Abstract Background Vitamin D deficiency, a common occurrence among pregnant women, is an emerging public health concern worldwide. According to research, prenatal vitamin D deficiency is associated with various complications. This study assessed the vitamin D status of pregnant women in Yanbian, Jilin Province, as well as the correlation and predictive value of their vitamin D levels in relation to gestational length (weeks) and fetal weight, aiming to provide a basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods We conducted a population-based retrospective study involving 510 pregnant women from August 2019 to October 2022. Blood samples were collected at 16–20 weeks of gestation for the detection of serum vitamin D levels. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 28.0 and R 4.1.0 software. Silicon-based optical switches are integral to on-chip optical interconnects, and mode-division multiplexing (MDM) technology has enabled modes to function as carriers in routing, further boosting optical switches’ link capacity. However, traditional multimode optical switches, which typically use Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) structures and mode (de)multiplexers, are complex and occupy significant physical space. In this paper, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel demultiplexing-free dual-mode 3 × 3 thermal-optical switch based on micro-rings (MRs) and mode exchangers (MEs). All MRs are designed to handle TE1 mode, while the ME converts TE0 mode to TE1 mode, enabling separate routing of both modes. Bezier curves are employed to optimize not only the ME, but also the dual-mode 45° and 90° waveguide bends, which facilitate the flexible and compact layout design. Moreover, our structure can support multiple wavelength channels and spacings by adding pairs of MRs, exhibiting strong WDM compatibility. The switch has an ultra-compact footprint of 0.87 × 0.52 mm2. Under both “all-bar” and “all-cross” configurations, its insertion losses (ILs) remain below 8.7 dB at 1,551 nm, with optical signal-to-noise ratios (OSNRs) exceeding 13.0 dB. Also, 32 Gbps data transmission experiments validate the switch’s high-speed transmission capability.

ObjectiveThe dynamic prediction of carbon emission from cold chain distribution is an important basis for the accurate assessment of carbon emission and its green credit grade. Facing the fact that the carbon emission of vehicles is affected by multiple factors, such as road condition information, driving characteristics, refrigeration parameters, etc., a dynamic prediction model of carbon emission was proposed from refrigerated vehicles that integrates multi-source information.MethodsThe backbone feature extraction network, neck feature fusion network and loss function of YOLOv8s was firstly improved. The full-dimensional dynamic convolution was introduced into the backbone feature extraction network, and the multidimensional attention mechanism was introduced to capture the contextual key information to improve the model feature extraction capability. A progressive feature pyramid network was introduced into the feature extraction network, which reduced the loss of key information by fusing features layer by layer and improved the feature fusion efficiency. The road condition information recognition model based on improved YOLOv8s was constructed to characterize the road condition information in terms of the number of road vehicles and the percentage of pixel area. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to compare and analyze the correlation between carbon emissions of refrigerated vehicles and different influencing factors, and to verify the necessity and criticality of the selection of input parameters of the carbon emission prediction model. Then the iTransformer temporal prediction model was improved, and the external attention mechanism was introduced to enhance the feature extraction ability of iTransformer model and reduce the computational complexity. The dynamic prediction model of carbon emission of refrigerated vehicles based on the improved iTransformer was constructed by taking the road condition information, driving characteristics (speed, acceleration), cargo weight, and refrigeration parameters (temperature, power) as inputs. Finally, the model was compared and analyzed with other models to verify the robustness of the road condition information and the prediction accuracy of the vehicle carbon emission dynamic prediction model, respectively.Results and DiscussionsThe results of correlation analysis showed that the vehicle driving parameters were the main factor affecting the intensity of vehicle carbon emissions, with a correlation of 0.841. The second factor was cargo weight, with a correlation of 0.807, which had a strong positive correlation. Compared with the vehicle refrigeration parameters, the road condition information had a stronger correlation between vehicle carbon emissions, the correlation between refrigeration parameters and the vehicle carbon emissions impact factor were above 0.67. In order to further ensure the accuracy of the vehicle carbon emissions prediction model, The paper was selected as the input parameters for the carbon emissions prediction model. The improved YOLOv8s road information recognition model achieved 98.1%, 95.5%, and 98.4% in precision, recall, and average recognition accuracy, which were 1.2%, 3.7%, and 0.2% higher than YOLOv8s, respectively, with the number of parameters and the amount of computation being reduced by 12.5% and 31.4%, and the speed of detection being increased by 5.4%. This was due to the cross-dimensional feature learning through full-dimensional dynamic convolution, which fully captured the key information and improved the feature extraction capability of the model, and through the progressive feature pyramid network after fusing the information between different classes through gradual step-by-step fusion, which fully retained the important feature information and improved the recognition accuracy of the model. The predictive performance of the improved iTransformer carbon emission prediction model was better than other time series prediction models, and its prediction curve was closest to the real carbon emission curve with the best fitting effect. The introduction of the external attention mechanism significantly improved the prediction accuracy, and its MSE, MAE, RMSE and R2 were 0.026 1 %VOL, 0.079 1 %VOL, 0.161 5 %VOL and 0.940 0, respectively, which were 0.4%, 15.3%, 8.7% and 1.3% lower, respectively, when compared with iTransformer. As the degree of road congestion increased, the prediction accuracy of the constructed carbon emission prediction model increased.ConclusionsThe carbon emission prediction model for cold chain distribution under multi-source information fusion proposed in this study can realize accurate prediction of carbon emission from refrigerated vehicles, provide theoretical basis for rationally formulating carbon emission reduction strategies and promoting the development of low-carbon cold chain distribution.

Abstract Non-self recognition is a fundamental aspect of life, serving as a crucial mechanism for mitigating proliferation of molecular parasites within fungal populations. However, studies investigating the potential interference of plants with fungal non-self recognition mechanisms are limited. Here, we demonstrate a pronounced increase in the efficiency of horizontal mycovirus transmission between vegetatively incompatible Sclerotinia sclerotiorum strains in planta as compared to in vitro. This increased efficiency is associated with elevated proline concentration in plants following S. sclerotiorum infection. This surge in proline levels attenuates the non-self recognition reaction among fungi by inhibition of cell death, thereby facilitating mycovirus transmission. Furthermore, our field experiments reveal that the combined deployment of hypovirulent S. sclerotiorum strains harboring hypovirulence-associated mycoviruses (HAVs) together with exogenous proline confers substantial protection to oilseed rape plants against virulent S. sclerotiorum. This unprecedented discovery illuminates a novel pathway by which plants can counteract S. sclerotiorum infection, leveraging the weakening of fungal non-self recognition and promotion of HAVs spread. These promising insights provide an avenue to explore for developing innovative biological control strategies aimed at mitigating fungal diseases in plants by enhancing the efficacy of horizontal HAV transmission.

Abstract Ultrasmall copper nanoclusters have recently emerged as promising photocatalysts for organic synthesis, owing to their exceptional light absorption ability and large surface areas for efficient interactions with substrates. Despite significant advances in cluster-based visible-light photocatalysis, the types of organic transformations that copper nanoclusters can catalyze remain limited to date. Herein, we report a structurally well-defined anionic Cu40 nanocluster that emits in the second near-infrared region (NIR-II, 1000−1700 nm) after photoexcitation and can conduct single-electron transfer with fluoroalkyl iodides without the need for external ligand activation. This photoredox-active copper nanocluster efficiently catalyzes the three-component radical couplings of alkenes, fluoroalkyl iodides, and trimethylsilyl cyanide under blue-LED irradiation at room temperature. A variety of fluorine-containing electrophiles and a cyanide nucleophile can be added onto an array of alkenes, including styrenes and aliphatic olefins. Our current work demonstrates the viability of using readily accessible metal nanoclusters to establish photocatalytic systems with a high degree of practicality and reaction complexity.

