2. A Survey of Automatic Generation of Source Code Comments: Algorithms and Techniques

Abstract

As an integral part of source code files, code comments help improve program readability and comprehension. However, developers sometimes do not comment on their program code adequately due to the incurred extra efforts, lack of relevant knowledge, unawareness of the importance of code commenting or some other factors. As a result, code comments can be inadequate, absent or even mismatched with source code, which affects the understanding, reusing and the maintenance of software. To solve these problems of code comments, researchers have been concerned with generating code comments automatically. In this work, we aim at conducting a survey of automatic code commenting researches. First, we generally analyze the challenges and research framework of automatic generation of program comments. Second, we present the classification of representative algorithms, the design principles, strengths and weaknesses of each category of algorithms. Meanwhile, we also provide an overview of the quality assessment of the generated comments. Finally, we summarize some future directions for advancing the techniques of automatic generation of code comments and the quality assessment of comments., Comment: 22 pages, 5 figures

48. Metachronous pancreatic head ductal carcinoma three years after resection of gallbladder cancer

Abstract

We report a rare case of female patient with metachronous gallbladder cancer and pancreatic head ductal carcinoma. At the age of 53 years, the patient underwent a cholecystectomy and resection of the liver bed for gallbladder cancer. The post-operation diagnosis was a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma with serosa involvement(T3N0M0, stage IIA). Three years later, an irregular and enhanced 2.4 cm mass in the pancreatic head with obviously pancreatic duct dilated was found by abdominal imaging. We considered it as pancreatic head cancer and performed pancreaticoduodenectomy. The histological diagnosis was a pancreatic ductal carcinoma (T2N0M0, stage I). No recurrence was found after thirty-three months follow up.

Abstract

Background: Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy (LDP) showed advantage of perioperation outcomes for benign and low-grade tumor of the pancreas. The application of LDP for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) didn't gain popular acceptance and the number of LDP for PDAC remains low. We designed a case-matched study to analysis the short- and long-term outcomes of the patients undergoing either Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy or open distal pancreatectomy for PDAC.Method: From 2003 to 2013, 17 patients were underwent LDP and 34 patients were underwent ODP for PDAC were matched by tumor size, age and body mass index (BMI). The two groups' demographic information, perioperative outcomes and survival data were compared.Results: Baseline characteristics were comparable between the LDP and ODP groups. The intraoperative blood loss, first flatus, first oral intake and postoperative hospital stay were significantly less in LDP group than ODP group (50 ml vs400ml, P = 0.000; 3d vs 4d, P = 0.001; 3d vs 4d, P = 0.003; 13d vs 15.5d, P = 0.022). The mean operation time, overall postoperative morbidity and postoperative pancreatic fistula rates were similar in the two groups. 5 patients (29.4 %) in LDP group and 7 patients (20.6 %) in ODP group underwent extended resections. There were no significant differences in tumor sizes (3.5 cm vs 3.9 cm, P = 0.664) and number of harvested lymph nodes (9 vs8 P = 0.534). The median overall survival for both groups was 14.0 months. Cox proportional hazards analysis showed extended resections, R1 resection, perineural invasion and tumor differentiation were associated with worse survival.Conclusion: LDP is technically feasible and safe for PDAC in selected patients and the short-term oncologic outcomes were not inferior to ODP in this small sample study. However the long-term oncologic safety of LDP for PDAC has to be further evaluated by multicenter or randomized controlled trials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
