Abstract The post-landfall decay of tropical cyclones (TC) is often closely linked to the magnitude of damage to the environment, properties, and the loss of human lives. Despite growing interest in how climate change affects TC decay, data uncertainties still prevent a consensus on changes in TC decay rates and related precipitation. Here, after strict data-quality control, we show that the rate of decay of TCs after making landfall in China has significantly slowed down by 45% from 1967 to 2018. We find that, except the warmer sea surface temperature, the eastward shift of TC landfall locations also contributes to the slowdown of TC decay over China. That is TCs making landfall in eastern mainland China (EC) decay slower than that in southern mainland China (SC), and the eastward shift of TCs landfall locations causes more TCs landfalling in EC with slower decay rate. TCs making landfall in EC last longer at sea, carry more moisture upon landfall, and have more favorable dynamic and thermodynamic conditions sustaining them after landfall. Observational evidence shows that the decay of TC-induced precipitation amount and intensity within 48 h of landfall is positively related to the decay rate of landfalling TCs. The significant increase in TC-induced precipitation over the long term, due to the slower decay of landfalling TCs, increases flood risks in China’s coastal areas. Our results highlight evidence of a slowdown in TC decay rates at the regional scale. These findings provide scientific support for the need for better flood management and adaptation strategies in coastal areas under the threat of greater TC-induced precipitation.

Abstract Emerging infestations of bed bugs are affecting normal human lifestyle globally. This study has been designed to optimize the rearing conditions for Cimex lectularius L. (Hemiptera), to support the scientific research on them. Bed bugs have been projected onto three different temperature (20 °C, 25 °C, and 30 °C) and relative humidity (50%, 70%, and 90%) conditions to check their overall growth and survival rate. Adult mortality, weight loss, egg laying, percentage hatching, hatching initiation and completion, nymph mortality, and molting have been evaluated to optimize the best conditions. The temperature at 25 °C with 90% RH showed minimum mortality for adults (female 13.33 ± 3.33% and male 6.67 ± 3.33%) and nymphs (13.33 ± 3.33%), while maximum egg laying (40.33 ± 1.86), with highest percentage hatching (98.23 ± 0.58%). At 30 °C with 90% RH, hatching initiation and completion (5.19 ± 0.12 days and 7.23 ± 0.16 days) as well as molting initiation and completion (3.73 ± 0.12 days and 7.00 ± 0.24 days) were found to be fastest. Thus, it can be concluded that 25 °C with 90% RH is ideal for rearing of adults and 30 °C with 90% RH is appropriate for rapid growth of nymphs.

Background: Cuproptosis, one of the most recently discovered forms of cell death, is induced by the disruption of copper binding to the mitochondrial respiratory acylation components. However, the mechanism underlying cuproptosis in uveal melanoma (UM) has not yet been adequately studied. Methods: RNA and clinical data were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Differentially expressed cuproptosis-related genes were identified by R software. A prognostic signature was constructed by applying LASSO regression and Cox regression models. The associations between the signature and the immune microenvironment, overall survival, and drug sensitivity were studied. In addition, qPCR and Western blotting were performed on UM cells and RPE cell lines to verify the expression levels of the genes encoding dihydrolipoamide dehydrogenase (DLD) and dihydrolipoamide S-succinyltransferase (DLST) in UM cases. Results: Using a cuproptosis-related prognostic signature, UM samples were classified into high- and low-risk groups. A significant difference in overall survival between the two risk groups was evident. Receiver operating characteristic curves demonstrated that the signature is a reliable predictor of prognosis. Immune cell infiltration, drug sensitivity, and immune checkpoint expression were analysed. Significant immune difference between the two high-risk groups was found, and the high expression of immune checkpoints in high-risk groups suggests significant immunotherapy potential. In addition, drug sensitivity analysis experiments suggest that erlotinib may be a potential treatment for high-risk patients. The results of in vitro experiments confirmed that DLD and DLST had higher expression levels in UM cell lines. Conclusions: The prognostic signature developed in this study is a reliable biomarker for predicting the prognosis of UM and may serve as a tool for personalised treatment of patients with UM.

BackgroundThere is limited research on the relationship between Systemic Oxidative Stress (SOS) status and inflammatory indices. Adding onto existing literature, this study aimed to examine the association between dietary Oxidative Balance Score (OBS) and lifestyle OBS (which make up the overall OBS), and Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) prevalence at different Systemic Immune Inflammation Index (SII) and Systemic Inflammatory Response Index (SIRI) levels.MethodsThis study involved 9,451 subjects selected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2007–2018. The OBS comprised 20 dietary and lifestyle factors. Statistical methods included Weighted Linear Regression Analysis (WLRA), Logistic Regression Analysis (LRA), Sensitivity Analysis (SA), and Restricted Cubic Spline (RCS) analysis.ResultsThe multivariate WLRA revealed that OBS was significantly negatively correlated with both SII (β = −5.36, p < 0.001) and SIRI (β = −0.013, p < 0.001) levels. In SA, removing any single OBS component had no significant effect on the WLRA results of SII and SIRI. Further subgroup analyses revealed that OBS was more impactful in lowering SII in women than in men. Additionally, OBS was more significantly negatively correlated with SII and SIRI in the low-age group than in the high-age group. Moreover, RCS analysis confirmed this linear relationship. The gene delivery systems (GDS) for lung cancer (LC) has made significant progress over the past 12 years, yet, there is a great challenge in its clinical application due to low delivery efficiency. This study aims to explore research fields related to gene therapy for LC and predict future directions from a bibliometric perspective. The Web of Science Core Collection collects articles and reviews on GDS for LC published from 2010 to 2022. Comprehensive bibliometric and visual analyses were performed using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, R-Bibliometrix, and Microsoft Excel. The analysis showed that the number of publications on GDS for LC has been increasing over the past 12 years, highlighting the growing interest and research efforts in this area. A rigorous examination of keywords and research hotspots revealed that the themes such as “complex,” “transfection,” “RNA interference,” “extracellular vesicle,” “co-deliver,” “resistance,” etc. dominate the field of GDS for LC. These findings indicated that the research in GDS for LC is evolving, with a noticeable shift toward addressing challenges related to delivery efficiency, transfection methods, and overcoming resistance mechanisms in gene therapy. The comprehensive study provides an overview of the literature on GDS for LC and identifies areas that require further exploration and development. By highlighting emerging research hotspots, our bibliometric analysis offers valuable insights to scholars and researchers, aiding in the identification of gaps, and guiding future efforts toward the development of GDS with more efficiency for LC therapy.

Introduction There has been increasing evidence that the gut microbiota is closely related to type 2 diabetes (T2D). Metformin (Met) is often used in combination with saxagliptin (Sax) and repaglinide (Rep) for the treatment of T2D. However, little is known about the effects of these combination agents on gut microbiota in T2D.Research design and methods A T2D mouse model induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) and streptozotocin (STZ) was employed. The T2D mice were randomly divided into six groups, including sham, Met, Sax, Rep, Met+Sax and Met+Rep, for 4 weeks. Fasting blood glucose level, serum biochemical index, H&E staining of liver, Oil red O staining of liver and microbiota analysis by 16s sequencing were used to access the microbiota in the fecal samples.Results These antidiabetics effectively prevented the development of HFD/STZ-induced high blood glucose, and the combination treatment had a better effect in inhibiting lipid accumulation. All these dosing regimens restored the decreasing ratio of the phylum Bacteroidetes: Firmicutes, and increasing abundance of phylum Desulfobacterota, expect for Met. At the genus level, the antidiabetics restored the decreasing abundance of Muribaculaceae in T2D mice, but when Met was combined with Rep or Sax, the abundance of Muribaculaceae was decreased. The combined treatment could restore the reduced abundance of Prevotellaceae_UCG-001, while Met monotherapy had no such effect. In addition, the reduced Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group was well restored in the combination treatment groups, and the effect was much greater than that in the corresponding monotherapy group. Therefore, these dosing regimens exerted different effects on the composition of gut microbiota, which might be associated with the effect on T2D.Conclusions Supplementation with specific probiotics may further improve the hypoglycemic effects of antidiabetics and be helpful for the development of new therapeutic drugs for T2D.

