Traditional culture of settlement is an important medium to record the process of balance between human and nature, and it was passed down from generation to generation in different forms (e.g. sacrificial culture, social structure, belief worship). With the intensification of global multicultural integration, the integration relationship between culture and nature has become an important approach for the protection and inheritance of traditional culture. Now, the relationship between artistic creation and ecological environment has been extensively studied. The scientific consensus regarding the influence of ecological environment on artistic creation has gained widespread recognition. Nevertheless, previous research neglects the relationship of traditional culture and natural environment, as well as different spatial characteristics, which are closely related to agricultural production and living. Based on the in-depth investigation of 23 traditional settlements of Yi minority in Southwest China, this paper conducted spatial analysis based on aerial photography, satellite maps and field investigation to analyze the relationship of culture-environment-space. Our results showed that there are significant differences in settlement space (e.g. landscape pattern, landscape space, architectural form) of Yi minority distributed in different areas. Under the same cultural background, the dispersed layout appears in Liangshan with high altitude and cold climate; the mountain foot layout appears in Central Yunnan and Northwest Guizhou with flat terrain and mild climate; the centralized layout appears in Honghe with narrow valleys and hot climate. These results shows that traditional culture comes from the natural environment, and the settlement space built under the guidance of the traditional culture must be in harmony with the natural environment. Therefore, protecting the traditional culture plays an important role in the sustainable development of urban and rural settlements. In addition, our findings may serve to inheritance and protection of traditional culture in other area all over the world.

This study aimed to investigate Solanum lyratum Thunb. with respect to the potential ingredients with anti-inflammatory activity from its essential oil by silico study. To this regard, the essential oil of Solanum lyratum Thunb. was extracted by hydrodistillation. 25 compounds were identified by GC-MS. Using virtual screening, molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation of the 25 identified compounds, the ones showing anti-inflammatory activity on COX-2 were identified. According to the drug-like principle and the prediction of ADEMT properties, the six compounds of Spathulenol, Cedrol, Juniper camphor, Santalol, Nootkatone and 7,9-Di-tert-butyl-1-oxaspiro[4.5]deca-6,9-diene-2,8-dione were identified and then studied for molecular docking, and based on which the top two compounds of binding free energy were studied by the molecular dynamics simulation. The molecular docking data indicated that the binding free energies of Spathulenol, Cedrol, Juniper camphor, Santalol, Nootkatone and 7,9-Di-tert-butyl-1-oxaspiro[4.5]deca-6,9-diene-2,8-dione to COX-2 protein were −5.65, −7.19, −6.35, −4.94, −5.82 and −5.14 kcal/mol, respectively. The findings showed the steady interactions of hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic bonds between both the top two compounds of binding free energy and the active site residues of COX-2 (4M11) throughout the simulation via hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic bonds. The very study shall be supportive for in vitro and in vivo studies in developing drug products using the lead bioactive ingredients for anti-inflammatory in the future.

Amdo Tibetans are an important part of the three major Tibetan areas in western Sichuan. Their production and life style rooted in the Ruoergai grassland pastoral area is significantly different from that of Kangba Tibetans and Jiarong Tibetans, which are widely distributed in the valley areas. However, due to the relatively small population size and distribution range, there is still a lack of research on the space of multi-Tibetan settlements in western Sichuan, which makes the unique spatial characteristics of grassland dwellings and their generation logic unclear. Based on a large number of literature studies and field investigations, this paper systematically analyzes its location pattern, spatial layout and material application from the perspective of ecological wisdom through spatial analysis, comparative analysis and other methods. The results show that there are obvious differences in spatial form between the Tibetan dwellings in Anduo grassland in western Sichuan and the Tibetan settlements in Kangba and Jiarong. The scattered siting model is used to cope with the impact of bad climate and the characteristics of widely dispersed production factors. The diversified, specialized and open yard space layout is adapted to the production mode of pastoral areas. Local materials such as manure are used to build settlement space according to local conditions. This study reveals the spatial characteristics and environmental adaptation wisdom of multi-Tibetan grassland dwellings in western Sichuan, complements and improves the Tibetan research system and content in western Sichuan, and provides theoretical guidance for the healthy and sustainable development of multi-Tibetan settlements in western Sichuan.