Abstract Background TG103, a glucagon-like peptide-1 analog, is being investigated as an option for weight management. We aimed to determine the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of TG103 injection in participants who are overweight or obese without diabetes. Methods In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multiple-dose phase 1b study, participants aged 18–75 years with a body-mass index (BMI) ≥ 26.0 kg/m2 and body weight ≥ 60 kg were enrolled from three centers in China. The study included three cohorts, and in each cohort, eligible participants were randomly assigned (3:1) to one of three once-weekly subcutaneous TG103 groups (15.0, 22.5 and 30.0 mg) or matched placebo, without lifestyle interventions. In each cohort, the doses of TG103 were escalated in 1-week intervals to the desired dose over 1 to 4 weeks. Then participants were treated at the target dose until week 12 and then followed up for 2 weeks. The primary endpoint was safety and tolerability assessed by the incidence and severity of adverse events (AEs) from baseline to the end of the follow-up period. Secondary endpoints included pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles of TG103 and the occurrence of anti-drug antibodies to TG103. Results A total of 147 participants were screened, and 48 participants were randomly assigned to TG103 (15.0, 22.5 and 30.0 mg groups, n = 12 per group) or placebo (n = 12). The mean (standard deviation, SD) age of the participants was 33.9 (10.0) years; the mean bodyweight was 81.65 (10.50) kg, and the mean BMI was 29.8 (2.5) kg/m2. A total of 466 AEs occurred in 45 of the 48 participants, with 35 (97.2%) in the TG103 group and 10 (83.3%) in the pooled placebo group. Most AEs were grade 1 or 2 in severity, and there were no serious adverse events (SAEs), AEs leading to death, or AEs leading to discontinuation of treatment. The steady-state exposure of TG103 increased with increasing dose and was proportional to Cmax,ss, AUCss, AUC0-t and AUC0-inf. The mean values of Cmax,ss ranged from 951 to 1690 ng/mL, AUC0-t ranged from 150 to 321 μg*h/mL, and AUC0-inf ranged from 159 to 340 μg*h/mL. TG103 had a half-life of 110–116 h, with a median Tmax of 36–48 h. After treatment for 12 weeks, the mean (SD) values of weight loss from baseline in the TG103 15.0 mg, 22.5 mg and 30.0 mg groups were 5.65 (3.30) kg, 5.35 (3.39) kg and 5.13 (2.56) kg, respectively, and that in the placebo group was 1.37 (2.13) kg. Designing compositions for novel alloys requires a fundamental grasp of the role of each alloying element in its properties. This study delves into the influence of alloying elements in Ultra-High Strength Steels on essential high-temperature properties, including thermoelasticity, thermal stress, and strength, utilizing first-principles phonon calculations. These properties are pivotal for steels used in high-temperature applications. Our investigation quantitatively forecasts the impact of alloying elements on elastic properties, providing valuable insights for advanced alloy design in high-temperature environments. The introduction of alloying elements markedly amplifies the elastic modulus of Fe-based alloys. The Ni, Mo, Cr, and C elements significantly enhance the anisotropy of the alloy. While refining elastic modulus and mechanical properties, alloying elements induce thermal stress, posing a potential risk of high-temperature cracking. The quantitative analysis underscores the robust strengthening potential for C, Ni, Mo, and W elements, with interstitial C emerging as pivotal in enhancing mechanical properties. The findings of this study illuminate the diverse roles played by different alloying elements and offer theoretical guidance for the design of advanced Ultra-High Strength Steels.

Livelihood capital is the core element of sustainable livelihood development for rural households. Based on the survey data of 615 growers in the main rubber-producing areas of Hainan and Yunnan province, this paper constructs an evaluation system of rubber growers' livelihood capital within the sustainable livelihood analysis framework and calculates key indicators, such as farmers' livelihood capital index, livelihood activity diversity index, and household income diversity index. The multiple regression model and the mediating effect model are used to explore the influence mechanism of livelihood capital on the sustainable livelihood of rural households. The following three conclusions are drawn: (1) The accumulation of livelihood capital of rural households is conducive to enriching the structure of household livelihood activities and income sources, especially the accumulation of financial capital, which is more likely to improve the diversity of household livelihood activities. Regional differences exist in the impact of livelihood capital structures on rural household livelihood outcomes. Natural capital endowment has a significant effect on the income diversification level in Hainan, but there may be a "curse" effect in Yunnan. (2) Geographical characteristics, production decisions, and farming household characteristics significantly impact sustainable livelihoods. The altitude of the village and the distance from the county seat pose certain challenges for farmers in diversifying their livelihoods. Although the law of rubber tapping production may weaken farmers' production and business activities, it can better stabilize farmers' incomes owing to its strong flexibility in labor arrangements, which may be beneficial for diversifying livelihoods; however, it does not necessarily lead to diversified incomes. While the characteristics of poor households can help rural households gain policy support, building capacity is the key to achieving a sustainable livelihood. (3) There are intermediary effects of livelihood capital on livelihood activities and household income, but the mechanisms of action are different. For the diversity of farmers' livelihoods, 52.70% of the catalytic effect of livelihood capital is achieved by improving the ability to integrate livelihood capital. Optimizing household employment strategies contributed to the promotion of livelihood capital on the income diversification index, with a mediating effect of 30.52%. The main contribution of this study is to clarify how livelihood capital can achieve the goal of diversifying household livelihood activities and income by coordinating livelihood capacity and employment strategies. Therefore, to enhance the comprehensive livelihood capacity of rural households, the coordination capacity of livelihood capital, livelihood capacity building should be enhanced, and employment information channels should be expanded.

Abstract Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) lacks established biomarkers or molecular targets for predicting or enhancing radiation response. Phosphatidylinositol-3,4,5-triphosphate-dependent Rac exchange factor 2 (PREX2) exhibits intricate implications in tumorigenesis and progression. Nevertheless, the precise role and underlying mechanisms of PREX2 in CRC radioresistance remain unclear. Methods RNA-seq was employed to identify differentially expressed genes between radioresistant CRC cell lines and their parental counterparts. PREX2 expression was scrutinized using Western blotting, real-time PCR, and immunohistochemistry. The radioresistant role of PREX2 was assessed through in vitro colony formation assay, apoptosis assay, comet assay, and in vivo xenograft tumor models. The mechanism of PREX2 was elucidated using RNA-seq and Western blotting. Finally, a PREX2 small-molecule inhibitor, designated PREX-in1, was utilized to enhance the efficacy of ionizing radiation (IR) therapy in CRC mouse models. Results PREX2 emerged as the most significantly upregulated gene in radioresistant CRC cells. It augmented the radioresistant capacity of CRC cells and demonstrated potential as a marker for predicting radioresistance efficacy. Mechanistically, PREX2 facilitated DNA repair by upregulating DNA-PKcs, suppressing radiation-induced immunogenic cell death, and impeding CD8+ T cell infiltration through the cGAS/STING/IFNs pathway. In vivo, the blockade of PREX2 heightened the efficacy of IR therapy. Conclusions PREX2 assumes a pivotal role in CRC radiation resistance by inhibiting the cGAS/STING/IFNs pathway, presenting itself as a potential radioresistant biomarker and therapeutic target for effectively overcoming radioresistance in CRC.

