Abstract Due to the importance of medical students in the buildup of the health system and the influence of professional identity in their study, the aim of the study is to focus on the impact of academic satisfaction and professional identity on Chinese medical students during their career transformation, taking into consideration other factors that play a role in this relationship. 735 junior and senior medical university students from two training hospital were surveyed by using a cluster sampling method. The questionnaire included academic satisfaction scale, career transition psychological scale, simple coping style questionnaire and professional identity questionnaire. Pearson correlation and process plug-in model 6 were used for chain mediation analysis. The results show that in the career transition period, there is a direct relationship between academic satisfaction and career identity, and a chain intermediary relationship between academic satisfaction and self-confidence and coping style. In addition to our findings, we also assert that academic satisfaction has a direct impact on self-confidence and positive coping style in the transition period, and is a predictor of professional identity, whether directly or through the chain intermediary of self-confidence and coping style in the transition period. The results showed that academic satisfaction was sequentially associated with increased self-confidence, and then increased positive coping styles, which resulted in higher professional identity among medical students.

Abstract Research on the severity and prognosis of sepsis with or without progressive delirium is relatively insufficient. We constructed a prediction model of the risk factors for 28-day mortality in patients who developed sepsis or sepsis-associated delirium. The modeling group of patients diagnosed with Sepsis-3 and patients with progressive delirium of related indicators were selected from the MIMIC-IV database. Relevant independent risk factors were determined and integrated into the prediction model. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and the Hosmer–Lemeshow (HL) test were used to evaluate the prediction accuracy and goodness-of-fit of the model. Relevant indicators of patients with sepsis or progressive delirium admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a 3A hospital in Xinjiang were collected and included in the verification group for comparative analysis and clinical validation of the prediction model. The total length of stay in the ICU, hemoglobin levels, albumin levels, activated partial thrombin time, and total bilirubin level were the five independent risk factors in constructing a prediction model. The area under the ROC curve of the predictive model (0.904) and the HL test result (χ2 = 8.518) indicate a good fit. This model is valuable for clinical diagnosis and treatment and auxiliary clinical decision-making.

Abstract Background Burnout is very important to nurses’ physical and mental health and career development. Current approaches to assessing nurse burnout tend to use a total score modeling paradigm to explore the impact of external factors on burnout. The purpose of this study is to delve into the item-level relationship between nurse burnout and its influencing factors at both the social and psychological levels using a network analysis approach. Methods This study was conducted in June 2023 and 1,005 nurses from 4 hospitals out of 8 tertiary care hospitals in Harbin were selected to participate in this study using whole cluster sampling method. Measurements included a general demographic questionnaire, Trait coping styles questionnaire, Organizational commitment questionnaire, Work-family conflict scale, Transformational leadership questionnaire, and Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey. Results Our results suggest that “C1 Time-Based work interference with family” showed the strongest centrality and bridging in the overall network. This finding underscores its centrality to burnout. Other strongest bridge symptoms included “E2 Reduced personal accomplishment” and “A1 Positive coping styles” indicating their strongest connections to other clusters. Conclusions Nurse administrators should be encouraged to pay more attention to nurses’ work situations and family distress, and to help nurses in a flexible way.

Abstract Background The aims of the present study were to investigate the incidence of nurses who suffered anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic and to explore how expressive suppression influences the relationship between family function and anxiety. Methods This study used cross-sectional research and simple random sampling. A total of 300 questionnaires were distributed and 254 questionnaires were qualified after invalid questionnaires were proposed, thus a total of 254 female nurses from a tertiary hospital were included in this study. The measurement included General demographic questionnaires, the Self-Scale Anxiety, Scale (SAS), Emotion Regulation Strategies Questionnaire (ERQ), and Family Function Assessment (FAD). T-test, nonparametric Wilcoxon or Kruskal-Wallis test, χ2 test, Pearson or Spearman correlation analysis, multiple stepwise regression and bootstrap methods was performed to analyze the data. Results In this study, 22.4% of the nurses exhibited anxiety symptoms, with 17.7% eliciting mild anxiety symptoms, 4.3% showing moderate anxiety symptoms and 0.4% with severe anxiety symptoms. Family function and expressive suppression were positively associated with anxiety severity. And family function influenced anxiety among nurses via direct and indirect (Expressive suppression -mediated) pathways. Conclusions Expressive suppression partially mediated the influence of family function on anxiety symptom. To this end, nurse administrators should establish a robust mental health support system encompassing psychological counseling and emotional support groups. Furthermore, nurse administrators should consistently inquire about nurses’ family situations, encourage nurses to articulate their emotions and needs candidly, both within the domestic sphere and the workplace, while refraining from excessive self-repression.

ObjectivesAcademic satisfaction plays an important role in promoting the future careers of medical undergraduates. Therefore, it is of great significance to improve academic satisfaction by exploring its influencing factors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the serial multiple mediating role of life events, coping styles, anxiety, and academic satisfaction among Chinese medical students.MethodsIn this cross-sectional study, clinical medicine students from a medical university in Heilongjiang Province were surveyed using stratified random cluster sampling procedures. The questionnaires included the Adolescent Life Events Scale, the Simple Coping Style Questionnaire, the Self-rating Anxiety Scale, and the Academic Satisfaction Scale. Pearson’s correlation analysis and bootstrap analysis were used for statistical analysis.ResultsLife events were negatively related to positive coping styles and academic satisfaction and were positively related to anxiety symptoms. Positive coping styles were negatively associated with anxiety symptoms and positively associated with academic satisfaction. Anxiety symptoms were negatively associated with academic satisfaction. The serial multiple mediating role of positive coping style and anxiety in the relationship between life events and academic satisfaction was significant.ConclusionThe results showed that life events were sequentially associated with decreased positive coping styles and then increased anxiety, which resulted in reduced academic satisfaction among medical students.

ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to explore the key pathways leading to low quality of life in type 2 diabetes patients by means of network analysis, so as to provide the possibility of effective interventions.MethodsThe study involved 1,011 adult type 2 diabetes patients from a tertiary hospital in Harbin. Data was collected through questionnaires, and network analysis was performed using R software to assess the centrality and predictability of each node.Results“Depression” and “Submission” (weight = 0.26), “Depression” and “Physiological field” (weight = -0.16), exhibit the strongest associations. Overall, “Depression” has the highest weight in the association with diabetes symptom, regarding betweenness, “Depression” and “Submission” exhibit the highest scores, Furthermore, the analysis of closeness centrality reveals that “Depression” and “Submission” share the highest level of proximity, it suggests that they have the shortest distances to other network factors in our research network.ConclusionDepression and Submission are likely to be key factors affecting the quality of life of people with diabetes. Providing psychological support and scientific coping strategies for diabetes patients may be an effective way to help them live a better life.

