Abstract

We pursue the possibility of the scenario in which the Higgs field is identified with the extra-space component of a bulk gauge field. The space-time we take is M$^{4}$ $\otimes$ S$^1$/Z$_2$. We show that a non-trivial Z$_2$-parity assignment allows some of the extra-space component to have radiatively induced VEV, which strongly modifies the mass spectrum and gauge symmetry of the theory, realized by oribifolding. In particular we investigate the dynamical mass generation of zero-mode fermion and spontaneous gauge symmetry breaking due to the VEV. The gauge theories we adopt are a prototype model SU(2) and SU(3) model, of special interest as the realistic minimal scheme to incorporate the standard model SU(2) $\times$ U(1)., Comment: 16 pages 3 figures

We study quantum corrections on four derivative term of vector multiplets in ${\cal{N}}=2$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. We first show splitting of quantum correction on gauge neutral hypermultiplets from U(1) vector multiplets at four derivative order. We then revisit the non-renormalization theorem given by N. Seiberg and M. Abstract

We give a very simple proof that the renormalization of the Chern-Simons coupling in the Wilsonian effective action is exhausted at one-loop. Our proof can apply to arbitrary 2+1-dimensional abelian as well as nonabelian gauge theories without a bare Chern-Simons coupling, including any non-renormalizable interactions and non-minimal couplings. Abstract

The sub-nanometer amplitudes of the samples vibrated with high frequencies were measured by 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy using a nuclear Bragg monochromator and focusing optics. The Mössbauer spectra of the vibrated single-line absorber showed comb-like absorption peaks, and the amplitudes of the absorbers were determined by the sideband intensities. We used the stainless-steel foil glued on the quartz crystal or the polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film as samples. The mean value and the variance of the amplitude in sub-nanometer order were obtained for the irradiated area of 100 μm diameter in the sample. We could obtain the sub-nanometer amplitude with almost zero variance, using the 57Fe synchrotron Mössbauer source and focusing optics for the PVDF film. The resonant absorber vibrated with high frequency and amplitude without variance is useful for the control of gamma rays. This work will advance X-ray quantum optics and quantum technology applications using a single gamma photon. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Thyroid follicular-patterned tumors (TFTs) showing nodule-in-nodule (NN) appearance with poorly differentiated component (PDc) but neither invasion nor metastasis are diagnosed as benign nodules. Although PDc exhibits histologically aggressive features relative to the outer nodule (Out-N), its pathological significance remains unclear. TP53 binding protein-1 (53BP1) is a DNA damage response (DDR) molecule that rapidly localizes at DNA double-strand breaks. Using dualcolor immunofluorescence with Ki-67, the profile of 53BP1 expression is shown to be significantly altered during diverse tumorigenesis. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the malignant potential of PDc at the molecular level. We analyzed the profile of 53BP1 expression and NRAS codon 61 and TERT-promoter (TERT-p) mutations in 16 cases of TFTs showing NN with PDc compared to 30 adenomatous goiters, 31 follicular adenomas, 15 minimally invasive follicular carcinomas (FCs), and 11 widely invasive FC cases. Our results revealed that the expression level of abnormal type 53BP1 and incidence of NRAS and TERT-p mutations in PDc were comparable to FCs, suggesting a malignant potential. Because co-expression of 53BP1 and Ki-67 can be an indicator of altered DDR, the development of PDc in NN may be associated with DDR impairments after harboring NRAS and TERT-p mutations., Cancers, 14(15), art. no. 3577; 2022