ObjectiveTo develop a CT-based nomogram to predict the response of advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) to neoadjuvant chemotherapy plus immunotherapy.MethodsIn this retrospective study, 158 consecutive patients with advanced ESCC receiving contrast-enhanced CT before neoadjuvant chemotherapy plus immunotherapy were randomized to a training cohort (TC, n = 121) and a validation cohort (VC, n = 37). Response to treatment was assessed with response evaluation criteria in solid tumors. Patients in the TC were divided into the responder (n = 69) and non-responder (n = 52) groups. For the TC, univariate analyses were performed to confirm factors associated with response prediction, and binary analyses were performed to identify independent variables to develop a nomogram. In both the TC and VC, the nomogram performance was assessed by area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), calibration slope, and decision curve analysis (DCA).ResultsIn the TC, univariate analysis showed that cT stage, cN stage, gross tumor volume, gross volume of all enlarged lymph nodes, and tumor length were associated with the response (all P < 0.05). Binary analysis demonstrated that cT stage, cN stage, and tumor length were independent predictors. The independent factors were imported into the R software to construct a nomogram, showing the discriminatory ability with an AUC of 0.813 (95% confidence interval: 0.735–0.890), and the calibration curve and DCA showed that the predictive ability of the nomogram was in good agreement with the actual observation.ConclusionThis study provides an accurate nomogram to predict the response of advanced ESCC to neoadjuvant chemotherapy plus immunotherapy.

The effects of biogas residue as a substrate on ginseng growth and its feasibility for ginseng cultivation are unclear. The present study used biogas residue at different concentrations and maturity levels to cultivate ginseng. The biological characteristics of ginseng, soil physiochemical indices, and ginseng and soil microbial communities were investigated. The results showed that with increasing ginseng content and maturity, the total fresh weight, total length and saponin content significantly increased. The enzyme activities of soil, NO3--N, and available phosphorus also increased. The microbiome analysis revealed that with the addition of biogas residue, microorganisms related to plant growth promotion, such as Chloroflexi, Gemmatimonadota and Mortierellomycota, were more common in the plant or rhizosphere soil. The results based on the co-occurrence network showed that the structure of the bacterial community was more stable than that of the fungal community with increasing biogas residue content. Our results indicated that biogas residue could be used as a ginseng cultivation substrate and promote growth.

Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), as a group of persistent organic pollutants among environmental endocrine disruptors, are widely used in industrial production and daily life. PFASs are widely and persistently present in the environment and organisms due to their bioaccumulation, long half-life, and low degradability properties. Published studies have proved that PFASs have immunotoxicity, endocrine toxicity, neurotoxicity, reproductive toxicity, and hepatotoxicity. At present, several epidemiological studies have been conducted on the effects of PFASs on allergic diseases, the research endpoints include asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, and the expression of allergic biomarkers such as serum immunoglobulin E (IgE), but no consistent results have been observed yet. PFASs have the potential to activate several signaling pathways, including the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR), nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), and JAK/STAT pathways. These mechanisms, along with increasing mast cell calcium influx and sex hormone synergistic effects, may contribute to immunomodulation in allergic diseases. At present, the exact human effect of PFASs exposure on allergic diseases and the related mechanisms are still uncertain. This review focused on the impacts of PFASs on asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis and their possible mechanisms, so as to provide research ideas for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of allergic diseases.

