The clinical manifestations of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) are highly heterogeneous and no reliable diagnostic biomarkers exist.We explored the role of DNA methylation CpG markers in the diagnosis of PsA.DNA methylation array was used to screen for differentially methylated sites (DMSs) in the discovery phase (PsA, n = 25; healthy controls [HCs], n = 19; psoriasis vulgaris [PsV], n = 20). In the validation phase, pyrosequencing was used to identify the DMSs in an expanded cohort (PsA, n = 60; HCs, n = 91; PsV, n = 48; rheumatoid arthritis [RA], n = 60). Logistic regression prediction models were established based on the identified DMSs for the diagnosis of PsA.A total of 17 DMSs differentiating PsA and HCs as well as 11 DMSs differentiating PsA and PsV were screened in the discovery phase. A total of six DMSs (chr14: cg07940072, chr14: 38061320, chr9: cg15734589, chr6: cg12800266, chr3: cg12992827, chr6: cg24500972) differentiating PsA and HCs and two DMSs (chr12: cg16459382, chr2: cg16348668) differentiating PsA and PsV were identified using pyrosequencing. Three logistic regression prediction models were established based on the identified DMSs, which distinguished PsA, RA, PsV, and HCs (P 0.001). The models performed well in differentiating PsA from HCs, RA, and PsV (AUC: 0.858, 0.851, and 0.976, respectively).The models based on methylated CpG sites are useful for distinguishing patients with PsA from HCs and those with RA or PsV and are a highly sensitive and specific diagnostic biomarker for PsA.

Background Meta-analyses and single-site studies have established that children are less infectious than adults within a household when positive for ancestral SARS-CoV-2. In addition, children appear less susceptible to infection when exposed to ancestral SARS-CoV-2 within a household. The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOC) has been associated with an increased number of paediatric infections worldwide. However, the role of children in the household transmission of VOC, relative to the ancestral virus, remains unclear. Aim We aimed to evaluate children's role in household transmission of SARS-CoV-2 VOC. Methods We perform a meta-analysis of the role of children in household transmission of both ancestral SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV-2 VOC. Results Unlike with the ancestral virus, children infected with VOC spread SARS-CoV-2 to an equivalent number of household contacts as infected adults and were equally as likely to acquire SARS-CoV-2 VOC from an infected family member. Interestingly, the same was observed when unvaccinated children exposed to VOC were compared with unvaccinated adults exposed to VOC. Conclusions These data suggest that the emergence of VOC was associated with a fundamental shift in the epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2. It is unlikely that this is solely the result of age-dependent differences in vaccination during the VOC period and may instead reflect virus evolution over the course of the pandemic.

Severe cutaneous adverse drug reactions (SCAR) are life-threatening and contain drug reactions with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), and acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP).We aimed to evaluate clinical features and prognostic factors for SCAR patients. From January 2010 to April 2022, 209 patients with SCAR (DRESS, n = 46, SJS/TEN, n = 128, AGEP, n = 35) were included in this study. Clinical symptoms, laboratory tests, causative drugs, disease courses, treatments, and outcomes were investigated.Antibiotics ranked first (35.9 %) followed by traditional Chinese medicine (15.8 %) and antiepileptic drugs (14.8 %) among causative drugs of SCAR. One patient (2.2 %) with DRESS and seven patients (5.5 %) with SJS/TEN died in the hospital, while there was no AGEP-related mortality. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that high Registry of Severe Cutaneous Adverse Reactions score (OR = 2.340, 95 % CI = 1.192-4.591) and hemoglobin 100 g/L (OR = 0.126, 95 % CI = 0.016-0.983) were independent risk factors of DRESS. Anemia (OR = 0.191, 95 % CI = 0.037-0.984) and body surface area detached involved at day 1 (OR = 2.749, 95 % CI = 1.115-6.778) were independent risk factors of SJS/TEN for severe acute complications and hospital death (P 0.05). Lymphocytopenia (OR = 0.004, 95 % CI = 0.000-0.553) was a risk factor of AGEP for acute complications (P = 0.028).This study reveals the clinical features and independent prognostic factors for SCAR, which may be helpful in the clinical management for SCAR patients.

