14. Sinomenine regulates circTRPM7‐related pathway to inhibit gastric cancer cell growth and metastasis.

Abstract

Sinomenine has been found to have antitumor effects in a variety of cancers, including gastric cancer. Circular RNA (circRNA) is an important regulator of gastric cancer progression. However, it is not known whether Sinomenine mediates gastric cancer processes by regulating circRNA‐related pathways. Quantitative real‐time PCR was used to measure the expression of circTRPM7, microRNA‐145‐5p (miR‐145‐5p), and pre‐B‐cell leukemia homeobox 3 (PBX3). MTT assay, colony formation assay, EdU assay, transwell assay, wound‐healing assay, and flow cytometry were used to detect cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis. The expression of related proteins was detected by Western blot. Mechanically, the interaction of miR‐145‐5p with circTRPM7/PBX3 was validated by dual‐luciferase reporter assay and RIP assay. Our study showed that circTRPM7 expression was reduced in Sinomenine‐treated gastric cancer cells. Moreover, overexpression of circTRPM7 upregulated the growth and metastasis of Sinomenine‐treated gastric cancer cells. CircTRPM7 could sponge miR‐145‐5p, and miR‐145‐5p reversed the effect of circTRPM7 on the growth and metastasis of Sinomenine‐treated gastric cancer cells. PBX3 was the target of miR‐145‐5p, and knockdown of PBX3 could restore the in‐miR‐145‐5p promotion effect on the malignant behavior of Sinomenine‐treated gastric cancer cells. To sum up, our data indicated that Sinomenine played an antitumor role in gastric cancer cells via circTRPM7/miR‐145‐5p/PBX3 axis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Ho Chi Minh is one of influential personages in the history of Vietnam. His thoughts became the crucial guideline in the anti-colonial, anti-imperialist and independence movements of Vietnam. So far, quite a few scholars have conducted in-depth analysis of Ho Chi Minh‟s thoughts from the perspectives of politics, sociology and philosophy, but few scholars have studied Ho‟s thoughts from the perspective of multiculturalism. Given that multiculturalism is a theory that firstly put forward by western scholars in the western world, whether the theory is applicable to traditional and communitarian oriental world has become a hot topic in academic circles. From the perspective of morality, the elements of liberty, equality and justice of multiculturalism have the function of anti-colonialism and anti-imperialism in Southeast Asian countries including Vietnam. In the colonial times, French deliberately isolated Vietnamese ethnic groups through ideological control and geographical isolation, but under the guideline of Ho Chi Minh‟s thought, the Vietnamese broken the barrier of colonial and successfully achieve national unity and ethnic unity. This paper intends to prove that multiculturalism has the function of anti-colonialism and anti-imperialism by researching the Ho Chi Minh‟s multicultural thoughts, which is the best practice of western multiculturalism in southeast Asia.

Abstract

The paper examines “red packets” – a form of informal payment – in the Chinese health-care system from the perspectives of power and ‘inxit’ theories. Drawing on qualitative data collected from focus groups, interviews and documentary sources, the research investigates, from doctors’ perspective, the giving, taking, declining and disciplining of and solutions for red packets. Findings testify to four hypotheses developed from the theoretical perspectives, leading to the conclusion that red packets emerged from and can exert an influence on the power relationships between doctors, the Party-state and patients, and are a response to distrust and quality shortage in the health-care system.

Abstract

Wang Wei (701—761), often referred to as the “Buddha of Poetry,” has long been famous for his nature poems, which many modern and pre-modern critics believe were intended to imply some Chan Buddhist significance. To support this point of view, such critics draw evidence from historical sources and Wang Wei’s own works to show that he was deeply influenced by Chan Buddhism and that he intentionally infused some Chan tenets into his pure nature poems but without making explicit reference to Buddhism.

44. Mesenchymal Stem Cells Derived from Human Bone Marrow Support Hematopoiesis in Vitro.

Abstract

Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotential progenitors of connective tissues and bone marrow stroma as well, which implies the modulatory function of MSCs in hematopoiesis. To clarify the contributions of MSCs to hematopoiesis, the methods for isolation and expansion of MSCs were established and long-term bone marrow cultures were performed using irradiated MSCs as the feeder layer. The results here showed that CD34(+) cells from cord blood formed hematopoietic foci adherent to the monolayer. Furthermore, colony-forming cells remained in the coculture of 5 weeks, indicating the maintenance of long-term culture-initiating cells (LTC-IC). Flow cytometry analysis showed that about 1% of the hematopoietic cells in the culture were positive for CD34 and around 15% were CD41a-positive. It is clear that MSCs maintain LTC-IC in vitro and promote differentiation of hematopoietic progenitors especially into megakaryocytic lineage. The preliminary results here demonstrate that MSCs residing in the bone marrow might be a crucial cellular component in the hematopoietic microenvironment.
