Terahertz (THz) enables promising Tbps-level wireless transmission thanks to its prospect of ultra-huge spectrum utilization and narrow beamforming in the next sixth-generation (6G) communication system. Compared to millimeter wave (mmWave), THz intrinsically possesses compellingly severer molecular absorption and high pathloss serving confined coverage area. These defects should be well conquered under the employment of ultra-thin 3D beamforming with enormous deployed antennas with high beam gains. However, pencil-beams require substantially high overhead of time and power to train its optimal THz beamforming direction. We propose an energy efficient (EE) oriented THz beamforming (EETBF) scheme by separating the original complex problem into beamforming training (EETBF-BT) acquirement and learning-enabled training power assignment (EETBF-PA). The historical beam data is employed to update next beam selection policy. The performance results have demonstrated that the proposed EETBF outperforms the existing benchmarks leveraging full beam search, iterative search, linear/binary search as well as non-power-control based mechanism in open literature. Our proposed EETBF scheme results in the lowest training latency and power consumption, achieving the highest effective rate and EE performance.

User-centric cell-free (UCCF) wireless networks have a range of distinguished characteristics, which can be exploited for meeting some challenges that the conventional cellular systems are hard to. This chapter is devoted to delivering the fundamentals of wireless communications in UCCF systems, including channel modeling and estimation, uplink (UL) detection, downlink (DL) transmission, and resource optimization. Specifically, the advantages of cell-free networking are examined in contrast to the conventional celluar systems. The global and location-aware distributed UL detection are explored in the principles of minimum mean-square error (MMSE) and brief propagation. Correspondingly, the global and distributed DL transmission schemes are designed based on the MMSE precoding. The optimization of both UL and DL is analyzed with respect to system design and resource-allocation. The fundamentals of MIMO communications and MIMO sensing are firstly analyzed with regard to channel and sensing capacities. It is shown that the different objectives of communications and sensing lead to different signaling waveforms required for achieving their capacities. Hence, the optimization of integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) is relied on a trade-off expected between the performance of communications and that of sensing. Following this observation, the design and resource optimization in general MIMO ISAC systems are discussed along with the analysis of some existing ISAC schemes. Furthermore, the design of ISAC in mmWave communications is addressed. A conceptual example is first analyzed to show that efficient wireless communications is possible, when user equipment (UE) receiver, BS transmitter or/and the scatter (reflector) in wireless channels employ the required channel state information (CSI) to remove the randomness of signal phase. Then, the principles and optimization of three reflective intelligent surface (RIS) assisted mmWave (RIS-mmWave) models are introduced. The first model assumes one BS, one RIS and one UE; the second one assumes one BS, one RIS and multiple UEs; while the third RIS-mmWave model assumes one BS, multiple RISs and multiple UEs. Furthermore, the optimization of BS precoder and RIS phase-shifts is addressed in the context of the massive RIS-mmWave scenarios, where the number of BS antennas and that of RIS reflection elements are significantly larger than the number of supported UEs. The analyses demonstrate that, while the deployment of RISs with mmWave is capable of solving the blockage problem and has the potential to significantly improve efficiency, finding the near-optimum solutions for RIS phase-shifts is highly challenging in practice.

The sparsity of millimeter wave (mmWave) channels in the angular and temporal domains is beneficial to channel estimation, while the associated channel parameters can be utilized for localization. However, line-of-sight (LoS) blockage poses a significant challenge on the localization in mmWave systems, potentially leading to substantial positioning errors. A promising solution is to employ reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) to generate the virtual line-of-sight (VLoS) paths to aid localization. Consequently, wireless localization in the RIS-assisted mmWave systems has become the essential research issue. In this paper, a multiple measurement vector (MMV) model is constructed and a two-stage channel estimation based localization scheme is proposed. During the first stage, by exploiting the beamspace sparsity and employing a random RIS phase shift matrix, the channel parameters are estimated, based on which the precoder at base station and combiner at user equipment (UE) are designed. Then, in the second stage, based on the designed precoding and combining matrices, the optimal phase shift matrix for RIS is designed using the proposed modified temporally correlated multiple sparse Bayesian learning (TMSBL) algorithm. Afterwards, the channel parameters, such as angle of reflection, time-of-arrival, etc., embedding location information are estimated for finally deriving the location of UE. We demonstrate the achievable performance of the proposed algorithm and compare it with the state-of-the-art algorithms. Our studies show that the proposed localization scheme is capable of achieving centimeter level localization accuracy, when LoS path is blocked. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm has a low computational complexity and outperforms the legacy algorithms in different perspectives.