Himalayan leucogranite is an excellent target for understanding the orogenic process of the India–Asia collision, but its origin and tectonic significance are still under debate. An integrated study of geochronology, geochemistry, and in situ Sr-Nd-Hf isotopes was conducted for a tourmaline-bearing leucogranite in the eastern Tethyan Himalaya using LA-ICP-MS, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, and ICP-MS and LA-MC-ICP-MS, respectively. LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating of zircon and monazite showed that it was emplaced at ~19 Ma. The leucogranite had high SiO2 and Al2O3 contents ranging from 73.16 to 73.99 wt.% and 15.05 to 15.24 wt.%, respectively. It was characterized by a high aluminum saturation index (1.14–1.19) and Rb/Sr ratio (3.58–6.35), which is characteristic of S-type granite. The leucogranite was enriched in light rare-earth elements (LREEs; e.g., La and Ce) and large ion lithophile elements (LILEs; e.g., Rb, K, and Pb) and depleted in heavy rare-earth elements (e.g., Tm, Yb, and Lu) and high field strength elements (HFSEs; e.g., Nb, Zr, and Ti). It was characterized by high I Sr (t) (0.7268–0.7281) and low ε Nd (t) (−14.6 to −13.2) and ε Hf (t) (−12.6 to −9.47), which was consistent with the isotopic characteristics of the Higher Himalayan Sequence. Petrogenetically, the origin of the leucogranite is best explained by the decompression-induced muscovite dehydration melting of an ancient metapelitic source within the Higher Himalayan Sequence during regional extension due to the movement of the South Tibetan Detachment System (STDS). The significantly high lithium and beryllium contents of the leucogranite and associated pegmatite suggest that Himalayan leucogranites possess huge potential for lithium and beryllium exploration.

Asymmetries in the human vascular system and cardiovascular disease are widespread. Vascular physiological asymmetry can manifest in the morphological structure and blood flow state, whereas pathological asymmetry can reflect differences in the occurrence and cure of bilateral vascular diseases. The causes associated with these asymmetrical differences may be demand-driven or due to vascular grading or asymmetries in other physiological systems. This article aims to review the asymmetry of several typical arteries, including cerebral, cervical, and limb arteries, and lists possible causes to emphasize the necessity of considering asymmetric factors in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of vascular diseases. Future research on asymmetries in the vascular system may improve the risk assessment and personalized treatment of vascular diseases.

Objective: The purpose of the study is to assess parents’ experiences and associate demographic characteristics of parents and children with temper tantrum behavior characteristics of preschool children. Methods: A descriptive survey approach was used to conduct this study. A non-probability purposive sampling technique was adopted to recruit 121 parents of children aged between 3-6 years visiting a selected tertiary care hospital in India. All parents completed the parents’ experience of temper tan- trums in the children’s questionnaire. The analysis of results was carried out on IBM SPSS Software version 23.0. Results: A moderate level of temper tantrums showed on the mother’s age, education, occupation, marital status, program attendance, and medical and mental illness in the family, whereas a family’s monthly income above 50,000 indicated a severe level of temper tantrums, and half of the children ex- perienced tantrum behavior to get the attention of their parents, hungry and tired. The most frequently reported tantrum behavior was throwing things and hitting parents and siblings, and most tantrums occurred in public places and in vehicles. The majority of the parents adopted strategies to distract their child’s attention by helping the child talk about the causes of anger. A significant association was found between temper tantrum behavior and demographic characteristics of the marital status of parents (x2 = 15.340, p = 0.002) and the awareness program attended regarding temper tantrums in children (x2 = 4.491, p = 0.034). Conclusion: As temper tantrums peak in the toddler age group, the present study found that parental involvement is a necessity to manage temper tantrums in preschoolers as well. The main parent’s strategies to control the tantrum were distraction of child attention and helped them to talk about the causes of tantrum. Therefore, the study emphasizes the necessity of the involvement of parents and family members.

BackgroundPrevious studies have demonstrated enhanced efficacy of vaccine formulations that incorporate the chemokine macrophage inflammatory protein 3α (MIP-3α) to direct vaccine antigens to immature dendritic cells. To address the reduction in vaccine efficacy associated with a mutation in severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) mutants, we have examined the ability of receptor-binding domain vaccines incorporating MIP-3α to sustain higher concentrations of antibody when administered intramuscularly (IM) and to more effectively elicit lung T-cell responses when administered intranasally (IN).MethodsBALB/c mice aged 6–8 weeks were immunized intramuscularly or intranasally with DNA vaccine constructs consisting of the SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain alone or fused to the chemokine MIP-3α. In a small-scale (n = 3/group) experiment, mice immunized IM with electroporation were followed up for serum antibody concentrations over a period of 1 year and for bronchoalveolar antibody levels at the termination of the study. Following IN immunization with unencapsulated plasmid DNA (n = 6/group), mice were evaluated at 11 weeks for serum antibody concentrations, quantities of T cells in the lungs, and IFN-γ- and TNF-α-expressing antigen-specific T cells in the lungs and spleen.ResultsAt 12 months postprimary vaccination, recipients of the IM vaccine incorporating MIP-3α had significantly, approximately threefold, higher serum antibody concentrations than recipients of the vaccine not incorporating MIP-3α. The area-under-the-curve analyses of the 12-month observation interval demonstrated significantly greater antibody concentrations over time in recipients of the MIP-3α vaccine formulation. At 12 months postprimary immunization, only recipients of the fusion vaccine had concentrations of serum-neutralizing activity deemed to be effective. After intranasal immunization, only recipients of the MIP-3α vaccine formulations developed T-cell responses in the lungs significantly above those of PBS controls. Low levels of serum antibody responses were obtained following IN immunization.ConclusionAlthough requiring separate IM and IN immunizations for optimal immunization, incorporating MIP-3α in a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine construct demonstrated the potential of a stable and easily produced vaccine formulation to provide the extended antibody and T-cell responses that may be required for protection in the setting of emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants. Without electroporation, simple, uncoated plasmid DNA incorporating MIP-3α administered intranasally elicited lung T-cell responses.

Summary: The Southeast Asia Region (SEAR) accounts for nearly 50% of the developing world's stroke burden. With various commonalities across its countries concerning health services, user awareness, and healthcare-seeking behavior, SEAR still presents profound diversities in stroke-related services across the continuum of care. This review highlights the numerous systems and challenges in access to stroke care, acute stroke care services, and health care systems, including rehabilitation. The paper has also attempted to compile information on the availability of stroke specialized centers, Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) ready centers, Endovascular therapy (EVT) ready centers, rehabilitation centers, and workforce against a backdrop of each country's population. Lastly, the efforts of WHO (SEARO)-CMCL (World Health Organization-South East Asia region, Christian Medical College & Hospital Ludhiana) collaboration towards improving stroke services and capacity among the SEAR have been described.

