NbRu has a potential as a high-temperature shape-memory alloy (HTSMA) because it has a martensitic transformation temperature above 1000 °C. However, its shape-memory properties could be improved for consideration in the aerospace and automotive industry. The unsatisfactory shape-memory properties could be associated with the presence of a brittle tetragonal L10 martensitic phase. Therefore, in an attempt to modify the transformation path from B2→L10 in preference of either B2→orthorhombic or B2→monoclinic (MCL), an addition of B2 phase stabiliser, titanium (Ti), has been considered in this study to partially substitute niobium (Nb) atoms. The ab initio calculations have been conducted to investigate the effect of Ti addition on the thermodynamic, elastic, and electronic properties of the Nb50−xTixRu50 in B2 and L10 phases. The results showed that the B2 and L10 phases had comparable stability with increasing Ti content. The simulated data presented here was sufficient for the selection of suitable compositions that would allow the L10 phase to be engineered out. The said composition was identified within 15–30 at.% Ti. These compositions have a potential to be considered when designing alloys for structural application at high temperatures above 200 °C. The exceptional mechanical properties of Ni-based high entropy alloys are due to the presence of ordered L12 (γ′) precipitates embedded within a disordered matrix phase. While the strengthening contribution of the γ′ phase is generally accepted, there is no consensus on the precise contribution of the individual strengthening mechanisms to the overall strength. In addition, changes in alloy composition influence several different mechanisms, making the assessment of alloying conditions complex. Multicomponent L12-ordered single-phase alloys were systematically developed with the aid of CALPHAD thermodynamic calculations. The alloying elements Co, Cr, Ti, and Nb were chosen to complexify the Ni3Al structure. The existence of the γ′ single phase was validated by microstructure characterization and phase identification. A high-temperature compression test from 500 °C to 1000 °C revealed a positive temperature dependence of strength before reaching the peak strength in the studied alloys NiCoCrAl, NiCoCrAlTi, and NiCoCrAlNb. Ti and Nb alloying addition significantly enhanced the high-temperature yield strengths before the peak temperature. The yield strength was modeled by summing the individual effects of solid solution strengthening, grain boundary strengthening, order strengthening, and cross-slip-induced strengthening. Microstructural conversion mechanisms under hot forging process (at temperatures ranging from 750 °C to 1050 °C and strain rates ranging from 10–3 s–1 to 1 s–1) of a Ti-5Al-2Sn-2Zr-4Mo-4Cr (Ti-17) alloy with a lamellar starting microstructure were experimentally identified in this work. After that, constitutive formulae for predicting the microstructural evolution were established followed by calculation using finite-element (FEM) analysis. In the α phase, a lamellae kinking is the dominant mode in the higher strain rate region and dynamic globularization frequently occurs at higher temperatures. On the other hand, continuous dynamic recrystallization is the dominant mode below the transition temperature, Tβ (880~890 °C) in the β phase. And, at conditions of lower strain rates and higher temperatures, dynamic recovery tends to be more active. For microstructural prediction, a set of constitutive equations modeling the microstructural evolution and forging properties are established by optimizing the experimental data followed by implementation in the DEFORM-3D software package. Herein, microstructural evolution on dynamic globularization process, dynamic recrystallization behavior are predicted according to both approaches of physical model and artificial neural network model followed by FEM simulation. In these calculated results, there is a satisfactory agreement between the experimental and simulated results, indicating that the established series of constitutive models can be used to reliably predict the properties of a Ti-17 alloy after forging.
