer structured corrosion-resistant conversion coating composed with Mg(OH)2 and LiOH was successfully synthesized on Mg-9Li alloy by the optimization of the hydrothermal reaction in deionized water. The coating synthesized at 140 °C for 2 h has the best anti-corrosion performance in all obtained coatings, which has a uniform and compact coating with thickness of about 3 μm. The improvement of the hydrophobicity due to the stacking structure of the surface layer, as well as the barrier effect of its inner compact coating on corrosive media, lead to the excellent anti-corrosion performance of the obtained hydrothermal conversion coating

Duplex Ni-P-TiO2/Ni-P coatings were electrodeposited onto brass substrates. High phosphorus Ni-P coatings were plated as the inner layer to improve the corrosion resistance, while low phosphorus sol-enhanced Ni-P-TiO2 coatings were deposited on the top to strengthen the mechanical property. The microstructure, morphology, mechanical property and corrosion resistance of coatings were investigated systematically. The results show that duplex coatings exhibit both excellent mechanical property and good corrosion resistance. The hardness was further improved from ~545 HV50 of duplex Ni-P/Ni-P coating to ~622 HV50 of duplex Ni-P-12.5mL/L TiO2/Ni-P coating, while the hardness of single Ni-P coating was only ~387 HV50. The corrosion resistance of duplex coatings improved significantly by adding a suitable amount of TiO2 sol. Duplex Ni-P-12.5mL/L TiO2/Ni-P coating presented the highest corrosion resistance. However, adding excessive quantities of sol (more than 12.5mL/L) caused nanoparticle agglomeration and created a porous structure in the outer layer, deteriorating the properties of coatings.

The corrosion behavior of E690 steel in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution at temperatures from 20 °C to 60 °C was investigated using electrochemical test. The corrosion morphology was characterized using SEM and AFM, and the corrosion layer was characterized using EDS, Raman spectroscopy and XPS. The results showed that the corrosion rate of E690 steel improves with the increase in temperature. The corrosion layers of E690 steel are mainly composed of α -Fe _2 O _3 , α -FeOOH and γ -FeOOH. With the elevated temperature, the content of α -FeOOH in corrosion layers increases, while the content of α -Fe _2 O _3 and γ -FeOOH decreases. The corrosion mechanisms were briefly discussed.

To study the effect of γ′ phase elements on the oxidation behavior of nanocrystalline coatings, two comparable nanocrystalline coating systems were established and prepared by magnetron sputtering. The oxidation experiments of the nanocrystalline coatings on the K38G and N5 superalloys were carried at 1050 °C for 100 h, respectively. The chemical composition of the above coatings is the same as the substrate alloy, including the γ′ elements, such as Al, Ta, and Ti. After serving at a high temperature for certain periods, their oxides participated and then affected the oxidation behavior of the coatings. The Al2O3 scale can be formed on the N5 coating, which cannot be formed on the K38G coating. Tantalum and titanium oxides can be detected on the oxide scale, which ruin its purity and integrity.

The 6061-T6 aluminum alloy welding joints were fabricated using gas metal arc welding (GMAW) of various laser powers, and the effect of laser power on the microstructure evolution of the welding joints was investigated. The corrosion behaviors of 6061-T6 aluminum alloy welding joints were investigated in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The results showed that the micro-galvanic corrosion initiation from Mg2Si or around the intermetallic particles (Al-Fe-Si) is observed after the immersion test due to the inhomogeneous nature of the microstructure. The preferential dissolution of the Mg2Si and Al-Fe-Si is believed to be the possible cause of pitting corrosion. When the laser power reached 5 kW, the microstructure of the welded joint mainly consisted of Al-Fe-Si rather than the Mg2Si at 2 kW. The relatively higher content of Al-Fe-Si with increasing in laser power would increase the volume of corrosion pits.

X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), immersion, electrochemical, and tensile tests were employed to analyze the phase constitution, microstructure, corrosion behaviors, and tensile properties of a Ti-6Al-4V alloy and a newly-developed low cost titanium alloy Ti-4Al-2V-1Mo-1Fe. The results showed that both the Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-4Al-2V-1Mo-1Fe alloys were composed of α and β phases. The volume fractions of β phase for these two alloys were 7.4% and 47.3%, respectively. The mass losses after 180-day immersion tests in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution of these alloys were negligible. The corrosion resistance of the Ti-4Al-2V-1Mo-1Fe alloy was higher than that of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The tensile tests showed that the Ti-4Al-2V-1Mo-1Fe alloy presented a slightly higher strength but a lower ductility compared to the Ti-6Al-4V alloy.