ObjectiveThe aim of the study was to develop a prediction nomogram based on clinical factors to assess the risk of postoperative complications in children with congenital choledochal cyst.MethodsThe clinical data from 131 children who underwent choledochal cyst resection and Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy in our hospital between January 2016 and December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. The general information, clinical symptoms, procedure, biochemical indicators, and imaging data were recorded. A prolonged hospital stay induced by postoperative complications or a follow-up over 6 months was assessed as the event outcome. A logistics regression analysis was performed to screen for risk factors with statistical significance in inducing postoperative complications. Then, with the dataset split into the training group and internal validation group, the nomogram for the prediction of postoperative complications was developed based on a computer algorithm. Summary: The Ralstonia solanacearum species complex causes bacterial wilt in a variety of crops. Tomato cultivar Hawaii 7996 is a widely used resistance resource; however, the resistance is evaded by virulent strains, with the underlying mechanisms still unknown. Here, we report that the phylotype Ⅱ strain ES5-1 can overcome Hawaii 7996 resistance. RipV2, a type Ⅲ effector specific to phylotype Ⅱ strains, is vital in overcoming tomato resistance. RipV2, which encodes an E3 ubiquitin ligase, suppresses immune responses and Toll/interleukin-1 receptor/resistance nucleotide-binding/leucine-rich repeat (NLR) (TNL)-mediated cell death. Tomato helper NLR N requirement gene 1 (NRG1), enhanced disease susceptibility 1 (EDS1), and senescence-associated gene 101b (SAG101b) are identified as RipV2 target proteins. RipV2 is essential for ES5-1 virulence in Hawaii 7996 but not in SlNRG1-silenced tomato, demonstrating SlNRG1 to be an RipV2 virulence target. Our results dissect the mechanisms of RipV2 in disrupting immunity and highlight the importance of converged immune components in conferring bacterial wilt resistance.

Abstract Rechargeable Li‐CO2 batteries are considered as a promising carbon‐neutral energy storage technology owing to their ultra‐high energy density and efficient CO2 capture capability. However, the sluggish CO2 reduction/evolution kinetics impedes their practical application, which leads to huge overpotentials and poor cyclability. Multi‐element transit metal oxides (TMOs) are demonstrated as effective cathodic catalysts for Li‐CO2 batteries. But there are no reports on the integration of defect engineering on multi‐element TMOs. Herein, the oxygen vacancy‐bearing Li‐Ni‐Co‐Mn multi‐oxide (Re‐NCM‐H3) catalyst with the α‐NaFeO2‐type structure is first fabricated by annealing the NiCoMn precursor that derived from spent ternary LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 cathode, in H2 at 300 °C. As demonstrated by experimental results and theory calculations, the introduction of moderate oxygen vacancy has optimized electronic state near the Fermi level (Ef), eventually improving CO2 adsorption and charge transfer. Therefore, the Li‐CO2 batteries with Re‐NCM‐H3 catalyst deliver a high capacity (11808.9 mAh g−1), a lower overpotential (1.54 V), as well as excellent stability over 216 cycles at 100 mA g−1 and 165 cycles at 400 mA g−1. This study not only opens up a sustainable application of spent ternary cathode, but also validates the potential of multi‐element TMO catalysts with oxygen defects for high‐efficiency Li‐CO2 batteries.

Continuous nursing has a high research value in postoperative rehabilitation nursing, and has a certain effect on improving the postoperative prognosis of patients with coronary heart disease. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a non-surgical, invasive procedure with advantages of minimal incision and fast recovery in the treatment of coronary heart disease. The secondary prevention after PCI is of great significance for prevention of disease recurrence and adverse prognosis. Exercise rehabilitation has been proven as a promising intervention for recovery of patients after percutaneous coronary intervention for acute myocardial infarction. Based on the analysis of individual’s condition, early exercise rehabilitation plan should be designed systematically and logically to reduce the mortality due to acute myocardial infarction, prevent complications, promote the early rehabilitation and improve the exercise tolerance and quality of life of the patient. This paper summarized the status quo of exercise rehabilitation and its research status, potential problems and clinical practice in patients with acute myocardial infarction after percutaneous coronary intervention, and provided reference for the establishment of exercise rehabilitation plan after percutaneous coronary intervention. Abstract Fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLI) has been receiving increased attention in recent years as a powerful diagnostic technique in biological and medical research. However, existing FLI systems often suffer from a tradeoff between processing speed, accuracy, and robustness. Inspired by the concept of Edge Artificial Intelligence (Edge AI), we propose a robust approach that enables fast FLI with no degradation of accuracy. This approach couples a recurrent neural network (RNN), which is trained to estimate the fluorescence lifetime directly from raw timestamps without building histograms, to SPAD TCSPC systems, thereby drastically reducing transfer data volumes and hardware resource utilization, and enabling real-time FLI acquisition. We train two variants of the RNN on a synthetic dataset and compare the results to those obtained using center-of-mass method (CMM) and least squares fitting (LS fitting). Results demonstrate that two RNN variants, gated recurrent unit (GRU) and long short-term memory (LSTM), are comparable to CMM and LS fitting in terms of accuracy, while outperforming them in the presence of background noise by a large margin. To explore the ultimate limits of the approach, we derive the Cramer-Rao lower bound of the measurement, showing that RNN yields lifetime estimations with near-optimal precision. To demonstrate real-time operation, we build a FLI microscope based on an existing SPAD TCSPC system comprising a 32 $$\times $$ × 32 SPAD sensor named Piccolo. Four quantized GRU cores, capable of processing up to 4 million photons per second, are deployed on the Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA that controls the Piccolo. Powered by the GRU, the FLI setup can retrieve real-time fluorescence lifetime images at up to 10 frames per second. The proposed FLI system is promising and ideally suited for biomedical applications, including biological imaging, biomedical diagnostics, and fluorescence-assisted surgery, etc.

Abstract Purpose The adverse health consequences of premarital sex and childhood sexual abuse (CSA) are both global public health problems. Based on a random sample of college students from a Chinese city, this study investigated the relationship between CSA severity and premarital sex among students, focusing on sex differences. Methods A total of 2722 college students from 4 schools in Luzhou were recruited by multistage random sampling. Self-administered questionnaires were used to measure CSA experiences and premarital sex. Binary logistic regression analyses were conducted to analyse the relationship between CSA and premarital sex. Results The prevalence of CSA was 9.39%, and that of mild, moderate and severe CSA was 4.04%, 2.90% and 2.46%, respectively. The premarital sex reporting rate was 22.42%. After adjusting for confounding variables, CSA was positively associated with premarital sex. Notably, a cumulative effect of CSA on premarital sex was observed among students. Further stratification analyses showed that males who experienced CSA had a higher premarital sex rate than females, and this sex difference was also observed among students with different CSA severities. Conclusion CSA and its severity were associated with premarital sex among college students. Furthermore, this association was stronger for males than females. Therefore, it is important to emphasize CSA prevention, especially for boys. These findings can promote understanding of the effects of CSA on premarital sex, and CSA prevention and intervention strategies should consider CSA severity and sex differences.

In this paper, we presented an asymptotic relationship between the single threshold model and the model with different upgrade and downgrade thresholds for credit migration problems with fixed boundaries. By partial differential equation (PDE) techniques, we proved that the solution of the asymmetric threshold problem converges to that of a single threshold problem uniformly as one of the asymmetric thresholds approaches the other.

In response to the increasing penetration of volatile and uncertain renewable energy, the regional transmission organizations (RTOs) have been recently focusing on enhancing the models of pump storage hydropower (PSH) plants, which are one of the key flexibility assets in the day-ahead (DA) and real-time (RT) markets, to further boost their flexibility provision potentials. Inspired by the recent research works that explored the potential benefits of excluding PSHs' cost-related terms from the objective functions of the DA market clearing model, this paper completes a rolling RT market scheme that is compatible with the DA market. Then, with the vision that PSHs could be permitted to submit state-of-charge (SOC) headrooms in the DA market and to release them in the RT market, this paper uncovers that PSHs could increase the total revenues from the two markets by optimizing their SOC headrooms, assisted by the proposed tri-level optimal SOC headroom model. Specifically, in the proposed tri-level model, the middle and lower levels respectively mimic the DA and RT scheduling processes of PSHs, and the upper level determines the optimal headrooms to be submitted to the RTO for maximizing the total revenue from the two markets. Numerical case studies quantify the profitability of the optimal SOC headroom submissions as well as the associated financial risks.

