Search

Searching of the critical endpoint of the phase transition of Quantum Chromodynamics~(QCD) matter in experiments is of great interest. The temperature in the fireball of a collider is location dependent, however, most theoretical studies address the scenario of uniform temperature. In this work, the effect of temperature gradients is investigated using lattice QCD approach. We find that the temperature gradient catalyzes chiral symmetry breaking, meanwhile the temperature gradient increases the Polyakov loop in the confined phase but suppresses the Polyakov loop in the deconfined phase. Furthermore, the temperature gradient decreases the pseudo-critical temperature of chiral transition but increases the pseudo-critical temperature of the confine/deconfine transition., Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures

One of the difficulties one has to face in the future phenomenological studies of the new physics~(NP), is the need to deal with increasing amounts of data. It is therefore increasingly important to improve the efficiency in the phenomenological study of the NP. Whether it is the use of the Standard Model effective field theory~(SMEFT), the use of machine learning~(ML) algorithms, or the use of quantum computing, all are means of improving the efficiency. In this paper, we use a ML algorithm, the auto-encoder~(AE), to study the dimension-8 operators in the SMEFT which contribute to the gluon quartic gauge couplings~(gQGCs) at muon colliders. The AE is one of the ML algorithms that has the potential to be accelerated by the quantum computing. It is found that the AE-based anomaly detection algorithm can be used as event selection strategy to study the gQGCs at the muon colliders, and is effective compared with traditional event selection strategies., Comment: update journal reference

The search of the new physics~(NP) beyond the Standard Model is one of the most important topics in current high energy physics. With the increasing luminosities at the colliders, the search for NP signals requires the analysis of more and more data, and the efficiency in data processing becomes particularly important. As a machine learning algorithm, support vector machine~(SVM) is expected to to be useful in the search of NP. Meanwhile, the quantum computing has the potential to offer huge advantages when dealing with large amounts of data, which suggests that quantum SVM~(QSVM) is a potential tool in future phenomenological studies of the NP. How to use SVM and QSVM to optimize event selection strategies to search for NP signals are studied in this paper. The behavior of quark matter with both external electric field and chiral chemical potential is theoretically and experimentally interesting to consider. In this paper, the case of simultaneous presence of imaginary electric field and chiral chemical potential is investigated using the lattice QCD approach with $N_f=1+1$ dynamical staggered fermions. We find that overall both the imaginary electric field and the chiral chemical potential can exacerbate chiral symmetry breaking, which is consistent with theoretical predictions. However we also find a non-monotonic behavior of chiral condensation at specific electric field strengths and chiral chemical potentials. We investigate the finite-temperature quantum chromodynamics (QCD) on a rotating lattice with $N_f=2+1$ staggered fermions and the projective plane boundary condition. We observe a negative rotational rigidity (defined in the main text) and a negative quark spin susceptibility associated with the chiral vortical effect. In contrast to most of the effective model predictions, we find that the chiral condensate decreases and the Polyakov loop increases with imaginary rotation, implying a rotational catalysis of chiral symmetry breaking and confinement by real rotation. We determine the phase boundaries for both chiral and confinement-deconfinement phase transitions on the $\Omega_I$-$T$ plane, where $\Omega_I$ is the imaginary angular velocity., Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures

The potential of the muon colliders open up new possibilities for the exploration of new physics beyond the Standard Model. It is worthwhile to investigate whether muon colliders are suitable for studying gluonic quartic gauge couplings~(gQGCs), which can be contributed by dimension-8 operators in the framework of the Standard Model effective field theory, and are intensively studied recently. In this paper, we study the sensitivity of the process $\mu^+\mu^-\to j j \nu\bar{\nu}$ to gQGCs. Exact conditions for antiUnruh effect in (1+1)-dimensional spacetime are obtained. For detectors with Gaussian switching functions, the analytic results are similar to previous ones, indicating that antiUnruh effect occurs when the energy gap matches the characteristic time scale. However, this conclusion does not hold for detectors with square wave switching functions, in which case the condition turns out to depend on both the energy gap and the characteristic time scale in some nontrivial way. We present a python-based program for phenomenological investigations in particle physics using machine learning algorithms, called \verb"MLAnalysis". The program is able to convert LHE and LHCO files generated by \verb"MadGraph5_aMC@NLO" into data sets for machine learning algorithms, which can analyze the information of the events. At present, it contains three machine learning (ML) algorithms: isolation forest (IF) algorithm, nested isolation forest (NIF) algorithm, kmeans anomaly detection (KMAD), and some basic functionality to analyze the kinematic features of a data set. Searching for new physics~(NP) is one of the areas of high-energy physics that requires the most processing of large amounts of data. At the same time, quantum computing has huge potential advantages when dealing with large amounts of data. The principal component analysis~(PCA) algorithm may be one of the bridges connecting these two aspects. On the one hand, it can be used for anomaly detection, and on the other hand, there are corresponding quantum algorithms for PCA. In this paper, we investigate how to use PCA to search for NP. Taking the example of anomalous quartic gauge couplings in the tri-photon process at muon colliders, we find that PCA can be used to search for NP. The search for new physics beyond the Standard Model is one of the central problems of current high energy physics interest. As the luminosities of current and near-future colliders continue to increase, the search for new physics has increased the requirements for processing large amounts of data. Meanwhile, quantum computing which is rapidly evolving, has great potential to become a powerful tool to help search for new physics signals. Since the k-means algorithm is known to be able to be accelerated with the help of quantum computing, we investigate and propose an event selection strategy based on k-means algorithm to search for new physics signals. Taking the case of tri-photon processes at the muon colliders as an example, the event selection strategy is shown to be effective in helping to search for the signals of dimension-8 operators contributing to anomalous quartic gauge couplings. The search for magnetic monopoles has been a longstanding concern of the physics community for nearly a century. However, up to now, the existence of elementary magnetic monopoles remains an open question. The electroweak 't Hooft-Polyakov monopoles have been predicted with mass at the order of 10 TeV. This mass scale is unreachable at current colliders. Recently, the muon colliders have gained much attention in the community due to technological developments. The advantages of the muon beam encourage us to raise the high-energy option and consider the high-energy muon collider as a unique opportunity to search for magnetic monopoles. The effect of an external electric field on the quark matter is an important question due to the presence of strong electric fields in heavy ion collisions. In the lattice QCD approach, the case of a real electric field suffers from the `sign problem', and a classical electric field is often used similar as the case of chemical potential. Interestingly, in axial gauge a uniform classical electric field actually can correspond to an inhomogeneous imaginary chemical potential that varies with coordinate. On the other hand, with imaginary chemical potential, Roberge-Weiss~(R-W) phase transition occurs. In this work, the case of a uniform classical electric field is studied by using lattice QCD approach, with the emphasis on the properties of the R-W phase. Novel phenomena show up at high temperatures. It is found that, the chiral condensation oscillates with $z$ at high temperatures, and so is the absolute value of the Polyakov loop. It is verified that the charge density also oscillates with $z$ at high temperatures. The Polyakov loop can be described by an ansatz $A_p+\sum _{q=u,d} C_q\exp\left(L_{\tau} Q_q iazeE_z\right)$, where $A_p$ is a complex number and $C_d>0,C_u\geq 0$ are real numbers that are fitted for different temperatures and electric field strengths. As a consequence, the behavior of the phase of Polyakov loop is different depending on whether the Polyakov loop encloses the origin, which implies a possible phase transition., Comment: 33 pages, 33 figures