Background Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a multisystem rheumatic disease. Orofacial manifestations are commonly in SSc but maybe usually ignored and overshadowed by other systemic complications. Multiple comparative studies have been conducted to investigate the possible links between SSc and oral manifestations. The present study aimed to investigate the oral health status in patients with SSc. Methods Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched up to July 2020. Following outcomes were evaluated: Probing depth (PD), Attachment loss (AL), Bleeding on probing (BOP), Number or percentage of Sites with PD ≥ 4 mm, Prevalence of periodontitis, Number of teeth, Decayed Teeth, Missing teeth, Filled teeth, DMFT index, and the interincisal distance. Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) were applied for quality assessment. The statistical analysis was processed using the software STATA. Results 11 eligible studies were included. The maximum interincisor distance was significantly restricted in SSc patients (SMD − 1.061; 95 %CI [− 1.546, − 0.576]; Z = 4.29, P = 0.000).The prevalence of Periodontitis (OR 7.007; 95 %CI [3.529, 13.915]; Z = 5.56, P = 0.000), PD (SMD 3.101; 95 %CI [1.374, 4.829]; Z = 3.52, P = 0.000), AL(SMD 2.584; 95 %CI [0.321, 4.846]; Z = 2.24, P = 0.025), sites with PD ≥ 4mm (SMD 2.071 ; 95 %CI [0.267, 3.875]; Z = 2.25, P = 0.024) and the number of decayed teeth (SMD, 0.186; 95 %CI [0.007, 0.365]; Z = 2.04, P = 0.041) were increased significantly in SSc population in comparison with the controls. Conclusions SSc patients have limited mouth opening, higher periodontitis prevalence, and worse periodontal status, as well as an increased number of decayed teeth. Routinely oral hygiene instruction and initial periodontal treatment is recommended for SSc patients.

BackgroundRobust biomarkers that predict disease outcomes amongst COVID-19 patients are necessary for both patient triage and resource prioritisation. Numerous candidate biomarkers have been proposed for COVID-19. However, at present, there is no consensus on the best diagnostic approach to predict outcomes in infected patients. Moreover, it is not clear whether such tools would apply to other potentially pandemic pathogens and therefore of use as stockpile for future pandemic preparedness.MethodsWe conducted a multi-cohort observational study to investigate the biology and the prognostic role of interferon alpha-inducible protein 27 (IFI27) in COVID-19 patients.FindingsWe show that IFI27 is expressed in the respiratory tract of COVID-19 patients and elevated IFI27 expression is associated with the presence of a high viral load. We further demonstrate that systemic host response, as measured by blood IFI27 expression, is associated with COVID-19 severity. For clinical outcome prediction (e.g. respiratory failure), IFI27 expression displays a high positive (0.83) and negative (0.95) predictive value, outperforming all other known predictors of COVID-19 severity. Furthermore, IFI27 is upregulated in the blood of infected patients in response to other respiratory viruses. For example, in the pandemic H1N1/09 swine influenza virus infection, IFI27-like genes were highly upregulated in the blood samples of severely infected patients.InterpretationThese data suggest that prognostic biomarkers targeting the family of IFI27 genes could potentially supplement conventional diagnostic tools in future virus pandemics, independent of whether such pandemics are caused by a coronavirus, an influenza virus or another as yet-to-be discovered respiratory virus.Research in contextEvidence before this studyWe searched the scientific literature using PubMed to identify studies that used the IFI27 biomarker to predict outcomes in COVID-19 patients. We used the search terms “IFI27”, “COVID-19, “gene expression” and “outcome prediction”. We did not identify any study that investigated the role of IFI27 biomarker in outcome prediction. Although ten studies were identified using the general terms of “gene expression” and “COVID-19”, IFI27 was only mentioned in passing as one of the identified genes. All these studies addressed the broader question of the host response to COVID-19; none focused solely on using IFI27 to improve the risk stratification of infected patients in a pandemic.Added value of this studyHere, we present the findings of a multi-cohort study of the IFI27 biomarker in COVID-19 patients. Our findings show that the host response, as reflected by blood IFI27 gene expression, accurately predicts COVID-19 disease progression (positive and negative predictive values; 0.83 and 0.95, respectively), outperforming age, comorbidity, C-reactive protein and all other known risk factors. The strong association of IFI27 with disease severity occurs not only in SARS-CoV-2 infection, but also in other respiratory viruses with pandemic potential, such as the influenza virus. These findings suggest that host response biomarkers, such as IFI27, could help identify high-risk COVID-19 patients - those who are more likely to develop infection complications - and therefore may help improve patient triage in a pandemic.Implications of all the available evidenceThis is the first systemic study of the clinical role of IFI27 in the current COVID-19 pandemic and its possible future application in other respiratory virus pandemics. The findings not only could help improve the current management of COVID-19 patients but may also improve future pandemic preparedness.