Abstract Deep learning approaches to interactive image segmentation are typically formulated as a binary labeling problem. A model trained to make predictions within a fixed set of labels (i.e., foreground and background labels) cannot be used to directly predict the binary masks of multiple objects of interest, which greatly limits its flexibility and adaptivity. The use of different classes of clicks as input is opted for and the first end‐to‐end learning model for multi‐object segmentation, based on a new designed neural network, is developed. The network consists of a visual feature extractor, a recurrent attention module and a dynamic segmentation head, extracts user click‐adapted appearance embedding features and spatial attention features, and then learns to transform this information into a segmentation of multiple objects. It is also proposed to train the network using a joint loss function, taking the embedding learning into account for segmentation. Comprehensive experiments are conducted on three benchmark datasets to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. It performs favorably against state‐of‐the‐art approaches on the multiple object segmentation task, for example, with 0.15 s per image, 0.06 s per object and mean IoU & F1 score of 84.90% on Pascal VOC 2012 validation set. It is further shown that the method can be used in numerous vision applications such as image recoloring and colorization.

Abstract Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most frequent subtype of lung cancer globally. However, the survival rate of lung adenocarcinoma patients remains low. Immune checkpoints and long noncoding RNAs are emerging as vital tools for predicting the immunotherapeutic response and outcomes of patients with lung adenocarcinoma. It is critical to identify lncRNAs associated with immune checkpoints in lung adenocarcinoma patients. In this study, immune checkpoint-related lncRNAs (IClncRNAs) were analysed and identified by coexpression. Based on the immune checkpoint-related lncRNAs, we divided patients with lung adenocarcinoma into two clusters and constructed a risk model. Kaplan–Meier analysis, Gene Set Enrichment Analysis, and nomogram analysis of the 2 clusters and the risk model were performed. Finally, the potential immunotherapeutic prediction value of this model was discussed. The risk model consisting of 6 immune checkpoint-related lncRNAs was an independent predictor of survival. Through regrouping the patients with this model, we can distinguish between them more effectively in terms of their immunotherapeutic response, tumour microenvironment, and chemotherapy response. This risk model based on immune checkpoint-based lncRNAs may have an excellent clinical value for predicting the immunotherapeutic response and outcomes of patients with LUAD.

BackgroundEthiopia is one of the African countries where Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax co-exist. Monitoring and evaluation of current malaria transmission status is an important component of malaria control as it is a measure of the success of ongoing interventions and guides the planning of future control and elimination efforts.Main textWe evaluated changes in malaria control policy in Ethiopia, and reviewed dynamics of country-wide confirmed and clinical malaria cases by Plasmodium species and reported deaths for all ages and less than five years from 2001 to 2016. Districts level annual parasite incidence was analysed to characterize the malaria transmission stratification as implemented by the Ministry of Health. We found that Ethiopia has experienced major changes from 2003 to 2005 and subsequent adjustment in malaria diagnosis, treatment and vector control policy. Malaria interventions have been intensified represented by the increased insecticide treated net (ITN) and indoor residual spraying (IRS) coverage, improved health services and improved malaria diagnosis. However, countrywide ITN and IRS coverages were low, with 64% ITN coverage in 2016 and IRS coverage of 92.5% in 2016 and only implemented in epidemic-prone areas of > 2500 m elevation. Clinical malaria incidence rate dropped from an average of 43.1 cases per 1000 population annually between 2001 and 2010 to 29.0 cases per 1000 population annually between 2011 and 2016. Malaria deaths decreased from 2.1 deaths per 100 000 people annually between 2001 and 2010 to 1.1 deaths per 100 000 people annually between 2011 to 2016. There was shrinkage in the malaria transmission map and high transmission is limited mainly to the western international border area. Proportion of P. falciparum malaria remained nearly unchanged from 2000 to 2016 indicating further efforts are needed to suppress transmission.ConclusionsMalaria morbidity and mortality have been significantly reduced in Ethiopia since 2001, however, malaria case incidence is still high, and there were major gaps between ITN ownership and compliance in malarious areas. Additional efforts are needed to target the high transmission area of western Ethiopia to sustain the achievements made to date.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a serious mental disease characterized by depressed mood, loss of interest and suicidal ideation. Its rising prevalence has rendered MDD one of the largest contributors to the global disease burden. However, its pathophysiological mechanism is still unclear, and reliable biomarkers are lacking. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are widely considered important mediators of intercellular communication, playing an important role in many physiological and pathological processes. Most preclinical studies focus on the related proteins and microRNAs in EVs, which can regulate energy metabolism, neurogenesis, neuro-inflammation and other pathophysiological processes in the development of MDD. The purpose of this review is to describe the current research progress of EVs in MDD and highlight their potential roles as biomarkers, therapeutic indicators and drug delivery carriers for the treatment of MDD.