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of the primary sources of energy and nutrients needed by the body, and rice resistant starch (RRS) has been found to have hypoglycemic effects. However, its biological activity and specific mechanisms still need to be further elucidated. In the present study, 52 RRS differential metabolites were obtained from mouse liver, rat serum, canine feces, and human urine, and 246 potential targets were identified through a literature review and database analysis. A total of 151 common targets were identified by intersecting them with the targets of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). After network pharmacology analysis, 11 core metabolites were identified, including linolenic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid, ursodeoxycholic acid, deoxycholic acid, lithocholic acid, lithocholylglycine, glycoursodeoxycholic acid, phenylalanine, norepinephrine, cholic acid, and L-glutamic acid, and 16 core targets were identified, including MAPK3, MAPK1, EGFR, ESR1, PRKCA, FYN, LCK, DLG4, ITGB1, IL6, PTPN11, RARA, NR3C1, PTPN6, PPARA, and ITGAV. The core pathways included the neuroactive ligand–receptor interaction, cancer, and arachidonic acid metabolism pathways. The molecular docking results showed that bile acids such as glycoursodeoxycholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid, ursodeoxycholic acid, lithocholic acid, deoxycholic acid, and cholic acid exhibited strong docking effects with EGFR, ITGAV, ITGB1, MAPK3, NR3C1, α-glucosidase, and α-amylase. In vitro hypoglycemic experiments further suggested that bile acids showed significant inhibitory effects on α-glucosidase and α-amylase, with CDCA and UDCA having the most prominent inhibitory effect. In summary, this study reveals a possible hypoglycemic pathway of RRS metabolites and provides new research perspectives to further explore the therapeutic mechanism of bile acids in T2DM.

Abstract Background Personal protection measures using insecticide-treated fabric is one of the most effective strategies to prevent the bites of hematophagous insects. Many countries have had success treating fabrics with pyrethroids on an individual level. Methods In the current study, a new combination of insecticides, alpha-cypermethrin (ACP) and deltamethrin (DET), has been impregnated on fabric composed of a 50:50 blend of polyester and cotton. Residual and morphological analysis was performed along with the evaluation of physical parameters. Biological evaluations were performed to check the repellency, knockdown, and mortality of insecticide-impregnated fabric (IIF) against bed bugs (Cimex lectularius) using Petri plate assay and mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus) using cone bioassay. Results The results showed the repellency of IIF to be 56.6% for C. lectularius and a knockdown percentage of 53.3% and 63.3% for Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus, respectively. A > 80% mortality was found for both species of mosquitoes up to 20 cycles of washing with no significant difference (P > 0.05). From high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis, the reduction in the contents of ACP and DET after subsequent washes can be correlated with the overall decrease in bioefficacy. ACP and DET remaining in unit gram of fabric after 20 wash cycles were found to be 5.4 mg and 3.1 mg, respectively. By examining the fabric’s surface morphology using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and utilizing energy-dispersive x-ray (EDX) analysis, it was possible to identify the presence of insecticides that were adhered to the fabric. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed distinctive endothermic peak of insecticide at 98.3 ºC, whereas no change in thermal behavior was observed from thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA). Furthermore, the physical attributes of IIF provide conclusive evidence for its firmness. Conclusion All experimental findings were consistent with the potential use of IIF as a bed bug- and mosquito-repellent fabric to be used against hematophagous infestations. This fabric can serve as a potential strategy to control vector-borne diseases like dengue, malaria, trench fever, etc. Graphical Abstract

Chongqing, as the last ecological barrier of the Upper Yangtze River, is constrained to achieve “dual carbon” goals due to imbalanced energy structure. Based on selecting the energy structure influencing factors through Copula function and Granger causality, a multi-dimensional dynamic support vector machine model (SSA-MFD-SVR-ARIMA) by adopting sparrow algorithm was constructed to predict the proportion of Chongqing's energy structure from 2021 to 2030 under the drive of green finance development, and an optimization path was obtained. The novel findings confirm that (1) the correlated contribution rate of Green Finance to optimizing Chongqing's Energy Structure is 10.8 %; (2) under the sustained growth rate of Green Finance at 4.5 %, the proportion of coal consumption will reach 40.03 % by 2030, and non-fossil energy consumption will account for 27 %. It confirms that Chongqing can achieve the Energy Development Plan assigned by the Central Government in 2025. The research proposes a four-dimensional optimized pathway from a financial perspective that includes green equity investments, digital finance for energy, financing environmental rights and interests, and developing an industry fund. Furthermore, our put forward the safeguard strategies for financing, innovation, linkage, and protection mechanisms of this pathway optimization.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are important regulatory molecules involved in various biological processes. However, the potential function of circRNAs in the turning red process of Quercus mongolica leaves is unclear. This study used RNA-seq data to identify 6228 circRNAs in leaf samples from four different developmental stages and showed that 88 circRNAs were differentially expressed. A correlation analysis was performed between anthocyanins and the circRNAs. A total of 16 circRNAs that may be involved in regulating the colour of Mongolian oak leaves were identified. CircRNAs may affect the colour of Q. mongolica leaves by regulating auxin, cytokinin, gibberellin, ethylene, and abscisic acid. This study revealed the potential role of circRNAs in the colour change of Q. mongolica leaves.

Mongolian oak (Quercus mongolica) is a common building material and landscaping tree species in northern China, with significant economic and ecological value. Its seedling growth is inhibited by high light intensity, but the mechanism by which light stress affects the growth and development of its seedlings remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the phenotypes, physiological processes, and molecular responses of 3-year-old Mongolian oak seedlings under different light treatments: full light (Sck), light shading (S1; 40% light), moderate shading (S2; 20% light), and severe shading (S3; 3% light). Compared to Sck, the S1 and S2 treatments resulted in higher leaf area, photosynthetic pigment content, photosynthesis rates, soluble sugar contents, and soluble protein contents in Mongolian oak seedlings. The S1 and S2 treatments also promoted seedling height and diameter growth and resulted in lower degrees of membrane lipid peroxidation, cell membrane permeability, and antioxidant enzyme activity. In contrast, severe shading (S3) significantly inhibited seedling height and diameter growth due to the lower net photosynthetic rate, and exhibiting higher degrees of membrane lipid peroxidation and cell membrane permeability. Shading treatments (S1 and S2) alleviated the negative effects of strong light on the growth and development of Mongolian oak seedlings, with the S2 treatment having the greatest effect. However, severe shading (S3) inhibited growth and development. A total of 3726 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were detected in leaves under different shading treatments in RNA sequencing analysis. Among these, 1691, 3150, and 824 DEGs were detected in the Sck-S1, Sck-S2, and S1-S2 comparison groups, respectively. The different shading treatments determined common expression regulation pathways, including carotenoid biosynthesis, photosynthetic antenna proteins, and mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal transduction. Shading induced increases in gene expression levels in light harvesting complexes, which are related to changes in gene expression in the photosynthetic system, leading to changes in photosynthetic physiology. The expression levels of genes related to reactive oxygen species signal perception and activation enzymes were upregulated in Sck. Together, these findings revealed the response mechanisms of Mongolian oak seedlings to different shading levels at the physiological and molecular levels, providing a scientific basis and technical support for the cultivation and large-scale production of Mongolian oak seedlings.

In this study, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) based untargeted metabolomics was used to describe the changes of metabolites in edible grass with Lactobacillus plantarum (Lp) fermentation durations of 0 and 7 days, and subsequently to investigate the protective effect of fermented edible grass on acetaminophen-induced stress injury in HepG2 cells. Results showed that 53 differential metabolites were identified, including 31 significantly increased and 22 significantly decreased metabolites in fermented edible grass. Fermented edible grass protected HepG2 cells against acetaminophen-induced stress injury, which profited from the reduction in lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and the enhancement in superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. Cell metabolomics analysis revealed that a total of 13 intracellular and 20 extracellular differential metabolites were detected. Fermented edible grass could regulate multiple cell metabolic pathways to exhibit protective effects on HepG2 cells. These findings provided theoretical guidance for the formation and regulation of bioactive metabolites in fermented edible grass and preliminarily confirmed the protective effects of fermented edible grass on drug-induced liver damage.