Wenzhou mammarenavirus (WENV) is a zoonotic pathogen newly discovered in east and southeast Asia. WENV has been found in wild rodent animals around the world while its standing is barely understood in Guangzhou city, where is known as a region of outbreak hotspot for zoonotic emerging infectious diseases. To investigate the prevalence and genomic characteristics of mammarenavirus in Guangzhou City, lung tissue samples from wild rodent species were collected from five districts of Guangzhou City in the year 2015 and 2016. The viral RNA was extracted and then subjected to mammarenavirus-specific PCR. The result revealed approximately 1.0% (3/306) nucleic acid positivity for lung tissue samples obtained from three rodent species: Mus musculus, Rattus flavipectus, and Rattus norvegicus. Viral metagenomic sequencing of three samples was then carried out and two full segment L and three full segment S sequences were obtained. Phylogenetics analysis indicated the sequences of the new mammarenavirus strain have 76.2% - 94.4% similarity to known WENV encoded genes, with the highest similarity to the WENV 9–24 strain. Population structure analysis grouped all known WENV into seven lineages, and this WENV Guangzhou strain was grouped with WENV 9–24 as well. Though the seroprevalence result was not available, our data provides the first nucleic acid evidence of circulating WENV in Guangzhou city, and it suggested WENV had a broader host tropism than previously known.

Nanoscale transformation twins (NSTTs) were observed in high-strength pipeline steels of three different grades (X80–X100) having carbon content of 0.038–0.065 wt%. The microstructure and formation of the NSTTs were characterized by field emission transmission electron microscopy. The results showed that the NSTTs were generated in two body-centered cubic microstructures—polygonal ferrite and martensite—in the martensite–austenite (MA) islands. The NSTTs were nucleated at the grain boundaries (GBs) between polygonal ferrite and bainite or triple junctions of MA islands through the emission of Shockley partial dislocation from GBs during the austenite transformation to ferrite and bainite, and extended into the interior of the ferrite grains and MA islands. The NSTTs were typical {112} -type twins. Most NSTTs displayed groups of twins. The thickness of twin plates in the groups of twins was less than 10 nm.

A Christmas tree is a key wellhead device consisting of valves and fittings used for controlling oil and gas well fluid. Generally, various combinations are applied on Christmas tree to meet the requirement of specific working conditions. In present work, fracture of a four-way flange of a KQ65 wellhead Christmas tree was investigated through mechanical properties testing, microstructure characterization and fractography analysis. It is revealed that the four-way flange possesses very low impact toughness, and its CVN impact energy was only 4 J at 243 K. Representative microstructure of the four-way flange consists of coarse polygonal ferrite and pearlite, and the size of pearlite cluster was up to 280 μm. Ferrite grains displayed networks along grain boundaries of pearlite colony. The brittle microstructure of the four-way flange was likely caused by inappropriate heat treatment process. In addition, fractography analysis showed that fracture crack initiated from the flange and four-way junction, where stress was concentrated and thus resulted in the dimensional and structural change of four-way flange. It is concluded that fracture failure of the KQ65 wellhead Christmas tree was caused by coupling effect of the brittle microstructure and the localized stress concentration.

