Abstract Aims and Objectives This study aimed to investigate the current status of the core competencies and self‐directed learning ability of diabetes specialist nurses and to explore the relationship between these core competencies and their self‐directed learning ability. Design A cross‐sectional survey design was used. Methods This cross‐sectional study was conducted via a web‐based questionnaire platform in China from January 14 to April 24, 2023. The survey included a general information questionnaire, a diabetes specialist nurses' core competencies self‐assessment scale, and a nursing staff's self‐directed learning ability evaluation scale. The data was collected online. Descriptive, correlation and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted using SPSS 26.0 software. Results 118 diabetes specialist nurses from 11 cities participated in this study. A positive correlation was observed between the core competencies of diabetes specialist nurses and their self‐directed learning ability. The characteristics affecting the core competencies of diabetes specialist nurses included age, participation in external learning and communication and self‐directed learning. Conclusions The training of diabetes specialist nurses can focus on core competencies, and the ability to self‐direct learning can be used as an entry point to customize feasible theoretical and practical courses. The training system can further improve diabetes specialist nurses' core competencies and self‐directed learning abilities. Relevance to Clinical Practice A reference can be established that nursing managers and nursing educators can use to develop training programs for specialist nurses by validating the link between their core competencies and self‐directed learning skills. Patient or Public Contribution Participants were involved solely in the data collection process. No participant contributions were required for the study's design, outcome measurement or implementation.

Chemosensory proteins (CSPs) are small scavenger proteins that are mainly known as transporters of pheromone/odor molecules at the periphery of sensory neurons in the insect antennae and in the producing cells from the moth female pheromone gland. Sequencing cDNAs of RNA encoding CSPs in the antennae, legs, head, pheromone gland and wings from five single individual adult females of the silkworm moth Bombyx mori showed that they differed from genomic sequences by subtle nucleotide replacement (RDD). Both intronless and intronic CSP genes expressed RDDs, although in different rates. Most interestingly, in our study the degree of RDDs in CSP genes were found to be tissue-specific. The proportion of CSP-RDDs was found to be significantly much higher in the pheromone gland. In addition, Western blot analysis of proteins in different tissues showed existence of multiple CSP protein variant chains particularly found in the pheromone gland. Peptide sequencing demonstrated the occurrence of a pleiad of protein variants for most of all BmorCSPs from the pheromone gland. Our findings show that RNA editing is an important feature in the expression of CSPs and that a high variety of RDDs is found to expand drastically thus altering the repertoire of CSP proteins in a tissue-specific manner.

Background: More and more novel anticancer drugs have been approved for patients with hematological malignancies in recent years, but HBV reactivation (HBV-R) data in this population is very scarce. This study aimed to evaluated HBV-R risk in patients with hematological malignancies receiving novel anticancer drugs. Methods: HBV markers and serum HBV DNA levels of patients with hematological malignancies receiving novel anticancer drugs in a tertiary cancer hospital were retrospectively collected. HBV-R risk in the whole cohort and subgroups was described. The relevant literature was reviewed to make a pooled analysis. Results: Of 845 patients receiving novel anticancer drugs, 258 (30.5%) were considered at risk for HBV-R. The median duration of exposure to novel drugs was 5.6 (0.1–67.6) months. The incidence of HBV-R was 2.1% in patients with past HBV infection without prophylactic antiviral treatment (PAT) and 1.2% in all patients at risk of HBV-R. In a pooled analysis of 11 studies with 464 patients, the incidence of HBV-R was 2.4% (95% CI: 1.3–4.2) in all at-risk patients receiving novel anticancer drugs and 0.6% (95% CI: 0.03–3.5) in patients with anticancer drugs plus PAT. The incidence of death due to HBV-R was 0.4% (95% CI: 0.1–1.6) in all at-risk patients and 18.2% (95% CI: 3.2–47.7) in patients with HBV-R. Conclusion: Most episodes of HBV-R are preventable, and most cases with HBV-R are manageable. We recommend that novel anticancer drugs should not be intentionally avoided when treating cancer patients with HBV infection.

