We investigate the space-time decay rates of solutions to the 3D Cauchy problem of the compressible Oldroyd-B system with diffusive properties and without viscous dissipation. The main novelties of this paper involve two aspects: On the one hand, we prove that the weighted rate of $ k $-th order spatial derivative (where $ 0\leq k\leq3 $) of the global solution $ (\rho, u, \eta, \tau) $ is $ t^{-\frac{3}{4}+\frac{k}{2}+\gamma} $ in the weighted Lebesgue space $ L^2_{\gamma} $. On the other hand, we show that the space-time decay rate of the $ m $-th order spatial derivative (where $ m \in\left [0, 2\right] $) of the extra stress tensor of the field in $ L^2_{\gamma } $ is $ (1+t)^{-\frac{5}{4}-\frac{m}{2}+\gamma} $, which is faster than that of the velocity. The proofs are based on delicate weighted energy methods and interpolation tricks.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive tract. In recent years, the age at which CRC is diagnosed has been trending younger on a global scale. Obesity, as a worldwide epidemic, is on the rise in most countries due to changes in dietary habits and lifestyles. Concurrently, with increased screening efforts and growing public awareness of health, the incidence of CRC in older adults is gradually declining, while the incidence in younger and middle-aged individuals is steadily increasing. This seems to indicate a strong association between overweight and obesity and a younger age of colorectal cancer diagnosis. Currently, with advancements in research on the relationship between early life (childhood and adolescence) body weight and CRC, new insights have been gained regarding the role of high BMI (overweight and obesity) in the occurrence and development of CRC, as well as its impact at different early life stages. Adolescence appears to be a particularly critical period. Therefore, this review will summarize the relationship between early life high BMI and CRC, aiming to provide a reference for clinical and basic research as well as CRC prevention. Significance This study on the relationship between early life high BMI and the development of CRC reveals the role of high BMI during childhood and adolescence in the occurrence and progression of CRC. It suggests the importance of restoring normal weight or reducing weight in individuals with high BMI early in life for the prevention of colorectal cancer.

As renewable energy continues to grow, more inverter-based distributed generators are being integrated into power grids, in which virtual synchronous generator (VSG) is widely adopted to regulate system voltage and stabilize frequency. However, grid voltage imbalances can cause serious oscillations in active power and system frequency, thus severely limiting the effectiveness of VSGs. Consequently, this study proposes an adaptive control strategy to enhance the dynamic performance of VSG under an imbalanced grid voltage. Compared to conventional VSG control methods, the proposed approach enables dynamic adjustment of the inertia and damping coefficients based on the output angular frequency oscillations, so as to shorten the settling time and reduce active power overshoot. The error-driven adaptive mechanism forms a closed-loop control, which effectively keeps the system stable regardless of parameter variations. Additionally, it combines with balanced output current (BOC), constant active power (CAP), and constant reactive power (CRP) control modes to further improve effectiveness. Finally, verifications have been conducted in the MATLAB/SIMULINK and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environment to demonstrate the superiority and feasibility of the proposed method.

Abstract Mechanical metamaterials are often designed with particular properties for specific load‐bearing functions. Alternatively, this study aims to create a class of active lattice metamaterials, dubbed self‐activated solids, that can learn desired stiffness tensors from the elastic deformations they experienced, a crucial feature to improve the performance, efficiency, and functionality of materials. Artificial adaptive matters that combine sensory, control, and actuation elements can offer appealing solutions. However, challenges still remain: The designs will rely on accurate off‐line and global computations, as well as intricate coordination among individual elements. Here, a simple online and local learning strategy is initiated based on contrastive Hebbian learning to gradually guide self‐activated solids to possess sought‐after stiffness tensors autonomously and reversibly. During learning, the bond stiffness of the active lattice varies depending only on its local strain. The numerical tests show that the self‐activated solid can not only achieve the desired bulk, shear, and coupling moduli but also manifest uni‐mode and bi‐mode extremal materials by itself after experiencing the corresponding elastic deformations. Further, the self‐activated solid can also achieve the desired time‐varying moduli when exposed to temporally different loads. The design is applicable to any lattice geometries and is resistant to damage and instabilities. The material design approach and the physical learning strategy suggested can benefit the design of autonomous materials, physical learning machines, and adaptive robots.

