Abstract

Facial symmetry evaluation has always been a hot topic of concern for doctors who engage in the study of facial beauty disciplines such as orthodontics, dentistry, and plastic surgery. Although scholars at home and abroad have carried out much research on the evaluation of facial symmetry with a variety of emerging technologies and methods, there is still a lack of unified standards for the evaluation of facial asymmetry due to the complexity of the content and methods and individual subjectivity. Facial asymmetry involves changes in the length, width and height of the face. It is a complex dental and maxillofacial malformation whose early identification and accurate evaluation are particularly important. Clinically, in addition to the necessary dental and maxillofacial examinations, it is also necessary to evaluate facial asymmetry with the help of corresponding auxiliary methods. This paper gives a summary of the commonly used three-dimensional evaluation methods. The evaluation methods of facial asymmetry can be divided into 5 categories: qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis, dynamic analysis, mathematical analysis, and artificial intelligence analysis. After the analysis and summarization of the characteristics, advantages and limitations of each method in clinical applications, it is found that although these methods vary in accuracy, evaluation scope, diagnosis nature and calculation method, etc., the three-dimensional evaluation methods are more objective, more accurate and more convenient and will become the mainstream evaluation method for facial asymmetry with further development of three-dimensional measurement technologies.

30. Identifying touchpoints between British and Chinese women's art in the twenty-first century

Abstract

Studies of women's art in the current century are redressing past invisibilities by involving diverse groups of women. However, new questions have been raised; how do we appreciate women's artworks across cultural boundaries? How do we undermine the gender binary that has caused an imbalance in culture and in the art world? This thesis is concerned with these questions and studies eight installation works produced by eight women artists from Britain and China, with analysis that opens up more possibilities in a transcultural context. To achieve that, I provide a semiotic analysis to the selected artworks that is guided by a phenomenological feminist standpoint theory. These artworks are categorised into three principal themes: the female body, domesticity, and reproduction for a systematic interpretation. The analysis is enriched by semi-structured interviews with each artist as well as exhibition catalogues, art reviews, and scholarly publications. Throughout the analysis, the concept of entanglement also comes into play - I seek the common grounds while reserving the differences between the selected artworks. The result is termed 'touchpoints'. I identify six touchpoints in this study that bridge the selected artworks to reach across the themes and also enable greater understanding of the dialogue between sociocultural differences. This thesis thus provides one way of reading the selected artworks and challenges the current sociocultural binaries inherent in gender/power relations through the production of transcultural knowledge.

37. An empirical study of touch-based authentication methods on smartwatches

Abstract

The emergence of smartwatches poses new challenges to information security. Although there are mature touch-based authentication methods for smartphones, the effectiveness of using these methods on smartwatches is still unclear. We conducted a user study (n=16) to evaluate how authentication methods (PIN and Pattern), UIs (Square and Circular), and display sizes (38mm and 42mm) affect authentication accuracy, speed, and security. Circular UIs are tailored to smartwatches with fewer UI elements. Results show that 1) PIN is more accurate and secure than Pattern; 2) Pattern is much faster than PIN; 3) Square UIs are more secure but less accurate than Circular UIs; 4) display size does not affect accuracy or speed, but security; 5) Square PIN is the most secure method of all. The study also reveals a security concern that participants' favorite method is not the best in any of the measures. Abstract

This study examines the possible consequence of elder mistreatment on resilience and whether social support moderates this posited association, using a rural sample of 432 community-dwelling older Chinese adults aged 60 to 79 years. Elder abuse included verbal abuse, physical abuse, or financial exploitation. Social support was measured by The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Resilience was represented by a seven-item scale. Hierarchical regression models indicated that mistreatment is significantly related to low levels of resilience when confounding factors are adjusted. A significant interaction term (abuse × social support) was also detected. Mistreated respondents who reported higher levels of social support were less likely to experience low resilience compared to those with lower levels of social support. Social support buffers against the undesirable effect of mistreatment on resilience, especially for those who were abused. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