Adding far-red (FR) photons to a constant photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) alters photosynthesis, leaf morphology, and biomass accumulation of horticultural plants. However, the influences of partially substituting PPFD with FR photons under the same extended PPFD (ePPFD) on the growth of greenhouse lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is still unknown. In this study, loose-leaf lettuce (‘Dasusheng’) grown in a greenhouse in the fall was implemented using six supplementary light treatments including white plus red (WR) LEDs with substitutive FR photon flux density at 0, 10, 30, 50, 70, and 90 µmol·m−2·s−1 under the same ePPFD (WR139, WR129+FR10, WR109+FR30, WR89+FR50, WR69+FR70, and WR49+FR90, respectively). Lettuce grown with natural light only was designated as NL. The results indicated that supplementary light led to lower plant height, thicker leaves, higher biomass accumulation, higher vitamin C content, higher starch content, and higher total soluble sugar content in lettuce compared with those of lettuce grown under NL. Lettuce grown under WR139 resulted in a 40.0% decrease in plant height, 66.8% increase in leaf thickness, and 34.1% increase in shoot fresh weight compared with those of lettuce grown under NL. No significant differences were observed in leaf width, specific leaf area, shoot fresh weight, root fresh weight, shoot dry weight, root dry weight, soil plant analysis development value, apparent quantum yield, soluble protein content, and light use efficiency of lettuce among the WR139, WR129+FR10, and WR109+FR30 treatments. Furthermore, decreased trends were observed in the biomass accumulation and maximum net photosynthetic rate of lettuce with the increased substituted FR photon flux density. However, an opposite trend was found in the maximum photochemical quantum yield. In conclusion, partially substituting PPFD with FR photons at 10 to 30 μmol·m−2·s−1 had similar effects on the biomass accumulation and nutritional quality of greenhouse lettuce. The FR photons should be applied with the consideration of photon flux density because the results also demonstrated negative effects of excess substituted FR photons for PPFD.

Two eggplant cultivars (Brigitte and Dalong) were stored under ambient conditions for 8 days to examine the postharvest quality and shelf life. Results indicated that the respiration rate, firmness and springiness, and nutritional quality of both eggplant cultivars decreased with the extension of shelf life. On the contrary, opposite trends were observed in weight loss, gumminess, and chewiness of eggplant fruits. In addition, the weight loss of ‘Brigitte’ eggplant fruits was 3.3% and 6.9% lower compared with ‘Dalong’ eggplant fruits at 4 and 8 days after storage. Thicknesses of epidermal cells and the stratum corneum, the epicuticular wax content of ‘Brigitte eggplant fruits increased by 42.9%, 766.7%, and 58.8% compared with ‘Dalong’ eggplant fruits, respectively, with a concomitant increase in the dense wax layer structure. In conclusion, the storage tolerance of ‘Brigitte’ eggplant fruits was higher than that of ‘Dalong’ eggplant fruits due to the higher epicuticular wax content and dense wax layer structure.

Ophiorrhiza reflexa, a new species from Guangxi, China, is described and illustrated in this study. It is morphologically similar to O. alatiflora due to the branched inflorescence, distylous flowers and the tubular-funnelform corolla with five longitudinal wings. The new species can be distinguished from O. alatiflora by its erect inflorescence, its smaller and equal-sized calyx lobes 0.5–0.7 mm long, its corolla tubes winged to the middle and the wings straight and its strongly reflexed corolla lobes at anthesis. Ophiorrhiza reflexa is assessed as least concern (LC) according to IUCN Categories and Criteria.

Abstract Objective This study aimed to assess the incidence and clinical significance of pneumothorax (PTX) and pulmonary hemorrhage (PH) after percutaneous transthoracic lung biopsy (PTLB) guided by C-arm cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Furthermore, this study aimed to examine the relationships between PTX and PH with demographics, clinical characteristics, imaging, and PTLB parameters. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 192 patients who underwent PTLB at our hospital between January 2019 and October 2022. Incidences of PTX and PH were recorded. PTX was considered clinically significant if treated with chest tube insertion (CTI), and PH if treated with bronchoscopes or endovascular treatments. The various factors on PTX and PH were analyzed using the Chi-squared test and Student t-test. Logistic regression analyses were then used to determine these factors on the correlation to develop PTX and PH. Results PTX occurred in 67/192 cases (34.9%); CTI was required in 5/67 (7.5%). PH occurred in 63/192 cases (32.8%) and none of these cases required bronchoscopes or endovascular treatments. Lesion diameter (ORPTX = 0.822; ORPH = 0.785), presence of pulmonary emphysema (ORPH = 2.148), the number of samples (ORPH = 1.834), the use of gelfoam (ORPTX = 0.474; ORPH = 0.341) and ablation (ORPTX = 2.351; ORPH = 3.443) showed statistically significant correlation to PTX and PH. Conclusions CBCT-guided PTLB is a safe and effective method for performing lung biopsies. The use of gelfoam has been shown to reduce the occurrence of PTX and PH. However, caution should be exercised when combining radiofrequency ablation with PTLB, as it may increase the risk of PTX and PH.

The concentration of nitrogen fertilizer is matched with the nutrient requirements in different growth stages of plants, which coordinates their vegetative and reproductive growth. In this study, the influences of nitrogen concentration before and after initiation of flower bud differentiation (first and second stage, respectively) on pepper seedling quality were studied. The chlorophyll a content, sucrose synthase activity, and sucrose phosphate synthase activity of pepper seedlings grown under moderate nitrogen (15 mmol L−1) in the first stage combined with high nitrogen (25.61 mmol L−1) in the second stage were 15.7%, 39.3%, and 34.6% higher than those of the same nitrogen concentration (15 mmol L−1) in the first and second stages treatment, respectively. The regression model also showed that the values of flower bud diameter, shoot fresh weight, root fresh weight, and glutamine synthetase activity of pepper were high under the condition of moderate nitrogen in the first stage and higher nitrogen in the second stage. In addition, the results of comprehensive evaluation showed that moderate nitrogen (15 mmol L−1) in the first stage and high nitrogen (25.61 mmol L−1) in the second stage treatment ranked first, which improved carbon and nitrogen metabolism, increased biomass accumulation, and promoted the flower bud differentiation and flowering of pepper seedlings.

Previous experimental results show that the poloidal mode spacing of the filamentary structures increases and the dominant toroidal mode number decreases in the edgelocalized mode (ELM) rising phase with increasing plasma current. In addition, the experimental results in this paper show that the energy loss ratio of the pedestal (ΔW/Wped) decreases as the edge safety factor (q95) increases. The BOUT++ three-field two-fluid model can reproduce the experimental results and provide a possible explanation mechanism. The pedestal density plays an important role in the characteristics of filamentary structures as the current ramps up. On the one hand, the resistivity related to the pedestal density drives the instability of the peeling–ballooning mode, and the resistive effect is stronger in the high current case, making the dominant toroidal mode number lower and the corresponding poloidal mode spacing wider in the high current case. A low q95 corresponds to a high pedestal collision rate and a high pedestal energy loss ratio. On the other hand, the ELM crash process is dominated by resistivity, so the ratio of pedestal energy loss caused by ELM is not inversely proportional to the pedestal collision rate.