Based on the observations of hourly precipitation for 131 years from Hong Kong Observatory Headquarters, this study examined the long-term changes in the characteristics of hourly precipitation extremes in terms of intensity, total precipitation amount, duration, and frequency. Results show that the hourly precipitation extremes have significantly intensified by 29%–38% from 1885 to 2022. The 131-year observations evidence that the more extreme the hourly precipitation is (i.e. higher percentiles), the faster the increasing rate it has. Specifically, the magnitudes of hourly precipitation with the 95th, 97.5th, 99th, and 99.9th percentiles increased by rates of 0.03 mm, 0.05 mm, 0.07 mm, and 0.12 mm per year, respectively. Through the secular trend analysis, we found that only the maximum intensity of extreme precipitation events (i.e. events with maximum intensity exceeding the 95th percentiles) shows a significant increasing trend during 1885–2022, while the trends in the total precipitation amount, duration, and mean intensity are not significant. However, by comparing the percentile bin values between three sub-periods of the 131-year record, we found a significant rise over time in the total precipitation amount, mean intensity, and maximum intensity of extreme precipitation events with different intensities (i.e. 95th, 96th, 97th, 98th, and 99th percentiles), while the change in the duration is not significant. The analysis of the frequency of precipitation events shows significant increases in the proportion of extreme precipitation events during 1885–2022. The observations of 53 stations across Hong Kong from 1986 to 2022 show significant intensification and increasing frequency in the hourly precipitation extremes in most areas of Hong Kong. Meanwhile, the precipitation duration shows a decreasing tendency, which may explain the insignificant changes in the total precipitation amount. These findings provide important insights into the longer-term variations in the characteristics of hourly precipitation extremes.

Abstract In July 2021, Typhoon In‐Fa produced record‐breaking extreme precipitation events (hereafter referred to as the 2021 EPEs) in central and eastern China, and caused serious socioeconomic losses and casualties. However, it is still unknown whether the 2021 EPEs can be attributed to anthropogenic climate change (ACC) and how the occurrence probabilities of precipitation events of a similar magnitude might evolve in the future. The 2021 EPEs in central (eastern) China occurred in the context of no linear trend (a significantly increasing trend at a rate of 4.44%/decade) in the region‐averaged Rx5day (summer maximum 5‐day accumulated precipitation) percentage precipitation anomaly (PPA), indicating that global warming might have no impact on the 2021 EPE in central China but might have impacted the 2021 EPE in eastern China by increasing the long‐term trend of EPEs. Using the scaled generalized extreme value distribution, we detected a slightly negative (significantly positive) association of the Rx5day PPA time series in central (eastern) China with the global mean temperature anomaly, suggesting that global warming might have no (a detectable) contribution to the changes in occurrence probability of precipitation extremes like the 2021 EPEs in central (eastern) China. Historical attributions (1961–2020) showed that the likelihood of the 2021 EPE in central/eastern China decreased/increased by approximately +47% (−23% to +89%)/+55% (−45% to +201%) due to ACC. By the end of the 21st century, the likelihood of precipitation extremes similar to the 2021 EPE in central/eastern China under SSP585 is 14 (9–19)/15 (9–20) times higher than under historical climate conditions.

To evaluate the impact of phosphorus (P) combined with exogenous NAA on flax yield, enhance flax P utilization efficiency and productivity, minimize resource inputs and mitigate negative environmental and human effects. Therefore, it is crucial to comprehend the physiological and biochemical responses of flax to P and naphthylacetic acid (NAA) in order to guide future agronomic management strategies for increasing seed yield. A randomized complete block design trial was conducted under semi-arid conditions in Northwest China, using a factorial split-plot to investigate the effects of three P (0, 67.5, and 135.0 kg P2O5 ha–1) and three exogenous spray NAA levels (0, 20, and 40 mg NAA L–1) on sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS) and diphosphoribulose carboxylase (Rubisco) activities as well as nitrogen (N) and P accumulation and translocation in flax. Results indicated that the SPS and Rubisco activities, N and P accumulation at flowering and maturity along with assimilation and translocation post-flowering, fruiting branches per plant, tillers per plant, capsules per plant, and seed yield were 95, 105, 14, 27, 55, 15, 13, 110, 103, 82, 16, 61, 8, and 13% greater in the P treatments compared to those in the zero P treatment, respectively. Moreover, those characteristics were observed to be greater with exogenous spray NAA treatments compared to that no spray NAA treatment. Additionally, the maximum SPS and Rubisco activities, N and P accumulation, assimilation post-flowering and translocation, capsules per plant, and seed yield were achieved with the application of 67.5 kg P2O5 ha–1 with 20 mg NAA L–1. Therefore, these findings demonstrate that the appropriate combination of P fertilizer and spray NAA is an effective agronomic management strategy for regulating carbon and nitrogen assimilation by maintaining photosynthetic efficiency in plants to increase flax productivity.

Summary: Human epiphyseal development has been mainly investigated through radiological and histological approaches, uncovering few details of cellular temporal genetic alternations. Using single-cell RNA sequencing, we investigated the dynamic transcriptome changes during post-conception weeks (PCWs) 15–25 of human distal femoral epiphysis cells. We find epiphyseal cells contain multiple subtypes distinguished by specific markers, gene signatures, Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis, and gene set variation analysis (GSVA). We identify the populations committed to cartilage or ossification at this time, although the secondary ossification centers (SOCs) have not formed. We describe the temporal alternation in transcriptional expression utilizing trajectories, transcriptional regulatory networks, and intercellular communication analyses. Moreover, we find the emergence of the ossification-committed population is correlated with the COL2A1-(ITGA2/11+ITGB1) signaling. NOTCH signaling may contribute to the formation of cartilage canals and ossification via NOTCH signaling. Our findings will advance the understanding of single-cell genetic changes underlying fetal epiphysis development.

IntroductionThe type III effector RipAA of Ralstonia solanacearum GMI1000 plays a critical role in the incompatible interaction on Nicotiana benthamiana.MethodsThe RipAA was transiently expressed in N. benthamiana by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Chemical staining with trypan blue and DAB were conducted to examine the cell death and the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), respectively. The expression of the marker genes for salicylic acid (SA) and jasmonic acid (JA) signaling was evaluated by quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR). The proteins interacted with RipAA was identified from N. benthamiana by yeast two-hybrid and pull-down assays. A TRV-mediated gene silencing was used to assess the role of host gene in response to RipAA expression and R. solanacearum infection.Results and discussionRipAA induced the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and genome DNA degradation in N. benthamiana, which were accompanied by a hypersensitive reaction. Simultaneously, the marker genes for salicylic acid (SA) signaling were induced and those for jasmonic acid (JA) signaling were reduced. N. benthamiana chloroplastic AtpB, the ATPase β subunit, was identified as an interactor with RipAA. The silencing of atpB in N. benthamiana resulted in the inability of RipAA to induce a hypersensitive response, a compatible interaction with GMI1000, and an enhanced sensitivity to bacterial wilt. Our data support the concept that RipAA determines host-range specificity by targeting the host chloroplastic AtpB.