Potatoes, as a high-nitrogen (N)-demand crop, are strongly influenced by both the quantity and form of N supply. Previous studies have demonstrated that applying nitrate N prior to tuber formation and ammonium N post-tuber formation can substantially enhance potato yields and improve N fertilizer use efficiency. However, the ammonium N introduced into the soil undergoes nitrification, creating challenges in aligning the N supply form with the needs of potatoes. This study explored novel N regulation strategies aimed at augmenting potato yields and improving N fertilizer use efficiency. Two field experiments were conducted from 2020 to 2022. Experiment 1 involved four N gradients, namely no N, 150 kg N ha−1, 300 kg N ha−1, and 450 kg N ha−1. Soil samples were collected regularly to determine the transformation patterns of soil ammonium N during potato growth. Experiment 2 included three N management practices: farmer practice (Con), ''nitrate followed by ammonium'' with nitrification inhibitor (N–NI), and optimization (the soil ammonium N transformation-based split application of N fertilizer, Opt). The potato yield and N fertilizer use efficiency were compared to assess the performance of the optimized strategy. The results showed that 90 % of the ammonium N transformed 20 days after the basal dressing of N. When N fertilizer was applied as top dressing during the tuber formation and bulking stages, more than 90 % of ammonium N was transformed after 10 days. The optimized strategy resulted in a 20 % increase in potato yield, a 20 % increase in N fertilizer partial factor productivity, and a 12–20 % reduction in residual inorganic N in the 0–60 cm soil layer. This suggests that ammonium N applied as base fertilizer exhibits a relatively slow transformation rate, while applying ammonium N as top dressing during the tuber formation and bulking stages accelerates the transformation rate. The split application of ammonium N based on soil ammonium N transformation patterns can improve the alignment between the N supply form with the specific demands of potatoes.

Since the geopolitical conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Western countries led by the United States and the European Union have launched several energy sanctions against Russia. How will sanctions and countersanctions on energy trade affect the EU-Russia and the world’s energy trade pattern? This paper sets six energy trade scenarios based on the degree of energy sanctions and counter-sanction measures imposed by the EU and Russia. We use the global multi-region comparative static CGE model to simulate the changes in macroeconomic indicators in major countries worldwide. The diversion effect of energy trade and the impact on the national economy caused by geographical risks quantitatively analyzes. The results show: (1) Energy sanctions will cause economic damage to both sides, in the worst-case scenario, the EU economic loss reaches 1.488%, the Russian loss reaches 4.8%, and worldwide inflation will rise; (2) Russia’s counter-sanctions will have a direct economic impact on the EU, but will not improve its economic situation; (3) Energy sanctions will bring about a direct energy trade transfer effect, the EU’s energy imports will be diverted to non-Russian markets, and Russian energy exports will also shift to Asian markets, and energy trade between the two economies will be significantly reduced; (4) Energy supply will have a profound impact on the world’s economy and society, leading to social instability and a decline in total output of 2.895%. Energy games will have a negative impact on the world’s carbon emission reduction and energy consumption structure transformation. Through quantitative analysis of the impact of energy sanctions on the world economy and society, the energy game caused by the geopolitical crisis will harm both parties involved in the game and the world economy. The world pattern will return from the development pattern of cooperative division of labor to a situation of conflict and confrontation, which is not conducive to the transformation of energy trade and consumption structure under market rules.

Abstract Background UDP-glucuronate decarboxylase (also named UXS) converts UDP-glucuronic acid (UDP-GlcA) to UDP-xylose (UDP-Xyl) by decarboxylation of the C6-carboxylic acid of glucuronic acid. UDP-Xyl is an important sugar donor that is required for the synthesis of plant cell wall polysaccharides. Results In this study, we first carried out the genome-wide identification of NtUXS genes in tobacco. A total of 17 NtUXS genes were identified, which could be divided into two groups (Group I and II), and the Group II UXSs can be further divided into two subgroups (Group IIa and IIb). Furthermore, the protein structures, intrachromosomal distributions and gene structures were thoroughly analyzed. To experimentally verify the subcellular localization of NtUXS16 protein, we transformed tobacco BY-2 cells with NtUXS16 fused to the monomeric red fluorescence protein (mRFP) at the C terminus under the control of the cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) 35S promoter. The fluorescent signals of NtUXS16-mRFP were localized to the medial-Golgi apparatus. Contrary to previous predictions, protease digestion analysis revealed that NtUXS16 is not a type II membrane protein. Overexpression of NtUXS16 in Arabidopsis seedling in darkness led to a significant increase in hypocotyl length and a reduction in root length compared with the wild type. In summary, these results suggest Golgi apparatus localized-NtUXS16 plays an important role in hypocotyl and root growth in the dark. Conclusion Our findings facilitate our understanding of the novel functions of NtUXS16 and provide insights for further exploration of the biological roles of NtUXS genes in tobacco.

