Based on morphological characteristics, including male and female genitalia, combined with DNA barcodes, two new species, Anaplecta circinalis Deng & Che, sp. nov. and Anaplecta bihamata Deng & Che, sp. nov., are described in detail. Additional information on the female genitalia of Anaplecta furcata Deng & Che, 2020 is also provided. Photographs of external morphology and caudal anatomy of these species, as well as a key to the Chinese Anaplecta species, are provided.

Members of the morphologically and ecologically diverse Blattellidae provide a dilemma: their systematic assignment, whether morphologically similar or different, is uncertain. We pay special attention to several taxa: the morphologically similar Episymploce Bey-Bienko, 1950 and Symploce Hebard, 1916, which were strongly disputed because of their extremely similar generic diagnosis in the past century, and one brachypterous species of Blattella Caudell, 1903, which can be easily distinguished from other macropterous members, but is at risk of being misassigned to other genera on the basis of morphological characters. We address the phylogeny of Blattellidae using DNA sequences (mitochondrial 12S rRNA, 16S rRNA, COII, nuclear 28S rRNA, histone H3) from a broad sample of taxa. A new genus (Centrocolumna gen. nov.) and four new species (Centrocolumna ericea sp. nov., Symploce nigra sp. nov., Symploce tubercularis sp. nov., Blattella foliolata sp. nov.) are established on the basis of morphological characters combined with the molecular data. The phylogenetic results indicate the relationships ((Episymploce + Blattella) + Centrocolumna gen. nov.) + Symploce. Furthermore, we delimited the taxonomic status of 12 new combinations, which involve Centrocolumna gen. nov., Episymploce, Symploce, and Blattella.

One new species of Bundoksia Lucañas, 2021 from China is described. We construct a haplotype network from 21 COI sequences to display the relationships amongst populations of Bundoksia longissima sp. nov., mainly from Hainan Island, Yunnan Province and Guangxi Province, China. For the first time, we provide the details of female genitalia in addition to the known external morphology and male genitalia of the genus. Six molecular markers (12S, 16S, 18S, 28S, COI and COII) from a total of 38 samples, including three samples of Bundoksia longissima sp. nov., are used to reconstruct phylogenetic trees using Maximum Likelihood (ML) and Bayesian Inference (BI) to assess the phylogenetic affinities of Bundoksia. Photographs of the morphology and a key to the three Bundoksia species are also provided.

Morphological characteristics, including male and female genitalia, combined with DNA barcodes were used to identify 470 Anaplecta specimens sampled from China. Ten Anaplecta species are new to science, including three cryptic species: A. paraomei Zhu & Che, sp. nov., A. condensa Zhu & Che, sp. nov., and A. longihamata Zhu & Che, sp. nov., which are distinguished mainly by their female genitalia. The other seven new species are as follows: A. bicruris Zhu & Che, sp. nov., A. spinosa Zhu & Che, sp. nov., A. ungulata Zhu & Che, sp. nov., A. anomala Zhu & Che, sp. nov., A. serrata Zhu & Che, sp. nov., A. bombycina Zhu & Che, sp. nov., and A. truncatula Zhu & Che, sp. nov. This study illustrates that differences in female genitalia can be used to distinguish among species of Anaplecta. The female genitalia of 19 Chinese Anaplecta species are described and illustrated in this paper.

The abnormal monitoring of stadium sensor data is of great significance to the deployment and design of IoT technology. Because the nodes that need to be monitored in the stadium are scattered, the monitoring sequence of traditional sensor nodes is chaotic, resulting in large deviations in detection results, and when the number of nodes is large, the remaining energy is low. In order to establish an effective and intelligent temperature sensing device for stadiums, this paper proposes a method for monitoring abnormalities of stadiums’ perception data based on edge computing and time series. According to the stadium sensor network structure based on edge computing, it is divided into cloud layer, edge layer and bottom layer, with the goal of minimizing energy consumption. Analyze mobile edge computing elements and design sensor data storage and distribution solutions. The time series is used to mine the anomalous data of the stadium. On this basis, taking the temperature of the stadium as an example, the abnormal monitoring result of the sensor data of the stadium is obtained. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, a simulation experiment is designed. Experimental results show that the detection accuracy of this method is high, and the residual energy of nodes has no obvious downward trend. The experimental results verify the ideal application performance of the proposed method, which is of great significance to the monitoring of stadiums.