Study region: Hong Kong is a megalopolis located on the southeast coast of China. Study focus: Megalopolis located in low-lying coastal areas such as Hong Kong is especially vulnerable to compound flood risks from multiple flood drivers (e.g., heavy rainstorms and extreme sea levels). Using long-term hydrological observations and socio-economic data, this study aims to reveal the risks, causes and socio-economic impacts of compound floods from precipitation and sea level in Hong Kong. New hydrological insights for the region: We find that the most extreme sea levels are mostly accompanied by heavy precipitation and thus lead to compound floods, while the most extreme precipitation events are less likely to coincide with extreme sea levels. TCs are the major trigger of compound floods with fractional contributions ranging from 48.8% to 83.8% in the gauges. Typhoon Wanda (1962) triggered the most severe compound flood with a joint return period of 178 years which is much shorter than the return period (>10,000 years) without the consideration of the dependence between the extremes. During the past decades, Hong Kong has experienced an increase in compound flood hazards, which is mainly attributed to the mean sea level rise. Socio-economic data reveals that TCs associated with compound floods are more destructive than TCs that induced single-type floods, highlighting the urgent need to establish a multi-hazard flood risk management strategy.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have unique absorption and emission properties that stem from their large excitonic binding energies, reduced-dielectric screening, and strong spin–orbit coupling. However, the role of substrates, phonons, and material defects in the excitonic scattering processes remains elusive. In tungsten-based TMDs, it is known that the excitons formed from electrons in the lower-energy conduction bands are dark in nature, whereas low-energy emissions in the photoluminescence spectrum have been linked to the brightening of these transitions, either via defect scattering or via phonon scattering with first-order phonon replicas. Through temperature and incident-power-dependent studies of WS2 grown by CVD or exfoliated from high-purity bulk crystal on different substrates, we demonstrate that the strong exciton–phonon coupling yields brightening of dark transitions up to sixth-order phonon replicas. We discuss the critical role of defects in the brightening pathways of dark excitons and their phonon replicas, and we elucidate that these emissions are intrinsic to the material and independent of substrate, encapsulation, growth method, and transfer approach.

Dowsonite, as the main carbon-fixing mineral, is an orthorhombic carbonate mineral containing water, sodium and aluminum. The carbon capture of dawsonite in the reservoir rocks accounts for 42.2%-90.1% of the total carbon sequestration. Dawsonite is widely distributed across the globe, especially in Europe and Asia. Dawsonite mostly occurs in Permian, Triassic, Cretaceous, and Paleogene formations, and exists in the medium to shallow layer of 1,000–2,200 m. The dawsonite found worldwide has three main occurrences: metasomatism, cementation, and filling. The former two are more common than the last type of occurrence. The dawsonite stems from two major sources: inorganic and organic. The inorganic origins include magmatic activity, and the dissolution or pyrolysis of carbonate rocks. Most of the dawsonites found worldwide are of inorganic origin, mainly due to magmatic activity, and only a few are due to the dissolution or pyrolysis of carbonate rocks. The formation of dawsonite is affected by various factors, such as precursor mineral, rock type, pH, and the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (CO2). Multiple minerals, namely, plagioclase, sodium feldspar, potassium feldspar, montmorillonite, and mica, can serve as the precursor minerals of dawsonite. Among them, plagioclase is the most favorable precursor mineral for the formation of dawsonite. Dawsonite occurs in a wide range of rock types, and feldspar sandstone is the best rock type for dawsonite. Natural dawsonite forms under the temperature range of 25-200 °C, while artificial dawsonite can be synthetized under 60-180 °C. The dawsonite dissolves at about 150 °C. Most evidences suggest that dawsonite is formed and tends to be stable in an alkaline environment. But some scholars argue that dawsonite is formed in a neutral-weakly acidic fluid environment. It is generally agreed that that dawsonite is formed under high CO2 partial pressure. Dawsonite is not only a tracer mineral of CO2 [1], but also the main carbon-fixing mineral for underground CO2 storage.

Quercus mongolica is a common landscape, afforestation, and construction timber species in northern China with high ecological, economic, and ornamental value. Leaf senescence is a complex process that has important implications for plant growth and development. To explore changes of metabolites during the ageing of Quercus mongolica leaves, we investigated physiological responses and metabolite composition in ageing leaves harvested from 15-20-year-old Quercus mongolica. Leaf samples of Q. mongolica were collected when they were still green (at maturity) (stage 1), during early senescence (stage 2), and during late senescence (stage 3). These leaves were then subjected to physiological index and metabolome sequencing analyses. The physiological analysis showed that the leaves of Q. mongolica changed from green to yellow during senescence, which induced significant accumulation of soluble sugar and significant reductions in the concentration of soluble protein and chlorophyll. Peroxidase and catalase were the main antioxidant enzymes mitigating leaf senescence. Metabolomic analysis identified 797 metabolites during leaf senescence. Compared to stage 1, 70 differential metabolites were screened in stage 2 and 72 were screened in stage 3. Differential metabolites in the two senescent stages were principally enriched in amino acid metabolism, lipid metabolism and secondary metabolite biosynthesis. The contents of N-oleoylethanolamine and N, N-dimethylglycine were significantly increased only in stage 2, while the contents of trifolin, astragalin, valine, isoleucine, leucine, and citric acid were significantly increased only in stage 3. Histidine, homoserine, tryptophan, tyrosine, phenylalanine, proline, norleucine, N-glycyl-L-leucine, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, gallic acid, 3-indoleacrylic acid, 3-amino-2-naphthoic acid, 3-hydroxy-3-methylpentane-1,5-dioic acid, 2,3,4-trihydroxybenzoic acid, trifolin, astragalin, DL-2-aminoadipic acid, pinoresinol dimethyl ether, dimethylmatairesinol, and lysophosphatidylcholine increased during both stage 2 and stage 3. Increasing contents of these metabolites may constitute the main mechanism by which Q. mongolica leaves adapt to senescence.

PurposeProliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) is a disease process resulting from proliferation of retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells in the vitreous and periretinal area, leading to periretinal membrane formation and traction and eventually to postoperative failure after vitreo-retinal surgery for primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). The present study was designed to test the therapeutic potential of a p21CIP/WAF1 (p21) inducing saRNA for PVR.MethodsA chemically modified p21 saRNA (RAG1-40-53) was tested in cultured human RPE cells for p21 induction and for the inhibition of cell proliferation, migration and cell cycle progression. RAG1-40-53 was further conjugated to a cholesterol moiety and tested for pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in rabbit eyes and for therapeutic effects after intravitreal administration in a rabbit PVR model established by injecting human RPE cells.ResultsRAG1-40-53 (0.3 mg, 1 mg) significantly induced p21 expression in RPE cells and inhibited cell proliferation, the progression of cell cycle at the G0/G1 phase and TGF-β1 induced migration. After a single intravitreal injection into rabbit eyes, cholesterol-conjugated RAG1-40-53 exhibited sustained concentration in the vitreal humor beyond at least 8 days and prevented the progression of established PVR.Conclusionp21 saRNA could represent a novel therapeutics for PVR by exerting a antiproliferation and antimigration effect on RPE cells.

Clematis is one of the large worldwide genera of the Ranunculaceae Juss. Family, with high ornamental and medicinal value. China is the modern distribution centre of Clematis with abundant natural populations. Due to the complexity and high morphological diversity of Clematis, the genus is difficult to classify systematically, and in particular, the phylogenetic position of the endangered Clematis acerifolia is highly controversial. The use of the mitochondrial complete genome is a powerful molecular method that is frequently used for inferring plants phylogenies. However, studies on Clematis mitogenome are rare, thus limiting our full understanding of its phylogeny and genome evolution. Here, we sequenced and annotated the C. acerifolia mt genome using Illumina short- and Nanopore long-reads, characterized the species first complete mitogenome, and performed a comparative phylogenetic analysis with its close relatives. The total length of the C. acerifolia mitogenome is 698,247 bp and the main structure is multi-branched (linear molecule 1 and circular molecule 2). We annotated 55 genes, including 35 protein-coding, 17 tRNA, and 3 rRNA genes. The C. acerifolia mitogenome has extremely unconserved structurally, with extensive sequence transfer between the chloroplast and mitochondrial organelles, sequence repeats, and RNA editing. The phylogenetic position of C. acerifolia was determined by constructing the species mitogenome with 24 angiosperms. Further, our C. acerifolia mitogenome characteristics investigation included GC contents, codon usage, repeats and synteny analysis. Overall, our results are expected to provide fundamental information for C. acerifolia mitogenome evolution and confirm the validity of mitochondrial analysis in determining the phylogenetic positioning of Clematis plants.