To accomplish relatively complex tasks, in Internet of Bio-Nano Things (IoBNT), information collected by different nano-machines (NMs) is usually sent via multiple-access channels to fusion centers (FCs) for further processing. Relying on two types of molecules, in this paper, a molecular code-division multiple-access (MoCDMA) scheme is designed for multiple NMs to simultaneously send information to an access-point (AP) in a diffusive molecular communications (DMC) environment. We assume that different NMs may have different distances from AP, which generates `near-far' effect. Correspondingly, the uniform and channel-inverse based molecular emission schemes are proposed for NMs to emit information molecules. To facilitate the design of different signal detection schemes, the received signals by AP are represented in different forms. Specifically, by considering the limited computational power of nano-machines, three low-complexity detectors are designed in the principles of matched-filtering (MF), zero-forcing (ZF), and minimum mean-square error (MMSE). The noise characteristics in MoCDMA systems and the complexity of various detection schemes are analyzed. The error performance of the MoCDMA systems with various molecular emission and detection schemes is demonstrated and compared. Our studies and performance results demonstrate that MoCDMA constitutes a promising scheme for supporting multiple-access transmission in DMC, while the channel-inverse based transmission can ensure the fairness of communication qualities (FoCQ) among different NMs. Furthermore, different detection schemes may be implemented to attain a good trade-off between implementation complexity and communication reliability.

The principle of orthogonal time-frequency-space (OTFS) signaling is firstly analyzed, followed by explaining that OTFS embeds another signaling scheme referred to as orthogonal short-time Fourier (OSTF). Then, the relationship among OTFS, OSTF, orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) and single-carrier frequency-division multiple-access (SC-FDMA) is explored, demonstrating that OSTF/OTFS are fundamentally the extensions of OFDM/SC-FDMA from one-dimensional (1D) signaling to two-dimensional (2D) signaling. Hence, the characteristics and performance of OSTF/OTFS schemes can be perceived from the well-understood OFDM/SC-FDMA schemes. Accordingly, the advantages and disadvantages of OSTF/OTFS are discussed. Furthermore, from the principles of OFDM/SC-FDMA, the multiuser multiplexing in OSTF/OTFS systems is analyzed with respect to uplink and downlink, respectively. Added on this, a range of generalized multiplexing schemes are presented, whose characteristics are briefly analyzed.