Asparagus cochinchinensis is a member of the Asparagaceae family whose medicinal part is the dried root tuber. The distribution of A. cochinchinensis and its secondary metabolites are closely associated with environmental factors, such as climate and soil properties. By establishing and optimizing a maximum entropy model, we analyzed and predicted the distribution pattern and migration direction of suitable habitats for A. cochinchinensis and determined the main environmental factors affecting the accumulation of secondary metabolites. Under current climatic conditions, the area of suitable habitats for A. cochinchinensis (208.38 × 104 km2) accounts for 21.71% of the land area of China, and the areas of lowly, moderately, and highly suitable areas were 64.15 × 104 km2, 113.66 × 104 km2, and 30.57 × 104 km2, respectively. Under future climate scenarios, the total area of suitable habitats hardly changes. The area of highly suitable habitats significantly decreases under the SSP1‐RCP2.6 scenario (to 83.22% of the current value) and the SSP3‐RCP7 scenario (to 48.94% of the current value), but eventually increases to 112.86% of the current value under the SSP5‐RCP8.5 scenario, which indicates that A. cochinchinensis might adapt better to a high‐carbon‐emissions scenario. Under different climate scenarios, low‐impact areas mainly occur in southern China and will correspond 92.07% of the current suitable area. Highly suitable habitats primarily occur in the southeastern Sichuan Basin, northern Guangxi, eastern Guizhou, and western Hunan. HPLC analysis showed that the content of protodioscin (0.373%) and protogracillin (0.044%) in S2 was the highest. The total saponins contents of S1 and S2 were the highest, which were 35.6586 and 33.1262 mg/g, respectively. The total polysaccharide content of S9 was the highest (16.9467%). The total contents of saponins and polysaccharides in A. cochinchinensis were significantly, but oppositely, correlated with temperature, precipitation, and other factors. This study has identified environmental factors affecting the growth and quality of A. cochinchinensis, which has guiding significance for resource conservation and site selection for large‐scale cultivation. The intraplatform shoal dolomite of the Middle Permian Qixia Formation is currently considered the key target of hydrocarbon exploration in the central Sichuan Basin. To systematically investigate the origin of the stratabound facies-controlled porous dolomites of the Qixia Formation, integrated petrography, logging and seismic analysis were carried out in this work. The results are as following: (1) the dolomite reservoir is universal in the central Sichuan Basin, and its distribution is controlled by intraplatform shoals, with multilayer superposition vertically. Thick massive dolostone may also develop along with the fault. (2) Three replaced dolomites and one dolomite cement were identified: very finely to finely crystalline, anhedral to subhedral dolomite (Rd1); finely to medium crystalline, anhedral to subhedral dolomite (Rd2); coarsely crystalline, subhedral to euhedral dolomite (Rd3) and coarsely crystalline saddle dolomite cement (Sd). Rd2 and Rd3 are partly fabric-retentive, and preserve the original bioclastic ghosts. Sd shows wavy extinction, filled in the breccia veins. (3) The U-Pb dating and homogenization temperatures results indicate that the dolomite and Sd cement are associated with hydrothermal event during the Emeishan large igneous province. The δ13C, 87Sr/86Sr, and seawater-like REEY patterns suggest that the dolomitization and Sd precipitation fluids originate from connate seawater heated by elevated heat-flow. (4) The ELIP triggered large scale thermal anomalies in the basin during the Dongwu movement period. The increased temperature and pressure drove the formation water in the intra-platform shoal facies and overcame the binding effect of Mg2+ hydrate. Moreover, the deep hydrothermal fluid preferentially penetrated into the porous strata of shoal facies along the faults and fractures, mixed with formation water to some extent, and extensive dolomitization occurred. The facies-controlled dolomite reservoir and the underlying Cambrian source rock form a good source-reservoir assemblage, which can be a key replacement option. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic has become a global health catastrophe. By far, there has been no specific antiviral treatment for COVID-19. Developing a vaccine against COVID-19 appeared to be the most cost-effective strategy to stop the repeated outbreak. This study aimed to investigate the attitudes of psychiatric patients with regards to COVID-19 vaccination and potential factors that might influence their decision-making process. Methods Psychiatric patients participated in this cross-sectional survey in China. Family caregivers, usually a guardian or next of kin completed the questionnaire when the patient is unable to consent. Data was collected via an online self-administered questionnaire. This questionnaire focused on four main attributes: (1) sociology-demographic characteristics, such as age and sex; (2) questions relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, such as perceived risk of COVID-19; (3) Flu vaccination history; and (4) attitude towards COVID-19 vaccination and affected factors, such as preferred vaccine type and vaccination site. The associated factors that influenced vaccination acceptance were analyzed by Chi-square analysis and binary logistic regression. Results In total, 416 individuals were recruited, from which 408: 229 patients and 179 family caregivers completed the online survey (response rate: 98.1%). 78.7% of the participants (178 patients and 143 family caregivers) said they intended to receive vaccination once the COVID-19 vaccine became available on the market. Our results showed that participants would have a greater likelihood of joining the COVID-9 immunization programme if the people they knew (community residents or their friends and relatives) presented with high vaccine coverage (OR = 0.24; 95% CI:0.09–0.59). If the pandemic returns, participants were also more likely to accept vaccination (OR = 0.21; 95% CI:0.07–0.62). Moreover, those who believed that the vaccination was an important way to control the COVID-19 pandemic also showed a tendency to receive vaccination (OR = 0.21; 95% CI:0.11–0.40). For those who did not intend to get vaccinated either for themselves or their psychiatric family member, the safety of vaccine was their main concern (71.3%). Conclusions This study showed a high acceptance rate for COVID-19 vaccination amongst psychiatric patients, while worries about the safety of vaccine led to refusal towards vaccination. To increase vaccination uptake amongst this vulnerable group, the public health messaging should include updated vaccination coverage in local communities, and the number of newly COVID-19 infected cases. Specific information about vaccine safety concerning psychiatric patients; as well as the importance of vaccination in controlling the pandemic should be explained in detail.