Abstract Background The relationship between the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, which is a traumatic event for adolescents, and procrastination is not clear. Mental health may play an important role in this relationship; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. This study aimed to construct chain mediation models to examine whether anxiety and depression symptoms mediate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on procrastination in adolescents. Methods A convenience sample of 12 middle and high schools in Harbin, China, with four follow-up online surveys was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 4,156 Chinese adolescents were enrolled in this study, of whom ages 11–18 (Mean = 13.55; SD = 1.18), 50.75% were male, and 93.24% were middle school students. Descriptive demographic analysis and Pearson’s correlation analysis of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic (T1), anxiety(T2), depression (T3), and procrastination (T4) were performed in SPSS 22.0. Adding far-red (FR, 700–800 nm) light to photosynthetic active radiation (400–700 nm) proved to be a possible approach to increasing plant biomass accumulation for lettuce production in indoor vertical farms with artificial lighting as a sole-source lighting. However, how FR light addition influences plant growth, development, and metabolic processes and the optimal value of FR photon flux density for greenhouse-grown lettuce under sunlight are still unclear. This work aims to quantify the value of supplementary FR light with different intensities on lettuce morphological and physiological characteristics in a greenhouse. Lettuce ‘Dasusheng’ (Lactuca sativa L.) was grown in a greenhouse under seven light treatments, including white plus red LEDs with FR photon flux density at 0, 10, 30, 50, 70, and 90 µmol m−2 s−1 (WR, WR + FR10, WR + FR30, WR + FR50, WR + FR70, and WR + FR90, respectively), and lettuce grown with sunlight only was marked as natural light (NL). FR light addition improved the electron transport flux per cross section and performance index (PIabs, PItotal) and decreased the changes in relative variable fluorescence of lettuce leaves compared to plants under NL. Specifically, the PIabs of lettuce leaves were 41%, 41%, 38%, 33%, 26%, and 25% lower under control than in plants under treatments WR + FR90, WR + FR70, WR + FR50, WR + FR30, WR + FR10, and WR, respectively. Leaf number, leaf area, and biomass accumulation of lettuce followed a quadratic function with increasing FR light intensity and were the highest under treatment WR + FR50. The shoot fresh weight and dry weight of lettuce were increased by 111% and 275%, respectively, under treatment WR + FR50 compared to NL. The contents of vitamin C, reducing sugar, total soluble sugar, and starch in lettuce showed a similar trend with biomass accumulation. In conclusion, with commonly used photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD, 400–700 nm) around 200 μmol m−2 s−1, supplementary FR light intensity of 30~50 μmol m−2 s−1 was suggested to enhance the photochemistry efficiency, biomass accumulation, and carbohydrates’ contents in greenhouse-grown lettuce.

Abstract Background The human gut microbiota (GM) is involved in the pathogenesis of hypertension (HTN), and could be affected by various factors, including sex and geography. However, available data directly linking GM to HTN based on sex differences are limited. Methods This study investigated the GM characteristics in HTN subjects in Northwestern China, and evaluate the associations of GM with blood pressure levels based on sex differences. A total of 87 HTN subjects and 45 controls were recruited with demographic and clinical characteristics documented. Fecal samples were collected for 16S rRNA gene sequencing and metagenomic sequencing. Results GM diversity was observed higher in females compared to males, and principal coordinate analysis showed an obvious segregation of females and males. Four predominant phyla of fecal GM included Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria and Proteobacteria. LEfSe analysis indicated that phylum unidentified_Bacteria was enriched in HTN females, while Leuconostocaceae, Weissella and Weissella_cibaria were enriched in control females (P

ObjectiveTo explore the prevalence and influencing factors of anxiety emotion among Chinese adolescents during a major public health emergency (PHE) for providing evidence to the development of appropriate intervention strategies. MethodsAn online self-administered survey via Sojump platform was conducted among 208 433 adolescents (16 – 22 years old) in 34 provincial level administrative divisions across China during March 2020. A self-designed questionnaire and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) were adopted in the study. ResultsAmong the 170 830 participants with valid responses, 40 448 (23.7%) were identified as having anxiety emotion during the major PHE; of the participants with anxiety emotion, 80.2% (32 458), 14.5% (5 878), and 5.3% (2 152) were assessed as having mild, moderate, and severe anxiety, respectively. Unconditional multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed following risk factors for having anxiety emotion during the major PHE among the adolescents: female gender, living in a region affected by an ongoing major PHE with more than 100 reported cases, with trauma history, and being affected directly or indirectly by the major PHE but not being a confirmed disease case; whereas, having a fair or good relationship with family members and usually with a general or stable emotion before the major PHE were protective factors against anxiety emotion during the PHE. ConclusionDuring the period of a major PHE among Chinese adolescents, the prevalence of anxiety emotion was relatively low and mainly affected by gender, the number of confirmed disease cases within a residential area, relationship with family members, trauma history, and impact severity of the major PHE.

Abstract The dendritic cell (DC)‐T cell axis is a bridge that connects innate and adaptive immunities. The initial immune response against tumors is mainly induced by mature antigen‐presenting DCs. Enhancing the crosstalk between DCs and T cells may be an effective approach to improve the immune response to non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In this article, a review was made of the interaction between DCs and T cells in the treatment of NSCLC and how this interaction affects the treatment outcome.

ObjectiveTo objectively evaluate the efficacy of the Zilongjin tablets in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and to explore its potential mechanism of action against NSCLC and COVID-19 based on network pharmacology.MethodsThe database was searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of the Zilongjin tablets for NSCLC published up to 22 August 2022. The quality of included trials was assessed using Cochrane standard guidelines, and a meta-analysis was performed using Rev Man 5.3. Gene targets for intersections of NSCLC and COVID-19 (the NC) and drugs were obtained from the TCMSP database, HERB database, GeneCards database, and the NCBI database for network pharmacology research.ResultsMeta-analysis included 14 articles with 2,430 patients. The meta-analysis showed that the Zilongjin tablets combined with conventional chemotherapy were significantly more effective than chemotherapy alone in the treatment of NSCLC. A total of 29 drug-disease intersecting targets were identified in the network pharmacology. The “ingredient-target-pathway” diagram component-target-pathway network contained 119 nodes and 429 edges, with the majority of targets associated with inflammatory responses.ConclusionThe efficacy and quality of life of the Zilongjin tablets combined conventional chemotherapy for NSCLC were significantly better than chemotherapy alone, alleviating various adverse effects. At the same time, the Zilongjin tablets may modulate the inflammatory response to alleviate NSCLC and COVID-19.

BackgroundDespite the growing attention given to adolescent behavior problems, little is known about the trajectories and factors that have influenced adolescent procrastination during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study monitors changes in procrastination behavior among Chinese adolescents during the pandemic and identifies vulnerable groups.MethodsA four-wave study using a representative sample of 11-to 18-year-olds in China was conducted, with baseline data collected in June 2020 (n = 4,156; 49% girls) and follow-ups in December 2020 (n = 3,392; 50% girls), August 2021 (n = 2,380; 48% girls), and October 2021 (n = 1,485; 49% girls). Procrastination behavior was assessed using the General Procrastination Scale. Latent growth curve models, latent growth mixture modes, and multivariate logistic regression models were used to describe the trajectory of procrastination and identify predictors of deterioration.ResultsThe proportion and overall trends of adolescent procrastination increased with the pandemic. Higher parental over-protection was a contributing factor to the higher baseline levels leading to the faster growth of adolescent procrastination. The model identified three distinct trajectories of low-increasing [including 2,057 participants (49.5%)], moderate-stable [including 1,879 participants (45.2%)], and high-decreasing procrastination [including 220 participants (5.3%)]. More daily leisure screen-time, lower frequency of exercise weekly, and dissatisfaction with distance learning were the top three risk factors for moderate-stable and high-decreasing procrastination compared to low-increasing procrastination. Adolescents with mothers with a higher level of education were more liable to be high-decreasing procrastination than moderate-stable procrastination.ConclusionThe proportion and overall trends of adolescent procrastination increased with the pandemic. The categories of procrastination among adolescents during that time period were probed. Also, the study further clarified the risk factors for severe and moderate procrastination relative to no procrastination. Thus, effective procrastination prevention and intervention strategies need to be implemented to support adolescents, particularly those at risk.

A colovesical fistula is a pathological communication between the colon and bladder. The symptoms include pneumaturia, fecaluria, and a lower urinary tract infection. The diagnosis is based on clinical symptoms, but the symptoms are not specific. Therefore, confirming the diagnosis is challenging. Urine cultures performed in patients with colovesical fistulas usually show growth of Escherichia coli or mixed growth of bowel organisms. Urinary tract infections caused by Lactococcus lactis are very rare, as it is rarely considered pathogenic in humans. We report the case of a 70-year-old woman who presented with symptoms of a recurrent urinary tract infection. Urine cultures were positive for L. lactis. Abdominopelvic computed tomography (CT) revealed focal thickening of the bladder wall and gas in the bladder. Cystoscopic examination and colonoscopy revealed sigmoid colon cancer and a sigmoido-vesical fistula. Laparoscopic surgical treatment was done. The patient recovered and was discharged 3 weeks later without chemoradiotherapy. On follow-up after 6 months, the patient was asymptomatic and stable. To our knowledge, this is the second reported case of L. lactis infection of the urinary tract and the first reported case in adults. L. lactis infection usually indicates the presence of serious underlying diseases such as malignancies, uncontrolled diabetes, and organ failure.