The muon collider provides a unique opportunity to study the vector boson scattering processes and dimension-8 operators contributing to anomalous quartic gauge couplings~(aQGCs). Because of the cleaner final state, it is easier to decode subprocess and certain operator couplings at a muon collider. We attempt to identify the anomalous $WWWW$ coupling in the exclusive $WW\to WW$ scattering in this paper. Since one aQGC can be induced by multiple dimension-8 operators, the study of one coupling can help to confine different operators. Meanwhile, singling out the $WW\to WW$ process can help to study the unitarity bounds. The vector boson scattering process corresponding to the anomalous $WWWW$ coupling is $\mu^+\mu^-\to \nu\nu\bar{\nu}\bar{\nu}\ell^+\ell^-$, with four (anti-)neutrinos in the final state, which brings troubles in phenomenological studies. In this paper, the machine learning method is used to tackle this problem. We find that, using the artificial neural network can extract the $W^+W^-\to W^+W^-$ contribution, and is helpful to reconstruct the center of mass energy of the subprocess which is important in the study of the Standard Model effective field theory. The sensitivities and the expected constraints on the dimension-8 operators at the muon collider with $\sqrt{s}=30$ TeV are presented. The muon collider has recently received a great deal of attention because of its ability to achieve both high energy and high luminosity. It plays as a gauge boson collider because the vector boson scattering (VBS) becomes the dominant production topology for Standard Model processes starting from a few TeV of collision energy. In this paper, we propose that the process of $\mu^+\mu^-$ annihilation into tri-photon is also very sensitive to the search of anomalous quartic gauge couplings (aQGCs). We investigate the projected constraints on the transverse operators contributing to aQGCs through $\mu^+\mu^-\to Z^\ast/\gamma^\ast\to \gamma\gamma\gamma$ at muon colliders. Anomaly detection algorithms have been proved to be useful in the search of new physics beyond the Standard Model. However, a prerequisite for using an anomaly detection algorithm is that the signal to be sought is indeed anomalous. This does not always hold true, for example when interference between new physics and the Standard Model becomes important. In this case, the search of new physics is no longer an anomaly detection. To overcome this difficulty, we propose a nested anomaly detection algorithm, which appears to be useful in the study of neutral triple gauge couplings at the CEPC, the ILC and the FCC-ee. Our approach inherits the advantages of the anomaly detection algorithm been nested, while at the same time, it is no longer an anomaly detection algorithm. A series of new physics scenarios predict the existence of the extra charged gauge boson $W'$, which can induce charged-current (CC) non-standard neutrino interactions (NSIs). The theoretical constraints on the simplified $W'$ model and further on the CC NSI parameters $\widetilde{\epsilon}^{ qq'Y}_{\alpha\beta}$ from partial wave unitarity and $W'$ decays are considered. The sensitivity of the process $p p \rightarrow W'\rightarrow \ell\nu $ to the $W'$ model at the LHC and high-luminosity~(HL) LHC experiments is investigated by estimating the expected constraints on $\widetilde{\epsilon}^{qq'Y}_{\alpha\beta}$ ($\alpha = \beta = e $ or $\mu$) using a Monte-Carlo~(MC) simulation. We find that the interference effect plays an important role, and the LHC can strongly constrain $\widetilde{\epsilon}^{qq'L}_{\alpha\beta}$. Compared with those at the $13 \;{\rm TeV}$ LHC with $\mathcal{L}=139\;{\rm fb}^{-1}$, the expected constraints at the $14 \;{\rm TeV}$ LHC with $\mathcal{L}=3\;{\rm ab}^{-1}$ can be strengthened to approximately one order of magnitude., Comment: 30 pages, 17 figures, 3 tables

As a model independent approach to search for the signals of new physics~(NP) beyond the Standard Model~(SM), the SM effective field theory~(SMEFT) draws a lot of attention recently. The energy scale of a process is an important parameter in the study of an EFT such as the SMEFT. However, for the processes at a hadron collider with neutrinos in the final states, the energy scales are difficult to reconstruct. In this paper, we study the energy scale of anomalous $\gamma\gamma \to W^+W^-$ scattering in the vector boson scattering~(VBS) process $pp\to j j \ell^+\ell^-\nu\bar{\nu}$ at the large hadron collider~(LHC) using artificial neural networks~(ANNs). We find that the ANN is a powerful tool to reconstruct the energy scale of $\gamma\gamma \to W^+W^-$ scattering. The factors affecting the effects of ANNs are also studied. In addition, we make an attempt to interpret the ANN and arrive at an approximate formula which has only five fitting parameters and works much better than the approximation derived from kinematic analysis. With the help of ANN approach, the unitarity bound is applied as a cut on the energy scale of $\gamma\gamma \to W^+W^-$ scattering, which is found to has a significant suppressive effect on signal events. The sensitivity of the process $pp\to j j \ell^+\ell^-\nu\bar{\nu}$ to anomalous $\gamma\gamma WW$ couplings and the expected constraints on the coefficients at current and possible future LHC are also studied., Comment: 28 pages, 15 figures