Laevifacies quadrialata gen. et sp. nov. is described from Hainan Province, China based on morphological data. COI data (DNA barcodes) is utilized to confirm the sexual dimorphism occurring in Laevifacies quadrialata gen. et sp. nov. Melanozosteria nitida Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1865, is reported from Guangxi Province, China. A key to the Chinese Polyzosteriinae is provided.

This study examined 504 Rhabdoblatta specimens sampled from China, of which, 86 Rhabdoblatta specimens were used for COI sequencing. A phylogenetic analysis using the ML method and MOTUs estimations by ABGD and GMYC based on COI sequences was performed. Eighteen Rhabdoblatta species were identified when these data were combined with morphological data. Six new species were established among these samples, i.e., Rh. similsinuata sp. n., Rh. densimaculata sp. n., Rh. gyroflexa sp. n., Rh. chaulformis sp. n., Rh. maculata sp. n., and Rh. ecarinata sp. n. For the first time, females including female genitalia of 14 known Rhabdoblatta species are described worldwide. Our study shows that combining molecular species delimitation methods with morphological data helps to delimit species and understand cockroach biodiversity.

In this study, we examine 500 specimens of Anaplecta collected from China, of which 26 samples were used for COI sequencing. We confirm eight new species, i.e., Anaplecta corneola Deng & Che sp. nov., Anaplecta staminiformis Deng & Che sp. nov., Anaplecta arcuata Deng & Che sp. nov., Anaplecta strigata Deng & Che sp. nov., Anaplecta furcata Deng & Che sp. nov., Anaplecta cruciata Deng & Che sp. nov., Anaplecta nigra Deng & Che sp. nov. and Anaplecta bicolor Deng & Che sp. nov. based on morphological and molecular data using ABGD and GMYC analyses. The results of ABGD and GMYC were basically consistent with the morphospecies of Anaplecta. The intraspecific and interspecific genetic distances of Anaplecta ranged from 0 to 6.6% and 16.8% to 31.8%, respectively. We found the male genitalia of Anaplecta to exhibit intraspecific variation, especially in the phallomeres.

Brephallus Wang et al., gen. n. is established as a genus distinct from Pseudophoraspis Kirby, 1903 because of the lack of a well-developed apical outgrowth on sclerite L2D and substantial genetic differences. Two species are transferred to the new genus from Pseudophoraspis, i.e., Brephallus fruhstorferi (Shelford, 1910), comb. n. and Brephallus tramlapensis (Anisyutkin, 1999), comb. n. We provide a detailed generic diagnosis of Brephallus Wang et al., gen. n. Based on COI data, males, females and nymphs of three Pseudophoraspis species (P. clavellata Wang et al., 2013, P. recurvata Wang et al., 2013 and P. kabakovi Anisyutkin, 1999) were successfully matched. The former two are sexually dimorphic with macropterous males and micropterous females. Photos of the species from China are presented.

The cockroach genus Eucorydia from China is revised. Five new species are described and illustrated: Eucorydia linglong sp. n., Eucorydia pilosa sp. n., Eucorydia splendida sp. n., Eucorydia guilinensis sp. n., and Eucorydia tangi sp. n.. Corydia purpuralis Kirby, 1903 and Eucorydia paucipilosa Woo, Guo & Feng, 1986 are confirmed to be junior synonyms of Eucorydia dasytoides (Walker, 1868). Eucorydia hilaris (Kirby, 1903) is newly recorded from China. This genus and currently known species from around the world are discussed. The status of Eucorydia maxwelli (Hanitsch, 1915) is revived. Corydia plagiata Walker, 1868 is confirmed to be a junior synonym of Eucorydia ornata (Saussure, 1864). A checklist, key, and photographs of members of this genus are provided.

