1. Magnetic topological Weyl fermions in half-metallic In$_2$CoSe$_4$

Abstract

Magnetic Weyl semimetals (WSM) have recently attracted much attention due to their potential in realizing strong anomalous Hall effects. Yet, how to design such systems remains unclear. Based on first-principles calculations, we show here that the ferromagnetic half-metallic compound In$_2$CoSe$_4$ has several pairs of Weyl points and is hence a good candidate for magnetic WSM. These Weyl points would approach the Fermi level gradually as the Hubbard $U$ increases, and finally disappear after a critical value $U_c$. The range of the Hubbard $U$ that can realize the magnetic WSM state can be expanded by pressure, manifesting the practical utility of the present prediction. Moreover, by generating two surface terminations at Co or In atom after cleaving the compound at the Co-Se bonds, the nontrivial Fermi arcs connecting one pair of Weyl points with opposite chirality are discovered in surface states. Furthermore, it is possible to observe the nontrivial surface state experimentally, e.g., angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) measurements. As such, the present findings imply strongly a new magnetic WSM which may host a large anomalous Hall conductivity.

8. Nextformer: A ConvNeXt Augmented Conformer For End-To-End Speech Recognition

Abstract

Conformer models have achieved state-of-the-art(SOTA) results in end-to-end speech recognition. However Conformer mainly focuses on temporal modeling while pays less attention on time-frequency property of speech feature. In this paper we augment Conformer with ConvNeXt and propose Nextformer structure. We use stacks of ConvNeXt block to replace the commonly used subsampling module in Conformer for utilizing the information contained in time-frequency speech feature. Besides, we insert an additional downsampling module in middle of Conformer layers to make our model more efficient and accurate. We conduct experiments on two opening datasets, AISHELL-1 and WenetSpeech. On AISHELL-1, compared to Conformer baselines, Nextformer obtains 7.3% and 6.3% relative CER reduction in non-streaming and streaming mode respectively, and on a much larger WenetSpeech dataset, Nextformer gives 5.0%~6.5% and 7.5%~14.6% relative CER reduction in non-streaming and streaming mode, while keep the computational cost FLOPs comparable to Conformer. 14. Synthesis of Ni decorated MoOx nanorod catalysts for efficient overall urea–water splitting.

Abstract

Substituting slow oxygen evolution reaction (OER) with thermodynamically favorable urea oxidation reaction (UOR) is considered as one of the feasible strategies for achieving energy-saving hydrogen production. Herein, a uniform layer of NiMoO4 nanorods was grown on nickel foam by a hydrothermal method. Then, a series of Ni-MoOx/NF-X nanorod catalysts comprising Ni/NiO and MoOx (MoO2/MoO3) were prepared through regulating annealing atmosphere and reduction temperature. The optimized Ni-MoOx/NF-3 with a large accessible specific area can act as a bifunctional catalyst for electrocatalytic anodic UOR and cathodic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). At a current density of 100 mA cm−2, the introduction of urea can significantly reduce the overpotential of Ni-MoOx/NF-3 by 210 mV compared to OER. In addition, Ni-MoOx/NF-3 has a higher intrinsic activity than other catalysts. It only requires −0.21 and 1.38 V to reach 100 mA cm−2 in HER and UOR, respectively. Such an excellent performance can be attributed to the synergistic function between Ni and MoOx. The presence of metallic Ni and reduced MoOx in pairs is beneficial for improving the electrical conductivity and modulating the electronic structure, resulting in enhancing the electrocatalytic performance. When assembling Ni-MoOx/NF-3 into an overall urea–water splitting system, it can achieve energy-saving hydrogen production and effective removal of urea-rich wastewater. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

29. WNARS: WFST based Non-autoregressive Streaming End-to-End Speech Recognition

Abstract

Recently, attention-based encoder-decoder (AED) end-to-end (E2E) models have drawn more and more attention in the field of automatic speech recognition (ASR). AED models, however, still have drawbacks when deploying in commercial applications. Autoregressive beam search decoding makes it inefficient for high-concurrency applications. It is also inconvenient to integrate external word-level language models. The most important thing is that AED models are difficult for streaming recognition due to global attention mechanism. In this paper, we propose a novel framework, namely WNARS, using hybrid CTC-attention AED models and weighted finite-state transducers (WFST) to solve these problems together. We switch from autoregressive beam search to CTC branch decoding, which performs first-pass decoding with WFST in chunk-wise streaming way. The decoder branch then performs second-pass rescoring on the generated hypotheses non-autoregressively. On the AISHELL-1 task, our WNARS achieves a character error rate of 5.22% with 640ms latency, to the best of our knowledge, which is the state-of-the-art performance for online ASR. Further experiments on our 10,000-hour Mandarin task show the proposed method achieves more than 20% improvements with 50% latency compared to a strong TDNN-BLSTM lattice-free MMI baseline.

37. Widely Targeted Metabolomic Analysis of Different Organs of Single- and Double-Petal Jasmine

Abstract

In this study, the metabolites in the flowers and leaves of single- and double-petal jasmine were determined and compared by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) combined with multivariate statistical analysis. The results showed that a total of 935 metabolites were identified from all samples, including amino acids and derivatives, phenolic acids, nucleotides and derivatives, flavonoids, lignans and coumarins, tannins, alkaloids, terpenoids, organic acids, lipids, saccharides and sugar alcohols, vitamins, and other compounds. Totally 348 and 337 significantly changed metabolites (SCMs) from the flowers and leaves were identified between single- and double-petal jasmine, respectively. The major SCMs were phenolic acids, flavonoids, lipids, saccharides and sugar alcohols. The leaves of double-petal jasmine were rich in flavonoids. In addition, the flavone and flavonol biosynthesis pathways were more active, leading to accumulation of more compounds with biological and pharmacological activities such as nicotiflorin, cynaroside, quercetin, quercetin-3-O-glucoside, astragalin, and afzelin. Lipids were the major unique metabolites in the flowers and leaves of single-petal jasmine. The unique metabolites in the flowers and leaves of double-petal jasmine were more diverse and abundant than those in single-petal jasmine. The results of this study are very meaningful for guiding the development of jasmine resources.

Abstract

Audio-visual speech recognition (AVSR) system is thought to be one of the most promising solutions for robust speech recognition, especially in noisy environment. In this paper, we propose a novel multimodal attention based method for audio-visual speech recognition which could automatically learn the fused representation from both modalities based on their importance. Our method is realized using state-of-the-art sequence-to-sequence (Seq2seq) architectures. Experimental results show that relative improvements from 2% up to 36% over the auditory modality alone are obtained depending on the different signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR). Compared to the traditional feature concatenation methods, our proposed approach can achieve better recognition performance under both clean and noisy conditions. 46. Teachers' Relationships with Children in the Finnish Early Childhood Education Context: A Validation Study

Abstract

This study examined the factorial validity and measurement invariance of the Student-Teacher Relationship Scale--Short Form (STRS-SF), modified by Whitaker et al. (2015), in the Finnish Early Childhood Education (ECE) context. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) supported the two-factor model of Closeness and Conflict after some item modifications and partial strong measurement invariance across ECE student teachers and two qualified ECE teacher groups. In general, the participants perceived high levels of closeness and low levels of conflicts with children. The qualified teachers who voluntarily enrolled in training to improve their professional competence perceived their relationships with children as more conflictual, reported less working experience, and had younger children in their classrooms, compared to the other qualified teachers. The student teachers perceived less closeness than the teachers but reported fewer conflicts than the teachers enrolled in training. This study extended the application of the STRS-SF in teacher education and research to a Nordic cultural context.