Dry eye is a multifactorial disease characterized by loss of ocular surface homeostasis and increased tear film instability, accompanied by ocular symptoms such as ocular dryness, foreign body sensation, burning sensation, eye redness, pain, photophobia, tearing, eye fatigue, decreased visual acuity, increased secretion, and sensitivity to external stimuli. Its pathophysiological mechanisms are mainly tear film instability, elevated tear osmolarity(Tosm), ocular surface inflammation and injury, and neurosensory abnormalities. Tosm is an important factor in maintaining tear film stability and ocular surface comfort. Elevated Tosm can cause ocular discomfort, corneal epithelial damage, loss of goblet cells and ocular inflammatory response in dry eye patients, and the inflammatory response can further reduce tear film stability and increase Tosm, which puts dry eye in a vicious cycle. In order to have a more comprehensive understanding of the relationship between tear hyperosmolarity(THO)and dry eye, this article will focus on the role of THO in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, severity classification and targeted treatment of dry eyes from the aspect of pathophysiology.

With high carbon emission, the low-carbon transition of power sector will be critical for China to achieve the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. The power transition will have an impact on the economy and employment through the value chain. Quantifying the impact is important for China's future energy and welfare policies. This study adopts input‒output model to analyze the impact on economy and employment based on accelerated and slow power transition scenarios. The results show that the low-carbon power transition will have a negative impact on coal power and coal mining and washing sectors, while a positive impact on machine manufacturing and equipment sector. Low-carbon power transition will have a positive economic and employment effect to promote inclusive growth. By 2060, economic output will increase by about 8.50 trillion CNY, value-added by about 3.39 trillion CNY, and employment will increase by about 3.74 million. Although slower coal power transition can stabilize the economic and employment effect in the short and medium run, accelerating the power transition will produce more positive effect and lower job losses by coal power in the long run. By 2060, accelerating transition will boost output by 8.21%, value-added by 8.20% and jobs by 7.97%. Accordingly, the government should establish an all-round just low-carbon transition mechanism.

IntroductionBrain metastasis is the terminal event of breast cancer with poor prognoses. Therefore, this article aimed to provide an updated summary on the development, hotspots, and research trends of brain metastasis from breast cancer based on bibliometric analysis.MethodPublications on breast cancer with brain metastasis retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and other online bibliometric analysis platforms were used to analyze and visualize the result.ResultIn totality, 693 researchers from 3,623 institutions across 74 counties and regions published a total of 2,790 papers in 607 journals. There was a noticeable increase in publications in 2006. The United States was the dominant country with the most publications followed by China. University Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center was the most productive institution, while Dana Farber Cancer Institution was the most cited. Journal of Neuro-Oncology published the most papers, while Journal of Clinical Oncology ranked first based on cocited analysis. Nancy U. Lin was the most productive and cited author with high influence. There was a focus on basic research, clinical trials, local therapy, treatment optimization, and epidemiological studies regarding brain metastases from breast cancer. References focused on pathogenesis, prevention, treatment, and prognosis were cited most frequently, among which the clinical trial of novel treatment attracted most attention from researchers. Reference citation burst detection suggested that new therapies such as the novel tyrosine kinase inhibitor and antibody–drug conjugate may lead the research trends in the future.ConclusionHigh-income countries contributed more to the field of breast cancer with brain metastasis, while developing countries like China developed quickly. Furthermore, the success of novel therapies in recent years may lead to the new era of treatment of breast cancer with brain metastasis in the future.

Complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS) is a rare disease that can be easily misdiagnosed. Before puberty, this condition is easily misdiagnosed as an inguinal hernia. This case report describes a 31-year-old phenotypically female patient with CAIS who was misdiagnosed twice previously with an inguinal hernia. Her karyotype analysis showed that she was 46, XY. She underwent a bilateral gonadectomy and long-term hormone replacement therapy. A Leydig cell tumour of the right testis was diagnosed postoperatively. This report also reviews the current understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of CAIS.

