Search

Relative yields have been measured in the 40-130 MeV bremsstrahlung induced reactions of 59Co. The experiments have been performed with the beam from the electron linear accelerator LINAC-200 using the activation and off-line {\gamma}-ray spectrometric technique. The bremsstrahlung photon flux has been calculated with the Geant4 program. The cross sections were calculated by using computer code TALYS-1.96 with different models and are found to be in good agreement with the experimental data., Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures, 3 tables

The radioactive decay properties of $^{242}$Es were studied with significantly improved statistics compared to available literature data. This isotope was produced in the 3n evaporation channel of the fusion reaction of $^{48}$Ca+$^{197}$Au. A half-life of 16.9(8)~s was deduced from 662 $\alpha$ decays of $^{242}$Es, resulting in an $\alpha$-decay branching of 41(3)\%. Twenty-six fission events with a half-life of 18.2$^{+4.5}_{-3.0}$~s were assigned to originate from the electron-capture delayed fission of $^{242}$Es. The probability for the electron-capture delayed fission was measured to be 0.015(4), which improves and resolves ambiguities in available experimental data. We discuss all known cases for electron-capture delayed fission in Es, Bk, and Am isotopes and compare experimental data with predictions from a recent semi-empirical model. A cross section of 27(3)~nb was measured for the production of $^{242}$Es.

Power lines are dangerous for low-flying aircraft, especially in low-visibility conditions. Thus, a vision-based system able to analyze the aircraft's surroundings and to provide the pilots with a "second pair of eyes" can contribute to enhancing their safety. To this end, we have developed a deep learning approach to jointly detect power line cables and pylons from images captured at distances of several hundred meters by aircraft-mounted cameras. In doing so, we have combined a modern convolutional architecture with transfer learning and a loss function adapted to curvilinear structure delineation. We use a single network for both detection tasks and demonstrated its performance on two benchmarking datasets. We have integrated it within an onboard system and run it in flight, and have demonstrated with our experiments that it outperforms the prior distant cable detection method on both datasets, while also successfully detecting pylons, given their annotations are available for the data., Comment: Added several declarations at the end of the publication

Positron emission tomography (PET) is a well-established functional imaging technique for diagnosing brain disorders. However, PET's high costs and radiation exposure limit its widespread use. In contrast, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) does not have these limitations. Although it also captures neurodegenerative changes, MRI is a less sensitive diagnostic tool than PET. To close this gap, we aim to generate synthetic PET from MRI. Herewith, we introduce PASTA, a novel pathology-aware image translation framework based on conditional diffusion models. Compared to the state-of-the-art methods, PASTA excels in preserving both structural and pathological details in the target modality, which is achieved through its highly interactive dual-arm architecture and multi-modal condition integration. A cycle exchange consistency and volumetric generation strategy elevate PASTA's capability to produce high-quality 3D PET scans. Our qualitative and quantitative results confirm that the synthesized PET scans from PASTA not only reach the best quantitative scores but also preserve the pathology correctly. For Alzheimer's classification, the performance of synthesized scans improves over MRI by 4%, almost reaching the performance of actual PET. Code is available at https://github.com/ai-med/PASTA.

The current experiments searching for neutrinoless double-$\beta$ ($0\nu\beta\beta$) decay also collect large statistics of Standard Model allowed two-neutrino double-$\beta$ ($2\nu\beta\beta$) decay events. These can be used to search for Beyond Standard Model (BSM) physics via $2\nu\beta\beta$ decay spectral distortions. $^{100}$Mo has a natural advantage due to its relatively short half-life, allowing higher $2\nu\beta\beta$ decay statistics at equal exposures compared to the other isotopes. We demonstrate the potential of the dual read-out bolometric technique exploiting a $^{100}$Mo exposure of 1.47 kg $\times$ y, acquired in the CUPID-Mo experiment at the Modane underground laboratory (France). We set limits on $0\nu\beta\beta$ decays with the emission of one or more Majorons, on $2\nu\beta\beta$ decay with Lorentz violation, and $2\nu\beta\beta$ decay with a sterile neutrino emission. In this analysis, we investigate the systematic uncertainty induced by modeling the $2\nu\beta\beta$ decay spectral shape parameterized through an improved model, an effect never considered before. This work motivates searches for BSM processes in the upcoming CUPID experiment, which will collect the largest amount of $2\nu\beta\beta$ decay events among the next-generation experiments.