In this study, secondary ion mass spectrometry and a semiconductor parameter analyzer were used to study and analyze the component interdiffusion at the CdTe/HgCdTe interface before and after annealing, as well as the effect of the formation of a gradient bandgap layer from annealing on the electrical properties of the metal–insulator-semiconductor (MIS) structure. The site-direction relationship of the contracted crystals at the CdTe/HgCdTe interface was revealed by transmission electron microscopy, and it was found that the stacking dislocations in the CdTe layer were significantly reduced after annealing and that the Hg atoms diffused into the CdTe layer through the high-temperature annealing and occupied the lattice positions of the Cd atoms, thus forming the HgCdTe structure, which formed a contracted-crystalline structure with the CdTe substrate. Molecular dynamics was applied to simulate the specific atomic diffusion behavior at different temperatures and different times during the high temperature annealing process, and the above experimental results were verified by a research note on the variation of the diffusion phenomena during the process.

The opportunity of agricultural management practices to sequester soil organic carbon (SOC) is recognized as an important strategy for mitigating climate change. However, there is low confidence when it comes to understanding the magnitude of the climate benefit we can expect from SOC sequestration or how best to achieve it. Several issues are often confounded when it comes to the mitigation potential of SOC sequestration and greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions from agriculture, creating confusion and making it difficult to clearly identify the knowns, unknowns and risks to implementing policy and practice recommendations. Here, we identify and explain four major areas of uncertainty: (1) the expected changes in soil carbon or GHG emissions resulting from agricultural management practice changes; (2) the extent to which social, environmental and economic factors constrain mitigation potential; (3) the ability to execute reliable measurement, monitoring, reporting and verification (MMRV) frameworks; and (4) the perception of risk associated with different ways of promoting practice adoption (e.g., voluntary carbon markets fueled by the private sector, pay-for-practice programs funded by public investment). We aim to pinpoint knowledge gaps and areas of disagreement to help right-size expectations and guide effective investment in GHG removals and reductions from agriculture.

ABSTRACTThe growing number of Mpox cases in China has posed a challenge to public health. The prevalence of men who have sex with men behaviors among students has been consistently increasing each year in China, accompanied by a high frequency of unprotected anal sex. As crowded places, schools are highly likely to cause an Mpox outbreak among students through long-term close contact. Understanding university students’ perceptions about Mpox and willingness to vaccinate play a vital role in implementing preventive measures in schools. This study aimed to assess knowledge, concerns, and vaccine acceptance toward Mpox among university students in North and Northeast China. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 3831 university students from seven universities in North and Northeast China between September 10 and September 25, 2023. This study found a relative insufficiency in Mpox knowledge among university students (71.60%), with less than half expressing concern about the Mpox outbreak (39.57%), and the majority exhibiting a positive attitude to vaccination (76.30%). Multivariate regression analysis revealed that a good knowledge level was associated with age, study discipline, education level, and a high level of concern about Mpox. Male, elderly, or highly educated participants had a low level of concern about Mpox. Participants with a high level of knowledge toward Mpox were more likely to have the vaccination willingness. This study might help governments and schools to understand students’ Mpox perceptions and vaccination intentions, enabling them to implement effective measures in addressing the issue of inadequate understanding regarding Mpox among university students.

ObjectiveThe purpose of this study is to compare the intraoperative and postoperative outcomes of a trans-umbilical single-site plus one robot-assisted surgery and a trans-umbilical single-site laparoscopic surgery in the treatment of choledochal cysts.MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed clinical data from 49 children diagnosed with choledochal cysts who were admitted to our hospital between June 2020 and December 2023. Among these patients, 24 underwent a trans-umbilical single-site plus one Da Vinci robot-assisted surgery (the robot group) and 25 underwent a trans-umbilical single-site laparoscopic-assisted surgery (the laparoscopic group). We compared differences in intraoperative and postoperative outcomes between the two groups.ResultsThere was no significant difference between the two groups of patients in terms of gender, age, weight, clinical symptoms, maximum cyst diameter, type, postoperative complications, and facial expression, leg movement, activity, crying, and comfortability (FLACC) scoring (p > 0.05). ABSTRACT Ascospores, forcibly released into the air from perithecia, are the primary inoculum for Fusarium head blight. In Fusarium graminearum, the biological functions of four RNA-dependent RNA polymerases (RdRPs) (Fgrdrp1–4) have been reported, but their regulatory mechanisms are poorly understood and the function of Fgrdrp5 is still unknown. In this study, we found that in addition to Fgrdrp1 and Fgrdrp2, Fgrdrp5 also plays an important role in ascospore discharge, and they all participate in the generation of turgor pressure in a polyol-dependent manner. Moreover, these three genes all affect the maturation of ascospores. Deep sequencing and co-analysis of small RNA and mRNA certified that Fgrdrp1, Fgrdrp2, and Fgrdrp5 partly share their functions in the biogenesis and accumulation of exonic small interference RNA (ex-siRNA), and these three RdRPs negatively regulate the expression levels of ex-siRNA corresponding genes, including certain genes associated with ascospore development or discharge. Furthermore, the differentially expressed genes of deletion mutants, those involved in lipid and sugar metabolism or transport as well as sexual development-related transcription factors, may also contribute to the defects in ascospore maturation or ascospore discharge. In conclusion, our study suggested that the components of the dicer-dependent ex-siRNA-mediated RNA interference pathway include at least Fgrdrp1, Fgrdrp2, and Fgrdrp5.IMPORTANCEWe found that in addition to Fgrdrp1 and Fgrdrp2, Fgrdrp5 also plays important roles in ascospore maturation and ascospore discharge of Fusarium graminearum. These three RNA-dependent RNA polymerases participate in the biogenesis and accumulation of exonic small interference RNA and then regulate ascospore discharge.

In this article, we define evolutoids and pedaloids of frontals on timelike surfaces in Minkowski 3-space. The evolutoids of frontals on timelike surfaces are not only the generalization of evolutoids of curves in the Minkowski plane but also the generalization of caustics in Minkowski 3-space. As an application of the singularity theory, we classify the singularities of evolutoids and reveal the relationships between the singularities and geometric invariants of frontals. Furthermore, we find that there exists a close connection between the pedaloids of frontals and the pedal surfaces of evolutoids. Finally, we give some examples to demonstrate the results.

A 21-d experiment was conducted to study the effect of xylanase, protease, and xylo-oligosaccharides on growth performance, nutrient utilization, gene expression of nutrient transporters, cecal short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), and cecal microbiota profile of broilers challenged with mixed Eimeria spp. The study utilized 392 zero-d-old male broiler chicks allocated to 8 treatments in a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement, as follows: corn-soybean meal diet with no enzyme (Con); Con plus xylanase alone (XYL); Con plus xylanase combined with protease (XYL + PRO); or Con plus xylo-oligosaccharides (XOS); with or without Eimeria challenge. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical utility of small breast epithelial mucin (SBEM) as a prognostic biomarker in an independent patient cohort. The paraffin-embedded tissues and clinicopathological data of 105 patients with breast cancer were collected, and the expression of SBEM in breast cancer samples was detected by immunohistochemical staining. The correlations between clinicopathological variables and the expression of SBEM were analyzed, and its significance as a prognostic indicator for breast cancer patients was determined. Immunohistochemical staining revealed that SBEM was expressed mostly in the cytomembrane and cytoplasm, with markedly increased SBEM expression (≥4 points on staining intensity) observed in 34 of 105 breast cancer tissues (32.4%). Elevated expression of SBEM was found to be significantly associated with larger tumor size (P = 0.002), more frequent lymph node metastasis (P = 0.029), advanced tumor node metastasis stage (P = 0.005), reduced expression of the progesterone receptor (PR) (P = 0.002), and a higher Ki-67 index (P = 0.006). Survival analysis indicated that patients with elevated SBEM expression had worse overall survival (OS) (5-year OS rate: 50.5 vs 93.9% for high and low SBEM expression, respectively, P < 0.001) and disease-free survival (DFS) (5-year DFS rate: 52.8 vs 81.7% for high and low SBEM expression, respectively, P = 0.001) rates than those with low expression of SBEM. Univariate and multivariate Cox analyses demonstrated that elevated expression of SBEM (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.994, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.008–3.945, P = 0.047), tumor size (HR = 2.318, 95% CI: 1.071–5.017, P = 0.033), and PR status (HR = 0.195, 95% CI: 0.055–0.694, P = 0.012) were independent predictors of OS in breast cancer patients. Elevated expression of SBEM was associated with both aggressive tumor characteristics and poor survival, indicating its potential as a useful prognostic biomarker for breast cancer patients.