Abstract Cockroaches are among the most recognizable of all insects. In addition to their role as pests, they play a key ecological role as decomposers. Despite numerous studies of cockroach phylogeny in recent decades, relationships among most major lineages are yet to be resolved. Here we examine phylogenetic relationships among cockroaches based on five genes (mitochondrial 12S rRNA, 16S rRNA, COII; nuclear 28S rRNA and histone H3), and infer divergence times on the basis of 8 fossils. We included in our analyses sequences from 52 new species collected in China, representing 7 families. These were combined with data from a recent study that examined these same genes from 49 species, resulting in a significant increase in taxa analysed. Three major lineages, Corydioidea, Blaberoidea, and Blattoidea were recovered, the latter comprising Blattidae, Tryonicidae, Lamproblattidae, Anaplectidae, Cryptocercidae and Isoptera. The estimated age of the split between Mantodea and Blattodea ranged from 204.3 Ma to 289.1 Ma. Corydioidea was estimated to have diverged 209.7 Ma (180.5–244.3 Ma 95% confidence interval [CI]) from the remaining Blattodea. The clade Blattoidea diverged from their sister group, Blaberoidea, around 198.3 Ma (173.1–229.1 Ma). The addition of the extra taxa in this study has resulted in significantly higher levels of support for a number of previously recognized groupings.

Cockroaches are one of the major decomposers involved in biogeochemical cycles. Cockroaches have an amazing amount of diversity, but most of them remain unknown due to the shortage of the trained taxonomists and the limitations of morphology-based identification. We obtained 49 COI sequences (including 42 novel sequences) and 32 novel 28S sequences for 5 Sigmella morphospecies collected from 11 localities. Three are new to science: Sigmella digitalis sp. nov., Sigmella exserta sp. nov. and Sigmella normalis sp. nov. Based on four species delimitation methods (ABGD, GMYC, BINs and bPTP), a total of 6 molecular operational taxonomic units (MOTUs) were recovered for 5 morphospecies. These were then confirmed by tree building methods using COI and combined data (COI and 28S). We detected more than one MOTU in the morphospecies S. digitalis sp. nov., which can indicate genetic diversity. Detailed morphological evidence for each MOTU is provided to confirm these slight variations and we conclude that natural barriers are likely the main cause of genetic diversity.

One new species Panesthia guizhouensis sp. n. and one new subspecies Panesthia stellata concava ssp. n. are described and illustrated. The male of Panesthia antennata Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1893 and its brachypterous form are described and illustrated for the first time. Panesthia strelkovi Bey-Bienko, 1969 is redescribed and illustrated. Three known species, Panesthia birmanica Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1893, Panesthia sinuata Saussure, 1839 and Panesthia angustipennis cognata Bey-Bienko, 1969 are illustrated. In addition, a key to all species of the genus Panesthia from China is presented.

Three new species of Salganea Stål, 1877 are described and illustrated: S. quinquedentata sp. n., S. anisodonta sp. n. and S. flexibilis sp. n. S. taiwanensis Roth, 1979, S. guangxiensis (Feng & Woo, 1990), S. incerta (Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1893) and S. raggei Roth, 1979 are redescribed. Panesthia concinna Feng & Woo, 1990 is synonymized with S. taiwanensis Roth, 1979 and Panesthia guangxiensis Feng & Woo, 1990 is transferred to the genus Salganea for the first time. As well, a key to species from China is presented.

Three new species of Symploce Hebard from China are described: Symploce sphaerica sp. n., Symploce paramarginata sp. n. and Symploce evidens sp. n. Two known species are redescribed and illustrated based on types. A key is given to identify all species of Symploce from mainland China.

We collected Ectobiidae cockroach specimens from 44 locations in the south of the Yangtze valley. We obtained 297 COI sequences specimens and carried out phylogenetic and divergence dating analyses, as well as species delimitation analysis using a General Mixed Yule Coalescent (GMYC) framework. The intraspecific and interspecific sequence divergence in Ectobiidae cockroaches ranged from 0.0 to 7.0% and 4.6 to 30.8%, respectively. GMYC analysis resulted in 53 (confidence interval: 37-65) entities (likelihood ratio = 103.63) including 14 downloaded species. The COI GMYC groups partly corresponded to the ectobiid species and 52 ectobiid species were delimited successfully based on the combination of GMYC result with morphological information. We used the molecular data and 6 cockroach fossil calibrations to obtain a preliminary estimate of the timescale of ectobiid evolution. The major subfamilies in the group were found to have diverged between ~125-110 Ma, and morphospecies pairs were found to have diverged ~10 or more Ma.

