The study examines the perceptions of interfaith spiritual care, received through a volunteer hospice organization, by 10 individuals facing death and dying. Qualitative methodology based on the Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis was used to collect and analyze the data. Four superordinate themes reflected meanings ascribed to spirituality and spiritual care in facing end of life: Vital Role of Spirituality in the End-of-Life Care, Definitions and Parameters of Spirituality and Interfaith Spiritual Care, Distinct Aspects of Interfaith Spiritual Care, and Unmet Spiritual Needs. The results expand an understanding of the role of spirituality and spiritual care as part of the hospice and palliative care through attention to individual perceptions and experiences, as well as to ways to expand attention to spirituality within the hospice care.

This essay introduces non-Ukrainian audiences to one of the most significant archetypal figures in Ukrainian history, culture, politics, and creative life, both past and present. The poet Taras Shevchenko, born over 200 years ago during an era of Russian imperial enslavement of Ukrainians, remains a powerful voice engraved in the spaces of Ukraine's fight for liberation, self-determination, and freedom. In addition to his contributions to these causes, Shevchenko's work addresses numerous other concerns, including gender, class, language, and other vital social issues. We argue that Shevchenko's vibrant, enduring, and wide-reaching archetypal presence establishes him as a pan-archetypal cultural hero whose influence extends beyond national boundaries. This essay serves as an introduction to a special issue featuring work by and about Ukrainian Jungian analysts conducting therapy under the conditions of Russia's war against Ukraine. Their work with loss, grief, crises, and other life changes are highlighted. These articles underscore important aspects of analytic efforts that can be applied in such circumstances, as well as noting the limits of therapeutic work when both patients and analysts face catastrophic experiences, including death. This correspondence introduces several distinct current efforts by Ukrainian psychoanalytic practitioners and researchers from various clinical, scholarly, and applied fields to support the sustainable development of psychoanalytic training and work in the context of the ongoing 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Among these developments are (a) the translation of the classic and contemporary psychoanalytic texts into the Ukrainian language, (b) the promotion of Ukrainian psychoanalytic contributions within Ukraine and abroad, and (c) the support of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy as an evidence‐based practice to be officially recognized in Ukraine. The initiatives were integrated with the launch of a scholarly peer‐reviewed online open‐access journal—the Ukrainian Psychoanalytic Journal—which has been confirmed by the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science as a scientific periodical. In addition to describing these initiatives, this contribution serves as an invitation to international psychoanalytic audiences to contribute to these processes, including via workshops on psychoanalytic writing and publication, joint panel discussions, or collaborative research projects with Ukrainian psychoanalytic professionals. This multiple qualitative case study with eight immigrant women examined women's stories of migration and post-relocation adjustment to the U.S. The results showed that women described their lived experiences in distinctly gendered terms. The four superordinate themes that were present in their stories were Gendered Adaptation, Gendered Resilience, Gendered Violence, and Gendered Discrimination. Relational attachment theory is among the most extensively researched psychological theories, and offers numerous applications for financial advising and wealth management practices. Attachment theory is one of the most comprehensive psychological frameworks for understanding how individuals can develop and use their relational (e.g., trust, bonding, closeness) and emotion-management (e.g., attunement, affective regulation, empathy) capacities. This article provides a review of attachment theory basics and a summary of empirical investigations into human socioemotional patterns. In addition, we elucidate how compromised attachment styles contribute to complications related to these capacities. We also review the applications of attachment theories and research to financial management processes; the relational dynamics related to wealth and money; the impact of attachment styles on founders' financial succession choices; and the impact of wealth on the rising generation (Rising Gen). This response focuses on the significance of ethnic minority psychology organizations and other related membership structures to early career psychologists (ECPs) and counseling psychology students. We discuss not only reasons for why students and ECPs may not be joining professional organizations, but also strategies for recruiting, supporting, and mentoring them through organizations which are focused on diversity.

Language brokering (LB) is the act of translating and interpreting within immigrant families by children and adolescents for their parents, other family members, and other adults. Although LB is a common phenomenon among immigrant families in the United States, research regarding its impact on immigrant families mainly focuses on the experiences of language brokers only and not on their parents or immediate families. Thus, the purpose of this in-depth multiple qualitative case study was to understand how the demands of LB affected relationships within Mexican immigrant families living in the Midwestern United States. Six two-parent Mexican immigrant families with an identified child language broker participated in this study. Parents and child brokers were interviewed separately and participated in an LB simulation. The data were analyzed case by case through thematic analysis followed by cross-case analysis. Four themes emerged as pertinent across all cases and included family relationships, feelings about brokering, language brokering situations, and challenges of language brokering. A grounded theory was utilized to develop a model of stress and coping experienced by recent immigrants to the United States. Maximum variation sampling was used to gather data from 20 leaders within immigrant and refugee communities in a Midwest U.S. city. A theoretical model was developed by identifying causal conditions, contexts, intervening conditions, and consequences related to experiences of stress and coping. Specific propositions in regard to the process of stress, coping, and adaptation among recent immigrants were made. Implications for clinical services and research with this population are considered.