Shale oil has become an important alternative resource for conventional hydrocarbon resources. There are many areas with great exploration potential for shale oil worldwide, but the degree of exploration is relatively low. This study focuses on the shale oil reservoirs in the Tiaohu Depression of Santanghu Basin, northeast of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. We used pore permeability with 50 samples of saturation, thin section identification, high-pressure mercury injection, low-temperature nitrogen adsorption, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and according to these measurement technologies, we found that the study area is mainly composed of a set of basic-moderate volcaniclastic sediment; the shale reservoir is dense, with higher oil saturation; the fracture development zone is a movable desert area; and tuffaceous secondary pore formation is the main object of dissolution. It contains a variety of reservoir spaces, which are conducive to shale oil enrichment. The reservoir characteristics, microscopic pore structure, and origins of geological sweet spots are systematically analyzed, which provides research direction for shale oil exploration.

Abstract The convergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), or AIoT, has breathed a new life into IoT operations and human-machine interactions. Currently, resource-constrained IoT devices usually cannot provide sufficient capability for data storage and processing so as to support building modern AI models. An intuitive solution is to integrate cloud computing technology into AIoT and exploit the powerful and elastic computing as well as the storage capacity of the servers on the cloud end. Nevertheless, the network bandwidth and communication latency increasingly become serious bottlenecks. The emerging edge computing can complement the cloud-based AIoT in terms of communication latency, and hence attracts more and more attention from the AIoT area. In this paper, we present an industrial edge-cloud collaborative computing platform, namely Sophon Edge, that helps to build and deploy AIoT applications efficiently. As an enterprise-level solution for the AIoT computing paradigm, Sophon Edge adopts a pipeline-based computing model for streaming data from IoT devices. Besides, this platform supports an iterative way for model evolution and updating so as to enable the AIoT applications agile and data-driven. Through a real-world example, we demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of building an AIoT application based on the Sophon Edge platform.

Quercus mongolica, a common tree species for building and landscaping in northern China, has great commercial and ecological value. The seedlings of Q. mongolica grow poorly and develop chlorosis when introduced from high-altitude mountains to low-altitude plains. Effective cultivation measures are key to improving the quality of seedlings. To investigate the complex responses of Q. mongolica to different cultivation measures, we compared the adaptability of 3-year-old Q. mongolica seedlings to pruning (P), irrigation (W), and fertilization [F (nitro compound fertilizer with 16N-16P-16K)]. Physiological measurements and transcriptome sequencing were performed on leaves collected under the P treatments (control, cutting, removal of all lateral branches, and removal of base branches to one-third of seedling height), the W treatments (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 times in sequence), and the F treatments (0, 2, 4, and 6 g/plant). Analyses of the physiological data showed that P was more effective than W or F for activating intracellular antioxidant systems. By contrast, W and F were more beneficial than P for inducing the accumulation of soluble sugar. OPLS-DA identified superoxide dismutase, malondialdehyde, and peroxidase as critical physiological indices for the three cultivation measures. Transcriptome analyses revealed 1,012 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the P treatment, 1,035 DEGs in the W treatment, and 1,175 DEGs in the F treatment; these DEGs were mainly enriched in Gene Ontology terms related to the stress response and signal transduction. Weighted gene coexpression network analyses indicated that specific gene modules were significantly correlated with MDA (one module) and soluble sugar (four modules). Functional annotation of the hub genes differentially expressed in MDA and soluble sugar-related modules revealed that Q. mongolica responded and adapted to different cultivation measures by altering signal transduction, hormone levels, reactive oxygen species, metabolism, and transcription factors. The hub genes HOP3, CIPK11, WRKY22, and BHLH35 in the coexpression networks may played a central role in responses to the cultivation practices. These results reveal the mechanism behind the response of Q. mongolica to different cultivation measures at the physiological and molecular levels and provide insight into the response of plants to cultivation measures.

Objectives We verified subnational (state/union territory (UT)/district) claims of achievements in reducing tuberculosis (TB) incidence in 2020 compared with 2015, in India.Design A community-based survey, analysis of programme data and anti-TB drug sales and utilisation data.Setting National TB Elimination Program and private TB treatment settings in 73 districts that had filed a claim to the Central TB Division of India for progress towards TB-free status.Participants Each district was divided into survey units (SU) and one village/ward was randomly selected from each SU. All household members in the selected village were interviewed. Sputum from participants with a history of anti-TB therapy (ATT), those currently experiencing chest symptoms or on ATT were tested using Xpert/Rif/TrueNat. The survey continued until 30 Mycobacterium tuberculosis cases were identified in a district.Outcome measures We calculated a direct estimate of TB incidence based on incident cases identified in the survey. We calculated an under-reporting factor by matching these cases within the TB notification system. The TB notification adjusted for this factor was the estimate by the indirect method. We also calculated TB incidence from drug sale data in the private sector and drug utilisation data in the public sector. We compared the three estimates of TB incidence in 2020 with TB incidence in 2015.Results The estimated direct incidence ranged from 19 (Purba Medinipur, West Bengal) to 1457 (Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya) per 100 000 population. Indirect estimates of incidence ranged between 19 (Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli) and 788 (Dumka, Jharkhand) per 100 000 population. The incidence using drug sale data ranged from 19 per 100 000 population in Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli to 651 per 100 000 population in Centenary, Maharashtra.Conclusion TB incidence in 1 state, 2 UTs and 35 districts had declined by at least 20% since 2015. Two districts in India were declared TB free in 2020.

In this work, spontaneously fermented and inoculation-fermented Akebia trifoliata fruit Jiaosu (SFAJ/IFAJ) were compared. The key metabolites and antioxidant activities of SFAJ and IFAJ were tracked and tested during fermentation. The antioxidant effect of fermented Akebia trifoliata fruit and the underlying mechanisms were explored using network pharmacology for the prediction and verification of the molecular targets and pathways of the Akebia trifoliata fruit’s action against oxidative stress. Furthermore, the results were verified by molecular docking and then investigated, based on a HepG2 cell model. The results of correlation analysis and principal component analysis (PCA) showed that there were significant positive correlations between the phenols, flavonoids, and terpenoids in SFAJ and IFAJ and their antioxidant activities. Network pharmacology and molecular docking analysis disclosed the antioxidation mechanism at the molecular level. In addition, both SFAJ and IFAJ were effective at alleviating oxidative stress in HepG2 cells. In particular, IFAJ performed better than SFAJ in protecting cells with an intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) level of 99.96 ± 4.07 U/mg prot, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity of 41.56 ± 0.06 U/mg prot, catalase (CAT) activity of 91.78 ± 3.85 U/mg prot, and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity of 39.32 ± 2.75 mU/mg prot in the IFAJ group. Collectively, this study revealed the changes in bioactive metabolite contents and the in vitro antioxidant activity during fermentation and investigated the protectiveness of SFAJ and IFAJ against oxidative stress within HepG2 cells, promoting the study of the antioxidant efficacy of IFAJ, thereby providing valuable reference data for the optimization of its preparation and the development of relevant products with health benefits.