Macrodarumoides petalinus, a new genus and species of Issidae (Hemiptera) are described based on specimens from Yunnan and Guangxi, China.

Abstract Somatic embryogenesis (SE) is a developmental process related to the regeneration of tissue-cultured plants, which serves as a useful technique for crop breeding and improvement. However, SE in cotton is difficult and elusive due to the lack of precise cellular level information on the reprogramming of gene expression patterns involved in somatic embryogenesis. Here, we investigate the spatial and single-cell expression profiles of key genes and the metabolic patterns of key metabolites by integrated single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq), spatial transcriptomics (ST), and spatial metabolomics (SM). To evaluate the results of these analyses, we functionally characterized the potential roles of two representative marker genes, AATP1 and DOX2, in the regulation of cotton somatic embryo development. A publicly available web-based resource database ( https://cotton.cricaas.com.cn/somaticembryo/ ) in this study provides convenience for future studies of the expression patterns of marker genes at specific developmental stages during the process of SE in cotton.

Abstract Background Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), with a high prevalence in rural northeastern China. This study assesses the cardiovascular risk associated with different blood pressure patterns: systolic dominant, diastolic dominant, and parallel elevation. Methods We analyzed data from the Northeast Rural Cardiovascular Health Study (NCRCHS), which included 8,189 participants aged 35 and above. Baseline surveys from 2012 to 2013 and follow-ups in 2015 and 2018 provided a median follow-up of 4.66 years. Participants were categorized into ten subgroups based on systolic and diastolic blood pressure elevations. Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox regression models were used to examine CVD incidence and cardiovascular risk across these groups. Results The incidence of CVD varied significantly among hypertension categories. Patients with grade 1 hypertension had no significant increase in cardiovascular risk at nearly 5 years. Notably, parallel elevations in systolic and diastolic pressures posed the highest cardiovascular risk, while a predominant rise in diastolic pressure alone did not significantly increase risk. This highlights the importance of analyzing blood pressure comprehensively for cardiovascular risk stratification and suggests rethinking treatment strategies for diastolic dominant hypertension. Conclusions Our findings call for a nuanced approach to cardiovascular risk assessment in hypertension, taking into account distinct patterns of systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The study supports personalized treatment interventions and reinforces current hypertension treatment guidelines. We advocate for prioritizing non-pharmacological management in grade 1 hypertension and further clinical evaluation of treatment thresholds for diastolic dominant hypertension.

Abstract Exploring the spatial pattern and its influencing mechanism of cultural heritage is of great significance for the systematic protection, inheritance and utilization of cultural heritage. In this study, the national-level cultural heritage of China as the research object, and the spatial patterns of the cultural heritage (CH), tangible cultural heritage (TCH) and intangible cultural heritage (ICH) are analyzed are summarized using the multiple geospatial analysis method, and their spatial distribution differences. Then, the optimal parameter geodetector model was further used to analyze the influencing and interaction effect of natural environment (NE) factors, socioeconomic and cultural environment (SCE) factors on the spatial distribution of CH, TCH and ICH, and the interaction mechanism was deeply discussed. The results show that high-density region of CH are mainly located in the southeastern Heihe-Tengchong Line of China, while low-density region are mostly located in the northwestern Heihe-Tengchong Line. In terms of local spatial differences, the spatial distribution of material cultural heritage is different in different river basins, different terrains and different climates. The spatial distribution of ICH mainly shows significant differences in terrain and climate, and does not show significant differences in river basins. In terms of influencing factors, sociocultural environment, education level, historical settlement environment, road traffic, climate, economy, population and terrain factors all have a significant impact on the spatial distribution of CH and TCH. Sociocultural environment, education level, historical settlement environment, road traffic, climate, economy and population have a significant impact on the spatial distribution of ICH, while topographic factors and water system factors have no significant impact on the spatial distribution of ICH. Compared with ICH, TCH is more likely to be directly affected by topographic conditions (altitude, relief of terrain) and hydrological conditions (production and living water sources and flood risk) during its formation stage. At the same time, topographic and hydrological conditions can also indirectly affect the spatial distribution of TCH by directly affecting human agricultural activities, economic activities and cultural activities.