In this paper, we investigate the contributions of anomalous quartic gauge couplings (aQGCs) to $Z\gamma jj$ production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the context of Standard Model effective theory (SMEFT). When energy scale is large, the validity of SMEFT becomes an important issue. To ensure the validity, the unitarity bound is applied in a model independent approach, which is found to have significant suppressive effects on the signals of $O_{M_i}$ operators. The kinematic and polarization features of the aQGC signals are also studied. The polarization effect is useful to highlight the signals of $O_{T_i}$ operators. Quantum simulation has shown great potential in many fields due to its powerful computational capabilities. However, the limited fidelity can lead to a severe limitation on the number of gate operations, which requires us to find optimized algorithms. Trotter decomposition and high order Trotter decompositions are widely used in quantum simulations. We find that they can be significantly improved by force-gradient integrator in lattice QCD. By using two applications as examples, we show that the force-gradient decomposition can reduce the number of gate operations up to about a third of those using high order Trotter decompositions. The search of new physics~(NP) beyond the Standard Model is one of the most important tasks of high energy physics. A common characteristic of the NP signals is that they are usually few and kinematically different. We use a model independent strategy to study the phenomenology of NP by directly picking out and studying the kinematically unusual events. For this purpose, the isolation forest~(IF) algorithm is applied, which is found to be efficient in identifying the signal events of the anomalous quartic gauge couplings~(aQGCs). The IF algorithm can also be used to constraint the coefficients of aQGCs. Compared with the traditional magnetic bubble, skyrmion has smaller size, better stability therefore is considered as a very promising candidate for future memory devices. When skyrmions are manipulated, erased and created, the density of skyrmions can be varied, however the relationship between the radii and the densities of skyrmions needs more exploration. In this paper, we study this problem both theoretically and by using the lattice simulation. The average radius of skyrmions as a function of material parameters, the strength of external magnetic field and the density of skyrmions is obtained and verified. With this explicit function, the skyrmion radius can be easily predicted, which is helpful for the future study of skyrmion memory devices., Comment: 17 pages, 10 figures

The neutral triple gauge couplings~(nTGCs) provide a unique opportunity to probe new physics beyond the Standard Model. The nTGCs can be described by an effective field theory~(EFT), which is valid only under a certain energy scale. One of the signatures that an EFT is no longer valid is the violation of unitarity. We study the partial wave unitarity bounds on the coefficients of nTGCs in the process $e^+e^-\to Z\gamma$. In the experiments, the constraints obtained should be tighter than the unitarity bounds, otherwise the results are meaningless, therefore there exists a minimal luminosity for a $e^+e^-$ collider such as the CEPC to study the nTGCs. To derive the minimal luminosity, the kinematic features and event selection strategy are studied by Monte-Carlo simulation. Both the processes $e^+e^-\to \ell^+\ell^-\gamma$ and $e^+e^-\to jj\gamma$ are studied, event selection strategies are discussed. Based on the statistical significance, the expected constraints in experiments are estimated. The vector boson scattering at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is sensitive to anomalous quartic gauge couplings (aQGCs). In this paper, we investigate the aQGC contribution to $ W \gamma jj$ production at the LHC with $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV in the context of an effective field theory (EFT). The unitarity bound is applied as a cut on the energy scale of this production process, which is found to have significant suppressive effects on the signals. To enhance the statistical significance, we analyse the kinematic and polarization features of the aQGC signals in detail. We find that the polarization effects induced by the aQGCs are unique and can discriminate the signals from the SM backgrounds well. With the proposed event selection strategy, we obtain the constraints on the coefficients of dimension-8 operators with current luminosity. The vector boson scattering (VBS) processes in Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiments offer a unique opportunity to probe the anomalous quartic gauge couplings (aQGCs). Bell inequalities are consequences of local realism while violated by quantum mechanics. In particle physics, entangled high energy particles can be produced from a common source, and the decay of each particle plays the role of measurement. However, in a hidden variable theory, the decay could be determined by hidden variables. This loophole killed such approaches to Bell test in particle physics. It is a special form of measurement-setting or free-will loophole, which also exists in other systems. Using entangled baryons, we present new inequalities of local realism with the explicit assumption of the dependence of the decays on hidden variables, as well as the consideration of the statistical mixture of polarizations and the separation of local hidden variables for objects with spacelike distances. These violations closes the measurement-setting loophole once and for all. We propose to use the processes $\eta _c\to \Lambda \bar{\Lambda}$ and $\chi _{c0} \to \Lambda \bar{\Lambda}$ to test our inequalities, and show that their violations are likely to be observed with the data already collected in BESIII., Comment: 11 pages

