To evaluate the current evidence of pregnancy outcomes among couples with recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) with abnormal karyotypes vs. those with normal karyotypes and among couples with RPL and abnormal karyotypes after receiving expectant management vs. preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD).Systematic review and meta-analysis.Academic medical centers.Pregnancy outcomes in 6,301 couples with RPL who conceived without medical intervention in 11 studies were analyzed. However, only 2 studies addressed the outcomes of couples with RPL and abnormal karyotypes after expectant management (75 cases) vs. PGD (50 cases).None.The pregnancy outcomes in couples with RPL with abnormal and normal karyotypes across included studies were evaluated.Compared with those with a normal karyotype, a significantly lower first pregnancy live birth rate (LBR) was found in couples with RPL with abnormal karyotypes (58.5% vs. 71.9%; odds ratio [OR], 0.55; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.46-0.65; ICouples with RPL and abnormal karyotypes had a higher miscarriage rate than couples with normal karyotypes but achieved a noninferior accumulated LBR through multiple conception attempts. In couples with RPL and abnormal karyotypes, PGD treatment did not increase the accumulated LBR but markedly reduced miscarriage rate compared with expectant management.

Background. TOSO, also named Fas inhibitory molecule 3 (FAIM3), has recently been identified as an immunoglobulin M (IgM) Fc receptor (FcμR). Previous studies have shown that TOSO is specifically over-expressed in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). However, the functions of TOSO in CLL remain unknown. The B-cell receptor (BCR) signaling pathway has been reported to be constitutively activated in CLL. Here, we aimed to investigate the functions of TOSO in the BCR signaling pathway and the pathogenesis of CLL. Methods. We over-expressed TOSO in B-cell lymphoma cell lines (Granta-519 and Z138) by lentiviral transduction and knocked down TOSO by siRNA in primary CLL cells. The over-expression and knockdown of TOSO were confirmed at the RNA level by polymerase chain reaction and protein level by Western blotting. Co-immunoprecipitation with TOSO antibody followed by liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (IP/LCMS) was used to identify TOSO interacting proteins. Western blotting was performed to detect the activation status of BCR signaling pathways as well as B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL-2). Flow cytometry was used to examine the apoptosis of TOSO-over-expressing B lymphoma cell lines and TOSO-down-regulated CLL cells via the staining of Annexin V and 7-AAD. One-way analyses of variance were used for intergroup comparisons, while independent samples t tests were used for two-sample comparisons. Results. From IP/LCMS, we identified spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) as a crucial candidate of TOSO-interacting protein and confirmed it by co-immunoprecipitation. After stimulation with anti-IgM, TOSO over-expression increased the phosphorylation of SYK, and subsequently activated the BCR signaling pathway, which could be reversed by a SYK inhibitor. TOSO knockdown in primary CLL cells resulted in reduced SYK phosphorylation as well as attenuated BCR signaling pathway. The apoptosis rates of the Granta-519 and Z138 cells expressing TOSO were (8.46 ± 2.90)% and (4.20 ± 1.21)%, respectively, significantly lower than the rates of the control groups, which were (25.20 ± 4.60)% and (19.72 ± 1.10)%, respectively (P

The never in mitosis gene A (NIMA)-related kinase 2 (NEK2) protein has been reported to be an oncoprotein that plays different oncogenic roles in multiple cancers. Here, we confirmed that NEK2 highly expressed in cervical cancer cells rather than in normal epithelial basal layer cells in cervical tissues and correlated with worse outcomes. We also demonstrated that NEK2 promoted the in vivo growth of subcutaneous xenograft tumors stemming from cervical cancer cells and the in vitro cell proliferation by decreasing Ser127-phosphorylation of the YAP protein retained in the cytoplasm while increasing the levels of active nucleus-associated YAP protein, which was followed by increases in the targeted proteins CTGF, CYR61 and GLI2. Furthermore, the Hippo signaling pathway was inactivated in manipulated NEK2-overexpressing cervical cancer cells by regulating the levels of MST1/2 dephosphorylation. Additionally, mass spectrometric sequencing and bilateral coimmunoprecipitation were employed suggested that NEK2 acted at an early upstream step to promote dephosphorylation of MST2 and inactivate the Hippo signaling cascade by cooperating with STRIPAK complexes. We conjecture that NEK2 may be a future target for cervical cancer therapy.

Silver doped TiO2 (Ag-TiO2) materials show high activity and good stability in photocatalysis, but the mechanism could not be illustrated clearly due to their imprecise and inhomogeneous characteristics. Ag-doped titanium-oxo clusters (Ag-TOCs) with an exact crystal structure, which are rarely reported, are beneficial for further understanding structure-property relationships. Herein, six new Ag-TOCs with a butterfly-like Ti8Ag2 core have been synthesized through facile solvothermal reactions, in which two Ag ions are successfully linked to the surface of the Ti8 core. Of interest, the Ti6 unit of the Ti8Ag2 core is similar to that found in the anatase structure and may be a promising model for Ag-TiO2 materials. The band gaps of these Ag-TOCs show different values mainly affected by different ligands. DFT calculations revealed that the lowest energy bands of Ag-TOCs are attributed to the Ag-to-TiO core charge transfer bands. Additionally, all Ag-TOCs exhibit good photoelectric response and high photodegradation activity towards organic dyes.

These complexes were all characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography, elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy, luminescence and THz spectroscopy. Complexes 1 and 2 consist of 1D infinite zigzag chain structures which are linked by hydrogen bonds, while complexes 3, 5 and 7 have 2D topological architectures which are connected by hydrogen bonds, complex 4 has an annular structure and complex 6 is a mononuclear structure. The types of hydrogen bonds, choice of solvents and coordination modes of the ligands are of importance in defining the structural and topological features of the resulting networks. Furthermore, complexes 1–7 exhibit interesting luminescence in the solid state at room temperature. Complexes 1–3 can act as yellow luminophores, complex 4 acts as a red luminophore, complex 5 acts as an orange luminophore and complexes 6–7 act as green luminophores. Their terahertz spectra show more accurate characteristics of their structures.

A ratiometric fluorescent probe (DICX) based on Forster resonance energy transfer (FRET) system for hypochlorous acid (HOCl) was developed, in which coumarin moiety was connected to rhodamine by monothio-bishydrazide linker. DICX could fast respond to HOCl under acidic condition and showed high selectivity and sensitivity toward HOCl over other reactive oxygen species, reactive nitrogen species, and ions. The FRET energy transfer efficiency is very high (93.75%). Moreover, DICX could target lysosome and could be suitable for sensing exogenous and endogenous HOCl in living cells.

Background Few studies have investigated the association between puerperal women's living situation and postpartum depression. The aim of this study was to examine the association between living with parents or with parents-in-law and postpartum depression among Chinese puerperal women. Methods A total of 1126 participants who completed questionnaire were included in our analysis. Postpartum depression status was assessed using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale. Logistic regression models were used to estimate the association between living with puerperal women's parents or with parents-in-law and risk of postpartum depression after adjustment for potential confounders. Results The prevalence of postpartum depression among participants was 11.8%. Of the 1126 participants, 524 (46.5%) lived only with their husbands, 387 (34.4%) lived with their parents-in-law, and 215 (19.1%) lived with their parents. Compared with those living only with their husbands, puerperal women living with their parents-in-law had higher risk of postpartum depression after adjustment for potential confounders (OR=2.48; 95% CI: 1.20, 5.15). No association between living with puerperal women's parents and postpartum depression was found after adjustment for confounders (OR=1.05; 95%CI: 0.42, 2.65). Limitations Although we adjusted for a wide range of potential confounders, we cannot rule out the possibility of residual confounding by other unmeasured factors, such as breastfeeding, intimate partner violence, and marital relationship. Conclusions Our findings suggest that living with parents-in-law may be a risk factor for postpartum depression among Chinese puerperal women. Future preventive interventions should include strategies that target the puerperal women who lived with parents-in-law.

As one of the reactive oxygen species, hypochlorous acid (HOCl) may be associated with various diseases. To understand the roles of HOCl in living organism, fluorescent probes for imaging HOCl in living systems have been developed fast in recent years owing to their high selectivity, excellent sensitivity and spectral resolution. In this review, we summarized and highlighted the recent advances in the development and application of HOCl fluorescent probes. This review is focused on the detection mechanisms of probes for HOCl. According to the various recognition groups, we divided the HOCl fluorescence probes into five parts and discussed detection mechanisms, respectively.

This report described sample preparation methods that scanning and transmission electron microscope observations, demonstrated by preparing appendages of the woodboring beetle, Chlorophorus caragana Xie & Wang (2012), for both types of electron microscopy. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) sample preparation protocol was based on sample chemical fixation, dehydration in a series of ethanol baths, drying, and sputter-coating. By adding Tween 20 (Polyoxyethylene sorbitan laurate) to the fixative and the wash solution, the insect body surface of woodboring beetle was washed more cleanly in SEM. This study's transmission electron microscopy (TEM) sample preparation involved a series of steps including fixation, ethanol dehydration, embedding in resin, positioning using fluorescence microscopy, sectioning, and staining. Fixative with Tween 20 enabled penetrate the insect body wall of woodboring beetle more easily than it would had been without Tween 20, and subsequently better fixed tissues and organs in the body, thus yielded clear transmission electron microscope observations of insect sensilla ultrastructures. The next step of this preparation was determining the positions of insect sensilla in the sample embedded in the resin block by using fluorescence microscopy to increase the precision of target sensilla positioning. This improved slicing accuracy.

The calculation of the characteristics of energy storage components requires a large amount of historical data support, so it is necessary to store data for a long time and perform a large number of calculations; and the existing management system pursues high-precision, extremely simplified technical indicators, which cannot meet the demand. This design is based on ARM’s STM32F105RCT6 interconnect chip, which is used as the core part of the embedded device. It is equipped with the GPRS module of SIM900 for the device networking communication part, realizing the function of transferring the data of the energy storage system to the background remotely and solving a large amount of data transmission, storage, calculation problems.

Three new chlorophenolic glucosides, Curculigine M (1), Curculigine N (2) and Curculigine O (3) were isolated from the dried rhizomes of Curculigo orchioides Gaertn. Their structures were identified by means of spectroscopic methods such as 1D, 2D NMR and MS. These chlorophenolic glycosides were evaluated for effect on osteoblast proliferation against MC3T3-E1 cell line by using MTT assays. Compounds 1, 2 and 3 showed moderate effect on osteoblast proliferation with the proliferation rate of 11.2–15.9%.

The treatment of multiple myeloma (MM) with proteasome inhibitor (PI) bortezomib has significantly improved the survival of patients with MM. The 26S proteasome inhibitor targets the unfolded protein response (UPR) by inhibiting proteasome degradation of ubiquitinated paraprotein, subsequently leading to the lethal accumulation of paraprotein within the endoplasmic reticulum. According to secretory status of monoclonal immunoglobulin, newly diagnosed MM (NDMM) is divided into measurable and unmeasurable disease, which includes oligosecretory, nonsecretory, and nonproducer myeloma. The present study analyzed the clinical characteristics of 822 patients with NDMM who had either measurable or unmeasurable diseases and received bortezomib- or thalidomide-based therapies. Our results showed that the median progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) of patients with MM was significantly longer in patients with measurable disease than those in oligosecretory, nonsecretory, and nonproducer MM (PFS: 27, 18, 19, and 2.0 months, respectively [P < .001]; OS: 51, 30, 22, and 2.0 months, respectively [P < .001]). Within the unmeasurable group, patients with nonproducer myeloma showed the shortest PFS and OS. Importantly, compared with thalidomide treatment, bortezomib significantly improved the PFS and OS of patients with MM with measurable disease (PFS: 25 and 33 months [P = .022], respectively; OS: 41 and 58 months [P < .001], respectively), but not those with unmeasurable disease (PFS: 18 and 16 months [P = .617], respectively; OS: 22 and 27 months [P = .743], respectively). Our results indicate that bortezomib-based therapy performed no better than thalidomide-based treatment in patients with unmeasurable MM. The results need to be confirmed in other patient cohorts, preferably in the context of a prospective trial.

The efficient and flexible syntheses of 5,8-disubstituted indolizidine poisonous-frog alkaloids is described using a highly stereoselective Michael-type conjugate addition reaction as the key step. In this work, syntheses of the 5,8-disubstituted indolizidine poisonous-frog alkaloids (–)-231C, (–)-221I and the proposed structure for (–)-193E are reported.

Five novel silver(I) complexes and two copper(I) phosphine complexes containing the bis[2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl]ether ligand were synthesized and structurally characterized. Treatment of AgX/CuX and the bis[2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl]ether with N^N ligands afforded the silver(I) or copper(I) complexes {[Ag2(POP)2(dpa)(H2O)2](dpa)(ClO4)2}n (1), {[Ag(POP)(dpp)](ClO4)}n (2), [Ag2(POP)2(4,4′-bipy)(CH3CN)2](CF3SO3)2·CH3CN (3), {[Ag(POP)(dpe)](CF3SO3)·CH3CN}n (4), {[Ag2(POP)2(dpe)(H2O)2](dpe)(BF4)2}n (5), [Cu(POP)(bpy)](BF4) (6) and [Cu2(POP)2(4,4′-bipy)](CF3SO3)2·4CH3CN (7) {POP = bis[2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl]ether; dpp = 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane; dpa = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane; dpe = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethene; 4,4′-bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine; bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine}. These complexes are all characterized by IR, elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction, luminescence, 31P NMR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Complex 5 has an irregular (6,3) network structure connected through hydrogen bonds between the C–H groups of aromatic rings and anions; complexes 1 and 2 are of 2D topological architectures which are linked by hydrogen bonds; complex 4 is of a 1D infinite zigzag chain structure formed by the bridging ligand dpe; complexes 3 and 7 are of dinuclear structures and complex 6 is of mononuclear structure. The choice of solvent and the type and coordination modes of the bipyridine derivatives are of importance in defining the structural and topological features of the resulting networks. In addition, the complexes 1–7 exhibit interesting luminescence in the solid state at room temperature. At the same time, we also studied the terahertz spectrum which provided some new informations of these complexes.

A ratiometric fluorescence probe (CARSH) was designed on a novel FRET platform for HOCl. The novel platform enlarged spectral overlap between the donor emission band and the acceptor absorption band comparing to the traditional coumarin–rhodamine FRET platform, and the energy transfer reached up to 81.1%. The probe showed high selectivity, excellent sensitivity, fast response, good membrane permeability and stability.

Studies showed that the intravascular pH of neutrophils fell to 4.5–5.0 with stimulation for a few minutes. Under this condition, myeloperoxidase was activated to catalyze H2O2 and Cl− to form hypochlorous acid (HOCl). Therefore, it is of significance to develop fluorescence probes for sensing HOCl in acid conditions. In this work, we reported a ratiometric probe CRSH based on a fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) platform for detecting HOCl under acid conditions. Probe CRSH exhibited excellent sensitivity, high selectivity and a rapid response toward HOCl and is suitable for imaging endogenous HOCl in living cells.

The development of novel methods to obtain biofuels and chemicals from biomass has been an immediate issue in both academic and industrial communities. The present work introduces a new route to synthesize 5-hydroxymethyl furfural (5-HMF) in a one-vessel system through a tandem pathway involving decrystallization, depolymerization and conversion of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) in a molten hydrate solution. A 71.62 wt% ZnCl2 aqueous solution was employed as the reaction media and methylisobutylketone (MIBK) as the extracting solvent in the reaction system. A yield of 80.6 mol% of 5-HMF was obtained at 150 °C with a HCl concentration of 0.2 mol L−1 in the solution for 40 min. The aqueous phase can be reused without significant loss of catalytic activity.

A simple ratiometric probe (Naph-Rh) has been designed and synthesized based on a through-bond energy transfer (TBET) system for sensing HOCl. In this probe, rhodamine thiohydrazide and naphthalene formyl were connected by simple synthesis methods to construct a structure of monothio-bishydrazide. Free probe Naph-Rh showed only the emission of naphthalene. When probe Naph-Rh reacted with HOCl, monothio-bishydrazide could be converted into 1,2,4-oxadiazole, which not only ensured that the donor and the acceptor were connected with electronically conjugated bonds, but also resulted in the spiro-ring opening and the emission of rhodamine. Therefore, a typical TBET process took place. The probe possessed high-energy transfer efficiency and large pseudo-Stokes shifts. As the first TBET probe for HOCl, Naph-Rh showed excellent selectivity and sensitivity toward HOCl over other reactive oxygen species (ROS)/reactive nitrogen species (RNS), and could respond fast to a low concentration of HOCl in the real sample. In addition, the probe was suitable for imaging HOCl in living cells due to its real-time response, excellent resolution, and reduced cytotoxicity.

Three new labdane-type diterpenoids, callicapene M3-M5 (1–3) were isolated from the Callicarpa macrophylla Vahl. Their structures were identified by spectroscopic method. The isolated compounds were evaluated for inhibitory activity on NO production in LPS-activated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells by using MTT assays. Compounds 1–3 showed potent inhibitory activity, with IC50 value of 48.15, 46.31 and 38.72 μM respectively.

This work describes the synthesis and adsorption behavior of Fe 3 O 4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) modified with 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS) and poly-lysine (P-Lys). The magnetic nanoparticles were characterized by infra-red spectra, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. To understand the adsorption mechanism of the MNPs, we investigated anionic dye uptake capacity of Fe 3 O 4 @GPTMS@P-Lys as a function of contact time, dye concentration and pH. The MNPs could effectively remove anionic dyes including methyl blue (MB), orange I (OR-I), amaranth (AM) and acid red 18 (AR-18) from water solution. Furthermore, the improved adsorbent showed convenient separation and efficient reusability, and enhanced the adsorption capacity for anionic dyes.

Chlorophorus caragana (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) is a trunk borer that feeds on Caragana shrubs in the desert. There are five species of Caragana plant in the distribution area of Ch. caragana. We investigated damaged Caragana plants in the field. Olfactory responses of female Ch. caragana to plants and identified volatile compounds from Caragana plants were further evaluated. Caragana davazamcii was severely damaged in the field, followed by Caragana microphylla. No damage was found to the other three species. Behavioral experiments showed that C. davazamcii, C. microphylla, and Caragana korshinskii were attractive to female insects. Caragana ordosica could repel and avoid female insects. Caragana brachypoda had no effect on the orientation behavior of female insects. Chlorophorus caragana is a species of long-horned beetle that damages Caragana davazamcii Sancz. (Fabales: Papilionaceae) bushes in desert areas in China. The beetles cause substantial damage to local forestry plantations and the environment. Sensilla on the maxillary and labial palps of coleopterans a allow the insects to recognize their host plants. We used scanning and transmission electron microscopy to study the ultrastructure, distribution, and abundance of various sensilla on the maxillary and labial palps of C. caragana. We found four types of sensilla including ten subtypes: one of Bohm's bristles, three of sensilla chaetica, one of digitiform sensilla, and five of sensilla twig basiconica. The types and distribution of the sensilla on the maxillary and labial palps were highly similar between males and females. Finally, this article discusses the functions of the sensilla of related species in recognizing hosts and the significance of gustation studies in the context of the control of C. caragana.

The cumulative number of local confirmed cases was highly correlated with the total inflow population from Wuhan before the city closure, and the proportion of third-generation infections in a local region is tiny. Accordingly, we proposed an approximate method to quantitatively evaluate the regional control efficacy of COVID that takes into account effects of both imported cases and regional population. We applied this method to evaluate the control efficacy of the top-50 cities with maximum inflow population from Wuhan. The 10 cities with the most significant control efficacy are Shijiazhuang, Luoyang, Enshi, Zhoukou, Xiamen, Guiyang, Xianning, Anqing, Xinyang, and Nanning.

Based on density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we investigate the spin-related properties of spinless-hole injected organic molecule pentacene (Pc). DFT calculations reveal that there is spontaneous spin polarization in Pc when spinless-hole is injected. The charge-induced magnetic moment of Pc increases linearly with the increasing of the extra hole charge amount and its maximum can be up to 1 μB per injected spinless-hole per Pc molecule. The magnetic moment is expected due to the injected unpaired charge. The injected hole will preferably fill the spin-splitted carbon p z orbitals, which makes the Pc molecule spin polarize.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is the second most common hematologic malignancy characterized by the clonal expansion of plasma cells. Despite continuing advances, novel biomarkers are needed for diagnosis and prognosis of MM. In our study, we characterized the diagnostic and prognostic potential of circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) in MM. Serum miRNA levels were analyzed in 108 newly diagnosed symptomatic MM patients and 56 healthy donors (HDs). Our analysis identified 95 dysregulated miRNAs in newly diagnosed MM patients. Of the 95 dysregulated miRNAs, dysregulation of miR-19a, miR-92a, miR-214-3p, miR-135b-5p, miR-4254, miR-3658 and miR-33b was confirmed by quantitative reverse transcription PCR (RT-qPCR). Receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed that a combination of miR-19a and miR-4254 can distinguish MM from HD with a sensitivity of 91.7% and specificity of 90.5%. Decreased expression of miR-19a was positively correlated with international staging system advancement, del(13q14) and 1q21 amplification. Furthermore, downregulation of miR-19a resulted in significantly decreased progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Our analysis indicated that the poor prognostic correlation of miR-19a expression was independent of genetic abnormalities in MM. Multivariate analysis revealed that miR-19a was a significant predictor of shortened PFS and OS. Interestingly, although miR-19a levels portend a poor prognosis, patients with low miR-19a levels had an improved response to bortezomib compared to those with high miR-19a profile. Patients with downregulated miR-19a experienced a significantly extended survival upon bortezomib-based therapy. These data demonstrate that the expression patterns of serum microRNAs are altered in MM, and miR-19a levels are a valuable prognostic marker to identify high-risk MM.

A novel compound, 2-(1,5-diphenyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)phenyl acrylate (probe L), was designed and synthesized as a highly sensitive and selective fluorescent probe for recognizing and detecting glutathione among cysteine, homocysteine and other amino acids. The structures of related compounds were characterized using IR, NMR and HRMS spectroscopy analysis. The probe is a non-fluorescent compound. On being mixed with glutathione in buffered EtOH:PBS=3:7 solution at pH 7.4, the probe exhibited the blue emission of the pyrazoline at 474 nm and a 83-fold enhancement in fluorescence intensity. This probe is very sensitive and displayed a linear fluorescence off-on response to glutathione with fluorometric detection limit of 8.2 × 10(-8)M. The emission of the probe is pH independent in the physiological pH range. Live-cell imaging of HeLa cells confirmed the cell permeability of the probe and its ability to selectively discriminate GSH from Cys and Hcy in cells. The toxicity of the probe was low in cultured HeLa cells.

Novel Fe 3 O 4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) modified with low toxic 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS) and lysine (Lys) were synthesized. The MNPs were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, infra-red spectra and thermogravimetric analysis. The MNPs were used to remove anionic dyes and cationic dyes, including methyl blue (MB), orange I (OR), acid red 18 (AR) and methylene blue (MEB), azure I (AZ), from aqueous solution. We investigated organic dye uptake capacity of Fe 3 O 4 @GPTMS@Lys as a function of contact time, dye concentration, and different pH. Furthermore, adsorption isotherms and kinetics were studied to understand the mechanism by which the MNPs adsorb dyes. To our delight, the improved adsorbent can not only enhance the maximum adsorption capacity for anionic dyes but also efficiently remove cationic dyes (AZ and MEB) from aqueous solution.

The magnetic nanoparticles which can excellently remove both anionic and cationic dyes in severe environment (highly acidic or strong alkaline) were synthesized by a simple method. The MNPs were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction, infra-red (IR) spectra, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). We investigated organic dye uptake capacity of Fe3O4@GPTMS@Gly as a function of contact time, dye concentration and pH. Furthermore, adsorption isotherms and kinetics were studied to understand the adsorption mechanism of the MNPs. In addition, desorption of the MNPs was carried out by adjusting pH with HCl or NaOH solution. The adsorbent can effectively remove both anionic and cationic dyes from aqueous solution and shows reusability and high separation efficiency.

Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) modified with aminoguanidine (AG) were synthesized and characterized with transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and infra-red spectra (IR). Adsorption of acid dyes onto this new adsorbent was further studied in terms of pH, contact time and initial dye concentration. Maximum adsorption capacity reached from pH 1.3 to 2.5 for different dyes. The adsorption can be better described by pseudo-second-order kinetic model compared to pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The adsorption behavior fits quite well with the Langmuir rather than the Freundlich model. The mean energy of adsorption (E) calculated from the Dubinin–Radushkevich (D–R) isotherm model confirmed the involvement of chemical adsorption. This adsorbent could remove acid dyes with different structures rapidly with high adsorption capacity. Moreover, the adsorbent possesses good reusability.

The scattering waves by two elastic spheres in solid are studied. The incident wave, the scattering waves in the host and the transmitted waves in the elastic spheres are all expanded in the series form of spherical wave functions. The total waves are obtained by addition of all scattered waves from individual elastic sphere. The addition theorem of spherical wave function is used to perform the coordinates transform for the scattering waves from different spheres. The expansion coefficients of scattering waves are determined by the interface condition between the elastic spheres and the solid host. The scattering cross section is computed as numerical examples.

Cu2ZnSnS4(CZTS) thin film was successfully prepared by pulsed laser deposition using CZTS nanocrystal as a source and the thin film solar cell with the novel structure of FTO/CdS/CZTS/Mo was assembled. At the laser incident energy of 6 J·cm-2, the chemical composition of the CZTS thin film was Cu1.74Zn0.80Sn1.00S4.04,near to stoichiometric ratio. The thin film solar cell with the novel structure of FTO/CdS/CZTS/Mo gave short circuit photocurrent density of 1.01 mA·cm-2, open circuit voltage of 0.39 V, and fill factor of 0.485, corresponding to the photoelectric conversion efficiency of 0.19% at the illumination (Air Mass 1.5, 100 mW·cm-2).