This exploratory study focused on the career development experiences of college-age students in Ukraine, a country that is experiencing tremendous social, political, demographic, and economic transitions. The tentative hypotheses included examination of relationships among work hope attitudes, self-esteem, and career development influences in a sample of 312 Ukrainian college students. Greater work hope attitudes were found in those students who reported relying on their own selves in their career choice in contrast to those who relied on their parents or other sources. Self-esteem was positively related to work hope attitudes as well as students' beliefs in the importance of education and skills in obtaining work. Suggestions for future research, theory, and practice with this population are provided. (Contains 2 tables.)

This article provides a review of current research on human trafficking for mental health practitioners and scholars. In addition to an overview of definitions, causes and processes of trafficking, the article highlights mental health consequences of trafficking along with suggestions for treatment of survivors. Directions for counseling services, prevention, policy work and international involvement are also discussed.

The current xenophobic cultural environment in the United States makes it imperative that psychologists understand the nature of xenophobia and recognize its consequences. This article explores sociological, social psychological, and multicultural research to examine the causes of negative attitudes toward immigrants. Xenophobia is presented as a concept descriptive of a socially observable phenomenon. Historical and contemporary expressions of xenophobia in the United States are examined and compared with cross-cultural scholarship on negative attitudes toward immigrants. Last, suggestions are provided for how counseling psychologists can integrate an understanding of xenophobia into their clinical practice, training, research, and public policy advocacy. Recent immigrants and refugees experience great amounts of stress. Literature on immigration and stress has focused primarily on the stressors directly related to immigrants' adjustment to a new culture (i.e., acculturation stress). This manuscript discusses stress and coping in the lives of recent immigrants and refugees within a framework of stress theories proposed in psychological literature. In addition, an overview of stressors encountered by recent immigrants is provided. Implications for clinical work, research, and advocacy are discussed.

The number of recent immigrants and refugees in the United States is growing dramatically. Among key reasons for migration is search for adequate employment and hope for opportunities to develop occupationally. However, recent immigrants and refugees face multiple obstacles in their career development in the United States. This article uses social cognitive career theory to examine the role of relocation circumstances, stressors of migration, acculturation patterns, and oppression on the career development and employment functioning of recent immigrants and refugees. Specific suggestions for career counselors working with this population are provided. (Contains 1 table.)

This archival study examined the use of a university counseling center's services by international students during a 5-year period. Variables analyzed included clients' presenting concerns, students' demographic characteristics, number of counseling sessions attended, and reasons for termination. Implications for counselor training, outreach activities, and counseling services on college campuses are discussed. (Contains 2 tables.)

This article addresses the distinctive aspects of career development of people from the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). The ecological model of career development is applied to understanding how political changes can influence the career trajectories of individuals within a culture. The role of the political, social, familial, and educational influences on the world of work is examined for the USSR and post-Soviet times. Special focus is given to immigrants from the former USSR, and suggestions for practitioners who are working with individuals and families are provided. (Contains 1 table.)

The authors present 3 studies on the initial validity and reliability of the Scale of Ethnocultural Empathy (SEE), a self-report instrument that measures empathy toward people of racial and ethnic backgrounds different from one's own. Specifically, the exploratory factor analysis yielded 4 factors: Empathic Feeling and Expression, Empathic Perspective Taking, Acceptance of Cultural Differences, and Empathic Awareness. A confirmatory factor analysis provided evidence for the stability and generalizability of this 4-factor solution. The SEE was correlated in the predicted directions with general empathy and attitudes toward people's similarities and differences. High internal consistency and test-retest reliability estimates were also found across the three studies. A discussion of how this scale can add to the research and practice regarding empathy and multicultural issues is provided.

Because of an increasing number of immigrants to the United States, many clinicians are faced with challenges and opportunities presented in working with clients through language interpreters. This article describes a phenomenological investigation focused on the processes related to therapy with limited English proficiency (LEP) clients through interpreters. The focus of the study was on clinicians' perceptions regarding professional and personal factors influencing services with LEP individuals, as well as contextual aspects of this work. In addition to highlighting specific characteristics and training needed for clinicians and interpreters who work with LEP clients, the readers will also learn about systemic changes that could improve the provision of mental health care to these clients.