OBJECTIVE Obesity is an established risk factor for severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) but the contribution of overweight and/or diabetes remain unclear. In a multi-center international study, we investigated if overweight, obesity and diabetes were independently associated with COVID-19 severity, and whether the body mass index (BMI)-associated risk was increased among those with diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN & METHODS We retrospectively extracted data from health care records and regional databases of hospitalized adult patients with COVID-19 from 18 sites in 11 countries. We used standardized definitions and analyses to generate site-specific estimates, modelling the odds of each outcome (supplemental oxygen/non-invasive ventilation, invasive mechanical ventilation, and in-hospital mortality) by BMI category (reference, overweight, obese) adjusting for age, sex, and pre-specified co-morbidities. Subgroup analysis was performed on patients with pre-existing diabetes. Site-specific estimates were combined in a meta-analysis. RESULTS Among 7244 patients (65.6% overweight/obese), those with overweight were more likely to require oxygen/non-invasive ventilation (random effects adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 1.44 [95% CI 1.15-1.80]) and invasive mechanical ventilation (aOR 1.22 [CI 1.03-1.46]). There was no association between overweight and in-hospital mortality (aOR 0.88 [CI 0.74-1.04]). Similar effects were observed in patients with obesity or diabetes. In the subgroup analysis, the aOR for any outcome was not additionally increased in those with diabetes and overweight or obesity. CONCLUSIONS In adults hospitalized with COVID-19, overweight as well as obesity and diabetes were associated with increased odds of respiratory support but not mortality. In patients with diabetes, the odds of severe COVID-19 were not increased above the BMI-associated risk.

Background A number of studies have linked positive Ki-67 expression with the prognosis of osteosarcoma (OS) patients. However, the results have been conflicting. To address this controversy, we conducted an analysis using a meta-analysis and a TCGA dataset to estimate the value of Ki-67 expression in the prognosis of OS. Methods A comprehensive search for relevant papers was conducted using NCBI PubMed, Embase, Springer, ISI Web of Knowledge, the Cochrane Library, and CNKI regardless of the publication year. The associations between Ki-67 expression and the clinical features and main prognostic outcomes of OS were measured. The TCGA dataset was also analyzed. The pooled odds ratio (OR) and its 95% confidential intervals (CIs) were utilized for statistical analysis. Results Overall, a total of 12 studies with 500 cases were included, and the results indicated that the expression of Ki-67 was significantly associated with Enneking stage (OR = 6.88, 95% CI: 2.92–16.22, p p p Conclusion The present study strongly suggests that positive Ki-67 expression was associated with Enneking stage, distant metastasis, and overall survival of OS, and it may be used as a potential biomarker to predict prognosis and guide clinical therapy for OS.

The role of children in the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) remains highly controversial. To address this issue, we performed a meta-analysis of the published literature on household SARS-CoV-2 transmission clusters (n = 213 from 12 countries). Only 8 (3.8%) transmission clusters were identified as having a pediatric index case. Asymptomatic index cases were associated with a lower secondary attack in contacts than symptomatic index cases (estimate risk ratio [RR], 0.17; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.09-0.29). To determine the susceptibility of children to household infections the secondary attack rate in pediatric household contacts was assessed. The secondary attack rate in pediatric household contacts was lower than in adult household contacts (RR, 0.62; 95% CI, 0.42-0.91). These data have important implications for the ongoing management of the COVID-19 pandemic, including potential vaccine prioritization strategies.

