We simulated the growth of 2D islands with 2 kinds of diffusion atoms using the kinetic Monte- Carlo (kMC) method. As a result, we found that the slow atoms tend to create nuclei and determine the island volume distribution, along with additional properties such as island density. We also conducted a theoretical analysis using the rate equation of the point-island model to confirm these results., Comment: 4pages,4figures

We report the temperature-pressure-magnetic field phase diagram made from electrical resistivity measurements for the ferromagnetic (FM) Kondo lattice CeRuPO. The ground state at zero field changes from the FM state to another state, which is suggested to be an antiferromagnetic (AFM) state, above ~0.7 GPa, and the magnetically ordered state is completely suppressed at ~2.8 GPa. In addition to the collapse of the AFM state under pressure and a magnetic field, a metamagnetic (MM) transition from a paramagnetic state to a polarized paramagnetic state appears. CeRuPO will give us a rich playground for understanding the mechanism of the MM transition under comparable FM and AFM correlations in the Kondo lattice., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, to appear in J. Using stacks of Ly-a images of 2128 Ly-a emitters (LAEs) and 24 protocluster UV-selected galaxies (LBGs) at z=3.1, we examine the surface brightness profiles of Ly-a haloes around high-z galaxies as a function of environment and UV luminosity. We find that the slopes of the Ly-a radial profiles become flatter as the Mpc-scale LAE surface densities increase, but they are almost independent of the central UV luminosities. The characteristic exponential scale lengths of the Ly-a haloes appear to be proportional to the square of the LAE surface densities (r(Lya) \propto Sigma(LAE)^2). Including the diffuse, extended Ly-a haloes, the rest-frame Ly-a equivalent width of the LAEs in the densest regions approaches EW_0(Lya) ~ 200 A, the maximum value expected for young (< 10^7 yr) galaxies. This suggests that Ly-a photons formed via shock compression by gas outflows or cooling radiation by gravitational gas inflows may partly contribute to illuminate the Ly-a haloes; however, most of their Ly-a luminosity can be explained by photo-ionisation by ionising photons or scattering of Ly-a photons produced in HII regions in and around the central galaxies. Regardless of the source of Ly-a photons, if the Ly-a haloes trace the overall gaseous structure following the dark matter distributions, it is not surprising that the Ly-a spatial extents depend more strongly on the surrounding Mpc-scale environment than on the activities of the central galaxies., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

We present the results of the extensive narrow-band survey of Ly\alpha\ emission-line objects at z=3.1 in the 1.38 deg^2 area surrounding the high density region of star-forming galaxies at z=3.09 in the SSA22 field, as well as in the 1.04 deg^2 area of the three separated general blank fields. In total of 2161 Ly\alpha\ emitters, 1394 in the SSA22 fields and 767 in the general fields, respectively, are detected to the narrow-band AB magnitude limit of 25.73, which corresponds to the line flux of 1.8 x 10^{-17} erg s^{-1} cm^{-2} or luminosity of 1.5 x 10^{42} erg s^{-1} at z=3.1, above the observed equivalent width threshold, 190\AA . The average surface number density of the emitters at z=3.1 in the whole general fields above the thresholds is 0.20+-0.01 arcmin^{-2}. The SSA22 high-density region at z=3.09 whose peak local density is 6 times the average is found to be the most prominent outstanding structure in the whole surveyed area and is firmly identified as a robust `protocluster' with the enough large sample. We also compared the overdensity of the 100 arcmin^2 and 700 arcmin^2 areas which contain the protocluster with the expected fluctuation of the dark matter as well as those of the model galaxies in cosmological simulations. We found that the peak height values of the overdensity correspond to be 8-10 times and 3-4 times of the expected standard deviations of the counts of Ly\alpha emitters at z=3.1 in the corresponding volume, respectively. We conclude that the structure at z=3.09 in the SSA22 field is a very significant and rare density peak up to the scale of 60 Mpc., Comment: 15pages, accepted for publication Astronomical Journal

We present results of a survey for giant Ly-alpha nebulae (LABs) at z=3 with Subaru/Suprime-Cam. We obtained Ly-alpha imaging at z=3.09+-0.03 around the SSA22 protocluster and in several blank fields. The total survey area is 2.1 square degrees, corresponding to a comoving volume of 1.6 x 10^6 Mpc^3. Using a uniform detection threshold of 1.4 x 10^{-18} erg s^{-1} cm^{-2} arcsec^{-2} for the Ly-alpha images, we construct a sample of 14 LAB candidates with major-axis diameters larger than 100 kpc, including five previously known blobs and two known quasars. This survey triples the number of known LABs over 100 kpc. The giant LAB sample shows a possible "morphology-density relation": filamentary LABs reside in average density environments as derived from compact Ly-alpha emitters, while circular LABs reside in both average density and overdense environments. Although it is hard to examine the formation mechanisms of LABs only from the Ly-alpha morphologies, more filamentary LABs may relate to cold gas accretion from the surrounding inter-galactic medium (IGM) and more circular LABs may relate to large-scale gas outflows, which are driven by intense starbursts and/or by AGN activities. Our survey highlights the potential usefulness of giant LABs to investigate the interactions between galaxies and the surrounding IGM from the field to overdense environments at high-redshift., Comment: MNRAS Letters accepted (6 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables)

