Background Both portal vein thrombosis (PVT) and gastrointestinal bleeding are complications in patients with liver cirrhosis, and PVT can aggravate the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, but the conflicting treatment of both is another challenge in clinical work. Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics and risk factors of concomitant gastrointestinal bleeding in patients with PVT in liver cirrhosis. Methods A total of 279 patients diagnosed with PVT in liver cirrhosis at the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University from 2016-10-01 to 2021-09-30 were retrospectively collected and divided into the bleeding group (n=127) and non-bleeding group (n=152) according to the presence of gastrointestinal bleeding symptoms of hematemesis and melena in this admission. The differences in general information, complications, laboratory and imaging tests, surgical history and other relevant information between the two groups were compared. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the influencing factors of the complications of gastrointestinal bleeding in cirrhotic patients with PVT. Results A total of 5 807 patients were retrospectively investigated in the study, including 350 patients combined with PVT with a incidence of 6.0%. PVT was most common in 279 cirrhotic patients with PVT complicated by liver function Child B grade[146 (52.3%) ]. There were significant differences in etiology, vascular involvement, jaundice, internal diameter of main portal vein, gastroesophageal varices, white blood cell (WBC), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (HCT), total bilirubin (TBiL), fibrinogen (FIB), and history of laparotomy between the bleeding group and non-bleeding group (P

C4 plants frequently experience high light and high temperature conditions in the field, which reduce growth and yield. However, the mechanisms underlying these stress responses in C4 plants have been under-explored, especially the coordination between mesophyll (M) and bundle sheath (BS) cells. We investigated how the C4 model plant Setaria viridis responded to a four-hour high light or high temperature treatment at photosynthetic, transcriptomic, and ultrastructural levels. Although we observed a comparable reduction of photosynthetic efficiency in high light or high temperature treated leaves, detailed analysis of multi-level responses revealed important differences in key pathways and M/BS specificity responding to high light and high temperature. We provide a systematic analysis of high light and high temperature responses in S. viridis, reveal different acclimation strategies to these two stresses in C4 plants, discover unique light/temperature responses in C4 plants in comparison to C3 plants, and identify potential targets to improve abiotic stress tolerance in C4 crops.

Osmanthus fragrans (O. fragrans) has been cultivated in China for over 2,500 years as a traditional fragrant plant. Recently, O. fragrans has drawn increasing attention due to its unique aroma and potential health benefits. In this review, the aroma and functional components of O. fragrans are summarized, and their biosynthetic mechanism is discussed. The beneficial functions and related molecular mechanism of O. fragrans extract are then highlighted. Finally, potential applications of O. fragrans are summarized, and future perspectives are proposed and discussed. According to the current research, O. fragrans extracts and components have great potential to be developed into value-added functional ingredients with preventive effects on certain chronic diseases. However, it is crucial to develop efficient, large-scale, and commercially viable extraction methods to obtain the bioactive components from O. fragrans. According to the White Paper on China’s Pet Industry 2021, the population of raising cats and dogs in China has reached 68.44 million. However, many acquire these pets without giving it much thought, only to later realize that caring for a pet requires significant effort, time, money, and patience. As a result, pet abandonment has become a serious issue. The World Health Organization predicts that around the world, there are about 200 million stray dogs, with China accounting for 40 million or one-fifth of the total. Rapid modernization and urbanization have turned Shanghai into a hub of homeless pets. To address this issue, this paper focuses on changing the attitudes of Shanghai high school students toward animal protection. The study focuses on this particular group since their attitudes represent the future generation, yet there is a lack of research on this topic. The paper aims to fill this gap by exploring the most effective way to raise awareness among Shanghai high school students about the issue of homeless animal protection. To this end, the researcher has devised three types of persuasion methods in a lab setting to compare and contrast the results among Shanghai high school students.