Abstract Introduction Deucravacitinib, an oral, selective, allosteric tyrosine kinase 2 inhibitor, blocks cytokine signaling involved in psoriasis pathogenesis. This ethnic-bridging study evaluated deucravacitinib pharmacokinetics, tolerability, and safety in healthy Chinese subjects. Methods This phase I, double-blind, single-/multiple-dose study randomized healthy Chinese subjects 4:1 to a single dose of deucravacitinib 6 mg or placebo (group 1) or deucravacitinib 12 mg or placebo (group 2) on day 1; groups 1 and 2 received deucravacitinib 6 mg and 12 mg once daily, respectively, or placebo on days 5–19. Blood samples were collected on days 1–5 (0 predose–96 h postdose), day 5 (0–24 h postdose), days 9 and 12 (0 h), and day 19 (0–24 h postdose). Deucravacitinib and metabolite (BMT-153261, BMT-158170) concentrations were determined using liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry; pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated using noncompartmental analysis. Urine was collected on days 1–4 (4 h predose–96 h postdose). Safety was monitored throughout. Results Forty healthy Chinese subjects (groups 1 and 2: deucravacitinib, n = 32; placebo, n = 8) were enrolled. Deucravacitinib was rapidly absorbed after single-/multiple-dose administration, with median time to maximal plasma concentration of 1.5–2.3 h. Systemic exposure after single or multiple doses increased approximately twofold with twofold dose increase. Modest deucravacitinib accumulation was observed after multiple-dose administration (1.3- to 1.4-fold increase in area under the curve [AUC] under one dosing interval). Metabolite-to-parent ratios for maximal plasma concentration and AUC remained consistent in each dose group. Mean urinary percent recovery and renal clearance were similar between dose groups. Most adverse events (AEs) were mild/moderate, with no serious treatment-related AEs, deaths, or discontinuations due to AEs. Conclusion Deucravacitinib was safe and well tolerated in healthy Chinese subjects. Deucravacitinib exhibited rapid absorption, dose-related increases in exposure, comparable half-life, and no evidence of time-dependent pharmacokinetics, suggesting minimal effect of Chinese ethnicity on deucravacitinib pharmacokinetics. Breast cancer, one of the most common female malignant tumours, mostly metastasizes to the bone, liver and lung. The case of gastric metastasis of breast cancer is relatively rare, and the differentiation of breast cancer from primary gastric cancer is also a major difficulty in clinical practice. In this paper, we report a rare case of gastric metastasis from breast cancer, which was diagnosed as metastatic invasive gastric adenocarcinoma originating from lobular carcinoma of the breast according to the immunohistochemical results of the patient, combined with the patient's medical history. The patient was given fulvestrant injection combined with abecycline for endocrine therapy against tumour after endoscopic mucosal dissection, and the prognosis was good. The clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of this disease are discussed through relevant literature review, with the aim of providing reference for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of gastric metastasis of breast cancer.

Abstract Zanthoxylum nitidum (Roxb.) is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine. However, the collection and protection of wild germplasm resources of Z. nitidum are still insufficient, and there is limited research on its genetic diversity and fingerprint. In the present study, 15 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers were developed by genotyping based on multiplexed shotgun sequencing. The genetic diversity of 51 populations (142 individuals) of Z. nitidum was evaluated using these 15 SSRs. A total of 245 alleles (Na) were detected, with an average value of 16.333, and the average polymorphism information content was 0.756. The genetic distance among 51 populations was 0.164~1.000, with an average of 0.659. Analysis of molecular variance showed low genetic differentiation (40%) and high genetic differentiation (60%) between populations and individuals, respectively. The genetic differentiation coefficient (Fst) of the population was 0.338, indicating that 66.2% of the genetic variation occurred within the population, and the gene flow (Nm) was 0.636, demonstrating that the gene exchange between populations was low. Clustering analysis revealed that the genetic similarity coefficient was 0.30, dividing the 51 populations into 4 groups of 2, 17, 3, and 29 populations. There was no specific relationship between geographical location differences and genetic distance. The genetic diversity level of Z. nitidum is relatively high, and our results provide a theoretical basis for the rapid identification of Z. nitidum germplasm resources and variety selection.

Abstract Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a highly vascularized malignant cancer of the central nervous system, and the presence of vasculogenic mimicry (VM) severely limits the effectiveness of anti-vascular therapy. In this study, we identified downregulated circHECTD1, which acted as a key VM-suppressed factor in GBM. circHECTD1 elevation significantly inhibited cell proliferation, migration, invasion and tube-like structure formation in GBM. RIP assay was used to demonstrate that the flanking intron sequence of circHECTD1 can be specifically bound by RBMS3, thereby inducing circHECTD1 formation to regulate VM formation in GBM. circHECTD1 was confirmed to possess a strong protein-encoding capacity and the encoded functional peptide 463aa was identified by LC-MS/MS. Both circHECTD1 and 463aa significantly inhibited GBM VM formation in vivo and in vitro. Analysis of the 463aa protein sequence revealed that it contained a ubiquitination-related domain and promoted NR2F1 degradation by regulating the ubiquitination of the NR2F1 at K396. ChIP assay verified that NR2F1 could directly bind to the promoter region of MMP2, MMP9 and VE-cadherin, transcriptionally promoting the expression of VM-related proteins, which in turn enhanced VM formation in GBM. In summary, we clarified a novel pathway for RBMS3-induced circHECTD1 encoding functional peptide 463aa to mediate the ubiquitination of NR2F1, which inhibited VM formation in GBM. This study aimed to reveal new mechanisms of GBM progression in order to provide novel approaches and strategies for the anti-vascular therapy of GBM. Abstract Anaplasmosis is a highly prevalent tick-borne intracellular bacterial disease that affects various host species globally, particularly ruminants in tropical and subtropical regions. However, information regarding the distribution and epidemiology of anaplasmosis in small and large ruminants on Hainan Isalnd is limited. To address this knowledge gap, the present study aimed to assess the occurrence of Anaplasma spp. infections in goats (N = 731) and cattle (N = 176) blood samples using nested PCR and conventional PCR based assays. The results revealed an overall prevalence of 30.1% in goats and 14.8% in cattle. The infection rates of A. bovis, A. phagocytophilum, A. ovis and A. capra in goat samples were 22.7%, 13.8%, 2.0% and 3.4%, respectively, while the infection rates of A. bovis, A. phagocytophilum and A. marginale in cattle samples were 11.4%, 6.3% and 5.7%, respectively. A. bovis exhibited the highest prevalence among the Anaplasma spp. in both goat and cattle samples. In addition, the most frequent co-infection was the one with A. phagocytophilum and A. bovis. It was found that the age, sex and feeding habits of cattle and goats were considered to be important risk factors. Evaluation of the risk factor relating to the rearing system showed that the infection rate for the free-range goats and cattle was significantly higher when compared with stall-feeding system. This study represents one of the largest investigations on the distribution, prevalence, and risk factors associated with Anaplasma infection in ruminants on Hainan Island, highlighting a higher circulation of the infection in the region than previously anticipated. Further reasesrch is necessary to investigate tick vectors, reservoir animals, and the zoonotic potential of the Anaplasma spp. in this endemic region of Hainan Island.

