Onsite reference infrared radiators are used to correct thermal imagers for noncontact fever screening in real time. We have developed a flat-plate reference radiator of the highest accuracy to enhance reliability of the fever screening. Our contact-durable blackbody composite with good heat transfer, which has a microcavity structured surface offering high emissivity (>0.999), was employed for the emissive surface of the reference radiator. Evaluation of the developed reference radiator regarding the spectral emissivity, in-plane uniformity, and temperature stability demonstrated an unprecedentedly small uncertainty of 0.10℃ for the radiance temperature (95% level of confidence).

One of the key measures to secure reliable fever screening is to calibrate a thermal imager with an accurate flat-plate blackbody device in real time. We provide durable perfect blackbody plates with both high emissivity of >0.998 and good heat transfer, ideal for a high-precision reference radiation source. Reflectance measurements and heat transfer simulation demonstrate that a micro-cavity composite of a thin resin double layer or resin mixture with thermally conductive filler is an important solution for improving the emissivity and thermal performance of blackbody plates.

現在の日本では、カチオン交換膜(CEM)とアニオン交換膜(AEM)を用いた電気透析で海水を濃縮した後、濃縮海水の水分を蒸発させることで食塩を生産している。そこで本研究では、海水濃縮工程の電気透析効率の向上を目指し、重イオンビームグラフト重合法によってCEMとAEMの開発を進めた。エチレン・テトラフルオロエチレン共重合体基材膜に対して重イオン(129Xeまたは84Kr)を照射した後、スチレンのグラフト重合とスルホン化でCEM、クロロメチルスチレンのグラフト重合と四級化でAEMを作製した。これらのCEMとAEMは、一次元のイオン伝導経路という特異的な構造を有するため、イオンを極めて透過し易く、膜抵抗が低いことが明らかとなった。海水濃縮試験では、市販膜を用いた場合と比較し、低い電解電圧でも海水を高濃度に濃縮できた。重イオンビームグラフトCEM、AEMの海水濃縮への高い適用性を実証した。

Energy released from an accelerated high-energy single/cluster particle triggers solid-state polymerization and cross-linking reactions of porphyrin-based π-conjugated monomers within a nanometer-scaled one-dimensional spatial area along the ion trajectory, resulting in the formation of an insoluble nanowire with a precise diameter and length. The nanowires are isolated by the development process—immersion of the irradiated film in organic solvents—and their shape and geometry are clearly characterized by atomic force microscopy. The obtained nanowire bundles, reflecting precisely the number of incident particles, show characteristic absorption spectra originating from porphyrin chromophores without significant degradation of the molecular cores. These porphyrin-based nanowires can be further functionalized into metallocomplexes by immersing the nanowires into solutions containing metal ion sources. The remarkable finding on the monomer structural parameters is that terminal alkyne groups are preferentially reacted and thus highly effective as a monomer structure for the present single particle-triggered linear polymerization method. The porphyrin-based nanowires show much higher photoconductivity than the precursor porphyrin films and enhanced fluorescence on silver nanoparticle layers via surface plasmon resonance. The porphyrin nanowires serve as photosensitizers mediating the generation of singlet oxygens, which is attractive for the use as a controlled nanosystem toward photocatalysis and photodynamic therapy.

We present a large-area perfect blackbody sheet, which would offer a planar standard radiator for high-precision thermal imager calibration. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) sheets with nano-precision surface micro-cavity structures achieve both ultra-low reflectance (ultra-high emissivity close to unity) over the thermal infrared wavelengths and high durability to mechanical contact. The investigation on the geometrical parameters of the conical micro-cavities, that is, radii and aspect ratios (ratio of height to radius), confirmed that the PDMS blackbody sheet with a micro-cavity radius of ~6 μm and an aspect ratio of ~4 exhibits the optimum hemispherical reflectance of less than 0.002 (emissivity of higher than 0.998) at the thermal wavelengths (6–15 μm). Furthermore, the large-area PDMS blackbody sheet of 100 mm × 80 mm maintained an excellent in-plane uniformity of the emissivity. This unprecedented large-area perfect blackbody conforms to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard recommendation regarding thermal imager calibration for fever screening in terms of the emissivity performance.