Friction and wear are the main failure sources of face seals. When the surfaces of sealing rings exhibit greater roughness, the level of friction might increase and lead to sealing failure. Therefore, in this paper, based on the elastic contact hypothesis of rough and wavy surfaces and the influence of temperature on the elastic modulus of materials, a thermoelastic contact lubrication model of a gas-lubricated end seal is established. The novelty and advantage of this study is that it takes the effect of surface roughness into consideration during thermoelastic analysis of gas-lubricated seals. The film pressure, temperature, contact force and deformation of a gas spiral groove-faced seal are numerically determined. The influence of surface roughness on the contact distribution, deformation and temperature of the end-face seal at different speeds and pressures is analyzed. The film thickness increases as the rotational speed increases from 1 rpm to 2000 rpm, while the contact pressure sharply decreases from 0.25 kPa to 0. The analysis shows that the roughness contact mainly happens on the inner side of the rings due to convergent distortion of the seal faces, which easily causes partial wear of the seal faces. Moreover, it can also be found that the spiral grooves on the sealing surface can produce obvious hydrodynamic pressure effect due to the function of shear speed when the speed increases to 2000 rpm, while the film temperature increases from 293.3 K to about 306 K. The greater surface roughness results in a larger temperature rise under low-rotational-speed and lower-seal-pressure conditions, which further increases the risk of severe wear or even failure of the seal faces.

Plant species loss, driven by global changes and human activities, can have cascading effects on other trophic levels, such as arthropods, and alter the multitrophic structure of ecosystems. While the relationship between plant diversity and arthropod communities has been well-documented, few studies have explored the effects of species composition variation or plant functional groups. In this study, we conducted a long-term plant removal experiment to investigate the impact of plant functional group loss (specifically targeting tall grasses and sedges, as well as tall or short forbs) on arthropod diversity and their functional groups. Our findings revealed that the removal of plant functional groups resulted in increased arthropod richness, abundance and the exponential of Shannon entropy, contrary to the commonly observed positive correlation between plant diversity and consumer diversity. Furthermore, the removal of different plant groups had varying impacts on arthropod trophic levels. The removal of forbs had a more pronounced impact on herbivores compared to graminoids, but this impact did not consistently cascade to higher-trophic arthropods. Notably, the removal of short forbs had a more significant impact on predators, as evidenced by the increased richness, abundance, the exponential of Shannon entropy, inverse Simpson index and inverse Berger-Parker index of carnivores and abundance of omnivores, likely attributable to distinct underlying mechanisms. Our results highlight the importance of plant species identity in shaping arthropod communities in alpine grasslands. This study emphasizes the crucial role of high plant species diversity in controlling arthropods in natural grasslands, particularly in the context of plant diversity loss caused by global changes and human activities.

Landslides are common hazardous geological events, and accurate and efficient landslide identification methods are important for hazard assessment and post-disaster response to geological disasters. Deep learning (DL) methods based on remote sensing data are currently widely used in landslide identification tasks. The recently proposed segment anything model (SAM) has shown strong generalization capabilities in zero-shot semantic segmentation. Nevertheless, SAM heavily relies on user-provided prompts, and performs poorly in identifying landslides on remote sensing images. In this study, we propose a SAM-based cross-feature fusion network (SAM-CFFNet) for the landslide identification task. The model utilizes SAM’s image encoder to extract multi-level features and our proposed cross-feature fusion decoder (CFFD) to generate high-precision segmentation results. The CFFD enhances landslide information through fine-tuning and cross-fusing multi-level features while leveraging a shallow feature extractor (SFE) to supplement texture details and improve recognition performance. SAM-CFFNet achieves high-precision landslide identification without the need for prompts while retaining SAM’s robust feature extraction capabilities. Experimental results on three open-source landslide datasets show that SAM-CFFNet outperformed other comparative models in terms of landslide identification accuracy and achieved an intersection over union (IoU) of 77.13%, 55.26%, and 73.87% on the three datasets, respectively. Our ablation studies confirm the effectiveness of each module designed in our model. Moreover, we validated the justification for our CFFD design through comparative analysis with diverse decoders. SAM-CFFNet achieves precise landslide identification using remote sensing images, demonstrating the potential application of the SAM-based model in geohazard analysis.

The plant hormone jasmonic acid plays an important role in plant growth and development, participating in many physiological processes, such as plant disease resistance, stress resistance, organ development, root growth, and flowering. With the improvement in living standards, people have higher requirements regarding the quality of vegetables. However, during the growth process of vegetables, they are often attacked by pests and diseases and undergo abiotic stresses, resulting in their growth restriction and decreases in their yield and quality. Therefore, people have found many ways to regulate the growth and quality of vegetable crops. In recent years, in addition to the role that JA plays in stress response and resistance, it has been found to have a regulatory effect on crop quality. Therefore, this study aims to review the jasmonic acid accumulation patterns during various physiological processes and its potential role in vegetable development and quality formation, as well as the underlying molecular mechanisms. The information provided in this manuscript sheds new light on the improvements in vegetable yield and quality.