In this paper, the effect of the equal-channel-angular-pressed (ECAPed) substrate on the coating formation and anticorrosion performance of the anodized Al−11Si alloy was systematically investigated. The ECAP process dramatically refines both Al and Si phases of the alloy. The parallel anodizing circuit is designed to enable a comparative study of anodizing process between the cast and the ECAPed alloys by tracking their respective anodizing current quota. The optimum coatings of both alloys were obtained after anodization for 30 min. The ECAPed alloy attained a thicker, more compact, and more uniform coating. Energetic crystal defects in the fine Al grains of the ECAPed substrate promote the anodizing reaction and lead to the thicker coating. Fragmented and uniformly distributed fine Si particles in the ECAPed alloy effectively suppress the coating cracks, enhancing the compactness of the coating. Overall, the ECAP-coated sample exhibits the best anticorrosion performance, which is evidenced by the concurrently enhanced prevention of coating and improved corrosion resistance of the substrate.

The corrosion behavior of Alloy C-276 in high-temperature and high-pressure water at 500°C and 25 MPa, respectively, was investigated by means of mass gain, scanning electron microscopic observation, and X-ray diffraction. The results indicated that the mass gain rate of Alloy C-276 in supercritical water obeys the parabolic law. The oxide scale was formed on Alloy C-276 with a dual-layer structure, mainly consisting of an outer Ni-rich layer and an inner Cr2O3/NiCr2O4 mixed layer. Tiny microcracks can also be found in the oxide scale if exposed for longer time. Meanwhile, higher temperature promotes oxide rate and results in thermal stress in the oxide film.

Cast Mg-9Li alloy was successfully solid-solution (SS) treated via heating at 575 °C for 4.5 h and rapidly quenched with ice-water mixture. The mechanical property and corrosion resistance of the SS alloy were simultaneously improved. Rapid bcc/hcp phase transition of the alloy occurred during the quenching process, creating the newly precipitated needle-like fine α-Mg phase, uniformly distributed in the β-Li phase matrix. Dramatic grain refinement and uniform distribution of the α-Mg phase, as well as the massively increased α/β phase interfaces, are factors leading to the improved mechanical property of the SS alloy. Meanwhile, due to the modified duplex-phase structure, the SS alloy has a uniform corrosion-resistant surface film on the β-Li phase, which completely covers the entire alloy surface and efficiently protects the substrate. In addition, the SS alloy has fewer difference in the elements concentration and corrosion activity of the duplex phases, which reduces the pitting sensitivity and improves the corrosion resistance of the alloy matrix. The findings in this binary Mg-Li alloy can also serve as a benchmark for other more practical and complicated Mg-Li alloys.

In this study, we report on a low-temperature sintered enamel coating with a high-strength bonding and wear-resistance that protected a grey cast iron substrate. The SiO2⁻Al2O3⁻B2O3 composited prescription for the enamel coating was modified by the partial substitutions of SiO2 for B2O3 and alkali metals for Li2O. The optimized enamel coating was prepared by sintering at a relatively low temperature (730 °C) for seven minutes. Due to the composition of both the amorphous and crystalline phases, the enamel coating presented sufficient hardness and excellent wear resistance. The wear volume loss and the specific wear rate of the enamel coating were obviously lower than that of the metal substrate. The enamel coating can effectively improve the service life of the grey cast iron substrate in a complex frictional environment.

The passivity and semiconducting behaviors of a high nitrogen-containing nickel-free stainless steel (HNSS) in 0.05 mol/L H2SO4 + 0.5 mol/L NaCl have been investigated. Results indicated that HNSS offered excellent pitting corrosion resistance in corrosive environments. Three corrosion potential values were observed in potentiodynamic polarization response, indicating the existence of an unstable system. The current transient and Mott-Schottky plots demonstrated that the stability of passive films decreased with the increase of applied potentials. The angle resolved X-ray photoelectron spectrometric results revealed that the primary constituents of passive films formed in 0.05 mol/L H2SO4 + 0.5 mol/L NaCl solution were composed of iron oxides, manganese oxides, Cr2O3, and Cr(OH)3. Meanwhile, it indicated that molybdenum oxides did not exist in the oxide layer, but chloride ions were present in the passive films.

Surface nano-crystallization (SNC) of a conform-extruded Cu-0.4 wt.% Mg alloy was successfully conducted by high-speed rotating wire-brushing to obtain the deformed zone with dislocation cells and nanocrystallines. SNC promotes the anodic dissolution and corrosion rate of the Cu-Mg alloy in the initial stage of immersion corrosion in 0.1 M NaCl solution. The weakened corrosion resistance is mainly attributed to the higher corrosion activity of SNC-treated alloy. With extending the immersion time, the SNC-treated alloy slows the corrosion rate dramatically and exhibits uniform dissolution of the surface. The formation of the dense corrosion products leads to the improvement of overall corrosion performance. It indicates that the SNC-treated Cu-Mg alloy can function reliably for a longer duration in a corrosive environment.