Astrophysics - Abstract
We report the discovery of a large-scale coherent filamentary structure of Lyman alpha emitters in a redshift space at z=3.1. We carried out spectroscopic observations to map the three dimensional structure of the belt-like feature of the Lyman alpha emitters discovered by our previous narrow-band imaging observations centered on the protocluster at z=3.1. The feature was found to consist of at least three physical filaments connecting with each other. The result is in qualitative agreement with the prediction of the 'biased' galaxy-formation theories that galaxies preferentially formed in large-scale filamentary or sheet-like mass overdensities in the early Universe. We also found that the two known giant Lyman alpha emission-line nebulae showing high star-formation activities are located near the intersection of these filaments, which presumably evolves into a massive cluster of galaxies in the local Universe. This may suggest that massive galaxy formation occurs at the characteristic place in the surrounding large-scale structure at high redshift., Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ Letters

Astrophysics - Abstract
We report the properties of the 35 robust candidates of Ly-alpha blobs (LABs), which are larger than 16 arcsec^2 in isophotal area and brighter than 0.7 x 10^-16 ergs s^-1 cm^-2, searched in and around the proto-cluster region at redshift z=3.1 discovered by Steidel et al. in the SSA22 field, based on wide-field (31'x23') and deep narrow-band (NB497; 4977/77) and broad-band (B,V, and R) images taken with the prime-focus camera on the Subaru telescope. The two previously known giant LABs are the most luminous and the largest ones in our survey volume of 1.3 x 10^5 Mpc^3. We revealed the internal structures of the two giant LABs and discovered some bubble-like features, which suggest that intensive starburst and galactic superwind phenomena occurred in these objects in the past. The rest 33 LABs have isophotal area of about 16-78 arcsec^2 and flux of 0.7-7 x 10^-16 ergs s^-1 cm^-2. These 35 LABs show a continuous distribution of isophotal area and emission line flux. The distributions of average surface brightness and morphology are widespread from relatively compact high surface brightness objects to very diffuse low surface brightness ones. The physical origins of these LABs may be (i) photo-ionization by massive stars, or active galactic nuclei, or (ii) cooling radiation from gravitationally heated gas, or (iii) shock heating by starburst driven galactic superwind. One third of them are apparently not associated with ultra-violet continuum sources that are bright enough to produce Ly-alpha emission, assuming a Salpeter initial mass function. The 90% of these LABs are located inside the high surface density region of the 283 relatively compact and strong Ly-alpha emitters selected in our previous study. This suggests that these LABs may be the phenomena related to dense environment at high redshift., Comment: 27 pages, 16 figures, to be published in AJ, for high resolution figures, see http://optik2.mtk.nao.ac.jp/~matsdayi/figures/

Astrophysics - Abstract
We reported in a previous paper the discovery of large-scale structure of Lyman Alpha emitters (LAEs) at z=4.86+-0.03 with a projected size of 20 Mpc x 50 Mpc in narrow-band data of a 25' x 45' area of the Subaru Deep Field (Omega_0=0.3, lambda_0=0.7, H0=70 km/s/Mpc). However, the surveyed area, which corresponds to 55 Mpc x 100 Mpc, was not large enough that we can conclude that we are seeing a typical distribution of z~5 LAEs. In this Letter, we report the results of follow-up imaging of the same sky area using a new narrow-band filter (NB704, lambda_c=7046 A and FWHM=100 A) to detect LAEs at z=4.79, i.e., LAEs lying closer to us by 39 Mpc on average than the z=4.86 objects. We detect 51 LAEs at z=4.79+-0.04 down to NB704=25.7, and find that their sky distribution is quite different from the z=4.86 LAEs'. The clustering of z=4.79 LAEs is very weak on any scales and there is no large-scale high- contrast structure. The shape and the amplitude of the angular correlation function are thus largely different between the two samples. These results demonstrate a large cosmic variance in the clustering properties of LAEs on scales of ~ 50 Mpc., Comment: 4 pages (uses emulateapj5.sty), accepted for ApJL