Abstract Monitoring and alarm play an important role in preventing trip‐out caused by wildfires for high‐voltage transmission lines. This paper proposes a multi‐Doppler weather radar‐based method for monitoring and alerting of wildfires near transmission lines. Firstly, characteristic parameters are mathematically proposed to distinguish wildfire's radar echoes. Then, the four‐site neighbourhood algorithm and the multithreading method are used to extract all possible wildfire echo units detected by various Doppler weather radars, and a cumulative probability is calculated to identify the wildfire. Finally, a regional block search method is used to quickly locate wildfire‐affected transmission towers. The membership function of spread time in the fuzzy set is proposed to determine the alarm level, which takes into account the influences of environment, topography, and vegetation on wildfire spread rate. The application to a provincial power grid demonstrates that the proposed method has an accuracy of 82.4%, a missing alarm rate of 27.4%, and a delay of fewer than 15 min. In addition, the joint observation of wildfires by multi‐Doppler weather radars and satellites indicates a promising application prospect for transmission line wildfire fighting.

Abstract Drug discovery for a protein target is a laborious and costly process. Deep learning (DL) methods have been applied to drug discovery and successfully generated novel molecular structures, and they can substantially reduce development time and costs. However, most of them rely on prior knowledge, either by drawing on the structure and properties of known molecules to generate similar candidate molecules or extracting information on the binding sites of protein pockets to obtain molecules that can bind to them. In this paper, DeepTarget, an end-to-end DL model, was proposed to generate novel molecules solely relying on the amino acid sequence of the target protein to reduce the heavy reliance on prior knowledge. DeepTarget includes three modules: Amino Acid Sequence Embedding (AASE), Structural Feature Inference (SFI), and Molecule Generation (MG). AASE generates embeddings from the amino acid sequence of the target protein. SFI inferences the potential structural features of the synthesized molecule, and MG seeks to construct the eventual molecule. The validity of the generated molecules was demonstrated by a benchmark platform of molecular generation models. The interaction between the generated molecules and the target proteins was also verified on the basis of two metrics, drug–target affinity and molecular docking. The results of the experiments indicated the efficacy of the model for direct molecule generation solely conditioned on amino acid sequence.

Abstract Background With the increasing morbidity and mortality of preeclampsia (PE), it has posed a huge challenge to public health. Previous studies have reported endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress could contribute to trophoblastic dysfunction which was associated with the N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification by methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3), resulting in PE. However, little was known about the relationship between METTL3 and ER stress in PE. Thus, in vitro and in vivo studies were performed to clarify the mechanism about how METTL3 affects the trophoblasts under ER stress in PE and to explore a therapeutic approach for PE. Methods An ER stress model in HTR-8/SVneo cells and a preeclamptic rat model were used to study the mechanism and explore a therapeutic approach for PE. Western blot, immunohistochemistry, quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), and methylated RNA immunoprecipitation (MeRIP)-qPCR were performed to detect the protein, RNA, and methylated transmembrane BAX inhibitor motif containing 6 (TMBIM6) expression levels. The m6A colorimetric and mRNA stability assays were used to measure the m6A levels and TMBIM6 stability, respectively. Short hairpin RNAs (shRNAs) were used to knockdown METTL3 and YTH N6-methyladenosine RNA binding protein 2 (YTHDF2). Flow cytometry and Transwell assays were performed to evaluate the apoptosis and invasion abilities of trophoblasts. Results Upregulated METTL3 and m6A levels and downregulated TMBIM6 levels were observed in preeclamptic placentas under ER stress. The ER stress model was successfully constructed, and knockdown of METTL3 had a beneficial effect on HTR-8/SVneo cells under ER stress as it decreased the levels of methylated TMBIM6 mRNA. Moreover, overexpression of TMBIM6 was beneficial to HTR-8/SVneo cells under ER stress as it could neutralize the harmful effects of METTL3 overexpression. Similar to the knockdown of METTL3, downregulation of YTHDF2 expression resulted in the increased expression and mRNA stability of TMBIM6. Finally, improved systemic symptoms as well as protected placentas and fetuses were demonstrated in vivo. Conclusions METTL3/YTHDF2/TMBIM6 axis exerts a significant role in trophoblast dysfunction resulting in PE while inhibiting METTL3 may provide a novel therapeutic approach for PE.

Pear is one of the most economically important fruit crops widely distributed around the world. To enrich the pear germplasm resources for obtaining the polyploid plants, the seeds from pear cultivar of 'Dangshansuli' (Pyrus bretschneideri) were treated with colchicine solution under concentration gradients of 0.1%, 0.5% and 1.0% for 12-, 24- and 48-h, respectively. Our results showed that colchicine could inhibit seed germination, and the inhibitory effect was positive with the treated concentration of colchicine. We detected that the 0.1% colchicine solution for 12 h was the most effective treatment for inducing pear polyploidy. Furthermore, compared with the wild diploid pear plants, a significant morphological variation, such as shorter plants, smaller and oval leaves were observed in the induced tetraploid pear plants. Significant changes in leaf anatomy, including larger and sparse stomata and the epidermal cells with irregularly or polygonal-shape were also detected in tetraploid pear plants. In addition, the contents of 10 cuticular wax compounds from the leaves of diploid and tetraploid pear plants were also detected with significant difference. Taken together, this study lays the foundation for polyploid breeding of pear for contributing diverse characteristics.