Polyploid rice and its reverted diploid show rich phenotypic variation and strong heterosis, showing great breeding value. However, the genomic differences among tetraploids, counterpart common diploids, tetraploid-revertant diploids, and hybrid descendants are unclear. In this work, we bred a new excellent two-line hybrid rice variety, Y Liang You Duo Hui 14 (HTRM12), using Haitian tetraploid self-reverted diploid (HTRM2). Furthermore, we comparatively analyzed the important agronomic traits and genome-wide variations of those closest relatives, Haitian diploid (HT2), Haitian tetraploid (HT4), HTRM2, and HTRM12 in detail, based on multiple phenotypic investigations, genome resequencing, and bioinformatics analysis. The results of agronomic traits analysis and genome-wide variation analysis of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), insertion–deletion (InDel), and copy number variation (CNV) show that HT4 and HTRM2 had abundant phenotypic and genomic variations compared to HT2. HTRM2 can inherit important traits and variations from HT4. This implies that tetraploid self-reverted diploid has high potential in creating excellent breeding materials and in breeding breakthrough hybrid rice varieties. Our study verifies the feasibility that polyploid rice could be used as a mutation carrier for creating variations and provides genomic information, new breeding materials, and a new way of application for tetraploid rice breeding. BackgroundThe incidence of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) in children and adolescents has increased, but the data on long-term outcomes are limited. There are few literatures on the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of PTC in children and adolescents in China. Therefore, it is necessary to identify clinicopathological features to precisely predict clinical prognosis and to help choose the optimal method and perform the best therapeutic regimen.MethodsThis study was a retrospective analysis of patients undergoing thyroidectomy at Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital. We analyzed the factors related to the clinicopathological features and prognosis of PTC in children and adolescents.ResultsA total of 95 juvenile PTC patients who underwent thyroidectomy were enrolled. Our research found that patients with younger age (2 cm, T stage, and multifocality were the risk factors for LNM and the number of LNM (p < 0.05). Multivariate analysis displayed the number of central LNM as the independent risk factor for lateral LNM, and multifocality was the independent risk factor for the number of central and lateral LNM. Younger age at diagnosis, positive preoperative thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), maximal tumor size >2 cm, lateral LNM, number of LNM, N staging, and American Thyroid Association (ATA) pediatric risk were related to poor prognosis in PTC patients (p < 0.05). Cox regression analysis found that younger age at diagnosis and positive preoperative TSH were independent risk factors for recurrence of PTC in children and adolescents.ConclusionsOur study showed that the clinicopathological characteristics of younger age compared with older age were as follows: highly aggressive, prone to metastases, and higher recurrence rate. In our opinion, patients with characteristics such as younger age at diagnosis, positive preoperative TSH, maximal tumor size >2 cm, lateral LNM, and number of LNM >5 may be considered for prophylactic or therapeutic dissection of additional metastatic LNs by high-volume surgeons to prevent and reduce the recurrence rate of patients during long-term follow-up.