Haruto Katahira,1 Masataka Sunagawa,1 Daishi Watanabe,1,2 Yasuaki Kanada,1,3 Ayami Katayama,1 Risa Yamauchi,1 Masashi Takashima,4 Shintaro Ishikawa,1 Tadashi Hisamitsu1 1Department of Physiology, 2Department of Neurology, School of Medicine, Showa University, 3Department of Surgery, Showa University Koto Toyosu Hospital, Tokyo, 4Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Showa University Fujigaoka Hospital, Kanagawa, Japan Objective: Various stressors induce stress responses through the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal and the sympathetic–adrenal–medullary axes, which are regulated, in part, by orexin. For example, secretion of orexin in the hypothalamus is increased in rats exposed to the stress of social isolation for 1 week. In this study, the antistress effects of Kampo medicine Yokukansan (YKS) via the regulation of orexin secretion were investigated using a rat model. Methods and results: The administration of 300 mg/kg per day of YKS to rats for 1 week significantly decreased the plasma orexin levels compared with non-treated rats, whereas the administration of 1,000 mg/kg of YKS had no effect on orexin levels. Therefore, 300 mg/kg of YKS was an effective dose for controlling orexin secretion. Subsequently, rats were divided into group-housed control (Con), individually housed stress (Stress), and individually housed YKS (300 mg/kg)-treated stress (Stress + YKS) groups. After 1 week, a resident–intruder aggression test was performed, and the plasma levels of orexin and corticosterone were measured. In the Stress group, aggressive behavior and the levels of corticosterone and orexin significantly increased compared with the Con group; however, these effects were inhibited in the Stress + YKS group. Further, an orexin receptor antagonist (TCS 1102; 10 mg/kg) was intraperitoneally administered to rats exposed to isolation stress to determine whether orexin was involved in stress responses. Under these conditions, aggressive behavior and the level of corticosterone significantly decreased compared with the Stress group. Conclusion: These results suggest that orexin is involved in the control of stress response and that YKS exerts an antistress effect via the regulation of orexin secretion. Concentration dependence of the Neel temperature of [Gamma]-[Mn.sub.100-x][Ru.sub.x] (31 [ is less than or equal to] x [is less than or equal to] 37 ) alloy systems has been investigated. The Neel temperature increases with decreasing Mn concentration in analogy with [Gamma]-Mn-Ir and [Gamma]-Mn-Rh alloys. The Neel temperature of the present alloy system is the highest in disordered [Gamma]-Mn-TM ( TM [equivalence] Fe, Ni, Rh, Pd, Ir and Pt ) alloys, suggesting that the Neel temperature becomes higher with decreasing the number of 3d electrons in the Mn site. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curves and the temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility for [Gamma]-MnRh ordered alloys show a marked peak associated with the magnetic transition. The Neel temperature of [Mn.sub.7] [sub.7][Rh.sub.2 3] and [Mn.sub.7] [sub.5][Rh.sub.2 5] ordered alloys is determined to be about 830 and 850 K, respectively. The paramagnetic susceptibility increases with increasing temperature, showing an itinerant electron characteristics. The thermal expansion coefficient becomes small below the Neel temperature due to a large spontaneous volume magnetostriction, taking about 5x1 [0.sup.-6]/K around room temperature. Such alloys with a small thermal expansion coefficient would induce some strain in multilayers because of the difference between the thermal expansion. Using stacks of Lyα images of 2128 Lyα emitters (LAEs) and 24 proto-cluster UV-selected galaxies (LBGs) at z = 3.1, we examine the surface brightness profiles of Lyα haloes around high-z galaxies as a function of environment and UV luminosity. We find that the slopes of the Lyα radial profiles become flatter as the Mpc-scale LAE surface density increases, but that they are almost independent of the central UV luminosity. The characteristic exponential scalelength of the Lyα haloes appears to be proportional to the square of the LAE surface density ((r_(Lyα) ∝ Σ^2_(LAE)). Including the diffuse, extended Lyα haloes, the rest-frame Lyα equivalent width of the LAEs in the densest regions approaches EW_0 ∼ 200 Å, the maximum value expected for young (

We present the results of the extensive narrow-band survey of Ly emission-line objects at z=3.1 in the 1.38 deg^2 area surrounding the high density region of star-forming galaxies at z=3.09 in the SSA22 field, as well as in the 1.04 deg^2 area of the three separated general blank fields. In total of 2161 Ly emitters, 1394 in the SSA22 fields and 767 in the general fields, respectively, are detected to the narrow-band AB magnitude limit of 25.73, which corresponds to the line flux of 1.8 x 10^{-17} erg s^{-1} cm^{-2} or luminosity of 1.5 x 10^{42} erg s^{-1} at z=3.1, above the observed equivalent width threshold, 190. We found that the peak height values of the overdensity correspond to be 8-10 times and 3-4 times of the expected standard deviations of the counts of Lyemitters at z=3.1 in the corresponding volume, respectively. We conclude that the structure at z=3.09 in the SSA22 field is a very significant and rare density peak up to the scale of 60 Mpc., 15pages, accepted for publication Astronomical Journal