Abstract In spite of similar efficacy and safety in pilot studies, compared with the contemporary durable polymer drug-eluting stent (DP-DES), the bioabsorbable polymer drug-eluting stent (BP-DES) may be more superior in promoting blood vessel healing. We sought to compare the safety and efficacy of everolimus-eluting BP-DES (BP-EES) with contemporary DP-DES through a meta-analysis. We performed this meta-analysis to provide further evidence of the safety and efficacy of BP-EES. Medline, Embase and the Cochrane library databases were searched for randomized controlled trials comparing clinical efficacy and safety of BP-EES versus contemporary DP-DES. Fifteen RCTs with a total of 15,572 patients were selected. The rate of MACE was 9.4% in patients receiving BP-EES and 7.3% receiving DP-EES (RR 1.13, 95% CI 0.99–1.29, p = 0.05; I 2 = 46%). TLF and MI were also similar in both groups. Based on the available data, this review demonstrates that BP-EES displays a clinically comparable efficacy and safety profile to that of contemporary DP-DES at years of follow-up in patients undergoing PCI.

Abstract A reliable battery thermal management system (BTMS) not only can effectively decrease the maximum temperature but also maintain the temperature uniformity of the lithium‐ion (Li‐ion) battery after grouping. Nevertheless, considering the deficiency of a single heat dissipation method, there exist challenges in efficient heat dissipation structure design, especially at high discharge rates. In this work, a composite heat dissipation structure of battery module with phase change material (PCM)–aluminum plate–fin is proposed. Meanwhile, the transient effects of different discharge rates, melting points, and thickness of PCM on the thermal characteristics of the module are analyzed. Results show that the maximum temperature of the module with PCM–aluminum plate–fin can be reduced by 25.8°C, 11.0°C, and 10.2°C respectively at 4 C discharge rate compared with natural convection, aluminum plate–fin, and paraffin PCM, and the maximum experimental error among them is less than 5%. During 2–5 C discharging, the melting rate of phase change increases first and then decreases, which leads to the trend of the maximum temperature and maximum temperature difference of the module rising with bending twice. When the ambient temperature is 25°C, the paraffin PCM with a melting point of 28°C is implemented for battery cooling because of its more rapid melting and heat absorption. The increase in PCM thickness is beneficial to the heat dissipation of the module. The optimal PCM thickness of 3 mm can realize temperature uniformity control within 2.5°C.

Abstract In this letter, a localization algorithm for mixed‐field sources based on fourth‐order cumulant matrix rank reduction is proposed. First, a cumulant matrix is constructed, and a spectral peak search function associated with the direction‐of‐arrival (DOA) of the sources only is constructed using the rank reduction principle to achieve DOA estimation. Then the range estimation is also obtained by a spectral peak search. Compared to existing algorithms, the algorithm is able to utilize all the elements of the cumulant matrix and has a higher accuracy and degrees‐of‐freedom. The simulation results verify the excellence of the algorithm.

ABSTRACT: Objectives: Available data show that COVID-19 vaccines may be less effective in people living with HIV (PLWH) who are at increased risk for severe COVID-19. This meta-analysis aimed to compare the immunogenicity and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines in PLWH with healthy individuals. Methods: Pubmed/Medline, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library were searched. Risk ratios of seroconversion were separately pooled using random-effects meta-analysis, and a systematic review without meta-analysis of SARS-CoV-2 antibody titer levels was performed after the first and second doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. Results: A total of 22 studies with 6522 subjects met the inclusion criteria. After the first vaccine dose, seroconversion in PLWH was comparable to that in healthy individuals. After a second dose, seroconversion was slightly lower in PLWH compared with healthy controls, and antibody titers did not seem to be significantly affected or reduced among participants of both groups. Conclusion: COVID-19 vaccines show favorable immunogenicity and efficacy in PLWH. A second dose is associated with consistently improved seroconversion, although it is slightly lower in PLWH than in healthy individuals. Additional strategies, such as a booster vaccination with messenger RNA COVID-19 vaccines, might improve seroprotection for these patients.