Abstract Background Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and serious complication following coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Advanced age is an independent risk factor for the development of AKI, and the incidence of AKI in the elderly increases more rapidly than that in younger patients. This study aimed to develop and validate the risk prediction model for AKI after CABG in elderly patients. Methods Patients were retrospectively recruited from January 2019 to December 2020. AKI after CABG was defined according to the criteria of Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO). The entire population was divided into the derivation set and the verification set using random split sampling (ratio: 7:3). Lasso regression method was applied to screen for the variables in the derivation set. Decision curve analysis (DCA) and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were plotted to analyze the predictive ability of the model for AKI risk in the derivation set and the verification set. Results A total of 2155 patients were enrolled in this study. They were randomly divided into the derivation set (1509 cases) and the validation set (646 cases). Risk factors associated with AKI were selected by Lasso regression including T2DM, diabetes mellitus type intraoperative use of intra-aortic ballon pump (IABP), cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), epinephrine, isoprenaline, and so on. The model was established by Lasso logistic regression. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of the model for the derivation set was 0.754 (95% CI: 0.720 − 0.789), and that for the validation cohort was 0.718 (95% CI: 0.665 − 0.771). Conclusion In this study, the model with significant preoperative and intraoperative variables showed good prediction performance for AKI following CABG in elderly patients to optimize postoperative treatment strategies and improve early prognosis.

Xylem-associated fungus can secrete many secondary metabolites to help Aquilaria trees resist various stresses and play a crucial role in facilitating agarwood formation. However, the dynamics of endophytic fungi in Aquilaria sinensis xylem after artificial induction have not been fully elaborated. Endophytic fungi communities and xylem physio-biochemical properties were examined before and after induction with an inorganic salt solution, including four different times (pre-induction (0M), the third (3M), sixth (6M) and ninth (9M) month after induction treatment). The relationships between fungal diversity and physio-biochemical indices were evaluated. The results showed that superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) activities, malondialdehyde (MDA) and soluble sugar content first increased and then decreased with induction time, while starch was heavily consumed after induction treatment. Endophytic fungal diversity was significantly lower after induction treatment than before, but the species richness was promoted. Fungal β-diversity was also clustered into four groups according to different times. Core species shifted from rare to dominant taxa with induction time, and growing species interactions in the network indicate a gradual complication of fungal community structure. Endophytic fungi diversity and potential functions were closely related to physicochemical indices that had less effect on the relative abundance of the dominant species. These findings help assess the regulatory mechanisms of microorganisms that expedite agarwood formation after artificial induction.

This study explores the biotransformation of phenolic compounds in Rosa rugosa through Lactobacillus plantarum fermentation, enhancing their bioaccessibility and antioxidant capacity. We developed a sensitive and reproducible analytical method using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QqQ-MS/MS), enabling the analysis of 17 phenolic compounds from Rosa (R) and fermented Rosa (FR). Additionally, we conducted a density functional theory (DFT) study to correlate the structure of key phenolic compounds from R and FR with their antioxidant activity. Our findings revealed that both R and FR mitigate oxidative stress in tert-butyl-hydrogen peroxide (TBHP)-induced Caco-2 and HT-29 cells by elevating the activities of crucial antioxidative enzymes, including superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and glutathione reductase (GR). Furthermore, fermented Rosa significantly upregulated Nrf2, γ-GCS, HO-1, and NOQ-1 mRNA expression in TBHP-induced cells with Quantitative and real-time PCR technology, emphasizing its protective function primarily through the Nrf2 signaling pathway. This study is the first to demonstrate the link between the enhanced antioxidant potential in fermented Rosa and the biotransformation of its phenolic compounds. It paves the way for augmenting the antioxidant capacity of plant foods through Lactobacillus plantarum fermentation, offering a novel approach to reinforce their health benefits.

Forests in the wildland-urban interface (WUI) are of high value but vulnerable to wildland fires due to abundant fire ignitions and flammable forest fuels. Restoring the post-fire Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) forest landscape is of utmost importance in order to maintain ecosystem service provision. The near-natural restoration strategy is widely employed in vegetation restoration as it enables the formation of healthy, stable, and diverse artificial mixed forests that resemble natural forests. To evaluate the long-term effects of near-natural restoration on the WUI forest landscape, which are largely unclear, we used a wildfire in 2019 near Shenyang City in northeast China as an example and investigated the post-fire forest dynamics under two different scenarios (i.e., natural succession and near-natural restoration) based on the forest landscape model. The results demonstrated that near-natural restoration can significantly accelerate the restoration process in terms of forest biomass, species biodiversity, and age structure. Under the near-natural restoration scenario, the biomass of the burned area can be quickly restored within 20 years after the fire. At the species level, the biomass and proportion of pioneer tree species such as Pinus tabuliformis and Robinia pseudoacacia decreased under the near-natural restoration scenario, while other species started to increase. Then post-fire near-natural planting accelerated the restoration of forest biodiversity, by 2070, the Shannon–Wiener index was predicted to be 1.49 under natural succession and remained at 2.02 under near-natural restoration. In terms of age structure, near-natural restoration shortens the recovery time of fire trails to mature forests. In summary, near-natural restoration accelerates forest recovery in post-fire WUI areas. Our results highlighted the impact of near-natural restoration on forest conservation to inform post-fire forest planning and management practices.

Abstract Cover crops have been widely adopted to improve soil functions in agroecosystems, including providing carbon (C) inputs that can contribute to soil C sequestration. However, soil C changes may be slow after introducing cover crops in unfavorable environments for soil organic matter (SOM) accumulation, like the Southeast United States subtropical region characterized by a warm humid climate, and coarse‐textured soils. We examined labile C pools as potential early indicators of SOM changes after cover crop introduction in a sandy subtropical vegetable production system. We compared the effects of four cover crop monocultures namely two grasses [sorghum sudangrass, Sorghum bicolor × S bicolor var. Sudanese and pearl millet, Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.], two legumes (sunn hemp, Crotalaria juncea L., and cowpea, Vigna unguiculata Walp.), and one four‐species mixture on soil organic carbon pools for 3 years. Soil samples were collected at a 15‐cm depth before cover crop planting and post cover crop incorporation to assess changes in SOM, permanganate‐oxidizable carbon (POX‐C), mineralizable carbon (Cmin), and water extractable organic carbon (WEOC). The incorporation of cover crops increased concentrations of SOM, POX‐C, and Cmin in year 3 relative to their baseline values in year 1. Concentration of SOM increased by 0.24 ± 0.05% (mean ± standard error) after 3 years of cover crop management. However, concentrations of WEOC significantly decreased in years 2 and 3 relative to the baseline. Monocultures and the mixture had similar effects on measured C pools, likely due to comparable aboveground biomass production. Our findings highlight the potential of POX‐C and Cmin as early indicators of SOM accumulation driven by cover crops use, as well as the capacity of cover crops to build SOM in similar subtropical systems and coarser textured soils.