Wireless sensing and wireless energy are enablers to pave the way for smart transportation and a greener future. In this paper, an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) assisted integrated sensing and wireless power transfer (ISWPT) system is investigated, where the transmitter in transportation infrastructure networks sends signals to sense multiple targets and simultaneously to multiple energy harvesting devices (EHDs) to power them. In light of the performance tradeoff between energy harvesting and sensing, we propose to jointly optimize the system performance via optimizing the beamforming and IRS phase shift. However, the coupling of optimization variables makes the formulated problem non-convex. Thus, an alternative optimization approach is introduced and based on which two algorithms are proposed to solve the problem. Specifically, the first one involves a semi-definite program technique, while the second one features a low-complexity optimization algorithm based on successive convex approximation and majorization minimization. Space-time shift keying-aided orthogonal time frequency space modulation-based multiple access (STSK-OTFS-MA) is proposed for reliable uplink transmission in high-Doppler scenarios. As a beneficial feature of our STSK-OTFS-MA system, extra information bits are mapped onto the indices of the active dispersion matrices, which allows the system to enjoy the joint benefits of both STSK and OTFS signalling. Due to the fact that both the time-, space- and DD-domain degrees of freedom are jointly exploited, our STSK-OTFS-MA achieves increased diversity and coding gains. To mitigate the potentially excessive detection complexity, the sparse structure of the equivalent transmitted symbol vector is exploited, resulting in a pair of low-complexity near-maximum likelihood (ML) multiuser detection algorithms. Explicitly, we conceive a progressive residual check-based greedy detector (PRCGD) and an iterative reduced-space check-based detector (IRCD). Then, we derive both the unconditional single-user pairwise error probability (SU-UPEP) and a tight bit error ratio (BER) union-bound for our single-user STSK-OTFS-MA system employing the ML detector. Furthermore, the discrete-input continuous-output memoryless channel (DCMC) capacity of the proposed system is derived. The optimal dispersion matrices (DMs) are designed based on the maximum attainable diversity and coding gain metrics. Finally, it is demonstrated that our STSK-OTFS-MA system achieves both a lower BER and a higher DCMC capacity than its conventional spatial modulation (SM) {and its orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) counterparts. In orthogonal time sequency multiplexing (OTSM) modulation, the information symbols are conveyed in the delay-sequency domain upon exploiting the inverse Walsh Hadamard transform (IWHT). It has been shown that OTSM is capable of attaining a bit error ratio (BER) similar to that of orthogonal time-frequency space (OTFS) modulation at a lower complexity, since the saving of multiplication operations in the IWHT. Hence we provide its BER performance analysis and characterize its detection complexity. We commence by deriving its generalized input-output relationship and its unconditional pairwise error probability (UPEP). Then, its BER upper bound is derived in closed form under both ideal and imperfect channel estimation conditions, which is shown to be tight at moderate to high signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). Moreover, a novel approximate message passing (AMP) aided OTSM detection framework is proposed. Specifically, to circumvent the high residual BER of the conventional AMP detector, we proposed a vector AMP-based expectation-maximization (VAMP-EM) detector for performing joint data detection and noise variance estimation. The variance auto-tuning algorithm based on the EM algorithm is designed for the VAMP-EM detector to further improve the convergence performance. The simulation results illustrate that the VAMP-EM detector is capable of striking an attractive BER vs. complexity trade-off than the state-of-the-art schemes as well as providing a better convergence. Finally, we propose AMP and VAMP-EM turbo receivers for low-density parity-check (LDPC)-coded OTSM systems. A spatial modulation-aided orthogonal time frequency space (SM-OTFS) scheme is proposed for high-Doppler scenarios, which relies on a low-complexity distance-based detection algorithm. We first derive the delay-Doppler (DD) domain input-output relationship of our SM-OTFS system by exploiting an SM mapper, followed by characterizing the doubly-selective channels considered. Then we propose a distance-based ordering subspace check detector (DOSCD) exploiting the \emph{a priori} information of the transmit symbol vector. Moreover, we derive the discrete-input continuous-output memoryless channel (DCMC) capacity of the system. Finally, our simulation results demonstrate that the proposed SM-OTFS system outperforms the conventional single-input-multiple-output (SIMO)-OTFS system, and that the DOSCD conceived is capable of striking an attractive bit error ratio (BER) vs. complexity trade-off.