Abstract Purpose A large number of people with Crohn's disease (CD) fail to recover from conventional therapy or biological therapy. Some studies showed that adalimumab (ADA) may be an effective alternative therapy for these patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ADA in inducing CD remission. Methods We performed search of Pubmed/MEDLINE, Embase, CENTRAL, the Cochrane IBD Group Specialized Register, and several other databases. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing any dose of ADA with controls (placebo or active) in participants with active CD were included. The primary outcome was the failure to achieve clinical response/remission at 4 weeks. Several subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed. Review Manager Software v5.3 was used. Results Four RCTs were included (n = 919), in which 553 participants received ADA and 366 participants received placebo. A meta-analysis of four studies showed that at 4 weeks, there were more people in the ADA group with clinical response/remission or symptom improvement compared with the placebo group. The rates of side effects, serious side effects, and study withdrawals due to side effects were lower in ADA participants than placebo ones. Conclusion This meta-analysis shows that ADA is superior to placebo in induction of clinical response/remission of CD patients, but no firm conclusions can be drawn on the safety of ADA in CD due to the low number of events. Appropriate greening design can enhance the microclimate of residential areas. This study investigated different greening cases for residential buildings in hot summer–cold winter zones. Four sorts of greening layouts were tested in a residential area in Chongqing, China. Arbor–grass mix and arbor–shrub–grass mix showed effective cooling and humidifying effects, and were chosen for further study using the ENVI-met model. The simulations were conducted in Chongqing, comparing sixteen greening cases for determinant and enclosed building forms. Results indicate that the greening design for determinant layout should give priority to ensuring the greening area and shortening the distance from the sidewalk. While enclosed layout should concentrate greening in dense populations, using arbor–shrub–grass mix to improve the wind environment. In cases where the distribution of arbors and shrubs covers a ratio of 7:4, constituting 30% of the overall green space, there is a reduction in environmental temperature by 1.4 °C and in PET by 4.8 °C. This study provides the optimal greening layout for two types of residential areas in China’s hot summer–cold winter zones, guiding landscape construction in these residential areas to optimize the microclimate.

The frequency and extent of transgene-mediated cosuppression varies substantially among plant genes. However, the underlying mechanisms leading to strong cosuppression have received little attention. In previous studies, we showed that the expression of FAD2 in the seeds of Arabidopsis results in strong RDR6-mediated cosuppression, where both endogenous and transgenic FAD2 were silenced. Here, the FAD2 strong cosuppression system was quantitatively investigated to identify the genetic factors by the expression of FAD2 in their mutants. The involvement of DCL2, DCL4, AGO1, and EIN5 was first confirmed in FAD2 cosuppression. SKI2, a remover of 3′ end aberrant RNAs, was newly identified as being involved in the cosuppression, while DCL3 was identified as antagonistic to DCL2 and DCL3. FAD2 cosuppression was markedly reduced in dcl2, dcl4, and ago1. The existence of an RDR6-independent cosuppression was revealed for the first time, which was demonstrated by weak gene silencing in rdr6 ein5 ski2. Further investigation of FAD2 cosuppression may unveil unknown genetic factor(s).

The latest laser altimetry technology employed by NASA’s Ice, Cloud, and Land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) enables the capture of denser and more precise spatial details. Here, we utilize ICESat-2 data from September 2018 to July 2022 to replicate and analyze the dynamics of the recovery ice stream’s subglacial lake system. To investigate the pathways of subglacial water transfer and determine the outline of subglacial lakes, we employ the differential digital elevation model (DEM) method to depict the surface elevation changes of each subglacial lake at monthly intervals. Our findings indicate significant migration in the activity location of 4 lakes. Notably, Rec1, previously regarded as a single lake, performed as two distinct lakes during the study. Furthermore, we identify two large-scale lakes with subglacial water flux reaching 0.5 km3.

WEE1 has emerged as an attractive target in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), but how EOC cells may alter their sensitivity to WEE1 inhibition remains unclear. Here, through a cell cycle machinery–related gene RNAi screen, we found that targeting outer dense fiber of sperm tails 2–like (ODF2L) was a synthetic lethal partner with WEE1 kinase inhibition in EOC cells. Knockdown of ODF2L robustly sensitized cells to treatment with the WEE1 inhibitor AZD1775 in EOC cell lines in vitro as well as in xenografts in vivo. Mechanistically, the increased sensitivity to WEE1 inhibition upon ODF2L loss was accompanied by accumulated DNA damage. ODF2L licensed the recruitment of PKMYT1, a functionally redundant kinase of WEE1, to the CDK1–cyclin B complex and thus restricted the activity of CDK1 when WEE1 was inhibited. Clinically, upregulation of ODF2L correlated with CDK1 activity, DNA damage levels, and sensitivity to WEE1 inhibition in patient-derived EOC cells. Moreover, ODF2L levels predicted the response to WEE1 inhibition in an EOC patient–derived xenograft model. Combination treatment with tumor-targeted lipid nanoparticles that packaged ODF2L siRNA and AZD1775 led to the synergistic attenuation of tumor growth in the ID8 ovarian cancer syngeneic mouse model. These data suggest that WEE1 inhibition is a promising precision therapeutic strategy for EOC cells expressing low levels of ODF2L.