Abstract Background Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a rapidly progressing blood cancer. The prognosis of AML can be challenging, emphasizing the need for ongoing research and innovative approaches to improve outcomes in individuals affected by this formidable hematologic malignancy. Methods In this study, we used single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) from AML patients to investigate the impact of L-glutamine metabolism-related genes on disease progression. Results Our analysis revealed increased glutamine-related activity in CD34 + pre-B cells, suggesting a potential regulatory role in tumorigenesis and AML progression. Furthermore, intercellular communication analysis revealed a significant signaling pathway involving macrophage migration inhibitory factor signaling through CD74 + CD44 within CD34 + pre-B cells, which transmit signals to pre-dendritic cells and monocytes. Ligands for this pathway were predominantly expressed in stromal cells, naïve T cells, and CD34 + pre-B cells. CD74, the pertinent receptor, was predominantly detected in a variety of cellular components, including stromal cells, pre-dendritic cells, plasmacytoid dendritic cells, and hematopoietic progenitors. The study’s results provide insights into the possible interplay among these cell types and their collective contribution to the pathogenesis of AML. Moreover, we identified 10 genes associated with AML prognosis, including CCL5, CD52, CFD, FABP5, LGALS1, NUCB2, PSAP, S100A4, SPINK2, and VCAN. Among these, CCL5 and CD52 have been implicated in AML progression and are potential therapeutic targets. Conclusions This thorough examination of AML biology significantly deepens our grasp of the disease and presents pivotal information that could guide the creation of innovative treatment strategies for AML patients.

Hydrangea macrophylla (Thunb.) Ser. is one of the widely cultivated plants in home gardens and scenic areas of China. Anthracnose disease is commonly observed during the normal growth of H. macrophylla, significantly impacting its ornamental and economic values. From 2021 to 2023, an investigation on H. macrophylla anthracnose was carried out in nine parks of Beijing, China, and a total of 114 Colletotrichum isolates were obtained from the diseased leaves with typical anthracnose symptoms. Based on morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis of six genomic loci including rDNA-ITS, ACT, TUB2, CAL, CHS-1, and GAPDH, these isolates were identified as belonging to six Colletotrichum species. Among which, C. gloeosporioides was the most abundant (65 isolates, 57.0%), followed by C. fructicola (33 isolates, 28.9%), C. aenigma (8 isolates, 7.0%), C. truncatum (4 isolates, 3.5%), C. subacidae (2 isolates, 1.8%) and C. sojae (2 isolates, 1.8%). Pathogenicity test conducted on detached leaves of H. macrophylla revealed a distinct variation in virulence among isolates from different Colletotrichum species, and wounding was either essential or conducive to successful infection. Specifically, C. gloeosporioides exhibited greater aggressiveness, resulting in larger lesions, while C. subacidae induced lesions most quickly. Fungicide sensitivity assays demonstrated that prochloraz exerted a remarkable inhibitory effect on the mycelial growth of representative isolates belonging to the three predominant Colletotrichum species. In contrast to difenoconazole and tebuconazole, the mean EC50 values for prochloraz against C. gloeosporioides, C. fructicola, and C. aenigma were 0.062, 0.033, and 0.023 μg/ml, respectively. This is the first report of C. aenigma, C. truncatum, C. subacidae and C. sojae causing H. macrophylla anthracnose worldwide including China. These findings have elucidated the Colletotrichum species associated with H. macrophylla anthracnose as well as their fungicides sensitivities in Beijing, China. This provides a scientific foundation for the accurate diagnosis and local management of H. macrophylla anthracnose.

Abstract Exploring the spatial coupling relationship and interaction mechanism between green urbanization (GU) and tourism competitiveness (TC) is of great significance for promoting urban sustainable development. However, the lack of research on the interaction mechanism between GU and TC limits the formulation of effective environmental management policy and urban planning. Taking 734 counties in the Yellow River Basin (YRB) as the study area, this paper analyzes the spatial coupling relationship between GU and TC on the basis of comprehensive evaluation of GU and TC. Then, the interactive mechanism between GU and TC is systematically discussed, and the synergistic development strategy of the two is proposed. The results show that the GU level presents a multicore circle structure, with provincial capitals, prefecture-level urban districts and economically developed counties in east-central regions as high-value centers. The TC at county scale presents a multi-center spatial structure. Additionally, there is a significant positive spatial coupling between GU and TC in the YRB. The analysis further reveals that green urbanization level, social progress, population development, infrastructure construction, economic development quality, and eco-environmental protection has a observably influence on TC. Tourism competitiveness, service competitiveness, location competitiveness, resource competitiveness, market competitiveness, environmental influence, and talent competitiveness has a observably influence on GU. TC can promote GU, and the improvement of green urbanization level can support the development of tourism competitiveness. According to the spatial zoning method, 734 counties are divided into 6 categories, and the coordinated development strategy of GU and TC for each type of district is proposed.