To make indoor industrial cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output (CF-mMIMO) networks free from wired fronthaul, this paper studies a multicarrier-division duplex (MDD)-enabled two-tier terahertz (THz) fronthaul scheme. More specifically, two layers of fronthaul links rely on the mutually orthogonal subcarreir sets in the same THz band, while access links are implemented over sub-6G band. The proposed scheme leads to a complicated mixed-integer nonconvex optimization problem incorporating access point (AP) clustering, device selection, the assignment of subcarrier sets between two fronthaul links and the resource allocation at both the central processing unit (CPU) and APs. In order to address the formulated problem, we first resort to the low-complexity but efficient heuristic methods thereby relaxing the binary variables. Then, the overall end-to-end rate is obtained by iteratively optimizing the assignment of subcarrier sets and the number of AP clusters. Furthermore, an advanced MDD frame structure consisting of three parallel data streams is tailored for the proposed scheme. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed dynamic AP clustering approach in dealing with the varying sizes of networks. Moreover, benefiting from the well-designed frame structure, MDD is capable of outperforming TDD in the two-tier fronthaul networks. Additionally, the effect of the THz bandwidth on system performance is analyzed, and it is shown that with sufficient frequency resources, our proposed two-tier fully-wireless fronthaul scheme can achieve a comparable performance to the fiber-optic based systems. Finally, the superiority of the proposed MDD-enabled fronthaul scheme is verified in a practical scenario with realistic ray-tracing simulations.

Low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites have been prosperously deployed for various Earth observation missions due to its capability of collecting a large amount of image or sensor data. However, traditionally, the data training process is performed in the terrestrial cloud server, which leads to a high transmission overhead. With the recent development of LEO, it is more imperative to provide ultra-dense LEO constellation with enhanced on-board computation capability. Benefited from it, we have proposed a collaborative federated learning for low Earth orbit (FELLO). We allocate the entire process on LEOs with low payload inter-satellite transmissions, whilst the low-delay terrestrial gateway server (GS) only takes care for initial signal controlling. The GS initially selects an LEO server, whereas its LEO clients are all determined by clustering mechanism and communication capability through the optical inter-satellite links (ISLs). The re-clustering of changing LEO server will be executed once with low communication quality of FELLO. In the simulations, we have numerically analyzed the proposed FELLO under practical Walker-based LEO constellation configurations along with MNIST training dataset for classification mission. The proposed FELLO outperforms the conventional centralized and distributed architectures with higher classification accuracy as well as comparably lower latency of joint communication and computing.

Low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation is capable of providing global coverage area with high-rate services in the next sixth-generation (6G) non-terrestrial network (NTN). Due to limited onboard resources of operating power, beams, and channels, resilient and efficient resource management has become compellingly imperative under complex interference cases. However, different from conventional terrestrial base stations, LEO is deployed at considerable height and under high mobility, inducing substantially long delay and interference during transmission. As a result, acquiring the accurate channel state information between LEOs and ground users is challenging. Therefore, we construct a framework with a two-way transmission under unknown channel information and no data collected at long-delay ground gateway. In this paper, we propose hierarchical multi-agent multi-armed bandit resource allocation for LEO constellation (mmRAL) by appropriately assigning available radio resources. LEOs are considered as collaborative multiple macro-agents attempting unknown trials of various actions of micro-agents of respective resources, asymptotically achieving suitable allocation with only throughput information. In simulations, we evaluate mmRAL in various cases of LEO deployment, serving numbers of users and LEOs, hardware cost and outage probability. Benefited by efficient and resilient allocation, the proposed mmRAL system is capable of operating in homogeneous or heterogeneous orbital planes or constellations, achieving the highest throughput performance compared to the existing benchmarks in open literature.