BackgroundFew studies have focused on the incidence and correlation of social frailty (SF) with adverse health events in Southwest China. This study aims to explore the predictive value of SF for adverse health events.MethodsA 6-year prospective cohort study was employed, a total of 460 community-dwelling older adults aged 65 years and above were analyzed to provide a baseline in 2014. Participants completed two longitudinal follow-ups at 3 (2017, 426 participants involved) and 6 (2020, 359 participants involved) years later. A modified social frailty screening index was used in this study, and adverse health events such as physical frailty (PF) deterioration, disability, hospitalization, falls, and mortality were evaluated.ResultsAmong these participants in 2014, the median age was 71 years, 41.1% were male, and 71.1% were married or cohabiting, up to 112 (24.3%) of them were classified as SF. It was observed that aging (OR = 1.04, 95% CI = 1.00–1.07, P = 0.047) and having family members die in the past year (OR = 2.60, 95% CI = 0.93–7.25, P = 0.068) were risk factors of SF, whereas having a mate (OR = 0.40, 95% CI = 0.25–0.66, P = 0.000) and having family members to help with care (OR = 0.53, 95% CI = 0.26–1.11, P = 0.092) were protective factors of SF. The cross-sectional study demonstrated that SF was only significantly associated with disability (OR = 12.89, 95% CI = 2.67–62.13, P = 0.001) at wave 1. Baseline SF significantly explained the incidence of mortality at the 3-year (medium-term, OR = 4.89, 95% CI = 2.23–10.71, P = 0.000) and 6-year follow-ups (long-term, OR = 2.22, 95% CI = 1.15–4.28, P = 0.017).ConclusionSF prevalence was higher in the Chinese older population. Older adults with SF had a significantly increased incidence of mortality at the longitudinal follow-up. Consecutive comprehensive health management of SF (e.g., avoiding living alone and increasing social engagement) is urgently needed for the purposes of early prevention and multidimensional intervention in adverse health events, including disability and mortality.

Abstract Levosimendan and dobutamine are extensively used to treat sepsis-associated cardiovascular failure in ICU. Nevertheless, the role and mechanism of levosimendan in patients with sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy remains unclear. Moreover, previous studies on whether levosimendan is superior to dobutamine are still controversial. More importantly, these studies did not take changes (before-after comparison to the baseline) in quantitative parameters such as ejection fraction into account with the baseline level. Here, we aimed to determine the pros and cons of the two medicines by assessing the changes in cardiac function and blood lactate, mortality, with the standardized mean difference used as a summary statistic. Relevant studies were obtained by a thorough and disciplined literature search in several notable academic databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, Cochrane Library and Embase until November 2020. Outcomes included changes in cardiac function, lactic acid, mortality and length of hospital stay. A total of 6 randomized controlled trials were included in this study, including 192 patients. TCP proteins are plant-specific transcription factors, which are involved in a broad range of physiological processes of plant growth and development. However, the origin and evolutionary history of this gene family is not fully resolved. Here, we present a genome-wide survey of TCP genes in 59 species (including 42 genomes and 17 transcriptomes) covering all main lineages of green plants, and reconstruct the evolutionary history of this gene family. Our results suggested that the origin of TCP genes predated the emergence of land plants, possibly in the common ancestor of Phragmoplastophyta. The TCP gene family gradually experienced a continuous expansion and grew from a few members in algae, moss and lycophytes to dozens, and sometimes over 50 members in angiosperms. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that at least four subclades (Class I and three subclades of Class II) have been occurred in the ancestor of spermatophyte (seed plant). Both dispersed duplication and segmental duplication or whole-genome duplication (WGD) contributed significantly to the expansion of the TCP gene family over the course of evolution. Our findings provide a comprehensive evolutionary analysis of the TCP gene family and highlight the importance of gene duplications in the evolution of this plant-specific transcription factors.

Antibiotic treatment of endometritis was limited by the inevitable antibiotic residues and risk of bacterial resistance. Therefore, the development of safe and effective strategies for endometritis treatment is urgently needed. Syringa oblata Lindl. (SOL) showed great pharmacological potential against endometritis. However, the active components and underlying mechanism of SOL for endometritis treatment remain indeterminate. In our study, the active components and possible molecular mechanism of SOL against endometritis were predicted through computer data mining and biological networks construction. It was predicted that the main active components of SOL were luteolin, kaempferol, oleanolic acid, and rutin, and their anti-endometritis effect was mainly attributed to the TLRs/NF-κB signaling pathway. Furthermore, a green and efficient deep eutectic solvent combined with ultrasound-assisted extraction (DES-UAE) was performed and optimized to obtain high contents of total flavonoid, rutin, and luteolin. The four predicted active components in the SOL extracts were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed by LC/MS and HPLC. Finally, the pharmacological effects of SOL and active components have been verified by Staphylococcus aureus-endometritis models in mice. H&E staining and bacterial load in uterus tissues assays initially validated the pharmacodynamic effects of SOL, and quantitative real-time PCR (RT-qPCR) and ELISA results confirmed that SOL and four active components could ameliorate the uterus injury caused by Staphylococcus aureus, the mechanism of action is related to the TLRs/NF-κB signaling pathway.

BackgroundHigh serum uric acid (SUA) levels increase the risk of overall cancer morbidity and mortality, particularly for digestive malignancies. Nevertheless, the correlation between SUA level and clinical outcomes of the postoperative patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) treated by chemotherapy is unclear. This study aimed at exploring the relationship between baseline SUA level and progression-free survival (PFS), disease control rate (DCR), and safety in postoperative CRC patients receiving chemotherapy.Patients and MethodsWe conducted a retrospective study to evaluate the relationship between baseline SUA level and PFS, DCR, and incidence of serious adverse events of 736 postoperative CRC patients treated with FOLFOX, FOLFIRI or XELOX at our center.ResultsData from our center suggested that high baseline SUA level is linked to poor PFS in non-metastatic CRC patients using FOLFOX (HR=2.59, 95%CI: 1.29-11.31, p=0.018) and in male patients using FOLFIRI (HR=3.77, 95%CI: 1.57-39.49, p=0.012). In patients treated by FOLFIRI, a high SUA is also linked to a low DCR (p=0.035). In patients using FOLFOX, high baseline SUA level is also linked to a high incidence of neutropenia (p=0.0037). For patients using XELOX, there is no significant correlation between SUA level and PFS, effectiveness, or safety.ConclusionsThese findings imply that a high SUA level is a promising biomarker associated with poor PFS, DCR and safety of postoperative CRC patients when treated with FOLFOX or FOLFIRI.