Abstract Stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED) can be used as a potential clinical material. But the use of xenogeneic ingredients will increase the risk of zoonotic disease transmission. Human platelet lysate (HPL) is a potential surrogate and used in human cell expansion with reliability in clinical applications. In this study, we synthesized chitosan/gelatin/gellan gum hydrogel supplemented with HPL and investigated the effect of 3D culture for SHED. TMT-tagged proteomics was used to decipher the secretome protein profiles of SHEDs and a total of 3209 proteins were identified, of which 23 were up-regulated and 192 were down-regulated. The results showed that hydrogel supplemented with HPL promoted SHED proliferation. After induction, the hydrogel coating contributed to osteogenic differentiation, adipogenic differentiation and differentiation into neural-like cells of SHED. SHED encapsulated in a hydrogel promotes migration and angiogenesis of HUVEC. In conclusion, our research found that hydrogel supplemented with HPL can be used as a method for SHED in standardized production and can contribute to the clinical application of SHED in cell therapy.

Light is a crucial environmental signal and a form of photosynthetic energy for plant growth, development, and nutrient formation. To explore the effects of light quality on the growth and nutritional qualities of greenhouse-grown lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.), lettuce was cultivated under supplementary white (W) light-emitting diodes (LEDs); white plus ultraviolet A LEDs (W+UV); white plus far-red LEDs (W+FR); and the combination of white, far-red, and UV-A LEDs (W+FR+UV) for 25 days, with lettuce grown under natural sunlight used as the control. The results indicate that the leaf length and leaf width values for lettuce grown under the W+FR+UV treatment were significantly higher than those of lettuce grown under other supplementary light treatments. The highest values of shoot fresh weight, shoot dry weight, root fresh weight, and root dry weight were recorded under the W+FR treatment (4.0, 6.0, 8.0, and 12.4 times higher than those under the control treatment, respectively). Lettuce grown under the W+FR treatment exhibited the highest total chlorophyll content (39.1%, 24.6%, and 16.2% higher than that under the W, W+UV, and W+FR+UV treatments, respectively). The carotenoid content of lettuce grown under the W+FR treatment was the highest among all treatments. However, the root activity of greenhouse-grown lettuce was the highest under the W+FR+UV treatment. Soluble sugar content, cellulose content, and starch content in the lettuce responded differently to the light treatments and were highest under the W+UV treatment. In summary, supplementary light promoted growth and nutrient accumulation in lettuce. Specifically, white plus far-red light promoted lettuce growth, and white plus UV increased some specific compounds in greenhouse-grown lettuce. Our findings provide valuable references for the application of light-supplementation strategies to greenhouse lettuce production.

Lighting strategies for morphological and physiological characteristics of horticultural crops often focus on the proper daily light integral (DLI); however, a suitable combination of photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) and photoperiod at the same DLI is conducive to optimize the light environment management in vegetable seedling production. In the present study, cucumber seedlings (Cucumis sativus L. cv. Tianjiao No. 5) were grown for 21 days under six different combinations of PPFD and photoperiod at a constant DLI of 11.5 mol⋅m−2⋅d−1, corresponding to a photoperiod of 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, and 22 h⋅d−1 provided by white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) under a controlled environment. Results showed that plant height, hypocotyl length, and specific leaf area of cucumber seedlings decreased quadratically with increasing photoperiod, and the opposite trend was observed in seedling quality index of cucumber seedlings. In general, pigment content and fresh and dry weight of cucumber seedlings increased as photoperiod increased from 7 to 16 h⋅d−1, and no significant differences were found in fresh and dry weight of shoot and root as photoperiod increased from 16 to 22 h⋅d−1. Sucrose and starch content of cucumber leaves increased by 50.6% and 32.3%, respectively, as photoperiod extended from 7 to 16 h⋅d−1. A longer photoperiod also led to higher cellulose content of cucumber seedlings, thus improving the mechanical strength of cucumber seedlings for transplanting. CsCesA1 relative expression level showed a trend similar to cellulose content. We propose that CsCesA1 is the key gene in the response to cellulose biosynthesis in cucumber seedlings grown under different combinations of PPFD and photoperiod. In summary, prolonging the photoperiod and lowering PPFD at the same DLI increased the quality of cucumber seedlings. An adaptive lighting strategy could be applied to increase seedling quality associated with the reduction of capital cost in cucumber seedling production.

Atmospheric pressure cold plasmas are widely used in the biomedical field as evidenced by developments in recent years. In this study, a quartz tube-guided gas–liquid two-phase discharge has been configured with a hollow needle-water structure. The power source for the device was sinusoidal, and switching between a gas–liquid miscible discharge and a pure gaseous discharge was simple. It was discovered that the gas–liquid discharge was beneficial in terms of reactant species generation and reaction efficiency in terms of processing water. The types of particles, the physicochemical properties, and the concentrations of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species in the discharge were studied spectroscopically. The discharge was discovered to have high levels of H2O2 and NO2−, and the activated water was proven to be effective at sterilizing samples that were contaminated with micro-organisms. Key experimental parameters including the driving voltage and the air flow rate were optimized to achieve the best sterilization conditions. The membrane potential changes in the treated bacteria were also studied to explore the causes of bacterial inactivation. The results showed that the device exhibited a strong bactericidal effect for the gas–liquid mixed phase discharge operating at 17 kV for 5 min with a gas flow rate of 0.3 SLM. In addition, the present device offers enhanced sterilization efficiency relative to the efficiency of conventional plasma sterilization equipment and, therefore, has a wide range of applications.

BackgroundIt is well known that the medical profession is a high-risk practice, with intense work and complex situations. The physicians are prone to suffer from depression due to occupational stress under high workloads for long periods of time. Depression not only impairs physicians’ mental health, but also affects the quality of health services, so it is important to explore the factors and mechanisms affecting depression among physicians.MethodsIn this cross-sectional study, 1,139 physicians from Heilongjiang Province were surveyed by cluster sampling procedures. The questionnaires included Psychological Capital Questionnaire, Chinese Employee Organizational Commitment Questionnaire, Trait Coping Style Questionnaire and Self-rating Depression Scale. Pearson correlation analysis and Bootstrap were used for statistical analysis.ResultsThis study found that 41.6% of physicians suffering from depression. Among them, 17.0% of physicians showed moderate depression, and 2.6% of physicians exhibited severe depression. The serial-multiple mediation of organizational commitment and positive coping styles in the relationship between psychological capital and depression was significant.ConclusionThe results showed that the psychological capital was sequentially associated with increased organizational commitment, and then increased positive coping styles, which resulted in reduced depression among physicians.