In this paper, we consider a prospective receiving hybrid beamforming structure consisting of several radio frequency (RF) chains and abundant antenna elements in multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems. Due to conventional costly full connections, we design an enhanced partially connected beamformer employing a low-density parity-check (LDPC)-based structure. As a benefit of the LDPC-based structure, information can be exchanged among clustered RF/antenna groups, which results in a low computational complexity order. Advanced message passing (MP) capable of inferring and transferring information among different paths is designed to support the LDPC-based hybrid beamformer. We propose a message-passing enhanced antenna and RF chain selection (MARS) scheme for minimizing the operational power of antennas and RF chains of the receiver as well as hybrid beamforming. Furthermore, sequential and parallel MP schemes for MARS are designed, namely, MARS-S and MARS-P, respectively, to address the convergence speed issue. A heuristic genetic algorithm is designed for receiving hybrid beamforming, comprising gene generation initialization, elite selection, crossover, and mutation. Simulations validate the convergence of both the MARS-P and the MARS-S algorithms. Due to the asynchronous information transfer of MARS-P, it requires higher power than MARS-S, which strikes a compelling balance among power consumption, convergence, and computational complexity. A multicarrier-division duplex (MDD)-based cell-free (CF) scheme, namely MDD-CF, is proposed, which enables downlink (DL) data and uplink (UL) data or pilots to be concurrently transmitted on mutually orthogonal subcarriers in distributed CF massive MIMO (mMIMO) systems. To demonstrate the advantages of MDD-CF, we firstly study the spectral-efficiency (SE) performance in terms of one coherence interval (CT) associated with access point (AP)-selection, power- and subcarrier-allocation. Since the formulated SE optimization is a mixed-integer non-convex problem that is NP-hard to solve, we leverage the inherent association between involved variables to transform it into a continuous-integer convex-concave problem. Then, a quadratic transform (QT)-assisted iterative algorithm is proposed to achieve SE maximization. Next, we extend our study to the case of one radio frame consisting of several CT intervals. In this regard, a novel two-phase CT interval (TPCT) scheme is designed to not only improve the SE in radio frame but also provide consistent data transmissions over fast time-varying channels. Correspondingly, to facilitate the optimization, we propose a two-step iterative algorithm by building the connections between two phases in TPCT through an iteration factor. Simulation results show that, MDD-CF can significantly outperform in-band full duplex (IBFD)-CF due to the efficient interference management. Furthermore, compared with time-division duplex (TDD)-CF, MDD-CF is more robust to high-mobility scenarios and achieves better SE performance.

In-band full duplex cell-free (CF) systems suffer from severe self-interference and cross-link interference, especially when CF systems are operated in distributed way. To this end, we propose the multicarrier-division duplex as an enabler for achieving full-duplex operation in the distributed CF massive MIMO systems, where downlink and uplink transmissions occur simultaneously in the same frequency band but on the mutually orthogonal subcarriers. To maximize the spectral-efficiency (SE), we introduce a heterogeneous graph neural network (HGNN) specific for CF systems, referred to as CF-HGNN, to optimize the power-allocation (PA). We design the adaptive node embedding layer for CF-HGNN to be scalable to the various numbers of access points (APs), mobile stations (MSs) and subcarriers. The attention mechanism of CF-HGNN enables individual AP/MS nodes to aggregate information from the interfering and communication paths with different priorities. For comparison, we propose a quadratic transform and successive convex approximation (QT-SCA) algorithm to solve the PA problem in classic way. Numerical results show that CF-HGNN is capable of achieving 99\% of the SE achievable by QT-SCA but using only $10^{-4}$ times of its operation time. CF-HGNN significantly outperforms the traditional greedy unfair method in terms of SE performance. Furthermore, CF-HGNN exhibits good scalability to the CF networks with various numbers of nodes and subcarriers, and also to the large-scale CF networks when assisted by user clustering.

The separation of training and data transmission as well as the frequent uplink/downlink (UL/DL) switching make time-division duplex (TDD)-based massive multiple-input multiple-output (mMIMO) systems less competent in fast time-varying scenarios due to the resulted severe channel aging. To this end, a multicarrier-division duplex (MDD) mMIMO scheme associated with two types of well-designed frame structures are introduced for combating channel aging when communicating over fast time-varying channels. To compare with TDD, the corresponding frame structures related to 3GPP standards and their variant forms are presented. The MDD-specific general Wiener predictor and decision-directed Wiener predictor are introduced to predict the channel state information, respectively, in the time domain based on UL pilots and in the frequency domain based on the detected UL data, considering the impact of residual self-interference (SI). Moreover, by applying the zero-forcing precoding and maximum ratio combining, the closed-form approximations for the lower bounded rate achieved by TDD and MDD systems over time-varying channels are derived. Our main conclusion from this study is that the MDD, endowed with the capability of full-duplex but less demand on SI cancellation than in-band full-duplex (IBFD), outperforms both the conventional TDD and IBFD in combating channel aging.