It is not yet well defined whether patient groups at increased risk of severe respiratory disease due to SARS-CoV-2 infection also experience a heightened incidence of cardiac complications.ObjectiveWe sought to analyse the role of pre-existing chronic disease (chronic respiratory illness, cardiovascular disease (CVD), hypertension and diabetes mellitus) in the development of cardiac complications from SARS-CoV-2.Data SourcesWe retrospectively investigated published (including pre-prints), publicly released, de-identified, data made available between Dec 1, 2019, and May 11, 2020. At present, viral disease and transmission amongst children is incompletely understood. Specifically, there is concern that children could be an important source of SARS-CoV-2 in household transmission clusters. METHODS We performed an observational study analysing literature published between December 2019 and March 2020 of the clinical features of SARS-CoV-2 in children and descriptions of household transmission clusters of SARS-CoV-2. In these studies the index case of each cluster defined as the individual in the household cluster who first developed symptoms. FINDINGS Drawing on studies from China, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and Iran a broad range of clinical symptoms were observed in children. These ranged from asymptomatic to severe disease. Of the 31 household transmission clusters that were identified, 9.7% (3/31) were identified as having a paediatric index case. This is in contrast other zoonotic infections (namely H5N1 influenza virus) where 54% (30/56) of transmission clusters identified children as the index case. INTERPRETATION Whilst SARS-CoV-2 can cause mild disease in children, the data available to date suggests that children have not played a substantive role in the intra-household transmission of SARS-CoV-2. The goal of this study was to compare the microbiota in different pig-present settings in China. Bioaerosol samples from pig farms and slaughterhouses and nasal samples from pig farmers and slaughterhouse workers were collected in Guangdong, southern China. The bacterial genomic DNA was isolated and subjected to 16S sequencing. The data were analyzed using QIIME2 with the DADA2 pipeline. A total of 14,923,551 clean reads and 2785 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were obtained, which were mostly grouped into 4 phyla (Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria) and 220 families. The microbiota richness of nasal samples in pig-present workers was higher than that of bioaerosols collected in the vicinity of the pig enclosures. Autoimmune diseases are often treated by glucocorticoids and immunosuppressive drugs that could increase the risk for infection, which in turn deteriorate disease and cause mortality. Low-dose IL-2 (Ld-IL2) therapy emerges as a new treatment for a wide range of autoimmune diseases. To examine its influence on infection, we retrospectively studied 665 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) including about one third receiving Ld-IL2 therapy, where Ld-IL2 therapy was found beneficial in reducing the incidence of infections. In line with this clinical observation, IL-2 treatment accelerated viral clearance in mice infected with influenza A virus or lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV). Noticeably, despite enhancing anti-viral immunity in LCMV infection, IL-2 treatment exacerbated CD8+ T cell-mediated immunopathology. In summary, Ld-IL2 therapy reduced the risk of infections in SLE patients and enhanced the control of viral infection, but caution should be taken to avoid potential CD8+ T cell-mediated immunopathology., Author summary Opportunistic infections cause disease exaggeration in patients with autoimmune diseases, representing a leading cause of mortality. Corticosteroids and immunosuppressive therapies often increase the risk of infections. Low-dose IL-2 therapy emerged as a promising new therapy to treat a wide range of inflammatory and autoimmune disorders, but the effect of this therapy to infections has not been systemically evaluated. In this retrospective study, Low-dose IL-2 therapy was found to be associated with the reduced incidence of infection in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients. In mouse models of influenza A and lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) infection, IL-2 treatment enhanced the effector function of CD8+ T cells and accelerated viral clearance but exacerbated CD8+ T cell-mediated immunopathology in acute LCMV infection. Our findings show that Low-dose IL-2 therapy might particularly benefit autoimmune disease patients with increased risk of infection due to compromised immunity, such as reduced CD8+ T cell function, but caution should be taken to avoid potential CD8+ T cell-mediated immunopathology.

The emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance have become emerging threats to human health. The human gut is a large reservoir for antibiotic resistance genes. The gut resistome may be influenced by many factors, but the consumption of antibiotics at both individual and country level should be one of the most significant factors. Previous studies have suggested that the gut resistome of different populations may vary, but lack quantitative characterization supported with relatively large datasets. In this study, we filled the gap by analyzing a large gut resistome dataset of 1,267 human gut samples of America, China, Denmark, and Spain. We built a stacking machine-learning model to determine whether the gut resistome can act as the sole feature to identify the nationality of an individual reliably. It turned out that the machine learning method could successfully identify American, Chinese, Danish, and Spanish populations with F1 score of 0.964, 0.987, 0.971, and 0.986, respectively. Our finding does highlight the significant differences in the composition of the gut resistome among different nationalities. Our study should be valuable for policy-makers to look into the influences of country-specific factors of the human gut resistome.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has been associated with multiple direct and indirect cardiovascular complications. We sought to analyze the association of host co-morbidities (chronic respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular disease [CVD], hypertension or diabetes mellitus [DM]) with the acute cardiovascular complications associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection. Individual analyses of the majority of studies found median age was higher by ~10 years in patients with cardiovascular complications. Pooled analyses showed development of SARS-CoV-2 cardiovascular complications was significantly increased in patients with chronic respiratory illness (odds ratio (OR): 1.67 [1.48, 1.88]), CVD (OR: 3.37 [2.57, 4.43]), hypertension (OR: 2.68 [2.11, 3.41]), DM (OR: 1.60 [1.31, 1.95]) and male sex (OR: 1.31 [1.21, 1.42]), findings that were mostly conserved during sub-analysis of studies stratified into global geographic regions. ANGPTL8 is a 22-KDa protein in the angiopoietin-like family. It is a liver-derived hormone that dynamically regulates glucose metabolism after refeeding. The mechanism of its regulation of glucose metabolism is unclear. We analyzed the effect of ANGPTL8 overexpression on glucose tolerance in the mouse liver by tail vein hydrodynamic transfection. The mechanism of ANGPTL8 improving insulin sensitivity was analyzed by the overexpression or knockdown of ANGPTL8 in mouse primary hepatocytes through in vitro synthetic mRNA and siRNA technology. The key site of ANGPTL8 protein regulating this signal pathway was screened by DNA point mutation and fragment truncation. The results showed that ANGPTL8 may directly regulate AKT protein phosphorylation in the insulin-mediated PI3K/AKT signaling pathway to improve insulin sensitivity. Ser94 and Thr98 are the key sites of ANGPTL8 protein in activating AKT protein phosphorylation. Present results indicate that ANGPTL8 may be a potential new agent to reduce postprandial blood glucose.

