7. Citric Acid Inhibits Cd Absorption and Transportation by Improving the Antagonism of Essential Elements in Rice Organs.

Abstract

Excessive cadmium (Cd) in rice is a global environmental problem. Therefore, reducing Cd content in rice is of great significance for ensuring food security and human health. A field experiment was conducted to study the effects of foliar application of citric acid (CA) on Cd absorption and transportation in rice under high Cd-contaminated soils (2.04 mg·kg−1). This study revealed that there was a negative correlation between Cd content in vegetative organs and CA content, and that foliar spraying of CA (1 mM and 5 mM) significantly increased CA content and reduced Cd content in vegetative organs. The Cd reduction effect of 5 mM CA was better than that of 1 mM, and 5 mM CA reduced Cd content in grains and spikes by 52% and 37%, respectively. CA significantly increased Mn content in vegetative organs and increased Ca/Mn ratios in spikes, flag leaves, and roots. CA significantly reduced soluble Cd content in vegetative organs and promoted the transformation of Cd into insoluble Cd, thus inhibiting the transport of Cd from vegetative organs to grains. The foliar field application of 1 mM and 5 mM CA could inhibit Cd absorption and transportation by reducing Cd bioactivity and increasing the antagonistic of essential elements in rice vegetative organs. 13. Target Identification Using Dominant Scattering Mechanism Analysis of Full Polarimetric Ground Penetrating Radar for Cavity Detection

Abstract

Cavity detection is vital to homeland security, civil engineering, and geological surveys. However, the limited target classification ability of traditional ground penetrating radar (GPR) may lead to its inability to identify cavities in complex environments with multiple anomalies, and the resolution of traditional GPR may not be enough to distinguish the internal structure of cavities. To address this issue, we have developed the dominant scattering mechanism analysis (DSMA) technique of full polarimetric GPR (FP-GPR). This technique calculates the scattering power of three physical models and determines the dominant scattering mechanism of subsurface targets. Cavity identification coefficients (CIC) are then utilized to enhance cavity detection and evaluation accuracy. Numerical simulation experiments have validated the workflow of this cutting-edge method. Scaled model experiments have depicted the polarization characteristics of the scattering field of typical tunnel structures within a laboratory setting. Field experiments have demonstrated that the novel technique can accurately identify and assess tunnels in complex environments with multiple anomalies, providing a foundation for determining regional function.

14. Super-Resolution Detection of Millimeter-Scale Fractures With Fluid Flow Using Time-Lapse Full-Polarimetric GPR and Anisotropy Analysis

Abstract

Fractures with fluid flow can lead to the damage of rock carving relics. During the detection of fractures, millimeter-scale fractures are usually difficult to determine due to their small apertures. Considering the rapid variation of water content in the fracture seepage zone can lead to anisotropy, this article proposes a new methodology to detect these millimeter-scale fractures with fluid flow using a time-lapse full-polarimetric ground penetrating radar (FP-GPR) scheme and an anisotropy analysis method. The time-lapse FP-GPR detection can monitor the water flow in the fracture and the infiltration in the rock, and the Freeman decomposition, H-Alpha decomposition, and a polarimetric phase (PP) feature are adopted to quantify and analyze the anisotropic effects over time. In the numerical test, we adopt hydrological modeling to build realistic dielectric models for time-lapse FP-GPR simulations. The results indicate that the variations of water contents and several polarimetric features, i.e., the surface-like scattering power, the double-bounce scattering power, and the averaged scattering angle, are consistent and are essentially related to the anisotropy of the seepage zone. Finally, we introduce the field tests performed at the experimental station of the Dazu Rock Carvings in Chongqing, China, which contain two cases I and II. Case I is an experiment on a surface fracture of a cliff, whereas case II is a detection test of a buried fracture. The results verify the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

Abstract

BackgroundCOVID-19 has impacted adolescents' interpersonal relationships, life attitudes, and mental health during the past 3 years. However, previous studies predominantly focused on negative problems, while few studies assessed the situation of teenagers from the perspective of positive psychology. Therefore, this study explores the creativity level of Chinese college students during the COVID-19 pandemic, the relationship between sleep quality and creativity, and the mediating role of executive function.MethodA cross-sectional study was conducted across six colleges in Heilongjiang in China, with a sample of 4,258 college students recruited via stratified cluster sampling. Data were collected through an online survey. A mediation model was constructed, and SPSS PROCESS macro was used to analyze the data.ResultsThe creativity score of Chinese college students during the COVID-19 pandemic was 106.48 ± 13.61. Correlation analysis demonstrated that sleep quality correlated negatively with creativity (r = −0.08, P < 0.01) but positively with executive function (r=0.45, P < 0.01), whilst executive function correlated negatively with creativity (r = −0.10, P < 0.01). Moreover, the mediation model revealed that executive function partially mediated the relationship between sleep quality and creativity in college students (indirect effect = −0.017, SE = 0.004, 95% CI = [−0.025, −0.008]). Executive function accounted for 48.6% of the variance in college students' creativity.ConclusionSchool administrators should implement measures such as sleep education to enhance students' sleep quality. Concurrently, curriculum and assessment implementation should enhance executive function. Such measures can contribute to improved student creativity, thus helping students overcome the negative emotional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

With the frequent occurrence of campus violence, scholars have devoted increasing attention to college students’ aggression. This study aims to estimate the prevalence of aggression in Chinese university students and identify factors that could influence their aggression. We can thus find methods to reduce the incidence of college students’ aggression in the future. A multi-stage stratified sampling procedure was used to select university students (N = 4565) aged 16–25 years in Harbin. The Aggression Questionnaire, the Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Checklist and the Social Support Revalued Scale were used to collect data. Females reported lower levels of aggression than males (p < .001). A multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to determine the influence of factors of aggression, and the model was highly significant (R2 = .233, AdR2 = .230,p < .01). The results show that the aggression is affected by gender, family-level and school-level variables. Aggression scores are significantly correlated with not only family-level or school-level variables independently, but their combination as well. We find that the risk factors for aggression include a dissatisfying profession, higher levels of study pressure, poor parental relationships, poor interpersonal relationships, the presence of siblings, punishment, health maladjustment, less subjective support, and lower levels of utilization of social support.