Gauge theory is the framework of the Standard Model of particle physics and is also important in condensed matter physics. As its major non-perturbative approach, lattice gauge theory is traditionally implemented using Monte Carlo simulation, consequently it usually suffers such problems as the Fermion sign problem and the lack of real-time dynamics. Hopefully they can be avoided by using quantum simulation, which simulates quantum systems by using controllable true quantum processes. The field of quantum simulation is under rapid development. Here we present a circuit-based digital scheme of quantum simulation of quantum $\mathbb{Z}_2$ lattice gauge theory in $2+1$ and $3+1$ dimensions, using quantum adiabatic algorithms implemented in terms of universal quantum gates. Our algorithm generalizes the Trotter and symmetric decompositions to the case that the Hamiltonian varies at each step in the decomposition. Furthermore, we carry through a complete demonstration of this scheme in classical GPU simulator, and obtain key features of quantum $\mathbb{Z}_2$ lattice gauge theory, including quantum phase transitions, topological properties, gauge invariance and duality. Hereby dubbed pseudoquantum simulation, classical demonstration of quantum simulation in state-of-art fast computers not only facilitates the development of schemes and algorithms of real quantum simulation, but also represents a new approach of practical computation., Comment: 34 pages

It has been well established that quantum mechanics (QM) violates Bell inequalities (BI), which are consequences of local realism (LR). Remarkably QM also violates Leggett inequalities (LI), which are consequences of a class of nonlocal realism called crypto-nonlocal realism (CNR). Both LR and CNR assume that measurement outcomes are determined by preexisting objective properties, as well as hidden variables (HV) not considered in QM. We extend CNR and LI to include the case that the measurement settings are not externally fixed, but determined by hidden variables (HV). We derive a new version of LI, which is then shown to be violated by entangled $B_d$ mesons, if charge-conjugation-parity (CP) symmetry is indirectly violated, as indeed established. The experimental result is quantitatively estimated by using the indirect CP violation parameter, and the maximum of a suitably defined relative violation is about $2.7\%$. Our work implies that standard model (SM) of particle physics violates CNR. Our LI can also be tested in other systems such as photon polarizations., Comment: 28 pages

Based on analytical estimation and lattice simulation, a proposal is made that magnetic skyrmions can be generated through the pinning effect in 2D chiral magnetic materials, in absence of an external magnetic field or magnetic anisotropy. In our simulation, stable magnetic skyrmions can be generated in the pinning areas. We investigate the spectral function of the Higgs mode in a two dimensional Bose gas, by using the effective field theory in the zero temperature limit. Our approach explains the experimental feature that the peak of the spectral function is a soft continuum rather than a sharp peak, broadened and vanishing in the superfluid phase, which cannot be explained in terms of the $O(2)$ model. We investigate the spectral functions of the Higgs mode in $O(2)$ model, which can be experimentally realized in a 2D Bose gas. Zero temperature limit is considered. Our calculation fully includes the 2-loop contributions. Peaks show up in the spectral functions of both the longitudinal and the scalar susceptibilities. Thus this model cannot explain the disappearance of the response at the weak interaction limit. Neither it can explain the similarity between the longitudinal and the scalar susceptibilities in the visibility of the Higgs mode. We propose a method of determining the shape of a two-dimensional magnetic skyrmion, which can be parameterized as the position dependence of the orientation of the local magnetic moment, by using the expansion in terms of the eigenfunctions of the Schr\"{o}dinger equation of a harmonic oscillator. A variational calculation is done, up to the next-to-next-to-leading order. This result is verified by a lattice simulation based on Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation. In this work, we study the radiative leptonic decays of $B^-$ and $D^-$ mesons using factorization approach. Factorization is proved to be valid explicitly at 1-loop level at any order of $O(\Lambda_{\rm QCD}\left/m_Q\right.)$. We consider the contribution in the soft photon region that $E_{\gamma} \sim \left. \Lambda^2_{\rm QCD} /\right. m_Q$. The numerical results shows that, the soft photon region is very important for both the $B$ and $D$ mesons. The branching ratios of $B\to \gamma e\nu_e$ is $5.21\times 10^{-6}$, which is about $3$ times of the result obtained by only considering the hard photon region $E_{\gamma}\sim m_Q$. In this work, we study the radiative leptonic decays of $B^-$ and $D^-$ mesons in the standard model and the two-Higgs-doublet-model type II. The results are obtained using the factorization procedure, and the contribution of the order $O(\Lambda _{\rm QCD}\left/m_Q\right.)$ is included. The numerical results are calculated using the wave-function obtained in relativistic potential model. As a result, the decay mode $B\to \gamma \tau \nu_{\tau}$ is found to be sensitive to the effect of the charged Higgs boson. Using the constraint on the free parameters of the two Higgs doublet model given in previous works, we find the contribution of the charged Higgs boson in the decay mode $B\to \gamma \tau \nu_{\tau}$ can be as large as about $13\%$., Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures
