2. Quantum-Classical Computational Molecular Design of Deuterated High-Efficiency OLED Emitters

Abstract

This study describes a hybrid quantum-classical computational approach for designing synthesizable deuterated $Alq_3$ emitters possessing desirable emission quantum efficiencies (QEs). This design process has been performed on the tris(8-hydroxyquinolinato) ligands typically bound to aluminum in $Alq_3$. It involves a multi-pronged approach which first utilizes classical quantum chemistry to predict the emission QEs of the $Alq_3$ ligands. These initial results were then used as a machine learning dataset for a factorization machine-based model which was applied to construct an Ising Hamiltonian to predict emission quantum efficiencies on a classical computer. We show that such a factorization machine-based approach can yield accurate property predictions for all 64 deuterated $Alq_3$ emitters with 13 training values. Moreover, another Ising Hamiltonian could be constructed by including synthetic constraints which could be used to perform optimizations on a quantum simulator and device using the variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) and quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA) to discover a molecule possessing the optimal QE and synthetic cost. We observe that both VQE and QAOA calculations can predict the optimal molecule with greater than 0.95 probability on quantum simulators. These probabilities decrease to 0.83 and 0.075 for simulations with VQE and QAOA, respectively, on a quantum device, but these can be improved to 0.90 and 0.084 by mitigating readout error. Application of a binary search routine on quantum devices improves these results to a probability of 0.97 for simulations involving VQE and QAOA., Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures

9. Electroweak Phase Transition and LHC Signatures in the Singlet Majoron Model

Abstract

We reconsider the strength of the electroweak phase transition in the singlet Majoron extension of the Standard Model, with a low (~TeV) scale of the singlet VEV. A strongly first order phase transition, of interest for electroweak baryogenesis, is found in sizeable regions of the parameter space, especially when the cross-coupling lambda_{hs}|S|^2|H|^2 between the singlet and the doublet Higgs is significant. Large Majorana Yukawa couplings of the singlet neutrinos, y_i S nu_i^c nu_i, are also important for strengthening the transition. We incorporate the LEP and Tevatron constraints on the Higgs masses, and electroweak precision constraints, in our search for allowed parameters; successful examples include singlet masses ranging from 5 GeV to several TeV. Models with a strong phase transition typically predict a nonstandard Higgs with mass in the range 113 GeV < m_H < 200 GeV and production cross sections reduced by mixing with the singlet, with cos^2(theta) significantly less than 1. We also find examples where the singlet is light and the decay H -> SS can modify the Higgs branching ratios relative to Standard Model expectations., Comment: 36 pages, 18 figures

Abstract

Objectives: The resection of vertical margin‐negative submucosally invasive colorectal cancer (CRC) relies on the pathological risk assessment of lymph node metastasis. However, no large‐scale study has clarified the endoscopic resection (ER) outcome for submucosally invasive CRC, focusing on the vertical margin status. This retrospective study aimed to examine vertical margin involvement in ER for submucosally invasive CRC and explore the treatment consequences associated with vertical margin status. Methods: We analyzed 395 submucosally invasive CRC cases in 389 patients who underwent ER at our hospital between 2008 and 2020. The presence of residual tumors and simultaneous lymph node metastasis in patients who underwent additional surgery was assessed and compared between the vertical incomplete ER and the vertical margin‐negative groups. Results: Among the patients, 270 were men, with a median age of 69 years. The vertical incomplete ER rate was 21.5%, with positive vertical margins and unclear vertical margins identified in 12.2% and 9.3% of the cases, respectively. Among 154 patients who underwent additional surgery after ER, the vertical incomplete ER group had a significantly higher residual tumor rate than the vertical margin‐negative group (P = 0.001). The vertical incomplete ER group had a significantly higher lymph node metastasis rate than the vertical margin‐negative group (P = 0.029). Conclusion: This study clarified the substantial risk of vertical incomplete ER in submucosally invasive CRC and revealed the high risk of residual tumor and lymph node metastasis in vertical incomplete ER for submucosal CRC. 13. FUSE Observations of the Loop I/Local Bubble Interaction Region

Abstract

We used the FUSE (Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer) satellite to observe OVI emission along two sightlines towards the edge of the interaction zone (IZ) between the Loop I superbubble and the Local Bubble. One sightline was chosen because material in the interaction zone blocks distant X-ray emission, and should thus do the same for non-local OVI emission. We measured an OVI intensity of I_shadowed = 2750 +- 550 L.U. along this `Shadowed' sightline, and I_unshadowed = 10800 +- 1200 L.U. along the other sightline. Given these results, very little (< 800 L.U.) of the emission arises from the near side of the interaction zone, which likely has an HI column density of about 4e+20 cm-2 along the `Shadowed' sightline. The OVI emission arising within Loop I (~1e+4 L.U.) is probably associated with gas of n_e ~ 0.1 cm-3 and an emitting pathlength of ~1.2 pc, suggesting it arises at interfaces rather than from gas filling Loop I. In contrast, the CIII emission is similar along both sightlines, indicating that much of the emission likely arises on the near side of the interaction zone., Comment: 29 pages, 3 EPS figures, 2 tables. Abstract

Hypoxic regions in solid tumors are highly resistant to drugs and thus represents an obstacle in drug discovery. Currently, however, there are technical barriers in sampling human hypoxic tumors and examining drug delivery with high sensitivity and accuracy. Herein, we present a new platform combining functional endoscopy and highly sensitive liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry (LC–MS) to assess drug delivery to hypoxic regions. Because oxygen saturation endoscopic imaging (OXEI), a functional endoscopy, can evaluate lesions and hypoxia in real‐time by simultaneously acquiring a pseudocolor map of oxygen saturation and conventional endoscopic images, this platform can be used to evaluate drug delivery with human samples from hypoxic regions. As the first clinical application of this platform, the relationship between hypoxic regions and the concentration of trifluridine (FTD) incorporated into DNA was evaluated in patients with advanced gastric cancer treated with FTD/tipiracil (FTD/TPI; n = 13) by obtaining and analysis of tissue samples by OXEI and LC–MS and vascular maturity index by CD31/α‐SMA staining ex vivo. The results showed that the concentration of FTD was significantly higher in the normoxic region than in the hypoxic region (P < 0.05) and there were significantly more immature vessels in hypoxic regions than in normoxic regions (P < 0.05). These results indicate that the platform was sufficiently sensitive to evaluate differences in drug anabolism in different oxygenic regions of human tumor tissue. Abstract

Objectives: Endoscopy poses a high risk of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection for medical personnel due to the dispersal of aerosols from the patient. We investigated the location and size of droplets generated during esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), the contamination of the surrounding area before and after the procedures, and the effectiveness of using an extraoral suction device (Free arm arteo; TOKYO GIKEN, Inc., Tokyo, Japan). Methods: Patients who consented to the study and underwent EGD or ESD between December 8, 2020, and April 15, 2021, at the National Cancer Center East Hospital were included. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) hygiene monitoring tests and a particle counter were used for measurements. Results: Assessments were performed on 22 EGD and 15 ESD cases. ATP hygiene monitoring tests showed significant elevations at three sites near the patient, and two sites 1.5 m away, for EGD, and at four sites near the patient and 1.5 m away for ESD. In both ESD and EGD, extraoral suction devices reduced the extent of the contamination. Particles <5 μm in size were generated during endoscopic procedures and dispersed from both the forceps hole and the patient's mouth. The extraoral suction device did not reduce the number of particles generated. Conclusions: During endoscopic procedures, cleaning the surrounding environment is important in addition to standard precautions the endoscopist and caregivers take.