Fermentation is a crucial technology to improve the nutritional and functional properties of food materials. In this study, edible grass was processed by spontaneous fermentation. Changes in physicochemical properties, metabolites, and antioxidant activity of edible grass were investigated by colorimetric method and chromatography mass spectrometry-based non-targeted metabolomics approach during fermentation. The highest total polyphenol and total flavonoid contents, and free radical scavenging abilities were observed on the 17th day of fermentation. The maximum activity of superoxide dismutase was maintained stable in the fermentation time range of 7–70 days. In total, 16 differential metabolites were identified with fermentation duration up to 124 days. Fermented edible grass exerted protection from H2O2-induced cytotoxicity on HepG2 cells, regulating by the reduction in reactive oxygen species level and the increase in antioxidant enzyme activities. Overall, this study confirms that fermented edible grass obtained by spontaneous fermentation presented favorable nutritional and functional quality, and is expected to be a kind of food with antioxidant function.

Developing nations face the double burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases. Bhutan is a developing country, and has achieved significant milestones in its health indicators. Increasing burden of stroke and the lack of evidence based stroke care system in the country’s hospitals is proving to be a challenge to provide quality stroke care. Despite the logistical challenge of referring stroke patients on time, lack of trained health care professionals and resources, Bhutan has recently started various initiatives to improve stroke care with the help of WHO-SEARO, WHO-Geneva, and Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, India.

Purpose: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a leading cause of severe visual impairment of childhood affecting preterm babies. The disease is sensitive to the quality of neonatal nursing care provided to preterm neonates in any neonatal intensive care unit. (NICU). The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge gap among nurses related to ROP and its prevention and management working in NICU in a tertiary care hospital. Methods: In a cross-sectional descriptive survey, 53 nurses working in a selected NICU of a tertiary care hospital were enrolled. A pretested and validated self-administered questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge of nurses related to ROP. The questionnaire consisted of two main parts namely the demographic information and the knowledge questionnaire related to ROP related to risk factors of ROP, screening procedure, and nursing care to babies with ROP before, during, and after the procedure. Results: The majority of nurses were female with a mean age of 33.48 ± 5.85 years, having a median of 5 years of experience in NICU. Most of the nurses (38, 68%) had overall poor knowledge, followed by fair knowledge (21%) with the mean knowledge scores of 14.07 ± 2.06. No significant association between the overall knowledge scores and age, total professional experience in NICU, designation, and educational qualification of the nurses could be observed (P ≥ 0.05). Conclusion: Most of the nurses working in the NICU had poor knowledge regarding ROP, necessitating the need for updating the knowledge of nurses related to ROP, its prevention, and management by disseminating information about the disease through seminars, and workshops and arranging in-house educational sessions on ROP.

Abstract To measure the retinal microvascular density in patients with anisometropic amblyopia using optical coherence tomographic angiography (OCTA) and to evaluate the effects of successful amblyopia treatment on microvasculature in retina. 59 children (5–12 years old) including 22 newly diagnosed unilateral anisometropic amblyopia, 16 recovered unilateral anisometropic amblyopia, and 21 control children were imaged with OCTA using 6 × 6-mm macular scan pattern. Vessel densities of the superficial capillary plexus (SCP), the deep capillary plexus (DCP), and the overall macular thickness were acquired and compared among the three groups. After adjustment for axial length, the amblyopia group showed lower macular vessel density in the SCP (P = 0.005) and in the DCP (P = 0.004) compared with that of the control group. However, for the recovered amblyopia group, no difference of vessel density was found when compared with the control group in both the SCP (P = 0.548) and the DCP (P = 0.124). No difference of the mean macular thickness was found among three groups (P ≥ 0.15). Children with anisometropic amblyopia have reduced macular vessel density in OCTA, while no difference of macular vessel density was found between the recovered amblyopic and control eyes. Macular thickness showed no difference in anisometropic amblyopia and remained unchanged after amblyopic treatment.

Abstract The long noncoding RNASBF2-AS1 can promote the occurrence and development of many kinds of tumours, but its role in oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is unknown. We found that SBF2-AS1 was up-regulated in ESCC, and its expression was positively correlated with tumor size (P = 0.0001), but was not related to gender, age, TNM stage, histological grade, and lymphnode metastasis (P > 0.05). It was further found that the higher the expression of SBF2-AS1, the lower the survival rate. COX multivariate analysis showed that the expression of SBF2-AS1 was an independent prognostic factor. Functional experiments show that inhibition of SBF2-AS1 can inhibit the proliferation of ESCC through in vivo and in vitro, and overexpression of SBF2-AS1 can promote the proliferation of ESCC and inhibit its apoptosis. In mechanism, SBF2-AS1/miR-338-3P, miR-362-3P/E2F1 axis are involved in the regulation of ESCC growth. In general, SBF2-AS1 may be used as ceRNA to combine with miR-338-3P and miR-362-3P to up-regulate the expression ofE2F1, and ultimately play a role in promoting cancer. It may be used as a therapeutic target and a biomarker for prognosis.

Tools quantifying phosphorus (P) status in plants help to achieve efficient management and to optimize crop yield. The objectives of this study were to establish the relationship between P and nitrogen (N) concentrations of flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) during the growth season to determine the critical P concentration for diagnosing P deficiency. Field experiments were arranged as split plots based on a randomized complete block design. Phosphorus levels (0, 40, 80, 120, and 160 kgP2O5 ha−1) were assigned to the main plots, and cultivars (Dingya 22, Lunxuan 2, Longyaza 1, Zhangya 2, and Longya 14) were allocated to the subplots. Shoot biomass (SB) and P and N concentrations were determined at 47, 65, 74, 98, and 115 days after emergence. Shoot biomass increased, while P and N concentrations and the N:P ratio declined with time in each year. The P concentration in respect of N concentration was described using a liner relationship (P = 0.05, N + 1.68, R2 = 0.76, p < 0.01) under non-limiting P conditions, in which the concentrations are expressed in g kg−1 dry matter (DM). The N:P ratio was fitted to a second-order polynomial equation (N:P = 11.56 × SB−0.1, R2 = 0.71, p = 0.03), based on the SB of flax. This research first developed a predictive model for critical P concentration in flax, as a function of N concentration in shoots of flax. The critical P concentration can be used as a promising alternative tool to quantify the degree of P deficiency of flax during the current growing season.

ObjectivesThis study analyzed differences in the mean cerebral blood flow (mCBF) and arterial transit time (ATT) of the anterior and posterior circulations between patients with intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) and control subjects. We also investigated the correlation between ATT and mCBF in the two groups, and evaluated whether the blood flow velocity of the extracranial carotid/vertebral arteries can influence mCBF.MethodsA total of 32 patients with ICAS were prospectively enrolled at the Radiology Department of the China-Japan Friendship Hospital between November 2020 and September 2021. All patients had extensive arterial stenosis, with 17 having cerebral arterial stenosis in the anterior circulation and 15 in the posterior circulation. Thirty-two healthy subjects were enrolled as a control group. Enhanced arterial spin labeling (eASL) imaging was performed using a 3.0-T GE magnetic resonance imaging scanner, and all patients underwent carotid and vertebral Doppler ultrasound examinations. CereFlow software was used for post-processing of the eASL data, to obtain cerebral perfusion parameters such as mCBF and ATT. Independent samples t-tests were used to analyze and compare mCBF and ATT of the anterior circulation (frontal lobe, parietal lobe, and insula) and posterior circulation (occipital lobe, cerebellum) between the patient and control groups. The relationships of ATT and mCBF in the two groups were evaluated with Pearson’s correlation. The blood flow velocity of the extracranial internal carotid/vertebral arteries, including the peak systolic velocity (PSV), end diastolic velocity (EDV), mean PSV (mPSV), and mean EDV (mEDV), was compared between the control and study groups using t-tests. Multiple linear regression analysis was then applied to determine the factors associated with mCBF in the two groups.ResultsThe mCBFs of the anterior and posterior circulations in the patient group were lower than those of the control group. The ATTs in the patient group were all significantly longer than those of the control group (p < 0.05). Except for the insula in the control group, significant correlations were found between ATT and mCBF in all other investigated locations in the two groups (p < 0.05). The blood flow velocity of the extracranial internal carotid/vertebral arteries differed significantly between the control and patient groups (p < 0.05). The multiple linear regression analysis revealed that in patients with ICAS, mPSV of the vertebral arteries and local ATT correlated with mCBF of the occipital lobes and the cerebellum, respectively (p < 0.05). In contrast, there was no significant correlation within the anterior circulation (frontal lobes, parietal lobes, and insula).ConclusionThere was a significant relationship between ATT and mCBF in patients with ICAS. Extracranial blood flow may influence intracranial hemodynamics in the posterior circulation in patients with ICAS. The maintenance of extracranial blood flow is of great significance in the preservation of intracranial hemodynamics.