Indoor positioning is one of the core technologies of Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI), and is expected to play a significant role in the upcoming era of AI. However, affected by the complexity of indoor environments, it is still highly challenging to achieve continuous and reliable indoor positioning. Currently, 5G cellular networks are being deployed worldwide, the new technologies of which have brought the approaches for improving the performance of wireless indoor positioning. In this paper, we investigate the indoor positioning under the 5G new radio (NR), which has been standardized and being commercially operated in massive markets. Specifically, a solution is proposed and a software defined receiver (SDR) is developed for indoor positioning. With our SDR indoor positioning system, the 5G NR signals are firstly sampled by universal software radio peripheral (USRP), and then, coarse synchronization is achieved via detecting the start of the synchronization signal block (SSB). Then, with the assistance of the pilots transmitted on the physical broadcasting channel (PBCH), multipath acquisition and delay tracking are sequentially carried out to estimate the time of arrival (ToA) of received signals. Furthermore, to improve the ToA ranging accuracy, the carrier phase of the first arrived path is estimated. Finally, to quantify the accuracy of our ToA estimation method, indoor field tests are carried out in an office environment, where a 5G NR base station (known as gNB) is installed for commercial use. Our test results show that, in the static test scenarios, the ToA accuracy measured by the 1-{\sigma} error interval is about 0.5 m, while in the pedestrian mobile environment, the probability of range accuracy within 0.8 m is 95%., Comment: 13 pages

This paper proposes a novel transmission policy for an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) assisted wireless powered sensor network (WPSN). An IRS is deployed to enhance the performance of wireless energy transfer (WET) and wireless information transfer (WIT) by intelligently adjusting phase shifts of each reflecting elements. To achieve its self-sustainability, the IRS needs to collect energy from energy station to support its control circuit operation. Our proposed policy for the considered WPSN is called IRS assisted harvest-then-transmit time switching, which is able to schedule the transmission time slots by switching between energy collection and energy reflection modes. We study the achievable sum throughput of the proposed transmission policy and investigate a joint design of the transmission time slots, the power allocation, as well as the discrete phase shifts of the WET and WIT. This formulates the problem as a mixed-integer non-linear program, which is NP-hard and non-convex. We first relax it to one with continuous phase shifts, and then propose a two-step approach and decompose the original problem into two sub-problems. We solve the first sub-problem with respect to the phase shifts of the WIT in terms of closed-form expression. For the second sub-problem, we consider a special case without the circuit power of each sensor node, the Lagrange dual method and the KKT conditions are applied to derive the optimal closed-form transmission time slots, power allocation, and phase shift of the WET. Then we generalise the case with the circuit power of each sensor node, which can be solved via employing a semi-definite programming relaxation. The optimal discrete phase shifts can be obtained by quantizing the continuous values. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed policy and validate the beneficial role of the IRS in comparison to the benchmark schemes., Comment: 16 pages, 13 figures

This paper is focused on code-domain non-orthogonal multiple access (CD-NOMA), which is an emerging paradigm to support massive connectivity for future machine-type wireless networks. We take a comparative approach to study two types of overloaded CD-NOMA, i.e., sparse code multiple access (SCMA) and dense code multiple access (DCMA), which are distinctive from each other in terms of their codebooks having sparsity or not. By analysing their individual diversity orders (DO) in Rayleigh fading channels, it is found that DCMA can be designed to enjoy full DO which is equal to the maximum number of resource nodes in the system. This is in contrast to SCMA whose error rate suffers from limited DO equal to the codebook sparsity (i.e., the effective number of resource nodes occupied by each user). We conduct theoretical analysis for the codebook design criteria and propose to use generalized sphere decoder for DCMA detection. We numerically evaluate two types of multiple access schemes under "4x6" (i.e., six users communicate over four subcarriers) and "5x10" NOMA settings and reveal that DCMA gives rise to significantly improved error rate performance in Rayleigh fading channels, whilst having decoding complexity comparable to that of SCMA.