PurposeCardiovascular events and coronary plaque vulnerability are linked to Type D personality. However, the fundamental mechanism has not been clarified. Our study determined to illustrate whether inflammatory status in plasma, in combination with kynurenine pathway activity in Type D individuals, is associated with plaque vulnerability and cardiovascular events in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD).Materials and methodsThe Type D personality of 177 CAD patients were evaluated. Plasma biomarkers of inflammation (TNF-α, IL-6, and hs-CRP) were measured and pooled into standardized sumscores. Tryptophan and kynurenine metabolites were measured, and the kynurenine/tryptophan ratio (KTR) was calculated. Plaque vulnerability was measured in vivo by optical coherence tomography. All patients had a follow up of 2 years in which cardiovascular adverse events were recorded.ResultsType D individuals exhibited elevated TNF-α (p = 0.007), IL-6 (p = 0.049), inflammation sumscores (p = 0.002), kynurenine (p = 0.008), and KTR (p = 0.005) than non-Type D group. The serial-multiple mediation showed that the Type D personality with a direct, favorable impact on plaque vulnerability, including thin cap fibroatheroma (TCFA) (point estimate = 0.81; 95% CI = 0.09–1.53), macrophages (point estimate = 0.79; 95% CI = 0.05–1.51), and major adverse cardiac events (MACE) (point estimate = 0.88, 95% CI = 0.08–1.70). In addition, the standardized inflammation sumscores and KTR were mediators of the Type D personality associations with TCFA, macrophages and MACE.ConclusionThese results demonstrated that the connection between Type D personality and poor cardiovascular outcomes in CAD patients can be mediated by pro-inflammatory biomarkers and KTR.

BackgroundCOVID-19 has impacted adolescents' interpersonal relationships, life attitudes, and mental health during the past 3 years. However, previous studies predominantly focused on negative problems, while few studies assessed the situation of teenagers from the perspective of positive psychology. Therefore, this study explores the creativity level of Chinese college students during the COVID-19 pandemic, the relationship between sleep quality and creativity, and the mediating role of executive function.MethodA cross-sectional study was conducted across six colleges in Heilongjiang in China, with a sample of 4,258 college students recruited via stratified cluster sampling. Data were collected through an online survey. A mediation model was constructed, and SPSS PROCESS macro was used to analyze the data.ResultsThe creativity score of Chinese college students during the COVID-19 pandemic was 106.48 ± 13.61. Correlation analysis demonstrated that sleep quality correlated negatively with creativity (r = −0.08, P < 0.01) but positively with executive function (r=0.45, P < 0.01), whilst executive function correlated negatively with creativity (r = −0.10, P < 0.01). Moreover, the mediation model revealed that executive function partially mediated the relationship between sleep quality and creativity in college students (indirect effect = −0.017, SE = 0.004, 95% CI = [−0.025, −0.008]). Executive function accounted for 48.6% of the variance in college students' creativity.ConclusionSchool administrators should implement measures such as sleep education to enhance students' sleep quality. Concurrently, curriculum and assessment implementation should enhance executive function. Such measures can contribute to improved student creativity, thus helping students overcome the negative emotional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently, there is no sensitive prognostic biomarker to screen out benefit patients from the non-benefit population in advanced non-small cell lung cancer patients (aNSCLCs). The 435 aNSCLCs and 278 normal controls (NCs) were recruited. The percentages and absolute counts (AC) of circulating naïve and memory T lymphocytes of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells (Tn/Tm) were measured by flow cytometry. The percentage of CD4+ naïve T (Tn), CD8+ Tn, CD8+ T memory stem cell (Tscm), and CD8+ terminal effector T cell decreased obviously. Still, all AC of Tn/Tm of aNSCLCs was significantly lower compared to NCs. Higher AC and percentage of CD4+ Tn, CD8+ Tn, and CD4+ Tscm showed markedly longer median PFS in aNSCLCs. Statistics demonstrated the AC of CD4+ Tn (≥ 3.7 cells/μL) was an independent protective factor for PFS. The analysis of the prognosis of immunotherapy showed the higher AC and percentage of CD4+ Tn and CD4+ Tscm and higher AC of CD8+ Tscm had significantly longer median PFS and the AC of CD4+ Tn (≥ 5.5 cells/μL) was an independent protective factor for PFS. Moreover, higher AC and percentages of Tn/Tm suggested higher disease control rate and lower progressive disease rate. The AC of Tn/Tm showed more regular patterns of impairment and was more relative with the disease progression than percentages in aNSCLCs. AC had a better predictive value than percentages in Tn/Tm for PFS. Notably, the AC of CD4+ Tn was a potential prognostic biomarker for the PFS and efficacy of immunotherapy.

The pathology of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is complex and heterogeneous, and there are currently no drugs that can stop its progression. The failure of traditional chemical small-molecule drug development showed the weakness of single target and made researchers look to cell therapy with multiple regulatory effects. Stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED) are a kind of neural crest-derived mesenchymal stem cells which have broad prospects in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. In this study, we demonstrated the therapeutic effects of SHED in AD mice, including behavioral improvement, neuronal protection, and alleviation of neuroinflammation. Tracking experiments on SHED showed that some of the transplanted cells could enter the brain. To elucidate the role played by the majority of cells transplanted into veins, blood proteomic assays were performed. Data are available via ProteomeXchange with identifier PXD030313. Among the altered proteins, the PPAR pathway related to energy metabolism was considered to be an important signaling pathway involved in regulation through gene ontology analysis and pathway analysis. Western blot showed that the transplantation of SHED improved the glucose metabolism in AD mice by increasing the PPARγ signaling pathway. These results suggested that SHED have a potential in relieving AD pathological symptoms and improving behavioral cognition. The therapeutic mechanism of SHED is related to up-regulating PPARγ signaling pathway and reducing neuronal damage.

Background: Whether deep saturation diving causes injury to lung function remains controversial and the mechanism is unclear. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of a 500 m simulated single saturation dive on lung function.Methods: A retrospective study was performed in nine professional divers who spent 176 h in a high-pressure environment simulating a depth of 500-m saturation dive (51 atm, 5.02 Mpa). Pulmonary function parameters were investigated and compared before and on 3 days after the dive.Results: Nine professional divers aged (36 ± 7) years were enrolled. Three days after the dive, the parameters related to expiratory flow (forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1)/forced vital capacity (FVC)) were decreased; the parameters related to small airway function (forced expiratory flow at 50%, 75% of FVC exhaled and forced mid-expiratory flow) were decreased compared with those before the dive (both p < 0.05). Additionally, after the dive, the parameters related to pulmonary diffusion function were decreased compared with those before the dive (both p < 0.05). The parameters related to lung volume (residual volume, vital capacity and total lung volume) and those related to respiratory exertion (peak expiratory flow and forced expiratory flow at 75% of FVC exhaled) were not significantly different between after and before the dive. Two divers with small airway dysfunction before the dive had obstructive ventilatory dysfunction after the dive. Additionally, mild obstructive ventilatory dysfunction in three divers before the dive became severe after the dive. After a bronchial dilation test, five divers showed improvement of FEV1, which ranged from 0.10 to 0.55 L. Chest radiographs and echocardiography of all divers were normal after diving.Conclusion: 500 m simulated saturation diving induces a decrease in small airway function and diffusion function. This injury may be associated with small airway and diffusion membrane lesions.

Abstract Parkinson’s disease (PD), the second most common neurodegenerative disease worldwide, is caused by the loss of dopaminergic (DAergic) neurons in the substantia nigra resulting in a series of motor or non-motor disorders. Current treatment methods are unable to stop the progression of PD and may bring certain side effects. Cell replacement therapy has brought new hope for the treatment of PD. Recently, human dental tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells have received extensive attention. Currently, dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) and stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED) are considered to have strong potential for the treatment of these neurodegenerative diseases. These cells are considered to be ideal cell sources for the treatment of PD on account of their unique characteristics, such as neural crest origin, immune rejection, and lack of ethical issues. In this review, we briefly describe the research investigating cell therapy for PD and discuss the application and progress of DPSCs and SHED in the treatment of PD. This review offers significant and comprehensive guidance for further clinical research on PD.