Abstract Background Bladder dysfunction, notably urinary retention, emerges as a significant complication for cervical cancer patients following radical hysterectomy, predominantly due to nerve damage, severely impacting their postoperative quality of life. The challenges to recovery include insufficient pelvic floor muscle training and the negative effects of prolonged postoperative indwelling urinary catheters. Intermittent catheterization represents the gold standard for neurogenic bladder management, facilitating bladder training, which is an important behavioral therapy aiming to enhance bladder function through the training of the external urethral sphincter and promoting the recovery of the micturition reflex. Nevertheless, gaps remain in current research regarding optimal timing for intermittent catheterization and the evaluation of subjective symptoms of bladder dysfunction. Methods Cervical cancer patients undergoing laparoscopic radical hysterectomy will be recruited to this randomized controlled trial. Participants will be randomly assigned to either early postoperative catheter removal combined with intermittent catheterization group or a control group receiving standard care with indwelling urinary catheters. All these patients will be followed for 3 months after surgery. The study’s primary endpoint is the comparison of bladder function recovery rates (defined as achieving a Bladder Function Recovery Grade of II or higher) 2 weeks post-surgery. Secondary endpoints include the incidence of urinary tract infections, and changes in urodynamic parameters, and Mesure Du Handicap Urinaire scores within 1 month postoperatively. All analysis will adhere to the intention-to-treat principle. Discussion The findings from this trial are expected to refine clinical management strategies for enhancing postoperative recovery among cervical cancer patients undergoing radical hysterectomy. By providing robust evidence, this study aims to support patients and their families in informed decision-making regarding postoperative bladder management, potentially reducing the incidence of urinary complications and improving overall quality of life post-surgery. Highlights Reduced graphene oxide/carbon foams (RGO/CFs) vdWs heterostructures are efficiently fabricated via a simple mixed-dimensional assembly strategy. Linkage effect of optimized impedance matching and enhanced dielectric loss abilities endows the excellent microwave absorption performances of RGO/CFs vdWs heterostructures. Multiple functions such as good corrosion resistance performances and outstanding thermal insulation capabilities can be integrated into RGO/CFs vdWs heterostructures.

Background: Increased stress among medical students in military college has been a challenge in the field of education. One approach to addressing stress reduction is mindfulness training. MBSR has been verified to improve the health status of different individuals. The aim of this study was to examine whether MBSR improves the psychological resilience, posttraumatic stress and posttraumatic growth of medical students in military college. Methods: MBSR was performed with students from a military medical university. A total of 372 students were surveyed by questionnaires, including the 10-item of Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, Posttraumatic Growth Inventory, PTSD Checklist for DSM-5, Satisfaction with Life Scale, and Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, before the intervention, after the intervention and one month later. A control group of students also answered the questionnaires at the three time points but did not participate in the MBSR intervention. Statistical analyses were performed using repeated-measures ANOVA. Results: The results suggest that the MBSR group experienced significant improvements in resilience, posttraumatic growth, life satisfaction, and mindful attention awareness scores, as well as significant reductions in depression, anxiety, and PTSD intrusive symptoms scores after the intervention. These results were not found in the control group. One month after the intervention, all of these variables showed varying degrees of maintenance effects in the MBSR group. Conclusion: The MBSR intervention was effective, as the medical students in military college in the MBSR group exhibited improvements in psychological resilience, posttraumatic growth, satisfaction with life and mindful attention awareness, depression, anxiety and intrusive symptoms.