The record-breaking number of dengue cases reported in Guangdong, China in 2014 has been topic for many studies. However, the spatial and temporal characteristics of this unexpectedly explosive outbreak are still poorly understood. We adopt an integrated approach to ascertain the spatial-temporal progression of the outbreak in each city in Guangdong as well as in each district in Guangzhou, where the majority of cases occurred. We utilize the Richards model, which determines the waves of reported cases at each location and identifies the turning point for each wave, in combination with a spatial association analysis conducted by computing the standardized G* statistic that measures the degree of spatial autocorrelation of a set of geo-referenced data from a local perspective. We found that Yuexiu district in Guangzhou was the initial hot spot for the outbreak, subsequently spreading to its neighboring districts in Guangzhou and other cities in Guangdong province. Hospital isolation of cases during early stage of outbreak in neighboring Zhongshan (in effort to prevent disease transmission to the vectors) might have played an important role in the timely mitigation of the disease. Integration of modeling approach and spatial association analysis allows us to pinpoint waves that spread the disease to communities beyond the borders of the initially affected regions.

Background This study aimed to investigate the spatiotemporal clustering and socio-environmental factors associated with dengue fever (DF) incidence rates at street level in Guangzhou city, China. Methods Spatiotemporal scan technique was applied to identify the high risk region of DF. Multiple regression model was used to identify the socio-environmental factors associated with DF infection. A Poisson regression model was employed to examine the spatiotemporal patterns in the spread of DF. Results Spatial clusters of DF were primarily concentrated at the southwest part of Guangzhou city. Age group (65+ years) (Odd Ratio (OR) = 1.49, 95% Confidence Interval (CI) = 1.13 to 2.03), floating population (OR = 1.09, 95% CI = 1.05 to 1.15), low-education (OR = 1.08, 95% CI = 1.01 to 1.16) and non-agriculture (OR = 1.07, 95% CI = 1.03 to 1.11) were associated with DF transmission. Poisson regression results indicated that changes in DF incidence rates were significantly associated with longitude (β = -5.08, P, Author summary Dengue fever (DF) as a mosquito-borne viral disease remains a challenge for the prevention and control caused by the increased population, global development, human movement, and urbanization in the last five decades. The largest DF outbreak occurred with more than 40,000 cases in Guangdong in 2014 since DF re-emerged in China. The accurately spatiotemporal identification of DF transmission and the related socio-environmental factors are considered to be important for the strategy decision-making of the official government. This study first identified the spatiotemporal pattern and socio-environmental factors associated with DF occurrence at street and daily level in Guangzhou, China from 2006 to 2014, using spatiotemporal scan statistical methods. The results suggested that DF control should be targeted in the southwest of Guangzhou during autumn, particularly 75 high risk streets. We found that the aged population, floating population, low-education population and the non-agricultural population significantly contributed to the DF clustering risk at street level. Finally, a spread trend of DF toward southwest part of Guangzhou was noticed. These results could be implemented towards prevention and control measures of DF in high-risk areas in Guangzhou.