To investigate the prevalence of post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSSs) and analyze the influencing factors of PTSS among adolescents in a large sample study during the COVID-19 pandemic, we did a cross-sectional study by collecting demographic data and mental health measurements from a large group of 175,318 adolescents in 32 Chinese provinces and autonomous regions, using the Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R) that was used to measure the PTSS of the participants. The results showed that the prevalence of PTSS was 35.7% in Chinese adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that, for the personal risk factors, the older age, female gender, the personality domains of extroversion, the irregular sleep schedule, the lack of aerobic exercise, and the lack of peer support were associated with the higher levels of PTSS. The family subjective and objective factors were associated with higher levels of PTSS. Our findings suggested that family factors are the most important factors that affect Chinese adolescents' PTSS due to the longtime home quarantine.

Temperature and light are the key factors that affect the quality of pumpkin rootstock seedlings’ growth process. Responses to temperature and light are an important basis for optimizing the greenhouse environment. In order to determine the quantitative effects of temperature and light on the growth and development of pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata cv. RTWM6018) rootstock seedlings, relationships between temperature, light, and pumpkin rootstock seedlings growth were established using regression analysis. The results indicated that the daily average temperature had a significant negative correlation with the development time of pumpkin rootstock seedlings, and the shoot dry weight of pumpkin rootstock seedlings increased within a certain range of the daily light integral (DLI). We established a prediction model of pumpkin rootstock seedling quality indicators (hypocotyl length, stem diameter, shoot dry weight, root dry weight, root shoot ratio, and seedling quality index) based on thermal effectiveness and photosynthetic photon flux density (TEP). The coefficient of determinations (R2) of the hypocotyl length and seedling quality index prediction models of pumpkin rootstock seedlings, based on accumulated TEP, were 0.707 and 0.834, respectively. The hypocotyl length and seedling quality index prediction models of pumpkin rootstock seedlings, based on accumulated TEP, were y1 = 0.001 x2 − 0.180 x + 13.057 and y2 = 0.008 x0.722, respectively, which could be used for predicting the growth of pumpkin rootstock seedlings grown under different temperature and light conditions.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic is a major public health emergency. However, little is known about the psychological impact of this pandemic on adolescents. We aim to assess the prevalence and influencing factors of depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic growth (PTG) among adolescents in a large sample study.Methods: This cross-sectional study collected demographic data and mental health measurements from 175,416 adolescents covering 31 provinces, centrally administered municipalities, and autonomous regions in mainland China from February 23 to March 8, 2020. The status of depression, anxiety, and PTG was assessed by the nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire, seven-item generalized anxiety disorder questionnaire, and post-traumatic growth inventory.Results: The prevalence of depression, anxiety, and PTG in adolescents was 35.9, 28.0, and 45.6%, respectively. The prevalence of depression and anxiety in the slight or severe epidemic areas was similar. Regression analysis showed that female sex and older age were associated with higher levels of depression, anxiety, and lower levels of PTG. Symptoms related to COVID-19, excessive attention to epidemic information, living in urban or severe epidemic areas, and conflicts with parents during home quarantine were risk factors for depression, anxiety, and PTG. Frequent communication with peers, exercise, and receiving public welfare psychological assistance were protective factors. Poor family economic status was a significant risk factor for depression and PTG.Conclusion: Our findings suggested that positive and negative psychological reactions coexist in adolescents faced with the pandemic. The factors associated with psychological problems and PTG provide strategic guidance for maintaining adolescents' mental health in China and worldwide during any pandemic such as COVID-19.

The I-PACE (interaction of person-affect-cognition-execution) model explains that the causes of addiction are the result of individual susceptibility (genetic and personality), psychopathological factors (negative emotions), and cognitive and affective factor interaction. The issue of smartphone addiction and its emerging effects are now becoming an essential social enigma. This study is aimed at exploring how personal, affective, cognitive, and execution factors accelerate the mechanism of smartphone addiction among international students. Randomly selected, six hundred international students have constituted the population for our study. All participants were asked to complete self-administered questionnaires. The questionnaire included demographics (gender, place of stay, educational level, and reason for smartphone usage), Mobile Phone Addiction Index, Loneliness Scale (UCLA), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, Perceived Stress Scale, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, and Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS. 20.3% (n = 122) of international students are agonized with smartphone addiction, while 79.7% (n = 478) use smartphones at an average level. Students’ place of stay, neuroticism personality, social desirability, self-esteem, loneliness, depression, perceived stress, and passive coping are associated with smartphone addiction. Loneliness and depression show a strong positive significant correlation, among other variables while loneliness, neurotic personality, depression, low self-esteem, stress, and passive coping are risk factors for smartphone addiction. This study reveals that international students are a high-risk group for smartphone addiction. It has a great deal of impact on students’ behavior and psyche. Multiple social, psychological, affective, and cognitive factors affect smartphone addiction. It would be beneficial to direct the students to limit their phone usage and indulge in other healthy physical activities to complete academic goals.

The problem that is addressed here is that of a circular thin plate clamped peripherally with frictionless contact to an elastic sphere. A complete and effective solution to this problem is developed to describe the relationship between the contact force and the relative penetration. Analysis of the contact stress and surface displacements of the plate and the sphere is carried out. Comparison of the results with the Hertz theory indicates that the former predicts relative penetration with more accuracy, which indicates that the Hertz theory is not applicable to the elastic sphere in contact with the circular thin plate with a large deformation. In addition, the results of the theoretical model show good agreement with the ANSYS simulation results.

Insufficient solar light in winter inside the greenhouse may lead to a lower quality of vegetable seedlings, and supplemental light is an effective technique to solve this problem. This study evaluated the impacts of supplementary white (W)-light-emitting diodes (LEDs), ultraviolet A LEDs (UV-A), white and blue LEDs (WB), the combinations of white and UV-A LEDs (W-UVA), and white, blue, and UV-A LEDs (WB-UVA) on the leaf morphology, photosynthetic traits, biomass accumulation, root architecture, and hormone content of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L. cv. Tianjiao No. 5) seedlings grown in the greenhouse. The results indicated that supplementary LED lighting led to a decreased plant height, shorter hypocotyl length, bigger leaf area, and thicker leaf compared with those grown with solar light only, regardless of light quality. The shoot fresh weight, root fresh weight, and seedling quality index of cucumber seedlings grown under the combinations of white, blue, and UVA radiations increased by 30.8%, 3.2-fold, and 1.8-fold, respectively, compared with those grown with natural light only. However, no significant differences were exhibited in the biomass accumulation of greenhouse-grown cucumber seedlings between the control and the UVA treatment. The cellulose content and stem firmness of greenhouse-grown cucumber seedlings grown under the combinations of white, blue, and UVA radiations increased by 49.9% and 13.1%, respectively, compared with those grown under white light only. Additionally, the cytokinin content of cucumber seedlings was promoted by over 36.7% by applying supplementary light. In summary, the combinations of white, blue, and UVA radiations led to compact morphological characteristics, superior mechanical properties, and preferable growth performance, which could be applied as an available lighting strategy to obtain the desired morphological and quality properties of vegetable seedlings.