An electrochemical membrane Bunsen reaction using a cation exchange membrane (CEM) is a key to achieving iodine-sulfur (IS) thermochemical water splitting for the mass-production of hydrogen. In this study, we prepared a radiation-grafted CEM with a high ion exchange capacity (IEC) and a highly-porous Au-electroplated anode, and then used them for the membrane Bunsen reaction to reduce cell overvoltage. The high ionic content of our CEM led to low resistivity for proton transport, while the high porosity of the electrode led to a large effective surface area for anodic SO2 oxidation. The cell overvoltage for the membrane Bunsen reaction was significantly reduced to 0.21 V at 200 mA/cm2, one-third of that achieved using a commercial CEM and non-porous anode. From the analysis of the current-voltage characteristics, the grafted CEM was demonstrated to play a dominant role in the overvoltage reduction compared to the porous Au anode.

炭素担体に導入されたイオンビーム誘起欠陥は、炭素担体上に堆積した白金（Pt）ナノ微粒子の触媒活性を向上させる。本研究では、炭素への欠陥導入によるPt微粒子の形成への影響について調べた。実験では、高配向性熱分解グラファイト（HOPG）表面に380 keV Ar+を照射し、その表面にRFマグネトロンスパッタリングでPt微粒子を堆積することで試料を作製した。Pt微粒子サイズ及びPt-HOPG界面におけるグラファイト構造を透過型電子顕微鏡（TEM）観察及びラマン分光測定により評価した。TEM観察から照射したHOPG表面上のPt微粒子は、未照射HOPG上のPt微粒子に比べてそのサイズが大きくなることが分かった。また、ラマン分光測定では、Ar照射量1.0×1012 ions/cm2でグラファイト構造に空孔欠陥が生成され始め、5.0×1013 ions/cm2よりも大きい照射量でsp3欠陥が生成されることが示された。イオンビーム誘起欠陥を有するグラファイト構造がPtの粒成長を促進したと示唆された。

As a novel method for the preparation of highly-active anode catalysts for DMFCs, the effect of high-energy ion irradiation on the CeO2 embedded carbon nanofiber support (CECNF) of the PtRu/CECNF catalyst, that has been reported as a very active catalyst, on the methanol oxidation activity as well as the crystalline structure of the support materials were investigated. PtRu/CECNFs were prepared using the CECNFs that were irradiated by high-energy ion-beams under the different conditions, i.e., using 127 MeV Ar ions, 310 MeV Kr ions and 350 MeV Xe ions with different ion-fluences from 5x1011 ions cm-2 to 1x1013 ions cm-2. A change in the activity was observed at the low electrode potentials below 0.7 V vs RHE. An almost two times higher current density at 0.6 V vs RHE compared to that without irradiation was obtained by the Ar ion irradiation with the ion-fluence at around 5x1011 ions cm-2, while a higher ion-fluence reduced the activity. The reduction of the CeO2 crystalline size with the increase in the ion-fluence was observed by XRD measurements. The change in the catalytic activity roughly correlated with the increase in the lattice distance of CeO2 suggesting that the generated oxygen atom vacancies enhanced the activity.