Liriodendron, a relic genus from the Magnoliaceae family, comprises two species, L. tulipifera and L. chinense. L. tulipifera is distinguished by its extensive natural distribution in Eastern North America. Conversely, L. chinense is nearing endangerment due to its low regeneration rate. A pivotal aspect in the difference of these species involves terpenoids, which play crucial roles in plant growth and attracting pollinators. However, the complex molecular mechanisms underlying terpenoid roles in Liriodendron are not well understood. Terpene Synthases (TPS) genes are widely reported to play a role in terpenoid biosynthesis, hence, this study centers on TPS genes in Liriodendron spp. Employing multiple bioinformatics methods, a differential expression gene in L. tulipifera, LtuTPS32, was discerned for further functional analysis. Subcellular localization results reveal the involvement of LtuTPS32 in chloroplast-associated processes, hence participate in terpenoid biosynthesis within chloroplasts. Heterologous transformation of the LtuTPS32 gene into tobacco significantly elevates the levels of common terpenoid compounds, including chlorophyll, gibberellin, and carotenoids. Collectively, these findings not only underscore the role of the LtuTPS32 gene in the biosynthesis of terpenoids but also lay a foundation for future research on interspecific differences in Liriodendron.

The inclusions, microstructure evolution and impact toughness of the coarse-grained heat-affected zone (CGHAZ) of Al–Ti–Ca deoxidized shipbuilding steel plates with different Al contents after high-heat input welding of 400 kJ cm−1 are investigated. The characteristics of inclusions and their influence on the refinement of microstructure and impact toughness in CGHAZ was elucidated. Increasing the Al content from 0.016 wt% to 0.022 wt% and 0.043 wt% results in an increase in the average size of prior austenite grain and the brittle phase fractions, while decreasing the content of intragranular acicular ferrites (IAFs). The results of the thermodynamic calculations, high-temperature laser scanning confocal microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry all show that increasing the Al content can diminish the austenitic stable region, elevate the transition temperature from austenite to ferrite and suppress the nucleation of IAF. In the present steels, the IAF formation is successfully induced by the specific inclusions, namely Al2O3–CaO–Ti2O3–MnS(-CaS), in which the calcium aluminate inclusions are embedded with Ti-oxides and CaS–MnS precipitates. The effective inclusions have the number density of 93 mm−2 in 16Al steel and 27 mm−2 in 22Al steel, but they are rarely found in 43Al steel. On average, an effective inclusion can induce 3.4 IAFs in 16Al steel and 2.8 IAFs in 22Al steel. Thus, as the Al content increases from 0.016 wt% to 0.22 wt% and 0.043 wt%, the impact toughness of CGHAZ at −40 °C decreases from 134 J to 78 J and 24 J with the welding heat input of 400 kJ cm−1.

Abstract Background Deleterious BRCA1/2 (BRCA) mutation raises the risk for BRCA mutation-related malignancies, including breast, ovarian, prostate, and pancreatic cancer. Germline variation of BRCA exhibits substantial ethnical diversity. However, there is limited research on the Chinese Han population, constraining the development of strategies for BRCA mutation screening in this large ethnic group. Methods We profile the BRCA mutational spectrum, including single nucleotide variation, insertion/deletion, and large genomic rearrangements in 2,080 apparently healthy Chinese Han individuals and 522 patients with BRCA mutation-related cancer, to determine the BRCA genetic background of the Chinese Han population, especially of the East Han. Incident cancer events were monitored in 1,005 participants from the healthy group, comprising 11 BRCA pathogenic/likely pathogenic (PLP) variant carriers and 994 PLP-free individuals, including 3 LGR carriers. Results Healthy Chinese Han individuals demonstrated a distinct BRCA mutational spectrum compared to cancer patients, with a 0.53% (1 in 189) prevalence of pathogenic/likely pathogenic (PLP) variant, alongside a 3 in 2,080 occurrence of LGR. BRCA1 c. 5470_5477del demonstrated high prevalence (0.44%) in the North Han Chinese and penetrance for breast cancer. None of the 3 LGR carriers developed cancer during the follow-up. We calculated a relative risk of 135.55 (95% CI 25.07 to 732.88) for the development of BRCA mutation-related cancers in the BRCA PLP variant carriers (mean age 42.91 years, median follow-up 10 months) compared to PLP-free individuals (mean age 48.47 years, median follow-up 16 months). Conclusion The unique BRCA mutational profile in the Chinese Han highlights the potential for standardized population-based BRCA variant screening to enhance BRCA mutation-related cancer prevention and treatment.