Differential diagnosis of dementia is challenging due to overlapping symptoms, with structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) being the primary method for diagnosis. Despite the clinical value of computer-aided differential diagnosis, research has been limited, mainly due to the absence of public datasets that contain diverse types of dementia. This leaves researchers with small in-house datasets that are insufficient for training deep neural networks (DNNs). Self-supervised learning shows promise for utilizing unlabeled MRI scans in training, but small batch sizes for volumetric brain scans make its application challenging. To address these issues, we propose Triplet Training for differential diagnosis with limited target data. It consists of three key stages: (i) self-supervised pre-training on unlabeled data with Barlow Twins, (ii) self-distillation on task-related data, and (iii) fine-tuning on the target dataset. Our approach significantly outperforms traditional training strategies, achieving a balanced accuracy of 75.6%. We further provide insights into the training process by visualizing changes in the latent space after each step. Finally, we validate the robustness of Triplet Training in terms of its individual components in a comprehensive ablation study. The yields of photonuclear reactions in the 107Ag, 113In, and 115In nuclei have been measured. Monte Carlo simulations have been performed using the Geant4 code, and the results have been compared with the experimental ones. The isomeric ratios of the yields in the reactions 107Ag({\gamma},n)106m,gAg and 113In({\gamma},n)112m,gIn have been determined. The cross sections for the reactions 107Ag({\gamma},n)106gAg and 107Ag({\gamma},2n)105Ag at an energy of 20 MeV have been calculated on the basis of the experimental data.

DANSS is a spectrometer of reactor antineutrino based on plastic scintillator. The sensitive volume of the detector is made of 2500 polystyrene based scintillator plates with wavelength shifting (WLS) fiber readout (strips). We present a study of the strips light yield during 6.5 years of DANSS continuous running. Overall ageing at the rate $0.55 \pm 0.05(syst.)$ % per year is observed that is considerably smaller than in other similar experiments. We also observe the WLS fiber attenuation length shortening at the rate $0.26 \pm 0.04(stat.)$ % per year., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures, to be submitted to JINST

Neutrinoless double beta decay ($0\nu\beta\beta$) is a yet unobserved nuclear process which would demonstrate Lepton Number violation, a clear evidence of beyond Standard Model physics. The process two neutrino double beta decay ($2\nu\beta\beta)$ is allowed by the Standard Model and has been measured in numerous experiments. In this letter, we report a measurement of $2\nu\beta\beta$ decay half-life of $^{100}$Mo to the ground state of $^{100}$Ru of $(7.07~\pm~0.02~\text{(stat.)}~\pm~0.11~\text{(syst.)})~\times~10^{18}$~yr by the CUPID-Mo experiment. With a relative precision of $\pm~1.6$ \% this is the most precise measurement to date of a $2\nu\beta\beta$ decay rate in $^{100}$Mo. In addition, we constrain higher-order corrections to the spectral shape which provides complementary nuclear structure information. We report a novel measurement of the shape factor $\xi_{3,1}=0.45~\pm 0.03~\text{(stat.)} \ \pm 0.05 \ \text{(syst.)}$, which is compared to theoretical predictions for different nuclear models. The detector DANSS is located under n industrial nuclear reactor at Kalininskaya Nuclear Power Plant. This location provides ~ 50 m.w.e. reduction of the cosmic muon flux in the vertical direction, which places the experiment in an intermediate position between ground and underground experiments in terms of shielding from the cosmic rays. The detector's sensitive area consists of 2500 plastic scintillator counters, each 100x4x1 cm$^3$ in size, making in total a 1 m$^3$ volume, which is surrounded by a muon veto system and multiple layers of passive shielding. The main goal of the DANSS experiment is to study the antineutrino spectra at different distances from the source. For this purpose the detector is placed on a lifting platform, and the data is collected at three positions: 10.9 m, 11.9 m and 12.9 m from the center of the reactor core. The detector is capable of reconstructing muon tracks passing though the sensitive volume. In this work the barometric, height and temperature correlation coefficients are calculated in three areas of the zenith angle $\theta$ using the Duperier approach. The future Ricochet experiment aims to search for new physics in the electroweak sector by measuring the Coherent Elastic Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering process from reactor antineutrinos with high precision down to the sub-100 eV nuclear recoil energy range. While the Ricochet collaboration is currently building the experimental setup at the reactor site, it is also finalizing the cryogenic detector arrays that will be integrated into the cryostat at the Institut Laue Langevin in early 2024. In this paper, we report on recent progress from the Ge cryogenic detector technology, called the CryoCube. More specifically, we present the first demonstration of a 30~eVee (electron equivalent) baseline ionization resolution (RMS) achieved with an early design of the detector assembly and its dedicated High Electron Mobility Transistor (HEMT) based front-end electronics. This represents an order of magnitude improvement over the best ionization resolutions obtained on similar heat-and-ionization germanium cryogenic detectors from the EDELWEISS and SuperCDMS dark matter experiments, and a factor of three improvement compared to the first fully-cryogenic HEMT-based preamplifier coupled to a CDMS-II germanium detector. CUPID-Mo, located in the Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane (France), was a demonstrator for the next generation $0\nu\beta\beta$ decay experiment, CUPID. It consisted of an array of 20 enriched Li$_{2}$$ ^{100}$MoO$_4$ bolometers and 20 Ge light detectors and has demonstrated that the technology of scintillating bolometers with particle identification capabilities is mature. Furthermore, CUPID-Mo can inform and validate the background prediction for CUPID. In this paper, we present a detailed model of the CUPID-Mo backgrounds. This model is able to describe well the features of the experimental data and enables studies of the $2\nu\beta\beta$ decay and other processes with high precision. We also measure the radio-purity of the Li$_{2}$$^{100}$MoO$_4$ crystals which are found to be sufficient for the CUPID goals. Finally, we also obtain a background index in the region of interest of 3.7$^{+0.9}_{-0.8}$(stat)$^{+1.5}_{-0.7}$(syst)$\times10^{-3}$counts/$\Delta$E$_{FWHM}$/mol$_{iso}$/yr, the lowest in a bolometric $0\nu\beta\beta$ decay experiment.

Coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CE$\nu$NS) offers valuable sensitivity to physics beyond the Standard Model. The Ricochet experiment will use cryogenic solid-state detectors to perform a precision measurement of the CE$\nu$NS spectrum induced by the high neutrino flux from the Institut Laue-Langevin nuclear reactor. The experiment will employ an array of detectors, each with a mass of $\sim$30 g and a targeted energy threshold of 50 eV. Nine of these detectors (the "Q-Array") will be based on a novel Transition-Edge Sensor (TES) readout style, in which the TES devices are thermally coupled to the absorber using a gold wire bond. We present initial characterization of a Q-Array-style detector using a 1 gram silicon absorber, obtaining a baseline root-mean-square resolution of less than 40 eV., Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures

This paper focuses on investigation of confidential documents leaks in the form of screen photographs. Proposed approach does not try to prevent leak in the first place but rather aims to determine source of the leak. Method works by applying on the screen a unique identifying watermark as semi-transparent image that is almost imperceptible for human eyes. Watermark image is static and stays on the screen all the time thus watermark present on every captured photograph of the screen. The key components of the approach are three neural networks. The first network generates an image with embedded message in a way that this image is almost invisible when displayed on the screen. The other two neural networks are used to retrieve embedded message with high accuracy. Developed method was comprehensively tested on different screen and cameras. In the context of direct searches of sub-GeV Dark Matter particles with germanium detectors, the EDELWEISS collaboration has tested a new technique to tag ionizing events using NbSi transition edge athermal phonon sensors. The emission of the athermal phonons generated by the Neganov-Trofimov-Luke effect associated with the drift of electrons and holes through the detectors is used to tag ionization events generated in specific parts of the detector localized in front of the NbSi sensor and to reject by more than a factor 5 (at 90% C.L.) the background from heat-only events that dominates the spectrum above 3 keV. This method is able to improve by a factor 2.8 the previous limit on spin-independent interactions of 1 GeV/c2 WIMPs obtained with the same detector and data set but without this tagging technique., Comment: 13 pages, 11 figures

The future Ricochet experiment aims at searching for new physics in the electroweak sector by providing a high precision measurement of the Coherent Elastic Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering (CENNS) process down to the sub-100 eV nuclear recoil energy range. The experiment will deploy a kg-scale low-energy-threshold detector array combining Ge and Zn target crystals 8.8 meters away from the 58 MW research nuclear reactor core of the Institut Laue Langevin (ILL) in Grenoble, France. Currently, the Ricochet collaboration is characterizing the backgrounds at its future experimental site in order to optimize the experiment's shielding design. The most threatening background component, which cannot be actively rejected by particle identification, consists of keV-scale neutron-induced nuclear recoils. These initial fast neutrons are generated by the reactor core and surrounding experiments (reactogenics), and by the cosmic rays producing primary neutrons and muon-induced neutrons in the surrounding materials. In this paper, we present the Ricochet neutron background characterization using $^3$He proportional counters which exhibit a high sensitivity to thermal, epithermal and fast neutrons. We compare these measurements to the Ricochet Geant4 simulations to validate our reactogenic and cosmogenic neutron background estimations. Eventually, we present our estimated neutron background for the future Ricochet experiment and the resulting CENNS detection significance., Comment: 14 pages, 14 figures, 1 table