Abstract Apoptosis‐like programmed cell death is associated with fungal development, ageing, pathogenicity and stress responses. Here, to explore the potential of Botrytis cinerea type II inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) BcBIR1 in elevating the biocontrol efficacy of Coniothyrium minitans, the BcBIR1 gene was heterologously expressed in C. minitans. Results indicated that the strains expressing BcBIR1 had higher rates of conidiation, mycelial growth and biomass growth than the wild‐type strain. Moreover, BcBIR1 was found to inhibit apoptosis, indicating its role as an IAP in C. minitans. Under various abiotic stresses, the growth rates of BcBIR1‐expressing strains were significantly higher than that of the wild‐type strain. Moreover, the conidial survival rate of the BcBIR1‐expressing strains treated with ultraviolet irradiation was enhanced. In antifungal activity assay, the culture filtrates of BcBIR1‐expressing strains displayed a stronger inhibitory effect on B. cinerea and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum than the wild‐type strain. The study also found that BcBIR1 expression increased the mycoparasitism against the sclerotia, but not the hyphae of S. sclerotiorum. Taken together, these results suggest that BcBIR1 enhances vegetative growth, conidiation, anti‐apoptosis activity, abiotic stress resistance, antifungal activity and mycoparasitism in C. minitans. As an IAP, BcBIR1 may improve the control capacity of C. minitans against S. sclerotiorum.

Digging deep into the value of the cultural heritage of Mingxi Nanshan Ruins and continuing the historical lineage is a mission given by history to contemporary people. This paper chooses Mingxi Nanshan Ruins as the research object, combs through the specific framework of emerging information technology, and analyzes the application strategy for digitizing cultural heritage. The digital experience system of Nanshan Ruins in Mingxi is designed by combining emerging information technology with the guidance of immersive psychological experiences for users. The drone close photogrammetry technique is selected to acquire images of Mingxi Nanshan Ruins, and the measurement routes of the drone are carefully planned. Based on the imaging model of a pinhole camera, the reconstruction process of the three-dimensional model of Mingxi Nanshan Ruins is designed by combining the position optimization of the drone image with the geometric constraints of the pole. For the effectiveness of the UAV proximity photogrammetry technique, its positional measurement accuracy, model quantifiability, and positional accuracy were verified, and feasibility assessment and user digital interactive experience were designed to obtain a subjective evaluation of the digital experience system of the Nanshan Ruins in Mingxi. The RMSE-H obtained from the refined route planning is 0.3294cm, the mean value of the error in the plane of the 3D model of Mingxi Nanshan Ruins is 0.022m, and the mean value of the user’s subjective evaluation of the digital experience system is 4.39 points. Using emerging information technology as a guide, we can realize the digital reconstruction of the cultural heritage of Mingxi Nanshan Ruins and provide a new path for its digital protection.

Physical education (PE) within higher education plays a crucial role in fostering moral integrity among students. However, traditional approaches in PE have often struggled to align with student needs, leading to suboptimal educational outcomes. To address these challenges, this study employs and refines the Kano model to better analyze and categorize student needs in PE classrooms. By adopting mixed class analysis, the ambiguity typically associated with classifying needs in the conventional Kano model is significantly reduced. This refinement allows for a more nuanced consideration of various demand elements. Utilizing the Better-Worse coefficient, the study evaluates the influence of distinct educational needs on student satisfaction within courses. This analysis facilitates the identification of specific types of needs. For instance, in a controlled study focusing on basketball training, the application of the revised Kano model yielded notable improvements in students’ basketball skills. Specifically, scores for the 5-step backward shot increased from 12.55 to 15.97, and scores for the marching shot rose from 8.64 to 11.04. Additional enhancements were observed in the marching pass and half-court folding dribble, improving by 2 and 4 points, respectively. Furthermore, the basketball theory scores of students in the experimental group surpassed those of the control group by 7.92 points, with classroom satisfaction ratings also averaging 2.2 points higher. These findings underscore the substantial impact of the enhanced Kano model on improving basketball skills, theoretical understanding, and overall classroom satisfaction, highlighting its efficacy in tailoring PE curricula to meet student needs more effectively.

BackgroundFoliage color is considered an important ornamental character of Cymbidium tortisepalum (C. tortisepalum), which significantly improves its horticultural and economic value. However, little is understood on the formation mechanism underlying foliage-color variations.MethodsIn this study, we applied a multi-omics approach based on transcriptomics and metabolomics, to investigate the biomolecule mechanisms of metabolites changes in C. tortisepalum colour mutation cultivars.ResultsA total of 508 genes were identified as differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between wild and foliage colour mutation C. tortisepalum cultivars based on transcriptomic data. KEGG enrichment of DEGs showed that genes involved in phenylalanine metabolism, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, flavonoid biosynthesis and brassinosteroid biosynthesis were most significantly enriched. A total of 420 metabolites were identified in C. tortisepalum using UPLC-MS/MS-based approach and 115 metabolites differentially produced by the mutation cultivars were identified. KEGG enrichment indicated that the most metabolites differentially produced by the mutation cultivars were involved in glycerophospholipid metabolism, tryptophan metabolism, isoflavonoid biosynthesis, flavone and flavonol biosynthesis. Integrated analysis of the metabolomic and transcriptomic data showed that there were four significant enrichment pathways between the two cultivars, including phenylalanine metabolism, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, flavone and flavonol biosynthesis and flavonoid biosynthesis.ConclusionThe results of this study revealed the mechanism of metabolites changes in C. tortisepalum foliage colour mutation cultivars, which provides a new reference for breeders to improve the foliage color of C. tortisepalum.

Excessive Cd accumulation in soil reduces the production of numerous plants, such as Sophora tonkinensis Gagnep., which is an important and widely cultivated medicinal plant whose roots and rhizomes are used in traditional Chinese medicine. Applying a mixture of biochar and organic fertilizers improved the overall health of the Cd-contaminated soil and increased the yield and quality of Sophora. However, the underlying mechanism between this mixed fertilization and the improvement of the yield and quality of Sophora remains uncovered. This study investigated the effect of biochar and organic fertilizer application (BO, biochar to organic fertilizer ratio of 1:2) on the growth of Sophora cultivated in Cd-contaminated soil. BO significantly reduced the total Cd content (TCd) in the Sophora rhizosphere soil and increased the soil water content, overall soil nutrient levels, and enzyme activities in the soil. Additionally, the α diversity of the soil bacterial community had been significantly improved after BO treatment. Soil pH, total Cd content, total carbon content, and dissolved organic carbon were the main reasons for the fluctuation of the bacterial dominant species. Further investigation demonstrated that the abundance of variable microorganisms, including Acidobacteria, Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, Chloroflexi, Gemmatimonadetes, Patescibacteria, Armatimonadetes, Subgroups_ 6, Bacillus and Bacillus_ Acidiceler, was also significantly changed in Cd-contaminated soil. All these alterations could contribute to the reduction of the Cd content and, thus, the increase of the biomass and the content of the main secondary metabolites (matrine and oxymatrine) in Sophora. Our research demonstrated that the co-application of biochar and organic fertilizer has the potential to enhance soil health and increase the productivity and quality of plants by regulating the microorganisms in Cd-contaminated soil.

Baicalin is a small molecule medication used to treat hepatitis. Our research group discovered that administering baicalin orally to mice following fecal microbiota transplantation from patients resistant to ICIs supported anti-PD-1 activity. However, the precise mechanisms behind this effect are presently unknown. In this present study, ATB-treated C57BL/6 J mice received FMT from patients with advanced NSCLC amenable to αPD-1. Additionally, subcutaneous LLC cells were injected into the mice. Baicalin oral gavage and αPD-1 injection were administered to the mice on days 3 and 9 after tumour inoculation. 16 S rRNA, metabolomics, and flow cytometry were utilized to clarify the mechanisms of baicalin's relief of immunosuppression. The results indicated that oral administration of baicalin enriched bacteria such as Akkermansia and Clostridia_UCG-014, resulted in an increase in SCFAs, which improved the ratio of PD-1+ (CD8+ T cell/Treg) and promoted the levels of IFN-γ+ CD8+ T cells and TNF-α+ CD8+ T cells within the tumour microenvironment. In conclusion, baicalin regulates the metabolites of the gut microbiota to improve the PD-1+ (CD8+ T cell/Treg) balance and circumvent anti-PD-1 resistance. This is achieved through the regulation of short-chain fatty acids.

