Background. Crystallography of saliva is one of the actively developing scientifc felds. Non-invasiveness and low cost of the method make it appropriate for use in screening studies and monitoring the treatment of diseases. Currently, mortality from cardiovascular diseases takes the frst place among the causes of death, which justifes the use of statins as the most effective means of preventing these diseases. At the same time, up to 30% of cases of taking statins are accompanied by the development of hepatitis, which is an indication for stopping the use of these drugs. Considering that alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is an indicator enzyme for liver damage and, at the same time, an enzyme actively involved in the exchange of calcium, which determines the structure of saliva crystals, the aim of this study was to develop a method for monitoring ALP activity by the form of saliva crystals in patients taking statins. Material and methods. A total of 22 men who took and did not take atorvastatin were examined. Blood and saliva were taken from the subjects in the morning on an empty stomach. The activity of ALP in blood was determined by a photometric method on the SOLAR CM2203 spectrophotometer. Saliva was crystallized by the S.P. Leus’ method. The shape of the crystals was studied using a Leica DM 2000 microscope. Results. It was shown that in individuals taking statins, the activity of ALP was 33.4% lower than in those of the control group and correlated with various forms of saliva crystals. Conclusions. A method for assessing the activity of alkaline phosphatase by crystallograms of saliva with 94.12% accuracy, 100% sensitivity and 88.89% specifcity has been developed.

In this work, morphophysiological reactions to the use of LED-based lamps as a radiation source when grown in an artificial climate on a hydroponic installation are studied using the example of basil plants. Basil plants were grown to technological ripeness. In the experimental samples, the indicators of the accumulation of raw and dry biomass, the area of the leaf surface, etc. were determined. It was found that basil plants can be grown to the stage of technological ripeness in an artificial climate based on light-emitting diodes.

Plants of the red - leaved form of Karmezi lettuce varietie was grown at three irradiation levels of 80.60 and 25 mmol m-2 • s-1 with subsequent transfer of part of the plants To a high level of illumination with additional ultraviolet light. The production process, gas exchange and accumulation of anthocyanins were studied. It was shown that ultraviolet and high irradiation (80 mmol m-2 • s-1) stimulate the formation of anthocyanins in the lettuce plants.

Short-chain fatty acids (which include acetic, propionic, and butyric acids) are metabolites of microbiota that can have diverse physiological effects both in the intestine and outside it, including in the central nervous system. The aim of our work was to study the effect of sodium acetate, propionate, and butyrate on the activity of large conductance Ca2+-activated K+ channels and calcium oscillations in the culture of rat pituitary GH3 cells. It was demonstrated that the studied fatty acids cause a dose-dependent increase in the amplitude of the integral outward potassium currents; these effects are prevented by tetraethylammonium, which indicates the involvement of large conductance Ca2+-activated K+ channels in the effects of fatty acids. Indeed, fatty acids increased open probability of single channels without a change in the amplitude and mean channel open time (dwell time). In addition, they led to a significant decrease in the amplitude and frequency of Ca2+ oscillations in GH3 cells. An increase in potassium conductance and a decrease in the level of intracellular Ca2+ under the effect of short-chain fatty acids can mediate their effects in different excitable structures, such as a decrease in the contractility of intestinal and vascular smooth muscle cells, hyperpolarization of neurons, and regulation of the release of hormones and neurotransmitters.