Ranking, evaluation, and the determination of the lower limit of physical properties (PPLL) are critical for selecting the sweet spots of tight reservoirs. This study investigated the tight reservoirs in the Longfengshan area in the southern Songliao Basin. Based on reservoir evaluation, this study determined the ranking criteria and the PPLL of tight sandstone reservoirs. The results are as follows. (1) Tight sandstone reservoirs can be divided into I, II, and III types based on the energy storage parameter and pore structure. Reservoirs with a porosity of > 6% are I-type reservoirs. The reservoirs of this type have high accumulation and seepage capacities, and their pore structures feature low displacement pressure and high structure coefficients. Reservoirs with a porosity of < 4% are III-type reservoirs. The reservoirs of this type have low accumulation and seepage capacities, and their pore structures feature high displacement pressure and low structure coefficients. The remaining reservoirs are II-type reservoirs. (2) The PPLL (denoted by porosity) of tight sandstone reservoirs was determined to be 2.50% using the water film thickness method and the minimum pore throat radius method. The water film thickness method, which comprehensively considers the geological factors including formation temperature, formation pressure, and the adsorption capacity of minerals, is innovative to a certain degree. As verified by the test data from the major exploration wells drilled in the Longfengshan area, the ranking criteria of tight reservoirs proposed in this study are effective and highly applicable and thus serve as effective guidance on the future exploration of the study area.

Objective. The relative contribution of some products with prebiotic effects, such as inulin, together with medications specific to the human gut microbiome has not been comprehensively studied. The present study determined the potential for manipulating populations in the gut microbiome using inulin alone and combined with other agents in individuals with metabolic syndrome (MetS). The study also assessed whether there is relationship variability in multiple clinical parameters in response to intervention with the changes in the gut milieu. Participants/Methods. This single-centre, single-blinded, randomised community-based pilot trial randomly assigned 60 patients (mean age, 46.3 y and male, 43%) with MetS to receive either inulin, inulin+traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), or inulin+metformin for 6 months. Lipid profiles, blood glucose, and uric acid (UA) levels were analysed in venous blood samples collected after overnight fast of 8 h at baseline and at the end of the follow-up period. Microbiota from stool samples were taxonomically analysed using 16S RNA amplicon sequencing, and an integrative analysis was conducted on microbiome and responsiveness data at 6 months. Results. Identification of the factors associated with medication nonadherence is important. However, few related studies have been carried out in Tibet. This study aimed to explore factors influencing medication nonadherence to pulmonary TB (PTB) treatment in Tibet, China, from the patient perspective.Patients and Methods: In this qualitative study, seventeen PTB patients in Tibet were recruited by purposive and maximum variation sampling methods. In-depth semistructured interviews were conducted to collect data on factors influencing medication nonadherence, and Colaizzi’s seven-step method was used to analyze the data.Results: The medication nonadherence of PTB patients in Tibet was influenced by one or a combination of the following four factors. First, patient-related factors included a lack of knowledge of PTB treatment, poor self-management capability, poor self-regulation capability and misperception of health condition. Second, a medication-related factor was medication side effects. Third, health service-related factors included the poor treatment skills of doctors in primary hospitals and a lack of directly observed treatment (DOT). Last, sociocultural factors included the effect of traditional Tibetan medicine, lack of family member support and discrimination.Conclusion: Multiple interplaying factors influenced medication nonadherence during PTB treatment in Tibet, and the main influencing factors were a lack of knowledge about PTB treatment, poor self-management capability, and the effect of traditional Tibetan medicine. TB health workers in Tibet should provide permanently viewable PTB treatment knowledge materials to PTB patients when oral health education is conducted, find feasible alternative strategies to DOT and establish links to traditional Tibetan medicine hospitals.Keywords: pulmonary tuberculosis, medication compliance, in-depth interview, influencing factor

The rapid proliferation of Android malware is challenging the classification of the Android malware family. The traditional static method for classification is easily affected by the confusion and reinforcement, while the dynamic method is expensive in computation. To solve these problems, this paper proposes an Android malware familial classification method based on Dalvik Executable (DEX) file section features. First, the DEX file is converted into RGB (Red/Green/Blue) image and plain text respectively, and then, the color and texture of image and text are extracted as features. Finally, a feature fusion algorithm based on multiple kernel learning is used for classification. In this experiment, the Android Malware Dataset (AMD) was selected as the sample set. Two different comparative experiments were set up, and the method in this paper was compared with the common visualization method and feature fusion method. The results show that our method has a better classification effect with precision, recall and F1 score reaching 0.96. Besides, the time of feature extraction in this paper is reduced by 2.999 seconds compared with the method of frequent subsequence. In conclusion, the method proposed in this paper is efficient and precise in the classification of the Android malware family.

Sulfadiazine (SDZ) is a common antibiotic pollutant in wastewater. Given that it poses a risk as an environmental pollutant, finding effective ways to treat it is important. In this paper, the composite catalytic material g-C3N4/Ag/γ-FeOOH was prepared, and its degradation performance was studied. g-C3N4/Ag/γ-FeOOH had a superior degradation effect on SDZ than g-C3N4 and γ-FeOOH. Compared with different g-C3N4 loadings and different catalyst dosages (5, 10, 25, and 50 mg/L), 2 mg/L g-C3N4/Ag/γ-FeOOH with a g-C3N4 loading of 5.0 wt% has the highest degradation promotion rate for SDZ, reaching up to 258.75% at 600 min. In addition, the photocatalytic enhancement mechanism of the catalyst was studied. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicated that the enhancement of photocatalytic activity was related to the narrowing of the forbidden band and the local electron density of the valence band. The bandgap of the catalyst was gradually narrowed from 2.7 to 1.05 eV, which can increase the light absorption intensity and expand the absorption edge. The density of states diagram showed that the local resonance at the interface could effectively improve the separation efficiency of e−-h+ pairs. Four degradation paths of SDZ were speculated based on DFT calculations. The analysis confirmed that the degradation path of SDZ primarily included Smiles-type rearrangement, SO2 extrusion, and S-N bond cleavage processes.

Growing attention has been paid to nonthermal plasma treatment technology and its effects on the degradation of organic matter, especially for antibiotics. However, the majority of the conducted research has focused on the experimental results. Rare attempts were made to analyze the reaction mechanism at the microscopic level. In this paper, molecular dynamics simulation and reactive forcefields were used to investigate the reaction mechanism of different plasma particle interactions with azithromycin molecules. The simulation results indicated that the degradation of azithromycin was caused by the destruction of C-H and C-C bonds, followed by the formation of C=C and C=O bonds when reacted with the active particles. It was also found that the ability of degrading azithromycin varied among the different types of active particles. The oxygen atoms had the strongest ability to decompose the azithromycin molecule, with 38.61% of the C-H bonds broken as compared with other oxygenated species. The findings from this computational simulation could provide theoretical support and guidance for subsequent practical experiments.