Due to the highly non-linear nature of traffic data and the complex structure of road networks, traffic forecasting faces significant challenges. In this paper, we propose an improved model that combines outlook attention and graph embedding (MOAGE) for traffic forecasting, focusing on the construction of reasonable and effective spatio-temporal dependencies. Inspired by the idea of symmetry, MOAGE adopts a symmetrical encoder and decoder structure. Outlook attention blocks are important components of the encoder and decoder, consisting of spatial outlook attention and temporal outlook attention, used to model spatio-temporal dependencies in the road network. Cross attention are added to the model to reduce propagation errors. In addition, we learned the vertex representation of the graph via the node2vec algorithm and integrated the graph information into our model for a better prediction performance. Extensive experiments on two real datasets further demonstrate that the RMSE errors of the MOAGE on PEMS_BAY and METR_LA are reduced by approximately 14.6% and 12.2% for 60 min compared with the latest baseline models. Finally, the methodology used in this study will provide guidance to relevant ministries to better allocate transport resources and improve the efficiency and safety of traffic operations.

The traditional Fast Marching Method (FMM) based on the finite-difference scheme can solve the traveltime of first arrivals; however, the accuracy and efficiency of FMM are usually affected by the finite-difference schemes and grid size. The Vidale finite-difference scheme and double-grid technology are adopted to replace the traditional first-order and second-order finite-difference schemes in this paper to improve the computation accuracy and efficiency. The traditional FMM does not provide the corresponding raypath calculation methods, and in view of the interoperability of FMM and the linear travel time interpolation (LTI) method, we introduce the linear interpolation method into FMM ray tracing to compute the raypath and take into consideration the secondary source located inside the grid cell to improve the accuracy and stability of the raypath calculation. With these measures and the application of the multistage approach, we successfully completed the improved Multistage FMM (MFMM) ray tracing, which can track first arrivals and any type of primary and multiple reflection waves. Through the theoretical and actual field model tests, the computation accuracy and efficiency of the improved MFMM are proven to be higher than that under traditional first-order and second-order finite-difference schemes, the correctness and effectiveness of the interpolation method for raypath calculation are verified, and the improved MFMM has demonstrated good adaptability and stability for complex models. The improvements for the MFMM in this paper are successfully applied in two-dimensional cases and need to be extended to three-dimensional situations.