In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient spatial modulation based molecular communication (SM-MC) scheme, in which a transmitted symbol is composed of two parts, i.e., a space derived symbol and a concentration derived symbol. The space symbol is transmitted by embedding the information into the index of a single activated transmitter nanomachine. The concentration symbol is drawn according to the conventional concentration shift keying (CSK) constellation. Befitting from a single active transmitter during each symbol transmission period, SM-MC can avoid the inter-link interference problem existing in the current multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) MC schemes, which hence enables low-complexity symbol detection and performance improvement. Specifically, in our low-complexity scheme, the space symbol is first detected by energy comparison, and then the concentration symbol is detected by the equal gain combining assisted CSK demodulation. In this paper, we analyze the symbol error rate (SER) of the SM-MC and its special case, namely the space shift keying based MC (SSK-MC), where only space symbol is transmitted and no CSK modulation is invoked. Finally, the analytical results are validated by computer simulations, and our studies demonstrate that both the SM-MC and SSK-MC are capable of achieving better SER performance than the conventional MIMO-MC and single-input single-output MC (SISO-MC) when the same symbol rate is assumed.

We now advocate a novel physical layer security solution that is unique to our previously proposed GPSM scheme with the aid of the proposed antenna scrambling. The novelty and contribution of our paper lies in three aspects: 1/ principle: we introduce a `security key' generated at Alice that is unknown to both Bob and Eve, where the design goal is that the publicly unknown security key only imposes barrier for Eve. 2/ approach: we achieve it by conveying useful information only through the activation of RA indices, which is in turn concealed by the unknown security key in terms of the randomly scrambled symbols used in place of the conventional modulated symbols in GPSM scheme. 3/ design: we consider both Circular Antenna Scrambling (CAS) and Gaussian Antenna Scrambling (GAS) in detail and the resultant security capacity of both designs are quantified and compared.

Conventional wireless information transfer by modulating the amplitude, phase or frequency leads to an inevitable Rate-Energy (RE) trade-off in the presence of simultaneous Wireless Power Transfer (WPT). In echoing Varshney's seminal concept of jointly transmitting both information and energy, we propose the so-called Generalised Precoded Spatial Modulation (GPSM) aided Integrated Wireless Information and Power Transfer (IWIPT) concept employing a power-split receiver. The principle of GPSM is that a particular subset of Receive Antennas (RA) is activated and the activation pattern itself conveys useful information. Hence, the novelty of our GPSM aided IWIPT concept is that RA pattern-based information transfer is used in addition to the conventional waveform-based information carried by the classic M-ary modulation. Following the Radio Frequency (RF) to Direct Current (DC) power conversion invoked for WPT at the power-split receiver, the non-coherent detector simply compares the remaining received power accumulated by each legitimate RA pattern for the sake of identifying the most likely RA. This operation is then followed by down-conversion and conventional Base Band (BB) M-ary detection. Both our analysis and simulations show that the RA pattern based information transfer represented in the Spatial Domain (SD) exhibits a beneficial immunity to any potential power conversion induced performance degradation and hence improves the overall RE trade-off when additionally the waveform-based information transfer is also taken into account. Moreover, we investigate the impact of realistic imperfect Channel State Information at the Transmitter (CSIT) as well as that of the antenna correlations encountered. Finally, the system's asymptotic performance is characterised in the context of large-scale Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems.