Abstract Background Pathogenesis of Helicobacter Pylori (HP) vacuolating toxin A (vacA) depends on polymorphic diversity within the signal (s), middle (m), intermediate (i), deletion (d) and c-regions. These regions show distinct allelic diversity. The s-region, m-region and the c-region (a 15 bp deletion at the 3′-end region of the p55 domain of the vacA gene) exist as 2 types (s1, s2, m1, m2, c1 and c2), while the i–region has 3 allelic types (i1, i2 and i3). The locus of d-region of the vacA gene has also been classified into 2 genotypes, namely d1 and d2. We investigated the “d-region”/“loop region” through bioinformatics, to predict its properties and relation to disease. One thousand two hundred fifty-nine strains from the NCBI nucleotide database and the dryad database with complete vacA sequences were included in the study. The sequences were aligned using BioEdit and analyzed using Lasergene and BLAST. The secondary structure and physicochemical properties of the region were predicted using PredictProtein. Results We identified 31 highly polymorphic genotypes in the “d-region”, with a mean length of 34 amino acids (9 ~ 55 amino acids). We further classified the 31 genotypes into 3 main types, namely K-type (strains starting with the KDKP motif in the “d-region”), Q-type (strains starting with the KNQT motif), and E-type (strains starting with the ESKT motif) respectively. Understanding and forecasting species’ response to climate change is a critical need for future conservation and management. Two expansion hypotheses, the glacial expansion versus the interglacial expansion, have been proposed to interpret how cold-adapted organisms in the northern hemisphere respond to Quaternary climatic fluctuations. To test these two hypotheses, we originally used two pairs of high-low elevation firs from North America (Abies lasiocarpa and Abies balsamea) and East Asia (Abies chensiensis and Abies nephrolepis). Abies lasiocarpa and Abies chensiensis are widely distributed in high-elevation regions of western North America and central China. Abies balsamea and Abies nephrolepis occur in central North America and northeast China, with much lower elevations. These fir species are typical cold-adapted species and sensitive to climate fluctuations. Here, we integrated the mtDNA and cpDNA polymorphisms involving 44 populations and 585 individuals. Based on phylogeographic analyses, recent historical range expansions were indicated in two high-elevation firs (Abies lasiocarpa and Abies chensiensis) during the last glaciation (43.8–28.4 or 21.9–14.2 kya, 53.1–34.5 or 26.6–17.2 kya). Such glacial expansions in high-elevation firs were further confirmed by the evidence of species distribution modelling, geographic-driven genetic patterns, palynological records, and current distribution patterns. Unlike the north American firs, the SDM models indicated unremarkable expansion or contraction in East Asia firs for its much more stable conditions during different historical periods. Taken together, our findings highly supported that high-elevation firs experienced glacial expansion during the Quaternary climate change in East Asia and North America, as interglacial expansion within low-elevation firs. Under this situation, the critically endangered fir species distributed in high elevation would have no enough higher elevational space to migrate. Facing the increasing global warming, thus we proposed ex-situ conservation of defining conservation units as the most meaningful strategy.

Abstract Background Hazy weather significantly increase air pollution and affect light intensity which may also affect medicinal plants growth. Syringa oblata Lindl. (S. oblata), an effective anti-biofilm medicinal plants, is also vulnerable to changes in plant photoperiods and other abiotic stress responses. Rutin, one of the flavonoids, is the main bioactive ingredient in S. oblata that inhibits Streptococcus suis biofilm formation. Thus, the present study aims to explore the biosynthesis and molecular basis of flavonoids in S. oblata in response to different light intensity. Results In this study, it was shown that compared with natural (Z0) and 25% ~ 35% (Z2) light intensities, the rutin content of S. oblata under 50% ~ 60% (Z1) light intensity increased significantly. In addition, an integrated analysis of metabolome and transcriptome was performed using light intensity stress conditions from two kinds of light intensities which S. oblata was subjected to: Z0 and Z1. The results revealed that differential metabolites and genes were mainly related to the flavonoid biosynthetic pathway. We found out that 13 putative structural genes and a transcription factor bHLH were significantly up-regulated in Z1. Among them, integration analysis showed that 3 putative structural genes including 4CL1, CYP73A and CYP75B1 significantly up-regulated the rutin biosynthesis, suggesting that these putative genes may be involved in regulating the flavonoid biosynthetic pathway, thereby making them key target genes in the whole metabolic process. Conclusions The present study provided helpful information to search for the novel putative genes that are potential targets for S. oblata in response to light intensity.