The relatively low light intensity during autumn–winter or early spring and inclement weather such as rain or fog may lead to extended production periods and decreased quality of greenhouse-grown tomato seedlings. To produce high-quality tomato seedlings rapidly, the influences of supplementary lights with different spectra on the morphological and physiological traits of tomato seedlings were measured in a greenhouse. Supplemental lighting with the same daily light integrals (DLI) of 3.6 mol m−2d−1 was provided by white (W) light-emitting diodes (LEDs), white plus red (WR) LEDs, and red plus blue (RB) LEDs, respectively, and tomato seedlings grown under only sunlight irradiation were regarded as the control. Our results demonstrate that raised DLI by supplementary light improved the growth and development of greenhouse-grown tomato seedlings, regardless of the spectral composition. Under conditions with the equal DLI, the tomato seedlings grown under supplementary WR LEDs with a red to blue light ratio (R:B ratio) of 1.3 obtained the highest values of the shoot and root fresh weights, net photosynthetic rate, and total chlorophyll content. The best root growth and highest root activity of tomato seedlings were also found under the supplementary WR LEDs. Supplementary WR LEDs remarkably increased the stem firmness of the greenhouse-grown tomato seedlings, and increased the starch content in the leaves of greenhouse-grown tomato seedlings compared to the control. However, statistically significant differences did not occur in the sucrose, carotenoid contents, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT) activities among the different supplemental lighting treatments. In conclusion, supplemental LED lighting could promote the growth and development of greenhouse-grown tomato seedlings grown under insufficient sunlight conditions. In addition, WR LEDs could obtain tomato seedlings with a higher net photosynthetic rate, higher root activity, and higher starch content compared with other treatments, which could be applied as supplementary lights in greenhouse-grown tomato seedlings grown in seasons with insufficient light.

Propellant Gauging is of vital importance to a spacecraft at the end of its life. Based on the Monte Carlo Method, uncertainty analysis and the improvement of propellant gauging using gas injection have been studied. As a result of the analysis, the gauging uncertainty has weak relation to the uncertainties of the volumes of the injection room and tank, the uncertainties of the pressure, and the temperature in the injection room. Relatively, the uncertainties of the temperature and pressure in the tank have a great effect on the gauging uncertainty. By improving the uncertainties of the tank pressure and temperature within 0.04% and 0.4%, the final gauging uncertainty can be obtained within 0.4%. Ground tests have been conducted and the results came out with approximately 0.4% error, well within the theoretical analysis.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is the second most common hematologic malignancy. MM stem cells (MMSCs) are thought to be the main causes of in vivo engraftment and eventual recurrence. As a notable new technology, cold atmospheric plasmas (CAPs) show a promising anti-tumor effect, due to their production of various ROS. In this study, we found that different types of plasma could inhibit MM’s ability to form cell colonies, suppress MM in vivo engraftment, and extend survival times. We demonstrated that NAC (a ROS scavenger) could block ROS increases and reverse the inhibition of MM’s cell-colony-formation ability, which was induced by the plasma treatment. By using a stem cell signaling array, we found that the Notch pathway was inhibited by the plasma treatment; this was further confirmed by conducting real-time PCRs of three MM cell lines. Together, these results constitute the first report of plasma treatment inhibiting MM in vivo engraftment and prolonging survival time by suppressing the Notch pathway via ROS regulation.

Mn-doped ZnS quantum dots (QDs) with excellent optical properties have been explored in a wide range of fields. Their potential adverse effects on biological systems and human health should be evaluated before biological application. In the present study, we investigated the effect of Mn-doped ZnS QDs on the intestinal tract and gut microbiota structures at 2 h and 14 days (d) after 14 d repeated oral exposure in mice. Flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry (FAAS), histopathological examination, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to assess the absorption and toxicity of Mn-doped ZnS QDs on the intestinal tract. The 16S rRNA gene sequencing was used to evaluate the gut microbial communities. Mn-doped ZnS QDs did not accumulate in the duodenum, jejunum, ileum, or colon. The Zn content of feces was not significantly higher than in the control group. No major histological changes were found in these tissues. The intestinal microvilli remained regular, but swelling of mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum was detected by TEM at 14 d after the last gavage. A total of 2,712 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were generated. Mn-doped ZnS QDs treatment did not significantly change the α-diversity of Richness, Chao1, Shannon, and Simpson indexes. According to principal component analysis (PCA), Mn-doped ZnS QDs had no effect on the overall structure of the gut microbiota. No significant change occurred at the phylum level, while three genera were downregulated at 2 h and seven changed at 14 d after the last gavage. Our findings revealed that Mn-doped ZnS QDs had a little stimulation of the intestinal tract and gut microbiota, and oral administration may be a safe route for biological application (such as bioimaging and drug delivery).

Background: Many studies have confirmed the existence of an extremely close relationship between smartphone addiction and perceived stress. However, the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying the association between perceived stress and smartphone addiction in medical college students remain largely unexplored.Methods: A questionnaire was distributed among a total of 769 medical college students in Heilongjiang Province, China. Participants completed measures of perceived stress, smartphone addiction, negative emotions, and psychological capital. Pearson’s correlation analysis was used to test the correlations between variables. The analysis of a moderated mediation model was performed using Hayes’s PROCESS macro.Results: Pearson’s correlation analysis indicated that perceived stress (r = 0.18, p < 0.01) and negative emotions (r = 0.31, p < 0.01) were positively correlated with smartphone addiction, and psychological capital was negatively correlated with smartphone addiction (r = −0.29, p < 0.01). The moderated mediation analysis indicated that negative emotions partially mediated the association between perceived stress and smartphone addiction [mediation effect accounted for 33.3%, SE = 0.10, 95% CI = (0.10, 0.24)], and the first stage of the mediation process was significantly moderated by psychological capital [moderated mediation = −0.01, SE = 0.01, 95% CI = (−0.01, −0.00)].Conclusion: Negative emotions play a mediating role between perceived stress and smartphone addiction, and psychological capital plays an important moderating role in the first stage of the mediation process.

Abstract Background Depression in HIV/AIDS children not only worsens the progression and outcome of illness, but also impacts their quality of life, having a negative influence on society. The present study was conducted from a psychosocial perspective, considering children’s social desirability, cognitive emotion regulation, and perceived social support to identify the factors influencing depression in HIV-infected children in China. Methods Participants were 155 children aged 8–18 years who were eligible to participate in this study assessing depression and associated risk factors using the Children’s Depression Inventory, Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and Children’s Social Desirability scale. Hierarchical linear regression analysis was conducted to model the effects of social desirability, perceived social support, and cognitive emotion regulation on depression in HIV/AIDS children. Results Statistically significant linear relationships were found among social desirability, perceived social support, partial dimensions of cognitive emotion regulation, and children’s depression scores. Perceived social support, planning and positive reappraisal were negatively related to the depression. Conversely, social desirability, catastrophizing and other-blame were positively associated with the depression. Linear regression analysis indicated that children’s social desirability, perceived social support, and one dimension of cognitive emotion regulation (catastrophizing) were found to significantly predict depression. Conclusions Psychosocial factors have an important influence on the depression experienced by HIV-infected children. Interventions from personal subjective psychosocial to reduce depression in HIV-infected children in China are warranted.

To obtain an operation curve of a train with minimum energy-consumption and improve the utilization of regenerative braking energy without changing equipment and infrastructure, this paper proposes a new optimization method of energy-saving for a train based on an improved chicken swarm optimization algorithm after analyzing the calculation method of energy-consumption for a train and improving the chicken swarm optimization algorithm. On this basis, this paper establishes an optimization model of energy-saving for a train by taking minimum energy-consumption, accurate stopping and punctuality as optimization objectives, and solves the model with the improved chicken swarm optimization algorithm. Finally, a simulation analysis for the method proposed in this paper is performed by using MATLAB software with the running parameters of Nanning metro line 1 in China. The results of the simulation analysis show that the method proposed in this paper is effective in solving the optimization problem of train energy-saving.

