This study examines Machiavellianism and negative life events in relation to emotional / behavioral problems. Using a sample of adolescents (n = 454), we investigated the degree to which Machiavellianism, negative life events, and the interaction of Machiavellianism and negative life events accounts for variance in emotional / behavioral problems, and also tested for the moderating effect of gender in this respect. The results indicated that (a) Machiavellianism was positively related to negative life events, suggesting that the more adolescents endorsed Machiavellianism, the greater their scores on negative life events; (b) the correlation between Machiavellianism and conduct problems was stronger in boys than girls, thereby suggesting a more substantial relation between Machiavellianism and conduct problems in boys than girls; (c) increasing levels of Machiavellianism could increase the contributions of negative life events to the levels of emotional symptoms, conduct problems, and peer relationship problems. This study investigated the impact of indoor illuminance and correlated color temperature (CCT) on healthy adults' cognitive performance, subjective mood, and alertness during daytime office hours and differences in time-of-day effects. A 2(illuminance) × 2(CCT) × 2(morning vs. afternoon) mixed design (N = 60) was employed. Participants felt less sleepy in the bright light exposure. The low "cool" lighting induced the least positive mood. The effects of illuminance and CCT on subjective feelings were not time-of-day dependent. The results demonstrated the slowest responses in inhibition, working memory, and recognition of facial expression tasks in the low "warm" lighting. The effect on long-term memory was most pronounced under the high "cool" light exposure, but only in the afternoon for recognition of neutral words. The findings suggest that future research on good indoor lighting should consider illuminance levels and CCT as well as other variables to optimize lighting effects during regular daytime hours. PWWP-DOMAIN INTERACTOR OF POLYCOMBS (PWO) family proteins play a vital role in regulating plant development. However, the molecular mechanisms of how PWOs regulate chromatin structure is elusive. Our data show that the PWO1 binding sites are enriched with positive modifications but exclusive with H3K27me3. Moreover, PWO1 binds to the H3K27me3-enriched compartment domain (H3K27me3-CD) boundary regions, and functions to maintain the boundary strength. Meanwhile, we found that PWOs and Polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2) function parallelly in maintaining H3K27me3-CDs' structure. Loss of either PWOs or PRC2 leads to H3K27me3-CD strength reduction, B to A compartment switching as well as the H3K27me3-CD relocating away from the nuclear periphery. Additionally, PWOs and lamin-like proteins collaborate to regulate multiple chromatin structures to repress gene transcription within H3K27me3-CDs.