Background Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most prevalent types of upper gastrointestinal malignancies. Here, we used 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-NMR) to identify potential serum biomarkers in patients with early stage ESCC. Methods Sixty-five serum samples from early stage ESCC patients (n = 25) and healthy controls (n = 40) were analysed using 1H-NMR spectroscopy. We distinguished between different metabolites through principal component analysis, partial least squares-discriminant analysis, and orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) using SIMCA-P+ version 14.0 software. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was conducted to verify potential biomarkers. Results Using OPLS-DA, 31 altered serum metabolites were successfully identified between the groups. Based on the area under the ROC curve (AUROC), and the biomarker panel with AUROC of 0.969, six serum metabolites (α-glucose, choline, glutamine, glutamate, valine, and dihydrothymine) were selected as potential biomarkers for early stage ESCC. Dihydrothymine particularly was selected as a new feasible biomarker associated with tumor occurrence. Conclusions 1H-NMR spectroscopy may be a useful tumour detection approach in identifying useful metabolic ESCC biomarkers for early diagnosis and in the exploration of the molecular pathogenesis of ESCC.

BackgroundMalnutrition is very common in elderly patients admitted to the hospital. The aim of our study is to assess the nutritional status of elderly patients and the use of nutritional support in a tertiary care hospital in China and to analyze the impacts of nutritional status and nutritional support on clinical outcomes.MethodsStatistical analysis was performed on a sample of 745 elderly patients in the geriatric medicine department of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University from March 2012 to March 2015. The Nutrition Risk Screening 2002 (NRS 2002) and Mini Nutritional Assessment-short forms (MNA-SF) were utilized for the nutritional risk screening at admission. Personal information, anthropometric measurements, laboratory tests, nutritional support and clinical outcomes were recorded. Comparisons were carried out to analyze impacts on clinical outcomes and prognosis based on incidence rate of nutritional risk, nutritional support rate, and different methods of support.ResultsNRS 2002 and MNA-SF were utilized to screen for nutritional risk at admission. The results of this screening were 39.81% and 44.10%, respectively. Based on the results of the MNA-SF, 33.38% of elderly patients were at risk of malnutrition and 5.5% were malnourished. The incidence of nutritional risk in the departments of Gastroenterology, Hematology, and Respiratory were 51.72%, 46.88%, 43.33%, respectively, higher than in other departments. Patients with nutritional risk were more likely to have a longer hospital stay compared to those without (P < 0.05). The nutritional support rate of patients overall was 16.49%, and the ratio of Parenteral nutrition (PN):Enteral nutrition (EN) was 5.13:1. Patients at nutritional risk had an in-hospital support rate of 29.63% and 28.57%, respectively, identified via screening by NRS 2002 and MNA-SF. Nutritional support rate of patients without nutritional risk was 7.8%(35/449) and 6.96%(29/417), respectively. Patients in the departments of Gastroenterology and Hematology had higher rates of nutritional support than patients in other departments. In addition, results showed that in patients with nutritional risk and malnutrition, nutritional support decreased the length of hospital stay (PConclusionsUndernourishment and nutritional risk in elderly patients at hospital admission is a common occurrence. In the current study, the nutritional risk rate in the Gastroenterology department was higher than in other departments. Patients with normal nutritional status were still receiving nutritional support. Overall, there is a need to better apply nutritional support in the clinical treatment of elderly patients. In elderly patients with nutritional risk and malnutrition, nutritional support reduced the length of hospital stay and the incidence of infectious complications.