Abstract One of the main reasons for the failure of transformer bushings is moisture penetration. Here, an online monitoring method of moisture in transformer bushings based on an improved humidity indicator card, which belongs to the group of passive physical and chemical monitoring methods, is proposed. First, the operating principles and monitoring system are explained. Next, by means of a moisture simulation device, the moisture migration characteristics between the gas and oil, the influence of the interface radius on the response characteristics of the monitoring device, and the characteristics of the humidity indicator card are studied experimentally. Then, the moisture migration process in micro‐scale is simulated by molecular dynamics simulation. Finally, by changing the mass fraction of the cobalt chloride in the humidity card, the warning values of relative humidity at different temperatures are obtained. The simulation results show that water molecules can migrate from the oil–paper system to the air. Moreover, once the moisture enters the transformer bushing, the proposed humidity indicator card can correctly display the relative humidity at different temperatures. In conclusion, the proposed method provides a new way for online moisture monitoring of transformer bushings.

The accumulation of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in agricultural soils is of particular concern in China, while its status, ecological risks, and human health hazards have been little studied in the permafrost areas of Northeast China. In this study, 75 agricultural soil samples (0–20 cm) were collected from the Arctic Village, Mo’he City, in the northernmost part of China. The average concentration (mean ± standard deviation) of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, and Zn were 12.11 ± 3.66 mg/kg, 0.11 ± 0.08 mg/kg, 52.50 ± 8.83 mg/kg, 12.08 ± 5.12 mg/kg, 0.05 ± 0.02 mg/kg, 14.90 ± 5.35 mg/kg, 22.38 ± 3.04 mg/kg, and 68.07 ± 22.71 mg/kg, respectively. Correlation analysis, cluster analysis, and principal component analysis indicated that As, Cu, Ni, and Zn likely originated from geogenic processes, Hg and Pb from long-range atmospheric transport, Cd from planting activities, and Cr from Holocene alluvium. The geo-accumulation index and enrichment factor showed that As, Cd, Hg, and Zn are enriched in soils. The Nemerow pollution index showed that 66.67%, 24%, and 1.33% of soil samples were in slight, moderate, and heavy pollution levels, respectively, with Hg being the most important element affecting the comprehensive pollution index. The potential ecological risk index showed that 48.00% and 1.33% of soil samples were in the moderate ecological risk and high potential ecological risk levels, respectively. The non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic human health risk index for adults and children were both less than 1, which was within the acceptable range. This study revealed the accumulation pattern of PTEs in agricultural soils of permafrost regions and provided a scientific basis for research on ecological security and human health.

Purple soil is a type of global soil that is referred to by various names in different countries, which makes it difficult to understand, utilize, and ameliorate purple soil internationally. Soil Taxonomy (ST) and the World Reference Base for Soil Resources (WRB) are the most widely used soil classification systems in the world. The aim of this study was to clarify the classification of purple soil in ST and the WRB and to establish a reference between different classification systems of purple soil. Therefore, based on the current principles and methods of the ST and WRB systems, 18 typical purple soil profiles in the eastern Sichuan Basin were identified, retrieved, and classified. Then, the soil units of the WRB were compared with those of ST and the Chinese Soil Taxonomy (CST). The results revealed that the 18 typical purple soil profiles could be classified into three soil orders, four soil group orders, and seven soil subgroups in ST and four reference soil groups (RSGs) in the WRB; each profile had its own unique principal and supplementary qualifier combinations within the soil units. It was found that when compared with the ST system, the WRB and CST systems had stronger abilities to distinguish purple soil. In addition, the WRB system was able to more comprehensively consider soil characteristics such as soil layer thickness, ferric horizon, soil color, texture mutations, and carbonate through qualifiers. However, the CST system added diagnostic characteristics, such as the lithologic characteristics of purplish sandstones and shales and the ferric properties and alic properties at the soil group and subgroup levels, which enhanced the differentiation ability of the purple soil at the subgroup level.

Nickel compounds, an international carcinogen in the industrial environment, increased the risk of lung inflammation even lung cancer in Ni refinery workers. Metformin has displayed the intense anti-inflammation and anti-cancer properties through regulating pyroptosis. This study was designed to explore whether Nickel-refining fumes (NiRF) can induce cell pyroptosis and how AMPK/CREB/Nrf2 mediated the protection afforded by metformin against Ni particles-induced lung impairment. Our results represented that Ni fumes exposure evoked pyroptosis via GOLPH3 and induced oxidative stress, while, metformin treatment alleviated Ni particles-mediated above changes. Moreover, nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) involved in the protection of metformin, and the deficiency of Nrf2 attenuated the beneficial protection. We also determined that Nrf2 was a downstream molecule of AMPK/CREB pathway. Furthermore, male C57BL/6 mice were administered with Ni at a dose of 2 mg/kg by non-exposed endotracheal instillation and metformin (100, 200 and 300 mg/kg) via oral gavage for 4 weeks. The results indicated that NiRF promoted GOLPH3 and pyroptosis by stimulating NLRP3, caspase-1, N-GSDMD, IL-18 and IL-1β expression. However, various doses of metformin reduced GOLPH3 and the above protein levels of pyroptosis, also improved AMPK/CREB/Nrf2 expression. In summary, we found that metformin suppressed NiRF-connected GOLPH3-prompted pyroptosis via AMPK/CREB/Nrf2 signaling pathway to confer pulmonary protection.