The escalating environmental concerns and energy crisis caused by internal combustion engines (ICE) have become unacceptable under environmental regulations and the energy crisis. As a promising alternative solution, multi-power source electric vehicles (MPS-EVs) integrate various clean energy systems to enhance the powertrain efficiency. The energy management strategy (EMS) is plays a pivotal role for MPS-EVs to maximize efficiency, fuel economy, and range. Reinforcement Learning (RL) has emerged as an effective methodology for EMS development, attracting continuous attention and research. However, a systematic analysis of the design elements of RL-based EMS is currently lacking. This paper addresses this gap by presenting a comprehensive analysis of current research on RL-based EMS (RL-EMS) and summarizing its design elements. This paper first summarizes the previous applications of RL in EMS from five aspects: algorithm, perception scheme, decision scheme, reward function, and innovative training method. It highlights the contributions of advanced algorithms to training effectiveness, provides a detailed analysis of perception and control schemes, classifies different reward function settings, and elucidates the roles of innovative training methods. Finally, by comparing the development routes of RL and RL-EMS, this paper identifies the gap between advanced RL solutions and existing RL-EMS. Potential development directions are suggested for implementing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions in EMS.

Abstract Marine microplastics are emerging as a growing environmental concern due to their potential harm to marine biota. The substantial variations in their physical and chemical properties pose a significant challenge when it comes to sampling and characterizing small-sized microplastics. In this study, we introduce a novel microfluidic approach that simplifies the trapping and identification process of microplastics in surface seawater, eliminating the need for labeling. We examine various models, including support vector machine, random forest, convolutional neural network (CNN), and residual neural network (ResNet34), to assess their performance in identifying 11 common plastics. Our findings reveal that the CNN method outperforms the other models, achieving an impressive accuracy of 93% and a mean area under the curve of 98 ± 0.02%. Furthermore, we demonstrate that miniaturized devices can effectively trap and identify microplastics smaller than 50 µm. Overall, this proposed approach facilitates efficient sampling and identification of small-sized microplastics, potentially contributing to crucial long-term monitoring and treatment efforts.

Scope: High-fat diet (HFD) induces imbalance in the small intestine environment, where fat digestion and absorption mainly take place. This study aimed to elucidate the mechanisms by which Lonicera caerulea polyphenols (LCP) might inhibit fat absorption, from the perspective of small intestine microbiota and epithelial barrier integrity. Methods and results: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were given HFD with or without co-administration of LCP for 8 weeks. The results showed that LCP supplementation significantly decreased the levels of serum triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and increased the contents of fecal sterols, in HFD rats. LCP also inhibited the dysfunction of the small intestine epithelial barrier, via alleviating the oxidative stress activated by Nrf2-ARE pathway, and by modulating the expressions of pro-inflammatory factors such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), nuclear factor kappa-B p65 (NF-κB p65) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in the small intestine. Additionally, LCP administration restored the balance in small intestine microbiota and increased the abundance of the specific bacteria, such as Lactobacillus, involved in fat absorption. Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that LCP may be beneficial to inhibit fat absorption. The mechanism seems to be associated with the protection of the epithelial barrier integrity and the modulation of specific bacteria in the small intestine.

With its unique properties and potential applications, nanoparticle-based delivery platforms for messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines have gained significant attention in recent years. Nanoparticles have the advantages of enhancing immunogenicity, targeting delivery, and improving stability, providing a new solution for drug and vaccine delivery. In some clinical studies, a variety of nanoparticle delivery platforms have been gradually applied to a wide range of vaccine applications. Current research priorities are exploring various types of nanoparticles as vaccine delivery systems to enhance vaccine stability and immunogenicity. Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) have shown promising potential in preclinical and clinical studies on the efficient delivery of antigens to immune cells. Moreover, lipid nanoparticles and other nanoparticles for nucleic acids, especially for mRNA delivery systems, have shown vast potential for vaccine development. In this review, we present various vaccine platforms with an emphasis on nanoparticles as mRNA vaccine delivery vehicles. We describe several novel nanoparticle delivery platforms for mRNA vaccines, such as lipid-, polymer-, and protein-based nanoparticles. In addition, we provide an overview of the anti-tumor immunity of nanovaccines against different tumors in cancer immunotherapy. Finally, we outline future perspectives and remaining challenges for this promising technology of nanoparticle-based delivery platforms for vaccines.

Probiotics are natural microbial agents with beneficial properties such as bacteriostatic and anti-infective properties. Lactobacillus plantarum Q21, Q25 and QA85, were isolated from the Chinese specialty fermented food “Jiangshui” and proved to be highly resistant to Helicobacter pylori (p < 0.0001). In vitro results showed that Q21, Q25 and QA85 strongly inhibited H. pylori and could specifically co-aggregate H. pylori in vitro (more than 56%). Strains have the potential to adhere to cells and hinder H. pylori colonization (p < 0.0001). To assess the anti-H. pylori efficacy of strains in vivo, volunteers were recruited and a self-controlled study of probiotic intervention was conducted. Compared to pre-probiotics, volunteers who took Q21, Q25 and QA85 for 1 month showed significant improvement in discomfort, a significant reduction in GSRS scores (p < 0.05), and modulation of inflammatory response (p < 0.05). Q21, Q25 and QA85 resulted in a decreasing trend of H. pylori load in volunteers (454.30 ± 327.00 vs. 328.35 ± 237.19, p = 0.06). However, the strains were not significantly effective in modulating the imbalance of the gut microbiota caused by H. pylori infection. In addition, strains affect metabolic pathways by increasing the levels of O-Phosphoethanolamine and other related metabolites, which may ameliorate associated symptoms. Therefore, Lactobacillus plantarum Q21, Q25 and QA85 can be regarded as a candidate probiotic preparation that exerts direct or indirect anti-H. pylori effects by inhibiting H. pylori activity and colonization, reducing inflammation and discomfort, maintaining homeostasis in the internal environment, affecting the metabolic pathways and repairing the body barrier. They can play a role in relieving H. pylori infection.

Objective: To understand the prevalence of home-related anxiety among adolescent athletes during the novel coronavirus pandemic and to ascertain the factors influencing this anxiety. Methods: We employed cluster sampling to select 1150 adolescent athletes (aged 8–18 years) from six sports training schools in Yantai City, Shandong Province. Mental health status was assessed and recorded. Chi-square tests and multivariable logistic regression were used to analyze the factors contributing to athletes’ anxiety. Results: The survey revealed a COVID-19 infection rate of 38.23% (437 individuals) with an anxiety score of 40.98 ± 8.20 and an anxiety detection rate of 11.29% (129 individuals) during the COVID-19 epidemic. Female athletes exhibited a higher anxiety rate of 14.40% compared to 8.40% in male athletes. Multivariate analysis identified female gender as a risk factor for anxiety (OR = 1.64), while participation in aquatics emerged as a protective factor (OR = 0.24, 95% CI: 1.08–2.48). Professional training duration exceeding three years increased anxiety risk (OR = 3.05, 95% CI: 1.67–5.58), as did not seeking help during difficulties (OR = 2.59, 95% CI: 1.33–5.01). Interestingly, parental care was linked to increased anxiety risk (OR = 2.44, 95% CI 1.34–4.44), while care from friends was protective (OR = 0.60, 95% CI: 0.36–1.01), which was possibly due to the pressure associated with parental expectations. Conclusions: Adolescent athletes, particularly females and those with extended training durations, exhibit a heightened susceptibility to anxiety. This study also highlights that athletes who proactively seek assistance during challenging situations tend to experience lower anxiety levels. Additionally, a lack of COVID-19 infection and the involvement of concerned parents contribute to reduced anxiety among these young athletes.