Manglietia crassipes, a critically endangered species narrowly distributed on Mount Dayao in Guangxi, China, is also a species of ornamental interest whose variability has not been explored. Key factors leading to its endangerment have also not been studied. Here, two experiments were conducted to test the effects of different plant growth regulators and different storage conditions on germination characteristics of M. crassipes seeds. Fruit morphology was measured, and germination characteristics of fresh mature seeds were tested in order to assess natural seed vigor. Seeds were soaked in distilled water (control), or gibberellic acid (GA3), 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BA) or indoleacetic acid (IAA) solutions of different concentrations, for 48 h to determine their effects on seed germination. In addition, the effects of different seed storage conditions (constant 4 °C, −7 °C, −20 °C, or 25 °C for 100 days, wet stratification at 4 °C for 100 days) on seed germination were investigated. Results showed that the abortive rate of the mature fruits was high (28.9%) and fresh natural seeds had a low germination rate (G) and germination index (GI). Seed germination was inhibited with 6-BA at all concentrations, but only at less than 100 m·L−1 IAA; otherwise, IAA slightly promoted seed germination. GA3 broke seed dormancy and significantly accelerated seed germination by improving G, GI and initial germination time (IGT), especially over 2500 mg·L−1. The viability of seeds declined no matter how they were stored. However, 4 °C wet stratification storage was preferable for seed vigor and germination power. Our results suggest that the high abortive rate of fruits, low germination of the natural seed, seed dormancy and its intolerance to storage, contributed to the endangerment of M. crassipes. GA3 can break M. crassipes seed dormancy, which can be a benefit for future ornamental breeding and further protection or conservation.

Abies beshanzuensis is critically endangered and endemic to Zhengjiang province of China, with only three surviving individuals. In present study, we reported the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of Abies beshanzuensis. The complete chloroplast genome size is 121,399 bp. In total, 114genes were identified, including 68 peptide-encoding genes, 35 tRNA genes, four rRNA genes, six open reading frames and one pseudogene. Loss of ndh genes was also identified in the genome of A. beshanzuensis like other genomes in the family Pinaceae. Thirteen genes contain one (11 genes) or two (rps12 and ycf3 genes) introns. Inverted repeat sequences located in 42-kb inversion points (1186 bp) include trnS-psaM-ycf12-trnG genes. In phylogenetic analysis, the tree confirms that the four Abies species are strongly supported as monophyletic. The complete plastome of A. beshanzuensis will provide potential genetic resources for further conservation and evolutionary studies of this highly endangered species.

The herbicide diuron is hardly soluble in water and most organic solvents and is usually made into a wettable powder or mixed with soil when used, which causes environmental risk and a reduction in herbicidal efficacy. In this study, the physicochemical properties were changed by using β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) to encapsulate diuron to form an inclusion complex. Some key technologies, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), were used to characterize the inclusion complex. The stoichiometry of the inclusion complex was determined by recording the 1H NMR spectrum or by using a diagram of inclusion ratios. A phase solubility study proved that the formed inclusion complex exhibited higher water solubility. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) demonstrated that the formed inclusion complex exhibited better thermal stability. Biological activity studies indicated that the herbicidal activity, in terms of herbicide removal, of the formed inclusion complex was higher than that of the original diuron. In general, the formation of the inclusion complex could reduce the environmental damage caused by diuron and enhance its herbicidal activity, providing an environmentally friendly method for using diuron.

In this study, reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was electrochemically deposited on the surface of screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCE) to prepare a disposable sensor for fast detection of Pb2+ in foods. The SEM images showed that the rGO was homogeneously deposited onto the electrode surface with a wrinkled nanostructure, which provided 2D bridges for electron transport and a larger active area for Pb2+ adsorption. Results showed that rGO modification enhanced the activity of the electrode surface, and significantly improved the electrochemical properties of SPCE. The rGO modified SPCE (rGO-SPCE) was applied to detect Pb2+ in standard aqueous solution, showing a sharp stripping peak and a relatively constant peak potential in square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV). The linear range for Pb2+ detection was 5~200 ppb (R2 = 0.9923) with a low detection limit of 1 ppb (S/N = 3). The interference of Cd2+ and Cu2+ at low concentrations was effectively avoided. Finally, the rGO-SPCE was used for determination of lead in real tap water, juice, preserved eggs and tea samples. Compared with results from graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy (GFAAS), the results based on rGO-SPCE were both accurate and reliable, suggesting that the disposable sensor has great potential in application for fast, sensitive and low-cost detection of Pb2+ in foods.