シンチレータの発光強度は、基本的には入射粒子が付与したエネルギーに比例するが、重イオンや低エネルギーの陽子など、LETの高い粒子の入射に対してはクエンチングにより発光強度が抑制されることが知られている。本研究は、シンチレータ内における発光サイトの出現箇所を飛跡構造計算コードによって予測し、クエンチングがFörster効果に基づく発光サイト間の相互作用であると仮定して、相互作用の強度を計算した。これにより、クエンチングを受けない発光サイトの量、すなわち発光強度を決定することができる。その結果、シンチレーション光強度の計算値は実験値を再現し、重イオン入射特有の強いクエンチングを再現できることが明らかになった．

ISプロセスは水の熱化学分解による水素製造法であり、以下3つの反応からなる：(i)ブンゼン反応 SO2+I2+2H2O → H2SO4+2HI; (ii)ヨウ化水素分解反応 2HI → H2+I2; (iii)硫酸分解反応 H2SO4 → H2O+SO2+0.5O2。本論文では、これまでに我々が行ってきた(i)～(iii)に関する研究成果を紹介した。(i)については、グラフト型カチオン交換膜を装着した電気透析装置によって室温かつ低電力で反応を行う技術を開発した。(ii), (iii)については、それぞれ水素透過性、酸素透過性シリカ膜を装着した膜型反応器によって約400、600 ℃で高効率に反応を行う技術を開発した。このように、ISプロセスの産業実用化に向け、(i)～(iii)の各要素技術の開発は順調に進んでいる。

現在の日本では、カチオン交換膜(CEM)とアニオン交換膜(AEM)を用いた電気透析で海水を濃縮した後、濃縮海水の水分を蒸発させて食塩を生産している。そこで本研究では、海水濃縮効率の向上を目指し、重イオンビームグラフト法によって新規ナノ構造制御CEMを作製した。CEMの作製は、エチレン・テトラフルオロエチレン共重合体膜に対する84Krイオン照射、スチレンのグラフト重合、スチレンユニットのスルホン化という手順で行った。得られたナノ構造制御CEMは、低含水率にも関わらず非常に膜抵抗が低かった。これは特異的な一次元イオン伝導経路がイオンを極めて効率的に透過するからであると推測される。さらに、含水率が低いために水透過も抑制されることが明らかになった。このようにナノ構造制御CEMは、海水濃縮にとって好適な、低い膜抵抗と低い水透過率を兼ね備えることがわかった。

高速重イオンがセラミックスに真上から入射すると、イオン一つに対してヒロック(ナノメートルサイズの隆起物)が一つ表面に形成される。一方で近年、高速重イオンがチタン酸ストロンチウム(SrTiO3)や酸化チタン(TiO2)の表面をかするように入射した場合、表面にはイオンの飛跡に沿って連続的に複数個のヒロックが形成されるとの報告がある。これらは原子間力顕微鏡(AFM)を用いて観察されているが、観察結果にはAFMのプローブ寸法由来の測定誤差を含んでいる。本研究では、ヒロックのサイズより十分小さい分解能(1.5nm)を有し、電界放出形走査電子顕微鏡(FE-SEM)を用いて連続ヒロックを観察し、形状の違いを検討した。SrTiO3(100)とNbを0.05 wt%添加した単結晶SrTiO3(100)に対し、350MeVのAuビームを、単結晶表面に対するイオンの入射角が2度以下となるよう照射した。SrTiO3はNbを添加することで電気伝導性が発現する。照射後のFE-SEM観察によって、SrTiO3(100)表面には長さ数百nmにわたって直径20 nmのヒロックが連続的に形成されていた一方で、Nbを添加したSrTiO3(100)表面では、ほぼ同じ長さで凹状に溝が形成されていることがわかった。

Planar near-perfect blackbodies have wide applications ranging from dark-level reduction to light harvesting. Among them, carbon nanotube (CNT) forests have an unmatched mid-infrared blackbody performance, which is favourable for thermal radiation management. However, their inherent fragility against direct contact limits their broader use. Here we present a class of perfect blackbody sheets from elastomers outperforming CNT forests. Nano-precision micro-cavity arrays embossed on a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) sheet exhibit an exceptionally low reflectance of ≲0.0005 over the entire mid-infrared wavelengths (6–15 μm). In addition, this sheet maintains high resilience to tape-pulling, repeated bending, and scratching. The key technology is swift heavy ion manufacturing, yielding a highly flawless template of conical micro-cavities having necessary and sufficient openings (a dozen μm) and depths (several tens of μm) to trap ultrabroadband photons. Notably, the just-embossed PDMS sheets are visibly transmissive, whereas pre-addition of carbon black can extend the spectral range of near-perfect absorption as wide as from ultraviolet to mid-infrared wavelengths. Our tough and flexible planar blackbodies offer versatile applications of perfect absorbers/radiators, particularly with respect to thermal infrared management.