Due to increasing environmental concerns regarding urban transit systems, the specific operating characteristics of metro trains and the rules of regenerative braking energy recycling were studied in this paper to relieve environmental stress. Based on the integrated research on trajectory and operation time, we considered complex operation routes mixed with ramps and detours, which also caused a complicated situation of overlap time, to better fit the actual and more efficient situation. A complex new model combined with a matrix control algorithm was proposed in this study. This model overcomes the lack of matching opportunity for overlap time as well as the precocity and instability of the genetic algorithm. In addition, the search ability of the model in the solution space is more comprehensive. In the interest of achieving minimum energy consumption, the objective function was set to minimize the total energy. Taking the Chongqing Metro Line 1 as a numerical example, the energy consumption results show that the energy saving method is effective and has a practical advantage. Then, a comparison of different models using the index of renewable utilization ratio as the indicator shows that the proposed model has a superior potential for energy conservation.

IntroductionAlthough major depressive diroder (MDD) has brought huge burden and challenges to society globally, effective and accurate diagnoses and treatments remain inadequate. The pathogenesis that for women are more likely to suffer from depression than men needs to be excavated as well. The function of circRNAs in pathological process of depression has not been widely investigated. This study aims to explore potential diagnostic biomarker circRNA of female patients with MDD and to investigate its role in pathogenesis.MethodsFirst, an expression profile of circRNAs in the peripheral blood monocular cells of MDD patients and healthy peripherals were established based on high-throughput sequencing analysis. In addition, the top 10 differentially expressed circRNAs were quantified by quantitative real-time PCR to explore diagnostic biomarkers. To further investigate the function of biomarkers in the pathogenesis of MDD, bioinformatics analysis on downstream target genes of the biomarkers was carried out.ResultsThere is a mass of dysregulated circRNAs in PBMCs between female MDD patients and healthy controls. Among the top 10 differentially expressed circRNAs, hsa_circ_0126218 is more feasible as a diagnostic biomarker. The expression level of hsa_circ_0126218 displayed upregulation in patients with MDD and the area under the operating characteristic curve of hsa_circ_0126218 was 0.801 (95% CI 0.7226–0.8791, p < 0.0001). To explain the competing endogenous RNA role of hsa_circ_0126218 in the pathogenesis of female MDD, a hsa_circ_0126218-miRNA-mRNA network was established. Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analyses stated that some of the enriched pathways downstream of hsa_circ_0126218 are closely related to MDD. Moreover, we established a protein-protein network to further screen out the hub genes (PIK3CA, PTEN, MAPK1, CDC42, Lyn, YES1, EPHB2, SMAD2, STAT1, and ILK). The function of hsa_circ_0126218 was refined by constructing a verified circRNA-predicted miRNA-hub gene subnetwork.Conclusionhsa_circ_0126218 can be considered as a new female MDD biomarker, and the pathogenesis of female MDD by the downstream regulation of hsa_circ_0126218 has been predicted. These findings may help further improve the early detection, effective diagnosis, convenient monitoring of complications, precise treatment, and timely recurrence prevention of depression.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). In addition to traditional risk factors, psychological determinants play an important role in CVD risk. This study applied Deep Neural Network (DNN) to develop a CVD risk prediction model and explored the bio-psycho-social contributors to the CVD risk among patients with T2DM. From 2017 to 2020, 834 patients with T2DM were recruited from the Department of Endocrinology, Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, China. In this cross-sectional study, the patients' bio-psycho-social information was collected through clinical examinations and questionnaires. The dataset was randomly split into a 75% train set and a 25% test set. DNN was implemented at the best performance on the train set and applied on the test set. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis was used to evaluate the model performance. Of participants, 272 (32.6%) were diagnosed with CVD. The developed ensemble model for CVD risk achieved an area under curve score of 0.91, accuracy of 87.50%, sensitivity of 88.06%, and specificity of 87.23%. Among patients with T2DM, the top five predictors in the CVD risk model were body mass index, anxiety, depression, total cholesterol, and systolic blood pressure. In summary, machine learning models can provide an automated identification mechanism for patients at CVD risk. Integrated treatment measures should be taken in health management, including clinical care, mental health improvement, and health behavior promotion.

Objectives: To analyze the significance of the number of positive lymph nodes in oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) stratified by p16.Methods: A total of 674 patients were retrospectively enrolled and divided into 4 groups based on their number of positive lymph nodes (0 vs. 1–2 vs. 3–4 vs. ≥5). The Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate the disease-free survival (DFS) and disease-specific survival (DSS) rates. Cox model was used to evaluate the independent risk factor.Results: p16 showed positivity in 85 patients with a rate of 12.6%. In patients with p16 negativity, the 5-year DFS rates were 52%, 39%, and 21% in patients with 0, 1–2, and 3–4 positive lymph nodes, respectively, in patients with ≥5 positive lymph nodes, all patients developed recurrence within 2 years after operation, the difference was significant; the 5-year DSS rates were 60, 38, and 18% in patients with 0, 1–2, and 3–4 positive lymph nodes, respectively, in patients with ≥5 positive lymph nodes, all patients died within 4-years after operation. The difference was significant. In p16 positivity patients, the 3-year DFS rates were 41% and 17% in patients with 0–2 and ≥3 positive lymph nodes, respectively, the difference was significant; the 3-year DSS rates were 84 and 46% in patients with 0–2 and ≥3 positive lymph nodes, the difference was significant.Conclusions: The number of positive lymph nodes is significantly associated with the survival in oral SCC, its survival effect is not affected by p16 status.

Transformational leadership has been becoming increasingly vital to the provision of high-quality health care, particularly during major public health emergencies. The present study aims to investigate the impact of transformational leadership on physicians’ performance and explore the cross-level underlying mechanisms with achievement motivations and coping styles among Chinese physicians. During 2017–2019, 1,527 physicians of 101 departments were recruited from six hospitals in China with a cluster random sampling method. Participants completed several questionnaires regarding their job performance, achievement motivations, coping styles, and transformational leadership. Multilevel mediation effects were tested using cross-level path analysis. The result of this study indicated that transformational leadership was applied well in Chinese medical settings with a score of 101.56 ± 6.42. The hierarchical linear model showed that transformational leadership had a cross-level direct positive effect on physicians’ performance (β = 1.524, p < 0.05). Furthermore, results of cross-level path analyses revealed that transformational leadership contributed to physicians’ performance by sequentially influencing achievement motivations first and then coping styles. In addition, the path “transformational leadership → positive coping (PC) style → physicians’ performance” showed the strongest cross-level indirect effect. In summary, public health leaders should enhance physicians’ performance by promoting individual development, especially achievement motivation and PC style.

Background: Recent studies suggest that glycogen synthase kinase (GSK)-3β is involved in the development of major depressive disorder (MDD). The aim of this study was to investigate the interaction between GSK-3β polymorphism (rs6438552, rs334558, and rs2199503) and negative life events in the pathogenesis of major depressive disorder (MDD).Methods: DNA genotyping was performed on peripheral blood leukocytes in 550 patients with MDD and 552 age- and gender-matched controls. The frequency and severity of negative life events were assessed by the Life Events Scale (LES). A chi-square method was employed to assess the gene-environment interaction (G × E).Results: Differences in rs6438552, rs334558, and rs2199503 genotype distributions were observed between MDD patients and controls. Significant G × E interactions between allelic variation of rs6438552, rs334558, and rs2199503 and negative life events were observed. Individuals with negative life events and carrying genotypes of rs6438552 A+, rs334558 A+, and rs2199503G+ have increased the risk of depression.Conclusions: These results indicate that interactions between the GSK-3β rs6438552, rs334558, and rs2199503 polymorphisms and environment increases the risk of developing MDD.