Patients with solid cancer have an increased risk of severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and associated mortality than the general population. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the currently available evidence about the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines in patients with solid cancer. We included prospective studies comparing the immunogenicity and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines between patients with solid cancer and healthy individuals. Relative risks of seroconversion after the first and second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine were separately pooled with the use of random effects meta-analysis. Thirty studies with 11,245 subjects met the inclusion criteria. After first vaccine dose, the pooled RR of seroconversion in patients with solid cancer vs healthy individuals was 0.54 (95% CI 0.38–0.78, I2 = 94%). After a second dose, the pooled RR of seroconversion in patients with solid cancer vs healthy controls was 0.87 (0.86–0.88, I2 = 87%). Our review suggests that, compared with healthy individuals, COVID-19 vaccines show favorable immunogenicity and efficacy in patients with solid cancer. A second dose is associated with significantly improved seroconversion, although it is slightly lower in patients with solid cancer compared with healthy individuals.

In several tumors, Nicotinamide N-Methyltransferase (NNMT) was identified as a bridge between methylation metabolism and tumorigenesis and was associated with a poor prognosis. This research aims is to study the prognostic value of NNMT in cancer, its relationship with DNA methylation, and the immune microenvironment. On the basis of the Cancer Genome Atlas and the Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia, Genotype Tissue-Expression, cBioPortal, Cellminer, Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis, Human Protein Atlas and Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium, we used a series of bioinformatics strategies to investigate the potential carcinogenicity of NNMT, including the relationship between NNMT expression and prognosis, tumor mutational burden, microsatellite instability, and sensitivity analysis of anticancer drugs. The GeneMANIA, STRING, and BioGRID databases were examined for protein-protein interactions, and Gene Ontology and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes were used to infer the signal pathway. The results indicated that NNMT was significantly expressed in several tumor tissues compared to the matching non-tumor tissues. Increased NNMT expression was linked to reduced OS, DSS, and DFI. In addition, there was a link between NNMT expression and TMB and MSI in 18 cancer types, and between NNMT expression and DNA methylation in 23 cancer types. Further study of NNMT gene alteration data revealed that deletion was the most prevalent form of NNMT mutation, and that there was a significant negative association between NNMT expression and mismatch repair genes. In addition, there was a strong positive connection between NNMT and immune infiltration in 28 types of tumors, and the immune cells that infiltrated the tumors displayed a characteristic NNMT pattern. According to the enrichment study, cell migration, cell motility, and cell adhesion were highly enriched in biological processes, and NNMT may be associated with the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. By downregulating gene methylation or impacting the immunological microenvironment widely, NNMT may drive carcinogenesis and cause a poor prognosis. Our research showed that NNMT could be used as a biomarker of tumor immune infiltration and poor prognosis, thus providing a unique strategy for cancer therapy.

Accurate and quick building damage assessment is an indispensable step after a destructive earthquake. Acquiring building damage information of the seismic area in a remotely sensed way enables a timely emergency response. Existing remote sensing building damage detection methods based on convolutional neural network (CNN) mainly need two-step processing or only use single post-event image, leading to low efficiency and inaccurate building boundary. Considering the practical needs of emergency rescue and post-disaster reconstruction, this study proposed a hierarchical building damage assessment workflow using CNN-based direct remote sensing change detection on superpixel level. First, vulnerable building areas close to the epicenter are extracted using extra feature enhancement bands (EFEBs) to narrow the extent of image processing. Then, fine scale building damage is detected in the extracted building areas based on a direct change detection method with pre-event superpixel constraint (PreSC) strategy to improve the precision and efficiency. Finally, a rapid remote sensing earthquake damage index (rRSEDI) is used to quantitatively assess the damage. Experimental results of the case study show that damaged buildings can be effectively and accurately localized and classified using the proposed workflow. Comparative experiments with single-temporal image and post-event segmentation further embody the superiority of the direct change detection. The damage assessment result matches the official report after Ludian earthquake, proving the reliability of the proposed workflow. For future natural hazard events, the workflow can contribute to formulating appropriate disaster management, prevention and mitigation policies.