高速重イオン (SHI) がセラミックスに真上から入射すると、SHI 一つに対してヒロック (ナノメートルサイズの隆起物) が一つ表面に形成される。一方で近年、SHI がチタン酸ストロンチウム (SrTiO3) や酸化チタン (TiO2)の表面をかするように入射した場合、表面にはイオンの飛跡に沿って連続的に複数個のヒロックが形成されると報告がある。これらは原子間力顕微鏡 (AFM) を用いて観察されており、観察結果には AFM のプローブ寸法由来の測定誤差を含んでいる。本研究では、ヒロックのサイズより十分小さい分解能 (1.5 nm) を有し、非接触で観察可能な電界放出形走査電子顕微鏡 (FE-SEM) を用いて連続ヒロックを観察する手法を検討した。本発表では連続ヒロックのFE-SEM観察結果とともに、新しい連続ヒロックの形状変化メカニズムを提案する。

We prepared cation exchange membranes (CEMs) by an ion-track grafting technique, which involves irradiation of a polymer substrate with MeV heavy ions to form the nano-sized cylindrical ion tracks and subsequent graft polymerization to create the ion channels. The prepared CEMs exhibited the resistance lower than that of the commercially-available Nafion212 membrane and conventional γ-ray-grafted CEMs even at the low water uptake. This result indicates efficient proton transport in the cylindrical ion channels, and so our ion-track-grafted CEMs are the promising materials for electrodialysis applications., 第30回日本MRS年次大会

To investigate the effect of irradiation-induced defects on the superconducting characteristics of industrially produced superconductor—GdBa₂Cu₃O₇−δ (GdBCO)—coated conductors (CCs), we irradiated the GdBCO CCs with Au ions at 2 or 10 MeV and probed them using a slow positron beam. Vacancy clusters were detected in both unirradiated and irradiated GdBCO CCs. However, the effect of ion irradiation on the GdBCO CCs was characterized as a slight reduction in the positron annihilation rate with low-momentum electrons. We also found a correlation between the annihilation rate of low-momentum electrons and the superconducting transition temperature.

我々は、ヨウ化水素(HI)濃縮電解電気透析への適用に向け、イオン飛跡グラフト重合法によって低い膜抵抗と低い水透過率を両立するカチオン交換膜（CEM）の開発を進めている。本研究では、作製したCEMのHI水溶液中における膜抵抗と水透過率を測定した。膜抵抗が約0.80 Ωcm²のときの水透過率は、市販膜Nafionでは3.8 L m⁻² h⁻¹、従来のγ線グラフトCEMでは0.95 L m⁻² h⁻¹であったのに対し、イオン飛跡グラフトCEMでは0.55 L m⁻² h⁻¹と最も低かった。イオン飛跡グラフトCEMは特異的な円柱状イオンチャネルを有し、低含水率下でも効率的にプロトンを輸送するため、膜抵抗と水透過率が共に低いと考えられる。, 化学工学会 第51回秋季大会(2020)

我々は、重イオンビームを用いて、水透過を抑制する低膨潤性の電気透析用陽イオン交換膜（CEM）の開発を行っている。本研究では、作製したCEMの含水率を室温の希塩酸中で測定し、膨潤性を評価した。電気透析セルの過電圧を決定づける膜抵抗が一定の下で含水率を比較すると、市販膜Nafionが18%であったのに対して、作製したCEMは7.5%であった。この値は、γ線グラフト重合法により得られたCEMの3分の2でもあることから、含水率の抑制、すなわち膨潤性の低下が確認できた。, 日本膜学会第42年会
