Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to highlight the management of strategic action plan (SAP) in supporting the achievement of the university to achieve the targeted goal of becoming a globally renowned university by 2025. Design/methodology/approach: The project management process is equipped through initiation, planning, execution, monitoring & control and closing. University Electronic Programme Management Office (UePMO) SAP Online system was developed to facilitate registration and monitoring the progress of the entire SAP projects of this mega university. Findings: Strategic Action Plans (SAP) were mapped to 128 Performance Indicators (PI) and 144 Key Initiatives (KI). Planning and monitoring 1356 strategic action plan projects from all 9 lead directors (206 projects), 20 faculties (760 projects), and 13 campuses (390 projects) can be carried out more efficiently by using UePMO and Power BI tools. Research limitations/implications: Measurement of risk and focus on mitigation plan will further enhance this study. Practical implications: The results of this study can be used as a framework for higher learning institutions for project management. Abstract

Microencapsulation of essential oil provides new novelty applications in textile industries where the technology allows the addition of insect-repellent, thermoregulated, antibacterial or fragrance to all types of textile substrate. In this study, lemongrass essential oil (LEO) was microencapsulated using a complex coacervation technique. The effects of LEO formulations on particle diameter and encapsulation efficiency was investigated using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Chitosan (CH) and Gum Arabic (GA) were used as wall materials, and the LEO microcapsules formulation was developed with 17 different formulations, using Design Expert 13.0 software. Each formulation parameters and its interaction significantly affect the response (p < 0.05). The mean particle diameter size of the produced LEO microcapsules was found ranging from 6 µm to 12 µm. and the encapsulation efficiency of LEO microcapsules varied between 78.59±0.01 to 85.32±0.56 %. The suggested optimal formulation condition by the predicted model was at 30g of LEO mass, 2g of CH mass, and 1g of GA mass with desirability of 0.982. This formulation are able to achieve a particle diameter of 12 µm and an encapsulation efficiency of 85.21 ± 0.06%.

5. Mechanical Uniaxial Tensile Performance of Hybrid Glass/Carbon Woven Composites

Abstract

Carbon fibres are widely recognized for their remarkable strength-to-weight ratio, but their high cost and limited lifespan have prompted researchers to explore alternative materials. One promising solution is the use of hybrid composites, which combine carbon fibres with other fibre types, to maintain mechanical strength at optimal levels while reducing costs. A scientific study was conducted to investigate the impact of stacking configuration on hybrid glass/carbon woven composites. The study established eight stacking configurations based on the incorporation of identical and non-identical weave structures at the outermost layers. The hybrid glass/carbon woven composites were fabricated using the hand lay-up approach, with epoxy resin used as the polymer matrix. The results of the study showed that the hybrid B configuration yielded the highest tensile strength at 322.75 MPa, while the hybrid F sequence generated the lowest tensile strength at 169.00 MPa. The findings from this study indicated that the incorporation of weave structures with longer yarn floats in a non-identical arrangement at the outermost layer resulted in improved uniaxial tensile strength performance.

Abstract

The drape is a fabric's ability to deform when suspended under its weight in specified conditions of known size using a Drape Meter. The Drape Coefficient % (DC%) is calculated by taking the weight of paper cut out based on the shadow of the fabric. A fabric property is very important in relating to the behavior of drapes and these factors were determined by earlier researchers in developing a tool to measure drape. The Cusiks's Drape Meter was the first equipment that used the principle of shadow in reflecting the drape behavior and later on calculating the DC%. The principle introduced by Cusick has been used by a lot of researchers to determine DC% more accurately using computer captured images. In recent years, a lot of research has moved forward using software to calculate the DC% by incorporating the values of fabric properties to create an image for the drape. A lot of work on comparing the values of DC% using conventional and simulated/virtual methods was published. The usage of particular software can predict the DC% before the actual production of fabrics. Prediction can be made based on physical properties needed on particular fabrics to be produced and thus saving a lot of time and giving more choices in fabrics selection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Currently, 2D woven composites are extensively incorporated into a variety of technical automotive body parts and protective body armor owing to their excellent fabric strength performance. However, there is still a lack of attempts to utilize 3D woven fabrics for the same technical application. Hence, it is vital to examine the fundamental tensile strength of woven fabric composite materials when determining their suitability for end-use applications. This study aimed to investigate the novel effects of two parameters on the uniaxial tensile strength of a high-tenacity polyester three-layer 3D angle interlock (3DAI) woven fabric composite, namely, weave drafting draw-in insertion and weave density. Four different drafting patterns were considered: pointed (DRW 1), broken (DRW 2), broken mirror (DRW 3), and straight (DRW 4), for weft density at 14 and 25 pick.cm-1. Samples of the 3DAI woven fabric reinforced with epoxy composite at different drafting patterns and weft density combinations were produced and tested. Consequently, the maximum tensile stress and strain were recorded in the woven fabric composite sample with DRW 4 and 25 pick.cm-1 at 113 MPa and 11%, respectively. Abstract

The fabric developed from honeycomb weave is a multilayer fabric having variable strength and elongation. Properties of these structures depend on the cell size of the honeycomb weave. The aim of the research is to identify the effect of cell size on the tensile strength in terms of breaking force and elongation of the honeycomb weave structures. In this paper, three different cell sizes of honeycomb fabrics were created and analysed in both warp and weft direction for its tensile properties. Analysis shows significant results in the warp direction and weft direction of honeycomb fabric.

Abstract

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to investigate the perceived thermal comfort experienced by active Muslim women (AMW) wearing hijabs determined by their experience of comfort sensation while doing sports activities or regular exercises. This study also examines whether the casual hijabs which are widely used amongAMWare able to supply the appropriate comfort for active purposes. Design/methodology/approach - This study used the quantitative method using survey questionnaires to collect 100 primary data obtained from AMW respondents who are university students located around the Klang Valley region in Malaysia. Findings - Based on the overall results, this study suggests that the common hijabs that are used for casual applications do not offer sufficient comfort toMuslimwomenwhile performing sports activities or regular exercises. Research limitations/implications - The outcome of this study will help to gain a better understanding on hijab preferences and comfort experienced from the viewpoint of regular hijab users. The information will assist industries to consider the selection of the right materials when developing sportswear hijabs to provide better comfort for more AMW in the near future. The method used in this study is useful to gain information on consumer's profile and value-added details about the discomfort aspects of hijab which are scarce in the existing literature on thermal comfort. Abstract

Research on parameters influencing seam pucker has been quite intensive in the past decade. The difficulties associated with accurate predictions of the interaction between sewing parameters and fabrics properties. Traditional approach of matching variety of sewing parameters with unlimited fabric properties through personal experience has been a challenge in the apparel industry which increased the cost of production due to reprocess or rejection. Hence, in the present study, an alternative mathematical modeling known as Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was proposed to predict the seam puckering grading together with the usage of high end instrumentation for fabric known as Kawabata Evaluation System (KES-F). The KES-F determined 16 parameters related to handle properties of a fabric and SEM produced prediction equation based on a few selected important parameters. The results show that equation by SEM can be used to predict the level of seam puckering of different categories of fabric weights. Good comparisons with the experimental and previous studies demonstrate the ability of the model to be used as a predictive tool for textile materials particularly for seam puckering.

Abstract

3D angle interlock is one of many textile woven structures that have shown prominent mechanical tensile strength properties towards technical application such in transportation, structural reinforcement, and sport purposes. This paper intends to show the influence of fabric weft density parameter towards mechanical tensile strength performance of 3D angle interlock woven fabric. The woven fabric samples were fabricated with two different weft densities parameters which were 22 and 25 pick.cm-1 (ppcm). The tensile strength test on woven fabric sample was tested accordingly to the American Standard for Testing and Materials (ASTM). The results revealed that highest fabric weft density at 25 pick.cm-1 contributed to the highest weft crimp percentage at 4.7 % and weft stress performance at 67.2 MPa. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, textile composite are widely utilized as structural components in the area of aerospace, civil engineering, protective armour and automotive applications. Textiles structures become increasingly significant for composites application due to strength to weight factor. [1-4]. Various textile materials are extensively used such as fibres, yarns and fabrics. Commonly, textile composite structures are characterized according to the textile preform architecture either it is a conventional 2D laminated structure or 3D textile structural laminated composite [2]. Comparative studies between both types have suggested that 3D textile structure exhibit superior mechanical performance in tensile strength, impact resistance, flexural, delamination resistance, high fracture tolerance [1, 5, 6].
